This place is incredible. Super friendly staff, amazing food, and inexpensive buffet. My favorite place in Twin Cities - I come a few times a month and it consistently serves food that makes you feel great because of its authenticity and ingredients. Taste the love that goes into this place we are lucky to have. You will get hooked on the value and taste of buffet, but you also need to come for dinner and order from the menu for different, great experience fried appetizer sampler is divine. I tipped 20 bucks on the lunch buffet (10.95) once because it tasted so great, I keep telling owner he should charge more than he does!! He just smiles and laughs saying things are fine. He asks about my family and sits down to say hello if I am eating alone. Support this independent business that offers food at a value no chain can compare to in price or quality! You will come out the better for it, trust me.

The food was excellent and service was great too. Had the Chicken Curry (hotness level 4), Lamb Briyani (level 3), Samosas, and Garlic Naan. The Samosas were okay (I've had tastier more flavorful). The chicken curry was good but not exquisite. The lamb briyani was EXCELLENT. The rice is full and well flavored. The garlic naan was also very very good. As a person who likes trying new places I would be tempted to go here again instead of trying a new Indian/Nepalese restaurant.

Came here once, twice and many times...and yet, I still order the same dish: Chicken Tikka Masala...what is wrong with me?! This dish is so good that I wish I could have a whole pot to myself. It is buttery and tasty, I really like to pour a lot onto my rice. Thinking about it makes me hungry again. Yes, I usually get that dish when I don't know how to make it. I will try one day:) We ordered an Okra dish as well and that is super good. It is a must! Don't forget to order Naan bread. We enjoyed our meal. I heard their buffet is great, I need to try that soon! I had never been to the old location on Franklin but this space is a good size, they have extra room in the back. Yes, it is a great place for group size. Bathroom is located downstairs so watch your steps! When I first visited here , they were a little slow in getting our orders and acknowledging us but things got better. Good job on that! They have a parking lot.

Delicious. Great service and perfectly cooked food We ordered the chicken dumplings as an appetizer and then tandoori chicken and lamb tikka masala for main. Everything was so delicious. Will definitely be back for more.

The first thing you need to know about this place is medium hot is what I call "Minnesota hot". It's not hot enough for me but then again. I'm the girl who complains that the pickled jalapenos you get in a can barely tickle. Hotter than ketchup, barely able to be felt 60 seconds and a swallow of water later. So if you like it hot, say hot, or you're not going to get it. I had the lamb curry. I will go back here just for the lamb curry. But I will order it hot the next time. I liked the fact they brought me more rice and didn't charge for it. Nothing worse than having an amazing curry and not enough carbs to sop it up. Lunch buffet 7 days a week. Perhaps that will be my next adventure here.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is very good. The food is very good typical Nepalese style and the spice level is very good. They have good selection of menu items and good service. Would love to go again.

First of all if you are coming here on a weekend night I highly suggest making reservations, they were packed on a Friday night and yes, thankfully we had made reservations. The owner and his staff are wonderful. Very happy to see you and very helpful with making choices. He and his staff checked on us throughout the night and we felt very welcomed. The food is good and they are very thorough about making it to your specifications. We had people at our table that liked their food mild and others that wanted volcano status and EACH and everyone of us were pleased with our spice levels. I strongly suggest ordering the Himalayan platter that has a mix of their appetizers. Everything on there was delicious and so were the accompanying sauces. I especially loved their Samosa (biggest one I have ever seen) and the Aloo Ko Pakora, so delicious. I ordered the lamb tikka masala. It was very buttery in flavor, the sauce was very tasty, but I found the lamb a little over cooked and very little of it in the dish. Hubby ordered the Choyala with chicken at a volcano level. His meal was huge, definitely could share this with 2 people. His spice level was on point and he says he would order this again. Our guests loved their food and took the extras home with them. We ordered the garlic naan, it was huge and excellent. The mango lassi, was so good we ordered it again. Good food and a nice diversion from the Indian food we have come to depend on.

Outstanding food and really nice people. Great for both lunch (get the buffet) or dinner. They also deliver through bitesquad! Approachable food even if you are new to Nepalese cuisine. Some favorites: Samosas are huge and delicious. Chicken Tikka Marsala is so good I get it every time, even though there are so many other entrees that look good! Garlic naan is okay by itself, but excellent when used to wipe up leftover sauce from an entree.

