I usually go here for friends birthdays. The downstairs is usually packed. It was hard to get a drink downstairs on a Saturday night. Last weekend I got turned away because the bouncer didn't like my pants. It was my friends birthday so I was dressed really nice. But overall it is an okay atmosphere and the drinks are a little expensive.

To start, I'm not sure if I should blame management or the server but our service was slow and our orders were horribly screwed up. Two or our three entres were incorrect. We were not the only ones with screwed up orders. Our section had many of them and the food runners were so lost, we were offered food that wasn't our tables at least 2-3 times. They served us the wrong beers as well. The food was average at best. One exceptional thing is there beer selection and specials. We ordered some commonly top tier craft beers at most restaurants and only paid $4 for each beer. I would not go back again. There are plenty of other great places to eat near Target Field and the Target Center that are much better and worth trying.

Very rude. Waited standing at the bar for 20 min. Never did get a beer. Will never return

Skeptical to visit 508 for a Badger football game Saturday night. Partially because, well badger football, and partially because I envision 508 as the place I coveted as a 21-year-old last bar-stop on a night long dance excursion. But, my expectations were exceeded by far! 1/2 price appetizers. $3 beers (or so I think). We were full (nachos were the bomb.com ) off of less than $20 each. Favorite part of the night was the 11:30pm time when the first underage gal walks down the stairs ready to get her dance on; and is surprised with a sea of red Wisco hoodies. Gotta love football season!

The last time I stepped foot in 508, I was in my early twenties, from "California," sorta dating this cute sorority girl from Alpha-something something at UW-Madison, and visiting the Twin Cities during the Winter holidays. As a young-gun, I tried to werk (work) it at clubs every weekend, and I admit, I've spent a few stupid nights at 508 booty-shaking with rhythmless women that wore high heels so large that they made themselves look like they played the two position (shooting guard) for the Minnesota Lynx. Have you ever tried putting your arms around a girl that's a foot taller than you? I have and it's not easy, yo. #goodtimes A decade later, I roll with a serious boo/ potential future wifey and spend a shameful number of hours burning my retinas watching Netflix instead of partying and slamming drinks. Yet, the universe has magically guided me back to this dank basement for my 10-Year high school reunion. What are the f****** chances of that happening? Pretty slim, really. And about my reunion, some things from high school apparently do not change: -Cliques still remain like that scar you got from hella scraping your knee while running on that blacktop during recess in middle school. -Awkwardness, in all its forms, still looms like a smelly fart in a poorly ventilated room. Thanks for that nasty-assness, Jacob L... -No one gained like 100 pounds (everyone surprisingly looks pretty much the same). Damn you, Showtime movies. Damn you. Like my high school reunion, 508 hasn't changed a bit, either: -There are still some hits and misses with the food. For example, they have pretty decent pulled meats, but they use grocery store buns. Not so great quesadillas. -It seems like almost every girl that's about to get married drops by 508 for her bachelorette party. On Saturday, I had this girl drunkenly murmur to me, "I'm frommmmm Manitoba. Would you like to danceeeeeeee with me?" I replied, "Yo, I'm cool. Thanks, though." I'm pretty sure I met a girl from Manitoba a decade ago. It's totally possible, it's the same girl. However, she would've been, like, 15 back then, so probably not. -Drinks are cheap, but they won't get you drunk. I'm not sure how many rum and cokes and glasses of white wine I downed -perhaps six or seven total- within a three-hour span, but it was a lot. (How else are you supposed to navigate through awkward moments without any liquor? ) Despite my attempt to become inebriated, sadly, I could still read and text messages on my HTC One and order a Lyft back home. This is also coming from a lightweight. And by lightweight, I mean my mom can drink me under the table. -The music is either really dope or super whack. In other words, one night you may have the pleasure being serenaded by R-Kelly's "Bump and Grind" followed by amazing slow-jam after amazing slow-jam, or have your ears bleed by listening to five electronic remixes of some N-Sync song that never was relevant in the first place. Nevertheless an electronic remix... (BTW, I think I saw Joey Fatone -Googled his name, k?- on an infomercial now. Wow, times are rough.) Like the Vikings' quarterback situation, you never know what's going to happen. Seriously, f******* Josh Freeman starting at quarterback for our game versus the Giants? WTF. All-in-all, 508, like my high school reunion, was neither absolutely awesome nor abhorrently awful. Although, I would consider giving half a star (if I could) because I haven't heard Juvenille's "Back Dat Azz Up" in, like, foreverrrrr.

I'm a regular here. The lunch punch is a nice deal if you eat there often enough. And a happy hour that starts at 11:00? Yes, please. Staff is friendly and responsive. They changed thier menu recently. The prices bumped up a bit and they got rid of a BBQ steak item I liked. Please bring that back! Other than the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, it was my favorite! Speaking of buffalo, I'd reccomend getting the fried version of that sandwich instead of the buffalo wings. The wings taste off. The sandwich is awesome. They also have a lunch special once in a while deal where they fry the chicken up like that in a buttermilk sauce instead of buffalo and it's delicious. The weird wings and the takin the steak off is the only reason I can't give this a 5 star. I wouldn't let that stop you from checking this out for lunch.

This is what you do. 1. Show up during happy hour 2. Pick one of their 20+ tap beers for $3 3. Repeat step 2 desired amount of times 4.Order the Buffalo Chicken Wontons, and maybe some bacon wrapped shrimp at $3 off menu price. 5. Wonder why you don't come here every day because this is one bomb a&& happy hour 6. Repeat as often as you can The end.

