Why so many negative reviews? A lunch buffet with a drink for six bucks? How can anyone complain about that? This is no gourmet, wildly authentic Chinese restaurant. It's cheap comfort food. And it does that extemely well! I'd take this over large-chain Chinese any day. If you're expecting phenomenal customer service, a beautiful environment, and a huge selection of options, you're going to have to open your wallet up further. I love getting a huge meal for six bucks without leaving my neighborhood. I'd easily have to spend double that at a neighboring fast food chain for an equivalent amount of food, though much more greasy and nasty. What's not to like, then, about Joy Luck?

When I comes to eating out and staying in Joy Luck Restaurant delivers!! I have never been to the Joy Luck Restaurant, but what does that matter when they have a full take out menu. I have ordered a few dozen items from their menu and they have always been consistently good and on time. My favorite part about getting Joy Luck is the portion for price... It makes me feel better about take out when I get a few meals out of it. I have found two items that are real stars the Sha Cha Beef and the Mott Duck. Joy Luck Restaurant is great for very rainy, very cold, very hot, or very lazy days.

Had a hankering for Chinese. We saw that Joy Luck was nearby and decided to give them a try! Chinese delivery on a Saturday night? That's my way to party. 45 minutes after placing the order, we called to see where it was in the process. "It's on it's way, okay? *click*." Wow. Well, okay. Half an hour after that, we called again to cancel. Hung up on us again.

I like cheap, Americanized Chinese food. Will this food transport you to the summit of Yuecheng Mountain? Fuck no. Is it a place that delivers to the hood sans delivery fee and has pepper steak and deep fried deliciousness? Fuck yes. So I am a fan. I enjoy the shrimp lo mein, pepper steak, and lemon chicken. The neckbeard enjoys the orange chicken, pork fried rice, and pepper steak (we have a mutual love of cow flesh, onions, and green peppers). The cream cheese wontons and fried dumplings are fattening and satisfy the atypical Amasian (American bastardized Asian food - Amasian. Feel free to steal it.) craving. The chicken egg rolls are whatever, not my thing. Oh well. The delivery drivers are pleasant, they call when they arrive instead of ringing my obnoxious doorbell - I like that shit. The prices are cheap and I also like that shit. Not all food needs to be fancy or interesting, some food is just bad for you, good, and serves a purpose. I like to eat lo mein with massive amounts of hot sauce in my pajamas, watching That 70s Show and Joy Luck helps me accomplish these inspirational life goals.

Overall experience was not good. We've tried it three times and had the same experience each time so we will not be back. The General Tso chicken is so heavily breaded that it is soggy and the fried dumplings are too thick they are doughy.

$5.95 not bad for lunch buffet. However, you can get a better food from Subway next door for $5. Most of the food tasted old. The chicken was not edible. Must have the food was American Chinese not real Chinese food. Surprisingly, it is very very busy because of the cheap price for the buffet.

Joy Luck is pretty great. Open later than most Chinese restaurants for take out which I appreciate. I got the Beef & Broccoli combo which comes with chicken fried rice and egg roll and my friend got the sweet and sour chicken. The beef was a little chewy but overall good taste. The sweet & sour chicken was yummy, but a little dry. Good prices.

The delivery was pretty much right on time, that's always appreciated. I just wasn't impressed with the food. It might just be me, but everything, even the pork fried rice seemed to have a fishy taste. I usually finish my Asian food leftovers really quickly..this is still in my fridge, barely touched, a week later. I hate wasting food, but it's going in the trash, and I won't be ordering from there again. It may have been an off night, but I'm not willing to take that risk and potentially throw out that money again.

I live about 3 blocks away from Joy Luck, and due to my fear of bad Chinese food I have stayed away for the last 3 years. However, tonight, the hankering for any Chinese food couldn't be denied. We had a friend from out of town here who really wanted Chinese, so we decided to give it a try. We looked at the extensive menu online, and called our order in. We were quite varied in our choices- pork fried rice, Kung Pao shrimp, General Tso chicken, cream cheese wontons, and beef and peppers. Our total for 3 people was a bit more than expected, but we were told 45 mins for delivery so we took that option. The 4 out of 5 stars came from the fact that we waited almost 90 minutes- when only 3 blocks away. Granted, now we know to just order pickup, because the food was excellent! Meat and veggies seemed very fresh, even though it was later than expected for delivery. I definitely would like to hit up the buffet for a larger range of choices, but we will definitely be choosing Joy Luck again!

This is the second time I have ordered from Joy Luck and I can say that I am not to happy. I tried it a second time to give another chance and yeah I do not really care for it much. I ordered lemon chicken..sweet and sour chicken..dumplings and shrimp spring rolls. ALL the chicken in our meals was fried to long and was very hard. My kids was unable to actually eat it, so they just ate the fried rice. My spring rolls had a very odd taste to them. They only thing that tasted good was the dumplings. I ordered them both times and both times they tasted very good. In short our dinner was not very good. But if you're hungry you would eat it since it was there. I was wishing that the second time it would have been better, since there aren't to many Chinese food place in the area. *sigh*

Grabbed some takeout from here for a quick dinner. The menu offers a nice variety of your standard Asian delights but they fell short of being great. My order consisted of the following: chicken & Broccoli chicken fried rice cream cheese puffs chicken teriyaki skewers pork egg rolls Nothing we ordered was very warm or exceptional tasting. The cream cheese puffs were not greasy but they were cold, the chicken & broccoli was inedible in my opinion. Number one rule in making stir fry is not to overcook the veggies. My broccoli was like mush and the chicken was tough. The pork egg roll had so much wrapping on it seemed like there was nothing wrapped inside. The chicken teriyaki skewers were delicious however and the fried rice was okay. I'd go the extra mile or two to try a different spot in the future. I was starving. It did the job. Nothing special unfortunately but very convenient if you need to grab something right of hwy 94. I did notice they have a buffet in the afternoon. Maybe that's worth a shot?

