I'm not sure why I took so long to check this place out but am very happy I made it! Conveniently located in main level of IDS and much better seating options then Cosi next door (and a whole lot less packed). I was surprised by the options on the menu and look forward to coming back to try their egg salad sandwich. The salads nearby on other tables looked a little sparce though. (sparce, bland, whatevs). Keep in mind- you can sample their soups, so feel free to ask! That's how I ended up with the Chicken Wild Rice Soup. It's a great blend with light on the cream. I can't consume heavy creamy soups so was happy to be able to FINALLY have chicken wild rice again! I couldn't even finish the bowl, generous serving indeed!

People's Organic is polarizing for me. First, the food is damn good. Their sandwiches are hearty. I got their Turkey Bacon sandwich. It's fancy..like nitrate free and stuff. I didn't know bacon had nitrates in it. Is that a nuclear substance? The tomato basil soup was pretty solid too. However, for a normal sandwich eater, the prices are high. $11 for a turkey sandwich isn't exactly IKEA meatballs. Still, a very decent spot to eat at, especially for your friends who don't like nitrate in their bacon.

Peoples Organic is now open in the IDS. I went the other day for coffee nothing fancy it was good coffee. Thing to note they not only offer soy milk but they also offer Almond milk. Decided to go here today for lunch. They still need to get some of the kinks out of the service and set up. People seemed confused as to whether or not it waiter service or pick up at the bar. I think it will be fine in a few weeks. The food is good. I had the ham croissant. One thing I do really like is they offer sparkling tap water at no charge! One thing I did learn, if you require any changes to what is on a sandwich, the ciabatta sandwiches are pre-made at the Galleria and sent over. If you need them to hold anything they can't. Difficult when you have allergies or food intolerance. All in all it is a nice addition to downtown once the food trucks are gone.

In the upper Midwest, even the local organic cafe fare is drenched in grease and cheese. Had the bkfst croissant--a big hunk if eggs on decent enough pastry, a giant slab of gruyere, and a couple of tiny broiled grape tomatoes. The potatoes on the side were slick with oil, and a bit too much sage for my taste. The coffee was excellent.

People's Organic Cafe in the IDS Center is my go to spot for breakfast and lunch when I am in Minneapolis for work. I literally go there whenever I am in town. It's in the same building as my hotel, which is awesome. The service is always great, even when they are super busy at lunch. Super busy = standing in line for 15 mins to get to the register. I definitely appreciate the fact that they have someone taking your order in line via iPad. By the time I got to the register today, my food was ready! There are gluten free options, which is important to me. For breakfast, I'm a fan of the morning elixir and gluten free porridge with bananas. Yum! I've tried it with the apples and brown sugar, but the bananas are better. For lunch, the salmon in parchment is delicious. I'd definitely recommend it. I wanted soup today and decided to try the Peruvian Chicken Broth with gluten free bread. It wasn't super flavorful, but it was still very good. Also, I wasn't looking for chicken soup with a kick, so it fit the bill. I really like their gluten free bread. I have yet to try something at People's Organic that I did not like. If I lived in Minneapolis, I am not sure if I would go every day, since it is a tad bit pricey. Plus, I would normally make my own breakfast or lunch at home during the work week. But once a week? Definitely. However, it's my fave spot to go to for breakfast or lunch, while traveling to Minneapolis for work. In fact, I've been there 4 times this week so far. Consistency counts in my book and I've yet to be disappointed.

Unfortunate update: I believe I got glutened twice at People's Organic. The first time I got sick I thought it was from something else I ate that day, but when I got sick the second time I concluded that there was gluten in my gluten-free lunch at People's Organic. So that's a bummer. I'll still go there for their delicious mochas, but I'm afraid to eat food there. Maybe it's safe for people with a gluten intolerance, but I would not recommend lunch there to those of us with Celiac Disease.

My one coworker raves about People's Organic - but he usually goes to the location in Edina. So naturally i had to try it, once i heard there was a location downtown. I would say the food is overhyped and the service is unfriendly, curt. The experience - disappointing, underwhelming. I've been here twice, once was a sandwich that was so unforgettable that I've since forgotten which one it was. I got the croissant breakfast sandwich today, and at first it was really hot. But when I was more in the middle, the eggs were super cold. They didn't heat it through when re-heating! This really turns me off, especially considering what I paid for it. $8? The bacon was also skimpy (one thin slice cut in half) and limp! Limp bacon sucks. I could have and should have gotten better at McDonald's

I was all set to despise this place and write a scathing review of a restaurant that is little more than an opportunity to eat twigs and granola with a bunch of dirty, self entitled, hemp wearing beatniks. However, I was blown away by the friendly service and amazing food. The people were friendly (it's possible that the friendliness I experienced was a direct result of cannabis and hash oil, but that doesn't really bother me). I had a hot ham and Gruyere on a croissant and it was phenomenal. The restaurant is a little pricey, but it's worth it. I highly recommend this place for lunch.

