I have passed by this new place downtown about 100 times and I finally got a chance to try it. I have had their stuff at the Galleria location and it was top notch. I went with a buddy and I ordered the Wednesday tamale plate special for $5.75, which comes with two tamales (Pork and chicken for me) a side of rice and a choice of beans, pinto or black beans. We brought our food to a place to sit own and I tried the beans first. Amazing black beans, and then I mixed in the hot sauce. Perfect amount of heat and I added some of the rice. A magnificent concoction. Then I tried the chicken tamale, not bad at all, not a ton of flavor, but a lot of chicken in the corn based steam treat. Then I tried the pork one. Fantastic, super flavorful pork mixed with the maize mixture. It was perfect! It hit the mark on all accounts! Great conversation with a great combo meal = 5 stars!

The taste of their fresh tamales makes me feel like I am high atop Chichen Itza. I can feel the Mexican air. I can see every day ahead so very clearly. For less than ten bucks, enjoy a generous enchilada platter and a side of tamale. Or just get the tamale platter! Or just get a taco salad! Anything and everything. There are plenty Mexican favorites and even during the rush hour of 12-1 service is quick and efficient. Sit outside this express eatery and enjoy the beauty of the Medical Arts Building. This is a new regular spot for me. Great for folks with a rigid lunch schedule.

Great little hole-in-the-wall taco spot. I know they're known for their tomales, but I gravitate toward their tacos every time I go. The al pastor is magnificente - juicy, flavorful, and they load it on! Their ingredientes are delicioso and the rice and beans are perfecto! They're tucked under the escalator in the Medical Arts Building, and due to limited seating, it's a great to-go option. They also have Mexican sodas, which, of course, go very well with their food! Good food + daily lunch specials + skyway access = ¡BUENO!

Amazing every time! One of my favorites are the corn tamales which are lightly sweet and oh so good. They have lunch specials in the mpls skyway and are totally worth a visit.

I have had their tamales at their original location in Midtown Global Market (The old Sears building) and was really happy to see them in downtown Mpls in the Medical Arts Building now. They make really good tamales, particularly if you like Oaxacan style--they use banana leaves instead of corn husks and they are more mild. The rice and the beans (at least they do have black beans, which are more authentic Oaxacan) was nothing great. Also this location is really a takeout restaurant so there are just a few tables and the food comes in styrofoam boxes. There is another location a few blocks away in a food court. Ice tea would be nice, but again it is takeout and they do have Mexican Coca Cola and other Mexican soda. I will go back whenever I am in this part of downtown Mpls. A very good Minnesota tamale. Can you get better in LA or Tucson AZ? Or maybe even at a street fiesta in St. P? Sure, but for a quick downtown lunch these can not be beat. Also note that this place is NOT on the Mall. It is inside the walkway from Medical Arts 9th street entrance heading towards 8th or take the entrance between Med Arts and Walgreens on the Mall and walk to the back hallway.

YES! This location opened in the last few months right next to my office building. It's a one stop shop for deliciousness! In all seriousness, it's a great grab and go location for lunch and to buy frozen tamales to take home for supper. You can buy them individually, or in a combo meal with black or refried pinto beans and rice. You can get a sweet corn or veg tamales for less than $3! I love their spicy salsa verde, and the employees are cheerful. The sweet corn tamales are just HEAVEN. This is like that corn pudding stuff you used to get at Chi-Chis, except 700 times more delicious and filling. (sorry for the Chi Chis reference, but I was raised in Superior, Wisconsin so you've got to understand that as my terrible cultural reference to point of origin for this dish) If I had one suggestion, it would be to offer a veggie tamale combo that is slightly less $ than the combos they have listed, because due to the lower overall price of the veggie or sweet corn tamales, the combo doesn't work out to be that great of a deal...but still. Who cares? I'm too busy dreaming of stuffing one into my face right now to really be upset.

This is the closest to authentic Mexican restaurant in MPLS. Love the Oaxaca tamal. The chicken in it is spicy, flavorful and the aroma from the banana leaf makes it even better! Great hole in the wall find for sure!

Was in last week for the first time and ordered a chicken tamale and the vegetarian option. Both tamales were good the chicken was a little bland but I loved the vegetarian. Also, appreciated the size of the tamales for the price it is a good value. La Loma is a nice addition to the available cuisine downtown for lunch.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
