This place is solid. I'd really like to give this place 5 stars, but they don't serve booze anymore. Every time we go there for a meal we ask about when they'll serve beer or margaritas again and they always say "soon!" but they've been saying that now for over a year. Disappointing! Their margaritas were great.... and sometimes, margaritas make the meal. I absolutely love the shrimp fajitas here. They're steaming hot, a little spicy, fresh, and overall delicious. We've also ordered various combo platters which have been good. The food is generally authentic. The service is great and quite friendly and the atmosphere is funky-yet-charming.

Wow, so many reviews!!! And here I thought Dominguez was a well kept secret... what can I say, I LOVE Dominguez. Great, authentic Mexican food, GREAT service and Family owned. Not too expensive either. What more could you want???

I will judge you based on your Fried Ice Cream. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. I am a Fried Ice Cream junkie. The ratio of honey to chocolate in DR's FIC is off. There should be more honey than chocolate... in fact... I don't even care for chocolate on my FIC anyway. It's about the crunch and honey. Repeat after me... "Crunch & honey, crunch & honey..." Soooo... not a huge fan of it here which is disappointing because.... Their food is wonderful. Authentic. Large menu. Margaritas are THE BEST IN TOWN. They use some sort of salt/sugar/sour mix for the rim of their glasses and I'm convinced it's crack. I kind of resemble a cow and a salt lick with one of these in hand. Space is small and quaint. They do have a dining area in the basement for larger parties as well. I feel slightly conflicted about writing this review as I think of it as a hidden gem... but, I am not a selfish yelper... I share the wealth.

Thus far, I've only gotten food to go here. It is a wonderful, family-oriented restaurant with excellent food. You won't be sorry that you visited it! It's local and easy to get to from most anywhere.

I've always liked this place. Food is good and authentic, service is good, prices are good. I learned of it by word of mouth, as it's off the beaten path. I don't know why they lost their liquor license, but then I don't mind. My wife likes it too, and she's hard to please.

For local Mexican, hard to beat. Fish tacos - amazing. Cute space, only knock is no liquor license, but the lime soda is fun.

DON"T GET FOOD FOR TAKE OUT FROM THE DINNER MENU. REALLY DISAPPOINTING! Really small portions and the prices were more than what was advertised online once we got there. Ordered the tamales and they were advertised as large but they were the smallest large tamales I've ever seen. Ordered one with meat and one with cheese and was charged extra. Never told this when ordering. The chicken Mole we ordered had CHINESE 5 SPICE in it. Maybe it was inspired by Cheech and Chong. Or else the Cook was ;) Each dinner had a really small table spoon or so of the beans and rice. The sit down lunch menu and chips are good. The prices are better and the waiter is always very nice. Would recommend the lunch Fajitas only at this place.

Best. Margaritas. Ever. Don't let the bright orangish yellow exterior fool you . .. Sweet little mexican restaurant within walking distance of my house. Everything that I have tried there is great, my fave is the shrimp tacos. Delicious. Friend also had some fajitas in a mole sauce, also very good. But back to the maragaritas - cheap, cold and awesome - perfect for the 90 degree day that we had yesterday. The wait staff is always very friendly and nice and the service is great. It's a must see.

We go here ALL THE TIME. So close to home. Great srevice, great food. If you're disappointed that there's no liquor served here, be advised that there's a liquor store two blocks away- you can fulfill your need for a corona at home. Also, after reading some negative reviews, I have to say that if you're not used to authentic looking and tasting Mexican food, there is a Taco Bell on Park and Lake Street. Enjoy.

Ahh.... Dominguez. When I tell others about it, they ask "How did you ever find this place?" Our friends randomly came upon Dominguez while looking for a place to have a beer in East Nokomis and told us about this jem. So glad they did! It is not fancy or gourmet nor are the prices. What you will find is reliably good Mexican basics in a clean, cozy family-run restaurant. My all-time favorite are the shrimp tacos - cooked in a spicy Chipoltle sauce and served on corn tortillas with cilantro and onions (refried beans and rice on the side), you can't go wrong. I've tried other dishes, but come back to shrimp tacos. When we come in for dinner, our server gives me the look: shrimp tacos? Yup, without question. They also have a fine homemade green salsa made with tomatillos and avocados. I highly recommend it, though unless it comes with your dish (for example, the tacquitos, which are small open face tacos) you will have to pay extra for it. One bummer is that they appear to have lost their liquor license a few months ago. I do miss having a cold Pacifico with dinner, but the food alone is worth the drive over here.

"Are you sure this is the place?" I asked my friend when we pulled up to this restaurant and parked in the back. Admittedly, I was a little hesitant to eat here based on the outside appearance but once we were seated the aroma of food and warm ambience quelled any reservations I had. The service was really friendly and attentive throughout the time we were there. I ordered the chimichanga plate which was really good compared to other chimis I've had in the past. Based on the recommendation of other Yelpers I got the green salsa which was amazing. It accompanied the freshly fried chips well and had a little hint of heat. Dominguez is a pretty solid restaurant and I'm definitely looking forward to trying the other dishes this place has to offer.

