Run a sammich thru the oven. Add your choice of fixins. Greeted with a smile. Try the peppers.

Went here on a trip have never been to one. It's like a Quiznos with a good variety of offerings. However no gluten free bread. They have salads, sandwiches, and soups. Also they are fast and friendly

OK for less than $5.00 you get a fairly loaded sandwich. So unless it sucked you got to give them at least 3 stars. At first it felt like I was at quiznos since they toasted first and it was eerily familiar. INSTEAD.......I was pleasantly suprised. In fact......If Quiznos had provided this kind of quality they might not be going out of business and shutting locations. A very solid sandwich. If I could make it 3.5 stars I would.........but ok for the price they get a 4. It's still a chain............although a smaller one..........and doesn't compare to some of the great DELI's that you can find out there. Good job Potbelly

The bread and the giardiniera (they call it "hot peppers") make this place. I usually keep it real by doubling down on the bacon, too. Mainly because I'm ballin' and shot callin', y'all. Don't be intimidated by the enormous, snaking line that spills out into the IDS common area / skyway. It moves fairly quickly due to the breakneck-speed with which the restaurant staff operates. The staff is courteous, yet curt. Be ready to tell them what you want, pay and get out of the way. They don't tolerate shenanigans and neither do the Potbelly veterans waiting behind you. It's more expensive than the competition, but a much higher quality.

Is it sad I still remember the day I fell in love with Potbelly Sandwiches? Six years going strong, and the signature flavor is just as delicious here in Minneapolis as it was in that first bite in Chicago. My usual is a Roast Beef with all the fixings including hot peppers (sans oil). The chicken salad is good too, and the BF swears by the Italian. I like that they will "thin-cut" the bread, because who needs those extra calories? If you like boring, generic, cookie-cutter sandwiches, then perhaps Jimmy Johns or Subway is where you'd rather stop for lunch. But if you like a little kick, zip or pizazz then Potbelly's where it's at. I've become so predictable that whenever I meet the BF for lunch downtown and he asks where I want to eat, my answer is almost always Potbelly. If you're looking for a sweet treat, try one of their Dream Bars--so good! I'm surprised to see some people complaining about the prices...My sandwich is always under $5, and I can't argue with that! The staff is really friendly--always asking how my day is, if I have exciting plans for the weekend, etc. It's amazing they have time for this, considering this particular location is hopping at lunchtime. They do a great job moving people through by taking your order while you're standing in line, so by the time you get to the counter, your sandwich is ready to be dressed. So, don't be turned off if you see a long line--you'll be enjoying your lunch in no time.

I came on the recommendation of a coworker who lives up here in Minneapolis. She asked what I might be interested in for lunch and when she heard me say, "sandwich", she immediately busted out with Potbelly's." Having just consumed my lunch, I have to say, "good call"! Had a Wreck which is salami, ham, turkey, roast beef and swiss cheese. Got this one with no salami and added bacon. Their sandwiches are served hot and come with the usual suspects as topping choices. Beyond the sandwich being delish, what was particularly impressive was how quickly they disposed of the long line that was there when I arrived. Had one team member walking along the line with some kind of tablet. She took the order, punched it in and by the time you make it to the front line where the sandwich making happens, they are well into asking you what you would like on your_____. Quite a good system. With the sandwich, bag of good Zapp's chips and a bottle of water, I was just over $8 so, decent prices to boot. I will definitely be back when next in Minneapolis.

Really nice place to go and grab a bite. When it's busy they have a person with a data pad that submits your oder while you wait in line. Then you just tell them what kind of toppings you would like. There is a fair amount of space in their shop, which was quite nice. I also like that you can recycle there as well. Pricing is not all that terrible either. I love eating their food. I especially love their Italian Sandwich. I'm getting hungry thinking about the sandwich now.

Got our food really fast. I had a grilled chicken and cheddar and thought it was delicious. Hot peppers did a nice job of spicing it up! Only issue was one of the servers was loud and somewhat abrasive with me and another customer after me. Couldn't quite figure out what she was so pushy and aggressive about, the place was fairly slow.

