Most of the other reviewers have noted the good and bad aspects of this spot . . . the pizza isn't good, it's overpriced if you don't go during happy hour, the staff is often bitchy, but it's a great hang during happy hour. It's especially fun on the weekend late nights. The 2-4-1 beers and cheap cheesy bread are a fine combo. The crowd is definitely poor uptown artist/musician/"hipster," but if you fit that billing this is a fun hang to see some familiar faces. Again, don't go here for dinner, don't ask them to inconvenience themselves and deliver you pizza, and don't go during any time that isn't happy hour. But you'll have a good time if you follow those simple directions!

If Pizza Luce seems too exotic for your Midwestern tastes, I recommend coming down to the Leaning Tower of Pizza. Slightly above average pizza to compliment slightly above average atmosphere. It's like your favorite pizza place in your tiny college town, but a bit more grown up. Vegetarian specialty pizzas +

I am tempted to give this place three stars instead of two, but they offer almost NO vegan food whatsoever and don't seem to realize that they're losing a massive amount of potential business because of it. As such, I must dock them a star for their stubborn ignorance to the fact that they're in a progessive, thoughtful, amazingly vegan-friendly neighborhood. One vegan friend has told me that you can get a vegan pasta dish at Leaning Tower, but it requires lots of changes and substitutions, as the normal marinara sauce they use has cheese, so it has to be switched, and the bread has milk proteins, etc. etc. I'm not even sure it's worth the hassle of figuring it out, but I'll update this once I have the exact details. The only appeal of Leaning Tower of Pizza is that it's open late, serves alcohol and generally isn't crowded. Their cocktails are sort of expensive ($6-8 a piece) and not too memorable, nor are they loaded with booze (unlike Red Dragon, a couple blocks up the road). They have a standard array of draft beers which are reasonably priced. Leaning Tower is my "safety" bar when Red Dragon, The Bulldog and CC Club are too crowded. That's not saying much for Leaning Tower, but until they get some vegan food, I won't say much more.

Went there for the first time on 6/24 (Sunday) for Happy Hour drinks and food. The owner was very drunk on the patio and physically and verbally assaulted two young girls. I witnessed a shove, many horrible things said and then he threw a beer in one of the young girls faces. Unacceptable and I strongly suggest anyone who reads this stay away from the place for that. As for the food, the crust of the pizza is horrible! Absolutely horrible.

I've upped to them 4 stars because of the parking lot AND late night happy hour. I enjoy that they dont bring out both beers at the same time, you get a ticket for your next drink. I do enjoy their pizza, although it isn't great. Usually I just get an order of cheesey bread with my beer. Solid option in the area. I've had mixed service from indifferent to friendly.... This doesn't add up to 4 stars I know, but I really like the late night happy hour.

Food here is adequate. Service is anything but. The first time we ordered from here they sent the wrong food. The burger my bf ordered (even though clearly stated on the receipt as bacon cheeseburger) showed up as a blue cheese burger and had all the things he hates on it. So I had to drive back to the store to get it corrected because they told me it would be another 40 minutes to get a new burger sent. The second time our food arrived cold after twice the wait they told me on the phone and the delivery guy was rude as hell so I tipped him a dollar. He checks out the receipt and calls me back from his personal phone to chew my ass! Tonight we ordered online and gave specific instructions to ring the buzzer and when the guy shows up he calls my phone instead. So I tell him to just ring the buzzer, I'm not coming outside for the order. He argues that the instructions didn't say anything about that. So I go to the door and tell him over the intercom I'm opening the door! Then hold the button for like a full minute. Then he rings the buzzer. So we tell him again "I'm opening the door to let you in!" And when the guy finally figured out how to operate the door, he doesn't realize the orders been paid for online! Like pay attention, this isn't as hard as it looks.

Great food. Their Hot Tower pizza was amazing. Great service and the owner even came by and checked on us. Definitely worth visiting.

The free pizza they gave us at the end of the night on Halloween saved me from a terrible hangover the next day. It was also delicious. Cool hipster feeling local pizza joint with great priced drinks! A bartender and staff that put up with us and were chatty and cool. I will go back :-)

Waiting 2 hours for delivery - without any kind of notice - is absolutely ridiculous no matter how 'backed up' a restaurant kitchen may be. I don't generally give negative reviews. Don't get me wrong, the pizza here is good, but the service I have recieved both inside the restaurant and via delivery leaves a bit to be desired.

