Back with three friends the other night to sample more fare. Started by sharing appetizers of Battered Green Beans and Fried Pickles. Both addictively delectable and left us wanting more. But we virtuously held back from ordering more so as to leave room for main courses and desert. I had the Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib with garlic beans and mash. The rib was densely flavorful and the Dragon's Milk reduction added a rich, savory compliment to the tender beef. Beans were crisp and the mashed potatoes held their own on the plate. I also have to make special mention of their outstanding homemade Ginger Ale packing a sharp, spicy zing. Refreshing and delicious! A buddy had the Asian Hangover which he very much enjoyed. The other two had the Fish & Chips which they found as top notch as I had on my previous visit. For desert I tried the Key Lime pie. Served more like a tort with a very dense graham cracker crust, I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. We waited around 40 minutes for a table, killing some time at nearby Patina. Honestly, 40-45 minutes is at the outer edge of what I'm usually willing to give a restaurant. I'm glad we stuck it out.

An identity question has been hovering around in academia for a long time: Why England doesn't celebrate its patron saint? Why St. George Day is not being celebrated as glamorously as St. Patrick's Day? Several explanations have been offered: one, supported by a recent survey, argues that many Brits are concerned that symbols pertinent to St. George, including his Cross flag, are racist. They probably don't want their children to learn slaying the enemy of the people and coerce them to convert to a new religion will solve their problems!! If that's the case, the progressive social norms suggest that a PC version of the story is what England needs the most! We need a James Finn Garner to revise the story. Until a PC account of the legend is written, George and the Dragon, the medieval legend's namesake pub in SW Minneapolis, is the best alternative we've got. So my recommendation is to take your children to the SW Minneapolis pub instead of reading the legend to them before bed! In addition to obvious reasons (like a shelf of books and games for kids, something you usually don't expect to see in a pub) here is why George and the Dragon, the restaurant, is good for your children and George and the Dragon, the legend, is bad for them: 1- George and the Dragon, the pub, teaches them to look more realistically at life: in real life, unlike in the legend, timing usually sucks. In the legend however timing is fantastic. The knight was taking an excursion near Silene's water supply at the exact moment when Princess Cleolinda was headed to the lake to feed the dragon with her own flesh. In real life, you can't expect to get a table if you go to George and the Dragon without reservation for dinner, even if it's a weekday. If you don't make a reservation days ahead of time, you must wait at least an hour and I promise no knight will show up out of nowhere to save you from the dragon of hunger. An hour waiting outside the pub is enough time for the dragon to eat you alive, floss his teeth, and take a nap. 2- George and the Dragon, the pub, teaches them to respect other cultures: unlike in the legend where Christianity (Europe?) triumphs over Paganism (backward Europe or non-Europe?), in the pub, "non-European" menu items are as good as, if not better than, "European" foods. I, for one, won't willingly trade the Asian Hangover with any other foods on the menu: very tender, extremely flavorful braised pulled pork, nicely battered fried green beans, and fried egg on a bed of steamed jasmine rice. From the "European" side of the menu, the Dragon Burger is with no doubt one of the best burgers in town: a very tasty, freshly prepared, good sized beef patty with Pepper Jack cheese and slightly spicy chipotle mayo. And these are only two of many good foods the pub has to offer. 3- George and the Dragon, the pub, teaches them to value green beans: who needs swords and fencing skills when there are green beans and cooking skills? I'm sure if the dragon was offered some of the pub's battered green beans, he would voluntarily surrender himself to St. George, marry the princess, and choose a more esteemed vocation other than hanging out in the pond and eating other people's sheep, girls, and wives. George and the Dragon's battered green beans are that good: they tame the wildest, most violent dragons. So, order them for appetizer or if you get a sandwich, pay the extra two bucks and substitute your homemade chips with green beans. But be careful if someone else is buying them for you: make sure that you're willing and ready to agree with whatever they will ask you to do; because it's hard to say no to whoever buys the George and the Dragon's green beans. Don't be sure of your will power. Just like the princess's girdle, the pub's green beans turn the most savage beasts into gentle pets on leash. 4- George and the Dragon, the pub, teaches them to look for more elegant ways to impress others: wasn't it better if St. George prepared a good dinner for people of Silene and sat with them and the already tamed, green beans-addicted dragon and his new wife, Princess Cleolinda, and asked them to talk their differences out? Was it necessary to drag the wounded dragon by the girdle to the city to scare already terrified people and technically threaten them that he would slay the dragon only if they convert to Christianity? It might be easier to coerce terrified people to convert than to convince full and happy ones. But then your progeny may feel they don't want to celebrate your day, because what you've done, although courageous, is racist!!

I loved this place! The bartender dude was really cool and knowledgeable about the beers. Our server was very nice as well. She forgot my wife's beer for about 5 minutes so she comped her a freshie, so that was nice as well. The food is totally legit. I had the short rib and it was super tender and delicious. The Wife had the Fish and Chips and they are battered perfectly and very tasty. I am not sure what else to say... just look at the photos of the pictures on Yelp. They are a very accurate representation of what you will get. And yes... it was all just as tasty as it looked! This is definitely a place that is going into steady rotation for me when I make it up to Minnesota. I will be back over Christmas and I will be hitting George, and his Dragon, up for some more food while I am there!

Wow, this is going to be one of our "go to" spots. I was super impressed with the staff, atmosphere, decor...FOOD! We stopped in at 6:45pm on a Saturday, wait was 30-45 minutes. We had our 9 year old and our 8 month old along. Wait went by quite quickly, we went next door to Patina , my husband wishes that store wasn't there. We looked around that store and by the time we came back to George and the Dragon, our table was set and waiting for us. I ran to the bathroom quickly and LOVED that they had real hand towels instead of paper. The little touches make a big impact with me. We sat down and our waiter came immediately with cold water and menus. Kids menu was great! My 9 year old usually gets irritated by kids menus, but they had some of their regular menu items on it. He went with Bangers and Mash, which he LOVED. The serving size was perfect for him as he was wanting a dessert as well. We ordered pretzel bread for the little one, and he gave it two fists up. He also had rice with eggs and I just have to say, the eggs were amazing! Mama had to try them out. He gobbled everything up. Husband and I decided we would order the Katherine steak salad and the Uncle Bryan burger, both were exceptional. I have to say that out of all the burgers have have eaten at restaurants, this is by far one of the best. The only one that tops it, is the Juicy Lucy at the Nook, but that's a totally different style of burger. Steak salad was two thumbs up, I dug into it before I realized it had cranberries, which is a migraine trigger. I swapped it out with My husband and his burger..score for me! We both agree that the steak salad is awesome! Can't wait to go back and try the salmon and...everything else for that matter. This place is a must try! It's a smaller place, so be patient.

The atmosphere here is nice and cozy. Mahogany wood work surrounded the whole dinning room. I noticed floor is amazingly clean, even in the back area leading to the kitchen. We arrived at 630. It was a full house and people are waiting in line to be seated. Very good sign that they are busy. The food was impressive to say the least. Everything was done to perfection and came out piping hot. The salmon was tender and moist, had a light crust on the surface. The beef rib was melt in your mouth tender and very flavorful. Service was superb! Our waitress was very attentive, she even poured the beer for us. So dinner for 4, 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 burger with fries and 4 ginger beers. The total came to $107. I thought the waitress had made a mistake and under charged us. We were expecting it to be more like $150 or so. I thought it was a bargain! Great dinning experience! We will definitely come back! Keep up the good work!

This is an upscale pub with a great atmosphere! This location took the place of Heidi's, which burned down a few years ago. LOVE what they did with the place and it looks very similar to Lake & Irving in Uptown. I chose to come here as a birthday celebration with my family...so my expectations were based on how they treat their birthday guests. They get a "boo" on that. Any other day, perhaps I'd be more lenient. My birthday fell on a Sunday this year and it was up to me to choose where my family would take me. I chose a place that wasn't too granola-y (since that's how my family describes me behind my back ;-) and saw that George and the Dragon sources cleaner and local food (hooray!). They have only brunch hours on Sundays and seat until 2pm (awwww c'mon...help out the church crowd folks). We arrived around 1:20 and our server was pleasant, but not the kind that makes you feel like you made a good decision (on the menu OR coming to the restaurant), but again, pleasant enough. My mom shared with the server that it was my birthday, but it was sounded like a canned response as she said "oh, happy birthday." Mmmhmm, thank you. You may as well burn my food, too, since you're going out of your way to make me feel so special. Food was tasty, I ordered the highly revered Asian Hangover, which did not disappoint! At the end of our meal, it may have only been a brunch menu available, but c'mon, there's no dessert menu? No birthday dessert? And if they were hiding it because of time, we were ready to order dessert before they were through ordering. If there's a time one gets to order dessert, it's on their birthday DANGIT! Regardless, I'd come back, but most likely only if someone else brought it up.

Five Stars for quality of the food and the waitress, both made for a nice evening. I went for the Bangers and Mash and the Mrs had the Herb Chicken. The Battered Green Beans and Aioli were delicious and the Pretzel Bread was fantastic as well for the appetizers. Cookies and Ice Cream desert was a nice way to end the meal.

Sophisticated yet simple. The details are done right. Good selections have something that will please the rich and the poor (of tastes). Spotless clean. 14 taps. Of which 2 wine. 2 nitro. They support the micro almost nano brewing co's.

Recommend: Asian Hangover, George Burger, and Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib Their meats are always tender and flavored expertly, and the ingredients are fresh. Skip the onion rings and fried green beans. Don't get me wrong, I love fried things but the batter is way too thick. It distracts from the green beans and onions inside and is difficult to eat when the fried portion completely separates from the veggie. Cute neighborhood space and nice bar spot for a drink with friends. Next on my list is trying one of the salads.

Yas! I've been to GnD once before for my last birthday with my hubby and bro, and most recently just this weekend for some lunch after picking up our cat's food from Woody's right down the road. My birthday experience was fantastic. We started with the bacon and onion dip. Our eyes were as big as dinner plates when they brought that out, I've rarely seen an app disappear that fast. I splurged since I wasn't paying and got the St George steak for dinner. It was wow good, there's something about bearnaise sauce on steaks that just takes them to another level. If I remember correctly, both the bro and hubby got the Dragon's Milk short ribs - also done to perfection. We did mention it was my birthday and I got a $5 gc (which of course I forgot this weekend). This weekend I went for a burger this time and got the Uncle Bryan, which has all the things I love on burgers (avocado, blue cheese, BACON). I ordered it med-rare and it came out that way, juices everywhere! The fries were big, crisp on the outside but still nice and soft on the inside. I had told hubby about the morel burger, and as luck would have it, it was still on special, so of course he was all over that. I tried a bite, loved the flavor but the mushroom texture was just uggg - if you love mushrooms this will be right up your alley. Some things to note: It's a small place, so make a reservation if you're coming for dinner, and make it early. We grabbed seats at the bar for lunch, no wait at all. Their beer selection is great, but not huge. For my birthday dinner I had a glass of Boom Island's Brimstone, and for lunch some saison from Insight Brewing, and they have some British selections as well. There were no kids at dinner but quite a few during lunch, and they were small, and loud. Hubby said there wasn't a changing station in the restroom. It's S Mpls, so you can guess how fun it is to find a parking spot. I'll have to make it by here for lunch more often, there's many things on the menu I still want to try!