A wonderful neighborhood hidden gem - quite literally it can be hard to find! I am an avid fan of Mexican food, so it takes a lot to meet my standards. Dominguez is warm and inviting, very small but in a quaint and comfortable way. I haven't ordered many different things on their menu, as I ordered the tamales and fish tacos the first time coming here and I've been hard pressed to change my order because they are so good! The tacos and enchiladas are pretty comparable to what you'd find at other Mexican restaurants, so if you want to really understand what their food is all about, branch out and try the chorizo tacos, fish tacos, chicken or beef tamales or they're carne asada burrito. You won't be terribly impressed with the cheese dip, it's pretty standard, but if you want an app and aren't too picky, the cheese dip and guacamole make a nice starter. The best thing about Dominguez is the consistency. Food is always consistently good, serve is quick and friendly, and best of all, the owners will recognize you if you are a repeat customer. It always feels good to walk in and be recognized and greeted with a warm smile.

Try as I might to support the local biz, this restaurant will not see me back. Son's steak taquitos were delish, but the rest of the meal was quite forgettable. A pool of bland refrieds, pale slivers of iceberg lettuce, and the mound of rice overwhelm the plates in a been there done that sort of way. The shrimp tacos shriveled next to my memory of the same dish at nearby Sea Salt. Sorry hombres...

Great Mexican in a city that isn't spoiled for choice. I'm so glad Dominguez is in the neighborhood. Everything I've had here is fresh and tasty. Excellent for dining in or taking out. Service is friendly and prices are reasonable.

Not a Minneapolis native, but every time I visit my brother and sister-in-law they take me here. For a serious Mexican food lover this place hits the spot! Friendly staff (bonus if you speak a little Spanish!), cozy ambiance, and great food (I'm a fan of the fish tacos). Definitely an excellent local restaurant worth checking out!

This place is the bomb. A lot has been said here about Dominguez so I'll be quick - Tip 1: The shrimp tacos are even better than the fish. Tip 2: Ask for the green salsa. It's not on the menu and other tables will look at you like you're cool when they see it.

Completely unpretentious, solid service, good flavor and value -- that's what I want in a restaurant, and Familia Dominguez delivers. I had my second experience on Sept. 18, 2010, and the place was packed for dinner. It's worth noting that the wait staff is efficient and attentive. There are about 10 tables in the dining room (a few more up front along a wall), so it's hard to have privacy, but as a result it's easy to get noticed if you need something. I had the pechuga de pollo -- nothing fancy about the presentation (maybe even a bit sloppy), but I will give up on that for good taste. It was very good, and the portion was large enough to tote home a bit for tomorrow's lunch. My plate cost about $11, and my companion's three small tacos was about $9. Not a bargain, but it won't break the bank. The exterior looks a bit unpolished, but I would not describe this place as a dive. It's just a bit small-time. The dining area is clean and well-lit. This is in my neighborhood, so I'll be back. The Twin Cities needs more Mexican restaurants in the neighborhoods!

This five star review is soley for the amazing green salsa at Dominguez. They actually sell this stuff to the public if you just ask at the front counter. I think most of the food at Dominguez is about average for your family run Mexican joint, but you spoon some of that green salsa on there, and it's magic. Their guacamole stinks, but add green salsa and POOF! It's friggin guacamolicious. Go at lunch time and it is dirt cheap.

I'm sad that I have to write this, but in all honesty things just weren't he same my second time at Dominguez. Nothing was "bad" per say, but the flavorful fish tacos and dollop of quac that I had on Cinco de Mayo just didn't come to play on the night I went a few weeks ago. I have no other option than to elect a new Taco King - La Sirena Gorda in the Midtown Global Market.

Got a cheese enchilada lunch special and it was OK. There was no red sauce, nor was there any cilantro or onions and garlic mixed with the cheese inside of the enchiladas to jazz them up a bit (but maybe that's just how I'm used to preparing them). The rice w/ frozen veggies and bean sides were the smallest I've seen in any Mexican restaurant authentic or not. I don't care much about portion size as long as it tastes good, but there just wasn't much flavor, so portion size would have been something nice to fall back on. For less money I've had more flavorful and more filling Mexican fare in Mpls. I liked most what they did with the front of the building.

  • My friend Lou is guardian to several children of a half-Mexican family. The pater of this family approves this place, and two of the sons count it as their favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. So when she offered to take me there tonight for dinner, I jumped at the chance. It did not disappoint. I had tilapia enchiladas and a side of chili con queso. Lou had a sizzling platter of tilapia and shrimp fajitas (I am allergic to shrimp, alas.) It was all very satisfying and delicious. Authentic? How should I know, I have never been to Mexico. I will trust the experts on this one. The ambience is pleasant and cozy. The service is faultless. You should go there.

