Authentic Mexican food! I ordered the chicken fajita burrito and I would definitely order that again! The burrito was huge, bigger than one at Chipotle! Very reasonable pricing for the quality of the food. The menu is huge and can be a little overwhelming, and the one thing I wish they has was combinations, in using a drink at least and maybe a side. They also have a cool market across from where you order and can purchase authentic Mexican food products and souvenirs! Would definitely go back!

when we ordered lunch, the guy at the register let me know it would be six or seven minutes before the PAPUSA would be ready and i said that was fine. i have to be seriously late for something really important to mind waiting for fresh food. then he took off never to be seen or heard from (at least by us) again. nearly thirty minutes in (and we were the only customers during that period) i went over and asked the woman behind the counter what the status was on our order and she scowled, walked to the register and finally started our PAPUSA. the kids were getting anxious so i had her grab their tamale out of the steamer. they were both too hungry to complain much about how dry it was -- how can something sitting in a steamer be dry? the only reason this place got a second star was because the PAPUSA (the SALVADORAN version of an AREPA) which showed up about 45 minutes after we ordered was kinda interesting. ours had chicharron (cooked pork meat ground to a paste not fried pork rinds) and it came with curtido, a lightly fermented cabbage slaw with red chilies, turmeric (brain tells me achiote but sure looked like turmeric to me) and vinegar -- spicy but pretty darn good.

The one item that they only have at their St. Paul location is the one item I'm addicted to. Their "fried pork fat". I'm not kidding, this stuff is not only tasty, I'm pretty sure that it's not all that good for you. Like eating only the outside edges of good, crisp, greasy porkchops. MAN AM I HUNGRY! Milissa - I'm not talking about the carnitas. Those are delicious too, but in the deli, right next to the carnitas, the fried pork fat awaits. I need to go get some of that. My doctor says that if I eat them only once every 4 months, I should be OK. Definitely not health food ;/\

Really enjoyed this burrito place. People behind the counter were very polite and informative, seemed to really be enjoying themselves. Ordered the fajita burrito based upon the servers recommendation, was really good. The salsa bar was great, good spicy and mild salsa. Food was so good that I ordered some nachos before I left and they were probably the best part. Highly recommended, especially with the little brewery right next door.

This is an authentic combined Mexican market & restaurant inside Global Market. They have a fantastic selection of fresh salsa & guac to go, all kinds of spiciness levels, and homemade chips. There are other deli items to purchase, as well as tamales. There is authentic Mexican snack food, sodas, candies, canned items, and more. You can place your order at the restaurant and have a seat - there are many traditional Mexican dishes & plates and a little area with salsa and "toppings." I have not yet tried the restaurant. I recommend the market/deli if you are looking for quick & easy apps or for a dish to share. The prices are not bad, and the flavors, consistencies and ingredients were very authentic.

Quite possibly one of the BEST burritos ever! I asked the guy if he recommended tacos or burritos. He suggested the TexMex burrito and boy was it amazing!! Very fresh and the carne asada was perfect. The flavor was on point and it was seriously just amazing. I've been struggling to find good Mexican food and it looks like this place has it goin on!! Love the Global Market for gems like this!

I am contradicting my last review. Which was about how amazing this place in the Midtown Market was. I witnessed it's demise right in front of my eyes. As much as I resisted writing this and giving them chances after chances, they have keep failing. The size of the burrito has shrunk, they no longer deep fry it. None of the food comes with chips or guacamole. The taco if filled with cabbage. And the lady behind the counter is rude enough to make you feel like your begging for food. I give it two stars only because I love Mexican food. And there are plenty of other good options here at this Market.

A new discovery as I did not know there was a second location outside of St. Paul. They seem to have a good selection of food preparations. A "guisado platter" sounded good to me and I asked for beef. I was asked if I wanted the plain or the spicy beef. I was unfamiliar, so the man offered me a taste of each. That was very nice. I found both versions of their beef to be w a y too salty for my tastes; therefore, I asked for chicken. Again, the man asked if I wanted regular or spicy chicken. I said "spicy". Several minutes after placing our order, our meals (and our Mexican Cokes) were ready. We settled ourselves at a table close by and tucked into our dinners. The spicy chicken guisado was so tasty! Good spice, and very moist and tender. I had opted to receive some thinly-sliced lettuce and chopped tomato on the side as well as corn tortillas, and it came with lightly seasoned rice and creamy refried beans. It was really good! Mexican comfort food to me. It'd be nice to eat at this place again tonight, when it's below freezing and windy as the Oregon coast . However, this woman ain't goin' nowhere (outside) anymore tonight!

Great food, great flavor. The area is set up as a "food court" atmosphere so don't expect anything more. The menu offerings had something for everyone and the service was great. If I'm in the area I'd certainly go there again but wouldn't make a special trip.

The avocado shake looked way too vanilla ice and tasted like cement. Only trusting asian places on this from now on.

