My daughter and her husband just moved to the Lake Harriet area so we've gone for walks around the lake and ended up at the Bread and Pickle a couple of times once for breakfast and once for lunch. I had a regular burger which was nothing special but hubby had the walleye sandwich and son-in-law had a lobster/shrimp roll. They both loved their sandwiches. For breakfast, my husband and I shared a breakfast egg and ham sandwich and a yogurt parfait. The parfait is served in a large drink cup so it's really big with lots of granola. No fruit though. Son-in-law had an egg, bacon and potato meal with multi colored potatoes. He seemed to enjoy it a lot.

I really want to love Bread and Pickle, but I'm just not sold. Sure, I fit the part: I've got the latest tribal print skirt, some Keen's, and the best librarian glasses to rule them all, but when it boils down to it, all of the people watching in the world doesn't make $25 worth of chips and hotdogs easy to swallow. The service is friendly, quick, and helpful, not to mention there is lots of (relatively) clean seating, but when you add up the price tag for the kind of picnic food you're getting with the 10 minute order wait and subsequent 7 minute prep-time wait, it's just not worth the hassle or time. And speaking of hassle--THE PARKING. We've tried coming to the bandshell a number of times and, regardless of the day of the week, parking is just a beast. All told, come to Lake Harriet for the views and walk and, if you're lucky, swing by Bread and Pickle--but don't make it your destination.

It seems like I have lucked out at Bread & Pickle, compared to the other reviews. And a few times I have LITERALLY lucked out - the first time I came here I found a few dollars on the ground and another time I won on my scratch ticket (I just won $1, but it's better than a stick in the eye). But when it comes to the food and bevies, I have had good experiences. I love the convenience of being able to purchase beer, wine, and sangria here, though a little pricey. And I have totally loved their choices of... bread and pickle. The $2 pickle on a stick is a perfect treat - it's a crips cold deli-style dill, like at the state fair. And I recommended their smoked salmon sandwich - salmon lox, cream cheese, capers, fresh dill, and tomato on a toasted everything bagel. I feel no guilt chowing down on this cheese and carb fest as numerous joggers huff and puff past me. You have to pay to park in the lot across from the bandshell, but it's just a dollar an hour, folks. So feed the meter and wash your pay-to-park pride away with a root beer float.

I came here mainly for the atmosphere (which would be 5 stars!) and decided to grab some lunch. The area is really pretty and it has great views of the lake or of the trees and amphitheater on the other side. The menu is pretty basic and simple, which is nice for a small place in a park. I ordered a deluxe burger and was pretty disappointed. The bread was very dry and they claimed to have special sauce on it but there wasn't much on there so I had to add ketchup and mustard to make it less dry. People I was with ordered wraps and said their wraps were dry as well. Ended up getting popcorn after to snack on and loved the popcorn! I would recommend coming here if you want a great atmosphere and to grab popcorn or an ice cream cone, etc but I wouldn't recommend treating it as a meal because the food seemed dry and pre-made.

Perfect location to feel like you have stepped out of the city. Recommend the black bean burger -

I waited in the wrong line for twenty minutes, not realizing what people were doing. When I walked up there were two lines, and people in front of me were receiving food and walking away. When I got to the window, the girl hands me an ice cream cone, and I told her it was not mine, but I wanted to order a sandwich. This happened three times, before she asked if I had ordered. I reminded her that I just tried telling her the order three times, before she bothered to tell me to go wait in the really long line. On the inside area, there are no sings depicting "order" vs. "pick-up".

We frequent Bread & Pickle a couple nights a month in the summer. Typically we are greeted with long-ish lines at the Harriet Bandshell, but that doesn't deter us. The food, drink, and view more than make up for any wait time. Every time we go we are able to find a spot to sit over-looking the lake and sailboats. We sit and enjoy our drinks at the appropriate tables (as designated by signs) and people watch/gaze upon the water. I typically order the lobster roll or philly cheese steak every time (both excellent choices) and my wife orders the walleye sandwich. We have our stand-bys and they have treated us right every time. A sandwich and sharing a large order of fries, plus a beer or wine (or two) make for a pretty great lakeside night. We will continue heading back to Bread & Pickle as often as we can and we plan on continuing to order our favorites to set up a relaxing evening.

