They advertise the World's Best Pancakes and they are pretty delicious. The maple syrup only enhances the flavor. The bacon strips were big and juicy. The coffee, organic type, was very good too. Great breakfast with super friendly service.

I've walked by many a time, but never thought to stop in for lunch until a friend suggested it. Not bad and it's pretty close within walking distance for a quick bite to eat. Service was great! Our server was just the right amount of attentive. I ordered the BLT. It was good. My only issue was ALL the mayo slathered on the sandwich. There was a ton and I love mayo. This was pretty intense and it made everything slip out of my sandwich which was not fun and my hands were left smelling like a big vat of Helman's. Whatever they did to the bread was good. The salad was meh- just a bunch of lettuce nothing fun in it. My friend ordered the grilled cheese with tomato and bacon along with some tomato soup. It looked pretty good. Atmosphere is nice and it's not packed which is nice. I probably didn't need my reservation, but better safe than having to wait for awhile. Would return for lunch sometime.

Felt unsure at first due to the low rating. We stayed at The Normandy Inn and just decided to eat at the hotel one night since we were tired and lazy. Glad we gave it a try, because it turned out to be my favorite meal in Minneapolis! The turkey pot pie jumped out at me from the menu, so I went with that. My colleague had been wanting me to try walleye since I had never had it before, so he ordered the Potato-Horseradish Crusted Walleye to share. The pot pie was scrumptious - good flavor but I would have preferred for it to be creamier, it was a bit liquidy for my taste. I liked the light, flaky crust. However, my colleague's dish blew my mind and I actually enjoyed it more than I did mine. I definitely recommend this entree to everyone. Amazing flavor and texture, I instantly liked walleye. It reminds me of a flakier version of tilapia. Great service, there's also a bar area with TVs on.

After days on the North Shore here we are. We were new to downtown and not feeling like going out looking and fighting traffic, we went down to this kitchen. I was impressed from the first step in, greeted promptly and seated quickly. I asked what the waiter advised, he had several suggestions. Not sure about the menu we decided to order a variety. We started with the crab cake, then house salads, We chose the Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Veal & Spinach Meatloaf. We shared half of each between our selves. We had coffee and the blueberry pie ala mode. Everything was great! Service was perfect. Prices were very reasonable.

The Normandy is across the street from where I work on the outskirts of downtown. Though not connected through the skyway, it's a short block away from the Accenture building with skyway access. The food is mediocre at best. I was pleasantly surprised with one lunch experience (the Salad Nicoise - cooked yellowfin tuna, soft boiled egg, potatoes, french greenbeans, capers, olives and tomatoes onwith a citrus olive vinaigrette) but have been less than impressed the other times I have dined there. For a team birthday lunch celebration, we chose the Normandy Kitchen based on its proximity to work. I ordered the Cobb Salad which came with chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato, soft boiled egg, scallions, and blue cheese. The arbitrary name of "brown derby dressing" prompted me to substitute olive oil and vinegar for salad dressing. The waitress told me they didn't have olive oil and vinegar. Surprised and skeptical, I didn't contest her claim. I kept my mouth shut when she brought the decanters to the table as the food came out. The lettuce was browning, and the salad was just...disappointing. Lesson learned - if I want to eat a salad downtown, I will always go to Macy's Sky Room. Paying $15 to eat lackluster vegetables and questionably-sourced meat is just not worth it. We occasionally host meetings at the Normandy Kitchen for some of our volunteer groups. The staff always seems to have a chip on their shoulder, and acts like seating our group of 8-12 people is a nuisance (regardless of how crowded the restaurant is). The only reason I have been to this restaurant more than once is for work functions. Waiting to be impressed by Normandy Kitchen. Parking in the gated lot (entrance on 9th street) is validated up to two hours.

I tried some food outside my normal taste range. I had the veil and spinach meatloaf. It was really good. It's more shuttle than my normal food choices. Bartender and waitress were really nice and friendly.

Perfect spot for a cozy dinner 2 blocks from home! Good food and friendly, professional servers. Mike, the Innkeeper, oversees it all with the personal touch of third generation ownership. 4 of us there for dinner on Third Saturday Jazz night....bar was full but heard just fine in our restaurant booth. BTW Mpls/St Paul is loaded with jazz talent! For dinner 3 had perfect salmon and I had the meaty crab cake....do not miss the popovers!

