My wife and I had a $30 voucher and we headed down Lake Street. Man, there are a lot of Mexican restaurants around here. We parked and walked in and there were two dudes at the bar and another couple in the corner. I ordered a Michelada, which is half a lime, hot sauce, Worcester sauce, hot salt along the rim, and a beer over ice, with pepper as a garnish, I got it with a Corona. It came out in a huge mug and was splendid. I added some table picante sauce to heat it up. It was so good, I had two. I ordered the octopus tostada and a spicy shrimp dish combo. The octopus tostada was wonderful, tons of cut of octopus on a crispy shell. It was a cold dish, like a ceviche, but it worked. The spicy shrimp was good, but I would have liked the shrimps shelled. It got really messy peeling the shrimp, not a big problem, just sayin'. The corn tortillas that came out added a level of authenticity with the crispy, but flavorful rice was awesome. The french fries that came with it were also fantastic. I am not a big french fry guy, but these were good! I know they were frozen, but somehow these Mexican places put a spin on them that make the crispy, yet just amount of potato mush inside. Dipped in the shrimp spicy sauce gave them a kicked up flavor. Great waitress and a fun atmosphere that reminded me of Cozumel.

After spending the afternoon on the toilet with diarrhea, I somehow ended up here sitting in front of an extra large seafood cocktail and an extra large Corona. But it was $14 for a 32 oz Corona, and if you don't get a volume discount on something, what's the point (besides looking like a glutton). The seafood was just fine, which made the second visit so surprising. Truth be told, half of the disappointment was due to the kids crawling under the table, however, while the quesadillas came out fine, my wife's fried shrimp was not fried at all but sauteed in garlic in the shell, and my tilapia with mole sauce and other shit had no mole, and completing lacking in shit. I'm not sure, but I think that instead of her getting our orders wrong, they actually didn't have the food we ordered off the menu, and instead of the waitress telling us that, she just kind of approximated our order to something they had. The shrimp was actually pretty good, but my wife doesn't eat anything that still has its feet. And even though they have a full bar, they also had no orange juice on hand for making fuzzy navels. When my tilapia arrived and I gazed upon its paucity, I was actually in shock, I don't shock easily, but my wife said that for a full minute I would look down at the plate in disgust, look up at her, and repeat this over and over. It was three tiny pieces from the tiniest tilapia ever raised, I'd guess about 3 ounces worth. I was not trying to be dramatic, or passively displaying my emotion to the server, but the waitress must have seen the look on my face, because she quickly returned, mumbled something the fish, and took the plate away. She returned a few minutes later with about 2 more ounces of another equally runty fish. But by this time the kids were expired and I told her I needed it to go. She asked for our restaurant .com certificate, but after running around looking for it, I distinctly remembered that the owner had taken it when we arrived (he didn't want to honor it, but did). She did a pretty bad job, but I felt bad for her because she was trying the best she knew how, and I could tell she knew that our experience was way below par. p.s. you can't escape from all the TV's here.

La Que Buena is a great place to kick back and have an honest-to-goodness Mexican meal. The food is pretty good; they seem to have a penchant for serving things--beans, guacamole, etc--in fried tortilla cups. I had the chicken in mole sauce, which was pretty delish; even better was the fresh salsa verde with chunks of avocado, brought to our table in a molcajete with a pile of fresh, hot tortilla chips. There's lots of seafood on the menu; next time I have to try the shrimp ceviche. The decor is pretty out there, as some have said. I realized halfway through my meal that I was looking at a wall of local pin-up girls; across the room there's a bison head hanging on the wall. The server's attitude left a lot to be desired, but maybe she was just having a bad day. We did get attention from quite a few different servers when she wasn't around, so that was nice.

If you are ever looking for a wacky Valentine's Day, come to La Que Buena. They were totally decked out with balloons, fringe, and pink and red tablecloths. The servers were pretty decked out in red dresses as well. Throw in a horse head clock, guns, bear and buffalo heads, and being able to buy cowboy boots at the same time as ordering a beer and you've got a memorable experience. As this was my last stop on my Taco Crawl, I was more hankering for some drinks than another taco. My Corona didn't disappoint. My chicken taco was OK, but not as good as the other spots we frequented. Could it be because I'd finally reached my taco limit? According to Alison C, I've got to try the burrito...maybe next V-day...or perhaps a burrito crawl anyone?