I love the food and beer at Bread and Pickle, but the slow service really overshadows the experience. The lines are always so long and slow and they don't seem to be doing anything about it or providing a good explanation. If the service was faster we would eat here more, but just can't justify waiting in line for so long. Would love to give this neighborhood spot more business! A drink/treat like would be appreciated also!

I really liked this place the first time we visited from Florida. I went back here today and over heard the cashier making fun of me. I let her know that I heard her and told the manger. Don't think I would go back to spend my money there after that.

Location is convenient as you can take a walk on lake and then eat here outside. Food is not that good though, just okay.

For a takeout spot located on a busy lakeside, Bread and Pickle is excellent. I love their turkey sandwiches -- so fresh and lean. Their burgers are also great. The place achieves a good balance between what are certainly competing customer demands for fast food and something healthier.

We've been here probably 7 times already this summer. If it is a nice day, it is great to grab an ice cream cone or a beer and sit by the lake. But coming here for food is not worth it. The service is EXTREMELY slow, the food is less than mediocre, and it always feels a little dirty. We were there last night and ordered a cheeseburger, fries and two glasses of white wine. The line to order had 8 people before me (which I thought was reasonable compared to other lines i've seen)... It took over 20 minutes just to order, then another 30 minutes to get the food. The white wine was warm. The cheeseburgers came out as hamburgers And the kids behind the counter are super nice and attempt to be helpful, but I get the feeling that no one knows what they are doing. So we'll keep going to enjoy a beer and look at the lake, but that's about it.

This place is awesome mainly because of the view of Lake Harriet. Come for a free concert or just to bike around the trail. Bread & Pickle had super long lines, but the truffle popcorn is worth the wait. The black bean burger tasted good but was kind of soggy from being wrapped up! I'd recommend just bringing a picnic and stopping here for dessert or drinks.

Very good for being just a little food place attached to the Lake Harriet Bandshell. They have burgers and ice cream and what have you. Nothing super extrodinary, but yummy beach food. I do find it a bit overpriced though.

Bread & Pickle: why you so slow? You tease me with your wonderful popcorn, and then smash my dreams with horrendously slow service delivered by college kids who would clearly much rather be doing something else. Kicking up the professionalism would go a long way, including your operating hours which seem to change with the whims of whatever jaded undergrad is working on a particular day. I hate that I love your popcorn, it is like crack. But, I'm thinking my addiction isn't worth the completely ridiculous system you have of various windows for order and pick up, other windows which are perpetually closed, and...workers who are so preoccupied living the dramas of their late teens behind the window (why is this window never open?) that one virtually has to be having a heart attack for them to pay attention. TRAINING would go a long, LONG way. In the meantime...I'm trying to get off my popcorn addiction.

Love the location and what this place is all about. Simple food, lots of options, great spot on Lake Harriet. They have several vegetarian options on the menu. They offer a small selection of tasty and uncommon beers - and pitchers! They even sell homemade dog treats. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had any entree that I liked. The egg salad sandwich was particularly odd tasting. The French fries weren't bad and my husband thought the California burger was okay. I really want this place to be awesome, I'm sorry to say that it misses the mark.

  • Ali D.

Sure, there are some flaws, but for a lakeside concession stand, I'd say Bread & Pickle does a fantastic job. The black bean burger is incredible - with whole black beans and visible shredded vegetables, a slight hint of spice, and substantial size, this veggie burger definitely isn't of the microwave variety. The Red Stag truffle popcorn - get it. Just do it. A $3 small bag of it is the perfect thing to munch on while you're waiting for your order to come up. Skip the hummus wrap - tons of shredded iceberg lettuce and runny hummus make for a messy and mostly flavorless meal. B&P also serves reasonably priced wine and beer (with food purchase), Izzy's ice cream, and a variety of other grill items and sweet treats. If you're in the area for a bandshell concert, a day by the water, or a $2 trolley ride (do it!), you'll always be able to find something delicious.