508 is a nice spot. I'm in town just for the evening and stopped by here for a bite and a drink. Priced very reasonably, I decided to get the roasted duck salad which comes with very thinly sliced apples, and corn bread coupons. It's really great. I also grabbed a Knob Creek Manhattan which again was made appropriately and priced reasonably. The bartender was super informative and friendly. Not fake nice either, just real and helpful. Only downside? While the bourbon selection is good (knob, trace, markers, bulleit) the scotch selection wasn't amazing. They have Glen Levit, Glen Fid, Dewars, and jonnie red and black. Not terrible, just a little generic. Overall, I'm a happy camper. Would come back no question.

This is a good place to have lunch if you are downtown, or if you work downtown and need lunch options. Very close to Target Field and Butler Square building. It's obviously popular because when I went it was packed at 11:30am, and they open at 11am. I had the Jalapeno Mac and Cheese burger - it was terrific! A round piece of fried mac and cheese placed right on top of the burger makes for a delicious and interesting twist on your average burger. The fries are delicious - lots of garlic and herbs sprinkled on top. Had a side of blue cheese dressing but this burger also comes with ranch. I think the jalapenos are actually inside the meat patty, because I didn't see any actual jalapenos on it. The only negative thing I will say was that service was extremely slow. Took forever to order our appetizer. We ordered cheese curds for an appetizer, and after she brought them out, our server disappeared and came back about 25 minutes later to take our actual lunch order. This made for a very long lunch hour (or two) but it was worth it - the food was great! I'd go again.

I had some apprehension about visiting 508 but, after factoring out the 92.7% of the reviews that began with the term(s) "Twins game"," bachelorette", or "dance", I determined that it was worth a shot. I was also coming from a beer hall right across the street that had been a total disappointment and was leery of being let down again. Upon entering we noticed that there was only one other customer in the establishment which made me doubly cautious. We sat at the bar and shook off the cold and were immediately welcomed by Mike, the bartender... What a relief. Mike explained as kindly as he could that, since it was New Year's Eve-eve, most people were lying low, resting up for the big festivities to come. I found it unimaginable that people wouldn't come out the night before to test the waters and do a little pre-planning but that's for another time... I loved the extensive collection of beer and was impressed with Mike's knowledge about each one. He let me taste a few brews to narrow down my selection (I thought that, had I tasted a few more, I might not need to order one!) witch I loved. My date and I had only planned on one beer each before heading out but found the banter with Mike so enjoyable that we ordered two appetizers and stayed a little longer! The upstairs bar/dining area has a nice look. Rough sawn wood on the walls and clean lines all around. I can't speak to the "dance" area downstairs or any of the Twins game crowds but I would say that the 508 was a great stop on a cold night in downtown Minneapolis.

Great sports bar. Large room, big tables and booths, large downstairs area and bar. Televisions everywhere. Parking on the street or local lot. Near Target center and Target field. Very friendly staff. During low traffic hours you seat yourself. Food was excellent bar food. The juicy lucy was great. Not too greasy. Bacon was excellent. The side salad was upscale for a sports bar. Excellent. The other burger was the jalapeño mac and cheese burger. So delicious but a few extra jalapeños on the side for those of us who like more heat would be a good thing. Price was low for the quality and quantity of food. This will be our first choice for food when downtown for a game.

I love this place! Came here to celebrate my b-day twice. The music was more 90s/throwback/current pop, which I like- though if you come too often, you'll notice they could change it up more with different songs. The service upstairs is good and prompt. They made my midori sour on the spot, and other drinks well. It's always clean here and never too stuffy (downstairs). This is my go-to for dancing and good drinks. The crowd is good and the place doesn't draw ratchet folks.

I've been here twice and both times I wasn't that impressed. I hate that they have a limited menu before games or events. I really don't understand why places do that. I'm pretty sure I got the Veggie burger when I went here and it was so so.

Apparently a State Issued ID is not a valid form of identification for this place during the night scene. After waiting for 15 minutes in the cold we finally reached the door. The bouncer looked at my ID and said he could not accept it and only accepted drivers licenses and passports. When I asked him why he couldn't accept a State Issued ID he would not explain to me why he couldn't accept it even though I have gotten into 508 plenty of times before just fine. We were not drunk, we were not being rude, nothing! They will never receive my business again!

This was my second time at 508, the first being for a sorority formal. The sorority formal was surprisingly lots of fun- they booked the entire downstairs and staffed the bar with great, friendly bartenders who didn't mind the college kids invading their space. Would recommend it for renting out for private events where you plan on getting very drunk. The second trip, this past weekend, was a lot more crazy, though. The downtown crowd on the weekends is always too much for me to handle. Call me uppity, but it's a lot of people coming in from trashy suburbs on party buses, dressing up way too much, and having way too much to drink. Ladies, if you can't walk in heels sober, you shouldn't wear them when you're drunk. I literally saw three different couples making out on top of each other in booths here. Classy. But that's not 508's fault... The dance floor is VERY fun. It's not too crowded surprisingly, except it weirdly reminds me of a junior high school dance, minus the Axe deodorant and popped Hollister polos. The DJ was pretty good, mixing a lot of current stuff with some moombahton beats... even a little dubstep (I mean, some people like that). For some reason there was a bunch of midgets in the front of the crowd, which was a little distracting. Actual midgets... everyone is welcome at 508! Drinks are a fair price. One last thing- we were sitting upstairs at one of the wraparound booths, and our server seemed either extremely irritated with everything. I asked her if they had Summit and she said she wasn't sure... what? If you don't know the beers, have a list on you, or something. We ordered fries, which were good enough to soak up the alcohol. I'm sure I'll be back to 508, but it's not the first place I'd suggest to go out to. I've heard good things about their food (burgers, especially). It's pretty similar to the rest of the downtown bars (but I do like the dance floor).

Lexi & Kate excellent - outstanding servers. The food is excellent - better than bar good in the bar. Buffalo chicken wontons. Flank steak salad. Even the coffee is good. The service is over-the-top good. Friendly, helpful, professional and attentive.