Authentic, flavorful Mexican. If you want cheap, bland flavors, go to Taco Bell. For rich mole, chipolte flavors and the crispiest chips ever, go here. Disappointing guacamole, though.

Had the fish tacos. They were the best fish tacos I've ever had (though I've only had them a few times before). The fish tasted very fresh and of high quality. Despite the rather run-down looking outside, inside is a completely different story; very inviting. Service was prompt and waitress and manager were both friendly. The only downside to the experience is it is a bit on the pricy side for Mexican fare. I would eat here again without hesitation if in the area.

I celebrated a friend's birthday at Dominguez because he loves Mexican food and we wanted to try a new place. I thought the food was pretty standard -- nothing super noteworthy, but it was better than decent. I really appreciated that the portions weren't gigantic like most sit-down Mexican restaurants. My big disappointment was that I ordered a puffy taco on the side -- I was hoping that meant a puffy fried flour tortilla, but what I got was more like a tostada cup made out of corn tortilla with filling. It tasted fine, just not what the words "puffy taco" would signal. If I lived closer to Dominguez, I would probably stop in from time to time for a quick bite and beers, but I'm not sure if it's worth the drive across town.

Don't let the exterior fool you. This place is awesome for lunch since the specials are 7 days a week. Tasty chips and the green salsa is delicious--ask for it it's worth the extra money. I got to select three different items from the lunch menu for $7.75. Rice and beans were included and both were fantastic. I wish I could move this place to St. Paul and replace La Cucaracha with it.

I read decent reviews from others and thought Id give it a try. Such a disappointment. Yes its small, yes there isnt much off street parking, but nonetheless my friend and I went in to try it. There was a tornado in the neighboring cities, so we were the only ones here. We were greeted by a friendly man, but he was sooo softspoken we repeatedly had to ask him to repeat himself, strike 1. We were asked what we would like to drink, after looking at the menu I chose a mixed drink, and my friend chose a beer, only to be told they dont serve alcohol on Sundays, strike 2. Next we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was very good, but too much heat, we asked if they had mild salsa. They did, when it arrived, it was pretty much tomato sauce, strike 4. Now we order our meal. My friend's meal is what it was advertised as. My meal...I ordered 3 taquitos. Our waiter asked if I wanted 3 different meat fillings, so I did. When I got my food, they werent taquitos, they were open face soft corn tortillas with a filling placed on top of them, strike 5. Finally, after we ate, we asked for the bill. On the bill, there was an added $1.00. When I asked what it was fir, I was told if I wanted 3 diff fillings on my supposed taquitos, it was $1.00 more, strike 6. He took the added $1.00 off when I explained he never told us that. Not going back.

The place is small and you may be cramped waiting to get a seat. But if you can suffer through that then you in store for great service and awesome food.

Service with a smile. Cheap margaritas ($3.75!), so-so chips and salsa. We had the Queso which was yummy but mild (no spice at all). My boyfriend tried the Steak Fajitas' which he enjoyed, I ordered the Shrimp Tacos. The shrimp was excellent, fresh and plump. However they used real chipotle chilies and way too much of them. My dish was so spicy I was unable to finish it (turn off!). The bill came to $45 for 2 margaritas, queso, and 2 entrées which I thought was $10 too much for what we got. I'm not sure I'll be back.

Fish tacos. Get them. They're different than most. There's no napa salad on them and they aren't sweet and are medium spicy. Served along with a healthy side of refried beans, spanish rice, pico de gallo, and guac. The owner or host is incredibly kind and the price is fair. Their other dishes are tasty as well, though i've stuck pretty close to the fish tacos since i tried them.

This is a great, authentic Mexican restaurant. It is small inside but brightly decorated and clean. The waitstaff is very attentive - we even had two waiters at one point! The margharitas are amazing. Probably one of the best I have ever had. The chips were good but the salsa is basically a red, taco sauce that left a bit to be desired. Highly suggest the shrimp tacos and #10 special. The portions are large and the food tastes authentic and fresh. I will definitely be going back to this great little neighborhood restaurant.

I'm a huge Atmosphere fan and in their song "She's Enough" they mentioned Dominquez, so I felt obligated to go. I popped in with a few coworkers over lunch. The restaurant was a lot smaller than I originally thought it was going to be. I wouldn't recommend going in a group larger than 6. They also serve free hot chips and salsa which are awesome!! I split the chicken Morelos Nachos with my friend. They were amazing. I loved how each chip was a mini nacho. The only thing I was disappointed in was that they didn't have margaritas! Can't wait to go back!

  • Jerice A.