Lake Harriet deserves better. We've been here four times--seriously, we wanted to like this place--but the food and service has been consistently awful. First the food: The egg salad sandwich is bland and forgettable. The hummus wrap is soupy and tasteless. The french fries are like cardboard. The hamburgers are overcooked and lifeless. The brat is edible, but is only appealing in comparison to the rest of the food, which as it should be obvious represents a pretty low bar. We've never been able to try their hot dog, as it's always sold out. (What kind of quick-serve restaurant runs out of hot dogs at 12:30 on a Saturday?) The last straw for us was when we stopped by for ice cream cones. We hadn't had a good experience there yet but figured it was pretty hard to screw up ice cream. Well, when the guy manning the window brought the cones over to us instead of handing them to us he SET THE BARE CONES DIRECTLY ON THE SERVING COUNTER. That counter? Filthy. So, that's a good segue to the service. It's slow, sloppy and disorganized. We'd be OK with a long wait if the food was good, but it's not. The last time we were there the slow service was coupled with extremely aggressive order pick-up announcements--announcements that were repeated even when a customer was clearly walking to the window--that shattered the relative afternoon peace of the band shell area. As said, Lake Harriet deserves better. One doesn't have to look far to see what's possible. Just north on Lake Calhoun the Tin Fish is plagued by slow service, but at least provides delicious meals that are worth the wait. I hope the park board doesn't renew the Bread & Pickle's lease and instead gives some other worthy organization a shot at the location.

Right by Lake Harriet, this is a great option for a snack or small meal after a beautiful day on the lake. The menu consists of sandwiches, burgers, salads, ice cream, and sides such as potato salad, coleslaw, and cheese curds. The cheese curds are delicious. I also ordered the hummus wrap which was good but nothing too special. Prices are affordable. This place is pretty much the only option for food near the lake but it's a nice place to eat.

Stopped in here last weekend looking for a bottle of water before setting out for a bike ride. The worker said they only have water in the refillable stainless steel containers, because they are a "zero waste company". "So what if I wanted to order a soda, what do you serve that in?" asks my wife. The girl shows us a plastic cup. "And do those come with lids and straws?" we inquired, to which she responded with a yes. However, they wouldn't give us water in one of those cups. Baffled as to why we couldn't, we decided to just purchase the stainless steel container and not push the matter, given it was close to 100 degrees out. Their website calls out "zero-waste" twice as well. Yeah, zero waste when it comes to water. Convenient so they can rip customers off on their logo branded containers. What a bunch of phony eco-snobs.

Everything me and my friend are in the mood to get out the house and enjoy nature while eating a snack we go here. We order muffins and they are tasty. The lake scene only helps!!

Pretty long lines, but if you're there for the music and a day in the park, then it's totally worth it since you're just there to enjoy yourself, right?

There are so many lovely things about Bread & Pickle: a beautiful location on Lake Harriet, pretty good food, and dogs EVERYWHERE! If you need to get some pup time in your life, this is totally the place to do it. I had the black bean burger, which is one of the best I've had recently. In terms of drinks, the hibiscus punch was pretty good, though I hate that you can't get water unless you buy one of their expensive water bottles. The only thing I could really complain about was that it took a really long time before they came up to the window and took our order, and my friend and I were left waiting for quite a while. Not sure I'd make a point of coming to Lake Harriet just for Bread & Pickle, but I'll stop by if I'm around!

I stopped by for a quick breakfast this weekend and stood at the "order" window. After about 5 minutes, someone came over & told me I could order at the next window around the corner. Fine but take down the other "order" sign above. By this time, I had seen some blah looking orders come out so just ordered a medium coffee for $2.25. I was served the smallest medium coffee I've ever seen. I asked to be sure it was a medium and was assured it was. In retrospect, I wished I had asked to see the small because it must be adorable.

Where else are you supposed to get your snack fix around Lake Harriet? This place can get super busy on the weekends, but I always get served pretty fast. Last year (2012), they had the most awesome frozen yoghurt which I adored. Now, it is off the menu! I am bummed! Also, the gluten-free cones seem to be missing also. In its place, I tried the sorbet which was not very good and tasted like it had too much fake sugar in it. Popcorn is still pretty good and so are the French fries. I like the fact that this place uses compostable utensils and plastic cups which is very cool for the environment. Bathrooms are typically clean.