Waitress was rude. After sitting there for twenty minutes without a menu I spoke to the waitress about a menu and turning down the fan since it felt like a hurricane. She said she would be right over. Ten minutes later, still no menu and no one to adjust the fan so I had to adjust it myself. Of course as soon as I hopped on the chair to turn down the fan she came running over and told me to get down... Still with no menus. Would not recommend this place based on customer service.

Wish I can leave 0 stars. They won't accept my friend's foreign ID and my Minnesota Instruction Permit. That is my only legal ID as my MN ID has been clipped. It's from the DMV so it doesn't make sense!!!!

Music sucked: -It was all over the place (so was the crowd btw) and at times everyone just stopped moving on the floor because the parts of the mix was so undanceable-to -My legs mostly dance-twitched in awkward motion the whole night because my tolerance was somehow inconvenient high and wouldn't let me get wasted enough for this music challenge Plus 1 star for misc service: -Bouncer let me in with my cut-up/void ID -Coat check girl giving me free coat check out of pity after I tried to stuff/hide my coat in my friend's jacket sleeve

The decor really hasn't changed much from when I used to frequent here back in the day as another establishment. I do think the food is much better here at the 508! I ordered a delicious summer salad with some roasted chicken nachos. The nacho appetizer is enough to share with a few people, but the smoky flavor from the chicken had me grabbing for more. Next time I plan on trying buffalo chicken wontons and rosted red pepper cheese dip with chips appetizers. I assume both of these will go well with the cheap happy hour specials before my next Twins game! I'll be back.

I have only been to the 508 one time, and honestly I probably won't go back. I was out with a couple friends and we met another soiree of our buddies that were out and said they were "downstairs". Little did I know what I was about to walk into. I don't really go to "party" scenes or clubs at all, and the basement of 508 seems to be the worst most cliche of them. I was already fairly drunk when I got there. The drink I ordered tasted off (I think they used bitters instead of gingerale with my Jameson. The shame). And once I was there in the midst of this crowd, I went from fun-loving having a good time, to the type of drunk where you see people for what they really are: animalistic mammals. That is what the patrons at the downstairs of 508 brought to mind. Not my kind of people. Well anyway, that didn't last long when another friend showed up upstairs and swept me away. I would go back, but only stay in the upstairs portion.

Not bad. No cover, $2 coat checks. This review is only regarding the nightlife. Crowd is on the younger side, drinks aren't too expensive. They push all the tables out of the way downstairs to make a decent sized dancefloor. Good mix of music, top 40 pop with some old favorites in there too. I wouldn't mind revisiting this venue.

We went here before a Lynx game. Based on the online menu and reviews we expected better food. It's a bar geared toward large crowds that serves average food. we had a salad with chicken and a burger. iceberg lettuce, three strips of chicken and bad dressing. the burger was probably tasty but hard to tell given the large glop of Mayo? on it. There are a lot o great choices around Target center and field, if your looking for a bar, this is your place. If youo want food, go elsewhere.

By far the worst place I tried in Minneapolis. The first time we went, I had the worst pulled pork sandwich ever made. It was so dry and tough, I felt like I was eating beef jerky on a roll. I found it odd that we were the only people in there on a Thursday night, but now I know why. Unfortunately I made the mistake of giving this dump a second chance. Two nights later, we went with a small group of people for a few drinks before we caught a show around the corner. We hadn't started drinking yet, but we are a group that likes to have fun and laugh with each other, which is apparently against the policy of the 508. Before we took a sip of our first drinks, the douchebag manager came over to our table and told us they would not be serving us anymore. For what? Still do not know. The condescending prick would not get into that. Now I understand why the place never has any patrons. They all go a couple doors down to the loon cafe where the food is great and the service is even better. Screw the 508 for however much longer they stay in business. It's only a matter of time before the terrible service and even worse food forces them to close their pathetic doors.

Perfect place to stop in before a twins game. $3 tall boy domestics. Very very nice staff, attentive to your needs. The bartender we had downstairs have us multiple samples of whatever tap we wanted. Always low key/chill downstairs. I had the food twice. First time a large, juicy, flavorful burger. 2nd time buffalo wings. Wings were slightly better then average, crispy. This is an easy choice for anyone going to a twins game looking to have a cheap drink or two in a nice, not over crowded atmosphere.

My co-workers and I stopped here for lunch the other day on a whim. One of us (me) had a 5-star experience, one had a 4-star experience and the other had a 3-star experience. So I've averaged our respective experiences. The funny thing is, Mr. 3-star and I ordered the same thing--so in this case, I think it comes down to preference. The item in question: the duck salad. For me, the duck was wonderfully crispy and moist and chewy and toothsome. To him, it wasn't tender enough and the crispy bits seemed "burned" to him. They were cooked the exact same way. Then again, I'm a gal who will eat the crispy skin off a turkey--I love that slightly-caramelized, totally perfectly rendered, melt-in-your-mouth taste. The rest of the salad was crisp and fresh, and the cornbread croutons were delightful as well.

My buddy and I went here after a Twins game and it was packed. We were seated at a table and we had tickets for the Twins game so we got 2 for 1 Pabst big boys. She brought us some ice cold glasses which was cool. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad, which was really good. The leaves were awesome quality, and my friend got the hamburger. We were both very happy. I know a friend of the owner and this place was a happy place to go after a Twins game.

Rude Bartenders. Extremely rude, to a point where we felt uncomfortable and went downstairs to the dance floor to avoid the one bartender who was blatantly talk crap about my boyfriend who made a comment to HIS FRIEND that she didn't like. He even went to apologize her, and she was still not being very pleasant (I'm being nice...there are some choice words that can be used to describe her). This is all over something she over heard that she didn't like. SERIOUSLY?! I'm getting all riled up thinking about it. I complained to their bouncer, mostly because I couldn't find the manager. Chances are he did nothing about it. The place itself is nothing special..the dance floor got crowded real fast and the drinks were average prices, which the exception of a $2 tall boy with your baseball game ticket from the same day. Needless to say, I had a really hard time enjoying myself during our first night in Minneapolis due to the bartender.

