Burger and fries. American staple. That's why the slice of processed American cheese doesn't ruin this burger. Go off times by just an hour and you have the place to yourself. Burger Moe's in St. Paul still has this place beat but the home made patty too big for the bun is amazing. You won't leave hungry.

Hamburgers are definitely not my thing. But this place is fantastic. The jalapeños are fresh and spicy. The cheese is melted perfectly. The bacon is crisp. The whole thing unwraps like a picture perfect bacon cheeseburger. Everything is portioned so generously, especially the fries. Holy generous loads of fries. Even the staff was happily welcoming. The gentleman at the register was quick but friendly. Obviously a great place to eat.

The burgers here are too greasy/bland and the fries are over seasoned with Cajun salt. I got the bunless burger with grilled mushrooms/onions and when I finished, felt like I had just eaten a stick of butter. I do appreciate that they offer low carb alternatives and are not annoyed when you ask for a bunless burger.

Decent food at a very adorable price. Your options are essentially burgers and fries, but you do get a breadth of choices with what you get in your burger. Regarding the fries, go Cajun if you have much of a tolerance for spice. Those fries are amazing! A large fry can easily feed three people alongside burgers. Not to forget, free unlimited shelled peanuts for all customers.

Service is fast. Ordered cheeseburger and fries. It was huge. I was only able to finish 2\3. I love to have grilled mushroom and onion in my burger. Tastes good.

Their burgers and fries never disappoint. My only qualm about this location is that they don't clean their tables enough.

I went to Five Guys Burgers & Fries the other day because I was craving a burger & fries and needed a quick meal before a study session! I also wanted to check out what all the hype was about! I ordered a little bacon cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms & onions & a regular sized side of fries - BUYER BEWARE the only different between the little and the regular burger; is that the little burger comes with one patty, while the regular sized bun comes with two! The regular sized fry portion was huge! It took about 9 to10 minutes to get my food after I ordered it. The bacon cheese burger filled my greasy burger craving - the burger was good but nothing special. However the fries weren't that great, they need more seasoning/ salt or something. The fries just really didn't do the trick for me. They seemed to be a little dry. To sum everything up, the food was just fine, but the next time I get another greasy burger craving I'll go a block away to Annie's Parlour or Smashburger! I see Five Guys as Smashburger's less ambitious lazy brother that stay's home all day and plays video games.

Five guys is my #1 restaurant for burgers. The proportions are gigantic so I usually only get a cheeseburger. The fries are very good too, but nearly impossible to finish. Having the possibility to put whatever ingredients I want in it makes the burger just perfect. It is heavy so I suggest you to go there only if you are seriously hungry. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, it is just awesome!

This place is fantastic. The burgers are juicy and delicious and the cajun fries are impossible to stop eating (& the small size is HUGE). Everything is made to order and you can get as many toppings as you want for free! (even mushrooms, which makes me really happy) The service is also excellent- everyone seems to love their job. Despite all this greatness, I was still considering only doling out 4 stars. Then I remembered "that one night" in Dinkytown. The line as Mesa was obscenely long, as usual, and I had a severe case of the drunk munchies. Then I learned that Five Guys is open til 3 Thurs-Sat. Best surprise ever! & it totally warrants an extra star.

Believe the Hype. However atrocious it may look. I wasn't exposed to a load of hype about this place. I just read an article about Obama eating at one out east and, forgot about Five Guys for a year. Then a friend of mine brought me here, I had a burger and loved it. Especially the fact that besides Cheese and Bacon all the fixings are free. I may have made a mistake in going there by myself twice in one week. After those two visits I am known when I walk in the door. It's nice to be known so I can see myself going here far too often. I should move away. Five Guys will be the death of me. The truly scrumptious, heavenly, satisfying, gastro-mortis last minutes of my life will be spent with Five Guys Fries in my hands. Can't wait!

I've been to both the locations in Edina and now Dinkytown, both are the same and by that I mean the burgers are meh. It's nice that you can load up on toppings but somehow that ends up only adding more grease and making it more of a challenge to eat. And don't be surprised if you feel like you are having a heart attack afterwards, that's normal. The only thing I would go back there for are the Cajun Fries. The grease from the fries makes the bag a slopping slime bally mess within minutes but if you can get past that factor you'll find that the spices gives the fries a good kick. And the $3 regular size could be a meal by itself.