  • Glen S.

Yeah, I mean - not as crazy busy as the other lakes in MPLS, but not as great of food. Can't complain about the burgers, fries, ya know - concession stand food.

My bro-in-law and I decided to take advantage of the perfect weather this Saturday to bike along Minnehaha Creek and around Lake Harriett. Lately he has been on a lakeside concession stand kick, so I was happy to oblige a visit to B&P. Unfortunately, we both left disappointed that a place with such a prime location failed on so many levels. First, the line to order is ridiculously slow. It took more than fifteen minutes to reach the front of what was not a long line. Next, the menu items are overpriced and of sub-par quality. My sandwich had zero flavor appeal, and his California Burger looked plain sad. As he put it afterwards, he'd "rather go to McDonald's... the food would be half the price and twice the quality". Two stars for the reusable water bottles and the extra scoop of ice cream they gave me.

There are a lot of food options compared to other spots like this. I ordered The Works burger and I thought it was great! Messy, but good flavor. The fries were thin and crispy just the way I like them! I also shared a lemon ginger scone with my mom and we thought it was quite tasty! The buildings at Lake Harriett are so unique and the fact that we could get more than just popcorn and ice cream made our afternoon visit even more enjoyable.

I went back again and though this time the wait was very short, the food was very....eh. Had an egg salad sandwich that was really bland, dry and tasteless. So what's better, good food that you have to wait for (which is what happened last time) or boring food that you get right away? Neither are great, but I'd take the former if pressed to choose. And seriously, give me some damn water. It's a restaurant. Isn't offering water the barest of all minimums? I still haven't tried that lemon ginger scone. I am pinning all of my hopes on that.

  • Stacey H.

Wow, I do not understand all of these complaints. This is an outdoor concession stand at a bandshell. Given this, the food is awesome, and the view is picturesque. Seriously. I enjoyed the cheese works burger, fries, cripsin, and truffled popcorn. Yum. I will most definitely be back for the food, the movies, the music, and the view - with my dog in tow, of course!

Stopped here for an impromptu date night and ordered a crab cake sandwich, seared walleye sandwich and some large fries. Although the sandwiches were small, they were very tasty although the crab cake oozed out of the overtly small bun and required a fork for eating. Most importantly, the fries are a JOKE! Pale, overly salted, like some unpleasant hybrid of McDonalds (post lard) and those frozen Ore-Ida fries. Really, Kim Bartmann (sp?), I hope you are reading this because the fries are just sad, especially as I know what you can do with them at Barbette & Red Stag. You really need to raise your game here.

A sunny Sunday brought me to Lake Harriet to try the new Bread & Pickle on its first weekend in business. The setting is unbeatable. It's right on Lake Harriet, for goodness sakes! Casual and family-friendly, with the bandshell right next door. The no-frills menu is great for a concession stand, but I was expecting a little more frills given that Ms. Bartmann is behind it. You'll find hot dogs, burgers, black bean burgers (prepared with better ingredients and care than most concessions, of course), but nothing particularly inventive in terms of fixings or sauces. It's solid, albeit safe... and, regardless, it tastes just like summer. I stepped up to the counter and ordered the cheeseworks burger, which came with a tangy white cheddar, chopped lettuce, tomato, special sauce and grilled onions. Kinda like a glorified Big Mac, and totally delicious. It was really good, but an amped-up sauce and more onions could bring it up to a 10 for me. I actually couldn't taste the onions at all and almost went back up to the counter to ask for some until my friend pointed them out (with a magnifying glass). Still, that didn't take away from the fact that it was a fantastically made burger. Yum. We tried to order a basket of cheese curds to share, but they were out so we went with fries, which I wouldn't bother with again. Go for the Red Stag kettle corn with truffle oil instead. That stuff is MIND-blowing. OMG. They serve Izzy's Ice Cream, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, Mighty Leaf teas and little dog treats for the canine customers. I heard they are going to do picnic-style meals once they get into their groove, so I hope that rumor is true. There's a small indoor ordering area in addition to the counter outside, plus outdoor seating only. It's not cheap ($8.75 for a burger a la carte, $7 for cheese curds), but can we really expect anything to be cheap on this real estate? Let's get real.

