Lived in Seattle and these places are everywhere. Good, tasty, & relatively healthy food. This is closest place to what we used to get in Seattle. (Unfortunately) I live in Blaine, but willing to make drive for Oishi! I don't understand why there aren't more places like this (not Sushi restaurants that charge $12-15 for a small portion Teriyaki Chicken, rice & Salad)

I was thrilled when a sushi place went in a few blocks from my home, and even more happy when it turned out they were REALLY good. I have tried at least 15-20 kids of their rolls now, with my trusty sushi friend Cindy, and we have yet to be unhappy. The smokey bear, and the shrimp tempura (yeah, i know, but it is soooo good!) rolls are probably our top two favorites. We have a,ways done take out, they aren't super fast, but a reasonable speed for such good food. The prices sometimes seem a bit high, too, but I'm willing to pay for that when it is a place that hasn't disappointed me, ever. To be clear, this is a review on the take out food - i have no idea if the dine in experience differs.

Delicious, real food. And good portions as well as inexpensive. Great spot for a quick, and healthy meal.

Great little spot as an alternative to Culvers or the fast food options nearby. The chicken teriyaki came with all the right fixings (generous portion of rice, vegetables, slather of sauce). This is definitely more a teriyaki shop. Sushi on the other hand, was too expensive for the quality. There are several options for lunch (2 rolls from group A, 1 roll each from group A & B, etc.) and although the rolls are large (~ 8 slices) there was something lacking in the flavours, even if they are deep fried or contain cream cheese. The nigiri was ok too. All the sashimi temperatures were a bit too warm. The lunches do come with a big bowl of miso soup. Come here if you want to try out Japanese/Korean staples like teriyaki and katsu, but I wouldn't recommend it as your first attempt at raw fish!

Don't let the Japanese name and facade fool ya, if you're looking for Japanese food, it's not here, Chinese food on the other hand, there is plenty of! This is a great "starter" place for people who are at first delving into the scary world of eating raw fish. Just a pity that it's not actually sushi they're eating. It looks and acts like sushi, but does not taste or smell like it. I ordered the eel and sushi rolls here and it tasted as cheap as it cost. The sushi is not fresh and is too salty. It tastes like fried Chinese food. Amazing that sushi could be degraded to that level. If you've ever had real quality sushi, you'll be wasting your time ever stopping by here. As the Japanese say, "mazui".

Pros: Sushi! This is a lil hidden gem for delicious sushi at a great price made with all fresh ingredients. You can watch as the chef prepares the sushi. Cons: The rest of the menu? Blah, go elsewhere. Waiting time! If you plan to order take-out for a big crowd, call in advance or else you'll end up waiting much longer than needed

Food is good, but it feels like they take forever to make the food. I was there for lunch and it took about 30 minutes or more to get my food! -_-"

Same older lady took my order. Im standing-- waiting for 10 min while she's talking to her friend. I'm wondering why it's taking so long and why the sushi guy is working in the back today. I finally go to sit down, and then she goes to the back and tells the sushi chef there's an order and he comes out & starts. Seriously? Not only is she unfriendly, she gives horrible service. This is the second time I've had a bad experience here with this lady. The sushi is great, as always, and the prices are unbeatable!

They are neatly tucked away in a strip mall, but their menu is reasonably priced, food presentation is solid. All around a great lunch for me.

The food is OK. But everything is slow enough. I am waiting for 40 minutes for my meal. LOL

I've loved this place for years. It's clean. The service is courteous and pretty quick. The food is always prepared with care. I know it seems like a weird location for sushi, however don't be deceived by the humility of this Twin Cities gem. If you're looking for counter service at fair prices, check them out. The lunch specials are a great deal.

We have always been happy with our food here. Consistent, so we know what to expect. Sometimes the service is slow & not as friendly as one might like. It's a small place doing pretty steady business so we call ahead to place our order & that works best for us.