DO NOT HOST A SPECIAL EVENT HERE. You most likely will have to work with a woman named Bonnie and she is downright horrible at her job. Totally unaccommodating. The actual bar and restaurant are not that bad but I'm just warning you: don't even consider this place if you are doing a big dinner/meeting in one of their special larger rooms...it's a rip-off and the process will drive you nuts.

I'm quite surprised at the less than favorable reviews for the Normandy Kitchen. I stayed at the hotel for two days and ate at the Kitchen for dinners and breakfasts. For dinner, I had the same waitress on both occasions named Amanda. She was extremely attentive, nice and we even discussed publishing, which I was in town for. Both nights I had a Cobb salad, which was excellent! The citrus vinaigrette dressing they used was very tasty and the salad and condiments looked very fresh. On the menu it says the Cobb salad is supposed to come with a brown derby dressing, but I think I much prefer the citrus vinaigrette. I will definitely come back to the Normandy Kitchen for dinner if I'm in town again!

We dined at the Normandy Kitchen last night, pre theater, and we couldn't have loved it more!!! (to quote Noel Coward!) I had the most amazing pork tenderloin that I've ever had! Very lightly charred on the outside, but so moist and slightly pink on the inside, as I had ordered medium. The side of potatoes au gratin was the most wonderful moist wedge of perfectly prepared spuds, cream and cheese layers that you'd ever want. add to that dish the perfectly cooked glazed carrots and, I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!! My wife had the potato-horseradish crusted walleye, which was served with these perfectly crisp disks of potato garnish on top, and the most delicious wild rice risotto! She's also a sucker for their pop over as her "starter," and they sure don't disappoint on that delicacy either! We ran out of time for dessert, but we have had experience with their pies, and nobody, since my mom, has ever made a better slice!! We'll be back often!!! The service was so cordial and professional, that they could put any other restaurant to shame! THANK YOU NORMANDY!!!

I've been here twice now for lunch, it's a convenient location and much less busy than other restaurants downtown because it's a few blocks off of Nicollet Mall and outside of the normal pedestrian traffic. The restaurant has a bar area and a different area for seating, they are very accommodating for large parties and have several rooms that they can reserve for you if you need a large table. The service is a good, the staff is attentive and friendly. I think the food is very average - it's good and edible, however, I just don't think it's the most exciting and not something I would "Write home about." They do stick to the French theme for the most part, but the food just lacks zip and excitement and freshness. I had the walleye sandwich the first time I was here, and it was quite plain. The walleye itself was a small filet and was a bit dry - the bun and toppings were forgettable. The portion was small for the price. This most recent visit, I had the bacon and egg frisee salad which was fine, however it was saturated in a vinegary dressing - it left my taste-buds feeling a bit strange for the rest of the day. I also had the cauliflower fritters - large pieces of deep-fried cauliflower - the cauliflower was still fairly crunchy, however the batter was a bit soggy towards the end - it came with an aioli dipping sauce that was garlicky and creamy. The sandwiches and soup seem like a good deal - but the lunch salads are a bit pricey for what you get. The lettuce on a friend's salad wasn't as a fresh as she would have liked. All in all, I think this place is just fine, however there are many other restaurants downtown Minneapolis that I recommend before this place. It is quiet and less trafficked, so it could be a good option for a quiet lunch meeting.

Stayed at the Best Western and as soon as I saw the menu in the room, I knew I'd be making time to eat breakfast here. Normandy Kitchen, you had me at Apple Fritter French Toast. I stopped in on a pretty busy Sunday morning, and was overwhelmed with good service from the host, to the waiter, to the manager. I often put a hefty grade on places on how quickly my water gets refilled, and on a scale of 1-10, this place was a 15. I even had waitstaff that wasn't my own filling my glass, very well done. Apple. Fritter. French. Toast. Absolutely everything I wanted it to be and more. It was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the hash browns which were perfectly done as well. I normally don't love breakfast...but I love the Normandy Kitchen breakfast.

Smell of garbage and unimpressive menu. I made a reservation at another place a little later tonight.