If you're a hipster who enjoys smoking and cheap drinks and is looking for a neighborhood hangout, welcome home. You should go to Leaning Tower of Pizza for one thing and one thing only: to take advantage of their Happy Hour, which includes some pretty great drink specials as well as discounted appetizers and pizza by the slice for $4. The pizza is... adequate. I keep racking my brain for the appropriate term and adequate keeps coming to mind. The crust appears to be store-bought and they don't use enough sauce. I do appreciate the fact that they are generous with their toppings, however. The pizza is over-priced, for sure. There are a handful of pizza places within a few blocks radius that are way better at similar price points. But you don't go to Leaning Tower for the pizza. You go because you want to drink on the cheap and see and be seen smoking on the street patio.

I've only got delivery from them so I can't comment on dining in. I ordered a pizza a few months ago and they arrived pretty fast. I live in a one of those new apartments in Uptown and it took a while for the delivery person to come to my door after buzzing them in. I went to the lobby to see if they were down there. I found the delivery guy down there and he was complaining about how hard it was to find the correct elevator to get to my apartment and how the place needed better signs. A member of the building staff just so happened to be near us and I told him he worked for the building and he could mention it to him to see if they'd put better signs in the lobby. The delivery person told the building staff member to quote "Suck a d*ck" after the building staff member mentioned there were signs in the lobby. The building person walked away and then he handed me my pizza. Extremely awkward but also kind of funny. The pizza was decent but the awkward interaction between myself, the delivery guy, and my apartment's building staff is enough for me to not order from them again. If they're that unprofessional in front of a customer and strangers, it makes you wonder about the food.

The pizza at Leaning Tower is good....it's not great but it's good. The choices in specialty pizzas are not too original. For example, the Potter is the same as the Italian Stallion except that it has mushrooms and green olives (we opted for the Potter). I might as well build my own. And I'm confused why celery is an ingredient on so many of the specialty pizzas. I always ask myself if I'd go back.....I wouldn't go out of my way. But if I was hungry for some pizza while in Uptown late at night, then I would go back.

I sat at the bar and waited for a sausage pizza to go . I was at an event and wanted to bring home dinner. At 3 degrees this made perfect sense. I had a soda at the bar and the bartender was super friendly and was glad I found my way here from St. Paul for the first time. The crust is the thinner type, yet cut in slices. As unusual as that is, I'm thankful for this. They are extremely generous in the amount of sausage and it's a good quality. A nice sweet red sauce is what I imagine is the great aroma as you walk in. I got a to go menu and it was no problem to use a 2 buck off coupon. I hope it's not another 25 years til I make it over there.

HIPSTER. This is a dive bar. Nothing more and nothing less. Come here for happy hour 2-4-1's, pizza, deep fried bar food and a relaxed atmosphere. The eclectic servers and patrons are friendly, social and entertaining. There is always room to chill out on the patio or inside. Keywords: Chill out. Highlights: 2-4-1s Pizza by the slice Patio Leaning Tower of Pizza = Grunge

The sausages on my pizza were practically clementine size. Sign me up for some more of that. They deliver. They have good happy hour specials. So what's the problem? There isn't one. Decent place.

How this place manages to scrape by with three and a half stars is completely baffling to me. While I am always an appreciator of happy hour food and drink specials, I don't know if I've ever encountered such a tease of a joint. It seems that every time I am stupid or forgetful enough to get excited about Leaning Tower and give it another try, I end up getting kicked in the face. The end result is always the same; me, crying brokenheartedly into a takeaway container of dashed dreams and soggy french fries. PS. The french fries aren't soggy from my tears mind you, though my tears would make them a whole hell of a lot more flavorful. On the plus side, at least this place isn't crawling with vermin. Cheers!

I don't have a ton to add from the other reviews - the pizza is decent (Heggie's crispy variety crust but better). Fantastic Happy Hour as noted. The service was friendly, don't forget to take advantage of the free parking in their private lot across the street. This is a cozy slightly-above-dive-bar place to hang out, watch sports and get your drink on. I hear it is popular late night.