Being on a diet sucks. Drinking shakes and eating bland healthy crap the past couple of weeks made me a not so happy person. I was so looking forward to cheat and forsake my program and where can I do that best? George and The Dragon! Granted, there maybe some selections on the menu that can be diet friendly choice - those weren't what I was going to order. Dita D and I were thinking lunch last week and we agreed to come here when she found out I have never been. She sounded so excited so I got so excited. I only had one thing in mind since we decided where lunch would be - Burger! I had a juicy beautiful burger in between a glistening perfectly toasted bun in mind for a week as I was downing my shakes. I tried to do the mind over matter thing and suggested to my brain that my shake tasted like burger but it didn't work so well. There's really nothing that can take a place of a great burger. Finally the day came and I had to drive almost six hours from Davenport, Iowa to make it to lunch. It wasn't as planned but though Dita offered to reschedule I told her "Heeeellll Noooo." The besatch didn't have a clue how much I needed that burger in my life that day. I was so hungry when I got there at 12:30. I had that shake in me at 6 am and I munched on corn nuts for six hours one kernel every 10 minutes or so to keep me up. I was ready for lunch!! I was starving!! Dita gave me the run down on the menu since she has been there six times and she genuinely loves this place. Glad she made a reservation as there was no single table open except the prime corner booth that happened to be our reserved table. We were greeted right away and our server was darling and on top of her game. When I went to the bathroom and tried to find it, everybody helped pointing the way and all the staff that were in my way, including the owner, stepped away to the side and made way for me. That was super cool and I felt so special as customer just from that small gesture. We ordered the bacon and onion dip as Dita said it was the shit and a favorite amongst our friends. It was really good and I couldn't stop eating it. It made me feel a little guilty as I didn't plan on the extra calories of this super creamy, cheesy, bacony dip served with pressed toast points. However, I was hungry and that thing was in front of me so there was no other choice for that dip except going in my belly. I ordered the special of the day burger that came with morel mushrooms and smoked Gouda cheese. You know me - once I heard mushrooms, there's no turning back. Plus, this was in season morels. Oh yumm. Dita went with the Dragon burger. It came with spicy stuff like chipotle mayo and pickled peppers. It's hot like a dragon fire! My burger was perfection. It was done medium and it came out so juicy and the flavor was so balanced between the Gouda, the mushrooms, and the bitter arugula. It was really well done and I didn't remember lately eating that good of a burger. The bun was exactly as how I pictured it. It was perfectly toasted, soft, with nice crust. It really satisfied a craving like pregnant woman with a gigantic jar of pickles. It was just delicious. I ordered the fried green beans and though I loved it, I looked for some tempura sauce to dip that thing into. The truffle aioli was great but wanted some tempura sauce. I loved the fries though. They were thick and potatoey. It reminded me of a jojo potatoes but in baton form. Dita's burger was also great. I love spicy stuff though this was far from spicy, I enjoyed the little kick of the chipotle mayo and the pickled peppers. we also ordered chocolate chip cookies for desserts. They were big and ooey gooey. I wish it was warmer though but they still slid down my throat with no issue. Diet you say? What diet? I gained all the pounds I lost from torturing myself the past two weeks in one seating; yet, I felt pretty damn awesome. I would worry about saying oh shit tomorrow. The homemade ginger ale would make me want to come back here every day. That was so good! It was not overpowered by ginger but it was so gingery fizzy quench your thirst type a drink. Plus, they didn't charge for refill. Unreal. I saw some beers people ordered and they looked good too. I had to get some next time. It was a success visit to George and The Dragon and a wonderful way to screw up a diet. It was worth every calorie and it was entirely my choice to overindulge there and boy, I was smart to do so. I think I love George and his dragon. I didn't even make any Game of Thrones jokes.

My number one tip for George and the Dragon is to make a reservation. My friend and I were seated instantly and the people in front of us (that did not have a reservation) were still waiting to be seated even when we left. This place is very small, but totally worth it! My friend and I shared the fried pickles, and I got the bangers and mash. The meal was delicious and there was enough leftover for lunch the next day. There was a decent beer selection, but not as big as I was expecting. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and our food came out really fast. I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner, but be sure to make a reservation!

My favorite restaurant the Asian hangover is my dish of choice the meat is amazingly tender with a rich addictive flavor the jasmine rice with the fried egg is the perfect accompaniment for such a rich dish. Their donuts are dead ringers for mini donuts from the state fair but a little firmer. Fresh squeezed orange juice is amazing but will be gone well before you get your meal. Great value for the price.

Fantastic place run by fantastic people. We stopped in after landing in MSP on our way out to ex-urb Minneapolis and enjoyed great local beer selections and excellent food. I wish I was in town longer to sample more items, but we were all very pleased with the fresh traditional dishes with a twist and the sweetest server we've had in a while. I had the Dragon Burger which was excellent - fresh grind on the burger and hot, but not too hot, peppers and dressing. Fried green bean fries were excellent! I was skeptical, but I was wrong! Cheddar Ale soup was delicious as was my wife's dish, the Asian hangover which was a kind of Bim-im-Bop. Everything was great, top-to-bottom. 4 and 1/2 stars!

This place definitely lives up to the hype. I stopped in for lunch because I was in the area and I was pretty much set on the Asian Hangover, because that's what yelp was telling me was the choice. However, I consulted with the server and he confirmed that it was his favorite thing on the menu as well. SOLD. It came out pretty quickely, as it was about 11:30 on a Monday so it wasn't very busy. I asked for sriracha, but no, sadly they did not have sriracha. Boo hiss. However, he brought me out cholula and two other sauces that were unique and delicious. The pork was like BUTTA just melting in your mouth, with some gravy sauce that was delicious, especially when mixed with the runny egg yolk and the rice and beans. Complete heaven. Service was great, attentive and friendly. I will be back, but there were so many other things on the menu that looked good that I will probably try one of their salads next time!

I tried the G & D Banh Mi & the Lumpia. The G & D was okay, but the Lumpia was really good. I should have gotten 2 orders as a meal. The bar tender is helpful and friendly. They also have what seems to be the standard in Minneapolis, with a good selection of craft beer on tap. No Buttwieser here!

This place is awesome. Came here for dinner with a friend. Arrived early so there was no wait, but it got busy quick! The atmosphere is warm, cozy and comfortable. The service was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave great recommendations. The food was awesome. Very fresh and delicious. I love that there was such a variety of foods! So excited to come back and try something else.

I love this place so much that after trying it for the first time on Valentine's Day, I went back two days later with a friend! That is a restaurant first for me! On my first trip, I got the Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib. Yum. Superb. Awesome. Wonderful. Delish. The mashed potatoes were creamy bliss. On my second trip, I got the much raved about Katherine salad. The other reviewers were right; it's so good that I think I would order this again over the other items on the menu. (Over Macaroni and Cheese? Yes, I'm serious.) The sirloin was cooked to perfection, it had the perfect balance of dressing and well, it was just AWESOME. Cute neighborhood. Cozy atmosphere. Good beer list. Food that will surprise you. I can't wait to go back and I love recommending this place every chance I get.

It's rare to find a bar/gastropub that has just as many healthy, as unhealthy selections, and equally tasty at that, but this place has done it. After eating a very unhealthy, carb-heavy dinner last night, I was craving a good salad with fresh ingredients and was happy to come here. I came here at 3 pm for a super late lunch (thanks meetings, and still being on a Pacific-timezone), so the street parking was super easy and the place was pretty empty. They look like they have a great selection of beers, and I was tempted by the delicious looking-and-sounding burgers, but my stomach was already hating me from last night's bad choices, so I stuck with a salad. My coworker and I did share the fried pickles ($6) which I wouldn't recommend. Instead of pickle rounds, these were sliced super thin, so it almost felt like I was just eating deep-fried breading. Unless you just like to eat batter (and they were kind of soggy, limp and slightly sour), I would pass on these. The chipotle sauce that came with it was delicious, but I think they have that sauce for many other things. They have 4 different kinds of salad and you can add chicken for $3, or avocado for $1 (what a steal, at least compared to places in California -- oh the irony!), but a lot of the salads already come with protein. It was difficult to choose between the salads because they all looked so good, but ended up with the Mary which had salmon, arugula, little chopped up pieces of asparagus, creamy cucumbers (I would skip this next time if I get this salad, it was way too creamy for me and was just unhealthy), tossed with a ginger dressing, and topped with breadcrumbs. I asked for the dressing on the side but it was tossed (luckily the dressing was light and it was not over-dressed), and it probably made for a better tasting salad this way. For $12, this was such a great salad (compared to salads that you normally get elsewhere, and for the fact that it had a decently sized piece of grilled, fresh salmon, and avocado). I'd love to come back and try other salads. They were also really accommodating of allergies & dietary restrictions; I heard the server behind me explain what was gluten or dairy free to another table and she knew all the ingredients in the dishes really well and was really nice about it. I hate when restaurants are a pain the butt about not substituting things out, so I can really appreciate it when people take the time and care to do so. They also have free WiFi if you want to come here to eat and work with a laptop in the afternoon. All in all, I'd come back here again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good meal - healthy or not-healthy -at reasonable prices. Id love to try the rest of the salads and the burger. 5 stars!

I'm a fan of this place! Their brunch menu is the perfect size. Some establishments just try to squeeze so much in and it reflects in the haphazardness for their food and food presentation. Not this place! Simple yet elevated brunch dished with a comfortable twist. Try the eggs benefit and don't forget to add some homemade sugar donuts to the start of your meal. Goes great with their coffee. I'm still salivating for them as we speak.

It's my third time visiting George & the Dragon in 1 year and I'm always impressed. They have a nitrous tap for some of their beers which makes the beers so smooth and creamy! My boyfriend ordered the Dragon Burger medium-rare and it came medium rare! So many places overdo it. I got the Uncle Bryan burger. The bacon was thick-sliced, the avocados were smooth and ripe- everything was delicious! But what really makes me come back for more is the battered green beans with truffle aioli. I could eat those for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and not get sick of them. The one downside is they don't have a full bar. With their amazing food menu I can't imagine what kind of creative cocktail menu they could come up with!

We went on a Thursday evening, having just read a "highly recommended" in a local publication. I called for a 7:45pm reservation. We walked in at 7:45 and, viola!, we had a nice table in the quiet corner by the kitchen. The din here is tolerable - you can talk across the table without shouting - but we were likely in the quietest nook in the place. Our server was prompt, friendly and had a great sense of humor - THANK YOU! We started with the fried pickles with chipotle mayo. Great job - the frickles batter was thin, crispy and had a bit of smoke flavor - really enticing. The mayo was just right - not overwhelming but with plenty of kick to be tasted over a smokey, fried pickle! I ordered the Asian Hangover since it had been highly recommended in many reviews. My wife ordered the fish and chips. The Asian Hangover was decent comfort food, but it wasn't "rock my world" wonderful in any way. The rice was perfect, the green beans crisp, but the pork was reminiscent of my mom's Sunday roast from the days of my youth. Kinda meh. Unfortunately, the fried egg on top was left on the heat a bit long and it had no runny yolk - which was something I was actually looking forward to. The lack of umami didn't assist the dish. I ate every bite - since I hadn't eaten in 8 hours - but it was more like a diner meal than something I'd recommend to others. My wife's Fish and Chips were excellent - I'll rely on her superlatives here: crisp, light batter, outstanding fish flavor, served with a unique tartar sauce and vinegar - perfect pub grub. Well done! The chips were also top-notch. Crisp exterior with excellent flavor. We sampled two beers - the Fulton Lonely Blonde and the Bauhaus Wonderstuff Pilsner. We found both to be somewhat light and unremarkable. Certainly suited to our meals but nothing special. All in all it was an enjoyable dinner and the prices were reasonable. We will likely return to this pub, but only if we're already in the area. It doesn't seem worth a long drive from the 'burbs. The staff deserve a fourth star - all were cordial and accommodating. You made it nice to dine here. Thank you.

Stopped in here for lunch on a Friday around 11:45am, found a place to sit with no wait. The waitress was great - she came at all the right times and kept our water glasses full. The décor inside was cozy and comfortable. The food was great. Too bad they don't have a patio!