While staying at this hotel I ate at the Normandy Kitchen twice. The first time is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of one. The first time I ate at the bar and had the "signature" Henry the VIII burger with fries and a local IPA beer. The beer was great, the fries were average, and the burger was alright. The beef tasted good and fresh but it was nothing special. Just your basic burger with lettuce, onion, and condiments on the side. The second time, I tried a pizza. I can say without a doubt that this was one of the worst pizza's I've ever tasted. It is a very thin pizza but still managed to be soggy in the middle. I had only pepperoni as a topping. The worst thing about it is that it tasted like they took a rock salt grinder, attached it to a power drill, and went to town on the pizza. There were several times where my teeth chomped through large chunks of rock salt. That was all I could taste. Salt. I tried to isolate some cheese, and that was tasty on its own. Otherwise, the pizza was unsalvageable. I didn't finish it.

The bar is a little tight, the HH specials are what they should charge everyday. The burger plate with fries was delicious, leave the crabcakes to Oceanaire. Snappy service behind the bar...but a couple of tables looked like they needed to tackle the waiter for their check.

I went here for lunch and it was very nice, service seemed very elegant and upscale and the price was not so much. French standard menu, what I had was good. Guys bringing you fresh bread with tongs. Granted, I came for a late lunch and it was not extremely busy. Weird looking building from the outside but it is very elegant on the inside.

It didn't take long for me to walk out of here. For how small it is, it took a little too long to get noticed in that place. Once I was approached, the cocktail waitress was very short and clearly did not want to be there. Not sure if she was just having a bad day, but I did not feel welcome. I'm staying in the hotel above, and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere to enjoy my vacation.

Great everything. Food was excellent. Broad menu of American classics. Amazing popovers! Service was friendly, fast and attentive. We loved the relaxed casual atmosphere and nostalgic feeling.

I would never come here again. I would rather starve to death than cross the threshold of this establishment. On New Year's Day for brunch, they had one waiter and one busser who was not familiar with American restaurant culture on staff. For a moderately-busy restaurant. What the hell? It took us a half-hour to get an order taken, another fifteen minutes to receive coffee, and we didn't receive our entrees until we had been sitting there for an hour and a half. At that point the busser brought out the entrees, was unable to describe what some of them were (let me tell you, one dining partner's omelette didn't look like any egg dish I have ever seen) and then when they realized that they had completely forgotten to key my order in, the busser started offering me other customers' meals that he was bringing out. No, I did not order pancakes. But that plate was definitely offered to me. Disaster.

This place is lacking in service. I walked in around 11:20am and was greeted by two people. One appeared to be a manager and the other was a server. The manager asked me if I wanted breakfast or lunch. I said that I would be having lunch. He grabbed two menus and handed them to the server, who showed me to my table. Upon glancing at the menu, I realized I was given 2 breakfast menus. A man walked in shortly after I sat down and he asked if he could have breakfast and was told that they were no longer serving breakfast. Well, that's funny, since I was given the option of having breakfast and given a breakfast menu. I had iced tea and turkey pot pie. Both were pretty good. After my friend and I were finished with lunch, we moved into the bar. My friend was going to stay awhile longer, while I had to return to work. The bartender saw us, but stepped out from behind the bar as we approached and said "I'll be back in a minute" and went to stand near the host stand in the restaurant. There was no on there waiting to be seated, so I'm not sure why he had to go over there. When the bartender came back, he kept his back to us and asked if we wanted anything. The entire bar area had 5 people total, including us. We were the only 2 who were actually seated at the bar. I feel that we deserved to be looked at if the bartender was trying to get our order. My friend ordered espresso and asked for sugar. He brought her the espresso and 2 sugar cubes, but no spoon to stir with. She ended up using a straw. When the place is that empty, I'd expect the service to be better and for the staff to be more courteous and attentive. Very disappointing for a sit-down restaurant and bar, especially with the higher than average lunch prices.

The food is excellent, and I like the ambiance. There should be tighter management, however. They open at 7 AM, which is early for a Sunday, so I entered the dining area at about 7:15. There was nobody in the area, but I could hear the wait persons/cooks in the back. Finally, the desk clerk (from the hotel) came in, and she was nice enough to go to the kitchen and inform them. Overall, to repeat, the wait staff needs to focus on their customers and follow a procedure.
