I'm still dreaming about their Al Pastor Burrito - Haven't had any burrito like it!

Best tortas in Mpls. Would agree with others that it can be a little greasy, and that some of the entrees are very similar, but I don't eat here to adhere to my cleanse. Hungover? Torta Cubana and a large ice-cold Horchata.

I love this place. It isn't the best quick Mexican I've had, but it is way better than Taco Bell, which happens to be next door. Seriously, if you just need a quick meal or a hangover lunch (you know, when you wake up so late you've missed weekend brunch) this is the place that will save you. I love the rojo and verde salsas they have, super super good! I get the Sopes smothered in them, and the bonus, without meat these bad boys are only $2.99. I also adore the cheese Quesadilla, it's hard not to feel the love when full of cheese and for $4.99 it's a winner. The flavors are fresh and simple. I tried the Tamarind Tea the other day, and I think it was good, or I'd like to try it again anyways, I was just too out of it to enjoy anything but water. If you catch my drift. The staff is friendly and sometimes you wait a little long when it's busy, but it's fresh people, so just give it a chance!

My wife and I stopped here to pick up dinner on the way home from a doctor. This is another one of those places that has been tempting me on Lake Street. Whenever I stop in a Mexican place, the first thing I try to check out is the burrito since I'm always on the lookout for a good burrito. Who isn't. Anyway, their burrito did not mention anything like lettuce or tomato, so I thought it was worth a shot and I had to try it with the carne asada to develop my normal baseline. I also got some horchata, which was served in a big 32-ounce cup. The burrito was good, not great. I was glad that it included rice, which was not mentioned on the menu board. It also seemed to include some refried beans, but not too much. Next time I visit I will ask for a burrito without beans since I'm not really a fan of the stuff. It also had a modest amount of cheese along with some beef and somewhat spice salsa. The beef turned out to be a little gristly, but overall the burrito was a good value (it was a $4.99 monthly special). The horchata was as good as I was expecting. My wife went with the barbecue pork sope and enjoyed it, especially the way the masa seemed to be pressed with a waffle iron. That's an idea we are dropping in our bag of tricks. There was a little screw-up with the order, but everything was made right in a cheerful manner. The parking was an adventure as it took us a couple tries to find the correct entrance to the parking behind the restaurant.

Although you could call it "authentic Mexican", that doesn't automatically mean it's good. Yes, they use authentic ingredients. Yes, they speak Spanish. No, it's not tasty. This is the restaurant that makes Jim Gaffigan's skit about Mexican food true. The one where he says enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, they all taste the same they're just in different shapes? Yeah that one. They serve all that shit here. If you like bland, unseeming food covered with too much queso fresco, this is the place for you. Whoever came up with an inspired name like "Fat Little Fatty" is a genius. Too bad NOBODY in their right mind wants to get fat off this food.

Wow. Way better than Pineda's. Their BBQ pork on anything is divine (and even has blackened pieces). We really loved their chicken empanadas, as well. The best empanada I've ever had. Hands down.

When you walk or drive by this place, it's really not one that most people would even give a second look to. But while my car was having it's tires replaced and I wasn't mobile, it seemed as good as any time to stop in and have a bite as I really wasn't feeling fast food. When you walk in you are greeted by some amazing smells of grilling meat, and warming tortilla... It reminded me more so of being down in Puerto Vallarta than Ocampo usually does. I am on this new no meat kick, so I got a Quesadilla and asked that they sub in tomatoes in place of the meat (which they were more than happy to do). Kyle got empinada's which I kinda had a worrysome thought at when he ordered them after some of the experiences I have had with them elsewhere. They called out our orders and what sat in front of me was a mix of mexican yumminess, and americanized sloppiness. I pulled open the quesadilla to pour on some of the green salsa and the red chipotle sauce and for a second I had to look to see any melted cheese, it was kind of a weird sight to be honest, but I spoke with one of my friends (and have recently cooked with) about Queso Cheese and no understand that it just has to be warm, but it's quite difficult to melt. Either way it tasted WONDERFUL! Even the beans and rice that were part of the meal deal were awesome, though it is a good idea to save some of your salsas and a pinch of salt for that part of the meal :-) All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Though some of the food here has a strong tendency to be bland, a little spice and a little salsa goes a LONG way on their food! Also: Note to people who HAVEN'T been to Mexico, the vast majority of their foods are NOT spicy, that is something that much like a good chinese place, they will let you spice it up at the table.

This place is small and it's pretty minimal in appearance. It's almost under the 94 bridge, so it's seems kind of dingy and troll-like. Grimey and full of charm. My kind of place. I ordered the chicken tapas. It was like a mexican pizza in a way. My food was amazing, very flavorful and well made. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. The prices were a little steep, especially considering you don't get a lot of food for what you pay. I'd go back here again. But probably only when I'm feeling rich.

One of my favorite hole in the wall Mexican places in Minneapolis! The quesadillas are cheap and delicious. I've had the sopes, too, but don't like them as much. There is nothing better in the world than a hand made corn tortilla stuffed with chicken, cheese, crema and queso fresco. Yum!

There's better Mexican down the street at Ocampo, La Loma or Pineda BUT Gordita el Gordo (the entry is spelled wrong, yo) is decent if you don't mind having a pretty greasy meal. I do love the horchata without question but the entrees are questionable (in terms of my enjoyment, not necessarily of the quality). I have been here a couple of times and I have always ordered the el pastor gordita--I forget how greasy it is every time. It's still good but rrreal greasy. I prefer any one of the places listed above but in a pinch I would stop here again at least for some cold, sweet horchata.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