A perfect date night location for a few girlfriends on a weekday night! Food - eh- it was fine... but the location and atmosphere is what this place pretty darn cute! Crowded in a nice way, not too hard to find a table, but enough for great people watching. Don't expect the type of wait that is at the Tin FIsh, but also don't expect the quality of food either. I ordered the hummus wrap - big and pretty filling @ $5.25 - didn't love it but it did the job. The cheese curds are amazing but a little spendy @ $7 a basket. The burgers looked good - a little more than you would spend at any fast food joint, but cmon, it's lake harriet :) Quick tip! You can get a super cute "Bread and Pickle" steel water bottle for $3... or a soda for $2... or ask and you shall receive - water bottle FULL of soda for the same $3! I'll be back... excited to try some breakfast sandwiches!

There is a lot of room to improve here. The organic egg breakfast sandwich sometimes looks as if it is not fully cooked, but otherwise is ok. The Tree Hugger is B&P's take on the VCCP from The Seward Community Cafe. Ice Cream folr a hot evening of music at the bandshell. Free WiFi. Filtered water bottle refilling station... they also sell metal water bottles cheap to cut down on plastic bottle waste. Great little spot for hanging out at Lake Harriet.

One day, recently, I found myself enjoying the view and the music coming from the shell, and I was about to order some food...again. Fortunately, I ran into the the tramp I'd given my last meal to. He let me know that the burger patty I'd given him had been too tough to eat, but was still in service covering the hole in his shoe, "Wearing like iron" was his exact quote. It was then that I remembered that my $12 burger and fries had been inedible and the ice cream in my root beer float had freezer burn; from your garden variety concession stand that would be bad, but from one that charges nearly $20 for a burger/fries & A scoop of ice cream in a soft drink, that is a simple mugging. Don't bother with this place...my wife had the veggie wrap and it too was awful.

Celebrating a beautiful afternoon and a nice long run, I wanted to grab a burger someplace nearby that wasn't a dirty bar or a fast food place. Enter Bread and Pickle. I had the plain-jane burger, which was well seasoned and served on a big, nicely toasted bun (hear that, burger jones? even a concession stand gets it). A small bowl of red cabbage slaw was two bucks and bigger than I expected, and the small arnie palmer really hit the spot on wash-down detail. I had hoped for a more milfy environment but the weather was a bit on the cool side today, so I settled for a nice breeze and sailboats bobbing in the water. A great place to stop for lunch and get some fresh air.

I love the fact that the Bandshell has food/beverage available now, but have been unimpressed with the food selection. We've tried a number of items on the menu and most are mediocre. Even the popcorn is meh--really oily. Its a great place to grab a beer or ice cream and watch the lake action, but I'd dine elsewhere.

I was uneasy at paying $8 something for a turkey sandwich but it was SO GOOD! It was also a huge sandwich so I guess that's ok. I like that they serve fountain pop but they don't use lid (presumably to save plastic), but that can make it difficult to carry around with you. At $3, it's also a ripoff. I don't understand why they use stamps on their cups either. The ink bleeds and will turn your hand green.

I visited Bread & Pickle for the first time last week. I'm a little surprised by all of the complaints on here, but let me say I also went in with realistic expectations including: 1. This is a lakeside operation which generally means there will be a line and mostly likely it will move slowly because it's a small outfit and they have high school kids running it. I expect this going to any of the waterfront spots, and don't really mind given the great scenery. Don't go in expecting to get immediate service and food. Take a breath and enjoy the fresh air and lake while you wait. 2. Again, this is a small lakeside operation, so I'm not expecting it to be James Beard level food. As long as it's a solid, edible sandwich, that is good enough for me. 3. A broken record here, but because this is by a lake and on prime real estate, yeah they are going to charge a little more because they have a monopoly. Just like you pay more for a house by the lake, you're going to pay more for a burger. If you don't like it, buy a house (or a burger) elsewhere. So, all that said, I had a solid experience at B&P. I got a cheeseburger with fries and a beer. Service was just fine, there was a line, but I expected that, and my food was actually ready a lot sooner than I expected. The burger was actually really good and the fries were delicious as well. Everything tasted hot and fresh. Bottom line, I would go back here for sure next time I am around Harriet, and would recommend to others.