I used to hang out at Leaning Tower all the time back in the day and remember it fondly. We called ahead to get a pizza to take to a Bandshell concert, perfect! Has the pizza crust always been this mediocre? It made me a little sad. We ordered up some appetizers and the kids were especially pleased with the chicken strips. Nothing fancy, but plenty good. The crowd and the staff still seem cool, and the 2 for 1 drinks are still a great happy hour.

This isnt a fancy dress- up huge venue so turn around if thats what you r looking for- BUT if u want great food, great menu variety(pizza, pasta, burgers, subs, apps, desserts and fun drinks), great service and a super laid back & fun atmosphere walk thru the doors! I love this small intimate neighborhood restaurant & bar. Casual laid back atmosphere- always a "happening" place any time of day. Best yet- they have 7DAY A WEEK HAPPY HOURS! afternoon/early eve happy hour and a late night! Cant ask for anything better than a sat/sun happy hour. Cheese bread is only like $1-2 then! Love their jalepeno poppers for an app and they have the BEST mozzarella sticks. I love their Golf Shrimp fettucinni- under 10$ i think and enough to share with someone and laybe even have another small serving leftover for lunch tomorrow! thats 3 meals people!they have awesome burgers too- great tender hamburger meat but not too soggy and a nice buttery bun. one of their servers(forgot her name- long light brown/blond hair- ate 20's maybe) is so so friendly and helpful but not fake like many places. she conversates and always checks on us regularly to make sure we r ok. Even when she isnt our server shell stop by and check on us! Love to walk here in the summer and even in the MN winter I'll make the 5 block walk! Has a small sitting area outside and good parking- own lot directly across the street.

I find it funny a place that dares to call itself after that tower made famous in Superman III, has absolutely horrible pizza. I mean, give a small child some play-do and a magnifying glass on a hot summer day, and you'll get something comparable. But that's ok--I rarely see people eating pizza there anyway. It's their happy hour drink specials, and bread sticks. They strangely have a great selection of bottled beers that go 2-for-1. For nomination in the Pizza Place where you shouldn't order pizza, 4 stars.

  • Jacky W.

If you come here for the beer selection and/or trivia on Tuesday nights, you know the rules. If you come here for dinner, I'm sorry my dear yelper but your stomach will NOT thank you. The menu selection is disappointing, though some of the pizzas are vaguely creative. While edible and even slightly tasty, none stand-out as must have's and I would not suggest this place to anyone for the food. However, if you want a drink and a chat, this is a decent option. There are free board games, a juke box, and a beer selection that is nothing to scoff at. The trivia on Tuesday nights is hit or miss, but a great place to cozy up in the winter when there is nothing else going on. I have been here a few times and am never excited to return. However, I have returned, a few times, and always leave feeling that LToP is mediocre.

Been here countless times as it's right down the block. But even if it wasn't -- it's in my top two pizza spots in the Uptown area (see my Galactic review for the other shared spot). Incredible happy hour (2 for 1's from 4-6... which is up my alley always wanting dinner at 5pm). And as sad as it may be (it's not), of the 10-15 times being here in the past year, I've yet to get anything off the menu aside from the Leaning Tower pizza. I know, I know. And I'm not that kind of orderer. But this place I am. They knocked this pizza out of the park. I really do want to come here and try other great looking things on their menu, but for right now, I'm satisfied.

This is strictly for happy hour, but man do I love happy hour and this one is great. They have HH everyday from 4-6pm and 10:30-12:30am with 241 beers, where they bring out one at a time and give you a coupon, which I always enjoy since your beer stays cold! They have a pretty standard beer list, with Summit, Surly, and most importantly, Magic Hat #9 on tap! This beer is so good on tap. They also have $2 off rails, wine, and 9oz Mega Martinis! You can get a normal vodka or gin martini for $4.95, super cheap, maybe a little watered down, but totally fun. You get to pretend to be fancy without actually breaking the bank. The food is cheap on HH as well. Really the only thing I've got is cheesy bread, but its $4 for 5 huge pieces of bread, a perfect pair to a tipsy night. Some of my friends got a large order of wings for $8 and said they were good. It seemed like a good amount, but since I didn't eat them I didn't pay attention. I've read that the pizza is ok, but I haven't tried it and think the apps are good enough while drinking. Anyways, you'll probably catch me there at least once a month, I mean I do live a half a block away!

