Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Almost every burger is rich in sodium content and it is highly recommended to keep your burger cravings in control while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for Diabetics:

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

If you are a diabetic, you should also avoid Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich and Whataburger Patty Melt at Whataburger. Chicken Fajita Taco is also off-limits for diabetics. You must also avoid Breakfast Platter and Pancake Platter from the menu. Pancakes and Cinnamon Roll from the breakfast menu are also off-limits for diabetics.

High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Oh b-loco how I love thee. Since leaving college and the cities b-loco and their delicious burritos is probably the place I miss most. Their burritos can't be beat I love them all buffalo chicken, bbq chicken or steak. Their quesadillas are also very good and their happy hour specials are a steal. which gets me to their night life. B-loco is much more low key compared to the other bars in the area which is really nice. You can go chill with friends yet meet people as well. Their ladies night get packed but otherwise you are able to walk pretty comfortably in b loco. They make good drinks at a reasonable price and have a good beer selection. In summer their patio is killer and a great way to waste a beautiful summer day to pitcher of beer.

Burito Loco has been around Dinkytown for a while now. They first opened in the unlucky back space of the Dinkydale. They made a go of it there, needed to expand and moved to this unlucky restaurant space. Now they've removed the curse that was following this location, too. So good job, guys. This place is like a couple of students from the Carlson School of Management went into Chipotle and thought, "yeah we could do this." So they did. Their menu and decor are suspiciously close to that chain, but they've added booze and a more collegiate atmosphere. They also deserve props because they are open until 3 a.m. on the week-ends. Wow. Outside of a Perkins that is about the latest (or earliest?) meal your going to get in Minneapolis.

In Minneapolis, you might find yourself in the Chipotle Vs. BLoco debate. Chipotle wins when it comes to the burrito. However, Burrito Loco has great drink specials. Beware of the $5 margarita pitchers: pure sugar, no booze=leaves you with an extreme gut rut. It's located right in Dinkytown so it's packed with the U of M crowd, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. They have a couple pool tables as well as a beer pong table. Free popcorn to go around. Go downstairs to eat and order food and come upstairs for a drink. The servers are very nice and the drinks are good.

Burrito Loco is consistently great. I prefer it over Chipotle because of their salsa. Burrito Loco has the best salsa I've ever had at a restaurant. I also like that you can get a buffalo wing flavored chicken burrito. It's unique, tasty, and who doesn't like buffalo wing sauce. They deliver, they're fast, and reliable.

Good burritos, tacos, nachos. Great specials!! Trivia on Wednesday night. All around a good campus bar. The upstairs is more of a bar and downstairs is a restaurant. I do miss the back-alley ambiance of the old loco from time to time, but why cry over spilt milk?

I hit this place rather late on a Thursday evening. All of a sudden around 10:30 or so a flood of college students overtook the Library so it was off to Burrito Loco for one final soda and some nacho's before heading home. The prices seemed a bit expensive given you could get a long island tea just down the road for $2.50 (given the locale). The nacho's and pretty much everything else was $6.50, so basically you get chips rather than a tortilla and get to toss as much other junk as you wanted to. I was ordering a light snack for a couple people so I piled it with Steak, Beef, tomato's, rice, a few salsa piles off to the side (beef and steak also on the sides), then separate containers of jalapeno's and sour cream. They had a nice outdoor patio if it had been empty but, it was standing room only, the burrito line seating downstairs was not horrible, nice staff offered tips (I'll put it on the side, hey how about some on the side), the bar was upstairs every now and then we would hear the all to familiar 'drink-drink-drink', it was packed, I never checked out out. Good beef/steak/chips/quaso/salsa's. I would go during a slow evening but, it's a place I will avoid after a major event ends at the U. It's probably not somewhere I would recommend or talk about. No clue on what the bar was like upstairs.

Great burritos. Beats the crap out of Chipotle and you're not giving your money over to the heartless corporations. Not quite as good as the burritos you get in the southwest though. But for the Cities, they are my burrito place.

When I was 9, I O.D.'d on some of those crappy frozen Tina's burritos and since then I cannot seem to look &/or smell beans without wanting to hurl. I know, what a shame. However, as much as I avoid burritos themselves, the Loco has some amazing Buffalo Chicken Quesadillas. I imagined them to be kinda gross, but they came highly recommended from a co-worker. The experience is even better when I have them delivered in the wee hours of the night (01:30) to my place of employment. Cheapness factor: "University Money Saver" mailer has BOGO beer and burrito coupons.

What's not to love about a burrito bar that delivers? Locally owned, this place delivers a burrito that is better than any of the corporate burrito guys, and they have INSANE drink specials, with all of the good stuff on tap. Free side of chips and salsa with your order, don't even think about going to neighboring Chipotle or Qdoba.

Scrumptious burritos at a low price, this Dinkytown find had plenty of vegetarian options to satisfy this out-of-town visitor. Yum!

mmmm its 2 am and craving Chipotle burrito but they are closed grrrr!!!! Might as well get the knock off version Burrito Loco!! Love this place cheap. If the bar line is open I get my bowl! Buffalo chicken rice pinto beans pico de gallo seasoned sour cream cheese lettuce plus they give you chips and salsa on the side. Great Tex Mex place when you have the munchies late at night. They have selections of great taps too the only thing because I do come only on after hours the music is banging to the point I cant hear myself think but it is the U of M territory so what do I expect!

Just sat down for at least fifteen minutes with a group of three watching EVERY table around us getting served only to be completely ignored by three different servers. I had been here once before with no problems. Granted, we were upstairs and getting drinks from the bar ourselves but this was very frustrating. None of us had ever sat down at a restaurant/bar & grill and not been served before. Very off-putting and very disappointing experience.

2 for 1 beers on Saturday night, what a deal! The burritos are big a full of good stuff, but the chips were pretty stale.. That was the only real bummer! Good selection of local and national beers, cheap margaritas, and it a killer location in Dinky Town. Found parking right outside even on a Saturday night before a b-ball game! Staff was super nice and the restrooms were super clean. I dug it and would go back, but would hope they improve the chips and salsa a bit!