The gist: If you are not a Wisconsin fan, read my previous review for a more comprehensive look at the 508. If you are a Badger fan, welcome home. Fellow Badgers, we totally upgraded when Rosen's closed and the 508 became the new Badger bar. I need to preface this (again) by saying I do not like this place for regular nightlife. It's not my cup of tea. Not one bit, and that's why this ends up being a three-star rave-review. Badger games transform this place into a sea of red 'Sconnies. Their ability to keep up with that kind of crazy deserves nothing less than four-stars. Maybe even five. Plus, the chicken strips. Good gracious they are delicious. I was here for the Nebraska game a couple of weeks ago and it was crazy-busy, but we still managed to get drinks and food in a timely manner from the bartenders and our server (despite not even having a table). I hope they order some more pitchers though, because they kept running out (in case you didn't know, UW alums like beer). As I mentioned in my previous review, the Summit beer-battered chicken strips are off the hook. The garlicky, herby fries too. The nachos are big enough to share with a ton of people---you will likely want the chicken all to yourself. During games, all the apps are 1/2 off, so you can get as many as your little heart desires.

Worst excuse of a Bloody Mary ever. No pickle even, just olives, lime, lemon, and watered down V8 juice and vodka. Yuck! Decent happy hour deals, though.

Ok, I used to come here all the time with my friends for happy hour that was probably two years ago. They had amazing happy hour on beer and $5 food selections. I went there one night before the Twins game and they removed the happy hour! I was disappointed ;( All they had for special was 2 for 1 drinks if you had your twins tickets...so make sure you to see if there are any games going on... server was a little slow during the game...

This review is only for the 508 as the official UW Badger Bar. 508 is a great spot to watch games. The crowd is mostly fresh grads. The restaurant is nicely decorated and there are TVs everywhere. It's rather spacious but can fill up quickly during big games so you wan't to get there very early, especially if you want a seat. They have a lot of great food and drink deals going on during badger games. You can get a good beer for $4 and a bad one for less, well drinks are $3. ALL appetizers are 50% off (which come out to about $5) and are large in portion. I enjoyed the chicken fingers and herb fries but the queso fundito was just melted velveeta with some peppers that solidified in about 7 minutes. It was gross even though it had such potential because the chips were great (minus the corn that they threw on top for who knows what reason). If you want Mexican, go for the quesidilla, which looked rather good. Also, one of my friends ordered their brat special and said it was great. Service was also pretty good. Although the place was packed, our waitress checked back in frequently.

I distinctly remember coming here on the night of the BCS Championship (Notre Dame vs. Alabama, a slaughter by the South) and being extremely hungry after 90 minutes of extreme wallyball at the nearby Lifetime. The game night hype was limited to about 20 people: this place was dead. That being the case, I was expecting decently speedy service. From the looks of things, a lone waitress was servicing the entire restaurant, which is not unreasonable when only three tables are filled. I knew something was amiss when the table next to us (co-workers who had arrived much earlier) were getting their food 10 minutes after we ordered. That kicked off a 20+ minute waiting period for our food. I'm as patient as the next guy but it was noticeably slow. When my BBQ Chicken flatbread did arrive, I ravenously tore into it. I will characterize the overall taste just as my entire review, "meh." The chicken was dry, and I did not get frequent water refills, though in the waitress's defense, and using her words, I was "drinking like a camel." On another night, I might like this place better, but slow service and flat food when you are really hungry do not inspire glowing reviews. On a weird side note, I would love to know what kind of amazing potpourri they use in their bathrooms. It seriously smelled like a Yankee candle store in there.

We visited the restaurant after the Holidazzle Parade on a Thursday night. The crowd filled the upper level and the service was very good. I went for the light sandwich since there is nothing better that a grilled cheese sandwich. I decided to pay the extra cash for a little protein. Little is right! Save your money, the extremely thin slice of turkey wasn't worth the money. Besides the plain old grill cheese was very good. It was a bit noisy but I enjoyed watching he several sporting events on the numerous flat screens. I have been to the 508 near the airport and rated liked the atmosphere much better but the transformed Old Chicago Downtown was worth a second visit. Watch out for the high booths. I almost took a wrong step and fell flat on my face. I bet stepping off the platform booth after a few cocktails might prove interesting.

I've been here for happy hour a couple times. 2-4-1 drinks, so I can't complain about that. Kind of weird though because they literally bring them both at the same time, so unless you drink pretty fast it's had to do if you don't like warm beer. It is a super long happy hour, I think it goes until 10pm or something. I think I had some food late night here once, however I don't really remember & likely it was a drunken food fest making that opinion invalid.

I've stopped by the 508 a couple times now before shows at First Ave and the Target Center. The first time I sat outside on the sidewalk a few months ago and the second, just the other night in the lower level bar/dining area. First off, I rather enjoy the layout changes that were made from the previous establishment. The space is now much more open and airy which really helps the atmosphere. The ceiling in the basement was also raised which really cuts down on the claustrophobia. Finally, the menu was overhauled to provide more of a complete dining experience rather than offering mainly drunk munchies. Both of my experiences were pleasant enough and I would probably rate this place higher if it weren't for the subpar service. The other night was a busy one in downtown Minneapolis. There were concerts at First Ave, Mill City Nights and the Target Center. All of these venues are within a block of 508 so the place was certainly jumpin', but by no means overwhelmed. Upon arrival, myself and 5 friends waited for at least 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken and then another 15 minutes before we actually received them. This was pretty much the M.O. throughout our stay. In fact, our server used the adjective 'clusterf*ck' several times to describe our surroundings. I'm sorry, but you're a downtown bar in the heart of the Minneapolis nightlife, it is crucial that you know the event schedule and staff accordingly. All in all, the 508 has a good model for a great establishment. The food is above average and they have a decent cocktail menu and a great beer selection. Will I return? Probably. But it most likely won't be my first choice.