Great neighborhood British Gastropub. Really nice beer, cider and wine selection along with great pub food. Our group had the fried pickles, bacon/onion dip and Mac n cheese with bacon to share. Most of us ordered the special Tuesday curry which happened to be meatballs. Very good overall in presentation, flavor and taste. We finished off with a local ice-cream. Would def recommend this place :)

This place is absolutely fabulous. The interior is extremely cozy and very inviting. There are big windows that let in a ton of natural light and dark wood moldings and framing all over the restaurant. Great music, I know the owner plays a lot of vinyl records so you get to hear an entire album while you dine. I've been here a handful of times and each time is just as good, if not better than the last. The service is impeccable. Each time I've been greeted by my server within a minute of being seated. There is an amazing beer selection and $5 mimosa's on Sundays - no liquor though, just beer and wine. It's classic pub food from the UK, and it's done amazingly well. I've tried the fried green beans, Katherine salad, the Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib, and the Steak and Eggs (BRUNCH) - I wish I worked closer because this would defiantly be a weekday lunch spot for me. The fried green beans are AMAZING, the truffle aioli is a must. The Katherine salad is the perfect blend of chilled steak, a perfectly fried onion ring, Amblu cheese and this amazing parmesan dressing. The mashed potatoes that come with the beef rib are like a pile of heaven on your plate and there is a perfect amount of potatoes to meat - so a meat and potato bite EVERY TIME. One thing I didn't like was the green beans that came with the beef rib, don't get me wrong they're good, but I thought they would have been better if they would have been cooked a little longer. I mean I like a fresh vegetable, but no green vegetable I had in the UK was ever "under cooked" - so maybe next time I'll ask for the green beans to be a little more well done. We went here yesterday to try out the brunch for the first time and sat at the bar. I don't know what took us so long to get here. THE BRUNCH IS AMAZING! I got the steak and eggs, my eggs were perfectly cooked, the breakfast potatoes were crunchy but not too crispy or hard, the steak was an actual steak! It wasn't some overcooked flat piece of meat you normally get with steak and eggs. There was an amazing blueberry jam that came with my toast and did I mention $5 Mimosa's? One of my friend's had the Beef Rib Benedict - which wasn't a traditional Benedict (it was served on multigrain toast, had cheese on it, and was served with an arugula salad - she said she didn't miss the potatoes). My other friend had the Breakfast Sandwich - she also liked it a lot. If you live over on this end of town or you live clear across town, this is a must try for everyone who loves comfort food and a comfortable place to eat. If I had 2 extra hands - this place would get 4 thumbs up!

To paraphrase Guy Fieri (and please accept my apologies in advance for doing this) I would eat the chipotle mayo on a flip flop. This chipotle mayo is the most delicious thing I've tasted in a long, long time. I live in St. Paul, so it's rare that I'm in this neck of the woods, but after my husband and I ran a 5K on a Saturday morning at Lake Harriet we were hungry and eager to try nearby joints. This has been on my list for a long time--and now I regret not trying it sooner. Love the ambiance--dark woodwork, tall ceilings, whimsical art--perfect for a cozy gastropub. We tried the fried pickles (with aforementioned chipotle mayo) and they surpassed even my favorite fried pickles (Blue Door Pub's fried pickles). These are my new favorite. Obviously I also had to try the "Asian Hangover"--and OMG. Yum. Slow cooked falling-apart pork in five spice sauce with a fried egg? Yes. I think I will. I will definitely be back. Need more chipotle mayo.

I do not see what all the fuss is about. I had a reservation (or, at least, my name was on the list), but we showed up about 15 minutes early. We saw a booth that was set and ready for two, but we were told to go get a drink at the bar because they weren't ready for us. Fifteen minutes later and immediately after closing our tab at the bar (which couldn't be transferred to the table), we were led to...the booth we saw that was ready when we walked in. Apparently it's not welcome if you're early. Lovely. I had the fish and chips, which were greasy and lacking in much by way of flavor. Edible, and the tartar sauce was decent, but not worth the wait. My friend had the curry of the day, which tasted a lot better than my food. The highlight was our server, who brought my friend a substitution for the rice in the curry without her even asking. I'd give him five stars, and I hope he moves on to a place more deserving of him.

great experience, owner seated us and was very welcoming and friendly. had the steak salad, green bean fries, and that night's special. also tried the pretzel bread and key lime pie. the green bean fries alone i would come back for, fresh and not overly battered. everything was good, would not get the pie again, but not a huge loss. (crust was too salty) entire menu looked good, will have to try more soon!

Do not hesitate to come here, you won't regret it! Last night was my second time here and it was as fabulous as the first! Arrived around 7 on a Monday night and were told the wait was around 20-30 minutes. My sister and I shopped next door at Patina for about 20 minutes and when we came back our table was ready and waiting for us! My sister had the chicken, yummy, and I had the salmon on recommendation, and it was delicious-I'm still thinking about it a day later! I had Millers "choice" of the day which was a citrusy hoppy light beer, great for a summer night! We shared the French press ice cream, that was from Sebastian Joes, and it was excellent too! Great service and atmosphere, kid friendly too! My 2 and 3 year olds loved the bookshelf full of books and the step stool under the bathroom sink! Good food options for them as well!

Very friendly neighborhood restaurant atmosphere. I'll be honest I was expecting more of a "pub" feel, but I suppose this is suppose to be a more modern take. My husband had the Asian Hangover and absolutely loved it, he'd give it 5 stars. I had the George Burger. I did not think it was anything special to be honest. Maybe my burger was missing something because the other two friends with us really liked their burger, and one ordered the same thing as me. Same goes for the fries, I thought they were rather bland. But the others liked how thick-cut they were. Their beer list, however, made me very happy. They have some great English ciders here that you cannot find at a lot of places across the cities. I haven't had an Aspall cider since I've been in England and it is seriously the best cider. Service was also great, everyone was really friendly. We will definitely be back and I will try something else besides the burgers.

I'm giving a full five stars for a few reasons. I called to see if I should make reservations and the host said yes. So, I did. This was about two hours before I got there. We arrive exactly on time. We walked in and the hostess said "are you Chris?" I said "well, yes I am!" She immediately showed us to our table. Very impressive. Keep in mind this was a Wednesday night at 8pm and the place was PACKED. That being said, don't show up expecting to get seated right away! Call ahead! Our waiter was very attentive and friendly the rest of the night. I went with the Asian hangover. Amazing. My date got the salmon. Amazing. We shared the creme brûlée. Also amazing. Our entrees were brought out in lightning fashion and piping hot. Lastly, the tab. To both eat a meal like that and share a desert for less than fifty bucks is unheard of these days. Thoroughly impressed all the way around.

Amazing. Makes me wish I lived here. My last meal in town but the best. Fred is a delight and a wonderful owner with a great business. Enjoyed every item I had. Green beans. Burger fries ribs. Place was packed and rightfully so. I envy you Mn. Keep this gem safe and sound for my visit next year.

Had been trying to make it here for a while now and was looking forward to a nice dinner. Not sure if the expectations had been set too high based on the very high reviews or what. This is my experience: Interior is nice. Thats about it, nice. We started with the cheddar and ale soup. It probably should have been called the ale and cheddar soup. Very strong on the ale side of the flavor. This is certainly not your typical beer cheese soup (nor should it be) but It made me feel disappointed and it missed the mark in my opinion. 4/10 Next we had the lumpia. To briefly sum up the flavor, I would call it a hybrid between a vietnamese egg roll and a mini taco (yes that mini taco). It wasn't necessarily in a bad way, just didn't expect the "mini taco meat" flavor. Maybe Im losing my mind. Not for me. 5/10 For the main course I had the asian hangover. Best part of the meal for me. Didn't blow my mind like I thought it would. I have had similar types of food before (whats it called? Moko Loko?) and this was a slightly better than version. Beef was good and tender with good flavor. If I was to order it again I would order two eggs and mix it together with the rice and beef. The bites with all three components together was the way to go, and one egg didn't spread out enough. 7/10 My guest had the braised beef rib toastie. She liked it and gave it a 8/10. I had a bite and the meat was good, bread was good, mild horseradish was good. Nothing that blew my mind but a solid sandwich. Hand cut fries are well executed and tasty. 7/10. Service was friendly and attentive. Not a bad thing to say about it. All in all, I cant say it was completely disappointing. It was good but not great. With all of the other options in the area, Ill stick with the known great ones and continue my search for more of its kind. P.S. Let me know if I am going crazy with the mini taco flavor on the lumpia.

simply put...we love George & the Dragon. It is our go to place, the only problem is it seems like other people are figuiring this out too. They beer list is excellent. I love the selection of taps they have on nitro and Mr Miller's Pick is almost always a great bet for a great beer. 9 times out of 10 i get a burger and they are fabulous. My favorite is the Dragon Burger but also love the BBQ Burger. The prime rib special when offered is fantastic and my wife loves the fish tacos that are occasionaly the special. The fish and chips have been the only item we have had that we didn't absolutely love, the fish was flacky but not that flavorful and a litlte heavy.

Wonderful pub in delightful neighborhood. This is the kind of place where you are certain it is well run from the moment you enter. We were seated by the owner, who was warm and personable without being intrusive--- I could tell he had an eye on every detail and enjoyed interacting with his staff and customers. The waitstaff is exceptional... Friendly, helpful and knowledgable without pretension. Food is simple and good. Loved the in season heirloom tomatoes! Would definitely return. Could tell most of the customers were locals... Always a good sign!

Very very good. I got the curry chicken salad sandwich and its the best I've had in the states. I also had the green beans but I didn't care to much for the mayo dipping sauce. Would have been better with more of a cucumber ranch sauce. Brian got the Dragon burger very good by it needed a denser bun like a pretzel bun or something because the bottom bun was completely soggy. We would definitely come back though cute little place.

I would give ten stars to our bartender, he was fab! Food alone, I found my food SUPER salty... However, my other three friends all loved their dishes... so, I guess they are alright.

I'd been waiting to eat here and the time finally came! Its a small place, nice, cozy atmosphere Our waitress was sweet and checked in on us frequently, which I always appreciate. We started off with the onion rings, MY GOD! the onion rings were beyond delicious! they came with ketchup and a spicy aioli sauce, num and the fact that you can bite into them and not have the whole onion come out is frickin awesome and makes your onion eating experience better then you'd probably ever had . For our entrees I decided to have the fish and chips, the fish was perfectly crisp, flaky and even better with their homemade tartar sauce. The chips weren't as crispy as i would have liked them to be. My fiance had the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, he enjoyed it even though he said the chicken was a little dry on some parts. I would definitely come back to try brunch or any meal really.

