My wife and I went there to eat within the past week. We had never been to the previous location so can't comment on the new vs. the old. We did think the new space was nice and we were seated very quickly. My wife ordered the faquitas while I ordered a chicken dish with sour cream and chipotle sauce. We had a very long wait for our order to arrive and then mine was luke-warm so I sent it back to be heated up. My dish was good while the faquitas were pretty average. We each had large margaritas and agreed they were rather weak. Hey guys...for $8 or $9 I at least want to taste a little tequila in my margarita. Overall the service was fine and they had a live guitar player and singer who was very good. Can't say this place stood out though. The food and drinks seemed overpriced considering the location and overall quality.

We have loved El Tejaban since we discovered it about 5 years ago. I have said since then that it is the best Mexican food in the southwest metro. However, our visit today was quite a disappointment. The food doesn't seem as good as it was at their old location (across the street) and both our dishes were room temperature....not warm at all. And the sauces tasted like they'd come straight out of the refrigerator....they were still cold. I hope this was just a fluke.

Worst place ever. Horrible salsa. Horrible chips. That's as far as we got because we sat here for 15 minutes while every other table was served on. Ridiculous.

Today me and a friend went here for lunch, the server Felipe was nice and brought refills and everything in a timely manner. Gay friendly spot FYI... Maybe next time with my chimichanga I'll try the red sauce, the green was not spicy enough, sauces for nachos is amazing. But I wish they made their chimi's with more meat and less rice.... The retried beans could also stand to summer a bit longer but overall a good experience. I'll return next time I'm in richfield.

We really like this place, the inside decor down to the authentic Mexican food. It's got good drinks as well and the prices are reasonable. We went on the weekend and they had someone playing guitar and singing

I ate here with three business associates on 08/06/2015. We needed something close to the airport and, based on the yelp reviews, this seemed like a good place to try. I, along with my crew, were thoroughly disappointed. Two of the four of us meals arrived 15 min after the first two. By that time, the first two people were done eating. On top of that, they were not the correct order and were downright cold. We didn't demand new food because we were all so hungry. Our server seemed uninterested in our table and rarely checked on us. I'm giving two stars, instead of one, because the server did appear over worked and, albeit cold, the food tasted good and they have free chips and salsa. All in all, I will not be returning here or recommending others to come.

Tejaban is our go to Mexican place in Southwest Minneapolis for hole in the wall style Mexican American cuisine. When we heard they were changing locations to move to a larger space we were both excited to not have to wait so long for a seat but devastated that our lives would be missing Choriqueso for months at a time. Well finally the wait is over! Tejaban 2.0 has opened across the street and it is a wonderful upgrade for the owners. What's new: -Sleek new bar with flat screens so you can enjoy a margarita while catching the game -Spacious dinning room with way more booths -Tomatillo based salsa that comes gratis with chips to the table, this stuff is addicting Great things that haven't changed: -Same big menu with every conceivable meat, cheese, beans and tortilla combination that are all totally delicious -Humungous Margaritas that come in delicious fruity flavors like Peach and Hibiscus -Tacos for $2.50 a pop, a ridiculous deal when 2 will fill you up The service here is always considerate, but truthfully it's pretty slow. Just get a jumbo margarita, sit back and enjoy, this is not the place to go when you are in a rush.

Just went there for the first time ever and had the vegetarian enchiladas. No complaints. The food was great, especially the black bean refried beans. I didn't really care for the chips and salsa they give you before you order but that was probably just a personal taste thing. The wait staff was friendly and quick enough. I'm sure I'll be back again.

Consistently good food at a good price. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. I really enjoy their Posole, Carnitas and Molcajetes. They also make a really nice Mojito and decent Margarita. Our family enjoys El Tejaban a couple time a month and have yet to be disappointed!

Had a great experience. Manuel was very nice and timely. Never left us waiting for anything. Food was very good and huge portions. Very reasonably priced too. Would definitely go back. Oh and the one guy said pop was only in a can but they are fountain pops so ignore that.

Went there a few weeks ago. Stood at the front desk for a good ten minutes before we were seated. Then after waiting another fifteen minutes at our table still hot meeting our waiter we just left.

We used to love this restaurant when they were across the street. Great food and great service. After they expanded...the service went way down. Twice we have been seated and it will take up to 20 minutes to have staff come to the table. After ordering, our food took over an hour and was not what we ordered. It was still good, but not what we wanted.

I'm a preliminary fan as I only stopped into this establishment for a research project I'm doing at school and was offered a free margarita, I mean, hello, yes I will be back. But I am intrigued with this place, the decor is very bright, but more in a pleasant and inviting way. The menu is extensive, but is playing to the tune of traditional Mexican fare. I got the pleasure of talking with one of the cooks/owners, and he is very knowledgable and passionate about the food he is serving. He comes from a family where food is one of the most important aspects of life. I trust this guy and I want to eat his food. The marg was great, not too sweet, always good. I also got some chips and salsa, which were great. The chips seemed to be homemade and had very little salt on them. The salsas were great, a normal tomato based one, and some yellow one that was great, I don't know what it was, but I want it in my mouth again. I don't go out this way often, but I know where I'll be stopping if i do.

Really good, fresh Mexican food. You can tell everything is scratch made. My son and I went for lunch and had a very pleasant experience. Our server was very friendly! 18 different lunch specials for $6.99.

El Tejaban has moved across Nicollet Ave into the larger strip mall. The square footage is probably double the old location and they have made the most of the space and installed a bar and a semi-open kitchen. It feels kind of cavernous but is well decorated, has good decor and color, and overall seems more lively than the old place. Menu is very much the same but still the consistent quality expected.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in town. Not only is it friendly with a great, fun atmosphere; but it is wonderful authentic food at reasonable prices. I also love their late hours on weekends. I recommend going on a Friday or Saturday night when there is karaoke. Just hope that their VERY tone deaf bartender isn't singing that night! I highly recommend Jaime as far as waiters. Agreed with other posts about the chimichanga. While it is my favorite thing on the menu, but definitely Need more meat, less rice

My lady friend and I ate here on May 23, 2015. I had wanted to try it since they moved across the street. They were excellent at the old location but I was not impressed at the new location. And the only reason we came here was because Cintia's of Mexico, five blocks to the north, is now a burger place. I did not like the chips or the salsa and the menu was a bit confusing to me. I ended up ordering a carnitas burrito but would have preferred a combination dinner. However I could not find what appealed to me. Our waiter, Filipe, disappeared to work in the bar. When we wanted to leave, we had to ask another waiter to have him come to our table with the bill. We asked Felipe to just split the bill because that is what my friend always wants to do. The bills were both 19.37 and I wrote in a $3.00 tip. When my credit card bill came, the charge was $24.37 instead of $22.37. I went back a week later and talked with the manager. He checked the computer but could not determine what happened. So he gave me $2.00 in cash and apologized. He gave me a printout of the total transaction and after looking it over, I see what went wrong. The total bill was $38.74 but when he split it in half, he charged us each $24.37. He somehow added $10.00 to the total before he split it and ignored our tips. I think we will now move on and try El Loro next time.

Everything was just okay. Probably wouldn't go again. A little spendy compared to other similar places that I've been. Margaritas were good but that was probably the best part of the meal, which isn't a good sign.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
