I work in the Lumber Exchange building and eat here at least once a week, if not more because my company orders from them sometimes too. I've the food and its all super spicy so if you don't like spicy use caution! Overall this is some of the best and most authentic Indian food you'll ever find. You won't find surprises like whole cardamom pods and cinnamon sticks in anything processed. Normally people complain about those things (ever bit into a cardamom pod by accident? OH MAN) but I see it as a mark of real food. My only complaint is the bony chicken. It can be a little hard to pick through sometimes. And I'm not a huge fan of the desserts. But other than that, this place never disappoints!

Food is incredibly flavorful, unfortunately, service is unacceptably slow and poor. Gave the restaurant another try as we had a Groupon. Food was amazing but took forever to get - over 30 minutes. They packed our leftovers and apparently did not pack the most expensive dish we had leftovers for. I really want to like this place but I'm not sure the long service times and hiccups, like being cheated out of my leftovers, is something I can overlook. Hopefully you have a better experience as I really like the food there.

First thing I should point out is that there is an entrance here. It's just hidden behind this thick giant pole that blocks and hides the doorway. So you kind of have to squeeze into this tight place to get inside. The server here is very quick to fill your drink to make sure it's always filled. It might be a little difficult to understand what they're saying, they talk really fast but hang in there. They have great recommendations. I got the dosa here and i've never had that before. When it came out I was surprised cause it was HUGE. It's like a giant crepe with a little potato paste in the center middle. Also comes with a little side of which you've choose from. I also got the tikki marsala and I felt like it just wasn't "fresh" I want to say. It didn't taste like they just made it.... :/ but, that could be just me.

Summary: - The building is hard to access - the food is average in flavor. Chicken was on the dry side - service was pretty good --- This place is nestled at the base if a street near the bars downtown. Parking was a little harder to find. We carpooled and parked in a garage that cost $4. The small restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, which I suppose is normal. My friends and I ordered three dishes and garlic naan. We asked for it to be made spicy but there wasn't any additional kick Chicken Tikka Masala: decent flavor but the chicken was dry Saag Paneer: spinach was solid and the cheese came in big curds. Not bad Lamb Vindaloo: dry lamb and bland sauce Garlic naan: very good. So overall, the meal will satisfy Indian cravings but it wasn't exciting. Make sure you get a groupon if you go. Additionally, both my friend and I fell sick shortly after the meal. Not sure if there's a correlation so I won't hold it against them.

Saturday, noon, 5 or 6 groups of people in the restaurant. They were talking in unfamiliar languages (Hindi?) smiling and helping themselves to the well stocked, beautiful buffet. This is the most authentic Indian food I've eaten outside of Birmingham ((UK) which has a large first generation Indian community. I've never been to India. Decent price for an all you can eat buffet. I've never been a fan of unboned meat so crunching the bones in the chicken Byriani was unpleasant. When I ordered a red wine, the staff asked for no further clarification. The glass of wine was fine, but nothing special. The waiter was charming. The more elderly gentleman who browsed the room was actually quite abrupt and rude, not acknowledging a tip I'd left for a self-service buffet. I'd definitely bring an Indian food fan here, especially someone who has visited India. But I wouldn't bring someone who hasn't already developed a taste for the authentic food.

Had the buffet today, maybe the food off the menu is better but I'll never be back to find out. Bland, watery, muddy looking and tasting sauces. Everything with meat had bone chunks in it, quinoa was dry and also basically tasteless.....everything just tasted watered down and thin. Nan bread wasn't terrible and water didn't taste like a Minneapolis sewer so I guess that's a plus, no idea how a place like this stays in business. I've had better Indian food at strip malls in the suburbs, so bad I left still hungry. If your stuck downtown save yourself some time\money and get your Indian food from one of the food trucks like Brava.

If a paying customer needs an extra "to go" box, give them an extra to go box. I don't think this is an odd or unfair request as we needed to double box our to go order to prevent liquid sauces from seeping through your cardboard boxes provided and even offered to pay an extra dollar for an extra box. I was literally shocked to be refused again and told that "the box would not leak." Hello? It's made out of paper of course it will leak. And guess what? It did! All over my car, Horrible customer service and I will go somewhere else that is not so petty about giving their customers an extra 25 cent box.

I was tempted to fill out a missing spice report as I got the vindaloo and it was pretty bland. I suppose it was a good thing it was so bland as the soda I got was horrible as well. I know, who complains about the soda, but how often does a place mess that up? I ordered a coke and got a flat pepsi to start my meal, I should have known what was to come. The samosas were decent, but the vindaloo came and as I looked at the tiny portion I was a bit apprehensive as I felt none of the usual spice wafting up and making my nose start to run already. Sure enough, I took a bite and the spice was no where to be found. This place would be good if it was half the price and at a building food court. But for a sit down restaurant that charges like one it is lacking. I think we had a groupon, but even with that, was still very disappointed.

Great food, good service. Small quantities ... I am pretty skeptical when it comes to Indian good in the US - it is usually a hit or miss. We were staying in a Hilton nearby, looked for a Groupon and dropped by this place. Appetizers - paneer tikka was awesome. Naans were simply to die for - one of the best I have tasted. So was the malai kofta and the rice. Where it loses a. Star is the portion sizes. $12 for Paneer tikka gets you 4 pieces of Paneer and 4 pieces of bell peppers - they were good, but definitely not worth the price.