This is a very unpretentious, casual & homey little pub/eatery tucked in on 50th Street in South Minneapolis. The menu, is what I'd consider comfort food, and a bonus is that much of it is natural or organic. I've been here quite a few times now (before I joined Yelp) - so I've tried many things on this menu - and let me say, I have ordered twice from here on a Friday night when I'm lazy and wanting some comfort food. You can call in and order and pick-up (and yes they're on Bite Squad too). I'm going to go straight to my favorite...it is...the bahn mi! I know this isn't even a Vietnamese restaurant, but I love their take on the bahn mi. The seasoned pork is delicious, the carrots & daikon are crisp, and the green beans give this sandwich a nice extra crunch. Savory, flavorful and lots of satisfying texture. My 2nd runner up is the Dragon's Milk braised beef - just wow, this is so tender and juicy and flavorful: mouthwatering good. Get it, especially on a frigid winter night! This is great with a red wine too. Other contenders and runners-up: the beef-rib toastie - the horseradish sauce has nice little kick to it - this is creative a twist on a panini, satisfying with a beer! The Asian Hangover - I'm telling you, this restaurant does everything right with green beans. Another great dish with the bahn-mi style pork + anything with a fried egg is fantastic. And lastly, the regular old classic hamburger - so buttery and delicious! Can't go wrong here. The fries are thick cut and fresh, do not taste oily and over-fried. You can sub (for $2 extra) the battered green beans which are equally delicious, especially with the truffle aioli. For an appetizer, get the bacon & onion dip - this is a divine, salty & cheesy spread, you will want a beverage to wash this down. The onion rings are also classic and light, can't go wrong! The wait on a Friday or Saturday at prime dinner time (like 6:30-8:30) can be awhile, up to 45 minutes. Because it's a cozy place, there isn't a ton of space to stand and wait. There is a bar with great beer on tap (my highbrow beer boyfriend even commented he was impressed by one of the Founders on tap, he's never seen it on tap anywhere). You can order a full meal at the bar as well, and the bartender was very attentive. The owner Fred came over and chatted with us while were at the bar on a late Saturday night, a really genuinely friendly guy who also lives in the area. I enjoyed chatting and glad that he takes the time to come into work and chat with his guests, he's very down to earth - you don't always see this, especially on a Saturday night! Come here on a date, with friends, or with family - this place fits the bill for everyone. The menu is classic yet varied enough to satisfy and keep a person coming back. Bonus: there is a little library for the kids here - cute concept to make it very family-friendly as well.

Amazing service. Most knowledgeable bar tender I've had in forever when it comes to beer (and I'm from Fort Collins, CO... home of the most breweries per sqr mile anywhere). Food was bomb, too. Def deserves the high rating.

Had a lovely evening here one snowy November night a few weekends ago with my husband. We'd been hearing a lot of fiery buzz about George & the Dragon for a couple of years, but this was our first time adventuring there ourselves. The service was warm and friendly. The space itself was quaint and charming. Didn't feel too big or too formal or too stuffy. Just right. As for the food, there were hits and misses. We ordered the battered green beens which had a really nice flavor and awesome, crunchy texture. Then we shared the Uncle Bryan burger and the Asian Hangover thanks to the advice of you lovely fellow Yelpers. Unfortunately, the burger was pretty cold but the Asian Hangover was awesome. Top it all off with a couple affordable glasses of red wine and we had a really lovely, warm, and high-cholesterol night.

My dad took me and my boyfriend there for dinner. I had the Macaroni and Cheese. It had almost no flavor. The server ignored us and seemed to be having way more fun talking to a corner table for 20 minutes after my boyfriend had asked for another drink that didnt show up until we told a different server. Our server didnt care about us or our business.

I've been a few times, and it has always been great! I really like the neighborhood feel of the place. Food is a little high for an everyday lunch, but the prices are very reasonable, in my opinion. Good mix of food and beverages, good for anyone or a group with very different tastes. I recommend this place to all!

I was in Minneapolis for family business and stop by at this restaurant. Yelp wasn't lying. I ordered "Asian hangover" and donuts. They were both amazing!!! Meat was flavorful and veggies were fresh!!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars were I asked to bring donuts after the meal but the server brought it before meal... Pricing was more than reasonable for the quality of food they serve. I wish this place was near where I live....

It's not often that I see 250+ reviews for a little neighborhood bar and grill, but if my first visit is any indicator, they deserve it. I ordered the fish and chips. They came to the table extremely hot, which they should be. Both the fish and chips were seasoned with salt right after they were removed from the deep fryer, which they should be. The batter was wonderfully crunchy, the fries were good but not great. The fries were large and sort of crunchy on the ends but the centers were a little soggy. I will be back to explore the rest of the menu.

Once upon a time, in the distant land of Southwest, rested a quaint gastro pub full of magical and delectable, yet challenging treats. My Asian maiden and I embarked on a journey from the north to battle with George and his magical dragon. It would change our lives (and palates) forever. Once we made reservations for our ambitious quest, off we went through the treacherous cold. We arrived and were immediately met by a friendly gatekeeper. She seated our adventurous selves and requested her brother-in-arms, Pablo, to come assist us on our voyage. With so many paths to choose from, we asked what us northerners should tackle that night. He selected for us, and we began our bout five minutes later... CHALLENGE I: Beer Battered Onion Rings Also known as the Golden Goblets of Gluttony (3Gs), our first task was already incredibly daunting. Even though the onion rings fared as large as modern day donuts, we broke the goblets with our mighty hands and pummeled them into dipping bowls of tomato blood and chipotle lava. CHALLENGE II: Uncle Bryan Burger Uncle Bryan is a medium rare bastard, and he came with his merry men named compart bacon, amablu cheese, and avocado. His clan was met with our steel teeth, and we ripped out their delicious hearts and ate them live. Each one was no match for our deadly appetites. After the bloodbath, Bastard Bryan's disciple of fries was nothing of our interest. However, we decided to kill them anyway. CHALLENGE III: The Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib We were attacked unexpectedly by the dragon's savory and hearty milk braised beef rib. AHHHHH! But we held our defensive positions! At first, the task seemed incredibly daunting, and I would be lying if I didn't confess that the idea of retreat didn't permeate my mind; rather, we sat and fought while listening to the bellow of icy tunes that filled the room from ancient philosophers such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and RJD2. Slowly but surely, we slayed the dragon and her milk braised beef rib, but we did not leave uninjured. CHALLENGE IV: Crème Brulee Unexpectedly, the wonderful Pablo visited to see how we fared with the challenges that he presented to us. Happy that we finished each trial, he then offered an opportunity we couldn't refuse: eating through the lake of crème brulee. After slightly recovering from our wounds, we proceeded to the lake, and we were met with a delicate brown and black ice that covered a creamy, silky, and suffocating bottom. We tiredly shoveled through this exquisite sugary goodness, and finished before we almost died of heart disease. We crossed the lake, barely... Pablo, perhaps the greatest assistant in gastro pub lore, gave us the check. We were satisfied with the cost incurred and rewarded him with many green tokens of our appreciation. Later that night, we proceeded to the north, entered our home, and slept forever, and ever, and ever... The End

Bar food at its best.Cozy setup, trendy drinks , fine dining like service but overall unique in their own way. What more can you ask for at a Pub. The fried pickle with the chipotle dip & Philippino style fried spring rolls with a flavor packed tomato salsa dip have been the best appetizers I have had in a long time . The dragon burger topped with green chillies was over the top juicy and tasty . Fish & chips was truly English crispy soft and light. The tartare dip was divine. This place exceeded my expectations and will offer more than what anyone wud look for !

We finally made it here for dinner. Nice atmosphere. Glad we made reservations even on a Tuesday night, it was busy! We were early and had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. The bartender was very helpful in selecting a nice beer and she helped my wife with her wine selection as well. We ordered two apps, the onion rings and the fried pickles. Both were very good. The fried pickles are sliced thinner than I've seen but they were great. We all had different dinners and everyone was very pleased with their meals. The dinners we had were the fish and chips, the baked chicken, a hamburger (don't know which one she had) and I had the Asian Hangover. Food was great! Great service! Very attentive servers and busers (sp). Very nice and lived up to our expectations. We will be back.

All the ranting and raving about the burgers and this bitch orders a salad. Maybe it's my fault it's a 4 star place to me. Or maybe I'm feeling bad for all the salt mines that run dry from the seasoning on my steak. I'm being overly critical on purpose. I actually really enjoyed this place. Dita D. and the Mr. took Sam W. and I out for a great birthday celebration. There were plenty of awesome things here. From the very nice owner, Fred, who is terribly conspicuous even for a surprise engagement, to the great appetizers that Dita promised we'd love. Promises were kept here as everything she ordered kind of rocked my world. The fried green beans - The breading was crisp and whatever sauce came with them was absolutely addicting. Don't let Dita try and act like this is a healthy option. She was eating as much breading and avoiding as much actual green bean as possible. The bacon and onion dip - This was phenomenal. The thin toasts were just soft enough and the dip was rich and creamy. This one was my favorite and if I didn't care about friendships I would have eaten the whole thing to myself. The fried calamari - Damn. Great breading and done perfectly. No bindery bounce, just perfectly tender. The tartar sauce was lemony but very good. As for my steak salad... I love a good salad and if there's anything Sam can tell you about me and salads it's that I love cranberries on them. It's a thing for me, no joke. This salad should have blown my panties off but it didn't. The greens were okay but the dressing seemed to weigh it down. The big flaw here is that my steak was so unbelievably salty on the outside that I just had to order one more glass of wine to wash it down. Ahem.. I really wasn't impressed with any of the entrees at the table but the appetizers, the unisex bathrooms, the service and getting to watch a cute couple get engaged more than made up for what the entrees lacked. Next time this bitch is ordering a burger.

So, as an impromptu date night, we wanted beer and meat ( long day) and were also looking for something in the neighborhood that we don't frequent often. We stumbled upon this gem and it made us so happy! The wait at 545pm ( opened almost an hour before) was already thirty minutes long! So, we took the two last bar stools on the end. Our bartender grabbed us beers and went over the menu thoroughly yet quickly, which was nice. Right above us was a TV, so the Mr. got to catch up on sports news while I studied the menu. We ordered the pretzel bread to start ( ask for mustard cream or it will only come with butter), and then we split the Bangers & Mash and the Asian Hangover. Our bartender/ guide thoughtfully recommended that we stagger the food into courses so that we weren't bombarded with it all at once. Also, he let us in on a little tip; if you split the Hangover, you each get a fried egg on your half. No messy yolk sharing for us! Everything was delicious and we left no bites behind! We finished up with the Creme Brûlée, which we literally had to force feed ourselves, so full! Altogether, we really enjoyed the time away at this place! We noticed a lot of families with small children, too, which was refreshing. It's a bar, technically, so we were pleasantly surprised by this.

Finding a good place to go brunch on a Sunday afternoon has turned into a sport for my friends and I. Brunch has become a sort of Sunday gathering time for my friends and I to catch up on what's going on in everyone's lives/recount our previous night's adventures. So this month's installment of brunch club we settled on George and the Dragon based on its killer rating as well as location. Parking was relatively easy to find a block away from the restaurant and despite it being a Sunday afternoon we didn't have to wait long to be seated/served. The décor of this place is simple and the layout was spacious considering the restaurant overall isn't terribly large. I ordered the daily scramble which came with bacon, avocado and pepper jack cheese while the fiancé ordered the Asian hangover. My scramble was tasted great with the right amount of bacon and cheese mixed throughout. I also tried the Asian hangover and thought braised pork in the dish tasted amazing. I appreciated the fact that I could order rice with my scramble instead of potatoes but wasn't too crazy about the toast which was pretty dry and almost cracker like (although the berry compote that came with it was great).

With it's fantastically simple menu, matching the minimalistic design of the restaurant, George and the Dragon is worth your time. Try the Asian Hangover, and if you go for brunch, don't miss the homemade donuts!

The green bean app was a definite 10+, had the Asian hangover , cooked perfectly rice was excellent and the Asian 5 spice wasn't overpowering. Not a negative comment I could think of for this restaurant.

Oh brother, this place is a gem. As my friend and I looked over the menu, we had a tough time deciding on our meal because EVERYTHING looked so delicious. After much deliberation, we chose two burgers--an Uncle Bryan and a Dragon burger. The Uncle Bryan came with bacon, blue cheese, and avocado; and the Dragon came with pepper jack, chipotle mayo, and pickled peppers. I wish I could say I slayed the "Dragon," but the burger along with the fries, onion rings, and battered green beans got the best of me. It was a battle that I happily conceded, as I fell into my food coma shortly afterwards. It's hard for me to recommend one specific item to get, since everything was so tasty. I can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. P.S. We sat at the bar and were under the attentive care of "Mr. Miller." He has a strong knowledge of all the beers on tap and even has a rotating tap (Mr. Miller's Pick). Thanks for killing it in the service department. EDIT: I've been back several times, and if I lived closer, I would be here every week. The BBQ burger is out of this world; the Katherine salad is downright scrumptious; and the Asian Hangover is done to perfection. Normally, I would recommend one or two specific dishes at a restaurant, but at George & the Dragon, you really can't go wrong.