Excellent service, very bland food. I was recommended to try this place from my airbnb host... I'd give them a 1 based upon food but there servers were very nice so they get a 2. I love supporting local restaurants, so I thought I'd give this one a shot. Chips were overlooked and tasted burnt, salsa was decent, but the cheese dip tasted super bland. Ordered ground beef tamales topped with the chili con queso and it tasted and looked like it was frozen and reheated. The ground beef wasn't seasoned the masa was so bland, ugh but the rice and beans were great! I was just expecting more authentic Mexican flavor but unfortunately it didn't come through.

I am so glad I discovered Dominguez because it is now my go-to spot for nachos. A friend brought this place so I decided to head to Yelp and read the reviews. I saw a photo of the nachos and that decided that I was going there. I went on a Thursday afternoon around 11:45am and our party of 7 got seated immediately so it was nice we didn't have to wait. The place is pretty small and as it got through more of the lunch rush others had to wait. They brought chips and salsa to our table to start (for free) so it was great to snack on. I split the Morelos Chicken Fajita Nachos and was so glad I did! Rather than a heaping pile of chips and toppings, each chip is COVERED in meat and cheese and you get lettuce, jalepenos, sour cream, tomatoes and guac to top yourself. Each bite is delicious and has every topping you want. It was nice to have the extra chips we got at the beginning to add to make it a bit more filling. These are probably the best nachos I have had so far in the Twin Cities! Plus it was only $7.00! I would love to come back and try other food but for now the nachos will be enough to bring me back. Only disappointment was they don't have margaritas.

Tonight my friend and I stepped out of my apartment building and faced a decision: the Mexican restaurant down the street if we went left, or the Mexican restaurant down the street if we went right. We picked left, and that was an AMAZING decision because we wound up here. We rolled in around 8:20PM, and they close at 9PM. Technically. I say "technically" because at no point did it seem like they were rushing us out or in any way begrudging us for walking in toward the end of the night and being too caught up in chatting to get ourselves out the door again until 9:30PM. The service is wicked fast, but not in any way obnoxious or overbearing. Our server was there when we wanted him, and not there when we didn't. He was also so, so, so amazingly pleasant. Sometimes it seems like a server is just fakin' it for another table of people, but he seemed so genuine and kind. It was remarkable. (Literally, since I had to remark on it!) My friend, who is allergic to All The Things (not really, but some days it sure seems close), tallied out what she couldn't have included on her fajitas and what she wanted to sub in, and it was not even a little bit of a problem. If you want to sub in things or have allergies, this is a good place to go! I deeply appreciate the ability to sub things in a restaurant--way to not be a jerk, restaurant! (I don't even usually sub things, but it's just courteous, amirite?) The complimentary WARM chips and salsa were tasty tasty, and I may have just nonstop ate them throughout the entire meal. (I totally did.) Once the chip count got down to below the rim of the basket, our server swooped in and replaced the now tepid chips with fresh warm chips. Endless fresh warm chips and salsa!! Jeez, come here just for that, y'all. My taco plate (one chicken, one beef because life is all about options and what the customer wants in this joint) was delicious, and the portion size wasn't that hideous overserving you get at a chain restaurant. It was actually possible to eat all of the rice, refried beans, and tacos and not feel like you just went up a pant size. I know this because I did it, and I am not obnoxiously full right now. There was also a special tonight (Wednesday) for $5/glass of wine or $12/bottle of wine. $12!!! I'm sure they make good margaritas here, but I am not passing up decent wine at a cheap price in a restaurant. The space itself is wicked tiny, and at 8:20PM the place was over half full still. I suspect during the actual dinner rush you will have to wait if you want to dine in. Luckily they do takeout! Which is unlucky for my waistline, since I live in walking distance.

I've lived in this neighborhood for almost 10 years and just yesterday discovered this place. The staff is very courteous, the food is good, and reasonably priced. After one visit, I already prefer this restaurant over the nearby Pepitos, in that more care seems to be put into the food. Glad to have it nearby!

The food here is very satisfying if you feel like Mexican. Best things tried in the menu: shrimp tacos, Morelos nachos, and the fajita mix. The best sauces: the spicy green salsa with avocado chunks, and the queso sauce. The best surprise here was asking if they had chorizo and having the best I've ever had! Ask to sub chicken for chorizo on your fajita mix, thank me later! ;)

Outstanding authentic food and service! We don't mind the 45 min drive for this place! Prices and quality are great! Even had a special for $25 two fajitas and a bottle of wine! For sure our families 'go to' Mexican restaurant in the Cities.

This place is as big as my closet but the food more than makes up for it. The menu is small and easy to chose from. I went with enchiladas, which is weird because I never do; however, this day I had an itch for red enchilada sauce. So, how did they taste? Delicious. The beans and rice? Delicious. As for the staff, everyone who waited on me was very attentive and my drinks and chips/salsa never got lower than the halfway mark. Did I mentioned they brought out the special hot sauce from Abuelita's recipe? Hungry? Great, go eat there now, thank me later.