I went in for the boxed lunch special and heard they had some decent south Indian cuisine. Though the servers were nice, but the food was pretty dry. I was disappointed that they didn't have as much of a variety of food as some of the North Indian buffets downtown.

Some dishes are really good, some are just okay. Depends on what you are having. Service is not that fast. Food is not much expensive, which is good. Location is nice. Staff is friendly.

Delicious. Particularly their Dosas. Tandoori Chicken was okay. Waiter warned that it was "very very spicy", but it wasn't even a little spicy.

Team Lunch!!! A really large group, about 12 people, arrived around 11:30ish on a Friday for lunch buffet. I had heard of Copper Pot and even tried their food before (catered event), but never made it to the restaurant. After what felt like a 10 hour trek, we made our way to the Lumber Exchange building and found the joint (street level and accessible via skyway). It's not huge inside, but there is a decent amount of space; our group of 12+ was a challenge to fit comfortably. Here's my simple breakdown... * Buffet - 3 stars * Service - 4 stars * Ambiance - 4 stars Now, as to why I gave 3 stars...well, there is more to Indian food than rice, chicken and vegetables. I will say the flavor profiles are spot on (we had someone from India visiting for work and called it #legit) and spice levels could be higher ('MN Spicy'). I was disappointed with the selection 3 chicken dishes, 3 rice dishes and the rest veggie; I'm not against veggies, I happen to love them. But when paying $13 for lunch buffet, I was expecting a slightly wider selection (where's the lamb people!!!). The final thing I'll add is the poor air circulation; it is an older building and during our experience it was HOT. We ended up propping open the door to the hallway to let in the cooler air. At the end of the day, food flavors are on point; but don't expect a wide selection and potentially a warmer than desired environment during the warmer days of summer.

Good Malai Kofta and excellent Punjabi Murgh Curry. Finally I had good malai kofta in the twin cities, gravy was quite good, kofte could have been better. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Murgh Curry. He said the chicken was fresh and the gravy was simple and oozing with a variety of flavours. Also, ordered a Paneer Kulcha and Plain Naan which I loved, they were perfect!! We had a groupon and it was definitely worth the money. This rating of 4 is good if you have a groupon or I would go with a 3 star as the portion sizes seem to be quite smaller for the price. Do not expect a lot out of the ambience or decor of the place. We would definitely be back to try their buffet.

I would be so happy. If there is an option where i could give no stars for review. What a worst and dirty restaurant and ambience. Taste sucks and quality is negative. Plz dont go to this restaurant and save your lives. They serve preserved food. I came to know that they use left over food from buffet for dinner. This is so unfair on customers money. I request you all to find any other good indian restaurant like persis, bawarchi, paradise and bombay bistro. They funny part here is even india palace quality is better than this poor copper pot restaurant. All the positive reviews written down here are written by the friends and relatives of the owner of copper pot. Dont even trust the buffet. Especially The raita is so bad that they preserve it For weeks. Finally go save your lives and get a life at good indian restaurant other than this copper pot.

If Indian food is what you seek, The outlook in the twin cities is quite bleak. But amongst the rabble, worry not, Stop your search, you've found Copper Pot! Bruce, the manager is really cool, He brings me food that makes me drool. Vegetarian, chicken, lamb or fish, Bruce will bring you almost anything you wish! Above all, I think their Dum Puck is the best, Delicious, creamy, I think Copper Pot is the greatest Indian in the MidWest!

Excellent excellent vegetable dum biriyani. Wish they open up in Houston too. Decent service. Food was over the top. I am on a business trip in Minneapolis and haven't tasted better Biriyani anywhere in the U.S. like what this place offers!! Definitely recommended.

I used to really like the food here. But last night I had a bad experience. Not only was the food delivered really late the food was not cpoked properly with some portions of the food tasting more salty than the others. When I told the owner he said that there was no way tjis can happen because either food can be salty or no salt at all. I asked him to send someone to taste it himself because I didnt eat it and ut is in the refrigerator. .he chickened out.

I don't normally type a review in the afternoon, when I'd rather be watching TV, or taking a nap. But I am eating leftovers and I am so happy that I wanted to show my gratitude by yelping this place while my face works on wolfing some mattar paneer and rice. Things to definitely get: Sunehri Bhindi ( In the vegetarian entree section, but get it as a appetizer) Mattar Paneer ( Not on the menu, but the best MP I've ever had) Things to NOT get: Gulab Jamun. it was hard, and weird- not good food adjectives. Ambience is great, and they have a wonderful Lassi menu to start things off on a good note. Good food really makes everything seem better, and we walked out of there very happy.