Dude. They serve Lumpia! Once I saw that on the menu, my immediate thought was that the owner is Filipino. I was right. He even stopped to chat with us. Explained why he named the bar "George & The Dragon" and pointed out the amazing artwork that are tacked along the walls. It was great that he stopped by to chat with new customers. Good service too! The Lumpia tasted almost like how my grandma made it. Although I wasn't too keen about dipping it into tomato salsa. Guess I'm too traditional. I recommend the battered green beans, which my toddler chomped on happily. (Fried! So what! You know how hard it is to feed a toddler green food? Don't judge me.) Their menu consist of traditional british pub food with some asian meals mixed in. I ate the Banhi Mi with 5 spice pork and green beans. The meat was tasty. Not sure about adding the green beans in the sandwich. The bread was good! The Asian Hangover, which has the 5 spice pork, is large in portion size and recommended. Mac and cheese was eagerly devoured by toddler and adults. Decent beer selection. Too bad I don't live in the neighborhood. I'd come here for futbol matches on the tele. Speaking of tele: one screen? Really? I know he wants this to be a family place, but come on! At least 3. Gotta watch the matches easily from any dinner table. Just say'n.

Went here for my birthday in November and absolutely loved it! The Asian hangover was spectacular as was the creme brûlée. Good selection of beer for the beer snobs in your life. It has the charm and ambiance of an English pub with modern art from local artists on their walls. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The manager was the door greeter that night and I could tell by the way he was greeting guests and going to each table that he is truly passionate about his restaurant.

There's a reason G & the D is consistently rated one of the top restaurants in Minneapolis...it's simply one of the best pubs here, there, or any land far, far away. Unless I live close, I don't return to many restaurants more than once since there are so many different places to try in the Twin Cities, but I made an exception for this fine establishment, and I figured I'd write a review after my second excellent visit in a row. THEY HAD SURLY DARKNESS ON TAP Sorry...had to get that out of my system first. There's no way this second visit couldn't be grand when our server announced that my favorite limited beer was on-hand and ready to devour. To hell if it was only 1 in the afternoon... After I had settled down from my first euphoric descent/sip into Darkness, our table ordered the beer-battered green beans and onion rings. Because one can never have too many fried foods at a pub. Each app is fried perfectly, but as others have mentioned, it's really the sauce that makes them superb. The truffle aioli for the green beans and the chipotle aioli for the onion rings just go so perfectly with each crunchy bite. I'd probably just eat these for a meal if I didn't have to worry about the whole health/living thing. My second time around, I really wanted to try The Asian Hangover after hearing so many good things about it on Yelp. Those reviews hyping this dish are not wrong. Supple, tender, well-spiced pork falls apart in your mouth. The fried egg and generous portion of rice are there to accentuate your porking experience. The garlic green beans are a great palate cleanser whenever you can pull yourself away from the meat for a few seconds. Quite honestly, this dish and my Darkness was one of the best combinations of food and alcohol I've ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. So, the second trip was a success. My first was fantastic, as well. The Dragon Burger and housemade chips (fries) was one of my favorite pub plates I've ever had. The fries are divinely salted and spiced with just the right amount of bite to them (ask for a side of chipotle aioli), and the burger itself was cooked perfectly in between medium and medium-rare with spicy pickled peppers and chipotle mayo supplementing the melted pepper jack cheese nicely. I also tried some of the curry chicken salad sandwich. Unique flavor combination, with the spiciness of the curry well balanced by the sweetness of the cranberries, finished with a nice crunch from the pecans. I had a Young's Double Chocolate Stout with this first meal, which was essentially like drinking alcoholic chocolate milk...who wouldn't like that? The medieval foodie goodness doesn't stop after the entree. I've had both the creme brulee and bread pudding, and they're both top notch, especially the bread pudding. You need to try it even if you've lost the fullness battle already. Be a hero, and go down fighting! G & the D is one of those places that makes you happy to be a part of the wonderful food scene in Minneapolis. I'll probably break my rule again sometime and return for an unprecedented third round.

Simply put...BEST BURGER IN MINNEAPOLIS. That being the Uncle Bryan Burger. I recommend switching the cheese to pepper jack as the amablu cheese is a bit over powering and takes a bit away from the rest of the flavors. The combination of the high quality beef, melted cheese, compart bacon, avocado and the freshest bun is pure happiness with every bite. The burger comes with G&D "chips" which are awesome fries that perfectly compliment the burger. All for $11, you can't go wrong. Throw in a great and unique beer selection, George and the Dragon has definitely figured it out...and hopefully doesn't mess with perfection!!

Easily one of my new South Mpls favorites. I've been here multiples times now for everything ranging from a casual dinner with friends to celebrating a birthday. It really is perfect for most occasions. Cut to the chase: Order anything off the menu and you'll be delighted! I have yet to meet a single complaint from anyone I've dined with here. A few favorites are the Dragon Burger, the Uncle Bryan, and the Asian Hangover. The freaking flavor. I can't get past it. And, should you debate, you should definitely get the battered green beans. The atmosphere is great, especially during dinner. Take note of the artwork and ask the story of how they got their name. The owner has been there every time I've dined and always makes a stop at the table to ask how everything is. Great food, atmosphere, experience, and easy on the wallet!

Best Fish and Chips I've found in Minneapolis. Appetizers are great. Very good beer list as well. Small restaurant, so I'd call ahead for reservations.

This is a historic moment for me. I am writing my THIRD 5-star review for George & The Dragon. Talk about a trifecta, I want the "tri" everything on this menu because I haven't found anything less than perfection. The family and I stopped by for lunch on Saturday and were pleasantly surprised that we could get seated right away. Hubs got the Asian Hangover (one of my favs) and I got the Dragon Burger. The burger was done to perfection. It was medium rare, topped with pepper jack cheese, pickled peppers and a chipotle mayo. Serious party in my mouth! I got half way through my burger and hubs asked if we could swap meals. -Insert dagger eyes here - What is he thinking??! I hesitantly said yes, and glad I did because I fell in love with the Asian Hangover all over again. I got Dakota the kids Banger and Mash. I wasn't sure how the 20-month old would be able to handle a traditional British meal of sausage, mashed potatoes, and gravy but this kid slayed it! Holy man, he inhaled the entire thing and probably would've licked the plate if we let him. That's my BOY!!! On top of the entire family loving all the food, the experience of the super knowledgeable staff, all the books and games in Paco's corner, and the staple of friendly Fred (the owner) that always makes you feel so good about being there, it is the perfect formula to get three 5-star reviews from this gal. Job well done Fred and team! Looking forward to visiting again!

After waiting for 30 minutes on a weekday evening, my anticipation was building. I had never gotten around to trying this place. It was not bad, but I am scratching my head about what exactly the appeal is. Beer list is good with selection of local taps. Wife had bangers and mash, I had "The George," a small steak with fries. Portions were on the small side. Nothing was at all bad, but it was not spectacular. Decent meal, smallish portions, above-average prices. No complaints about the service. Obviousy they are doing something right as it has been chock full of customers since opening two years ago. Seems like a lot of neighborhood people and families with kids.

I took one of my BFF's out for a special birthday dinner, someplace out of the normal realm of where we usually go so I was lead to George by my fellow yelpers! We made reservations for Saturday night and when we arrived, there were few people in the place but within an hour, the place was packed. This is not a large restaurant but the tables are nicely spaced. I had been reviewing the menu all week, so I had picked a few appetizers to try so we had the pretzel bread and Lumpio. Both were excellent. My Irish, British loving friend ordered exactly what I thought she would, Bangers and Mashed and those mashed potatoes were smooth as silk, almost like a puree but not quite as thin. The gravy and the homemade sausage created a perfect dish. You can tell they make their own sausage. I had the special of the night which was fresh Soft Shell Crab, on a Ciabatta with some arugula, tomatoe, etc. I cant remember all that was on it because I was having a full on love affair with my soft shell crab! Service was Divine!! Our server explained everything to us, spotted when our ice was low in our ice teas and brought us an extra glass of ice...WHO DOES THAT?? YES, the AHHmazing servers at George's do! I was already in heaven and patting myself on the back for finding the perfect place for my friends birthday celebration, when we decided we needed to have dessert since it was about an hour before our move started. This is where the review would get pushed to a ten if I could. Key Lime Pie People!!!! Not your ordinary Key Lime Pie. A round Pie, crust made from the Pretzel Bread we had eaten as an appetizer earlier, the most perfect filling made with a little tequila, and real whipped cream. I know you wont fully feel me until you try it yourself. My BFF looked at me while I was saying :"I think this is worth heading over here from St. Paul just to get a piece of this to go"...She roared laughing..I was thinking the exact thing!! This pie is worth driving from anywhere around to get it! That's it folks...if you don't want to eat anything else here, come for the pie. Fred, the owner, even talked to us about his wife and her love of pastries and what an amazing pastry chef she is...We high-fived Fred and tried to get him to make us a promise to never take the Key Lime Pie away from us!! He said it will be around for "awhile"..... I cant wait to come back!

While traveling solo for business in Minneapolis, did a Yelp! search for a Gastro Pub in the city, and George and the Dragon came up at the top of the list. Boy am I glad it did. A small casual room with some local art to add some color, this is not a place you go for decor. The atmosphere comes from a great team in the front of the house, focused on providing excellent service. My bartender was top notch, our engaging conversation extended my stay that much longer. The beer list is approachable, and the bartenders have a good sense for the flavors they are working with, making excellent suggestions for food pairings. The rotating taps suggest that you will never be bored drinking here. The hardest part of the menu is making a choice, there are so many good choices, but based on other reviewers I went with the Asian Hangover. The 5 spice pork shoulder was perfect, lending an exotic flavor to the dish. The rice and green beens were nothing special, until the yolk of the egg got mixed into the dish. Then all of the ingredients came together in a delicious heartwarming meal. This will be a repeat for me.

My first visit today for lunch and I was impressed! Like everyone else I have seen the raving reviews and it has been on my Bookmarks to try for quite a while now. First impressions, it was a lot smaller inside than I thought, no wonder you see people waiting outside all the time. Great feeling of dining out at a nice neighborhood restaurant while still providing an ambiance. Food was great! I had the Pork Tenderloin with an Apple Glaze and Mashed Potatoes with Stuffing. It was a cold afternoon and this meal hit the SPOT! We also had the Herb Roasted Chicken with Mashed Taters, also good but the Pork Tenderloin was something special. It's not exactly cheap for a neighborhood place but the quality and taste of the food more than makes up for the price tag. I still have plans to try brunch and the bangers and mash or fish and chips.

The glorified pub food you get at George & the Dragon isn't a bad thing, but don't expect the joint to be defined as a gastropub until it gets items more rare on the menu than burgers, cheese curds and fried pickles. Came here with some friends the other night and we had a wonderful time. They take reservations here, and if you are early and your table is ready, you will be seated. You don't even need your entire group to be present! I drank the 612 ale all night and it was great. We started out with fried pickles and I liked em. The batter was thin and they fried em hard and the pickle chips came out very good. Different than what I've had at other places, and less salty. Get the fried pickles. I had one of the cheeseburgers, maybe the bbq burger or something, and it was solid. The french fries were good. There were a surprising number of kids/families in the pub, but perhaps that is due to the neighborhood and not the nature of the joint. Give it a try to say you've gone here, but in the end, it's just glorified pub food.