Great food. Great drink specials. It can get pretty busy from time to time, but is definitely a more conversational college bar, if there really is one to begin with. Free popcorn and every once in a while there is a lobster claw game that's a dollar per play. If you want to see an entire bar focus on something other than a TV screen at any point in your life, this is your opportunity. This is typically the location that is at the start of the "Dinkytown Loop", so most people show up around 10pm and take off by 11:30p or midnight. The one drawback that the bar has is mediocre service, especially from the bar staff.

  • Wayne S.

Food was fine. Staff seemed overwhelmed and confused. I wasn't here for Happy Hour, but the deals look crazy! Typical college bar, but as someone not in college it's a bit frustrating.

Amazing Specials every single day of the week! Burrito loco is a small local mexican restaurant in Dinkytown located on the U of M campus. The downstairs reminds me of your standard Chipotle restaurant but much less modern. featuring build your own burritos. They also have tacos, and other mexican themed specialty items on the menu. Their burritos are large, and taste pretty good. However, I don't think they top Chipotle. Crammed upstairs is a full bar complete with TVs, beer pong tables, arcade games, darts, free popcorn, and full service. This is what brings me in so often, not so much the burritos. It's a very popular bar for U of M students and can fill up every night of the week with college students due to all of their daily food and drink specials. One of my favorite specials is Monday which is buy a mug of beer and get a free chimichanga. Their chimichangas are essentially deep fried burritos slathered in some delicious, mouth-watering, mexican sauce. They are humongous and taste amazing. That along with a full mug of beer make it pretty hard to stick with beer for the rest of the night with a bursting belly. Luckily Monday is flip-for-drinks night. Both Monday's & Sunday's are my favorite nights to go as they feature the flip-for-drinks special. You can order anything from behind the bar and flip a coin for a free drink. If you make the right call, the drink is on the house, otherwise you pay full price. You can flip for almost every drink they make from their cheapest tap beer to top shelf liquors, even margaritas and long island ice teas! You can't flip for pitchers, or fish bowls though. Great spot to go if you're looking for some great specials. If you are in the mood for just the food, they also offer delivery if you live in the area!

  • Michael D.

The food was pretty decent, but what enhanced our experience tenfold was the service. The specials are incredible ($3.50 for a drink and a chimichanga, $.39 wings, etc.) and I have rarely had better service. Brittney, our server, was inviting, friendly, and very helpful. She answered any questions we had about the food, offered suggestions, and even gave us guac for free. If every server was a little more like Brittney, it would be impossible to have a negative restaurant experience.

    (5)
  • Bryan C.

I heard that this place was good, especially their specials, but it is over hyped. Specials are only available when you buy a drink or if you pay for the water. Food was bad and wings were way overcooked. Very pricey given the quality. Service was horrible. Parts of my order were forgotten. If you are going just for drinks this place may be tolerable, but if you want a decent meal do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

5 years later and I still have dreams of this place. I lived off of their burritos when I was in college. It was a short drive from my college when they had their location in uptown. It was so good that when family from out of town would come visit we would all hit up burrito loco for make ur own burritos and it would be enough food for even the largest of eaters. For me 1 burrito would last two meals. I wish they had chains! I no longer live in the area and your Moe's or Chipolte are no way as good!

After partying the night at Varsity Theater with hundreds of college kids and the electro-pop goup Starfucker we hopped in to Burrito Loco...for a Burrito. Its identical to Chipotle for the most part with an assembly line to select your toppings. My girlfriend and I selected 2 different Burritos to try out which was Chicken with pinto beans and Pork with the black beans. It might have been the partying that made it taste so delicious but we went from kind of hungry to scarfing down both the burritos. I will have to come again and try it as things were a bit hazy, and frankly all I remember was the delicious goodness. If your a fan of Chipotle you will love Burrito Loco.

This review is not as accurate as it could be because we only got drinks.... The Loco is a college bar. End of story. Loads of carbs. 2-4-1 beer specials. Trivia that blasts the ear drum. Bouncers who wear ear pieces. I was a little out of place given the fact that I am no longer in my early twenties, but they do what they do very well. The crowd was fun and energetic. The people doing trivia upstairs seemed to be having a great time. And they didn't mind a couple of old fuddy duddys sitting at one of the side tables.

My opinion about this place is quite divided. I went there to have a drink with a friend. Loved the drink, loved the ambiance. Good times. Then I went another day to eat a burrito with a friend, and honestly, it was just average. I am a big Chipotle fan so as far as burritos are concerned, I guess I will stick with that for the time being.

Say what you will about Burrito Loco, it's a great college bar. Or, as Tori M. put it, "For whatever reason, I kind of like Burrito Loco." Me too, Tori. Me too. I'm totally biased because some of my best college memories are tied to what we fondly refer to as B.Loco, or perhaps stuck to the booze-covered floor rather than "tied," but I've been won over by chimichangas, many-a-karaoke night and bottomless popcorn*. The crowd is 10x more tolerable than The Library (though I will give them credit for having what MUST be the cheapest shots in town) and the patio puts them another notch above the typical "college bars" in the area. B. Loco is also pro-giving-you-a-reason-to-drink-every-night-of-the-week which worked on my roommates and I more often than not. (I will never forget the night I flipped for everyone's drinks and won every time. See mom? I knew how to be thrifty in college!) My brother turns 21 this fall and I've somewhat selfishly instructed him that we will be celebrating here. *I also may or may not have flirted with a guy just to get through to the popcorn machine.

Love it here, despite the terrible service. The best is when the server brings out steaming hot fajita platters and drips the steaming hot oil/juice on your leg. Then your other waitress argues with you about a certain type of beer you KNOW they have - and eventually goes to check and brings it out for you (after about a 15 minute wait.)