Since becoming pregnant, this has become my number one spot for food downtown during work lunches. I don't know what it is about their egg salad sandwich, but it's the only egg-dish I've been able to eat in months. So I eat it. Often. Their coleslaw is decent, if a little heavy on the seasoning (dill??) but I still love that sparkling water on tap. And the service is always really good!

I've been to People's Organic both for morning coffee and for lunch. Location is nice right in the IDS, and they have a good amount of seating which is great as well. Their specialty coffee drinks, specifially the hemp milk coconut one, are delightful. Price is about the same as what you'd pay for a specialty drink at Caribou or Starbucks, and it tastes like an Almond Joy in a cup (delicious). As for lunch, I've had their salads and while they are good, the prices get to be a little steep for what you get. I understand this is downtown and it's organic, but I'm just saying that I would not rush back here because of price. For a decent cobb salad and a diet coke, I paid about $14. For that same price, I could go sit down somewhere and eat -- so, if I'm looking to spend in that range, I'd choose a sit down place over People's. However, the food is pretty good and they offer some great healthy options so a good one to keep in mind if you're looking to get out of the office but want to keep it healthy.

I've been going to the People's Organic in Minnetonka since it opened. I've seen it go from a place I gave rave reviews to one that's at best mediocre lately. The cappucinos used to be consistently excellent. Now they are generally a disappointment; either weak as a latte, or bitter (as though the milk has scorched). Last time I had breakfast the eggs were way over done, the bacon greasy and limp as well as the potatoes. Too bad. I used to love the place.

This place has my absolute favorite salad outside of California, the Real Greek! Make sure to add a Bella Burger patty to really set off this salad! I have to mention that this is by far not the cheapest place in town for lunch. But, it is by far one of the best place for quality food. So if you are looking for a great semi-healthy place for lunch, People's is a great choice!!

I love the many options the Twin Cities has to offer in the way of healthy eats... and one would guess a place called People's Organic would be conscientious about their offerings... but it turns out the mayo they use in all of their mayonnaise based items is not so organic, as a matter of fact not only is it made with Genetically modified soy oil, it also has a nasty preservative called Sodium Benzoate... makes me wonder where else in the kitchen are they cheating the consumer... while charging more for their menu items. ugh!!

  • Monica R.

ouch on the reviews here! I've been a few times - a couple just for tea and also for lunch. Both times I've gotten the peruvian chicken broth - it is so delicious and tastes homemade (not totally overwhelmed by salt like most soup downtown). It's a little pricey for soup - $8 (!) for a bowl + 2 pieces of bread. But it is delicious. I kind of want to check out the breakfast here sometime - it sounds tasty and a bit more reasonably priced.

Wow! What a let down!! I work right upstairs from the restaurant and was really excited for it to open. I was totally let down. The Cobb salad was the one of the blandest scalds that I have had downtown. Much better next door at cosi or Au Bon Pain and half the price. For a $17 salad ( including a drink), I expected more from such a basic dish. At very least, I would expect to have a plate and a real fork when I eat "in" . It seems silly that an organic place would serve food for eating "in" in a throw away box ???? Bummer.

I am excited to see a new food option so close to work. I picked up a raspberry scone for breakfast today and I love it! It has a crunchy outside, but the inside is soft and moist. It isn't overly sweet either, which is what makes a good scone, in my opinion. I will have to stop back for lunch soon and give a more rounded review. First impression is great though!

  • Darcy E.

You would think that a restaurant called "People's Organic Cafe" would understand the concept of eating healthy, right? Apparently not. Today when I asked for a piece of fruit instead of potato chips they said, no, they couldn't do that. I had to pay $1.50 extra for my apple. Seriously? Next time I will eat next door at Cosi's where they happily exchange an apple for chips *and* they publish the calorie counts of their meals.

Visited here for the first time and I ordered a turkey sandwhich and I waited forever to get it and then when I finally get it they messed my order up. After waiting for now 20 minuites now for my sandwhich, it finally comes out and the sandwhich was so small and dinky and I think it took me three bites to eat the entire sandwhich. The prices are expensive here for the little amount of food you get. I was still hungry after. Just beware the portions are tiny and the prices are not cheap.