Holy wow! My wife and I love this place so much. We started coming here on a simple recommendation and it has been our go-to place for the last 2 years. The asian hangover is amazing, the uncle bryan burger is on par, and don't miss out on the curry of the day or the fried green beans. The service is great and the food is better, no wonder this place has taken off since it opened. Pro-tip: They are always busy so call ahead and put your name on the list. Expect an hour wait any night of the week.

You need to get the Dragon Burger and the Katherine (steak salad with blue cheese)! Also, their spin on Lumpia was awesome (coming from a Filipino). Probably one of the best restaurants I've been to in awhile! I was very impressed with the food, atmosphere, and service. Perfect environment for date night and enjoying the company of friends.

Meh, not so great. Curry is awesome. It has some charming qualities but lack at neighborhood feel. No reservations but you can call ahead and get on the list 20 mins before you arrive. George and the Dragon didn't live up to the expectations that we gathered from all the reviews we read. It's like a fun party that you look forward to going to but doesn't live up to the hype, it's a letdown. Might go back for happy hour but not dinner.

I've seen so many of my Yelp friends check in here that I had to check it out myself. I thought going on a Monday might help with the crowds but we still had a 25-minute wait. We made ourselves comfy at the bar and found the beer list to be filled with good craft options. Bonus points for beers on nitro. I also gave total bonus points for the vinyl collection and actual record player behind the bar. [Owner Fred sent me a message to let me know the vinyl thing is a Monday-only deal but also that diners are welcome to bring their own, which is even more awesome.] Once we were seated, I had a hard time choosing from the menu (another good sign). I finally went with the BBQ burger. Can I just say, HOORAY for a place that is not afraid to serve a rare burger nowadays. HOORAY! Our waitress asked me how I'd like my burger cooked and didn't blink an eye. The kitchen executed and I was treated to an actual rare burger. If there was no other reason to eat here (and there are plenty), that would be enough. The burger itself was delicious -- nice melted cheese, awesome bacon and a nice soft brioche-type roll. After eyeing it for a second, I chose the "squeeze and blindly take a huge bite" approach and found the burger to be so juicy and greasy (in the best of ways) that I almost needed a second napkin. I also got the side of fried green beans and found them to be really great -- somehow the green beans were still crisp and snapped when I bit into them but they had a tempura batter outside and some fun dipping sauces. Because my hubby loves onion rings, we got those too and MAN, those are some killer onion rings. Light and crunchy but greasy and delicious. I also loved that they do not fall apart when you bite into them (I hate when you bite into an onion ring and drag the whole piece of onion out of the coating on the first bite). Dipping sauce on those was magnificent. It's a slightly spicy mayo type deal. I tried to be polite and use my knife on the first ring but gave up and just dunked after that. Utensils be damned! Hubby got the Asian Hangover which came with very tender, fall-apart pork that was super flavorful, side of (not fried) green beans, jasmine rice and an egg on the top. He cleared his plate, and the one bite I snagged was really tasty. I wish there were more parking but finding street parking nearby wasn't too much of a chore. One more word of caution: I generally eat what I want and don't pay too dearly for it, but I think I overdid it on the greasy fried food quota. Next time I might order just one deep-fried item just for my own sake. You have been warned. ;-)

Fast service and great food! They even have Filipino lumpia that pairs well with any beer! I had the special - the lamb Kafka - it was one of the best I've tasted! I hope they make it a regular menu item. Do try their rotating tap beers - it's always an interesting taste and feast for your taste buds! Great casual ambiance too! If you have kids, bring them over ... it's that friendly but please make sure your kids are well behaved so they don't ruin the ambiance for other folks :).

Love - Love - Love - is all I feel for this neighborhood joint. Quiet, quaint, with a definite European-feel. I had the cheddar and ale soup with the pretzel bread. Could it be any more delicious? Oh yes - add a Stout beer. Wow.

I was excited to try this place because a friend of mine had recommended it and went on a Wednesday night around 7pm. There was a 30-45 minute wait. I ordered the Beef Short Rib, and my friend had the Asian Hangover. The beef was well-seasoned and tender, fell apart easily. The green beans were a little raw, and the mashed potatoes seemed standard. The Asian Hangover was similar, with the exception of rice instead of mashed potatoes. The decor was a lot of shiny, wooden accents. The waiter was attentive, but not particularly friendly.

Small venue so make a reservation if you can! It is worth the wait if you walk in and grab a seat. Great amazing food. You cannot leave this place without eating the Onion dip. Geash!! Can I get a double order please?! Great service, food selection & drink selection. Num num num!

Going to George & The Dragon is like meeting your celebrity crush. You've stalked him (on Yelp, on blogs, on Instagram #georgeandthedragon). You know his best attributes: the Asian Hangover, the Braised Beef, the battered green beans, the onion rings. Yelpers are salivating. You've hyped him up in your little heart. Then you meet him. And the rose-colored glasses comes off. Sure, you've waited an hour. But he looks good, and he starts off well enough (those onion rings are the best you've ever had). But then it's an hour in and you're realizing that he doesn't have as much substance as you thought. In fact, he's rather plain and you're wishing you didn't ruin all your dreams of him by pitting him against reality. But you did and it'll never be the same. Next (obvious) goal: find a new crush. Go forth.

This place is great. The owner is a super nice guy, the service was spot on, the beer tasted great and all the food was delicious. My new favorite pub. Everyone loved the fried pickles. I had the Asian Hangover and thought it was great. The sauce they braised the pork in was extremely flavorful. I tried some of my father in laws battered green beans and was quite impressed. They matched up well with the truffle aioli. My wife's cheese and ale soup had a really great beer flavor, and a smokey hint of bacon. The pretzel roll was a great match for the soup. My mother in law had the herb roasted chicken and that was flavorful and juicy. These guys know how to make good mashed too. Before the dessert course Fred, the owner, stopped by the table and gave my father in law a birthday card. The card also had a gift certificate inside. I've never seen that before. This is a great little restaurant and I'm looking forward to sampling some of their other dishes. Highly recommended.

G&tD has become our family's new favorite place to hang out for a Thursday or Friday night dinner - the only problem is it has become every other South Minneapolis family's favorite place also. The restaurant's surging popularity combined with its quaint square footage can make getting a table seem an unlikelihood. Not a bad drawback for a restaurant to have though! There have been several times we've driven over only to hear there is an hour or more wait. After getting a few mixed messages, I finally found out they DO take a limited amount of reservations and you can also call ahead -- ever since we figured this out we haven't had a problem getting in. The menu's hearty fair is accessible to all - they've got something for everyone: giant salad topped with steak for you carb counters, curry of the week for those wanting something with an ethnic flavor profile, classic burgers for the kids (and kids-at-heart), and fish n' chips for the traditional pub-goer. After several visits my favorite entrees are the Asian Hangover (can you possibly go wrong with pork combined with an egg overeasy???) and The Katherine (a gorgeous steak salad complete with a beautiful onion ring). Try as I might, I can never seem to resist the battered green beans. The sauce with the bangers and mash is crazy good. Beer list is on-point. Next time I plan to try the creme brûlée.

If you like crappy bartenders, terrible waitresses and food that tastes like baby diapers. You might want to go somewhere else. Ive been here twice (2 months in between) and Mr. Miller (the house bartender, he's exclusive I assume) remembered me. Now that's the closest Cheers Ive experienced. Foods delicious and service is impeccable. RECOMMEND calling in ahead, usually a line. Eating at the bar is fine too.

Let me start by saying that I would be willing to surrender my firstborn in exchange for an unlimited supply of battered green beans with truffle aioli. These crispy legumes are more than just an appetizer--they are a way of life. But wait--the goodness doesn't stop with beans! Everything about G & the D is great. I've been here many times, for casual lunches with my family, date nights with my boyfriend and everything in between. G & the D has fabulous ambiance, both cozy and modern. The food is consistently delicious, the service is excellent. No matter when you go or what you get, I promise you'll leave with a happy tummy and a smile on your face!

Someone told me about George and the Dragon. I went....and then I told all my friends they needed to go too! This neighborhood pub feels casual yet delivers service and food others need to take notes from. Fred, the owner, knows how to train his staff and offer an exciting menu that you'll be coming back for too. After my 3rd visit here I have to say I'm a fan. On each occasion the service was exceptional. When you're done with a dish or your water glass needs filling trust me....your waiter will be right there. The menu overs a nice variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees (not to menu their fabulous burgers). You can't leave this place without trying my two favorites so save room for an appetizer and dessert. The bacon and onion dip is a highlight and don't forget their homemade chocolate chip cookies. You get 4 delicious cookies for $3. It's the perfect ending to any meal at "George's".

Classy modern pub with an eye for detail. Loved the beautiful wood tables, beveled mirrors, woodwork, unique glassware, neat paintings, fabric choice for bench seating, and hip staff shirts. You can totally tell a ton of time went into thinking every tiny thing out. This felt true for the menu too. Lucky we had reservations Friday night. It was packed when we arrived, yet there was hardly a 2 min. wait for our table. Had beer, apps, mains and dessert. I loved the light, crispy breading on the huge, thick onion rings. Wow! Had the chocolate stout from England on the nitro tap. Creamy de-lish... The Mary salad (salmon on arugula with asparagus and creamy cucumbers) was good. Would try something different next time. The unexpected dessert fireworks. The chocolate bread pudding made my eyes roll back into my head with every bite. Husbo was concerned I was enjoying myself a little too much... This was not just some light cocoa bread. There was a layer of dark chocolate on the bottom of the dish. It was moist, rich, chewy and chocolaty- just like I like it. Wheeeeew! Needed a nap. ;)

G&D was good, but we drove 35 minutes and I'm not sure I'd make the special trip out here again. We had the dragon burger with bacon and substituted the fried green beans, and the lamb shank special. The burger was top notch and the fried green beans were the best I've had. I'm kicking myself for getting the special because honestly, it was not good. At all. The reduced sauce that the shank was resting in was really unpleasant. Flavored with too much of a spice that is only good in minimal amounts. Cinnamon? Not sure. We made sure to book it out of there before 9 so we could get a coconut malt next door for the long trek home.

Without a doubt one of my favorite restaurants! My boyfriend tried to get me to go for the longest time but we always ended up going somewhere else. Finally, about a year ago we went - and now we are very frequent customers. The braised beef rib and BBQ burger are our favorites. The first time we went, owner Fred ran outside to yell goodbye after we were already gone haha. He makes you happy to spend your money there. If you haven't gone yet, you definitely have to try it. Make a reservation if you can. We've waited almost 2 hours for a table before - but personally it's worth the wait.

This is my favorite place to eat in Minneapolis. Asian Hangover is the meal to try. I have never had anything like that before and you will not find it anywhere else. Staff is fantastic and friendly. They have a good beer selection, but space is limited. I highly suggest reservations.

Steak salad. Do it. Seriously though, I'd love to pick this place up and take it back home with me. For why? George & The Dragon boasts many positives: an attentive, professional staff, a friendly owner, killer fare (more on this later!), a laid-back cool vibe (think rustic, minimal, independent art on the walls, lots of light + large windows), and an overall neighborhood feel that seems hard to beat. Let's talk about food, shall we? Annie D and I split the banh mi sandwich and the steak salad. Both were very much to our liking, but the steak salad really stole the show. I'm going to have dreams of "The Katherine" - sliced sirloin, Amablu cheese, dried cranberries, field greens, an onion ring, and parmesan dressing. So incredible. The beer/wine/drink list looked solid, but since it 'twas mid-day and we had lots to do, we abstained from a more spirited adventure. I'd love to spend more time and money here, but alas, doesn't seem so convenient for me, now does it? George and/or the dragons: open a MKE location? Por favor?

