I've been to quite a few froyo places, and I have to say that Freestyle does a decent job of it. It's obvious they aren't a "chain frozen yogurt" restaurant, and that made me much happier to support them. They even have their own cups and napkins that let you know that it's a small business, non-chain frozen yogurt place. There was a lot of dedication put into the decor of this place. With gigantic, tall vaulted ceilings, they even painted the ceilings pink. It's intense. There's lots of seating available including booth room, plastic chairs, and some huge, 6+ person tables fashioned out of surfboards. They definitely have a neat assortment of decor incuding information about frozen yogurt. They offer standard "pay by the ounce" cups as well as cones to pay by the ounce as well. Flavors include things like chocolate, vanilla, cookies & cream, and more. Each flavor is labeled with "non-fat" or "low-fat". It also is labeled with things like "M" or "GF". Which, uh, I haven't been able to find the actual "guide" to what those things mean. I imagine Gluten-Free would have been GL, but there were a lot with random letters labeled. Would love to see them add a guide to figuring out what those meant. Toppings were yummy. They even had two separate types of sprinkles. There was a huge selection of toppings, and out of all of the ones we tried, they all were fresh and tasty. However, when I went to go pour a bit of chocolate onto my frozen yogurt, none would come out. In fact, it felt like it all had dried up in the bottle since it wasn't closed. The employee just watched me, and I finally gave up and just put my frozen yogurt onto the scale for weighing. They have a small wheel you can spin that offers price modifications to your frozen yogurt. You don't have to spin it, but if you do, you can win free yogurt. I wasn't paying too much attention to the wheel, but my partner loved spinning it. Employee wasn't rude at all during the check-out process, but he definitely seemed bored. Normally I'm used to happy or peppy service at frozen yogurt places, but this guy just seemed like he wanted to go back into the back room where he had been. Maybe he's just having a bad day. Who knows? As a tip: there's extra parking for the entire area behind their building. It's a lot better than trying for street parking. There's also a Walgreens and Starbucks nearby which we also visited. Final thoughts: Great flavors and great decor. I wish the employees were a bit more friendly and that they offered some sort of chocolate syrups (preferably sugar-free). But it's definitely a neat place, and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.

"Freestyle -- It's a lifestyle, yo." lol! Every time I think of this soft-serve yogurt and hot dog place, I can't stop smiling. My first thought about the name was "oh, that makes sense, since you get to select your own frozen yogurt and toppings." But everything about this place is a "freestyle." I. DÉCOR: While the seats are the most comfortable, dude, there are surfboards for tables! Seriously! Not to mention, there's one gigantic one looming above the middle of Freestyle. Several disco balls also hang above, so it's perfect for random dance parties, while you hold your sweet treat. II. FOOD: Pretty awesome froyo! I went with one of their vanillas and salted caramel (of course), and sprinkled some crushed Kitkats on top. Ballin'? I think so! Regarding the actual frozen yogurts, I prefer Freestyle's over Yogurt Lab's, since it tastes a bit like ice cream. (That's a good thing.) There's also hot dogs -- and the back door of the store says "Doghaus" -- but I didn't try one. III. SERVICE: The friendly staff member working the front encouraged us to spin their cool wheel. Essentially, it's fun and customers have the chance to possibly win a few cents off of the 50 cents per/ ounce standard. It's also possible that you'll have to pay more, too. I spun and won three cents off and used the extra money saved to buy me a Cadillac. Or not. IV. OVERALL: I've found my froyo place, and I imagine visiting there more often during the summer months.

So I've never done the fro-yo thing, which I know is super weird since they have been popping up all over for the past year or so. (What can I say, I'm a brewery person, that's my jam!). I also don't eat sweets very much and I'm terrified of scales in real life so why would I want to pay for the weight of my real food?? Anyways, my friend took me here because I wasn't able to speak and what better way to cure a soar throat than eatin' creamy cold stuff?! One of her clients had told her that most frozen yogurt places make and package their yogurt in a way that all the good happy microbes and probiotic properties that yogurt itself has, are lost. That's not the way Freestyle rolls, they make sure that all that stuff that makes yogurt great stays put. So being a nutrition major, I'm already sold. Most of the flavors were sporting a low or no fat, which is always good for the waistline! They also have these strange paper divider things if you want to get different flavors without them touching. I got the divider thing and I got 4 different flavors, which were all fantastic! I had the Ghirardilli Chocolate, Cookies 'n' Cream, St. Paul Strawberry, and Salted Carmel Pretzel (SCP). Get the SCP! Seriously, it was like the best thing ever. Ok, so the pricing is $0.45/ounce or something, but you can spin a wheel to change that price, a wheel that is not just for children! But beware, even though there is one free space, there are many more spaces that make it more expensive. Spin at your own risk!

This place helps to fill the surprisingly large fro-yo void in SW MPLS. Located next to Kowalski's, Mac's Fish and Chips, South Lyndale Liquors, and Prima, there are a plethora of reasons to head over to Freestyle while out and about! They are set up like many other fro-yo places around the metro, with many yogurt flavors to choose from, a lot of toppings to pile on, and a pay-by-weight system. One difference is that they let you spin a wheel to determine your per ounce pricing! They also have a loyalty program based on your phone number, every 8th visit get a free yogurt order. I would give them 5 stars, but the lack of fresh fruit as a topping takes them down. Instead, they offer fruit flavored boba...OK, but no where near the real thing.