If I can give this place NO Stars to Negatives Stars I would. The food was good but the SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!! I didn't know Service like this would Exist. So a group of 3 of us went and we Never been here before and when we walked in we see huge platters and heated platters when you walk in at the doors. We weren't sure if they give us plates or where the plates were or How the buffet style works. So of course We asked the waitress and "how does your buffet here work here, where are the plates, We Never been here before?' The waitress looked at all of us like we were dumb and didn't really answer our Question. Then we keep eating and our cup NEVER got filled with WATER OR SODA. The waitress and Managers walked passed us like 20 times, it was so many times that they could of just turned their heads and asked us how we were doing BUT NEVER DID!! At the time we went It WASN'T EVEN BUSY!!!! I can Understand if it was busy but it was NOT!! The thing that Pissed us off the most about this place was when we got up to go pay I realized that MY Group was The only ones NOT INDIAN, Everyone else in that Restaurant was Indian BUT US. As I looked at the other tables, EVERY SINGLE OtHER CUP BUT OURS WERE NOT FILLED WITH WATER or BEVERAGE. Some Tables EVEN got Water Pitcher and we didn't. That was Racist to have taken Care of all the Indian people and Not the ones that are different color. Don't get me wrong but we Were polite and Not even Rude, I can see if we were rude and then they have more of a right to treat us like that. I'm also a good Tipper as well, Starts at $20.00 and goes down as service gets crappier to $0.00. I did Not Tip it was that bad. I work for my tips everyday so I know what good Service is when I see it.

Pretty decent food was spoiled by terrible service. Our party of three arrived at 6:45 with no reservation and all the tables were taken. 25 minute wait? No problem. We went to the bar where we... were ignored. No water, drinks, anything. After 10 minutes we managed to flag someone down to get some water and menus. Soon thereafter, the place cleared out form all the people going to 7:00pm concerts. Despite four open tables, we still weren't seated for another 10 minutes. The rest of the night went downhill from there: ...no napkins (until we asked) ...couldn't look up my Groupon using my name, despite what Groupon says ...forgot my drink order ...gave the table of two our menus while we were in the middle of ordering ...they also received their food before us ...ran out of rice and water without any refills ...never came to check on us to see how things were going It'd be easy to say they were understaffed, which they were, but the place was half empty. Our server was clearly stressed and in a bad mood, but the poor service was really distracting from what should have - could have - been a lovely meal. What's worse, this restaurant could be making more money if they paid better attention to their customers.

Copper Pot is a nice choice for a quiet dinner, conveniently located near the Warehouse Station on the Blue Line. Just don't go too late - when we arrived at 9:45 on a Saturday night, the waiter frowned and looked at his watch, even though they're supposed to be open until 10:30. During our whole meal, the staff was busily setting up the buffet for the next day. Overall, the service was a bit curt. The food was fine. The fiery lamb Vindaloo was generously sized and came with a bowl of Basmati rice. Order a side of nan - it's served with a pair of fresh-tasting dipping sauces. Great freshly grilled bread comes with the meal. Restaurant was out of the salad when we visited.

Bought a Groupon for this place since the location is close to me and i've never had it before. We decided to go for a team lunch and have the buffet. Food was ok - 3 stars. Bombay Bistro is much better. The ambiance was fine. The server was nice until it was time to pay and I pulled out my Groupon. His tone changed and he said I couldn't use the Groupon at lunch (which it didn't say ANYWHERE on the Groupon). Begrudgingly, he said he'd take it this ONE time. Then he proceeded to tell me I couldn't pay for the rest of the bill on my credit card. It had to be more that $10 to be on a credit card. Again.. nowhere does it say that. Needless to say, I was super annoyed. I don't get why restaurants get annoyed when you use a Groupon?? Isn't that what it's for? To get new customers/existing customers in the door and make them repeat/loyal customers? Jeesh. Never again will I step into this restaurant. I'll stick to Bombay Bistro and Ghorka Palace. What a disappointment.

I'm not a very picky eater but I was thoroughly disappointed with the lunch buffet. Compared to other lunch buffets, I found their buffet selection to be incredibly lackluster. In addition to the selection, some of the items were very foul tasting which was incredibly off-putting. The chicken pieces are very small and comprised of 90% bone which is challenging to eat. The chicken was also under-cooked and made my co-worker ill. I can't find anything positive to say about this place and strongly urge anyone considering going here to look elsewhere.

Ambiance - good Food presentation - good Food taste - average to good Staff attention - good Cocktail selections - good Overall I give this place a 3 star because what makes a restaurant really good is the quality of food. The curry sauce for the food items at this place is excellent, but it totally missed in the content in the curry. The chicken was a bit too tough and kofta was too hard. It seemed like they over cooked the chicken and over fried the kofta. We also got the samosas for appetizer and that was very good. I would recommend going to place because I think it worth trying a few more items. I will be going back to do just that in the future. The dishes we had are thsese: samosa, andhra chicken and malai kofta.

Good food, limited portions , quite slow but good service . The wait time for large groups is a concern. But they compensate for it by their service. Their indian Chinese tastes fine. You won't be disappointed trying this place.

Another Indian restaurant to throw its hat into the ever expanding list, ok I'll bite. It's a good enough reason to check it out and try a new Indian restaurant, plus it's just a short walk from work. It's Indian food, who can say no to that. So far I have only ventured out there for their lunch buffet. They have quite the elaborate spread with lots of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. They usually have a few apps, 3-4 rice options, quite a few veggie entrees and 2-3 chicken dishes. The one thing that they do differently for this lunch buffet is the fact that they make fresh naan and they bring it out to your table, so it's made to order versus just sitting on the buffet line getting cold, which is a big plus in my book. The food is tasty and the price is similar to that of other Indian buffets. There is an adequate amount of space but that all fills up really fast during the lunch rush hour. Word of advice is to get there before noon so you can safely claim your space. The staff is friendly and attentive. To me the décor was that of a typical Indian restaurant, nothing out of the blue that caught my eye of being different. If you are in the area and craving some Indian food, I would recommend giving this place a try.