I am terribly picky when it comes to my meat and portion size of things and burritos are always a very scary food item for me; eating blindly past the tortilla. I had heard that Burrito Loco was a natural and local spin off to Chipotle so if you liked big burritos and good drink specials then you'd be a fan. The rumors were true. It was a dark and dreary Minnesota fall day and I wanted something I didn't have to cook so I figured I would try the burrito delivery (which took an amazing 16 minutes!) The burritos were in fact HUGE like the major chains but were successfully wrapped and no spill! The innards were tasty, fresh, hot and just as they should be (though it could always use more cheese) and the mild sauce was nice and ... mild. The chips were average chips but they did come free with my order and free is always nice. Nothing awesome or amazing, just good and tasty and two burritos only cost $14.56 total so I guess I'm a fan!

What can I say? This place is a such a staple for that week day drink special! They have a great wing special on Wedesdays and of course, the biggest burritos in the world. The downstairs is not 21+ but if you want to go upstairs it is. They have Karaoke which is super fun and free popcorn! Basically, a great place to be with friends and it is a college bar, don't expect cleanliness or anything like that. Prices are good and most of the waitresses are pretty awesome. If you go in for your birthday, they will even give you 3 free drinks. A college staple and I will def be visiting again!

We ventured over here after enjoy a Gopher football win, on the way to go see some students who were on campus. I had never been here, but had a few friends who had dropped the name in the last week so it had me curious, conveniently right around the the time we were nearby and looking for some food. We stopped in and the place is a little confusing. There is a place you can order like chipotle/qdboa, but there are tables and wait staff. We weren't sure the proper protocol. We sat down and a server came and took our order. On the plus, the burritos come with chips and salsa (unlike chipotle/qdoba, that you end up forking out a small penny for that). I went for the buffalo chicken burrito and was slightly underwhelmed. The boyfriend got a steak burrito and the guac he ordered was missing. He was also underwhelmed... If you are a student on campus, I think it is grub and someplace I would go for a super filling meal...but I wouldn't go running over there again.

Food was decent, but service was horrible. Never again on a Friday night much less at all. All the workers had no communication skills. Worker to worker nor worker to guest. We ate downstairs after dinner. We went upstairs sat for 25 minutes for a waitress no one came so after asking three times she told to go to the bar or we would not get happy hour. We then went to the bar found out the from the tender we could have had happy hour at the table. We then proceeded to speak with a manager who really did not give a crap about what we had to say he said he would talk to his server / bartender even after the fact we did not have his server one finally did come up she asked us if we had an open tab with the bartender we told her a few of us did she then said she could not serve us and walked away with no explanation crappy service never again don't come don't come here

Burrito Loco, or as us Minnesota students call it, B-Loco (is 5 syllables too long for a bar name?) is probably my favorite Dinkytown bar. It's a little more chill than Blarney, less trashy than Library, and has better food. They always have good drink specials. Sundays and Mondays are Flip for Drinks which are always fun. If you flip right, you win your drink. Wednesday is trivia night with a by-the-wing deal (29 cents I think?) Thursdays are $2 you call it's (spend the extra dollars on better beer and avoid the Library). Saturdays are a free pitcher of wings when you buy a pitcher of beer, and the wings are really good. Tuesdays are hell. It's "birthday night" mixed with karaoke. Imagine a bunch of newly 21 year olds screeching out Journey and Spice Girls in their tiaras and you get the picture. Stay away unless you're more drunk than they are. Food is hit or miss. Nachos are good and a huge portion. Quesadillas taste a little like cafeteria food. Putting seasoned sour cream and buffalo and barbecue chicken on the menu gives a little twist to the Chipotle burrito. The BBQ wings are probably my favorite, though.

Burrito Loco is one of those places where it feels like a guilty pleasure to visit, but since the Dinkytowner closed (RIP), and since there are no other normal bars in Dinkytown, this is one of my favorite places for Happy Hour. I re-stumbled upon this place whilst walking home from the gym. I felt that someone had misplaced the signage, because it was directly in the middle of the sidewalk-great move, and the sign said something great. The sign said: $1 beers from 3-5pm on Fridays. Well shit, it was Friday, and it was 3 pm, and Burrito Loco was straight ahead. I had to make a split-second decision. I proceeded to walk in and pound as many PBRs as I could possibly drink in the span of 2 to 3 hours (the times for the HH vary depending on game days, but it is always on Fridays). I enjoy that kind of deal on drinks. I go for the inexpensive beer. I seldom have ordered food at Burrito Loco; however, last night I did get a burrito, and it tasted great. I finished half, and then I saved the other half for breakfast. The portions are massive and the burritos are great drunk food. The service is exceptional. The bartenders are friendly, the bouncers are convivial, the burrito engineers are professional, and most of the servers-if not all of the servers, are female, and mostly nice. I find that situation moderately sexist, but looking at the crowd I am sure they make decent enough tips, and this was a purely strategic decision made by upper management. The one negative aspect to this bar is that there are tons of university students trying to get their drunk on in such a small setting. This is not a place to do homework at, or have a meaningful conversation. There are people crawling all over you to get to the bar. Last night a girl challenged me to a drinking competition and lost miserably in front of all of her friends. I did get a free beer out of the deal, so I guess it's not such a bad thing to be surrounded by so many cheering fans. Yet, it still remains a pleasure of mine to have breathing room. I guess with such a good deal on beer, and at such a peak time, it is a reasonable occurrence. But in reality there are far too many people wearing maroon and gold overalls to label this bar as a chill go-to. This is not to say I won't be back, because I will. I usually go in, get some drinks, and vacate before the yelling and screaming transpires. It's like Cheers, except for everybody doesn't know your name, and everyone is a bro with an open tab drunkenly leaning over you while you sit at the bar engaged in sportscaster lip reading. The Happy Hour situation is a deal, I'd go for that.

ok The food is pretty bad like good if you are drunk maybe. Nice portion sizes tho -they are not tryna rip you off. The chimichanga was too big to finish!!! Why the 2 stars then? This place is SHADY!!! Last time I went there- about 11:00 on a Saturday, I gave the waitress my card for my group (so we can't leave without paying). So when I get my check I don't want to pay with my card so I don't sign anything and leave my payment in cash. The next what do you know they charged my card- the waitress took all 6$ I left to pay as a tip!! I only got one beer it was 4.41 with tax not much to call them about. Ok so maybe that's my fault for not telling the waitress I want to pay with cash a simple misunderstanding. But here's the real kicker: I'm looking at my bank statement a few days later and the charge has been changed to 6.00$ even. Now I don't know what happened but what it looks like is a waitress or bartender changed my ticket and pocketed the difference! Like not worth 12$ for one beer :( just saying SIGN AND TAKE A COPY OF THE RECEIPT!!