Nice little place. I think I chose this place by default. I had driven by and saw that it wasn't at all busy, drove home picked up my boys and headed back over. Ordered: Samosas- nice sized. Two orders of the garlic naan- very good. Chicken Baryiani Aloo - potatoes were a nice golden brown. All of which were satisfying, tasty and fulfilling. The garlic naan took kind of a long time, but well worth the wait. The sauce that comes with it, a nice tomato cilantro sauce is excellent for dipping. Refills could have been a few more, but not a biggie. Friendly and helpful staff. Will return

Best Nepalese restaurant in Minneapolis, hands down. Especially, for the value to quantity/quality ratio you get here. Service is friendly, the curries are all phenomenal, and OH MY GOD THE NAAN. If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be the fluffy, buttery goodness of the naan from The Himalayan. You also have to get the momos with tomato chutney. They're the best I've had in the Twin Cities. Now that they've moved even closer to my neck of the woods, this will be go-to place when I get my monthly curry craving.

Yelp should let a restaurant's reviews follow it when it changes locations, or at least provide an easy link to check the old location's ratings: the Himalayan at its previous location had 129 reviews with a 4.5 rating. The only important thing that's changed with the new location is more room. I must go back soon!

I've checked out this place a few times, both their old location and their new location. I was pleased with both locations; although, I like their new location better. It's a better neighborhood, and it's more accessible. Last year, I was there for their Dining Out For Life dinner. Dining Out For Life is a cause I'm more than happy to support (the event benefits local HIV organizations). I am glad that Himalayan Restaurant hosted this. This place did an amazing job at everything they did that night. I have not forgotten about it to this day. The layout of this place is beautiful, not too fancy and not too plain. It's got a good amount of character that can make a good conversation starter. The employees there seem to do a great job at keeping everything clean. Every time I've been there, the waitresses there were prompt at cleaning every table after the guests left. Due to such hard work, I have felt comfortable there when I have dined there. The employees there are friendly and helpful to me. I love ordering from them. During their slow times, I've been able to hold a good and productive conversation with a few of them, and they've had some good things to say. The food has been served to me in a timely manner. I don't think I've had to wait any longer than ten minutes for a plate, which I think is reasonable. The food there is delicious! The cooks there do a great job at what they do. My one complaint is that sometimes, they can overdue the spices in their spicy foods. However, they're more than happy to tone it down when told to do so. When I am in the area, I will continue checking out this place. I look forward to more quality meals from them.

My wife and I are big fans of this place and Gorkha Palace. It's a bit of a toss up as to which one is better. I think Hamalayan Restaurant has the edge in flavor, value and friendliness, while Gorkha has the edge in ambience, professionalism and food texture. But honestly you can't go wrong with either of them.

I love this place! Unfortunately I haven't been to the buffet but I plan to. The last time I was there the service was just okay. The order we got at first wasn't ours but the server noticed pretty quickly and came back not too much later with our meals. I got the lamb biryani and thought it was very delicious but for the price I was hoping to see more meat. BF got some tomato noodle dish that was also very good and full of veggies. Try to go when it's not too busy, the service might be better. Also, the mango lassi is to die for. Get that shiiiii.

Delicious! First time trying this type of food and we all really enjoyed it. Waiter was helpful with answering all our questions and giving suggestions. Not what I typically eat but was glad I was daring. Will definitely eat here again.

Good people, good food and awesome experience. Been here and tried their buffet which is excellent although they hav very few entree items in buffet. They have fresh food all the time. Also MoMo here is the best among the 3 Nepalese restaurant we have in MSP area. Gr8 experience.. Gr8 food ... 5 stars

The staff is so friendly! It's a cute little place and the food is great. I've order from the menu and also had the lunch buffet and both were great. I find myself craving the food quite often! The appetizer sampler is a must! well worth it! They were very accomodating and made space for our large group.

I never made it to their Franklin location, but I recently tried the buffet at their brand new location on Lake. The atmosphere was pretty basic (although I'm sure this will develop with time). The food tasted good but not great. I was expecting something spicy like Indian food, but it was fairly plain. I plan to go back and try their momos and curry from the menu.

Yum! I ordered delivery from here through Bitesquad. I'm so glad I tried it! I ordered the Kathmandu momos (ground turkey & pork), Chicken Tikka Masala, and garlic naan. The momos are little pillows of awesomeness - they are like steamed wontons that have a tasty, broth in the middle. Everything was so comforting and delicious! Will definitely need to try dining in next time.

We live about an hour's drive east from Minneapolis, and have been going to Himalayan for the past two years once every two months or so. It's been our go to place to quench our Nepalese food cravings. We went there yesterday and found that they had just moved to a new location, a much nicer setting than their old location. One thing that me and my wife love about Himalayan is that unlike most Nepali restaurants across the US, Himalayan stands out because they serve true Nepalese cuisine and do not mix up with Indian. The quality and the standard of the food remains true to its roots. For someone new, I would highly recommend their lunch buffet - a good variety of offerings, freshly made, and tastes like home-cooked. Try the juicy succulent dumplings 'Mo: Mo:' in the harsh Minneapolis winter and you can't go wrong!!