My buddy and I took our monthly tour of new restaurants of Minneapolis. We often spend our time laughing our butts off during these awesome lunch breaks. They are a great Friday break to discuss work, life, and general well being. I have wanted to try out the Copper Pot for about 3 months now. We took the mile and a half trek through the skyways of Minneapolis and ended up in this cool Indian restaurant with a full bar. (Stupid 12 PM, no beer allowed) So we just got the buffet. The copper pot vessels that held the meals were a pleasant surprise, but they were full of veggie plates. Now I am not a big nay sayer of vegetarian dishes, but on a buffet, I want meat. The meats they had were all three chicken dishes. Now I don't want to say they are being cheap by just putting chicken, but they are. I want at least one goat dish at my Indian Buffet, I mean c'mon. They are charging $12 a pop, this is 2 bucks more than most Indian buffets in the city and not one goat dish?! Goat is why you go to an Indian buffet! The chicken dishes were pretty good, but way not spicy enough. Plus I didn't see a daal platter available. Daal is the perfect lentil side that you can scoop on the naan bread that makes it perfect! They brought out an order of naan, which was the best naan I have had in the cities. Crispy, yet doughy. They only gave us one order though, I would have gave them 4 stars if they constantly offered us a refill of the naan, it was that good. The mushroom dish was great, and the chicken kabob and chicken curry were good, but very buffet like. I want some super special stuff for a $12 buffet. The soup they had out was amazing, but if the threw in chicken chunks, it would make it the best soup of all time. The service was great, good guys, but for a buffet, I want free Diet Coke. What, it costs them 5 cents a glass? This place would have been 4 stars except they didn't refill our naan, no free Diet Coke, no Goat, no refill on naan (I know I said this twice, but that is huge!) The food they had was pretty good, not spicy enough at all, at least have one spicy dish, cool atmosphere. Probably won't be back here again though. The no refill of naan was huge for us. At least ask us if we want it. It just seems like they were trying to do things on the cheap with no goat on the menu.

OMG the food quality is horrible. The quantity is absurd. The dosa was cold as frozen, bland coconut chutney and sambar. The samosas were served as if they were doing a favor to customers. They were horrible ready made packet cut samosas fried in oil, atleast they couldn't do the frying job in a better way, roasted from outside and just warm inside. Coming to the biryani, I guess its better not to comment on it, potatoes were like starch paste in some mirchi water. It was extra super spicy which made the whole dish a dumb idiotic plate of trash. Investing on such a place for a diner is hilarious, never ever step into it. Generally never I give a review in this way, I do find a reason to appreciate a place but then first time my stay in US the most disgusting food I had. I am really sorry for the management. Poor staff and the chef must be ridiculous.

I went for lunch and it was really crowded - thinking, ok this must be the spot. I think they have some prime real estate which is the only reason they could have been busy. The service was terrible! Indian people are typically so kind of hospitable, the staff there was way too busy to care what was going on with me or my meal. I had to get up to ask for water. I had to ask to pay before leaving - which I had to go to the counter to do. The lunch buffet was sub par and half everything was out - it was 12:15pm - keep it stocked if you are going to do a buffet. The one redeeming factor was the Aloo Gobi - that was pretty good. Other than that, I did not like the food.

The Copper Pot is a real source of frustration for me. I work a couple of blocks from CP, and my colleagues and I started going for lunch shortly after it opened. At the time, it was great - the lunch buffet had a wide array of delicious choices and the place was, deservedly, packed. The service was always a little lacking but it was worth it. Over time, it got much worse. Within several months of opening, the only proteins available at lunch were various chicken dishes. This was still true when I went back to CP today. For reasons I will never understand, they serve cut-up pieces of chicken, complete with bones. The upshot is golf ball-sized pieces, each of which is seemingly 90% bone, 5% cartilage, and 5% meat. They are tricky to eat and there is never a guarantee you won't get a tiny shard of bone in your mouth. Yuck. It's frustrating because the flavor is good, but this is no way to eat chicken and unacceptable when there are so few other options available. My experiences with their prepared entrees at dinner have been very positive, hence my 3-star review overall. I would give this place 1 1/2 stars for lunch, and 3 1/2 or 4 stars for dinner. If they would return to their original setup for lunch, I'd be back there in a heartbeat.

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in town.. As a picky Indian food eater, i enjoy going to copper pot, both for their Lunch Buffet and for Dinner. Dinner service is excellent and i love their happy hour specials. The Lunch spread is great.. Plenty of options and i do like that they have yoghurt rice every once in a while. I once took my Mom there for her birthday and they treated her like a queen. That made it very special.