Five Guys is a great burger option in the 4th U District. If you've another of my reviews Five Guys, you know I believe the nationwide chain to offer probably the nest burger and fries of the bunch. Most people would have trouble finishing the $5 burger, fry combo. The 4th Ave shop just makes me smile. All the gang working tonite brought a lot of joy into their workplace. They all were quick to greet me, see how my day was going and make I loved my meal. If you are frustrated trying to park on 4th, the good news is, their lot around the corner in back is ready for you. A small thing I appreciated here was availability of a caffeine free Diet Coke. As I've said before, If you have Five Guys, who needs Inn 'N Out????

Awesome bang for the buck! The service is great, they actually offered me a free meal just because they took a bit of time to give my burger (they dind't even take that long).

I tried Five Guys, the burger was good, but honestly, those "award winning fries" were horrid. Greasy, limp, foul-tasting fries. That said, I'd be willing to give them another shot based on their reviews, how polite their staff was, and my husband's significantly more enthusiastic response to the meal.

Five Guys, Five Guys, Five Guys, shame on you. You force me to subject the Yelpiverse to a rant about hamburger buns. Well, so be it. A few years ago, I remember hearing the name Five Guys for the first time. I was just a naive California girl back then, whose gourmet fast food horizons were pretty much limited to In-n-Out. I was excited, although a bit scared that my world was about to be blown. Fast forward a few years, I am now a slightly more cynical upper Midwest transplant. I was drunk and wearing a Halloween costume in Madison, WI. I saw the safe glow of Five Guys and a bevvy of equally drunk young people in queue. I thought, "I am now ready to have my mind blown." The amount of free toppings meant that the artist had a blank canvas for truly drunken greasy masterpiece. Admittedly, I think I went a little overboard. Instead, all I found was disappointment. I believe the "bread" part of anything provides a foundation to the food. Without a strong foundation, a house cannot stand. Without a proper bun, a Hamburger cannot stand. By the end of my little cheese burger, I was reduced to juggling the remnants of a good hamburger, the bun had completely wasted away to a soggy paste. I was totally unimpressed. I gave Five Guys another chance. I recently made a trip with my boyfriend. We totally got aww'd when we made our order. Boyfriend: "I'll have a bacon cheeseburger." Me: And I will have the little bacon cheeseburger." (yeah, we're cute.) I was hopeful this time. I decided to go easy on the free toppings, perhaps that was the reason for my total hamburger bun meltdown last time. I went easy with some tomato, lettuce, grilled onions and mustard. I even asked if I could have my bun toasted. The girl at the front told me that they do toast their buns. (Woulda fooled me) When our food came, my burger looked promising, but by the end, I was still left trying to keep my burger together between the mediocre bun that literally dissolved into a paste. Ugh. Not a fan. The burgers and ingredients are truly good, but they could easily add 2 more stars in my book if they just had a decent bun to hold all the toppings, copiously sized meat patties and cheese. Also, wrapping the entire thing in foil does not help the cause. A soggy nightmare.

Takes 10+ minutes to get a burger on a slow day. Music is way to loud. Regular size sodas are around $2.50. The toppings are great, but the bun/burger isn't much better than you'd get at McDonalds. Lots of fries, but the quality is very mixed. Their branding about being the "best" burger is totally bullshit: they're about quantity, not quality. Feel like shit after.

I have been waiting for this place to open for weeks, and today I was rewarded for my patience. This place had some serious buzz around it and my mouth was watering just thinking about Five Guys. We walk in and my friend goes up to order right away. Two of us hang back trying to decide if we should just share fries. Our cashier noticed and asked us if we'd eaten here before. No, we hadn't and it was a good thing she asked. Turns out the 'little cheeseburger' really means only one patty. The regular is two patties. So our friend didn't know that the regular patty was going to be big because the signs are completely unclear. $4 for the little burger is not bad... $.90 more for the double patty is even better (If your stomach can fit all that inside). My favorite thing is that all the extra toppings are free. And the fries weren't bad, but I will go for cajun next time. The staff is pretty great too. They are very approachable and seem to have a little fun while working. Plus they are very generous. They forgot to give me my fries right away. So when I asked for them, they gave me double. I got practically two cups of fries for one. Since Uncle Franky's is gone from Dinkytown. This might have to be my new burger joint...