Decent food, no worse pricing than Chipotle, better than Qdoba (sorry qdoba, try not giving me overcooked rice 3x in a row and then we'll talk). I will hopefully swing by for happy hour sometime.

Upstairs is your pretty standard college bar, probably one of my favorites in Dinkytown. Trivia, free popcorn, cheap drink specials, beer pong tables, pool tables, and karaoke. I used to love going here when I went to the U of M, but, going back after college does make me feel old. Downstairs is a nice burrito place. It's set up like Chipotle, but they have some additional toppings. I recommend the buffalo chicken or the steak with BBQ sauce. I also love love love the seasoned sour cream. And, of course, the queso. Yum! They also give you a little bag of chips with purchase. This was always a great place to go after a night out in Dinkytown. But, I would go here sober as well.

B.Loco, to students, is one of the better college bars in Dinkytown, next to the University of Minnesota Campus. It's called B.Loco, because the "Local" is the Irish bar downtown. Every night has a decent special. Their Wednesday night bar trivia is always packed, even in the summer. It's fun and Steve the DJ always brings some swag for people. We've even won some beer signs on a few occasions. PBR mittens and such in the winter are some fun door prizes. The popcorn is free and well, bar popcorn. But it's always there! The drinks are cheap. Which is nice. The burritos are fantastic. They're on a comprable level to Qdoba but cheaper, you get free chips and the buffalo chicken is amazing. The $7 meal and beer, a mug or otherwise is pretty great. I go every Wednesday and will continue to go. Leaving an entire evening of eating and drinking for $20 isn't too shabby.

There is nothing good about this place -- don't be fooled by the gimmicky specials. Our waitress misled us on the price of drinks. The food was mediocre at best, didn't seem fresh, and was somewhat expensive (horribly expensive for the quality). I'd rather drink beers in the drive through at taco bell -- it would be just as classy.

Hello chipotle? I had to look twice when I walked in but ... sure Burrito Loco it is. I ordered the pulled pork burrito salad and it comes with free chips and salsa. Huge portions, fresh ingredients, and cheap prices.

Wow, I feel like I'm in college again. It hasn't been that long, has it? Either way, it didn't make a difference as I still steamrolled the opposition in beer pong. Beer pong is free, but there are only two tables, so you gotta wait. They'll take a deposit on the ping pong balls. It sounds silly, but they do bounce around in the crowd and are quite easy to lose. And after a few drinks, they become even more arduous to find and track down. A pitcher of Bud Lite will run you $8. A couple of those and you're good for a game or two. As for the burritos downstairs, they look more appetizing as the night goes on and also as you down more drinks. Just because they look better at 2 AM doesn't necessarily mean they are better. Try to keep that in mind before you put down another $6.50 on one.

Great college bar. Love the popcorn machine. The Saturday Special of a pitcher of beer accompanied by a pitcher of wings is excellent. It's got a nice jukebox too, however, it can be abused by some assholes that play the same song over and over again (heard Rebel Yell by Billy Idol about 10 times in a row last time I went). Also have to mention the seasoned sour cream. I could drown in a vat of that special sauce and die a happy man. One small problem-- the bathrooms are always ridiculously wet. Don't ask me why, but it always seems like the floor is soaked in there. I don't really understand it, but I guess I don't really care. I'm too busy thinking about the seasoned sour cream.

Beware possible identity theft operation- I am the parent of a 22 yr old who had his drivers license confiscated at burrito loco. The bouncer claimed it was a fake ID. My son returned the next day with his passport to retrieve his drivers license from burrito loco. He even took a police officer with him a second time and still the Burrito loco staff refused to return his id (staff says owner was not available to open safe where ID's are stored). My son returned three or four times in order to get his ID but each time was given another excuse. I tried to talk with the manager but his staff would not let me talk to him and he never returned my call. A police officer tried to help me but was also told the owner was unavailable. Everything about this is so odd and suspicious. We are under the impression there is an identity theft operation going on here. We have filed a complaint with the attorney general.

Okay come on now... A burrito right?! Wrong. It's a freakin way of life. And they do it very well here! Add to it flips for drinks, and the INSANE happy hour specials?! Yeah, this is wayyyyyy too much fun to exist in reality!

This place is definitely a college bar, but the food is pretty good. Their BBQ chicken wings are to die for! Good beer too! The staff was very nice and helpful as this was our first time there. We had burritos, kids had tacos, and parents had salads... it was all very good. We'll definitely be back! :)

This place seemed to have an interesting flare about it, but the food isn't especially great. First off, its Minnesota's idea of Mexican food--which is to say Tex Mex...kinda. In any case, the "Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla" I ordered wasn't bad, just not anything close to a burrito or other form of Mexican cuisine. I asked for the spiciest salsa they had, since I'm from California, which ended up essentially being tomato sauce... Still, there were lots of college kids running around upstairs. I think it's more of a drinking hang out than anything else. I vaguely recall seeing a sign for line dancing as well. I'm not sure I'd go there to hang out and drink, either, but I guess it's better than nothing...

Beer selection leaves something to be desired. It's hit or miss depending on time of year. Free popcorn. Good wings. Patio. If you're over 23 you'll feel old. But hey, I went here every week in college and it was one of my fave bars. Less douchey frat boys than The Library. Friday After Class and Wednesday 29-cent wings are the best specials. I miss this bar a LOT. Even with the occasional poor service.