To paraphrase my good elite friend Kedar D formerly of Mill City but now of LA, I am tempted to give this place four stars, but today I am going with five and for good reason. Ok their food is certainly not all that, but who in the neighborhood does have better food at this price? I'm sure you can get great food at Burch but I am also sure the price tag will be as dazzling as the food taste and presentation. No, Lyles does not have better food, nor are their specials that much better. Sure Lyles drink specials are a little better and a little more intense, but the Leaning Tower has reasonable prices. There is really no place that much cheaper that much closer. In case you missed it the CC has changed ownership and Champions is closed. I reference these two fine establishments because it seems to me that some folks from the burbs think that every bar in uptown owes you a bottle of Margaux for your birthday. Please stay home and go to Applebees next time. Further, with another review i find an axe grinding suspect given which restaurants you have given 5 stars. I can assure discerning patrons both from the burbs and the uptown that 5 stars for these places is simply not worthy. If you want to write a less than positive review of this place, that is fine. Kedar's review is a good example of a constructive review. While I doubt very much that the folks who run Leaning Tower have vegans in mind or miss their business (attitude?), Kedar is an elite yelper and a fine writer and more or less an honest guy. He has yelp friends. His review is just fine. If you wonder why servers get stressed and or upset at a split check request and also have no yelp friends and few reviews, my advice is to crawl back under your desk at target. Splitting checks suck. It takes time, and people tip less as a result. What, you've never thought of paying in cash and treating your friends (that you don't have apparently, at least according to yelp) so they treat you next time? Try it some time, it might be fun. They do let you have fun at target right? If you don't work there you should, I'm quite sure you'd fit right in. Anyway, the Leaning Tower is worth checking out. It mos def is NOT a dive, even though I suppose there are some grungy hipsters milling about on the patio from time to time. The food is decent if not good. The bar tender that you compared to medusa is a professional, she always has been.

My favorite pizza in Minneapolis. It's greasy, cheesy, and non-pretentious so long as you have them take off the celery. Two people on a large is a "full" meal for about 18 bucks. Tips: 1. If they don't refill your soda, walk up to the bar and have them do it. 2. If you have to wait more than 45 minutes for your check, just get up and leave. 3. If you call them using Google Voice you will be connected to one of the 7 world wonders instead. Betcha can't guess which one! Try it! 4. A small private lot is across the street. 5. They don't open until 4, but are open pretty late.

    (5)
  • Libby B.

Honestly, it's not the best pizza in the world, but sometimes you get a craving for greasy thin crust that is reasonably priced with free delivery. It's the same cost as Pizza Hut for delivery, but ten times better. Plus, they are open until 2 AM for delivery every day. When it's late and you want something greasy to munch on, this is a great option.

    (4)
  • Philip S.

Their pizza is not pimp. Crust is hard, dry and cheap. Overall bland flavors. I won't order pizza here again. My wife really liked their lasagna though, and the atmosphere seems pretty good (I ordered pickup) so there's hope.

    (2)
  • Gavin W.

The reviews were misleading. The service was neither bad nor good: instead, they simply didn't give a shit about being fake - which I like. I'm a beer brewer, and i think the beer selection was fine. I didn't eat the food because I wasn't hungry, but the smell of the kitchen nearly drew me in. 'Nuff said?

The pros of Leaning Tower: convenient location, good happy hour, open on a lot of holidays where it's hard to find a place to eat (Christmas eve, for example), nice outdoor seating in the warm months. The cons of Leaning Tower: overpriced, mediocre food I really have no strong opinions either way on this restaurant. I think that may be a bad indicator. Since I live only a few blocks away, I do go here occasionally but there has never been a time that I've said "Hey, let's go to Leaning Tower!" It's just... there. And sometimes "there" is good enough when I'm looking for a place to eat.

    (3)
  • Emily E.

Love, love, love. Don't go expecting to be wowed by the food or drinks. You won't be. This is a neighborhood staple. A good place to get a slice and a beer, and even better when it's on the patio. They did make some horrible change to their pizza crusts a few years back and it hasn't been quite the same since. Nevertheless, I still come back for more. The cheese fried cauliflower is dynamite in terms of bar food, too.

    (4)
  • Shannon G.

I went there for happy hour with a few friends. Great drink specials that run until 6pm. I also got some chicken strips with Buffalo sauce and blue cheese. Chicken strips were average but the sauces were great. I've also been there for late night slices which are great!