If any other Texans are looking for tex mex, here you go. They have fried ice cream fyi, and lots of seafood, and some vegetarian stuff. Also have lunch specials where you can choose multiple "entree" components if that makes sense. Lunch is $ and regular entrees are $$. Server was super nice. Jamaica came in a frosted mug :)

Great food! The chips are the best I have had and the salsa was delicious as well. Some heat which I love. Had the veggie fajita quesadilla and it was wonderful! Fresh pico de gallow and guacamole on the side. Vegetables were done perfectly. The last time I had this great of a Mexican meal was in San Diego years ago. Very clean establishment. Good service. This is a must stop if your in the area. We went after hiking the Minnehaha Falls. Don't let the small appearance of the outside scare you off. This is a gem!

SHRIMP TACOS! I have left the Twin Cities and am currently accepting my own self challenge of conquering this food city of Seattle. However, I have yet to find a shrimp taco that is so simple and delicious that I want to rub it all over my face every time I take a bite. I used to feel really cool taking my friends and family here because they would go from never hearing of it to being mind blown at the delicious flavors. I'm still on a quest for a shrimp taco that kicks Dominguez's ars.....the saga continues....

Beyond glad that we've found a good Mexican restaurant not far from home! I'm a California native who relocated to the Twin Cities from Los Angeles within the last year. The transition from not being able to get amazing Mexican food 24/7 was the most difficult part of the move BY FAR. My body needs burritos, tacos, and margaritas like it needs blood in its veins. Seriously! I don't often feel compelled to write a Yelp review, but the service and food at Dominguez were top notch. Walking through the doors, we were greeted by a super friendly lady who would turn out to be our server. We got seated right away, and ordered our margaritas (I had seen Dominguez on Yelp since we moved, but had held out on going because I heard they didn't have alcohol...so glad to see it's back!). The margaritas were y-u-m-m-y! We're vegetarians, so we ordered guac. and veggie quesadillas to start, and for our entree we ordered a veggie version of the fajitas. So much food, and all of it was absolutely delicious! After trying several other Mexican places in the Twin Cities, I was beginning to think that I'd never get good guacamole here...thank you for proving me wrong, Dominguez! The salsas were also quite tasty, even according to my spice-loving boyfriend. I can't say enough good things about our experience at Dominguez! Oh wait, there is one more thing. As we were about to walk out, I saw there was a container of mint patties for sale at the front. I'm a *sucker* for mint patties, but as we're a mostly debit card using couple, neither of us had the change to buy one. Our waitress magically appeared and told me that I could just have one, free of charge. WHAAAAA, I was touched! I know mint patties were only like 10 cents or something, but this made my night. I didn't mention this earlier in my review, but our basement had flooded that afternoon and we were both pretty exhausted and grumpy when we decided to try out Dominguez - but we left the restaurant, we were feeling very much the opposite! We will most definitely be back again, and again, and again!

The food was very good. It's a small place with friendly staff who are attentive without being overbearing. More on the casual side, but decent prices for the consistent quality (been there twice now, will go again soon). It's really good for what it is--a decent no-frills "ma 'n pa" restaurant. I didn't give it 5 stars because it lacked ambiance and no particular dish (so far) has crossed the line from very good to memorable. But I'll be going back for sure and will revise my rating as fits. Get the house Jamaica drink (hibiscus). It's super refreshing and comes in a large frosted mug. As the pic attests, I drank it all.

One of my comrades ordered cheese enchiladas and thought they were really good. My other comrade ordered a chili relleno and said it was very good. I ordered the tamales and thought they were dry. As usual, the beans and rice upped the salt intake dramatically so they were good for a taste but most of that went back to the disposer thingy. Cruise around the Powderhorn 'hood in August for Mexicans selling elote in the front yard. There's something special about it.

My husband I visited Dominguez Family Restaurant on Valentine's Day. It is in our neighborhood, and we had been meaning to try it. The interior was warmer, and cuter than I thought it might be based on it's small size. The staff did a great job and were clearly busy, being that it was Valentine's Day. I thought the prices were pretty spot on. I was glad that they served margaritas, despite not being listed on a menu. I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the carne asada mi pueblo. The tacos were pretty small, and I thought the side of beans and rice was a bit small considering what you usually get at a Mexican restaurant. I was satisfied after the meal, but could have eaten more. The tacos had good flavor. The carne asada mi pueblo came with fajita steak, a cheese enchilada, and a taco. That seemed to be enough food for my husband. I don't think either of us were blown away by the food, and I am left in search of a go-to Mexican restaurant in south Minneapolis. We might give it another try down the road, but I probably won't find myself recommending it to others.

Dominguez is back!!!! My husband and I have been eating here for about 5 years & used to be regulars (more like diehard fans). 3 years ago they lost their liquor license & the food really went downhill. No other place could ever live up to the old Dominguez. We still dropped in on occasion but it was never the same.... Until tonight!! Everything was excellent and back up to the old Dominguez standards. Chips & salsa rocked & the salsa verde was back to being seriously spicy! The costa taquitos with the steak are amazing. Nothing better than a margarita with the Mexican food I've been craving for the last 3 years! Hopefully it lasts, and if your first visit was in the last 3 years, give them another shot. You'll be glad you did.