I went for the lunch buffet. Food was barely warm and not that great. Haven't ordered off the menu but avoid the buffet.

I was craving Chinese food yesterday so I stopped by Joy Luck on my way home from work for take out. I've had it delivered to my home plenty of times, but have never been to the restaurant. The food is ok, adequate but nothing to rave about. There wasn't a single customer in the place, but several employees. An elderly woman sat in a booth cleaning a big bowl of fresh beans. I walked up to the counter and the phone rang. A little girl, maybe 8 years old, answered it. As I stood waiting to place my order, an adult man and teenage girl worked in the kitchen a few feet from me, staring at me as they worked. Neither moved a muscle to take my order. The little girl hung up the phone, walked away, and the teenage girl walked over, spoke in Chinese to her. She seemed to be telling her to take my order. They had a verbal disagreement in Chinese, then both walked away from me. I finally gave up, picked up my keys and headed toward the door. When the teenager saw that I was leaving she yelled something at the little girl indicating that she should take my order. I said loudly, "Since no one wants to take my order, I'm leaving. Apparently you don't need my business". The teenager said "No, wait!" and I said "No, I DID wait, and now it's too late. I'm leaving. I turned and got halfway thru the restaurant, turned and said "And YOU (to the teenager), YOU are the oldest! You are setting a very bad example for your little sister, arguing about who has to take my order". So... I will not be spending my money there again. There are other Chinese restaurants, and I am betting they would love the business.

This was the first time I tried Joy Luck, for something other than my usual Chinese delivery place. I went for it based on previous reviews on Yelp. I'm probably never eating here again. I called in to have some food delivered, and ordered the cream cheese wontons, the General Tso's Chicken and some Chicken Fried Rice. The delivery was pretty speedy, and that was appreciated but keep in mind that there's a $15 minimum (which is normal). The food however, ugh. I could not get though my General Tso's and ended up throwing it away... there were pieces of what looked like raw reddish colored meat, which was chewy and just hard to ingest. The chicken did not even look like chicken and had a red/grayish color to it, and just looking at that turned me off of it; it looked like pieces of fish cooked rare. These people are clearly using extremely low quality meat and to top that off, they don't even do a good job cooking it. I was really grossed out. Hell, even the cream cheese wontons were done wrong... the cheese on the inside had a pasty texture, and barely any taste to it and the wontons were not even warm (which I don't understand since the food was delivered in 25 minutes). The best part of our $23 order, as my roommate agrees, was the fortune cookies. Give this place a miss... there are other Chinese establishments that will deliver and have a far superior product for your money. Going to go brush my teeth now! Ew!

One measure of the quality of life in any given urban area is the availability of Chinese delivery. We've reached a point in American history where anyone in the country can drive to get their own Chinese food. But to have it brought to your door, well that is a uniquely Metropolitan experience. For instance: you come home on a Wednesday and don't find anything you want to cook in the fridge; your new Netflix DVD just came with some episodes of Twin Peaks (because you've been on a bit of a Memory Lane trek lately); you need some nourishment, sans MSG; some really good hot and sour soup and an order of Sechuan Beef is the perfect compliment, either to early nineties David Lynch, or whatever else your evening has in store; it makes you glad you live in the city, where you don't have to leave the house to get it. Joy Luck offers consistent and cheap service with decent quality, they're not stingy with the peppers (or fortune cookies), and would merit three stars of adequacy just for being your average neighborhood Chinese restaurant. However, one rainy night I called and when the guy had come and gone I realized he'd forgotten the soup. Bummer, but no biggie. I didn't call back or anything. Fifteen minutes later the doorbell rang, and it was the soup. The guy saw he'd forgotten it, and came back out in the rain. So boom: a fourth star of fandom.

Not entirely impressed. Decided it would be. Good lunch fix for a day off at home. Having just bought a house in the Camden area I am always looking out for neighborhood eats. I decided to go with the Sesame Chicken plate with chicken fried rice. Not too adventurous, I know. However I must say that the sesame chicken was less than good. Large chunks of chicken-y batter mess that was slightly cold in the center. I had to pick around for pieces that were warm and also manageable. The chicken fried rice tasted like it came out of a box on the supermarket shelf. Nothing special. The 3 things that saved this from getting 1 star were: 1, the egg roll, pretty good. Wonderful texture and hint of spice in it. 2, the price. Very cheap, pretty comparable though to some other places I've been. And 3, portion size. For a lunch special it would have been plenty of food for a second meal or even a third. I may go back again some day and give them a second chance.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