Food was excellent. Naan was fresh. Samosa great. Clay oven Biryani was delicious. Saag was ver flavorful. The grill platter was very good but could have done without the piece of grilled fish. The grilled chicken was great. The wait staff were polite and attentive but very quiet and need to practice smiling more.

I went to Copper Pot Indian Grill on a Sunday buffet. There was ample choice of food, even for vegetarians, including south Indian dishes. All the menu items on the buffet were tasty and there servers were good, although we had to look to a server at times, to get his attention. The look and feel of the restaurant isn't awesome, but good nonetheless. There were lot of people in the restaurant and in some tables it was cramped to sit, but the servers ensured to ask people if they were comfortable, or if they could reconfigure to best suit the size of party. Definitely worth another visit.

This is an extremely good Indian restaurant with some fantastic food and a great service. Very few Indian restaurants have localized cuisines where food from a local part of India is featured. The Copper Pot Indian Grill has many such dishes right from the Jodhpur chicken to the Hyderbadi dum biriyani to the fish varuval. I went there back-to-back nights and thoroughly enjoyed both times. On the first night, we had the palak saag, the motta parrotta (which is a an extremely good street food comfort in South India), the goat dum biriyani (in a proper dum no less!) and kadai chicken. During the second night, we arrived more in a number after walking out of Bombay Bistro because of lousy service. Copper Pot immediately accommodated us. There were more dums, more saag, fish varuval and lamb pepper fry that were consumed. Everything was delicious with special care taken to manage the spice level of a large multicultural group with 3 Indians! And because we came back, we got a free plate of carrot halwa as dessert.

I ate here for my 40th birthday. I had the Saag Paneer and a glass of Riesling. The Saag was wonderful and fresh. The service was prompt and friendly. However, I was here on a Sunday afternoon and the downtown area was pretty dead. I am not sure how this place would be on a busy night, but I will come back here because the service was friendly and the food was fab. (It's also walking distance to Kieran's if you want to go people watch after your meal!)

This is definitely a buffet I will go back to if have to go to an Indian buffet. Like others have mentioned, Copper Pot has a different line up of foods from the average Indian restaurant buffets. There are several vegetarian choices, and, most importantly, almost all are dairy-free. It is typical of Indian restaurants to make cream sauces for almost all buffet offerings, from malai kofta to mushroom matar to daal makhani. The food was good but didn't blow me away with its taste. The Sunday buffet for $14 offered a huge number of items, including many appetizer-snack-like items. There was a chicken biryani as well as a goat biryani. The fish items were a pleasant surpise, very unusual in Indian buffets in the Twin Cities. There was a fish fry in a spicy batter and a mild tasting fish curry. Dessert too did not consist of the usual rice pudding and gulab jamun, and was thoughtfully served in small individual bowls. The ambiance is loud and somewhat generic. This is a very welcome addition to the Indian restaurant buffet selections in the Twin Cities.

Surprised that the rating are high. Went here for my birthday with friends and was treated poorly. Took an hour to receive food, and were belittled because we were college students. Our server either was having a bad day, or simply didn't care to entertain students. He even started yelling at us at one point. The food was overpriced. I would recommend going to an Indian restaurant that serves all people with respect. The Taste of India is still my favorite (located in st.louis park)

Typically I feel absolutely disgusting after chowing down on Indian food. Not sure if it is the heavy ghee or salt content of Americanized Indian food that does it to me but it always happens... until I ate at Copper Pot....and, trust me, I still pigged out just as much as ever and probably deserved a bout of nausea afterwards. Not only did I escape the unpleasant after effects but I was treated to some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The food here was absolutely delicious!!! The food was so good that I am willing to overlook the very under-trained and seemingly discombobulated (yet pleasant) staff that would generally call for a subtraction of one star from five to four. I am even willing to forgive for the naan that was much crispier than it ought be especially when I was craving its warmth and softness to sop up chicken tikka goodness. While less impressive than the food, the alcoholic beverages are still noteworthy and the prices are fair. I ordered the Bangalore (raspberry vodka and champagne) and this was, much to my surprise, a well-mixed drink. The atmosphere is fairly generic but did offer and warm and cozy retreat from the falling snow and frigid air. I will definitely return.

Their lunch buffet has so much to offer and provides so many reasons to help you satisfy your craving for the Indian food. This was my 10th visit to this place and the food never disappoints. My friends who visited this place for the first time were so much content with the offerings as well especially Chicken Biriyani and Pepper Chicken. Don't miss the Meetha Paan - though it's nothing like India.

Who doesn't love a buffet? Having the ability to stuff myself silly with anything that gets my attention is always fun. The lunch buffet offers a variety of vegetarian and carnivore options in many different flavors. You have to try the blueberry fried cauliflower. No, seriously, it's really freaking good! Who thought of that combination? In addition to that dish, my favorites included the fried zucchini/green peppers, the fried rice, and the Indian version of lo mein. They have the traditional soups, curried chicken dishes, and desserts. The tapioca pudding was yum. It's really crowded in the restaurant as the tables are squished close together. By noon nearly every table was full but they had a couple of window and bar seats available. Because it's a buffet, know that you might see a server just once in the beginning to ask if you want a beverage. But when you're filling your face with unlimited fried deliciousness, does it really matter? For less than $12, Copper Pot's buffet is worth checking out.