Very cute, quaint spot, but unfortunately not impressed with the food. The server seemed new...he took our order, then asked us later if he could take our order. Then, he asked how our food was before we even received our plates. I would be willing to give them another chance, but I'm still pretty loyal to my Pepitos.

Good food, still working out some service kinks.I had the chorizo tacos, they were really excellent. My wife had tamales and a chili relino, also really great. Service was slow. Took about 20 minutes to get a drink order. Took equally long for someone to take our food order. Once the orders were taken it wasn't too bad.. but from the time we sat down to when we left, 1:45 minutes. Not good for a casual Mexican food place.

Delicious dinner. Stopped in here after reading a few reviews, and was rewarded with some great tasting dishes. The seating is pretty limited, probably about nine four-tops, but don't let that discourage you. Word from the table is that the margaritas were good. Mole sauce got a thumbs up, as did the guacamole. A tasty hole in the wall - try it!

Visiting here from Montana we decided to try this restaurant and I'm so glad we did, the service was the best yet on our vacation. I will be sure to stop in again on our next visit. Everyone was so friendly the moment we walked in and it was so refreshing to eat somewhere with great food and great service.

Review title: "Fajita Fein" The best fajitas on the Southside of Minneapolis. Quiet, small and low key

Visually, this place is adorable. I really want to give it 5 stars for that alone, but that does not a perfect restaurant make. So, the place is tiny and adorable. The service was wonderful, and they kept the chips, salsa, and waters coming. Still no liquor license, as people mentioned. I was totally bummed. I wanted a cerveza, bad. But, I lived. Someone else on here mentioned the salsa. You know, it wasn't bad. It did look like tomato sauce, and was no where NEAR amazing, but it got the job done. I ordered the 3 enchiladas with different sauces. It was just okay. The beef was Taco-Bell scary though. Eek. My husband got the chicken mole and it was amazing. Intricately flavored, smokey, sweet, spicy. It was delicious. The owner said that it is his grandmother's recipe (points for that endearing story) and that it is their most popular item. This place was so cute and they were all so nice, but honestly, I probably won't go back unless I am in the area.

I am not going to write the review I really want to to bash the place - the best way is to just never go again. But I did want to share a few things: The complimentary chips are warm, crisp and pretty delish. The red salsa they arrive with though is - well - a weird consistency and nothing to write home about. Be aware if you ask for hotter salsa they may or may not mention they charge extra for this. $2.50 for a very small dish but it does contain a nice green spiced salsa with avocado. The charge is for each little dish of it. The beef taco is as scary of meat as Taco Bell. Fajitas are good but overpriced for what you get. I have tried a variety of menu items but overall It's expensive for the value and to me not worth the quality. I had written the place off but received a gift card from a friend so visited tonight. Pretty much sealed the deal for me and my dining partner. With their recent liquor license it will keep them busy than very close competitors who do not. Drive a few blocks down to Las Teresitas for legit Mexican, all you can eat chips and salsa bar. No liquor license there though.

Love it. It's a tiny establishment that has decent Mexican food. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. The outside and inside decor is great. There was only a few other people there, which was a bit curious since their lunch specials are super cheap. For less than $6 I got an enchilada with rice and beans. The portions were not large, but really how many calories do I need to pack in for one meal? After eating a bunch of chips and salsa it was the right portion size so that I didn't leave feeling gross and bloated (which I have definitely experienced at other Mexi restaurants because there's too much food on one plate). The service was great. The waiter recommended that we try the green salsa. Yum. I judge Mexican restaurants by their rice and beans, and Dominguez gets an "A" for awesome. Will return again and again. Visit on a Sunday afternoon!

Delicious high quality Mexican food! I had the mixed fajitas with steak and chicken. Included were lots of onions and peppers. On the side was your typical sour cream, tomatoes and Guac. Very well seasoned, but the streak was a little well done, and the salsa could have been hotter. Only one type of hot sauce was sitting on the table when we sat down, it could be very possible there was more sauces to choose from in the back if I had asked. Prices were a little high, my fajitas were $18, but well worth it. Chicken was flawless and juicy, made up for the dry steak. Great place to go with your bb, for a mid tier price range/quality restaurant. Next upgrade over chilis and don Pablo's.

Delicious and well priced. My teenager daughter's favorite restaurant and she is impossible to please. A gem to have in the neighborhood.

I love Dominguez but... Don't get the fried tacos! Seriously, they are not a taco, they are tiny and have barely any filling, and are just not good!

Fabulous food! Great Molé Sauce. Fairly authentic. Will be back. Street parking unless the US Bank is closed then you can park in their lot. Serves wine, beer & alcohol.