Chipolte without being Chipolte? Truths: There is bad service, Like extremely bad service. There are great drink specials. Very very often. The burritos are better than Chipoltes. Basically, I love a great burrito - nothing is better to me with a cold glass of beer than a burrito some days and typically it ends up being Chipolte and sans a beer (because honestly, I find it weird to drink beer from Chipolte, idky.). But now I can have my burrito and my beer and be a very happy girl. They have tons of fresh fixings for the burritos and you get chips and salsa with your order. Delicious. Check it out, ignore the bad service and savor the tasty burrito.

Skeletor serving a lutefisk burrito would be a friendlier and more appetizing experience than the snarling dreck I got here. They threatened to 86 me last year for attempting to use a passport to buy a beer. ("You have passport? ARE YOU A GAY COMMUNISS???!!!") Needless to say, I didn't get anything to wash down my burrito, which tasted like a pile of moldy warts wrapped in lefse. I almost threw it into the Mississippi, but then I thought better of using the river for toxic waste disposal. Belch.

I'm giving this place three stars based solely on the quality of the food. I recently lived in Burrito Loco's delivery area so I ordered from the place a ton. I love the fact that this place has three different varieties of chicken: original, barbeque and buffalo. I'm a huge chicken fan so having three chicken varieties is a major perk for me. I love the fact that they give you free chips with your order and really wish Chipotle would get on board with this. The sit in service is a decent option because Burrito Loco is spatious and serves beer and has specials every night of the week. Here's the huge downside: the delivery service at this place is terrible. It isn't because of slow service, they're actually really quick. But they repeatedly screwed up my delivery orders, even when I had asked the employee to repeat the order back, and they had taken the order correctly. I get that it's probably a little confusing to have to make a burrito that has like ten different specifications to it, but if it's really that mind-boggling of a task to put together a delivery order for this product, Burrito Loco should consider discontinuing their delivery option, because it is completely unacceptable to repeatedly mess up delivery orders. The absolute worst experience there happened a few months ago when I ordered and the employee who took my order had a really bad attitude about having to repeat the order back. I told him I felt bad about it, but I had had so many experiences with getting the wrong order that I just wanted the order repeated back to me now. I understand how annoy customers can be, for I've worked in the service industry for years. But if someone asks the restaurant to repeat the order back, it really shouldn't be that terrible of a request. Anyhow, I have reason to suspect the dude who took my order screwed my order up on purpose, because not only were the burritos that came to my apartment arrive smashed, but they were completely screwed up. And he repeated back the exact order. And both burritos were messed up in a variety of ways. I actually called back twice to complain about how bad the order was, and they offered to send out a duplicate order. But me and my boyfriend had consumed so much of the burrito before realizing how many things were messed up, and were so mad about the fact that this had happened eighty times in the past (or so it seems) that we just finished whatever they gave us and said we weren't going to order there again. And we haven't, because what's the point in ordering food from a place that repeatedly screws your order up, then if you politely ask for someone to repeat an order back they purposefully mess up your entire order just to be dicks. No thank you. Screw you, college students who work at Burrito Loco who think you're above giving decent customer service. You're not.

I just made an order for delivery and the guy on the phone was SO nice. Usually when people take a delivery order they just take the order and hang up asap. He was friendly, energetic, and I hope the food is actually as good as the service.

Burrito Loco was my favorite bar in college. Good food, cheap drinks, and had the best crowd on any given night. I still frequent BL; I prefer their burritos to Chipotle. AND you get free chips and salsa with your order. What's better than that? They also validate parking in the lot behind House of Hanson, so bring your ticket in!

Tastes like Sexism. I used to love Burrito Loco. I would go for lunch all the time. It was a little hit and miss on table service, but I liked the burrito line. However, one of my friends recently applied for a job and they told him they only hire female waitresses. It had previously escaped my attention that all the servers were college age females in short shorts. It wouldn't bother me at all if this wasn't a policy- but apparently it is. And that makes me lose my appetite.

Thrifty drink specials and cheap food, but only ideal for those under 24 OR for those with an iron stomach. Should you be a Christmas Cake (past 25), you may feel out of place or cursed with a sour tummy the next morning. Unless you have no shame, then go ahead and enjoy!

Good lord I'm getting old. Too many bros with too much cologne on listening to extremely loud music. I hadn't been here in a while but a couple of my buddies wanted to head to Dinkytown to grab some cheap drinks ($2 you call-its on Thursdays)/relive our rebellious undergrad years. Burrito Loco has a respectable selection of Tex-Mex foods to choose from and a variety of meats to pick for your burrito (buffalo chicken is my fave). They always have "specials" during the week but be careful to ask your server how much that pitcher of beer really costs before you order it for the "free" food.

To sum things up, we had awful, unaccommodating, and unhygienic service concerning our overpriced, nasty, tequila-less, real lime-less margaritas and were forced to pay a 20% gratuity for a 2-person bill because we were sitting with a larger party I split a $15 pitcher of margaritas with a friend of mine. In addition to tasting completely artificial and syrupy, there was no tequila to be found in it. When we complained initially, the waitress took our pitcher and said she'd talk to the bartender about putting more tequila in it. This was the no-go, as the bartender had supposedly put "lots of tequila" in it. After finishing the pitcher (4-5 large glasses), neither of us had the slightest tinge of a buzz (we're both smallish females). We told the waitress when she came back to try to get us to order another pitcher. Her response was "well, we put a straw in your pitcher when I brought it back and we tasted plenty of tequila." Really? She put a straw in our pitcher and tasted it and brought it back to us? That's really weird and disgusting. Also, another waitress wanted to take our pitcher when there was still two inches left. When I mentioned that there was still margarita in it, the girl was like "well....we're low on pitchers." Then when the bill came, there was a....20% gratuity added. What? The top of the bill said "15% gratuity included for parties of 8 or more." We got the manager. He was utterly unhelpful. Me: "It says 15% gratuity and you added 20." Manager: "Oh yeah, it's a typo. Yeah, 20%" Me: But the bill is only between the two of us. Manager: Well, you were sitting with more people.... Then we complained about the margaritas...he didn't care. We complained about how we never got the waters that we asked for twice....he didn't care. We complained about how employees supposedly put a straw in our pitcher, tasted us, and gave it back to us....he didn't care. Basically, they were entirely rude and unaccommodating and unwilling to do anything to rectify our dissatisfaction (even taking off the 20% tip...). I should mention that we came in at around 7:30, completely sober. It's not exactly like we were some drunk stumbling college kids slurring about how the drinks weren't strong enough; we were just paying customers who wanted good service and a good product. Needless to say, we will never go here again.