I like the friendly service and the homemade chips here. The cheese sauce is pretty great if you order the nachos, which is what I did. The ingredients were fresh and the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. Not dive-y enough to be a dive and not fancy enough to be considered casual dining.

So, I have now been back. I am not bumping my review though. I love the giant bucket of salsa and chips. I love the guacamole, even though it doens't have any kick and the crispy bowl it comes in is greasy and should not be eaten. Still love the shrimp tostada. The fish tacos were bland though and my "sangria" was a bottle of the Bacardi nonsense. Still in the bottle. I felt like I was drinking a wine cooler, which was decidely less cool than the yummy glass of sangria I thought I would be getting. Another upside is that the bathrooms are less gross now.

This restaurant has the BEST BURRITO I have found in Minnesota but it did not come cheap. The meals run about $10 for burritos and $15-$20 for more complicated things like Camarones a la Diabla. I am a serious burrito hunter so that's what I always order. The veggie comes with corn, white northern beans, lettuce, tomatoes, rice, onions, cilantro, etc. just like any other veggie burrito but they must put a little crack cocaina in the recipe for the beans because they seriously get me high in my tummy. If I could fill up a jacuzzi with these beans and swim in them all day long I would. If I could pour these beans down my pants and walk around in them all day long I would. If I could snort these beans through a rolled-up $20 bill, I would! I think you are getting the picture. The burrito comes with shoestring french fries. Minnesota Latinos must be taking cues from Del Taco but if anybody says french fries and burritos dont go well together they're obviously brain damaged. It's a union as glorious as Britney & K-Fed: dysfunctional yet full of excitement. Aside from food, you might want to come here for the scenery alone. If you like the Latinos, you will never see so many fine looking Nortenos packed into one place in your life, not even in Ciudad Juarez. This restaurant has a monopoly on hot Mexican cowboys in tight jeans and ostrich boots. Even if you dont lust after their vaqueros, you still might enjoy having a meal amongst them. Practice your Spanish at least! The servers speak broken English but if you are willing to try your best, so are they. This is the type of authentic Mexican restaurant that Minnesotans always say they WANT to find but in the end they run in fear to Chipotle. Do you have the cojones to eat here? P.S. They have all kinds of Mexican beer and they sell a bucket (yep) of Coronas for pretty cheap. Helps to cool off your mouth after slathering your food with green Yucateco hot sauce.

This place is pretty good, I dig it. Each time I have been there, there was a karaoke thing going on. It's pretty hard to hear what your dining partner is saying, and it can be even more difficult to talk to your server. The last time I was there, me and my friend were intending on splitting some regular nachos, but ended up receiving a plate of 'super nachos' each. The big difference between the two nachos, regular and super, is that the super nachos are twice as expensive ($10). Luckily, the super nachos are incredible and really tasty. I think that due to the loud volume of the karaoke singing, our server was unable to understand what we had ordered, so I wasn't too miffed. It was hella loud in there. While we were waiting for our nachos to arrive, we dined on some of the free chips and salsa that they bring out to you. I must say, their salsa is the best salsa I have ever had at a mexican restaurant. So good!! There is a lot of spice to it, but there is a bunch of cilantro in it too to add a refreshing after taste to it, thus not scorching your mouth as bad. The chips were great and served warm, which is a perk in my book. We ordered some margaritas, without really knowing how much they were. Apparently they are about $8 a piece. Yikes! Imagine our surprise when we received a $50 tab. That is a mistake I will not make again. Seriously? Their margaritas aren't that big, definitely not worth $8. I liked our server a lot, she was really nice and had an adorable little smile. She kind of left us hanging on the water refill at times though. My american mouth can hardly handle the hotness of the mexican dishes, so I always need a nice tall glass of cold water close by when I'm eating. Overall, awesome place. Big energy on karaoke nights. Just don't expect to be able to talk as freely with your company when the music is playing. It's damn loud! Oh, and there are totally pictures of scantily clad beautiful senoritas on the walls. Boners, beers, and burritos; now that's my kind of place. The only reason why I give them 3 stars is because, as of right now, I dont' have enough money to fill my gas tank up because I spent all my money on those damn overpriced margaritas. *grrrrrrr*

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