This place was not good. The food was sub par and I have not been back since the last time. Overpriced and the salsa was like tomato sauce. They overcharged me also when I asked for a hotter salsa, they brought me out some, but did not tell me they were going to charge me. Most restaurants do not charge, or at least they tell you before hand so you can chose whether or not you'd like to buy it. Have not been back. Hated the food.

Decent but bland. That's been my thoughts the three times we've gone here. A lot of friends and people I know rave about them, but IMO its pretty dull and not spicy at all. Their tacos are about the only thing worth ordering. I had a combo of 3 different kinds of enchiladas and they all tasted the exact same. Drive the extra few blocks down to Las Teresitas, which is one of the best Mexican places in South Minneapolis now.

After an afternoon at Minnehaha Falls we left our dinner choice in the hands of the Yelp gods and they led us here. Upon arriving at the restaurant I was really excited and expecting supreme awesomeness. The dining room is deceptively large and far roomier than it appears from the outside. The chips and salsa were PHENOMENAL but the rest of out food was just ok. I ordered the chicken chimmichanga and my husband got an assortment of enchiladas. I thought the portions were undersized for the price. We'll give it another shot if we find ourselves in the area but will not make a special trip or anything.

Delicious. I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had chorizo, carnitas, and asado tacos and loved them. Also, ask for their green salsa, it is spicy and fantastic! The shrimp tacos came with a chipotle sauce on them that was smokey and pleasantly spicy. Mmmm mmm mmmm DELICIOUS!

I think Dominguez is either having some growing pains, or is in decline and about to close soon. Either way, the service has been exceedingly disappointing lately. 1. They no longer have a liquor license. They claimed at first that they forgot to order alcohol (puhleeze) then another employee admitted they lost their liquor license, and it has been ~2 months and still don't have it back. A beer with Mexican food is a big deal for many, and I hope they get this straightened out. 2. They now charge you $2.50 for a second basket of chips, regardless of the size of your party. We had a family of five there, (all paying for a meal, no splitting, etc), and came to find out after getting the bill that the second small basket of chips is $2.50!! It is utterly ridiculous that a Mexican restaurant would charge for chips and salsa for a table of five, and especially since they do it without telling you! 3. The chimichanga that my husband ordered was smaller and not so great the last 2 times we ate there. A little over fried and smaller, and at $10.25 a really poor value. I hope they fix these things, because they used to be great, but they are really jeopardizing their business if they continue this way.

This place has such potential. It is your typical hole in the wall Mexican place but while the atmosphere is there, it is missing some key components. Pluses: Chips and Salsa - Unbelievable Atmosphere - It feels like you are sitting in a restaurant in Mexico Wait Staff - I came here two or three times and the owner/waiter always greets me with a smile and remembers me Minuses: Margaritas - They are warm. They really need to wait a few minutes before serving them or find a new way to serve them Food - The food is ok, nothing great or spectacular All in all Dominguez isn't bad but it could be so much better!

Since I moved to the Twin Cities, I've been searching for good near authentic Mexican restaurants to satiate my cravings for my favorite Mexican place in Iowa. In my search, I've found two contenders. Dominguez restaurant being number 2. Dominguez has a great little family restaurant atmosphere. The host greats you and treats you like your family and the waitstaff is very friendly and prompt. The building is a little small as is the parking lot, but you can always park on the street around the restaurant. There red sauce (salsa) is absolutely delicious. It's a great blend of all the flavors I expect in a salsa blended smooth. There chips are wonderful too. My husband had the chimichangas and I had the tamales and both were flavorful. The tamales were perfect and both sauces (meat and queso) were delicious. My only complaint is that the portion sizes were a little smaller then most other restaurants.

I want to love this place. I do. However, there are some shortcomings that prevent me from giving this 4-stars. First, I should call out that I love the fact that I can walk to this place from my house. Super convient. When you see the restaurant from the outside, it looks a bit questionable. Make no mistake, it's a small Mexican restaurant with the same folks working no matter what day of the week or what time I've gone there. This fact actually makes the place quaint in my mind. They also have seating in the basement if you want to bring a group (I've never sat down there, I only know this as that is also where you'll find the restrooms). In regards to the food: I love (love) the chips and sauce that they drop by your table. The first time I tried the sauce (I don't call it salsa, as it's more like a red sauce), I didn't much care for it. But that has changed. The chips are great and the sauce is addicting. The last time I was there with my brother, I think we went through 3 baskets of chips and sauce alone! So why don't I give Dominguez 4 stars? Well, I've never really found a meal that I love. All of my friends talk about how great their tacos are. Eh. They're ok. I've tried numerous dishes on the menu - and while nothing has ever been bad, nothing jumps out at me that would absolutely make me come back if the place wasn't close to my house. Also, and this is a small point, everytime I've ever ordered a margarita, it's come to the table very warm (shudders, have you ever drank a warm margarita?) The margaritas are not homemade, rather, they're bottled and poured over ice. However, the bottles must not be refrigerated! As long as you know the trick of letting the ice cool down the drink, you're fine. :) Overall, I would recommend Dominguez if you live in the area or are looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try. The prices are resonable, the chips and sauce are fantastic, they serve me a good margarita and the food is ok.