Sheer amazeballs. This food is so exceedingly flavorful that I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it sooner. The battered green beans are fantastic and the Asian Hangover is incredible. Love the ambiance here as well. It's a cool English pub/Asian fusion with alternative rock and electro sounds. There is a hearty beer and wine selection too.

Birthday celebration tonight at george in the dragon was a hit! Great friendly service, consistantly good food, and fun neighborhood pub atmosphere. Excellent selection of beer and wine. You can tell the owner/chef really cares about his team and everyone that comes in to enjoy his creations. I highly, highly recommend coming here!!! It will be your new favorite spot!!

George and the Dragon is a solid choice in South Minneapolis. I have been twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. For dinner, my group started with the battered green beans. I had heard these were amazing, but I was underwhelmed. Too much batter on each bean for my taste. I had the George burger for dinner. I usually don't order burgers, but this one really caught my eye with the mustard cream and frizzled leeks. The burger was cooked to perfection, and I was not disappointed with my choice. Others in my group ordered a few of the salads for dinner, and they looked delicious. It was a Tuesday night, so I wasn't interested in getting a beer or glass of wine, but I did try the homemade ginger ale. It had little chunks of ginger in it, and I would highly recommend. For brunch, my party started with the Cinnamon Sugar doughnuts. They came out warm, and were perfect to split between 4 people. I ordered the daily scramble for my entree - caramelized onions, gruyere, and bacon with American potatoes and toast. The eggs were done perfectly, where they are creamy and melt in your mouth. The potatoes were crunchy and seasoned to my liking. All of the other brunch entrees looked appetizing as well. Both of the times I have been here, service has been fine, although not exceptional. The exceptional thing about George and the Dragon, in my opinion, is the low price point for the quality of food you are receiving.

I really like this place it was suggested to me by a co-worker. The first time I had the Asian Hangover was very good it was so tender but I wished there was more gravy and the green beans were just a little more soft for my liking. My bf had the steak with Bearnaise sauce awesome the Bearnaise sauce yummy. The second we had curry meatball special very good I know we had something else but I quite can't remember but I remember we left there happy. I also remember when we had got there they said that it would be a long wait but then they got us seated shortly after that. Don't let the name fool sounds like an Asian spot but it is kinda like Irish pub with comfort food but with a twist.

Great local neighborhood restaurant! It's smaller but cozy and very warmly decorated. We had a party of 7 and had to wait awhile as the place is smaller and more for parties of 4. We were able to wait around the bar with a drink and once seated we were greeted promptly by Tom our server. We tried the onion rings, lumpia, fried pickles and pretzel bread for apps. The fried pickles were amazingly thin and delicious. The onion rings were some of the best I've had and the batter was nice and light and crispy. We all tried a different dish including the Asian hangover and braised short rib and everyone loved their food. The food and service at this place was top notch and we have all agreed we will definitely be back!

It's such a pain to get a table here. Yes, it's tasty but the wait is too much. Plus, they'll tell you it's a 30 min wait, but it's always way longer. Do yourself a favor and go to Cafe Maude or Lyn65.

I knew we were going to have a great dinner when our reserved table was setup for our group of 5 immediately. Its rare these days when you don't have to wait around for your table to be setup even with reservations, its my girlfriend's biggest pet peve. Restaurant is small but we didn't feel crowded. A table of five has to be modified a bit since most of the tables are setup for 4 or less. Great eclectic artwork on the walls of odd creatures and animals, such as a smoking owl which was my favorite. They do a great job on the little things that make such a huge difference. Quality drinking glasses, homemade ginger ale and lemonade (with free refills), terry cloth towels in the bathroom, bookshelf for kids and so much more. Food was outstanding, the George burger was a 9 out of 10, Dragon burger was a perfect 10, Katerine salad was a 9 and the bacon and onion dip was a 10 as well. I was not disappointed in any of the food what so ever. Overall, I can see why this place was voted best new restaurant by City Pages 2013, its hard to find anything to complain about. My only issue was we were served our app at the table before they took our regular order and we were left holding our menus. And the water isn't very cold, served without ice. You must make a reservation here any day of the week.

George & the Dragon, you have really won my heart. You are the perfect neighborhood pub that I want to frequent often. You are approachable, and casual, with mighty fine menu options. And it doesn't hurt that your beer list is pretty decent too. So far I have tried your Elizabeth & Victoria salads-- with those incredible toasted breadcrumbs on top, I want to eat those everyday. Last but not least. your George Burger IS MY FAVORITE THING YET. My boyfriend kept eying my burger, wanting to steal it. It was that good, people. Cheddar, mustard, & leeks are truly a winning option on George's burger. Let's also talk about your record player that the servers gladly play with a smile. I can't wait to return for some wonderful food, service, & beer. I love this English pub, right here in good ole Minneapolis.

My wife and I have been waiting and waiting to try this place. We only live a short distance from here and it's been "on the radar" for quite some time now. We have driven by many weekend nights hoping that it wouldn't be busy, but peering in the windows and/or seeing a large group of people standing outside the door, we figured it was too busy and decided to dine elsewhere. Last night, we went by and much to our delight it didn't look terribly busy. Friends recommended it so we always take their advice. George & The Dragon (813 W 50th St, Southwest Minneapolis) was our dining spot for the evening. We're glad we went here. Décor is pretty much contemporary and is what one would expect to find in an upscale pub setting in Minneapolis. We went in and were seated within 10 minutes. We were a little surprised to get in so fast because our hostess asked us if we had reservations and gave us a strange look when we told her we didn't. I thought maybe it would be one of those "well, okay, but you'll have to wait two hours for a table" moments, but we were happily seated pretty quickly. If you want to give it a go without reservations, definitely go early on a weeknight. The craft beer menu is really great. Lots of locals and imports on tap to select from. It's always nice to see local pubs stocking their bars with local beers. The rest of the menu was small. We didn't have a million choices, but in a way, that was okay with me. That pretty much ensures that you're going to have better-quality food since they pretty much know what they are going to be making ahead of time. No need for a pub to have a 30-item entrée menu when they are serving "pub style" foods. I recommend the homemade fried pickles that come with chipotle mayonnaise. A steal at $6. The cheddar and ale soup also looked really tasty but the pickles were a fun appetizer and really quite good. Krystyn ordered the Dragon Burger (as it was recommended by our server) and I being the purist that I am, went with the classic - fish and chips. The fish and chips were excellent. They weren't too oily and whatever type if fish they used (cod or tilapia, hard to tell) wasn't overly fishy. Krystyn's only complaint was that her burger was a little "under" how she likes it, but she didn't send it back and at the whole thing. It must have been just under or else she would have sent it back (she's done this more times than I care to share). The true hero here is the beers. Loads of craft beers (both local and imported) either on tap or by the bottle/can. I had the Well's Banana Bread. Fascinating brew to say the least. Unfortunately, they do not have a full bar - it is beer and wine only. I recommend George & The Dragon. It's a hip place with pleasant servers with a very laid back feel. I think the portions are a tad on the small side and the prices are a little steep for the neighborhood and those are the only reasons I give it four stars rather than five. Nice beer selection and small menu, but everything is high quality. My only other recommendation - get a reservation or else you may not get a place to sit, even on a weeknight. We were lucky as it was jam packed by the time we left.

I don't often take the time to write a review/comment...but after visiting George and the Dragon, having a wonderful night with family and friends...I am compelled to say.....this is a MUST!!! From the helpful and caring wait staff, to the very tasty and eclectic menu.....what made it over the top was the welcoming host and owner Fred. This is now one of my go to places and will high recommend to all the foodies I know.

I don't really get the big deal about this place except for the fact it is the only bar around for miles. I've eaten here three times and every time it just seems to be getting worse. The surprise curry was OK the first time I ordered it. Then, I got the fish and chips. Meh! The fish was off or something. There is a cute bartender with James Dean hair who wears a shirt that says "Mr. Miller" who can instruct you on which drink to get after you wait ages and ages at the bar for a table. (Is his name REALLY Mr. Miller by the way? I have my doubts...) I don't know about you, but I don't really want to wait 40+ minutes at the bar for mediocre food while talking to Mr. Miller at the bar even if the guy is cute. I think I would prefer to drive a couple of miles to Downtown Minneapolis and eat at Brits or something.

Great place with a very knowledgeable and personable bar keeper. Not at all what I expected from an English Pub. So much more and worth the experience. But needs more bar stools.

Everything about this restaurant was fabulous. The atmosphere, the service, the beer selection and OH BOY the food. Four of us went and we ordered from different sections of the menu. Everyone of us thought the food was exceptional and would be paying much more for food of this quality elsewhere. George and the Dragon is on our top 5 best places to eat in the Twin Cities.

Whenever in doubt of where to eat, this place has become the go-to. The small but well thought out beer list is my favorite in the cities, even over the huge 30+ tap lists of many restaurants. Bacon onion dip is what dreams are made of, so much that we've found ourselves ordering it once, only to devour it and order another. The burgers are all solid, fries thick cut, nice and salty. Daily curry rotation, with the creamy cucumbers is a favorite, I try to stray to other items, but consistency night in and out makes it difficult. The fact you can call ahead to put your name on the list is a big deal, but if you forget, it's worth the wait.

I came here for lunch on a very cold Friday with my husband. I ordered the fish and chips and he had some goat cheese grilled cheese sandwich. The tartar sauce for the fish and chips was home made and awesome. The batter for the fish is a better batter which was awesome. The fish itself was excellent. The fries were home made / cut in restaurant or at a minimum tasted like they were. Instead of fries my husband had the fried green beans, they were also delicious. Everything we had was wonderful. The portions were large and i ended bringing half my food home. They re packed extra sauce for our leftovers. The service was also great. I will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu.

My experience at G&TD reminds me of the Metric lyric, "They were right when they said we should never meet our heroes". Only three stars for this south Minneapolis Yelp darling? Believe me, I'm as surprised as you are, but here I am giving my honest take. The boy and I stopped in on a Friday night and despite there being a 1.5 hour wait for a table, we were able to quickly grab a spot at the bar, where they serve their full menu. We ordered the battered green beans, cheddar and ale soup, and pretzel bread for starters. Food came out very quickly - no complaints there. As much as I love to say that I don't like fried things, the green beans were amazing. Tempura-fried exterior, bright green beans that held their snap...I couldn't stop eating them. I just wish that the mayo dip they're served with had a little extra flavor beyond plain mayo, and that it wouldn't have been served just-out-of-the-fridge cold. Pro tip: if you're thinking about ordering the cheddar and ale soup and pretzel bread, be warned that the soup comes with an entire portion of bread as well. So there we were with two loaves of the famed pretzel bread, but I was really underwhelmed. It seemed like we had received the bottom of the barrel bread...kind of weirdly wrinkly on top, just a touch stale, and served with cold butter on the side. Big sad face. I tried the soup and it was alright...I'm not much of a cheese soup kind of gal, so I'm not claiming to be the expert, but it was a bit oily for my taste. I ordered the Mary salad and the boy ordered the Asian Hangover for entrees. This is so weird, but I think G&TD has convinced me to start adding toasted bread crumbs to all of my salads. It's such an amazing textural experience, and might even contend with my significant appreciation for a good crouton. At $10, I thought the salad was very reasonably priced for what you receive - salmon, asparagus, and creamy cucumbers over ginger dressing-laced arugula. The salmon was a bit dry and flavorless...not the best fillet I've ever had, but maybe not the worst. I stole a few bites of the Asian Hangover, and I'm not sure if I built it up too much in my head, but I was expecting to be wowed, as in "I just ate at Brasa for the first time and I've had a meat epiphany" impressed. And I just wasn't. The Compart pork was tasty and the dish was presented beautifully, but the combination of fried egg, meat, and rice just didn't bring anything special to the table. I wish I could say that I want to come back and give G&TD another go, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm bummed that it didn't live up to the hype, but there are too many fantastic restaurants in this city. Like Jay-Z always says, "on to the next one".