Look, for people who follow me (and I'm sure there aren't many) you'll know I'm a sucker for a good burger. First thing you need to know at Five Guys, "hamburger" = double hamburger; "little hamburger" = single hamburger. The second thing you need to know is that "Small Fry" = huge. I've never dared to order a large fry, nor do I know anyone who has. I suspect that's because everyone who has is now dead or in a delicious coma (the lucky bastards). If you're just going here to grab a plain burger and some fries, you're probably going to be disappointed. Five guys is (are?) all about burgers piled high with all the tasty topping you could ask for. The only things that cost extra are bacon and cheese. Not too many fast food joints will throw A1 sauce with grilled onions & mushrooms on your burger at no extra cost. If you go and order a deluxe burger elsewhere, you're probably going to pay at least as much and it's just not going to be as good. Them's the facts. If you're ordering fries (and you should), bring a friend. I'm not sure it's possible for one human to consume a whole burger and an entire order of fries (but I am sure it's not a good idea). To be completely honest, I wish they had a smaller cheaper fry option. Five Guys has both their original fries and cajun fries, but I'd stick with the original. The cajun fries are really not very... umm... cajuny... You'll probably spend $8+ per person, but you'll be full and happy.

How is there a Five Guys like everywhere else like in California,Texas and the other locations in Minneapolis but none in Saint Paul? What's up with that?

Wayyyy too much food. But it was good. So, so, good. Hindsight is 20/20, and had I realized that there was a "little burger" option upon ordering I would've gotten that. But I got the regular cheeseburger (which is apparently a double) with bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. And we got the "small" (ha! yeah right!) cajun fries to share. The burger was super tasty! And, who am I to let food go to waste? I ate the entire thing!! It's a pretty messy burger, and kind of thrown together, but juicy and cheesy and delicious! The fries were thick and salty, and although they were good, after that burger, I think I only put down a handful of fries. We ended up throwing away more than half. They need to have a smaller side of fries avail. to accompany these monster burgers! Service was friendly ( a little slow ) , and the restaurant was clean. My man loved the free peanuts. I would stop back if we come across this place again.

I really only have 3 words. Best. Fries. EVER. I've read tons of reviews online about the fries here, so I decided to check out what the hype was about. The fries are amazing, but they give you a TON! a regular order is enough for 3 people! and the burgers aren't bad either. Also, they have free peanuts here which are pretty tasty, just as an added bonus!

First, a disclaimer...I did not actually order a burger here...but I ordered fries and a grilled cheese, and tried a bite of a friend's burger. So, I think I am still qualified to write this review. Second, as my Yelp motto says, I wholeheartedly support the statement that "the best things in life are fried"....But after my Five Guys experience, I'm thinking about adding "as long as they are not also dripping with grease". I got takeout, and ten minutes later when I arrived at my destination, my paper bag of Five Guys goodies was literally dripping through the bag onto the floor with grease. Now, I must say that everything did taste pretty good, but my friends also called me "Greasebag" for the rest of the night. The grilled cheese was a little soggy, but the fries were pretty delicious. I should also mention that I felt pretty horrible afterwards, due to diet-breaking, and the enormously heavy weight in my stomach after eating such a meal. So, if you need to go on a bender, and soak your sorrows with grease, go here. The food will taste pretty damn good, but you might not feel that much better afterwards.

Five Guys makes a solid burger. It's the funniest thing, apparently fresh, reasonable quality ingredients prepared at the moment of purchase produce a better product. Is this some new achievement in Burgerdom? No, think of it as a step up from fast food burgers. If you were not already aware you could do better than Burger King, I suppose this place could be a revelation. The prices are good, the burgers are good, the staff is friendly. Nothing to complain about, except maybe the hype.

It's a good burger. That said, it's not a $9 meal good burger. I love the service and the concept of casual fastfood. An entire show was built upon the concept and it works in the environment in Dinkytown. If you want to sacrifice taste for speed, you can, but they missed an opportunity in pricing. Yes, I know it's the $5 burger, I get it, but it's in a student quarter: Dinkytown. I went there at noon on a Monday and had one person ahead of me. One. They need some sort of student incentive to let people know that the burgers are indeed as tasty as an In-and-Out Burger place, and the cost is worth going. I thought my cajun fries were marginal. They are fresh but they tasted like undercooked potatoes that a sophomore in college would try to make in their 1950 apartment oven with spice thrown over the top. Did I expect crunchy? No. But I did expect ingrained flavor and not simply overseasoned, undercooked fries that required me to get 40 napkins to get the seasoning dust off my hands. I'd probably go again to give it a try with other people, but if by myself, I'll get a burger and nab some fries and a soda from McDonalds next door.