A friend back home gave me the recommend, we share our experiences, he told me this was his current favorite place for Indian in the cities. I really liked it, could give it 4.5 stars. We had Naan, samosa, off the menu they made Chicken Makhani, Bagara Baigan, Lamb Vindaloo and a few drinks. All the food was really good! Really liked the Eggplant dish, just flavorful, liked that best (all were great though). Vindaloo was nice and spice, no bones in the meat, great sauce. Naan were fresh, had that slight crisp but softness to them, and the rice accompaniment we thought was good. And we also liked that they let us order the chicken Makhni, since it was not on the menu. That sort of ability to make things off menu is good to me, means the kitchen knows what it is up to. Service for us was also really great. I think the main host or owner sat us, he was attentive, drinks came quickly, and other servers came by to check on water, so really I thought it was good. They were not yet packed, maybe half full, but it was getting busy as we left. We liked the decor, but we are from rochester, so we are easily impressed :-) Definitely will go back.

Holy Cow!!!! They have tomoto in their biryani....I never see a tomoto in Biryani and I had Hyderabadi chilli chicken as appetizer thats not even indian chilli chicken. They took a while to get the food even though it's not really crowded. If you want to each some good indian food don't even think about this resturant. I am not gonna suggest this resturant for Indian food lovers. I gave only one star because they server food.

First visit last night. Southern Indian food. A little slow on the service, but genuine. Curry sauces were great. Lot's of meat and veggie option and many new tastes for me. Will come back for the lunch buffet to try more items.

Had the lamb vindaloo and vegetable and the navrathan korma. First, the lamb - if this is lamb then I'm the pope. This was the cheapest cut of shoulder of beef that I've ever had. It was so dry and chewy, despite being drowned in sauce, that you could barely masticate one piece of it and prey that you could get it past the esophagus when it was swallowed - and let me tell you, regret followed. The korma, on the other hand, was 80% sauce and nary a vegetable - as if the few frozen pre-cut sysco prison food was so expensive they couldn't imagine adding any more to the $14 dish. Theoretically, a decent restaurant's food cost is about 30% of the price of the dish - this restaurant has brought it down to about 5%. Good job, guys. Hope the customers don't notice. And for the record, I've lived on "curryy alley" in NYC and have eaten high quality indian fare everywhere from London to San Francisco. The copper pot in this case must have been the chamber pot.

Best Indian food in the cities, hands down... That being said, I like several Indian places in the cities, but the flavors at copper pot are more complex and subtle. Not only that, but it's a non-chain and every person we've dealt with there seemed to legitimately care about the business and their customers. I could go on about the food, but I'd really say just give it a try. We've had the Saturday grand buffet and dinner, and both were great. We tried the Andhra chicken and lamb biryani but it looks like you can't go wrong with the menu. Even if you do go wrong, the place is very reasonably priced.

I'm truly surprised at the positive reviews for this restaurant. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I've eaten at the Copper Pot twice, both times at the lunch buffet. I can't comment on much, because in both of my meals there were multiple shards of chicken bone (5+ shards of 1/2 inch or longer each). The first time, I figured it was a fluke and was willing to try again. But the second time? I'm out.

Great Indian cooking!!! This place puts out excellently prepared dishes. Had aloo gobi for our curry vegetable entree. For meat entrees, the Punjabi chicken curry and lamb biryani. All were nice and spicey, good size serving for the price, our service was very attentive and professional. I wish I lived here so I could enjoy the food more often. I've eaten Indian food in India, Singapore, London, NYC, San Francisco, etc., none of those have anything on this place. Can't wait to come here again.

Very interesting variety of items that are not commonly found in Twin Cities Indian menus.

Had the lunch buffet which offers a limited selection. They had 3 different chicken dishes with pieces of chicken that were mostly bone and under cooked. My coworker had a piece that still had blood in it. The buffet also seemed as though they just picked the dishes at random and threw them out there. One third of their food was OK and two thirds was plain bad. Go to Bombay Bistro instead. It has a larger variety and much higher quality.

yummy. we noticed that there were several indian people eating here so that was a very good sign. it was spicier than the americanized indian restaurants that i've been to before. we ate vegetarian that night and it was delicious. at one point or another, each of the staff had helped out to assist our table when they saw that we may need anything, which was nice. the staff was friendly and seemed to know about the food that they were serving. we would definately return to this restaurant. Thank You Copper Pot!

Food was tasty and the spice level was good for a nostalgic Indian, BUT considering the size of the servings the place is too damn expensive. I ordered samosas and paneer tikka. It was expensive and the serving size was very tiny even by Indian standards.

I spent a month in India and love Indian food. Got copper pot for dinner on bite squad. Really exceptional flavors, in fact some aspects seemed quite elevated and somewhat unique in a good way. I gave it 5 stars based on the fact that it's by far the best Indian food I've had in the Cities - granted this is just based on tasting three dishes...so your results may vary.