Like thousands of others that work in downtown Minneapolis...I need food fast and at a reasonable price. There are dozens upon dozens of options and everyone has there go-to joints when they're in a pinch. For me...Potbelly (of all places) is on my short list of "when in a pinch". What I like... * SUPER FAST service during lunch hour. * Variety of sammiches to meet your taste buds. * Has breakfast options when you really need it. What I don't like... * Limited seating, especially for larger groups (5+). * Can get a bit pricey (close to $15 sandwich/chips/bev). In the end, amazingly tasty sammiches, made in record time, from a staff that meets your needs. What else do you want for your downtown skyway lunch?

The ever so reliable go to lunch spot. They have a pretty decent sandwich selection (would highly recommend the Mediterranean with chicken) with some soup and malt choices. I'm kinda in a rut and have yet to venture off and try anything new but from the satisfied looks on my colleague's faces I can tell the other options are tasty as well. Great friendly and organized/efficient staff (It's like clockwork during the lunchtime rush). If you are on a time crunch but got a craving for something off the menu they have the option of online ordering, so by the time you walk over you can skip the line and walk out with your food. Got to admit I have used that service once or twice. They have a few locations within the skyways, but there will be a line come lunch time. Even during the busy rush hour of lunch (which I try to avoid if I'm just heading back to my desk to eat) it will take roughly about 7-10 minutes from the time you order your food to the moment you are cashing out. Seating during the rush hour time is limited but luckily if you have some time to spare and don't want to eat at your desk, there is a great spot right out in the 'courtyard' space of the IDS building (great for people watching).

OK, so I don't go to Potbelly often however anytime I do the ordering process always tends to confuse me. My last visit I was the only person here, I mean it was 4:30-5pm and the place was empty. The staff was cleaning, prepping food and listening to music; no problem with me I like to see employees having a good time. I didn't like feeling rushed as I tried to calculate the sandwich I wanted and how to order it so they could continue socializing. Everyone was friendly but I got the impression I was slowing them down or something, which is annoying considering there was no one in the place... Luckily the food was pretty good, but it just doesn't do it for me at $8 something dollars for a smaller sandwich. I would rather go out the door to Jimmy Johns or dare I say it, across the skyway to Subway. Nice change of pace but not my regular joint.

Nothing too special, but options are limited in the IDS

This place is a zoo during lunch. Do not enter. Target corporate workers are having lunch. This place is a zoo on weekends - kids, mothers and strollers. The service is friendly. I always get the chicken noodle soup. Very tasty. However, there is no place to sit, stand or breathe, so don't plan on eating in there, take it to the Gavidae food court.

It was the day before New Years and some co-workers and I thought it should be dead at one of our favorite sub shops....We were wrong. Again the line ran out the door but we were in and out within 5 minutes. This small sub shop is the model of efficiency. A line master takes your basic sub order and relays it to the team member that starts off the base bread and meat fixings and throws it into the toaster. This is all while 15 people are still in front of you in line. Once you get close to the front of the line you are shoveled into a "Fixings" team member. All in a flawless symphony of motion that befuddles the common customer who magically ends up where they are supposed to be. Once you get your $4.19 sandwich placed in a bag, you step left like at the Soup Nazi kitchen and pay your tender. I always get "The Wreck" which is salami and roast beef and some nice melted cheese with all the fixings except oil. It is just the right size for a lunch sandwich and it has to be one of the best subs in The Cities. The only equal I have come across is Caffrey's near the Herkhimer.

Sort of like an upscale Subway, with better surroundings. The food is served on/in plastic or paper, nothing elegant about it, but if you have 45 minutes until your next commitment, you can be confident you'll get in and out of here in time. I had an Uptown Salad, sort of like a Panera type chicken-and-lots-of-stuff salad, but not quite as good.

The only veggie option I can get here is the Mushroom sandwich. They do allow to customize your sandwich, but their sandwiches tend to be greasy and not so tasty. This specific Potbelly seems to get long lines, and the wait time are long, Their pace of delivering a sandwiches is not even closed to Subway. I have tried it twice but don't seem to like it. May be options are better for meat eaters.