Went for dinner before a Wolves game. Waitress was very good, prompt service, couple beverages. Ordered the Tatertot hot dish. Meal took 40 min to arrive. Waitress was really good about checking in still, started worrying about making the game . Food came, casserole had no tatertots on it. Meal was comped but still.

This is a review of the 508's nightlife...not the food. That being said, it's one of the better options for downtown dancing if, like me, you're not a fan of the club scene. You will still get danced on by bros, but luckily it's not too hard to score a big booth to escape into if necessary. I usually end up here on account of it being someone's birthday because it can accommodate large groups and you don't have to pay cover. The DJ plays Top 40s but don't expect him to replay a song (even if it's hours later and it's your friend's birthday) because he doesn't care. (I think I'm mostly annoyed by the manner in which he turned down my request. He was pretty rude.) I don't dish out 2 stars very often, but "Meh. I've experienced better." very accurately describes my feelings about the place.

We went in here after the Twins game last Saturday. It was pretty easy to get a table in the lower level, everything else was a challenge due to them being severely understaffed. Our server took our drink order fairly quickly, but then disappeared for at least 15 minutes before we got them, if not much longer. Then we ordered about 6 different apps. They didn't take too long to come out, but the guy who put them on our table acted like we were from Mars when we asked for some plates and waters. Yes, I know he's probably a food runner but we hadn't seen our server in quite some time so we had to take any opportunity we could. The apps were typical bar appetizers. None of them stood out as being anything special. You do get $2 tall boys with your game stub, which is an ok deal. I'll give it that it's downtown and in the cities. In Milwaukee, most post-game specials are a free drink with you game tickets but that's how we roll down here. :)

Never eaten here, only partied. Great all around dance place on the weekends to have just plain ole fun without pretentiousness and no cover! Decent DJ's play current dance hits, with video displays of music videos. 508 also has a nice size dance floor. That being said, once in a while you're gonna get the typical drunk, douchey, crowded scene with bachelorette parties and "I don't go out much but tonight I'm gonna let it all hang out" crowd...if any of this bothers you, maybe going downtown to dance clubs that have no cover probably isn't your scene. It doesn't make it right, but that's just the way it is. So warning, if you're gonna get in the pool, your gonna get splashed. That being said, it's good all around place with a good vibe to have fun dancing...most peeps that go to 508 are there just to have fun and it shows.

Please don't wear carpenter jeans out to a club. Don't act like it's still 1993 and don't act like you're going to fix anything while you attempt to dance. You are not a DJ if you just play the top 40s (possibly even in the literal current order). (Disclaimer I am not a local, but damn)

Ok - so maybe the late night dance crew thing isn't my scene. But have you ever EATEN at 508? They have awesome food. Yeah, it's a bar menu - but the selections are mighty tasty. My personal fave is the buffalo chicken sandwich. I have dreams about it - it's that good. Their salads are delish, too. And I love their front sidewalk seating - perfect for people watching before a Twins game!

The 508 has become our new BADGER game hangout. This is the place to be to watch the games! The food is surprisingly really good. I love the tater tots, cheese curds and french fries for apps. My salad with walnuts and chicken was excellent. The best part of the 508 is the service. From security at the door to the management to the kick butt wait staff- yes Kelsea- we are talking about you- they are top notch. You have millions of emotional fans and they are always there with a smile. I can't wait for next season.

I went here for a lunch during a weekday with a friend and had a good experience. The staff was nice but didn't seem to go out of their way for anything in particular. I enjoyed a seared Ahi sandwich was was quite large surprisingly and came with fries. The food, in particular the aioli, was the most memorable part of lunch, while the staff and service didn't make the cut.

Smack in the middle of the entertainment hub of Minneapolis sits the 508 Bar & Restaurant. I dined with one other person and to play the Minneapolis burger game we decided to try this Grille's version of the "juicy Lucy" a Juicy Loui. Our Burgers were good tasting and large indeed. I'm going to say I prefer Another Juicy Lucy over this one but this one had all the popular veggie choices stacked on top and that made it special. The establishment is a two story layout with a bar in both levels. I say check it out.

My first and only time in Minneapolis (so far) ended up with me taking the light rail into downtown and wandering the streets, tourist style! I decided to feed my hunger and walked into the next cool looking place I saw. 508 it was. It's definitely a cool little spot. They had some tables and chairs outside and a lot of eating room on the inside. I took my perch at the bar and chatted with the bartender a bit about Minneapolis. I asked for some drink recommendations and he offered me a Jameson Apple Cider mix thingie. Very good!! It was an excellent call and I highly recommend it. I ordered a BBQ Chicken flatbread and I gotta say, it was freakishly good. Maybe it was my fierce hunger, but that had to be the best flatbread pizza I've ever had. Poor bartender must have thought I was going to eat the plate too by the way I polished off my meal! Next time I'm in Minne, I'm going back for round 2!

I think I'd rather go here than some of the other more on-trend/night-club like bars in downtown. But that doesn't mean I'm a fan. The nightlife here consists of a crowd of college-aged and then much older men trying to dance up on all the females - and no, it doesn't matter if you're already with a guy or dancing with one - another one WILL come up and try to bum rush you. Or actually, you could just simply be walking through the crowd and get bum rushed inappropriately. This place really just isn't my scene. So maybe I'm a bit too harsh on it. But it just seems like another one of those bars that I could see the crew of Jersey Shore having a lot of fun in . . . which means it's great for people watching for me, but not so great for actual enjoyment. One pro to this place: The bartenders are typically fast and consistent.