This is definitely NOT true Hyderabadi biryani! It is mediocre at best. Rest of the buffet is just ok. Bombay Bistro still has a better buffet selection and better biryani (but not authentic Hyderabadi)

I show up at every new Indian Restaurant that pops up in the Twin Cities so no wonder I ended up at Copper Pot soon after it opened. Their food was mediocre compared to other Indian food I've had in the area. I think the best one was Chicken Tikka Masala. They had very interesting cocktails with an Indian twist so those were fun to try. The drinks were good and pretty strong but a bit spendy. The ambiance is fine. They have big decorative copper pots to go with the name. It is dimly lit but I wish it was just a tad bit brighter because I like to take a good look at what I am eating. Overall it was decent Indian food at slightly high prices (probably because of the location).

Just love this place. The lunch buffet and the dinner menu. Close to authentic indian food that keeps me wanting for more. This place has some really varied selection of food from the indian palate.

Had the buffet. Awful. Service was very poor. They weren't even busy. 1 star is 3/4 too much.

One of the better Indian restaurants I have been to. Ambience is very nice and staff efficient and courteous. We had Gobhi manchurian and chicken 65 as appetizers and both were very good. had chana masal which was good, Palak paneer was excellent and Achari chicken also very good. Best part was food was neither too oily or too spicy. Pudna paratha was excellent and Kulcha was goodbut not very crisp.Cocktails with Indian twist were avaialble and Bombay martini drink with ginger was excellent. Will definitely revisit and try the biryani which according to the owner is their best dish.

I try Indian places when I travel. The copper pot is one of the better ones over the last 3 years. Priced A bit high for portion size but reasonable overall. Worth a stop especially if you're staying downtown.

I travel extensively with my job which gives me the opportunity to try many restaurants. Yesterday I was in Minneapolis and went for a lunch walk from hotel in search of food. I stumbled upon this GEM of a spot ! I did not look at the reviews beforehand and glad I didn't and gave it a try.........Wow, this was perhaps some of the best Indian food I have had in a long time ! I thoroughly enjoyed every bite along with all they offered on the buffet. The service I had was good, the place was clean,.........and the food.....well it was amazing ! I'm sitting in my Dallas hotel now craving for more. I'm writing this after looking at the reviews this morning and was taken back by some of the negatives I have read. Some places are hit n miss....... and if this was the case........ I was there on a hit ! I will be in Minneapolis next week and will go again and hope that it will be another hit ! Perhaps some of these negative reviews came from those same people who will pay 20.00 for a marginal smidgen of a salad from Whole Paychecks, and think that store is the bomb !.........just saying...............

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I really did. I decided to stop in here to try their lunch buffet this afternoon. The first thing that I noticed when I walked into Copper Pot was how elegant the decor was. It was sophisticated and stylish, and used warm colors and woods to draw you in. Sadly, the taste stopped at aesthetics. It didn't carry on to their food. The selection of their buffet was small (9 items if I remember correctly), and a large number of them were vegetable based. The flavors seemed to be a little bland when compared to other Indian restaurants in the downtown area. The Chicken Biryani and the Naan were the best things that they had in their lineup. With those faults, i would normally give the place a 3 star review. However the service there was also quite poor. I was sat, and never asked for a drink order. 15 minutes they brought me a glass of water. 20 minutes into my meal (around the end of the first plate) they decided to bring out Naan, after I had asked why other tables were getting it as they were being sat. I finished my water and was never asked if I wanted a refill, until after I had already paid my tab. Given the number of high quality Indian restaurants around downtown, Copper Pot really needs to step up their game if they hope to survive.

best indian food in minneapolis that we've found. The lamb vindiloo was excellent. the meat was tender and not gamey which is common poblem with lamb. The regular spice level was actually nice and spicy. I usually have to order it "hot" to get it spicy enough at other restaurants. You can tell the dishes executed at a higher level than other places in town- the well balanced flavors and high quality protein, it's worth every penny. we'll be back to the copper pot for sure.

This is a relatively new place which opened in 2012. The location of this place is slightly shady as compared to general downtown (next to train station on Hennepin) but the quality of the food more than makes up for the location. There have been several restaurants in the same location in the past, however nothing lasted for long. The foot fall in this area, during evenings, is mostly young party crowd. I don't believe that they have any parking here, nor are they connected to the skyway, which is a major negative as you don't want to walk on the streets around this restaurant for very long. Coming to the food, I will focus on their lunch buffet. The food is excellent, the spread is large. They have a great assortment of curries, biryanis (flavored rice), noodles, chicken chilli, fish cutlets, freshly made dosas (crepes) etc. They also have some sweets etc. The price is very reasonable for a buffet (around 13-14 ish if I recall correctly). I don't think they have dinner buffets. Their dinner menu is definitely expensive and I think it is not a good value for money for the quality/ quantity of the food. The waiters here are very friendly. They have a great bar. Rating thought process: Food: 2/2 Stars Value for money: 1/1 Star Parking and location: 0.5/1 Star Ambiance, Bar and Waiters: 0.5/1 Star

went here bc my fiance and i had a groupon. we werent expecting much as we are not that big into indian food but we were pleasantly surprised. we liked everything we ordered. Naan bread was crispy, chewy and delicious. the chicken and prawn curry dishes (andhra chicken & Mangalorean Prawn Dish) were wonderful! great flavors. they pair both dishes w/ probably the best basmati rice i've ever had. would def buy another groupon or go back w/out one. only thing is it's located in downtown mpls, no valet. kind of inconvenient.