So cute! This place couldn't be more adorable. It reminds me of being at Disney world on Main Street, USA. Perfect, picturesque setting right on Lake Harriet. My boyfriend and I were going to the band shell to watch the Civic Orchestra performance, and grabbed a bite while we watched. So great! I had the hot dog. I consider myself a bonafied hot dog lover. This thing was spectacular. It had that "snap" to it when you bite. Cody had the hummus wrap-- great deal for $6. It was huge, flavorful wrapped in a spinach tortilla. We shared the cheese curds. WOW! They were so so good. And as we walked through the crowed everyone stopped to say "ooooh, cheese curds". So clearly they looked and smelled as good as they tasted. I highly recommend coming out to Bread & Pickle! Great food and cool ambiance on the lake with sailboats cruising by!

We probably come here at least 3 times per month, mainly because the kids love it and it's such a nice little family setting. The food is decent (my wife's go to is the chicken caesar salad) and it's probably expensive for what you are getting, but it's on Lake Harriet and it's a great way to get out of the house with the kids and enjoy the best of Mpls.

My dad and I took a walk around part of Lake Harriett last Saturday and given the nonstop summer heat we are having, we stopped by Bread & Pickle for ice cream. $3 for a single dip of vanilla and as the young man handed me my cone all I could focus on was his very dirty hand and the lack of paper surrounding my cone that the dirty hand was up against. Ewww, I will not be back.

Here's the deal. This place has style and is utterly impressive for a concession stand. The world would, frankly, be a better place if more concession stands were like Bread & Pickle. But, and I'm not being a wise ass here - I want better bread and I want better pickles. I mean, if you're gonna name yourself after something, it better be your best item. The truth in advertising angle here should have their name be: Fancy Sign and Much More Style Than a Normal Concession Stand. But, that doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Love the filtered bottle water refill station concept - but.... they shouldn't require that you buy a aluminum water bottle (or have one) just for water. If you ask for a cup of water, any restaurant in which you've just bought $14+ worth of food should give you a damned cup of water. And when you balk then they shouldn't get all super high and mighty about the environmental concerns (they don't seem to have those when serving other drinks in disposable containers...) This is - and I want to capitalize this for dramatic effect - especially true when their paper napkins are from Georgia-Pacific -- aka The Koch Bros. So, they're handing the biggest RWNJ Activist Anti-Environmentalist and funder of Climate-Change Deniers in America (except for, maybe, Exxon) while copping an environmentalist stance. And when you tell them this, they should, you know, respond. Not awesome bread. Not awesome pickles. Hollow environmentalism. It just rings a little hollow. Nice font on the sign, though!

I was very displeased with my dining experience tonight. It was my first and last experience at your establishment. We had out of town guests and they were very, very unimpressed. First, the line was way too long and yet there was only one window open. Secondly, there were no hamburger buns even though 90% of your sandwiches require buns. The substitution of sour dough bread was really a poor one. Thirdly, the portion size was ridiculous for the price. I essentially paid $10 for a half sandwich which was cold and clearly made long before it was sold. Lastly, the ice cream which they claim to be from Sonny's and Izzy's clearly isn't. Just from looking at it we knew it wasn't from either of these local establishments. When I asked, I was informed that most of the ice cream you serve is actually Cedar Crest. Yet, Cedar Crest is absent from your menu. Amazing. It really felt like an attempt to deceive their customers. I would suggest that they either serve what they state they are serving or change their menu immediately. When we got home, we looked up the ingredients for Cedar Crest ice cream. How they can try to pass that crap off as an organic, local brand is really pathetic. In essence, we left hungry, dissatisfied, and our pockets were much emptier than the value we received. Frankly, I could have had a more enjoyable and satisfying meal at McDonalds. It's unfortunate that the Park Board made the decision to award the contract to Bread and Pickle. This is not the experience the residents of Mpls are seeking. A real disappointment. As a long-term Mpls resident, I think we should join forces to shut this joint down. Awful. 1 star is too generous. If you are wise, you won't spend your hard earned dollars here.