I normally don't post positive reviews because then my favorite places get all expensive and crowded BUT Peoples Organic Cafe is totally underrated and I want it to still be in business next time I come to minneapolis. Yes: it's in a mall Yes: it's more expensive than its neighbors But where the hell else are you going to be able to score an all organic buddha bowl or whatever in this neighborhood? The food is great, there are tons of staff to handle whatever you need, the coffee is decent and the mall it is in could definitely be worse. I would recommend this place to anyone who cares about organic food.

$13 for the special Buddha bowl which had steamed brown rice, baby kale, a smear of hummus, a smear of a tomato based sauce, and another hard vegetable which I'm sure was nutritious, but difficult to chew. Flavor was OK, but I was definitely still hungry after eating it. The cashier wasn't all that friendly- seemed a bit out out/impatient by having to take people's orders. So, I'm glad I found a place to get some greens in, but I don't think I'll come back.

Coffee, lunch and convenient. My office recently had their catering for a lunch meeting. This was such a nice change up after having Pot Belly five times in a month. Everything was fresh and the hot sandwiches were actually hot. Food Highlights: Turkey & Bacon Ciabatta - Real shaved turkey and flavorful think bacon, nuff said. Peoples Best Veggie Wrap - This wrap does deserve the title of "best veggie" because veggie sandwiches are typically sad and this was the complete opposite. The smell and the mixture of the chickpeas, rice, cashews and herbs was phenomenal! For a second I thought I could become a vegetarian and enjoy life. Plus People's Organic is rocking the pickle in both of these sandwiches. Strong pickle game but it worked. Also, price wise this was an very good option for quality and ingredients compared to Panera, Cosi, etc in the area. On to drinks, I haven't found my match in at People's so I'll stick with the food. My coworkers rave about the the Hemp Vanilla Latte though, they love the consistency of the hemp milk.

I ordered a Large black current iced tea and when it was served, it came in a very small cup. Unfortunatley it was so weak, that it had nearly no flavor. And $3.05 is a bit high when I can get a large size that is three times the size from Caribou or Starbucks for about the same price. When the server brought the tea, she said "Here is your Black ice tea", which is one of the flavors that they do sell, so I questioned this, as I ordered the black current flavor. The response I got back was a snappy "That's what I said! This is black current!" Well excuse me! You say one thing and it's wrong and not what I ordered but you snap at me, when I question it !?!? I won't be back.

Good stuff. One of my go-to spots for getting lunch in the IDS if people I am with start getting annoying about where they want to go get lunch. Simple, fast, good food. The service has always been great every time I've been there. They do sometimes close early but I am assuming that is because they ran out of stuff or something. The Northern California wrap is what I usually get. They give you tons of chips in your order or salad so thats good. Is it a little overprice for what it is? Maybe, but I also think that the quality in the ingredients are better. I'd rather spend $12 here than $9 at Leann Chin anyday. The last time I went, the lady that served me was great she was patient and answered all my questions without being pretentious which is rare for any place labeled "Organic" or "Vegan-Friendly" (Oh and hell-o no I am not a vegan just saying some places can get personal about what kind of Quinoa is in their kale salad...). All in all thumbs up.

They focus on organic, local and authentic food but let's not kid ourselves, that does not always mean healthy in the traditional sense. I had a three cheese ciabatta sandwich today that was delicious but very far from low calorie/fat. Just know going in that this place is about understanding and trusting your food not about counting calories. The pros: my food was yummy, sparking water on tap, food served fast and quite a bit of seating The con: It's a little pricey for the amount of food you get, not the place to go if you are starving and looking for a cheap meal

Terrible ambiance, quick service. The overpriced Buddha plate was served with pockmarked baby kale. Little care was taken with plating. I eat with my eyes and this dish was so close to getting sent back.

For the most part anything I have eaten is pretty good. I give it three stars for the price but for organic seems like pretty standard pricing, but I cringe when I buy a meal here, be ready to spend around 15 plus for breakfast or lunch if you plan to get more than just one dish or decide to add a dessert or drink. I tend to come here for breakfast. I like their quiches, they always have one for the day or week for the most part and it comes with a salad with their own vinaigrette and their version of breakfast potatoes which is roasted and very very good. I like their regular coffee but also like their sea salt caramel latte iced.