Great food and service. I was very impressed, the location is not ideal, but the food is all incredible. Try the balti lamb and chicken tikka.

Good buffet - everything is maintained fresh in copper pots (hence the name - go figure!). They even have dosas made fresh like at a hotel buffet. I'd say the fish curry is a little mediocre, but definitely go for the curd rice - it's excellent. For dinner: slow service but a great variety of dishes from all over the subcontinent and overall quite good. Usually, variety means a downer, but here everything is actually made well and they don't hold back on the spice. FYI the Hyderabadi biryani is very spicy be warned! Chicken tikka masala, kebabs, and lamb (all kebabs, you can't go wrong and Dum Puck) are excellent. I enjoyed the Palak Paneer and Bukhara (dal makhani) out of the vegetarian dishes - buttery and succulent.

Stopped in for the lunch buffet and will definitely be back. I usually don't like buffet anything but Copper Pot stands out. They have a good mix of veggie and meat options and true indian spice and flavor. The staff is very friendly, attentive and took the time to explain all the ingredients in the buffet. Very cozy, warm atmosphere. Gandhi Mahal is still my favorite Indian restaurant in the twin cities, but Copper Pot is close second and since they are located in the heart of downtown will be my lunch time go-to.

I think it's probably among the best Indian restaurant in MSP just like Bombay Bistro & certainly better than the much talked about Persis. We had both veg & non-veg and loved both.. Simple thing as the Masala Papad that no other Indian restaurant in MSP could make properly was enough to differentiate them.. So was their Baingan Bharta & Bhindi Masala.. And the Chilli Kulchas.. But the best was their Chicken Lollypop & Goat Curry

This must be about our forth time having an early Friday dinner @ the Copper Pot. We put up with the kind of grumpy server, the plain, slightly run-down decor because we really like the food. Tonight my partner & I both had fairly spicy , creamy chicken dishes with rice -they were both delicious (mine was kind of cashew flavored- i liked it even more) & we had naan too -could have skipped the rather overcooked vegetarian samosas but by the end of the meal we were very satisfied by the yummy chicken dishes. Almost every spicy dish we've had at Copper Pot has been delicious. Props to the chef. Let's hope the front of house staff cheer up a bit so that the whole experience starts to match the best of the food. Then it would rate a four or even a five star experience. Plus the location on Hennepin Ave right beside the Light Rail is super-convenient for viewing that subtle mix of hard core Hennepin street walkers and Twins-game suburbia gawkers.

While the food at the Copper Pot was pretty good, I was underwhelmed with the atmosphere provided. The Copper Pot is located near the warehouse district in downtown Minneapolis. The decor they have selected was very minimalist and there was almost nothing on the walls. The result of this, was that a moderately busy night cause the place to be very loud and hard to converse with those sitting at my table. There was no double doors or curtain blocking the main door on the corner, so every time the door opened, a gust of frigid air blew through the restaurant. The drink menu and beer selections were very underwhelming. Being scared off from both of these, I ordered a mixed drink and found it to be lacking as well.

The veggie biryani is incredible and the service is very friendly. We ordered some interesting and fun cocktails to start out and the atmosphere was relaxing and conducive to conversation. The only reason I won't give a perfect score is that if I was in a hurry or needed to get somewhere after dinner I would have missed it because the service is a tad slow. I won't complain though because we were in no hurry and loved the food, drinks and atmosphere. Go here!

Appealing decor, good food. We enjoyed the onion kulcha, tikka masala and chicken korma. They brought a nice appetizer/ bread with 2 tasty sauces. The service was very good at the start, but a bit slower later as the restaurant got busy. We plan to return, and to check out the lunch buffet.

I was here for lunch buffet, food was awesome every time . We love this place. The only restaurant in twin cities with perfect Indian food. They make real hyderabadi Chicken dum Biriyani.

Don't know why this place does not have better reviews on yelp . Went for the lunch buffet , very large selection of food. Excellent chat station ( with Ragda patties, dosas made in front of you ). Menu seems to have a south Indian touch to it, had beet poriyal and other items . Very large vegetarian selection. Husband impressed with the meat items. Excellent service. Very nice ambience and buffet presentation. Very accessible by light rail and has nearby parking lots. One limitation might be that the dessert selection was rather limited, however I think that goes for all Indian restaurants in town.

We dined here on a Saturday night after making a reservation on opentable. The first warning sign was the lack of any sort of reception or hostess stand at the front of the restaurant. Every employee was a hostess, bartender, waiter and busboy. We were seated rudely without any introduction and waited over fifteen minutes for menus. No water service, rushed ordering and very unknowledgeable about the food. Again, we waited over an hour to get our main course. It was beyond ridiculous. The food was decent Indian food but not worth the trouble and highly, highly deplorable service. We will not return.

Just finished dining and am saddened by the mediocre score on yelp. It was a delightful dinner; the service was EXCEPTIONAL, very attentive and kind. I wholeheartedly disagree with the reviewer who claimed unsanitary conditions; fresh plates and silverware were provided between meals and the table was also wiped clean. As for the food, it was delicious. We started with a goat pattie starter which was perfectly seasoned and the flavors continued into our main course. Definitely a must try.