It was my birthday, I learned that they DO NOT DO ANYTHING for birthdays...but I learned this in the rudest way possible. Medusa the bartender looked me up and down, leaned in, shook her head and said "NOPE, we don't do ANYTHING, NOTHING."...well okay, thanks? I got the impression that if I were wearing ripped levi's and an american apparel T, I would have gotten different service. Guess my white birthday dress I saved up to buy (sorry I looked so clean cut?) wasn't 'cool' enough there. On top of feeling like I looked like someone she hates, a guy friend was picking up the 2-4-1 deal, and intended to use that to offer me the 2nd drink- bartender told him couldn't do that. Are you serious? What's the difference? What if I don't want two drinks? What if I'm trying to be responsible and just drink one? I can't do that? You're going to force me to purchase a 2-4-1. What if I didn't live down the street and attempted to drive home after ONE too many and you lose your bartending license as you, being the last one to serve me, would be at fault in the state of MN? Come on, seriously, regulate 2-4-1s? Was it worth being so rude to us all and ruining the last few minutes of my Birthday? My group of friends we were all purchasing beer. No one was there to 'abuse' her deal. I guess birthdays are too mainstream.

I really like the thin crust pizza here but the staff can be hit or miss. It can get extremely loud in this place though so if you are looking to pop the question here your answer might be "What did you say!?!?"

This is one of my favorite places for good neighborhood pizza. Italian stallion is by far my favorite! They have an average beer selection but they do have a full bar as well. The outdoor patio is nice when the weather is good. Cheese bread and onion rings are good if you're just looking for an appetizer or a starter for your meal. They have a lot of TVs for watching different sporting activities. They also have board games if you want to play one with friends while you're there. Trivia is fun but usually hard to hear because they don't have any type of PA system.

  • J M.

I've been a "regular" for nearly a decade. I go for the abuse. The happy hour is short. The food (except for the pizzas) is mediocre-to-shameful. The prices are outrageous for what you get. And, the beer list lacks... Well, let's just say its lackluster. But, the people working there just don't give a damn about you. And that's what I love. From the owner to the waitstaff, they just don't care. They're honest. if you're a nihilist --but want honest nihilism-- this is a place for you. You will be denied a proper happy hour, tasty beer, and reasonable prices... But, if you cry "uncle" loud enough, you will be rewarded with an outstanding pizza.

Leaning Tower is just down the street from me, yet it took me months to finally stop in and check it out. But just the other day, a buddy of mine was in town and we decided to swing by for their happy hour. After all, who can complain about 2 for 1s? The thing I appreciate about Leaning Tower is that they provide you drink tickets versus literally handing you two drinks at a time. This is great because then I don't feel like I have to chug my first drink, just to ensure that my second one isn't warm. So in that respect, the happy hour felt wonderfully casual. The patio is great for people watching but is rather limited in space. I can't speak for their food with the exception of their cheesy bread. But honestly, who can screw up cheese, bread, and grease? (I'll give you a hint, "nobody".) All in all, check out leaning tower for a cheap drink outside and drink in the sites on Lyndale.

I often surprise myself with how long I wait to go to certain places close to home... and this is one of them. I've lived two blocks away from here for nearly two years and it was just a couple weeks ago that I finally came in. And in those few weeks, I've been back three times. Solid pizza. Nothing fancy, nothing ground-breaking, but tasty and satisfying. All the usual toppings, nice medium-chewy crust, and tomatoey sauce (go for spicy... it's awesome). The cheese bread is not to be missed, either, and will kickstart your dinner off perfectly. I've not tried the other apps, but from creeping at other diners around me, they smell heavenly. Though I've yet to partake, they have pretty amazing specials from the sound of it, and they also do bingo on Thursday nights for gift cards and that sort of thing. They also have buy one get one half-off on Weds night, and that's also half-price wine night. And Tuesdays have trivia. So really, you're pretty much set here any day of the week. And once it's warmer, they do patio seating outside, and they also have a full bar to get your drink on. This does lead, however, to the one downer, which is that it gets loud, drunky, and rowdy later on in the evening, which can be lame when you're just trying to eat... which is to say, get there early, eat, and then get crunk, I guess. So... not only pizza, but a neighborhood bar hangout. I've been majorly missing out on this stuff, but no more.