Here's a place with a policy to not accept passports as ID. Their reasoning- if I'm using a passport I probably sold my drivers license to someone following close behind. But, had I had my yellow papers or an expired ID with the passport, I would have passed muster. Apparently the mere fact that I own a passport is enough to convict me. I'm sorry for supporting you throughout college; you made my graduation night super fucking special. Poor logic and ageism. Wrap that up in your soggy burrito.

Burrito Loco is a fun place to drink intoxicating beverages. They have really great drink specials, a fun crowd (not too many cliche frat boys), and... (Americanized) MEXICAN FOOD. What is not to love? You're fucking drunk and famished. What do you want to eat? MEXICAN FOOD. That's right. I'll tell you what you want: buffalo chicken nachos with the queso. Yes, your arteries are clogging. Big deal, you are slowly killing your liver anyway. Tuesdays are the best. They give you three free tacos (veggie or beef) with a rail drink or tap beer purchase. They don't normally sell these tacos, and that's a god damn shame. I crave them. It's fucked up. Anyway, I should be heading there right now because Tuesday is also birthday night (5 free drinks if it's your birthday week, baby!) and my birthday Thursday! Last note: There is a female bartender (blonde, I think) that is a total snot-nose. Avoid her. No matter how well I tip my drinks are completely soda. No, I don't enjoy paying $3.50 for a diet coke and not getting tipsy... P.S. I hate to say it, but the regular meat (AKA not the buffalo chicken) is about ten times less flavorful than Chipotle. But when you've had six gin and tonics, who cares? You need some damn burrito and you need it now.

I would never go to B.Loco for the food (it is certainly nothing special), but my friends and I, as poor/maybejustcheap U of M students, are continually drawn to the drink specials at this conveniently located bar. Flip for drinks (order your drink, if you call a coin flip correctly, get your drink free) on Sundays and Mondays and KARAOKE! and $3 Long Islands on Tuesdays are our faves. The crowd at B.Loco is a little more to my liking than those at The Library or Blarney (like Nicole N. said, "not too many cliche frat boys"), and the music's not too bad, although it definitely varies day-to-day.

I held out on the so-called burrito train for a long time. They're massive, have ostensibly very few vegetables, and use sub-par meat. I've eaten at 331, so this really shouldn't be an issue for me, right? But after a few drinks and other food places have closed down, you're kind of at the mercy of what ever's out there. Including Burrito Loco. I don't think it's that the burritos are bad, so much as they aren't my personal taste. The meat tends to be plentiful, but dry. They spice their rice into oblivion, which some people like and others, like yours truly, cannot stand. The tortilla chips taste like cardboard. The entire upstairs bar is comprised of steel tables and concrete floors. Easier for cleaning after some kid has their 21st birthday there? Gross. This review is not meant to highlight Chipotle's clear superiority, as they are not without their faults. But it's clearly a Chiptole with slightly different rice, higher prices, and a vast sea of cheap alcohol. Go if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Really, really, really, really, really BAD service for really not all that great food. Serious, Chipotle is just as good. The only reason I go there is for lunch to get the nachos inside, at the line, because I don't have to deal with their truly bad waitresses who don't seem to care too much about what they're doing and don't' seem to be monitored or trained by any managerial staff. Well, I should say some probably care, but don't know what they're doing. Seriously, EVERY time I've ever sat outside during the summer or gone upstairs to drink, it's been terribly difficult to get a drink, put an order in, and the worst is, you can't get a bill. I went inside 3 times once when we were ready to leave and talked with 2-3 different people. Took 30 minutes to get bill and pay. Should have just left. Great if you're an undergraduate and don't know any better. In fact, if this place were located anywhere but on a college campus, it would never survive.

This is our happy hour spot of choice. You can't beat the drink specials. 2-for-1s from 4 - 9, free food specials every day of the week from 5 - 10 with the purchase of beer or soda. PS - the Friday night food special is a Mexican Pizza . . . it's to die for. I crave it when it's not Friday's. On Friday's they have a special from 2 - 6 selling $4 pitchers and $6 margarita pitchers. You just can't beat their deals. I would say it's pretty chill, you can hear the conversation you are having (during happy hour, not as much at night . . . but if you make it till then, you won't care). :) The owners are great and take time to get to know customers. The service is alright. As far as food goes, I love the taco salad and tacos. My research group has been going every Monday for the past 7 years, it's tradition, rain or snow, and it's worth it 98% of the time. (The newbies sometimes like to skimp on the fillings, but they learn quickly). The steak actually resembles the real deal versus other places where it could be a darker version of chicken for all you know. The barbeque chicken is delicious, pair that with extra bbq sauce. The burritos are large and better than Chipotle. You get free chips and sauce with every order. They validate one hour in the parking lot behind the restaurants, which is nice since it is surrounded by meters, and parking is only $2/hr otherwise. Also a pretty good deal. Sally's is more expensive, numerous times they have overcharged credit cards in our group and crowded with an "I care about how I look all the time" crowd (sometimes that is ok), The Library is fun if you're looking for a more lively atmosphere after 10pm, I would say Stub and Herb's is comparable, but they are supporting all local breweries so you won't find your cheap domestics here, but Stub and Herb's would be my second favorite.