Completely dead on a Monday night. Good beer selection. Yummy buffalo chicken sandwich. There was this really drunk couple celebrating their birthday, kind of ridiculous.

This is only a review of the basement section, wherein hundreds of energetic, hormonal men and women dance in tiny clumps of humanity and occasionally (as was the case for my friends and me) get hit in the head, punched in the eye, or thrown drinks at. All accidents, but leaves a dent on the experience nonetheless. The dance floor is spacious, and there's a ton of space to move around for sure (which is why it's surprising that we both get hit in the cranium and eye socket; oh wells). The booths are plentiful and spacious, easy for people to just step inside if they're tired from dancing their buttocks for too long, or if the next song is just something they can't groove to. I found that a bit of an issue with this particular Saturday night; the DJ seemed to have some difficulty keeping the energy of the place consistently HIGH (which is how I like my music). I mean, can you really dance to Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me"? Or Miley's "Party in the USA" (OK, maybe you can, but afterwards you must hang your head in shame for enjoying such a blatantly awesome song). Thankfully, a majority of the playlist was solid, danceable Top 40 hits from the '80s, '90s, and today, I say in a Ted Williams voice. Don't know him? Brush up your 2011 pop culture, geez. The drinks were OK, but too much this (*shakes imaginary sugar packet*) and not enough of this (*pours imaginary bottle of vodka*). I like Long Island Iced tea, and not because of the iced tea, let me tell you that. Overall, it's a decent place to be at with friends and comrades.

Make it a stop before the Twins game! (Even though the season is almost over.) They have great deals before the game! $4 bloodies, cheap-cheap beer among others. They also have a good tap selection if you are not into the cheap beer. Nothing you can't find anywhere else, but not things that everyone has. Left Hand Milk Stout, 90 Schilling Ale, etc. They have a decent selection of appetizers and full meals. I had the Turkey Avocado Wrap, trendy right now, but theirs wins my vote! I think what made it for me was the corn salsa that rounded out the whole sandwich. Generally I find them mediocre at best, but this caressed my palate ever so perfectly! There is plenty of room, even before a busy game-day rush. They have generous seating on the main level, with a small patio out front. They do have a second level below, with a dance floor, complete with it's own bar. I have now found a new stop before the game. Playoffs?

No matter what you do this is always the old school Old Chicago. I used to go here when I was in college & it's still the college hangout. However the do have a few drinking game tables which is fun no matter.

Happy hour is great. I like the chicken wings, buffalo chicken wontons and the nachos (they don't have lettuce on them). I came at like 1am once and it was really fully and I was still able to get a drink so that was nice. In addition they have the best hand dryers in the city. They are called the airblade and they are made by Dyson. I'd say it is worth stopping in just for those.

Defenitly love the setting, upstairs bar & lounge, perfect with the hotwings and the chicken lettuce wraps! And when your done-go right downstairs for 2 fully stocked bars, Dj's spinning the current hits, huge dance floor and lounge booths!

Hungry for calamari? I don't care where you think you're going but change your plans and go to the 508 Bar and Restaurant. Stopped in before the Lynx thrashing of the San Antonio Silver Tuesday night. Bar was pleasantly busy. Nice buzz. Sat at the bar and visited with a young man named Joel. Bar tender was Johnny on the spot. My friend and I enjoyed martinis (gin for me, vodka for my friend). Asked for them extra cold and the bar tender complied. Good start. Decided on a pair of appetizers -- the fried calamari and the panko crusted walleye fingers. The walleye fingers and fresh-cut fries were okay...serviceable. Nice crunch on the walleye. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get them again. The calamari on the other hand. Wow. These were barely dusted with some kind of flour and fried just right and served with garlic, herbs, and a very nice lemon aioli. So tender. I have never been served a better plate of calamari in any country...they were that good. So, if you think you've tried calamari and didn't like it, go to the 508. I know I'll be back.

I went to the 508 Bar last night before the Twins game. First of all, they don't offer their happy hour special on nights when there is an event at Target Field. Second of all, they only have a limited menu on game nights, which means about 10 appetizers, 5 salads and 5 sandwiches. I didn't see any entrees on the game night menu, and no desserts! I found the prices very high for bar food. Appetizers were about $10 a piece, and they weren't anything special, just your typical bar apps like nachos and chicken wings. Sandwiches were similarly priced at $10. I ordered their turkey wrap with avocado. It was served warm, which was nice, and had a good amount of corn and thick slices of turkey. It could have used more avocado, since it only seemed to be on one half of the wrap. It was also a little small for $10. In short, it was too overpriced for what you got, in my opinion. Since I'm not a big fan of bar food anyway, I wont' be back.

My wife and I came in on a Monday night and it was a "seat yourself" option. The atmosphere was quiet and the crowd mostly 20's-30's, but again, it was Monday. Our server was excellent. The timing our drinks, appetizer, salads, entrees could not have been more perfect. Our expectations for the food was not that high, but we were blown away at the flavor and presentation. I ordered the Grilled Salmon and my wife had the Sirloin with the Asparagus. Both were very good. We decided to try the place out because of a Crowd Cut deal that we had purchased and would love to go back and experience the 508 again.

I was tres disappointed because I've heard so many good things about this place. But seriously, it for-sure has an identity crisis of the highest degree. The upstairs was nice enough, the decor seemed to be "1st Ave Classy." But then you walk down those stairs into the basement and its one of those gross cement-floored basements that reminds you of a college party gone so, so wrong. The only upside to this was that there were booths on the dance floor so that you could sit and watch. The drinks were strong and well-priced, but I think that this girl is going to start thinking twice before getting cajoled into going out in this area of downtown anymore.