Good Value! There is a wide variety of sushi and teriyaki dishes. The food is consistent and good price. You order at the cashier and they bring you the food. They also have to go food as well. If you're looking for sushi or Japanese fare in the Brooklyn Park area give them a try.

Awesome sushi for the money, especially for Minnesota! Great people. Unagi rolls are a favorite as well as their chicken katsu. Fast service too.

Great little hole in the wall Japanese place. Good value and the quality was excellent. I had the Bento box with a Cali roll. Glad to find this place so close to me in Brooklyn Park.

Former Seattleites, there be teriyaki in the Twin Cities. When my jalopy needs a little loving, I take it over to Brooklyn Center. That's also when I get my teriyaki fix, across the way at Oishi Teriyaki. Teriyaki is kind of a big deal in the Pacific Northwest. It's as ubiquitous as burger and fries. Near colleges, one is likely to satisfy the drunchies - drunk munchies for you philistines - on enormous plates of teriyaki and rice as they are on greasy burritos or slices of pizza. As the business name implies, the specialties are related to TERIYAKi. As a nod to all Midwesterners who automatically associate Japanese food with sushi, there is sushi available. I haven't tried it. Both times I've been here, I've ordered the standard chicken teriyaki ($6.25). It comes with two scoops of white rice and sauteed veggies, mostly cabbage. These are wonderful companions to the teriyaki. The teriyaki chicken has deep black char marks, indicating they have grilled it for reals before smothering it with teriyaki sauce. It may be too charred for your taste, but everyone else will enjoy it. The teriyaki is strong, salty and sweet, requiring the blandness of white and cabbage as buffers. Shrimp tempura ($4.95)comes cut and fried long. The batter is thicker than traditional tempura, but is still crispy and has a good taste. Jared had yakisoba, which looked good. I'm not a fan of fried noodles though if you are, it should suit you. Food comes out quickly, the service is friendly. Food is not extravagant but a nice change from the usual fast food. If you find yourself stuck in Brooklyn Park, why don't you try some teriyaki while you wait?

It was a Tuesday evening and the place was dead. I ordered the spicy chicken and it had a funny smell. I thought it was because of the smokey, bbq taste since the chicken was grilled, however I have a upset stomach today, and I know that it is either because of the spicy chicken or the sushi (raw fish) that I had there. I probably won't go there again.

My husband picked up takeout from here on Friday night. We liked it so much, I picked it up on Saturday. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Prices are definitely reasonable. Like everyone else has said, you wouldn't guess it would be so good - since it's in a strip mall, but we'll be ordering again!

Quaint place... But there really is no service. You seat yourself, grab your own water, and go to a counter to order. This place functions like a fast food restaurant without delivering the food fast. Additionally, they didn't have any of the soups when I went to the restaurant. It was kind of disappointing to be honest. I'm giving this place a two because the food was decent.

This is only for the sushi- I haven't had anything else. I really did not care for what I got. The fish wasn't fresh. One roll I had was fairly gross, in fact (it was deep fried, so maybe it's my fault for ordering something gimmicky). It's cheap, but that doesn't mean much if the quality is low. The girl who helped us was not knowledgeable at all, but she was pleasant. In all fairness, I'll mention that though I disliked it a lot, my friends who brought me have been here several times and enjoy it thoroughly.

Nice place. Decent sitting room, clean, and efficient. I ended up getting the spicy teriyaki chicken. I wasn't expecting the chicken to be char grilled, but it tasted good. The portion was just right, and the cabbage on the side offered a good balance. Will try the sushi next time.

I was in BP for work and drove by, so I thought i'd give it a try. Ordered one shrimp tempura role and I was very surprised, it was great. Workers were very friendly, prices are about what you expect for sushi. I would go back when I am in the area.

Very nice and affordable Japanese place in Brooklyn Center. The rolls are tasty and very inexpensive. Their fish selections might not be too extensive, but the quality is quite good.

My favorite place for inexpensive sushi rolls. I love their crunchy rolls. Nice, comfortable take out place but there are couple tables that you can sit and chow down.