Need a casual place to grab a bite to eat after a walk around Lake Harriet? Look no further - Bread & Pickle is your place. The food is, well, mediocre relative to the price you're paying. But for the cute atmosphere I guess it's worth the additional mark-up. I had the California burger and at $6.75 it wasn't anything to write home about. In fact, had I added a basket of fries the price would have been the same that I would have paid at any bar and grill - except the food would have been a little better. BUT, what does this place offer that your average bar and grill does not? The opportunity to gaze longingly across the lake while a fresh breeze blows through your hair, all the while thankful for that fact that winter is still a few months away. You just can't beat that! As an added tip - time it right and enjoy live music after you eat for the perfect date night!

The location almost bumps it to 4 stars, I would love to be able to give it 3.5 stars. I tried their cheeseburger and my fiancee got the california burger. Their special sauce I believe is catsup and mayo. The burger was tastey and moist and I'm of opionon that they use fresh ground beef. If they use frozen patties, color me impressed. It is nice to have a lake that has option beyond fish nearby, although I think overall I like the fish places better. But Lake Harriet is quieter han Calhoun and parking is easier than Minnehaha, so this works well. Fries are nothing special, a small order will feed 2. I believe these are just frozen fries they deep fry. Fresh cut fries would be killer. All their packaging is biodegradable and can be put in nearby compost bins. No need to bring outside fast food if you want to picnic at Lake Harriet, it fits the bill. I would like to see them maybe get a little more inventive, maybe some fancy cheese options for my burger or something.

Well, it's September and the Lake Harriet Bandshell is probably closed for the season :/ Oh well, here's my belated review- Bread and Pickle, which replaced the old concession stand at the Bandshell, is pretty good all around. The quality of the food is probably better than what had preceded it- a lot of focus on sustainable/organic ingredients, etc. When I first saw that Bread & Pickle had replaced the old-school bad-for-you and dirt-cheap Lake Harriet concession stand, however, I just let out a big sigh and thought, that's it, Minneapolis is totally gentrified. Well, that was after I spent five minutes laughing at the goofy name. What are you trying to imply, Bread & Pickle owners? I haven't actually tried any of the food there so can't pass judgment on that. And although I was initially shocked at the change of ice cream menu items (how could they callously eliminate the cookies-and-cream flavor? And what about peach frozen yogurt?), the ice cream that they have now is actually quite delicious. The strawberry flavor is just divine- real strawberries and creamy silky texture. (Apparently it's Izzy's Ice Cream?) Plus the serving cups and spoons are biodegradable, and there are special trash containers to recycle them. Overall, I like it. A concession stand with an environmental conscience? I'll be back next summer.

So, the location couldn't be better, the food is reeeeal tasty and local, and the packaging is biodegradable (this would be the abridged version of the review). So being on Lake Harriet and right next to the band shell as absolutely awesome. It's technically a concession stand but they serve a few different burgers, ice cream, and some sides. As the previous reviewers have also stated, nothing too crazy here. Although, I did read on their website that their menu apparantly changes every two months (april/may, june/july, aug/sep). So even though it's nothing too crazy, the taste of it all is splendid (if you had to skip the fries though it might be a good call, not so great.) The price on the food isn't the greatest, a bit spendy for a concession stand, but their entire menu is on the website so check it out. (I had the deluxe cheeseburger and absolutely loved it. Toasted buns? Hell ya.) The thing that made me give this place one more star (that makes 4) is their commitment to sustainability. All of their ingredients are local (awesome) and their cheese comes from the great state of Wisconsin (even more awesome). So this is one reason why the prices could be a little steep. Also, they have separate buckets for stuff that is biodegradable, reducing the waste entering the trash stream (awesomest). So really the only cons are the lack of any signature item and a couple extra bucks are going to be spent compared to any other concession but still awesome none the less.