Came here to catch the end of a March Madness game after eating dinner elsewhere on a week night. Stood by the bar and was really impressed with the friendly service from the bartender and other staff. All customers seemed happy and the beer selection was great. Seemed like a really nice chill hangout spot and we will definitely be back.

Some co-workers from the London office were in town, and I thought it would be funny to bring them to an English style pub. They agreed! The location is fantastic, not too far from the highway but far enough to enjoy the tangles of Tangle Town. The food is yummy and pubby, but don't ignore the greens. The Mary salad was fantastic. Highly recommend it and all things with creamy cucumber. The Braised Beef Rib is delicious, and I was told the Scottish Salmon and Aged Sirloin are very good as well. Both Brits were very happy with the food and beer. Take everyone's advice: make a reservation, even on a week day.

Grr. I don't know if my expectations were too high or maybe I just don't get pub food? But I wasn't blown away by George's food at all. Came here on a Friday night with my parents at around 7:45, and was surprised when we were told it would be about a 30 minute wait, however, the hostess was very kind and assured us it would be quick since quite a few tables were finishing up. We were finally seated at about 8:15 and our server seemed a little out of it and slow, but I wasn't too bothered since I was excited for what I was anticipating to be a great meal. I had my heart set on the Hangover after reading several reviews about how good the dish was. My dad got Today's Curry, which ended up being a vegetarian dish with chickpeas, and my mom settled for their special of the day: fish tacos (I was very disappointed she didn't get the Braised Beef Rib since I was hoping to snag a bite of hers!). The Hangover was presented just like in the many Yelp pictures: a heaping pile of shredded pork over a small bed of rice with a gleaming poached egg on top and a few green beans. The egg was beautifully cooked and the rice was the perfect vehicle to soak up the runny yolk and the pork's juices. The pork was so tender and the strong star anise spice was very present (if not a little overpowering). Although the meat was extremely tasty though, the overall flavor of the dish was rather flat noted. The green beans were a huge disappointment-bland and undercooked-not a trace of garlic. I took a bite of my mom's fish tacos which were fine-nothing special but not bad either. I also sampled my dad's curry and was a bit turned off to find that it tasted identical to Chipotle's "Hot Sauce". They could've been long lost brothers for all I knew. However, the dessert was to die for. We got the chocolate bread pudding. I was originally planning on taking only one bite since there were several tubs of ice cream waiting for me back at home, however, after one spoon of the warm chocolatey pudding accompanied by the rich vanilla ice cream served on top, my spoon kept diving in for more. Overall, if Yelp gave the option for half stars, George would get 3 1/2. The food fell below my expectations-a little one noted-however, the dessert was great and I feel that the restaurant has so much more potential than showcased that night, and I'm also looking forward to returning to try their other much-praised dishes.

The food was absolutely delicious! From the wide variety of local beers on tap to the appetizers, entrees and desserts! Our waitress was super attentive to our big party of 7. We started with the fried pickles, fried greens beans and garlic and bacon dip. The dip was my favorite and one you should try. I read several reviews that said the Asian Hangover dish was their hero. I was hesitant about the egg on top but it was delicious. The beef was super tender and had great flavor. The egg added a separate element of flavor to this dish that brought everything together. A couple people at our table ordered the fish and chips. The homemade tartar sauce was amazing!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience when I visited George & the Dragon recently. We decided at the last minute (on a Friday night) to stop in. I called at 5:30 and there was a 2 hour wait, but they let me put my name on the call ahead list. I ended up getting in at 7:30 because of this awesome service! When we got there we were greeted by whom I assume is the manager and he was very pleasant. In fact, I saw many guests interact with him, which made me realize their were many local regulars. As far as the food, our meals were excellent. The beer selection was also great and there was a good selection of local craft brews. Overall, it was an unbeatable experience. We will definitely be back again and again. It is one of our new favorites!

George get ready, I'm about to be that friend that hangs around just a little bit too much. When you walk in here you can just feel the neighborly warmth, unless you are right by the door where you are technically not warm, but just happy to have snagged a table. So far my visits have been phenomenal for both food and service. Probably some of the best service I've had in the Twin Cities actually. This really comes in handy once you look at their menu and fall in love with several options, I've always been given great advice on what to order. For starters I've tried the pretzel bread, the battered green beans and the lumpia. The lumpia is by far my favorite. They are like little Philipino taquitos, light and crispy, which are served with a sweet and sour style sauce. Absolutely delish. The pretzel bread was also very tasty, but so filling. The tempura battered green beans I actually didn't care for, but if that's your choice id suggest you upgrade your side for your entree for the beans and get the lumpia for an app instead. I most recently tried the Banh Mi sandwich which was very brightly flavored. I loved the pickled veggies paired with the tender pork and crusty bread. My boyfriend always gets the curry special and we've enjoyed some mighty tasty Indian and Thai curry dishes. They can really add some heat to these too, which we've gotten a little carried away with. I've also had the braised beef which I can picture my Dad would adore, a nice meat and potatoes staple. I couldn't help but eye the curry across the table though. Pair all this with a double chocolate tall stout and you have yourself one very happy evening.

My mom came into town from Utah and I took her here, a first time dining for both of us at G & D. She got the Fish and Chips and loved it (she said it was one of the best Fish and Chips she's ever had, and she gets them everywhere she travels pretty much), and I got the Uncle Bryan Burger and it was actually the best burger I've ever had. I'm dying to go back and try it again. It just so happened to be the birthday of the guy my burger was named after so they gave me the burger for free. I was really happy about that :) Oh, and the homemade lemonade was steller. The homemade ginger ale was good but after a while, I realized the ginger was a little too strong for my taste. Fantastic fries too. Great service. I told my husband we have to come back soon.

Today I went here for a late lunch, which was awesome, because it wasn't busy at all! Having seen a picture of the BBQ burger, I knew I wanted to try it, so I got that with the side of battered green beans. Apart from my medium-rare burger being a tad too salty, it was FANTASTIC! And the green beans were perfectly fried to still be wonderfully crisp. My server was so nice (I didn't catch his name, unfortunately). Of course, I had to try their dessert. I ordered the chocolate bread pudding. The vanilla ice cream complemented the dark chocolate really well. I will definitely be back!

This is one of my favorite places to go in Minneapolis. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Everything I've eaten there is fantastic. Once I tried the Asian Hangover, though, it is hard to order anything else!

We have known Fred and Stacy for many years, having met them when dining at restaurants they worked for in the past. It only seemed natural for the two of them to then open a restaurant of their own. George & The Dragon doesn't just have fantastic food but excellent top quality service. Fred & Stacy always treat their customers well and so does their staff. You can tell the quality of their management by how happy and friendly their employees are. Their food is a mix of homestyle cooked with high class fancy. We'll return again and again.

First visit and definitely not our last. Tuesday evening at 8pm and we needed to wait for a table. Good sign. Very good craft beer list and inventive menu options. The four of us had fish and chips, burger with bacon and cheese, vegetarian curry, and banh mi sandwich. All excellent. Also excellent was the service. Attentive but not overbearing. Happy to ask the kitchen about ingredients rather than pretending they knew the answer when they didn't. Very impressed.

This place is amazing! Delicious food and beer. Great atmosphere. It's a lovely little place that I will recommend to everyone. The fish and chips were the tastiest I've ever had. And the IPA colorado beer was perfectly balanced with hops.

I really like George and the Dragon. The atmosphere is great; it's extremely clean and modern for a pub and the service has been great both times I've been here. My favorite thing here is the onion rings! My husband and I both think these are possibly the best onion rings we've ever had! Unlike many other restaurants, they taste so fresh it's like the cook is picking the onions fresh from the garden for our order. I would definitely head to George and the Dragon again for an afternoon beer and onion ring order, and the cheeseburgers are good too!

Wow. This is a great pub. The Husband and I went for a date night and left impressed. It was very busy when we got there, about a 2 hour wait. We walked around the neighborhood for a bit, then found 2 seats at the bar to have a drink while waiting. Great local beer selection. I had the rotating tap (an oatmeal porter... to die for). The bartender (Mr. Miller) is great. His ability to describe food and drink blows me away. He could make dog food sound appetizing. We decided to have an appetizer while waiting. We got the lumpia, which was so good. I haven't had any since we moved back here. Then, deciding to be crazy, we got the bacon dip. Holy effing balls, it was hot, gooey bacon love on toast. From here, we just decided to eat at the bar. The Husband got the Dragon Burger, which was really nice. The pickled peppers were a very nice touch. The fries are more like massive steak fries. I had the Asian Hangover. Mr. Miller paired a beer with it for me. It was pure love. Braised Asian pork (lots of star anise) over jasmine rice, buttery green beans, topped with a fried egg. I highly recommend it. We didn't do dessert, but they did sound good. Over all, it was a great meal and I can't wait to go back.

I was pretty stoked about coming to this place after reading the reviews on Yelp. My boyfriend and I were caught a little off guard by the neighborhood it was in. We've never been to SW Minneapolis before, I was under the impression it'd be similar in setting to like uptown/downtown places. But it was cute. I loved loved the interior of the place. Very clean. We ordered the onions rings with the chipotle mayo. after reading the reviews I had high hopes for the mayo but I thought it was about average. Still good though. I ordered the Asian Hangover per reviews on yelp, plus I'm just a fan of five spice in general. The portion was perfect and the meat was nice and tender. I'm used to my 5 spice pork being a little bit sweeter and I prefer it that way and theirs wasn't. So it was interesting. The beans and the egg were good. My boyfriend had their curry of the day. I've never had a dry rub curry before but that's what it was. A spicy dry rub shrimp curry with a cucumber salad thing or something. My boyfriend really enjoyed it. Overall we had a good experience there. The food was good, but nothing super wow. Still definitely would come back again.

Nice small local place. Nice touch to have the owner as the greeter. Food was good. Had the uncle Bryan burger. Prefer medium rare but was close to medium. Needed a little more flavor. Will try the Banh Mi (should have went with my gut feel) next time. Looking forward to it...

I've been to this restaurant numerous times for both lunch and dinner and it does not disappoint! The tables are spacious and well spaced for the size of the room. You don't feel crammed in at all. The servers are consistently attentive and able to answer questions and make suggestions on food and drinks. The menu options are clearly described and have cute names. I have always been more than satisfied with the food and have eaten salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak times as you have to park on the street. I am looking forward to trying their brunch menu next time.

Fred N (owner) wrote me a personalized message on Yelp, following up with my less than stellar review and apologized. I recognize that restaurants have rough days...based on the other reviews, my experience seemed to have been an exception. I encourage you to give this place a try, not only because I am clearly an outlier here, but also because a reach out from the owner on Yelp is always a good thing. It means that he values their product and want to ensure that he earns the positive reputation that he currently has.

We found George and the Dragon online while driving to Minneapolis, reviews were favorable and the menu was intriguing. The suggestion of making a reservation should be followed! We did not make a reservation and waited about 35 minutes (on a Friday night, not bad). We passed the time easily with the cool shops in the area. Also be warned that the neighborhood is all on street parking. With that said... service was top notch. Menu was incredibly diverse. We settled on the lumpia for an appetizer, my son ordered the curry and I went for the fish and chips. We were not disappointed! The lumpia and curry were filled with flavor, while the fish and chips was not overly greasy. The tartar sauce appeared to be made in house and was very flavorful. For dessert we each order a strawberry sundae. Again, not disappointed. Loved that the topping was a fresh puree and not soupy strawberries. Outside of the the food, the atmosphere is cool and relaxing. Not too loud, so we could hold conversation without straining. Highly recommend!