I would give this place 5 stars if I only had their cookies because their chocolate chip oatmeal cookies (buy the pack of 12) are AMAZING. My conference room literally went through multiple bags of their cookies this week. They literally taste like they're homemade and are soft and chewy. I had lunch at Potbelly today, however, and I didn't really think it was that great. The line was long and I felt their vegetarian options were pretty limited. It is cheap (4 dollars for a skinny sandwich) but I think other sandwich places have better options.

Spacious-enough location but avoid during lunch rush. I've found the employees at this location to be kind of surly in an uncool way. No reason to rave about the sandwiches but they are good compared to the other chains.

I had walked by Potbelly's many times and always there is a line out the door at lunch time; therefore I always bypassed and promised to return another day. I finally made the stop into the IDS building location on a slow Saturday afternoon and was delighted I had made the stop. The atmosphere is a wooden floor and high ceilings adorned with knick-nacks and lighted signs and the whole room tied together with the appropriate pot-bellied iron stove in the corner. A very clean fountain drink area and signage you cannot miss made me happy that perhaps this place was going to be a great find. (A clean place at first glance is always a turn on). The staff had trouble seeing me through the line that makes you wrap around and then keeps you hidden behind a little order stand but once I was seen, I was promptly helped. I ordered their Roast beef with everything but tomato on a white bread with a side of their daily soup - the baked potato with cheese. I had heard their malts and shakes were killer so I ordered an Oreo malt as well with my meal. I was excited to have the staff strike up an easy honest conversation as they made my sandwich in front of me and once they learned it was my first time in, they even threw in a side of their famous dressing to dip my sandwich if needed. The whole meal, shake - sandwich and soup came to around $12.00 after taxes and I sat myself and food in a quiet little booth nook. Deep seats, clean tables and extra napkins on the table if needed. I unwrapped my sandwich and it was wrapped so tightly around that each bite wasn't too messy and had all of the ingredients in it - delicious! The dressing and olive oil makes a nice touch with their fresh bread that has a crisp to it and the whole mouthful simply melts together like a sub heaven delight. I kept thinking as I chewed down the roast beef sandwich with pickled peppers that it was much better than Subway or Jimmy Johns and that the toasted bread and high quality ingredients almost made it a local deli type feel as I ate. The soup was creamy, not chunky as I had expected, but had a very strong bacon flavor. I kept wondering how they got the bacon flavor in without big chunks of bacon or grease floating atop the soup but the taste was heavenly - I didn't even have to add salt or pepper. The shake was brought to my table as they are made on hand and was well worth the wait. Though I was nearly done with my meal by the time it arrived, I left with more than half to sip on as I walked through the skyways of Minneapolis. Chunks of oreo and a smooth malt taste were the perfect top off and the little cookies that decorate your straw were a great final touch. Overall, I adore Potbelly's now - I've had nearly every sandwich since my visit and have yet to find something I don't like. I have learned however that the staff make or break the experience. One out of five trips I seem to get the B CREW and they don't pay attention or take my order well - so that is my only big critique.

This place has the most divine breakfast sandwiches in all of downtown! They do occasionally put meat on my vegetarian order (which is silly - I get the impression not many people order the non-meat sandwich for breakfast) but are fast and friendly with a replacement. Bonus: There is an amazingly adorable boy (man?) that works there in the afternoons, too - he has a directionless cuteness that I find appealing in a maternal way. Like a puppy. That makes me old, so I'll go sulk now.

My lunch was at 11am. I went here on three different occasions and the soup was not ready. I wasn't very happy. The sandwiches are great here....usually the service is stellar. Some days the employees are happy and some they are just rushed. Go here only if its your last option. Other places in the skyways are better.

God here I am carrying on about a sandwich counter again. I'm not sure there has ever been a time in my life that I've eaten more sandwiches?Seriously, I think its because the skyways are like Sandwich Alley or something. There is rarely a place to sit here, but why would you when there are people lingering everywhere waiting for something (from ordering, to getting their sandwich, choosing their chips, choosing their beverage, to paying, to grabbing napkins) in a line that pokes out into the IDS hallway. While in line the "sandwich man" with a clipboard is going to try to impress you with whatever cryptic code of "sandwich speak" he barks out to the sandwich counter. I'm easily impressed, you? The veggie sandwich is totally craveable - it is warm, it has mushrooms smothered in melted cheese. Potbellys offers a salad option, too. So when you get sick of eating hoagies every day of your life for 2 years you can get a salad. Look out for the creep up in loft "playing his guitar"..I swear he is looking down shirts...