For whatever reason, I kind of like Burrito Loco. It's unpretentiously shouting to the world, "Yes, we are full of drunk frat boys and greasy college kids, but hey~ have some free nachos with that pitcher!" And that is really the key word- free. Though those nachos are free- they are pretty darn satisfying. Free chimichanga night? Free taco night? Heck yes! It is best to BLoco for Happy Hour earlier. I usually try to clear out before 9pm, because that is when the fratties/greasies show up and make it impossible to get to the bar/breathe. If you do stay later though, get your elbows ready to plunge through the college meat-parade to get your drink on.

  • A P.

Food special make you think you are getting a free food with a purchase of a beer which technically you are. Your food cost is built into your drinks for the rest of the night though... It is a fun place. I don't think that the quality of meat is the best but that kind of what you sign up for with free food with purchase of a drink. I continue to go back to it must be ok!

  • Kat W.

Definitely better than the location in Uptown because they will make anything on their burrito menu downstairs for you on the line, should you stumble in after a drunkcapade. Plus your plunder comes with chips, salsa, and regular or seasoned (!) sour cream. Yes. The patio is small, and gets super-crowded on days in which it is particularly warm. At least they have one. Trivia on Wednesday nights is pretty superb - they have a few decent drink specials and they seem to have a different food special every night of the week. I would say wings are probably the best deal. I usually don't pick it first, but it hath never failed me.

Gosh, I REALLY wanted to LOVE this place.I so enjoy Minneapolis and my son described this as the place that even Jesus would get his burritos from. He even gave a review in the Minnesota daily about it. So now my experience. We went on a Friday ( 4-6 pm drink specials) . I wanted the$5 pitcher of margaritas. The bouncer guy refused to allow me upstairs to get it and the waitress was too busy . By the time I finally got some attention is was just a tad past 6, I could not get the drink special. We finally realized they were concerned that I would give liquor to my son. I then decided on a $2 bottle of beer..warm to the touch, insisted on having my $2 back The loco sauce to die for HOT!! The food is not as veggie/health friendly as I'd hoped. I will however give it another try . I am definitely going to need a FREEBIE to do so, though. Not sure about this impartial review thing, mine was removed til I made it nicer.Being a Mom of a U student myself..It's not personal. Just don't hate us cause we are Not college students!!

Worst service ever. Pitcher of margaritas had no tequila and not even a hint of lime. Came in for dinner at 7:00 pm, totally sober, ordered a meal and margaritas. Food mediocre - go to Chipotle if you want real food. Drinks totally watered down, possibly no alcohol. The fact that it was early in the evening and the response to complaints about the food and service were so arrogant is telling about how customers are treated. I hate to think about what customers who show up later in the evening in impaired condition are subjected to.

This place is the only thing I miss about Minneapolis. Late at night in Chicago, I start to crave a buffalo chicken quesadilla and cry because nothing over here can satisfy these cravings like BLoco can. For the novice: Yes, throw some corn salsa into whatever you're having. Yes, extra buffalo chicken sauce on that as well. Yes, you want seasoned sour cream (the regular stuff is for losers). Yes, even though you do not want to pay for that guac, you want it. Sit back and enjoy the best moment of your life. ***Added Bonus*** when BLoco has the drink special "flip for it" call heads or tails and the bartender will comp your drink if you're right. The last time I did this I went 4/6...

There are a few things Burrito Loco has going for it. First, they are one of the few places in Dinkytown that does late night delivery (you'd think this would be a fortune waiting to happen near the U). They also have some decent specials; they claim they're the best near the University but I'm a little weary of this advertisement since Sally's also makes the same claim. And if you went to the University you know the kind of place that is, and I shouldn't need to elaborate on the tedious atmosphere and crowd it draws. I went with a couple other friends and they kept telling me that it was pitcher night (Saturday). Obviously since I've never been before, they explained to me that if you order a pitcher of beer/margaritas you get a free pitcher of wings. Now, call me naive, but there were two things that threw me off here which caused me to repeatedly ask the same two questions: 1. I was not aware you could serve chicken wings in a pitcher ("...and they're served in a pitcher?") and 2. I was unaware that Mexican restaurants served chicken wings ("They make chicken wings?"). Needless to say, I was told to "shut up" several times. The food isn't outstanding but it's good, especially the quesadillas, chips and guac. The crowd is definitely the college age undergrads (which is alright in small doses), so expect popped collars on polo shirts and sports on the TV. Also, men think they're funny when they're in a crowd with their friends. Be careful about asking for a bar stool from them. I learned that the hard way. And, once again, U of M = No parking; bring quarters, park in Coon Rapids and walk. Finally, they do in fact serve chicken wings, even though they're a Mexican restaurant, and they do come in a beer pitcher.

Fantastic drink special every day of the week. Even Fridays and Saturdays. Burritos are also tasty. This place is great because they have pool and darts, ample seating and standing space, and a not too dressy meatheadish atmosphere. People go there to chill out, drink, and chat. There's not much dancing going on here, but I think it's the best bar in Dinkytown. Especially in terms of drink specials (unless you want to get real nasty and drop 4 long islands at The Library).

    (4)
  • Nick L.

First the bad. The burritos are nothing special. In my halcyon college days I would walk from my apartment to BL at least a couple of times a month to purchase one of their fajitas. Maybe things tasted better in my youth, maybe I've grown since college, but I'd make that trek warm or -15 F with a windchill. Nothing would stop me from getting a chicken fajita. Yes they were expensive, $6.00 was a lot of moolah for my college-aged self, but at least I got a bag of chips and mild salsa with them. Now my tastes have changed and I find them merely edible at best. They'll do in a drunken pinch, however. I recommend the wings these days. Now the good. BL is about more than burritos. The drink specials there are great for a Friday night. $1 rails and $1 PBRs, not that I love PBR, but $1 is too good to pass up. Being in Dinkytown means that you should expect typical college kids, but hey, I was there once and they aren't lepers or anything. And to paraphrase "Dazed and Confused". The thing I like about college girls is I keep getting older, but they stay the same age. There are plenty of TVs to watch the game, but the bar is upstairs, so only the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

This place sucks... the food is disgusting even after you've been drinking all night and need to put grub in your belly. How often does that happen? When you're plastered ANYTHING tastes good... hell, I've had cheeze whiz burritos that tasted like heaven whilst loopy but this place made me want to gag. Who cares if everything comes in one -16 bucks for a burrito and some chips- price... it's a big load of barfy burrito crap. If size is all you care about and you don't mind eating six pounds of dog poo all wrapped up into a tortilla, you will love this place. oh and the blaring dance club music adds to the crap. All crap I tell you

The food is pretty good but Loco's strong point is the great atmosphere in the bar.

