This is arguably the best Chinese food I've had in Minneapolis. The lo mein is everything I could have dreamed - the noodles are the right size, the flavor is perfect, and the portions are huge. The cream cheese wontons are simple in the best way. Also, the restaurant is really well put together. When I was waiting for my food, I noticed the decor, and it's really nice. I'd definitely come and have lunch here.

Finally got around to trying the nearest - and now dearest - chinese joint in our 'hood. After a long day of working on pulling together our bathroom, we were starving and ordered a lot! We got the egg fu young combo which came with wings and fried rice. The Egg Fu Young was so amazing, I was wishing i had just gotten the full order of just that! But the wings and fried rice were perfectly done as well. Lo Mein noodles with chicken was really tasty and we also got the kung pao shrimp. We had a few delicious meals out of the food we ordered and we also were housing like champs due to some heavy labor work on the house and not eating much earlier in the day. So it could have definitely stretched into 4+ meals for two if we were eating normally! Needless to say it was awesome and we will definitely be ordering again.

Mei Inn is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall but I'll agree with the previous reviewers who mentioned that the food tastes fresh/delicious & is inexpensive. My husband & I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp & Vegetable Delight in plum sauce. Between these 2 selections we will each eat twice if not three times. The portions are really generous. Oh & the cream cheese won tons are also delicious!! Get some!!!

This shit is da bomb. For real. Best fried rice ever and the lo mein rocks. The best thing is the sesame chicken has sauce on the side. The cream cheese wontons rock. The chow mein is effing amazing. The meat is mixed in (unlike fongs, which makes it dry). The egg foo young... Effin fantastic! Fav thing on the menu, I think. Honestly, everything I tried has been da bomb. Exempt the subgum. That was different. But i also broke my subgum virginity here so I might just not like subgum.

CHEAP and good! I so wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. The food coming out of there, is not the best or most authentic Chinese food in the world, but it definitely scratches an itch. We were able to feed 7 adults with leftovers for under 8 dollars a head. Service was friendly and prompt. And they threw in free cream cheese wontons with our gigantic order! Be sure to get the fried rice. It is pretty damn delicious. I think it was my favorite thing we ordered.

Yaaasss! Best fried rice you will EVER get at a chinese restaurant and one small order will feed one for days! The general chicken, sesame chicken, fried shrimp, lo mein, egg foo young, chung ching chicken...all the bomb. The eggrolls are tasty for chinese style eggrolls, lots of meat inside and pretty big. The cream cheese wontons are meh. If you like sweet cream cheese wontons you might be disappointed. I love this place dearly and I love the owners too.

Not much upscale in the restaurant itself. However, the food was amazing with huge portions. Two of us easily split an order of sesame chicken with rice combo. Great if you want to call ahead and pick it up!

I don't usually like to review a place after only one visit, but as I won't be going back, here I go. Funky "dinerette" kind of space. It's tough finding decent Chinese in So Minneapolis, so I was hopeful. Sadly the food was really oily and lacked any flavor. Huge portions though, so that's something.

They fried rice was amazing! The food overall was very good. However, I called in a to-go order and was told 25 min. I got there at 25 min and stood for 30 min for my food.

You want divy take out like Dirty Harry lives on? This is your joint. I stumbled upon this place looking for a house and have been eating here for the 7 yrs since. Good people, great no-frills food. Containers are often crimped shut b/c they pack in sooo much awesome goodness. Try the Singapore noodles, mu-shu pork, and fried rice...they have some new canton fire pan noodles I'm stoked to give a go next time.

I have been coming here for years now, my neighborhood Chinese take out place. I know there are plenty of other Chinese options around but Mei Inn is my favorite. You just need to know what to order. The fried rice...OMG...it's the best ever!!! I"m not sure what all spices she puts in it but it's a must have with every order. Also the pan fried dumplings are a usual part of the order, they kind of resemble pot stickers but are more substantial and filling. The teriyaki chicken comes on skewers, marinated and cooked to perfection. I'm also partial to the chicken chow fun and the Sesame chicken too. The chow mein is how it should be, not overly reliant on celery. The chicken wings are good too. The now have online ordering available but I haven't tried that yet, usually call in the order and in 20 minutes it's ready. the inside of the place itself isn't going to win any decorating awards but with food this good, it doesn't matter plus most people seem to be there for take out. It's rare I see more than one or two of the booths being used. It's in a tiny little strip mall with limited parking but there's plenty of parking on the street if needed.

Cheap, delicious! Only complaint is that the shrimp lo me in was a little light on shrimp, but we still love them and get them all the time. :) Fried rice is awesome.

Great food for the price! For less than $10 you get a serving that easily serves 3 people. We've never ordered anything we didn't like, but our favorites are the Mongolian beef & orange chicken. It's nothing fancy, but it's reliably delicious & fast.

I give it 5 cause it is exactly what we want. Cheap, delicious and friendly. Huge portions. Quality is great and the lady who runs it is super nice. It is what I want in Chinese fast food.

Do not let the appearance scare you away. My family stopped here on our way to Minihaha Falls after our first selection was closed for renovations. I'm glad we did because the food was excellent. My son and I both had combo meals which were portioned perfectly for one person. The fried rice is the best I've had. My wife and daughter both ordered entrees which were huge. They could have easily shared one.