Wanna know one of my favorite "I've had a stressful as shit week, I want to treat myself" meals? Spaghetti and meatballs, cheese bread with meat sauce, small Caesar salad and a bottle of wine at the Leaning Tower. Honest to God, it cures my bad-mood blues every time! The cheese bread alone is worth 100 words---it's garlicky and crunchy, and it's this best dipped in their meat sauce (don't settle for the regular marinara--you're cheating yourself!). Moving onto the spaghetti, the meatballs are practically softball size. I don't know what combo of meat and seasonings comprises them, but they are so good. The salad is above average--nothing special, but it cuts my guilt a bit. Oh, and the wine? It's half price from 6 p.m. on on Wednesdays. They also have a killer happy hour, but I'm usually too busy stuffing my face to indulge in any cocktails.

SOOOO, this review is NOT about pizza. Since moving from California, I've been on the hunt for a regular, nothing fancy burger and fries. These burgers are practically on every corner in CA and I haven't been able to find anything in MN that doesn't include some sort of aioli and TORTILLA CHIPS? what? i would forgo a burger just to avoid tortilla chips. so i ordered from leaning tower of pizza as a trial run. it was good! nothing too super to rave about but for a pizza place it's a pretty good burger!

  • Karina J.

Nope. Don't get Leaning tower delivery. As bad as in shop must be, the delivery is twice that. Ordered two chicken sandwiches, for twenty bucks, over 80 minutes later we received them lukewarm. The romaine (romaine, really?) lettuce was limp and slimy, and the fries were cold. At least deliver your crummy food hot.

I have been back and forth on this review for awhile now. Like others say, they have a great happy hour and cheesy bread and wings. However, in my mind at least, their pizza crust is pretty bad (i feel like they changed it awhile ago? Anyone back me up on this?) Their servers operate on their own time where 5 minutes to 6pm may or may not still be happy hour depending on how important they feel you are. They are a little pricey as well. I guess if you keep in mind that their sides and their drinks are pretty good and ignore their pizza. Hard to justify when its in the name of the place! The sauce is great and the cheese is good and I love their clever combos. I just can't get past that cardboard/fry bread they pass off as crust!

Two stars for the pizza, which I had first on the dime of a friend. I was unimpressed. I have been back since but never to pay for pizza. One extra star for the drink special: They have 2-for-1s everyday at happy hour, which is awesome. And somebody there must understand 2-for-1s because you get a ticket with your first drink, which can be redeemed at your leisure for your second. Good system. Sometimes I bum a bite of pizza from a friend or stranger (kidding, geez) and it hasn't changed my mind yet. Not worth buying. Sometimes worth bumming. FYI: They do have a parking lot, across Lyndale - a thoughtful touch considering the hazards of Uptown parking in the winter.

I've been wanting to try the Leaning Tower since I moved here recently, considering it's only a couple blocks from my home. I was finally able to make it at least for happy hour and a snack this Friday. Unfortunately I was incredibly unimpressed upon my initial visit. Our server seemed incredibly impatient, misinformed us about our happy hour options, and just a little out-of-it in general. It may have been the beers he was drinking while on the job, but who knows. I was also a bit annoyed that they wouldn't allow us to split a single 2-for-1 beer deal, considering other restaurants in the area don't care. We ordered the mac-n-cheese to accompany the unwanted second beers, and it was simply tasteless. I may get some pizza delivered sometime in the future, but I will definitely be going elsewhere for anything else.

Solid pizza - get the one with celery. Perfect happy hour - just to have one and play a game of cribbage. The patio gives you great people watching.

I wouldn't say this place is totally bad, but it really isn't all that great. They do have a decent happy hour, but the pizza is always...ok. It's never WOW. Pretty greasy, but besides that edible. If that is what you are looking for though, you will be satisfied. Like I said...It isn't bad, but not great. I come here pretty often myself, so I guess that doesn't say too much? Oh what to say...try it..you may like it! I guess it all depends on personal likings. I always feel that pizza places are hard to please everyone, since we all have our own perceptions on how pizza should taste and what not!

Awesome food. Sometimes sit down service isn't as great as it could be.. and their drinks are sometimes over priced, but it's a nice place to hang out with friends. Oh delivery is always fast too!