Oh, so happy to discover the 508. Or, rather, finally gotten around to doing so, because it's not like it sprung up yesterday or that it hasn't been within a mile of me for the last couple of years or anything. Right then. Annoying: closed on Sundays unless there's an event. The website doesn't mention this, but when you walk up to the door after craving some bar food all day and find out? NOT COOL, GUYS. But once in the door, we were happy campers. It was a mellow Thursday night, as it should be on a Thursday night with nothing else going on. (We aim for that.) We had the hummus appetizer. It was like a farmer's market exploded on this plate. THE PILE OF VEGGIES, HOLY CRAP. Very tasty. My husband had the Juicy Louie and was in meat heaven, so he proclaimed. Essentially, if you are really craving a heavy, greasy, bar-food burger, this tickled every one of his pleasure spots. The tots were a little too lightly fried but by the second drink you don't notice so much. I had the Greek salad (which I ordered before realizing what the hummus plate was going to look like). I love a good Greek salad and not only did this not disappoint, it came with everything it should have and more. Giant artichoke hearts? YES, THANK YOU. I also had some sweet potato fries. They weren't anything special, just regular fry-like things that happened to be sweet potato. Still, no less tasty. As for their cocktail list, well, it's a bit girly for my taste but this autumn's special infusion was apple & cinnamon Jameson, so I had to try their two seasonal cocktails. Interestingly, they chose drinks that usually take bourbon or rye so I was skeptical. Their Good Ol' Fashioned, wasn't all that fabulous. But the Autumn in Manhattan? Oh that was fantastic. I could drink those all night. Had I not been stuffed with food, I might have. My husband had strong kudos for their regular Manhattan, too. The service was, well, everywhere we turned. Both a server and a manager were stopping by all night to check in with us. We'll definitely be back. These kinds of bars are a dime a dozen downtown, but this is the first that actually impressed me for doing what it's supposed to do as well as it does.

Stopped in to try the juicy Louie (Lucy) that I've heard so much about. I ordered the Louie and I died and went to meat heaven!! The burger was so good that I had forgotten to add ketchup to it....which I never forget! We got there at 5 on a Friday (HAPPY HOUR!! good HP deals) but the place was dead and the service was less than great. The delish food made up for it.

We stopped in here before the hockey border battle at the Target Center. Some of the good things: Happy hour - 1/2 apps and drinks (I think) Close walk to the game. Nice TVs and people watching Nothing really bad about the place, the food was just ok. I guess I'd maybe come back if I was going to First Ave or the Target Center but I'd probably pick the Loon next door more often than not.

508 hits the spot. I was invited to head out to 508 with a bunch of people I'd never met before (an actuary, med student, IT folks from Target, etc.) I was worried that 508 would be one of those awkward, socially pressured clubs with weird crowds and forgettable music. None of the above. 508 was the PERFECT place to drink, talk, and dance with all of my newfound friends. We arrived at 508 around midnight (after a crazy taxi ride with a stoned rastafarian taxi driver bumping marley). No cover, nice. You walk in and it's a tame area upstairs but you creep downstairs and you know you've arrived at a great time. Music: I effin loved the DJ. I measure my DJs by how masterfully you can mix in journey into Kanye. A great mix of hip hop, R&B, and tasteful 80s allowed this DJ to hold the crowd amazingly well. Not one dull moment on the dance floor (other than one techno song to allow everyone to grab a beer). This is music you might find at Tao or Body English in Vegas (no offense DJ Vice). - rating: 10/10 Atmosphere: We got ourselves a nice booth and yes, they are really comfortable and spacious. Great for mingling because they have several steps in front of them and one booth can hold a party of 15 moving on and off the dance floor. Loved the crowd. Nothing too pushy, everyone just there to have a swell time. Frankly, I just wanted to dance (Dane would be proud) and we had space for all that and more. - rating: 9/10 Drinks/Bartenders: I didn't get a chance to sample many of the mixed drinks (other than random girl drinks like red headed sluts throughout the night) nor was I allowed to pay for any of my beers (thanks buddies) but the one nice thing was they had Boulevard on tap. The bartenders were super easy to get a hold of (and I wasn't even busting out of my shirt) and very cordial. - rating: 9/10 based purely on great bartenders. All in all, this was an easy one. 508 didn't provide any heartbreaks so I'm coming back for all the reasons above.

  • Don C.

NOT impressed. You won't be either, especially if you wait in line. The upstairs is nice, lotta booths, and you can actually get to the bar. The upstairs is however, bypassed by everyone headed to the basement. If the college house I lived in had more neon lights, and overpriced drinks, I woulda fealt right at home here. I guess everyone comes here for the dancefloor? Not sure why, when we have plenty of dance clubs going under ALL OVER mpls. More than likely you will come here because "a friend" told you it was sweet. If that friend was a 21 year old girl, you might want to take their suggestions more lightly next time

This is the most average of downtown bars. There's some good beers in their large tap selection, the service is good, and the happy hour is alright. But, again, the clientele and vibe is like a downtown bar.

    (3)
  • Dan S.

As downtown dance clubs go, this one ain't bad. There isn't a cover, and it isn't overpriced. Downstairs has a large and usually crowded dance floor. Upstairs is a little quieter and has a few tables and large booths.

Located in the Old Chicago building, 508 is a newer bar in the Warehouse District. I was very excited to check out the bar because I'd had enough of all those Brother's-type bars. 508 is great. The guys did a great job of remodeling it. Happy hour is fantastic. 2-4-1s and great food specials. Check out the chicken wings and the buffalo chicken wontons. I've never been here when it is super crowded so the atmosphere is very comfortable. The service is great. The waitresses are always friendly and accommodating. They have a great selection of tap beers and a basement with a DJ and ample seating. I hope this bar can stick around for awhile, because it seems like it's exactly what Minneapolis needs. A chill place to go for drinks without feeling inferior to all the young professionals in he area.