I live in the neighborhood and have driven past this place for years. I rarely eat this type of American-style, fast Chinese food. Tonight I ordered their version of orange chicken and cream cheese deep fried wontons. I've been so pleasantly surprised! I have never had better orange chicken. Big juicy pieces of chicken deep-fried in a sauce that's not too sweet and has a good amount of soy sauce in it. The bitter, thin slices of orange rind offer the perfect balance for this style for this American-style Chinese food. The cream cheese wontons are exactly what you'd expect; thin crispy wrappers filled with just the right amount of sweet cream cheese. Stepping into the restaurant is like taking a step back to 1970. It's perfect! Beautiful service by the sweetest, cutest Chinese woman you've met!

Mei Inn is the best Chinese take out in the neighborhood. I'm a big fan of the sweet & sour chicken!

The woman who runs the place is a sweetie. The food is not great Chinese but I would say average. My real problem is with the lack of cleanliness. The tables and some of the dishes are sticky. I joked to my lunch companion that I could fix the problem if I just had some dish soap and hot water. If I would have seen the restroom before I ordered I would have gone somewhere else.

I just walked a mile in sub-degree Minneapolis winter, and it was worth it. New Year's Eve, and it was packed. AWESOME.

Best (Americanized) Chinese food I've had since living a couple years in MSP hands down. Namely, the General Tao's chicken which was nice, crunchy, saucy and satisfying and the fried rice had plenty of flavor, a nice oily sheen, and generous amounts of meat and would have been a meal in itself: it came as a side with the combo. I wish this place was closer than the southern end of Powderhorn, but considering how often I'd go if it was close by a little buffer is probably a good thing. Oh, and all that food was under $6.50 after tax. This place should have way more reviews than it does.

It's hard to beat $5.85 for the General Tao's combo meal, it's actually two meals in one! Check the review on HeavyTable it's just as they say. The seating area is tiny and not so fab, just call or put your order in online and get your food to go!

How can you raise the bar even higher? By being Mei Inn. After several years, this place still has some of the best Chinese food with a great price. The little woman who takes the orders and greets us is so sweet and makes great recommendations.

I was doing business around the neighborhood and stumbled upon this little sketchy place. It was recommended by businesses close by (since it's always nice to ask for suggestions "where to eat?" from the locals). I came inside this restaurant thinking... "this place is awful!" but was greeted by a really nice, little Chinese lady (I know this since she started talking to me in Chinese and I think was a bit offended when found out I'm Chinese and don't speak the language) but the service was still great. She always came back to give us refills and asked if everything tasted great. I ordered from their lunch menu and ordered the kung pao chicken (which came with an eggroll, rice/noodles, and soda (I believe it was for $5.99; which is definitely a steal since their servings are huge... a to-go box is needed). The order came out fast and made sure that we had a good experience. Two suggestions though.. If you can hold it, don't use the bathroom. It needs to be cleaned and renovated, really. The service is great but if green and an awkward green isn't your favourite colour; I suggest you pick up your food and eat it at home. Will definitely be coming back here because of the big servings, wonderful service, and good tasting food. It looks sketchy but it's damn good food!!

They have the best fried rice ever! I branched out last time I went and also ordered the egg flower soup as well as the cream cheese wontons. The cream cheese wontons were delicious. The egg flower soup was equally good. I've been to a lot of places where the broth is slimy from the eggs. Not the case here. Seriously though, best fried rice ever!

Great local Chinese restaurant if you need a Mongolian Beef fix. The inside didn't really set us up for much when we walked in but the lady who greeted us made us feel very comfortable. She even brought a little space heater fan over to our table for us, which was very nice. We started with the hot and sour soup and it was a little different than we were both accustom to but it was alright. But from then on it just kept getting better. Everything tasted very fresh and it was all very good. They don't do much in the way of spicy I'm guessing because we both asked for ours to be spicy and they had the spice of maybe yogurt... But we just kept commenting on how fresh everything seemed so we will for sure be ordering our take-out from this place going forward. Also they have a mild gift shop... So while you are waiting for your take-out order you can sample their goods and maybe get yourself a "gold" necklace for $9.99...

The woman working at this restaurant is a doll, quintessential little asian lady; cute, friendly and very smilely. Which is why I feel a little bad ripping on this place. I had the lunch special, which was priced wonderfully, but tasted a little sub par. I ordered the chicken lo mien as well as some cream cheese wontons. The chicken in the lo mien was not so tasty and the fried rice that came with it was overly dry. Being that I like to save half of my meal for a meal later, I was totally turned off by the rice. If it's dry already, what is my microwave going to do to it 6 hours later? The cream cheese in the wontons tasted sour and icky. Not that it was rotten, no, it just wasn't my fav. And, I feel like no matter what you order, you usuallly get a gallon of that red sweet and sour sauce stuff. Seriously, you don't even have to order anything that requires dipping from most of the fast food chinese restaurants around here- they load you up with that red sauce!!! It's like they have more than what they know what to do with! Well, not this place. I ordred the wontons and, unfortunatly, they did not come with sauce. Maybe the wontons would have tasted better had I been able to mask the sourness of the cream cheese with a little bit of that sweet and sour sauce. Meh. I wanted to try this place because it's in my neighborhood, so I'm glad to have checked it off my list. Having done that, I think that was my only motivation to go there, never to return ever again. Really nice staff though. Restaurant is definitely made to be a take out only, it's a little dark and dingy inside. Oh well. Now I know.

Good Chinese food, super friendly wait staff, little in terms of ambiance. It is the place you want to call, order and pick up your food in a few minutes. When they tell you it's ready, it's ready. Unlike Bill's Garden, where I swear they start your food when you get there. I always get Szechuan Chicken, extra spicy and eggrolls. Both are great and plentiful. I don't blossom out much, so can't speak for the rest of the menu but I do notice a lot of people coming in for chicken wings. The prices are cheap, too. Well worth a try.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