What's not to love about great food at Lake Harriet! Grab a burger and take a walk around the lake. I went there on a Friday night and there were quite a few others enjoying the nice evening. Their fries are very similar to Barbette's and their Lemonade is freshly squeezed. I got the Cheeseworks Burger. It was ok, but the fries and lemonade were amazing. It is a bit spendy ($15 for a burger, fries and drink). Next time I may just grab a lemonade and some ice cream instead of a dinner. I would definitely recommend this stand to anyone.

Staff is friendly, but that's about the best this place has to offer. All about location! Over priced, mediocre. Skip the 5 dollar French fries and the 4 dollar plain hot dog. They should change their fryer grease more often as well. Avoid if possible and save your bucks. This place blows.

The food is good. The prices are high. The service is excruciatingly slow. I get that they are trying to help with the metal containers (that they force you to purchase with your water) - but not everyone likes to drink out of metal.

Ok, I had high hopes for this place but it failed. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich and I took one bite and the turkey had so much black pepper on it that it was way too overwhelming tasting with black pepper baked in the turkey. It wasn't good at all. My friend ordered the grilled cheese and she said it was nothing special and flavorless. It wasn't worth the $5.25 that it cost. I ended up just eating some popcorn. I would only order popcorn and ice cream when I return to Lake Harriet. The food is way over rated at Bread and Pickle.

We expected a lot more out of this place based on who opened it. The menu is not interesting or creative. The food was horrible and horribly expensive. I had the hummus wrap which was more like a bunch of drippy dressing soup in a wrap and my man had the ham sandwich which was on stale white bread with very poor quality fatty ham for over $8. No chips, no pickle, nothing with anything. The iced tea I had was basically water. A total disappointment. We spent the rest of the afternoon hungry and trying to find something to eat (we ended up doing happy hour at Obento-Ya. yum.) We will fare better next time to bring our own picnic as we won't stop back here. I suppose if you like paying tourist prices for underwhelming food, this would be the place to go. No.

This used to be a cool low key place with a camp like feel. Now it's gone high end (read expensive). I wouldn't mind if the now twice as expensive food was good. It is not. The also pretend to be green. Seems to be a marketing decision. What really irks me is that even if you buy food they will not give you a glass of water. They'll sell you a reusable water bottle instead in an effort to save plastic and trash. However, you can buy fountain drinks in a regular cup which makes the policy seem hypocritical. On the positive, it's nice to have food near the stage. But if want quality, go to linden hills.

    The popcorn is unreal...

Way to spendy for the food they offer. The food was "ok" but for how spendy 2 cheeseburgers with fries, 2 cokes and cheese curds we could have ate at a sit down restaurant instead. Our total bill was around $30.00. I would get maybe an ice cream cone or popcorn in the future but that's about it. Not worth the money.

Not great! Overpriced and low quality. Had to repeat our order multiple times and it still came out wrong. So disappointed. Wish Sea Salt could have moved in.

I had high expectations and was disappointed. I thought the quality would be more like Sea Salt at Minnehaha falls. The burger tasted like a standard overcooked industrial food service burger and it was over priced.

I was so looking forward to good food at the Lake Harriet bandshell. Calhoun and Minnehaha Falls have decent food now. And with the excellent concerts at Harriet, I would think that quality food would be profitable here. Sadly, Bread & Pickle is like Wonder Bread doused in plain white vinegar. The menu has nothing more interesting than your basic burger, fries, popcorn, and ice cream that you'd find at any rec center snack bar. Previews hinted at a more interesting selection, but didn't make it to the actual menu. Considering the execution of the cheeseworks burger, maybe it's just as well that they weren't more ambitious. An overcooked thin burger on mushy bread, runny sauce with no tang, which only contributed to the mushiness of the bread. Prices are fairly steep - for $8, I expect a burger to be better than IckDonalds, and offer condiments like mustard and onions to at least try to improve it. Maybe the concessionaire can improve over the season, or maybe the city can find a better partner next year.