We made our first of many visits tonight. The fish tacos rocked! The carne asada tacos were tasty, as well as the bean nachos. The guacamole was just right; if you find it a little on the mild side, ask for some green salsa to go with it. We all enjoyed our supper at Dominguez Restaurant, and have already planned our next visit.

Ok went for lunch this time, we are dealing with a a restaurant that is hitting all the right notes for me. How good was it, we almost went back the next day for dinner. We enjoyed both dishes we ordered, and will be making it back.

I love my little neighborhood Mexican restaurant! As a fellow small business owner (Twin Cities Green) I appreciate the owners' hard work, welcoming smiles, and attentiveness without smothering. The chips and salsa are wonderful and I always order the same meal - which I love. Tres Tacos! It looks like the Mexican flag! Love it.

I really like the owner, he's a sweet man and is attentive to his patron's needs. The service as a general rule is quite slow, but if you pretend you're in Mexico it's fine. The food is really hit or miss. The guac is bland, but the chips are delicious. The pico de gallo is yummy and spicy, the salsa is pretty middle of the road. I had enchaladas, and 2 out of three were delicious, but a little soggy. I'm sure I'll go back as I live very close, but it won't be my first choice for Mexican in Mpls.

Could very well be the best Mexican food in the Cities. High quality not greasy with complex sauces at reasonable prices for a normal sized portion! Gotta maintain the weight (:-D). The family running the place are delightful. We could come back here often.

Best mexican restaurant in Minneapolis that i've tried in the year i've been here. And I'm an authority on mexican food. Born & Raised in phoenix, az and super picky about mexican food. Everything that i've tried here so far has been really ooey-gooey gross. Not Dominguez!!! I've been here twice and plan to go many, many more times. They have great lunch specials, they allow substitutions. Both times i've gone, I was immediately seated and brought FRESH, warm chips and salsa. I've always ordered off the lunch menu, too. Why? The portions are just right. Not massive like I observed by the neighboring tables. After 3 PM (I think it's 3!), the lunch menu is $1 extra. Still, you will leave full & satisfied off of their lunch menu. Their vegetarian menu items are VERY good and very well thought out. At many mexican restaurants, veggie items are just a ton of cheese & refried beans. Not here. There are fresh, properly prepared & spiced vegetables. MMM!!!! And the best thing ever here.....Margaritas. They are truly amazing. Honestly, they are better than any margarita i've ever had, even in Arizona. They use LUCAS SALT on the rim, which is just absolute genius. I wish I had thought of it before! (FYI - lucas salt is like a sour lime salt). For the 2 lunch menu items after 3, 3 margaritas, and as much chips and salsa that you want, you'll spend less than $30, which I think is an AMAZING deal. I highly recommend this place and I think it's the most authentic i've had in the twin cities in my time here.

After being in California for a month this summer and eating all the authentic Mexican Tacos I could, I've been searching far and wide to replicate that experience in the Twin Cities. After some disappointing outings to other Taqerias in the area, I finally found what I was looking for at Dominguez. Granted, maybe they do carry a few sub-standard menu items to cater to the tastes of US customers, but if you order the right items you'll be totally wowed. The best meal they have is the #14, Taquitos Costas, which used corn tortillas rather than flour (a must!), tasty carne asada, and their avocado sauce is really second to none. I definitely recommend slopping it on. Heavy. Also, the chips always come fresh and the servers are very friendly.

I eat there as often as I can with my family. We love it there. My favorite is the number five. The staff is always nice and they give excellent service. I only wish the place was bigger because at night time the tables fill up fast.

I went here for the first time this weekend. It was good!! The chips and salsa were great and the nachos were awesome! Each chip is covered with toppings and fanned out on the plate. It's nice not having a pile of uncovered chips at the bottom of the plate. I had the taco platter and it was very simple but delicious. I also had a margarita which was decent. I think they use a pre-made mix and it might be better if they made them in house but the service was great and I will be back again. It was definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities that I have tried.

I don' t visit Dominguez as often as I'd like - others at home are not huge mexican food fans. This results in many daydreams about the lovely tacos at this restaurant. There is one taco meal that comes with something called avocado sauce. It is a much thinner consistency than guac and is spicy and delicious. A great compliment to the tasty steak, cilantros, and tortillas that I so love there. I would say the food I've had merits five stars, and the people are very nice. They have had troubles with beverages being out of stock (beer, wine) - and when I have a companion who doesn't always want to eat mexican food anyways, makes for a grumpy smurf. But, based on the food and friendly people, it is a great selection.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