Five guys has a very simple menu. Take the words Little, Bacon, Cheese and Burger, come up with all the combinations and you're done. I tried their Bacon Cheeseburger and loved it. It's probably a shade better than Burger King. The toppings are a great touch, you can actually make subtle changes to the taste each time you visit. The spicy cajun fries are something worth trying as well. Mind you, there's a lot of fries. I can see people struggling to finish a meal of both the burger and fries, but it's still manageable. The staff were extremely friendly, but they do take more time on your orders than the standard fast food joint. I don't think mass produced fast food can get better than this, really. Of course, it's extremely unhealthy (2300 odd calories for the meal I had, I believe). But do you really care as long as it tastes good?

I should have learned my lesson from the Five Guys Burgers in Edina... At the end of the day, when you leave, you will sniff around thinking Five Guys Burgers was THAT good. It's not that (I mean they are good), it's just that your clothes still smell like the grease and cheese dripping from the patties... yum... grease. Oh, and try to wait until after one to hit up this joint cause it's B-U-S-Y, you ain't got no alibi!

    (4)
  • Helena Q.

The burgers here just do not stay together for longer than maybe three bites. The bun doesn't hold together very well, so all the toppings end up on the table. However, it is quite tasty, just very messy and structurally unsound. And I must say - before this, I didn't even realize that burger stability had such a big impact on enjoyment of a burger. If I wanted a patty and a side salad, I wouldn't have gone to a burger place? Five Guys has burgers at comparable prices to Annie's Parlor, which is two blocks away. The buns and actual patty at Annie's is much better, BUT Five Guys has much nicer (and free!) toppings. So YMMV.

Oh, the hype. Even when you enter the Five Guys Burger establishment, you are still bombarded with hype - placards are posted all around the dining room quoting rave reviews of Five Guys from media outlets across the USA. But I have already chosen to eat here, so why do you need to vehemently advertise how good the burgers are? I made some mistakes during this first visit: I ordered too much. A good portion would be 1 "little burger" and a shared small order of fries. The regular burger, which is two patties, and includes as many free toppings as you want, is do-able, but the stack is so high that you may have to break it into two half-burgers. That's what I did. The value is definitely there, as a $4.49 hamburger will get the job done, as will a $3.59 little hamburger with some fries. Plus there are free peanuts. Disappointingly, I found the taste of the patty itself to be bland and lacking in character. It was like a burger you eat at someone's cookout or a tailgate party. Adding the toppings makes the eating experience more enjoyable. cliffs notes: value good; taste meh. I dare you to post that on your wall, Five Guys.

Five guys is delicious! The free toppings and the large sizes make this a great burger place. The fries are great as well! It is a little spendy but worth it! and the fries portions are so big that they can definitely be shared with others

EVERY Five Guys has amazing food, but in Dinkytown they have Keith, and that's what sets them apart. Excellent service, especially from our favorite Guy of all the Five Guys, KEITH!

Really quick service, but very good burgers and fries. This is a great place to grab a quick bit to eat and still get a great burger.

So freakin good! This is my go to fast food, since I hardly ever get fast food. My boyfriend and I have had many delicious dinners of take out from 5 guys. I always get a "little burger" which is just a single. The regular burger is wayyyy too big for me. Plus if you want to get fries be prepared because a small order will feed at least 2, probably 3 people as a side. Another HUGE plus is there is a parking lot in the back of the building past McDonalds, making this possibly the most convenient place to eat in Dinkytown. 2 words: LOVE IT!!

Burgers and fries as good as it gets. Very impressed with the whole ensemble.

  • Erin B.

Very good, greasy, messy burgers and HUGE servings of fries. Certainly not healthy, but a yummy place for a late-night burger after the bar! Note: a "regular" burger is a double burger and a "small" burger is a single burger.

  • Danielle S.

Their french fries are ridiculously greasy and still have the peels on. Also, they have no ice cream and are expensive.