I know they implemented this magnificent change a few months ago, but they finally listened to their customers and added "BIG" sizes. Now their sandwiches are practially perfect. The only negative thing I could think of before was that they were a little too small for hearty appetites, but since no one wanted to be that guy and order two, plenty of people started to get a little hungry towards the end of the workday. Now I don't have to be that guy. Thank you potbelly's.

Seriously. No disrespect to my fellow Yelpers but what in doG's name is the big damn deal about this place?! When I moved here over a year ago I heard many people say how great Potbelly was. My husband and I could not wait to try it. Then one night we went in. We were convinced we had missed a hidden menu. Could this really be it? A choice of about 6 "signature" sandwiches? I actually wanted to leave right then but he convinced me to stay. I thought to myself, "These better be the best damn sandwiches we've ever eaten." I'll save you the suspense. They weren't. They were average sandwiches. Hell, Panera Bread is just as good. Maybe I've been spoiled by places like Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, MI but this place was a major let down. Husband thought so, too. Now every time we drive by we make a joke about it.

Yum, I like Potbelly's subs a lot and it makes a nice alternative to my usual Jimmy John's sub. This place is a zoo during lunch hour, which can only be a good thing for a restaurant's reputation. They have plenty of great sub sandwiches, my favorite of which is the Italian, which has an onslaught of wonderful meaty goodness awaiting invasion into your mouth. What I love about this place is the teamwork of the sandwich assemblers, which seem to make it some kind of game as they're working. Overall, Potbelly's is a convenient lunch location and makes for a tasty in-and-out sub experience.

If you're able to avoid the noon hour lunch rush, this is a great place to grab a bite. I was here a little past 1 and the service was friendly and efficient. There was an expediter taking orders quicker than they were being filled, which definitely helped them stay organized. The limited seating in the shop could be a problem. Fortunately there are plenty of benches available at the IDS Crystal Court just downstairs. The Vegetarian sandwich (mushrooms, swiss, provolone and American cheeses) was toasted to perfection - the cheeses were melty goodness, and the bread was lightly crisp on the outside, but still soft and warm on the inside. The "Wreck" (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham and swiss cheese) seems a popular choice, as I heard several orders for it in the few minutes I was there. Their multigrain wheat bread is pleasantly hearty but not overpowering. A caution to all pickle lovers: if you ask for pickles on the side, you'll get the sliced sandwich pickles instead of a long spear. And for dessert, their sugar cookies are surprisingly good! So many lunch shops sell mediocre cookies - flat, greasy, crumbly, lifeless, tasteless! Potbelly's are moist and chewy, and liberally sprinkled with sanding sugar. I was initially disappointed not to find a chocolate chip cookie (the other available variety being oatmeal raisin - and who eats those, anyway?), but the sugar cookie exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely go back just for the cookies - but probably not during the height of the lunch rush.

The name is a warning. Like ordering a zombie at the bar. The sandwich shop is telling you what it's going to do to you. And it will. The sandwiches are amazingly delightfully decadently terrifically delicious. In their honor, I shall create an adjective for them: Amadedenterrifilicous. There. That's how good they are. The line will look long. It will pass quickly. Be not afraid. I miss Potbelly! Sadly, I still have something to remember it by....

Service was fast, environment was lively, but the ultimate measuring stick is the food. Not bad, but not memorable. I got the Wreck with bacon-add on. For $8 I would expect a larger sandwich. The meat was skimpy even with the bacon, veggies seemed to be fresh as every bite had a crunch, but the bread was OVERLY toasted and it cut the roof of my mouth. I couldn't finish off my lemonade because everytime I took a sip I had to stop because of the discomfort. I may go back to give it another try but there's definitely other options to pursue!

Good for a sold sandwich. I get a regular Italian on either white or wheat and add mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickle which satisfies my quick yet filling lunch needs. Always a busy place during the lunch hour but super fast service.