While a little small, the People's organic is a delightful place to get breakfast or lunch. My only real complaint is that the plates are metal and make a horrible screeching sound if you cut wrong.

    (4)
  • Mark J.

Food is kinda meh for the prices. Cosi next door is better.

  • Susan L.

A little pricey, for salads that are just okay. Also, I don't really understand the hype. Maybe people that work downtown are starved for organic products, but this place does not seem to actually offer what they say they do. FYI folks, not everything they offer is organic. Anyway, the staff doesn't seem to care that much as they are all a little too busy to pay attention to detail, but the day I was there, they messed up almost everyone's order. They forgot about my order and the person's behind me and instead of apologizing they asked if I truly had an order. Here is the receipt, please do better at your job. Maybe it was an off day, but the salads were no different than something I could get at any other restaurant in that area. Also, I am pretty sure I can pay less money if I went to Mission for a salad. If you want organic and tasty, try Dandelion Kitchen just right outside. They change up their menu every once in a while and the staff are awesome. Anyway, I think French Meadow and Common Roots are WAY better than this place and I understand the need for somewhat organic downtown, but if they are going to be there taking up space, they can work on their approach and "organic" menu a bit better.

Came here for lunch one day and had the chicken and goat cheese ciabatta sandwich! The sandwich itself was good and the location is right in the IDS building. Problem is that it was a bit expensive. I realize that it is organic but $12 for a sandwich and chips is still very expensive. For a good deal, my friend got the Northern California Wrap which was huge so if you are looking for something more filling, I would go with that!

    (4)
  • Chris L.

Food is fine but it is just too expensive for the ambience and service. At these prices, I need a little more of both. There are better lunch choices for the value proposition, even if you want to eat healthy.

What a great healthy and hearty lunch spot. I have only been here twice but but times I'm left feelings full and proud that I ate something good for me. This place has truly great soups, sandwiches, and salad. And a little perk I love is the complimentary carbonated water. Looking forward to making this one of my regular lunch joints.

A downtown Minneapolis lunch-time treasure! I've been looking for an alternative lunch spot during the work week that's filled yummy, local, natural/organic foods at a reasonable price. The quick service, fabulous food and friendly staff fit the bill perfect, especially during the winter months because it's skyway connected! It's like having my very own Common Roots Cafe or French Meadow Bakery in the skyway! On my last trip to Peoples I enjoyed a delicious "Farm to Table" veggie burger made with cashews, fresh vegetables, fresh herbs, organic chickpeas & organic brown rice with pickles, sprouts, organic romaine & sundried tomato aioli on an sprouted wheat bun. I opted for the fresh greens as the side, but they also offer chips or coleslaw as an alternative side! Hands down I love the sparkling, yes SPARKLING, water on tap! It's my go-to free drink. Other favorites on the lunch menu include the tilapia tacos and the northern California wrap. Lately I've started to make Peoples Organic Cafe a new coffee/tea spot to meet friends and co-workers during a break. Peoples has Tea Source teas and give you little vials to small the teas before you make a purchase! Expect prices to be higher than your normal Potbelly or Subway lunch, but that's because you are paying for quality food. It's a nice alternative for lunch when you're not in a rush, although they do offer take-out for those professionals who need to eat at their desks!

    (4)
  • Josh S.

Ahhhh yes, something actually good for you that is quick, fairly priced, and skyway accessible! Move over Potbelly or random Asian restaurants! In all honesty, Peoples is a great spot in the IDS. Ideal for a quick lunch, whether takeout or sit down. I have had a few different menu items, but I recommend the Northern California wrap; large, fresh, and makes you feels somewhat healthy (big +). As others have said, it is a tad pricier than most quick options, but you really do get what you pay for. Obviously a quick lunch spot downtown isn't going to have amazing ambiance, but their service has always been fantastic. Friendly and quick; a perfect combination! Tip: sit down during the holiday season and listen to one of the bands/musical acts that play at the IDS during this time. So if you are 1 of 10 people who work downtown and actually want to put something somewhat healthy in your body go here. Fast, friendly, and good. Don't be afraid of the line!

Stopped here for lunch today and absolutely loved my Chicken and Goat Cheese Ciabatta Sandwich. The organic side salad was pretty solid as well. I also liked the fact that they had free sparkling and chilled water on tap. I'm definitely a fan, but honestly I can't see myself coming here more than once a month. Why? The meal came out to $12 with tax, and that's outside of my normal lunch budget. Instead, this lunch spot will have to be reserved for those "TREAT YO SELF!" days...