This is THE BEST pizza I've ever had in my life and I've been saying this as far back as I can remember. I enjoy, specifically, their Italian sausage with green peppers. Simple but tasty. The wait staff is also the same as far back as I can recall and still as amazing. Although I understand the desire to expand and grow a business I am a little disheartened to see a chain developing. I always considered this a place unto me and those in the surrounding neighborhood. I won't be a patron at the other locations for fear it ruins my original experience. One of my best memories with a long-ago friend took place at the Leaning Tower and for that I will always be grateful. Price is right, staff is quick and efficient and, like I said, BEST pizza on Earth. Enjoy.

Maybe it's just that the overall quality of pizza has increased so much, but I really found this "old school" pizza place disappointing. It doesn't compare to my favorite of this type -- Parkway Pizza. It was pretty bland and expensive for what you got. The salads were strictly 1960s supper club stuff -- lots of canned olives, etc. I'm not sure how places like this survive when chains like Pizza Hut are better.

My dining experience here was fine, but I have to give it three stars because everything about the place is pretty average. Appetizers include things like french fries, onion rings, buffalo wings, and chicken strips. I think just about everything on the appetizer menu is something that you pull out of the freezer and throw into a deep fryer. There are about five pretty standard pizzas that you can choose from in addition to being able to make your own. They have things like spaghetti and lasagna and your standard burgers as well. The beer menu is pretty standard, too. Miller Lite, Michelob, PBR, etc. I would rather eat my pizza at Ian's (Madison) or Pizza Luce where the fare is a little bit more creative. That being said, if you are just looking for a regular old pizza and a pitcher of Miller Lite to go with it then Leaning Tower is fine.

If I get pizza, it's from leaning tower probably 7/10 times. I wish I could pinpoint exactly what I love about their pizza, but I can't... The crust is exactly what a crust should be, slightly crunchy but still a little chewy, and tasty, not like eating cardboard. The cheese is stringy and gooey and the sauce is flavorful. The meat is in large chunks and is seasoned... I like it a lot. Pasta not as great... Wings average, jalapeño bites on point, get them. Also, they deliver. I'm lazy, so this is a big deal for me. Yes I only live a few blocks from here... Judge away, I've accepted it.

What a fun experience. Our waitress will remember the four of us! We used to live across the street at 2409 Lyndale. After 50 years we returned to our old neighborhood to reminisce. The pizza was great. The place looked about the same and I bought 2 souvenir glasses to remember the day.

I'd give this place a 4 or 5 if it wasn't advertising itself as a pizza joint. The pros: the staff is friendly, the prices are fair, and the drinks are good. The cons: the FOOD. The apps are meh, and the entrees are okay, but the pizza is garbage. Looks and tastes like a frozen pizza bought at Walmart. In short, go here for the drinks, atmosphere, and happy hour. Beware of the food. If you find you must eat, avoid the pizza. DO NOT ORDER THE PIZZA.

Our first night in Minneapolis, and we wore ourselves out...so had Leaning Tower deliver to our hotel. Holy cow! This pizza is awesome! Being lovers of hot & spicy food, we got the monthly special (Tiger Trap), and it delivers the perfect amount of burn. Dynabites are an excellent fried and cheesy treat. The telephone person was funny and friendly, as was the driver. Our food was delivered within the estimated time, and we are absolutely delighted with this pizza place.

LTOP can be very hit or miss. I must admit their pizza is generally solid, and deviating from that is a high risk venture. They changed their HH couple years ago and I preferred the old 2-4-1 system. Also have ordered spirits on the rocks before and have been disappointed as they are short pours.Stick to beer. Feels more like a restaurant than a bar, which it is, but sometimes it's nice to have a place Uptown that isn't a zoo 24/7. Tip-their House special is good but tends to be greasy, so I keep meat toppings to 1.That being said, their taco pizza is unique.

Stopped there around 11pm one night for a friend to have a beer or two. The place was empty, except for about 5 people at the bar, which was fine, except some of these people must have been friends with the bartender who ignored us for 10 minutes before we decided to leave. Felt insulted

We went out for dinner on a Monday night. Our bill was $30 total. I forget the name of the pizza that we ordered, but it was pretty good. The pizza itself is not excellent, but the service was very friendly and fast. The server knew the menu items and had recommendations based on what we wanted to try out. The pizza by the slice special at night is also an extremely good deal. Not highly recommended, but definitely check it out if you like pizza and beer.