If you know me, and you probably don't, I freaking LOVE burritos. I don't know what pushed me to be this way, but I am addicted to burritos. If I go a week without eating one (out or homemade, don't worry I don't always break the bank) my heart may actually stop pumping blood just because I NEED burritos to survive. If you watch Futurama, you can compare my condition to Bender's uncontrollable desire to drink. Anyways, this burrito in particular, lived up to my expectations and then went beyond. It isn't very likely that when ordering a veggie burrito out that it comes with much more than rice, beans, a dash of lettuce, cheese, and maybe pico or some tomatoes. This one had the basics, and the were delicious, but then it had sauteed carrots, zucchini, and peppers, perfectly crisp, perfectly wonderful! For a whopping $4 for just the burrito, I will be visiting this place more often. They also have a mini salsa bar at this location, no idea about the much larger St. Paul location, which has a chipotle sauce, normal tomato salsa, a tomatillo salsa, and some extra jalapenos! They also have a few entrees that have student discount, just show it and watch the savings appear!

Really good Mexican food! I can vouch for the pork tamales and the drowned burrito, which are both awesome. I recommend their pork al pastor for burritos and the green tomatillo sauce on the drowned burrito. The spinach tortilla is the way to go. Would like to try the street tacos and a pupusa next time I'm there... so much to try! One more tip - you can sub black beans for refried if you don't like refried like me. Refried seems to be the default beans on most of their burritos.

The pupusas weren't all that great-- not really any filling to speak of, nor a crispy exterior-- but they were cheap ($2.65) which provides a small measure of redemption. The burrito contained a small amount of meat, but plenty of rice, beans, and cheese... so your enjoyment level will definitely depend on your preferences of the fillings. I'm not that keen on a vegetarian burrito, so it wasn't my favorite. Be prepared to wait, as sometimes they don't work the counter very efficiently-- but the prices are cheap and they have a few unique offerings, so 3 stars fits this place.

I was thrilled to hear they added a location in the Midtown Global Market. I have been a fan of the W. St. Paul location for years and crave their food regularly. I order the sopas the other day and after getting some advice on the spice factor on the various meats go the three spiciest offerings; 3 sopas come in the meal along with rice and refried beans. Needless to say, or maybe it needs to be said, it easily became two meals. Additionally, they have salsas for every spice level and all taste very fresh and fantastic. They are super friendly, have a lovely little tienda alongside the short order food. You must try it, so delicious!

Fun, fun, fun, I love when restaurants also have a little grocery store attached! It allows you to eat then and take some stuff home to try to recreate it yourself later. Now if only the home version could measure up! This is a cute mexican place that does your typical burrito, tacos etc with a few specialties thrown in. They have the meat pre marinated but they fix it fresh in front of you, kind of like the subway assembly line so you get to pick exactly what you want. I had to try the burrito since the place was named after it, it must be good right? It did not disappoint and it was huge and packed full of spicy goodness. I browsed the shop quickly and they have all kinds of homemade fresh stuff like salsa and pico de gallo. As well as hard to find latin foods and fresh veggies like plantains. My friend from Venezuela is very excited about this place because she's able to find lots of hard to get stuff from her homeland. Now I just have to learn her recipes. Welcome addition to the neighborhood, nice people, clean, cute and well stocked!

On a whim, I visited the Midtown Market. I was attracted to the veggie options and reasonable prices at El Burrito Mercado. Totally the right choice. First thing she does is throw a bunch of fresh, crisp veggies onto the grill. I chose peppers and carrots, but potatoes were also an option. You wouldn't think this would be a big deal, but not many local Mexican restaurants have the fresh thing down. A few minutes later I'm chomping on a delicious burrito full of flavor and a little crunch. I'm craving it right now just writing about it. The only downside is being served in to-go containers. The food is sit down restaurant quality and the seating area is actually pretty nice.

This is a review of just the grocery. I have not tried the food, and it will be very hard for me to do so with Sonora grill next door, but I know it is very good in the St. Paul location. The grocery is a very shrunken-down version of the Supermarket sized El Burrito in West St. Paul, which by the way everyone should really visit if you haven't! I mainly wanted to share here that there are some interesting items available here that I have NOT found in the St. Paul location, nor anywhere else in the Twin Cities. Mainly, Huitlacoche or cuitlacoche as it says on the can here. These so-called "Mexican truffles" are somewhat of a delicacy that I have looked in many places for and not found until now in the cities, and make for very tasty vegetarian quesadillas. Also they have flores de calabaza or squash blossoms in a can which I have not looked for as much but are also not the most common thing. The remodeling from the market that was here before was well-done, they seem to fit more products in while keeping the space very open and inviting. Of course, they do not have everything that they offer in St. Paul, and some things that I would really like to buy, such as queso dip, were not there, but perhaps they just ran out that day. The prices are a bit higher than St. Paul but that makes sense. I buy all my espresso coffee here: Cafe Bustelo is a very good espresso coffee for a very low price ($5). You can also get a lot of spices from Badia brand for much cheaper than in a normal supermarket.

Overall this is my favorite mexican food establishment in the metro area....I grew up on a lot of Mexican food and everywhere i've been has its drawbacks. I usually order a Guisado platter, they have several to choose from...pork in chipotle is very good, Barbacoa, chicken, steak, etc.... Being a former restaurant manager I look at food handling, temperatures, and cooking methods......I have no problem eating here, the kitchen is pretty open. Some places i've been can cook good food, but I won't eat in them. Prices are competitive, i paid around 8.00 with a can of coke...50 cents a can with a meal....try it!

Great little market, where you can also get tasty tacos y burritos, made to order. They have alot of hard to find items from Mexico and Latin America, and I grabbed a bunch of empanada wraps. Just another reason to visit Midtown Global Market. I cannot believe how many people live within 2 miles of this place, and have never heard of it! Check it out

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