I was in Dinky Town for a friends 21st birthday, and Burrito Loco was the last stop on our tour. After a few hours of drinking we were very hungry, and I decided to get a burrito. I told them to throw the hottest salsa they had on there. What a big mistake that was! It was the hottest burrito that I have ever eaten. The atmosphere of the place was great, and the Long Island Ice Tea's were a great deal. They were HUGE, and only $5-6.

Something tells me they don't stay in business because of their food... and that explains why it tastes so bad

A rather small bar upstairs at night but a great patio addition outside during the summer. they have free food specials every night and Friday happy hour of dollar pints and rails from 3-6 can't be beat. The food is nothing special but you can't complain about free bar food when it's something other than fries or burgers. A great atmosphere for birthdays (drink free on Tuesdays if it's your birthday week) or a few beers after class. Not to mention free popcorn, cute waitresses, and .25 cent taps Wednesday nights.

Let me state my case clearly, I consider this to be a companion piece to my review for the Dinkytowner. I also would suspect my rating to have a couple more stars if it were written in the same "state of mind," I typically had while eating there. You see, whenever my friends and I would get all tanked up on cheap taps at the 'towner, we would roll out into the frigid streets of dinkytown in winter looking for something to cram into our drunken maws. One of my good friends would invariably start yapping about 'crazy burrito, crazy burrito, crazy burrito,' over and over and over. This typically served as an adequate sales pitch. So, rolling four to five deep, us drunken post-college idiots would lurch and stumble our way to this University hangout to stuff our faces and pick fights with the sprightly young university co-eds. The staff is largely composed of apple-cheeked university students and high school kids who had clearly been passing their burrito-rolling existence with extended interludes of spliff-sucking. I cannot knock their craft, however, they've got it down pat. And to watch a more experienced burrito roller at work while half-drunk is cathartic to say the least; something you can count on, something that will be here after nuclear winter. But I digress (and apologize). After the monetary details have been taken care of, it's time to eat without breathing. Through each layer of your preferred burrito, you spew crass conversation in every direction and begin to plot your greatest triumph of the night. You see, at every table, there sits a huge bottle of some very tasty hot sauce (typically Cholula). And as the prospect of slathering your breakfast eggs in this mexican gravy stares you straight in the face, you give over to your third vice of the night; greed. And again, invariably, someone makes some sort of distracting, grandiose gesture as another, more sly friend, slips the gleaming bottle of hot sauce into the inner pocket of his winter jacket, or the pocket of his gap shorts he got in college. Listen here now, I'm not condoning theft. I am condoning, however, binge drinking (at the dinkytowner) and eating (at crazy burrito). If you just so happen to walk out of that place with a bottle of hot sauce in your dungarees, that's on you.

Came here with a friend to grab a late night burrito. I got mine with the guacamole which was a mistake. The Guac looked brown from sitting out. The guac was disgusting, it ruined the taste of the burrito. Since I spent $7 on it I forced myself to eat half of it. I'm sure the burrito would have been good without the guac. Huge bummer...i'll stick to chipotle.

BEST NACHOS EVER. I've been out here for 4 months, and I try a different nacho/burrito place that has nachos.. at least twice a week.. I miss burrito loco's nachos so much. They have great tortilla chips... the queso cheese is delicious (not that bright orange radioactive nacho goo)... fresh jalapenos (not pickled)... and they put rice on them which is delicious. All the ingredients are just perfect. When I go back to Minnesota for Thanksgiving I'm going to be in there a ton. I also love the atmosphere, trivia night, karaoke... etc. They have a blue raspberry slushie that I dig, as well.

First off their burritos suck. Second off it smells terrible in there.

Not particularly good food for me. The guac is full of onions and cilantro, both of which I hate which ruin what is normally my favorite part of Mexican food. And I could deal with the cilantro normally but there is just so much of it and then the onions...ugh. I realized that this is probably a weird complaint, but it makes this place totally unappealing to me. I'd be happy with veggie burritos or quesadilla otherwise. I also don't drink...so again the great drink specials just aren't anything appealing for me.

I don't come here for the food, rather for the alcohol. Their happy hour is great for beergaritas! And their free popcorn. It's inexpensive for college students, and the atmosphere is also great for them us too.

Apparently, this place is pretty popular with the college kids. Restaurant downstairs, bar upstairs. It's more a get-a-table-and-chat place than anything. They had some music, as I recall. They had some pretty good drink specials, but the vibe/ambiance left a bit to be desired.

I would give this place 4 1/2 stars if it was an option, and if their prices were a bit lower. Some people have compared this place to Chipotle, but this place is much better than that bastardized chain version of California burritos. This place had Mexican brown rice, and the option of pinto beans instead of just black beans. Also, I was surprised at how good their guacamole was; I wasn't expecting to encounter that in Minnesota/ so far north. I was there in the middle of the day, so I can't really judge their night-life, but the afternoon special on beers was a good deal. Would definitely recommend this place for taste alone. I thought their prices were a little high for a college neighborhood though. ::shrug::

Delivery burritos are always cold. Too much sour cream, not enough salsa. Stale tortillas. Meh. They do have good specials though if you go in, but then you have to fight the frat based masses, which is interesting, but not always what I'm going for. If you want a crappy burrito, walk a block to Qdoba...they'll even put cheese sauce in it. If you want to live it up right off frat row, there is always the Library!

It's a step above Chipotle in terms of variety and quality and it has a much larger alcohol selection. Burrito Loco strikes me as first and foremost a college town bar, and second a taqueria. There are a wide range of drink and food specials. I like Burrito Loco because it's not putting on airs.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