Some of Freestyle's frozen Yogurt tastes like ice cream! Eee! I'm really not a fan of frozen yogurt bars because the frozen yogurt tents to taste bland, overly tart, overly sweet, or incredibly artificial, in any combination. Because the yogurt tastes terrible to okay, I end up getting a lot of toppings, and at a certain point, wouldn't it be easier to go buy some candy? Anyway, enough about my frozen-yogurt-always-disappoints rant, Freestyle's yogurt is yum, and they have all the same toppings as Menchie's, Yogurt Lab, and Red Cherry.

On their website, the Saturday and Sunday hours are clearly listed till 10pm. Last Sunday we got folks in several cars to head down there, arrived at 9:10 to find it locked up tight, chairs off the floors, no one around. How hard is it to make sure you either stay open the hours you are supposed to, or make sure your website is correct? both Winter and Summer hours had Sunday till 10pm but here we were at 9:10 locked out. Maybe the addition of hot dogs has them taking focus off the other stuff.

It's frozen yogurt. I guess I really don't know how to "rate" or "review" frozen yogurt. Some of you people will like this place, some of you won't. If you don't like frozen yogurt, don't go here. If you do, come on in! The price and flavors are great. On a side note, weren't these frozen yogurt places huge in the 80's and then they went away in the 90-00's? This is an actual question...

I believe this opened w/in the past couple of months. Went here for the first time last weekend. It's self-serve w/ over 20 flavors of frozen yogurt and over 50 toppings. Grab a rather generously sized personal bucket, fill it up and pay by the ounce. At check-out, you are given the option of paying the regular rate or "spinning the wheel", which depending on where it lands, has you pay a couple cents less per ounce, a couple cents more per ounce or "free." If you end up paying more, they give you a discount coupon for the next time, so nobody loses. Speaking of losing---I don't think I'll be losing weight anytime soon. As an indication of how habit forming this place can be, we've been there 3 times in the last 6 days. Despite intentions to "go small", each time I've staggered back to the table with a nearly filled yogurt/topping pail. Yeah, I could probably stop midway through my self-created frozen confection and put the remainder in the freezer at home to enjoy another day, but it seems like a lot of work to carry it back to the car, plus no risk of it dripping on the car seats if it's already in my stomach. I mayl have to perform some sort of penance tomorrow. Inside, it's bright fluorescent lights and a surf shop motif, complete with surfboard tables. The first time we went was a Saturday night and it was packed w/ throngs of 8-14 year olds and parents. Even though it as busy, the owner stopped by and talked for a few minutes--great guy. We'll be back all too soon....

To level set expectations, this review is coming from a fro-yo fanatic! So much so that I talked all my friends into trying each fro-yo place in the Twin Cities last summer. All that to say, Freestyle blows them all out of the park! Starting with the fro-yo. My mouth sang songs of delight when I had the first taste. Super creamy and flavorful. Unique flavors like chocolate caramel turtle and salted caramel pretzel surprised and delighted me. Ah! I can still taste the deliciousness on my tongue. The toppings bar stacks up to the others. Nothing missing but nothing out of the ordinary either. For all the risk takers out there, their payment method is for you. You can choose to spin the wheel for the chance to get a cheaper price or even for FREE!!! But if you like to keep your cards close to you, you can secure the base price of $0.45/oz. Huge space so perfect for larger groups. Beach funk decor with surfboards for tables and disco lights are the cherry of top of this fro-yo joint! Only down faults ... 1 sample cup (mine was soggy after putting it through 5 rounds of sampling!) and that it is so far from my house (or maybe that's a good thing!)

This place is awesome! My friend and I have gone a few times and staff is friendly and helpful. They have great flavors! They are better than yogurt lab for sure! They have more space to sit and the yogurt dispensers have lots of space around them so you can move as others are getting their yogurt fix. The one thing that made me give 4 stars instead of 5 is that their fruit supply can sometimes be lacking. Fresh fruit on yogurt is my favorite and when I arrive and only 4 blackberries are left in the container I am a little disappointed. Maybe I just need to arrive earlier!

Are these things all the same? Yes, yes they are. Which is why the devil is in the details, and this is probably my favorite local small chain yogurt dealer. Few things here: 1. DEEEP sneeze guard on the fruits and mochi. 2. Berries still fresh before close!!! 2. Hoppers dispense shots of dry stuff rather than just opening up all over your food. 2. That DEEP sneeze guard is right up at the registers so if anyone does anything gross it's being watched - more so than other stores who just stuff that stuff in the middle or even back (ugh) of the store I eat in a lot of divey places, but when you imply clean, as all these yogurt places do - you gotta be clean. Nicely done.. I saved 2 cents at the register, the kids working were super nice.

This place does not disappoint. It's fun and has a good flow to it's layout, unlike some other frozen yogurt places that have the same self-dispense concept. The staff is always friendly and they have a spin game so you can spin to win your yogurt for free. It's totally worth it since if you spin to pay more they'll give you a coupon for $ off of your next purchase anyway. The quality of the yogurt is excellent -- thick and creamy with a good flavor, no matter the flavor you choose -- not watery, sandy or plain out weird tasting like other places that I've tried. They have good toppings too -- fresh fruit and nuts if you want to stay more on the healthy side of things and candy galore if you want to indulge.

This shop came out of nowhere. Stopped in for a taste. Wow. What a great concept. The main and only course was over the top. We'll be back. Hopefully sidewalk seating will be available (with awning).

LOVE this place. Crazy amount of flavor options with fresh toppings!! Inside is very modern and sleek however there are always teenage kids flooding the place. The yogurt makes up for it :) always a household favorite.