OK Japanese fare. Not really top-notch. Ended up with quite the stomach ache after. Restaurant smells like rotting fish. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood, but don't go out of your way.

I went here for the first time about a week ago and loved it. The place was very clean. The sushie was good. On a scale of 1-10, I will give it a 8.5. The prices were reasonable and the fried rice was amazing also. I thought it will be a small bowl like most places, but I was surprized. I will recommend an order of fried rice and a crunchy shrimp roll. Also the Godzilla role was pretty good.

Inexpensive sushi that is located so I don't have to go to Minneapolis (its right off of Brooklyn Boulevard in Brooklyn Center).

OK, so i went back this weekend and it was great. I ended up eating there with a friend that was used to only eating sushi at Chinese buffets, (yeah, not a fan of that but I'm sure you already know that) She thought the food was amazing and yep it was pretty darn good. And the prices are VERY reasonable, we both left stuffed and only spend around $40.00 bucks including drinks (and they gave us some free miso soup while we were waiting for our sushi) I have also found a new favorite that I've only seen there. It's called the golden Philly. It's the Philly roll with some other added fun and then they fry it up.... really i mean really it's like sex in your mouth with out the aftertaste. I'll probably be back there this Friday night to show my fiance the new rolls that i have discovered. seriously you've got to check this place out, also they are open for lunches on Sundays, a lot of the other places are not so i thought that was an awesome bonus!

Tried this place based on the Yelp reviews. We got the Philadelphia Roll, the Crispy Roll, and the Shrimp and Chicken Teriyaki. We loved every bit of it and the price was right. Will be coming back for a quick sushi fix.

Very surprising little gem in Brooklyn Center. Good rolls and udon.

When I try to remember the last time I had better sushi from a strip mall, I'm at a complete loss. This place is definitely a surprise. I live very close to the restaurant and there simply aren't other good sushi places nearby...at least none that I have discovered. I am a complete sushi snob and I will definitely make a point to go to Oishi and enjoy a caterpillar roll any day of the week. Double yum!

This place is one of my favorites for sushi when I happen to be near Brooklyn Park. I've never had a roll here that I didn't enjoy (the golden philly roll is to die for) and the prices are not bad. I have always had prompt, friendly service. Not really a nice place for a sit down meal, but if you want quality sushi to-go and don't want to pay too much for it, this is the place to go.

Drove by this place many times and never thought anything of it until I saw it on yelp. Got the shrimp tempura, california roll and egg rolls. All amazing and great prices. Highly recommended!

Their stir-fry dishes are good but their sushi doesn't seem fresh. My wife and I both got sick after eating some sushi rolls from Oishi.

I love this place! It's close to home, very clean, inexpensive, and the sushi chef is wonderful! I am a newbie to the whole sushi thing and this guy is so sweet and answers any questions you may have! The taste of the sushi is wonderful as well. Always fresh. I say give it a try you won't be disappointed!

If you're looking for some adequate sushi that won't rob you like most sushi bars around the twin-cities, then this is the place to be. You can either sit down or take out and their service is friendly.

We ate here last Sunday for lunch. Super yummy (and CHEAP). We ordered a lot just so we could try everything. Sushi was awesome! Bento box was great. All in all, we'd go again. Probably skip the egg roll though.

Quick, clean, efficient, reasonably priced. Not things I'd normally associate with a sushi place hidden in a strip mall. I ordered 2 kinds of Vegie rolls and some fried rice and got that and a soda for like 12 bucks. Everything was very fresh and well prepared and nicely presented as well. I'll be returning when I'm in the area...this is probably the best sushi source in this area of town.

Oishi is similar to the West Coast teriyaki places that are common in Seattle and Portland as a great place to go for a delicious meal. The teriyaki was fabulous, everything was freshly made, portions were generous and a delicious teriyaki meal with beverage can be had for less than $10. Oh, and the place was absolutely spotless - a plus. I haven't had the sushi but it's worth the drive just for the teriyaki. Can't wait to go back.