This restaurant has the best steamed and fried momo's in the Twin Cities. I recommend ordering off of the menu, the food is fresh and flavorful. We spent a month in Nepal this past year and when we want authentic Nepalese food, we go here. They also participate in various fundraisers to give back to the community and others. Recently, they donated their proceeds to the earthquake relief funds and they participate in dinning out for life.

Ordered takeout on July 3rd, but when we got there someone else had picked up our order on accident. No problem, these things happen, and the other customer should have paid more attention. They were very accommodating while they rushed a re-do of our order (mango lassi? yes please!) and apologized several times. The food was fantastic - the best Nepalese/Indian we've gotten in the Twin Cities. We got the lamb tikka masala, the saag, garlic naan, and veggie momos. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, and you could see everything that went into your dish. My curry has a rich flavor and an aroma that I could neither identify or get enough of. The saag was crisp and fresh, no overcooked frozen veggies here. We both ordered our dishes medium-hot and felt they were flavorful but could have used a little more heat. We will be back soon!

I'm not familiar with this type of food, but it was really delicious! They offer all of their meals with a non-spicy option, which took away my predispositions about Nepalese/"Indian" food. I had the shrimp and coconut curry and momos. My mom had the thupka. Both DELICIOUS.

I love the food. My only issue ever is the chai always comes after the entrée and I've never been asked if I want a refill. I recommend the katmandu curry. Also their momos are amazing. The owner is very friendly and seems to know everyone. The new location is much more spacious. Try them out!

First timer on Lake Street and of course there was a snafu. Our order wasn't placed and we waited, and waited... one of us went up to check out the situation. They seemed not to know what to do about it, excuses etc After some time they comped our drinks-minimal and gave us some deserts. I had some sort of soup which was salty but my friends liked their food when they got it. They were perfectly charming but I will probably only go at lunchtime for the buffet if I go at all.

I had the buffet, on a Sunday morning which is really cool. It's interesting that they have the generic potato salad. I was actually glad after I had something spicy (normal). They had their own type of potato salad which was loaded with herbs and flavor. I liked the chicken drumsticks a lot. They had a yummy berry salad. There's a lot on this buffet. It's great to finish it off with the rice pudding. They spice things just right. Love the new digs, and a parking lot.

Today was the first time trying Himalayan cuisine, though we have tried a lot of Asian and Indian dishes. We decided on the buffet as it would give us access to more than one type of dish. I liked what I had and did put a little portion of everything available on my plate (s). I did feel like their spice level was "dumbed down" for the buffet.. maybe to appeal to the masses? However there was still wonderful flavors that came through. We ordered an appetizer off of the regular menu because I cannot resist dumplings of any kind. We had the Kothe with pork and turkey mix... best dish of the day. Wish I lived closer, then we could try more items.

My favorite Nepali/Indian/Tibetan cuisine within a 100 mile radius to this date. It's homemade Nepali comfort food at its finest served in a versatile setting-- romantic date, good friends getting together, family dinner...it works for any of these. It always smells wonderful --Indian spices mixed with a slight bit of incense. Clean, attentive service, exotic but not pretentious. A fave meal includes: goat curry and sautéed mustard greens accompanied by one massive piece of naan, a fluffy side of rice and a plentiful supply of hot masala spicy tea with milk. Often we order an appetizer of Kathmandu momo- steamed dumplings--I like the yak filling-- which comes with a savory tomato cilantro sauce. This alone would make a comforting, filling lunch. Also a nice little wine and beer list if you feel inclined. Himalayan Restaurant is a lovely place to dine again and again.

Weekend buffet, yes please! We were late adopters to this local fave and now wonder, "what took us so long?" Love love the food here. We've had both the buffet and ordered for dinner off the menu. The ambiance is casual but clean. Have yet to try the mo-mos but they looked delish.

Their weekend lunch buffet is under $10. The dinner Manu is slightly more expensive but still reasonable. We love their curry and naan.

If you are coming here for the fist time, there is no reason to not get the Chicken Tikka Marsala. It is my favorite Tikka Marsala around. In fact, while the other food here is good, the Tikka Marsala is so good that there is no reason not to get it every time you eat here. Actually, I see you need not ever eat anything ever again that is not the Tikka Marsala from Himalayan. Since moving to Lake St. they have added Biryani, which is good, but once again, ...