This review is for pizza delivery only - not dine-in, not drinks. This is good pizza when Leaning Tower is on. However, they seem to be on only about half the time, and when they're not, the pizza is not that much better than you'd get from name your favorite chain delivery non-food pizza. At their best, Leaning Tower serves up hot, salty pizzas with good, buttery, crisp crust. But about half the time, the pies arrive warm at best, sometimes even cool, with a soggy crust and plasticky cheese. This doesn't seem to correlate with how long the delivery takes, in case you were wondering - it just seems like sometimes they don't have the ovens nearly hot enough, so the crusts end up soft, the cheese is left solid, and the toppings aren't crisped up nicely. If their prices were as low as the chains, I'd be very satisfied. But they're not. It's not that much cheaper than Luce or Galactic, and the consistency leaves a lot to be desired. Fortunately, they send out BOGO coupons all the time, so when we're in the mood for hit-or-miss pizza for cheap, we call them up. Were it not for these coupons, this would be a two-star review.

Waiting 2 hours for delivery - without any kind of notice - is absolutely ridiculous no matter how 'backed up' a restaurant kitchen may be. I don't generally give negative reviews.

The reviews were misleading. The service was neither bad nor good: instead, they simply didn't give a shit about being fake - which I like.

I went there for happy hour with a few friends. Great drink specials that run until 6pm. I also got some chicken strips with Buffalo sauce and blue cheese. Chicken strips were average but the sauces were great. I've also been there for late night slices which are great!

It might be because I didn't have the pizza, but I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was terrible. The fries that came with it were totally flavorless and soggy (the sandwich was the same way). Of course, my roommate decided to tell me *after* ordering food that she has never had anything good from here, but I digress. Main point: there are awesome restaurants in Uptown - don't waste time or money here unless it's midnight and you have no where else to go...

Went for late night happy hour a few weeks ago, and got a pizza for takeout tonight (large potter, no olives). Enjoyed both experiences - they aren't trying too hard, but the beer is cheap, the pizza is fresh with good heat to the italian sausage, and the celery is a nice touch. For the money, and the proximity, I have no complaints.

Their pizza is not pimp. Crust is hard, dry and cheap. Overall bland flavors. I won't order pizza here again. My wife really liked their lasagna though, and the atmosphere seems pretty good (I ordered pickup) so there's hope.

Since I live only a few blocks away, I do go here occasionally but there has never been a time that I've said "Hey, let's go to Leaning Tower!" It's just... there. And sometimes "there" is good enough when I'm looking for a place to eat.

this is my favorite pizza place ,,, their pizza is everything a pizza should be i love the carnivore pizza with 4 meats on it and the classic rock music is great to listen too

Lazy pizza. The double crust is that; a thin crust on top of a thin crust. Nothing outstanding, just mediocrity in a city that is OK with mediocre pizza .

We usually order the Cuban pizza, it's consistently delicious and the servers are always friendly and accommodating! The food isn't gourmet and I don't think anyone is pretending it is, but nevertheless it's quite good pizza!

What a fun experience. Our waitress will remember the four of us! We used to live across the street at 2409 Lyndale. After 50 years we returned to our old neighborhood to reminisce. The pizza was great. The place looked about the same and I bought 2 souvenir glasses to remember the day.

I love this place. The pizza is great, but my favorite is the cheese bread. No complaints on the service either. Wenzel is my favorite! They have a selection of board games for people to play too!

The free pizza they gave us at the end of the night on Halloween saved me from a terrible hangover the next day. It was also delicious. Cool hipster feeling local pizza joint with great priced drinks! A bartender and staff that put up with us and were chatty and cool. I will go back :-)

  • Joanna C.

  • Christina R.

  • Michael F.

  • Sarah J.

  • Emily S.

    (3)
  • Ames S.

Awesome food. Sometimes sit down service isn't as great as it could be.. and their drinks are sometimes over priced, but it's a nice place to hang out with friends. Oh delivery is always fast too!

  • Patrick D.

    (3)
  • Karina J.

    (1)
  • Aaron F.

  • Josh P.

The Potter pizza is amazing! Love having a pitcher of beer with my pizza too.

  • Brad N.

Enjoy.

  • Paul S.

  • Adam S.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