The sandwiches are good toasted sandwiches. They've got a slightly different approach to the system: there are only eleven types of sandwiches, and all are the same $4.19 price (that $4.19 covers both the peanut butter & jelly and the 4-meat+ 'Italian' sandwiches). Not a real flexible menu, but you can select from two types of bread (white & wheat) and can upgrade to extra mushrooms, cheese, bacon or meat for a stock $.50 per item. Like most other sandwich shops, you can pick what type of condiments and incidentals you want: mayo, mustard, hot peppers, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, oil & ital. dressing, and your sandwich is made to order. I like the Wreck (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham & swiss). The biggest downside to my experience, is probably specific to the IDS location: it's in a popular location, in the busy downtown business district, and it becomes 'swamped' with customers between 11 & 1pm. In order to deal with the sizable line (which snakes from the turn-around across the shop and often out the door), the staff generally have someone stand and 'work' the line, taking and yell-relaying orders behind the counter. Or, in a somewhat NY-ish turn, they'll often have a 'lead' person behind the counter shout at customers to shout back their orders, well before they get through the line to the counter. In either case, woe be to the customer who has arrived and hasn't decided, or is mistakenly trying to carry on a conversation in line. As these folks don't have time for you to dawdle... You'll get a repeat performance at the 5-6 'cattle chutes' that they relay folks into for final assembly of the condiments on their sandwiches. The folks working the counter end of the 'chutes' are as motivated to shuffle you through as the order-taker was. So be prepared with your list of toppings, before you get in front of a human.:D It's a highly-managed environment... more than a bit like an assembly line. To give them credit, they will crank you through the process in roughly 5mins or less. It just rubs this slower-paced Minnesotan slightly wrong to be jostled along so quickly through the process. Also, due to the high volume of customers, the noise level in the store is pretty hefty. You'll find yourself shouting to be heard by the other folks at your table (if you can find an open one...). They often will have in an acoustic guitarist to play and sing from a somewhat bizarre crouched little stagelet/loft above the proceedings below (he sits in a space that appears to have roughly 4' of headroom). But the store ambient noise level is so high, you'll seldom be able to hear him play. Like I said, the sandwiches are good. And it's a popular lunch spot with my co-workers. So I generally end up eating here several times a month. Oh, and you can find details, including a full faxable menu, at the location's page at potbelly's main site: potbelly.com

Based only on food and service, this would be four stars, but the lunch rush is so busy, and there are so many other equally good options around, that I usually just walk on by when there's a huge line.

My husband and I grabbed a late lunch here last Friday, as we were out and about running some errands in and around the IDS tower anyway. This was my first time in to eat here (he'd been previously). We ordered veggie subs on wheat (mushroom, swiss, provolone & american cheeses). I'm glad that my husband had been in here before, because he helped to guide me on where to go to order, as it wasn't super clear at first glance. The staff are a little abrupt in that they're trying to hustle you through, but when we were there, there was hardly a line (it was somewhat steady, but no big thing). The sub was warm, and we picked our veggies and "dressings", and I enjoyed it. I'd try them again.

I stumbled on this sandwich shop one day while trying to kill some time. The place was packed, but the line moved so fast, the employees really know how to work together and make your experience enjoyable. I ordered the roast beef with everything. I was amazed when I went to pay that is was only $5! After eating here I won't step foot into another Subway. The sandwhich was amazing and I almost felt like I was ripping them off. Deffinately a must if you want a great sandwhich.

During my brief stay in Minneapolis, I stumbled upon this place while I was shopping and decided to stop in. Not only are they quick, friendly, and cheap, but those sandwiches are delicious! I just wish I would have discovered this place earlier on because I swear I would have eaten there any day. I just wish they would open one in San Francisco!

What a nice surprise to see a Potbelly in Minnesota. I thought they were just in Chicago. Turns out, they are in several mid-west states a well as Texas. Potbelly has yummy subs, cold cuts, turkey, tuna, meatball etc. The big attraction here is the tenderly crispy bread and the hot guardenera, yum. It's fast, tastes great and they have an awesome chili too. If you have not been there, give it a try, it sure was a nice surprise to run across one outside Chicago. Oh yeah, minus one star for this staff that seemed more interested in their three-way conversation that getting the food out. My sub sat there while they discussed last night's NFL game.