I've been to the 508 Bar for a casual happy hour and out at 1 am. Happy hour was great - we had delicious nachos, buffalo chicken nachos and lettuce wraps. Drinks were cheap and my deadbeat boyfriend had lost his ID and she still gave him a beer (granted, he's 26). Service was pretty quick and the place was quiet. I went out there a couple weeks ago, and it was great to see a new place so CROWDED. Then I realized how crowded it was, and how long it took to get a drink (if you read my reviews, I'm very impatient), and promptly left. There was dancing, so if you can get there already drunk maybe you'll fare better than I did. Something that almost earned them another star: In the bathrooms, they have these state-of-the-art Dyson hand dryers. I don't really care that they're Dyson, but they really are quite spectacular. In summary: go for happy hour, or get drunk before you arrive there. And make a stop in the restroom.

As of this weekend, I've been to 508 twice, and I've enjoyed it both times. It's getting three stars because to me, it's the epitome of a three-star spot - the dancing is fun, the drinks are fine and the atmosphere is solid. I've never had a problem having to wait in line at the door or the bar, and both times I've been on the weekends it's been a lively scene without being overcrowded. It's a good spot to go if you're downtown, but I've never been totally "wow-ed" by it. I've never had the food or been in for happy hour, so I can't comment on that.

Old Chicago is a great place for drinks and food after work and ... oops, it is now the 508. The happy hour specials are pretty decent, but can't say much for the scene downstairs. Not the best place downtown for drinks, food, or dancing, but is fairly solid and you know what you are getting into each time. Mediocrity.

Came here because it was really nice out and they had outdoor seating. Some tables with umbrellas some without. Ordered the walleye fingers appetizers and was surprised at how good it tasted, not overly breaded. The fries and sauce were also pretty good. I think there was cilantro or some green herb on the fries which was nice for something different. Main entree was a grilled chicken sandwhich, the bun was a little burnt/crispy in some areas, chicken was decent and moist, chipotle mayo came with and we chose mac and cheese as our side. That wasn't very good. We heard it was homemade so we thought we'd try it. It tasted like something kids would like, all cheesey and proccessed (velveta??) with some extra cheese sprinkled on top.so not very good. service was fine. there weren't too many people here at the time. the waitress was a bit quiet, nice, just doing her job. Overall nothing special. Basic bar food I suppose. probably wouldn't come back here for the food, hmm maybe the walleye appetizer tho.

I hate to poop on the positive parade, but this place is nothing to brag about! Yes, it is large...but seriously, that is the only positive thing I can say about it. I realize that this place caters to 21-25 year olds, and I do not belong here at all, but as I sat there I was wondering if I would have like it when I was in my early 20's. I would be tempted to say no. I also realized that I do not like birthday celebrations for people who are more than about 3 years younger than me, because I end up in places like this. I am going to say that I find it annoying to the point of wanting to take my shoes off and throw them at random strangers when a place is filled with horney, obnoxious frat boys, and dudes that think they are Kanye West. Seriously, those "sunglasses" with the slits on them, they offer no protection from the sun and make you look like a douche. Plus, anyone that wears sunglasses at night and in a club, deserve to lose their eye sight. Any ways, other than the guys that appeared to of come from the shallow end of the gene pool, the girls are even more entertaining! Now listen up guys...if you are looking for some girls that are barely dressed and super needy for attention, check this place out. Wear your "Kanye" glasses, buy a girl a "blow job" shot and you're sure to score!

This is my second time within the last month we have been here and the service has been poor. They need to amp up the kitchen. Took over 30 minutes to get apps (the first time at least an hour and we walked out and cancelled food) The food was cold too and buffalo WonTons were soggy. It wasn't that busy when we arrived at 5:00 either. I've been here several times and think it's gone down hill. There is only one reason our group would come back and it's cause of Nate W. When he's here things are quick and fast.

We watched the Ohio State game last night. Got there after kickoff to avoid the Michigan mishap we experienced last time (read my past review for those details). No Michigan peeps, but a ton of pub crawl girls and boys. One thing I've learned about Minneapolis is the amount of pub crawls that go on here. When is there a weekend where there isn't a pub crawl? Gotta love it. Steak sandwich = get it immediately and enjoy the hell outta it It's the bread. The bread is amazing. But the steak is also shaved and cooked to perfection and the jalapeno cheese sauce is the perfect touch. Fries are cooked well w/ some added flavor accents. Well done. Good drinks. Bloody Mary is on point. Or so I was told by my friends, for I do not drink 'em. However, there is a Bloody Mary bar so you can make yer own concoction on Sundays during the NFL games. So if you're into 'em, you might want to check out their BM bar on Sundays. If you go to 508, ask to sit in Bethany's section. I did not know Bethany before last night, but now we're good friends. She was an amazing server. The pub crawl had obviously kicked off way earlier in the day and they were struggling hard at about 7:30 when we got in there for the game. We sat at the big booth right in front of the stairs, so we inevitably watched everyone go down the stairs to the bathrooms and come back up. Good people watching spot. But when these strugglers came up, they'd stop at the top of the stairs and hug, kiss, grope, sway back and forth, yell, raise their hands in victory, dance horribly... anything, but always in front of us so it made it hard to watch the game. We asked dear Bethany to tell them to move for 508 was worried of their safety in case they fell down the stairs. She moved 'em. The Ohio State game was on the left and right TVs, and the MN Wild was on the center. Didn't look like anyone was watching the hockey game, and with one of my dudes in tow who loves MN Gopher hockey, we asked that the TV be changed to that. Bethany changed it for us. 508 was of course busy due to the pub crawl, but Bethany didn't blame anyone but herself, and told us she was catching up so to excuse her in the beginning but by the end she'd be back to herself. I respect that honesty. And she was right, she turned it on mid-service and came out like a champ. If I had a Championship belt on me, I left that shit in my other jeans, she would have been wearing it by night's end. The booths are insanely comfortable. I nearly took a nap on Lauren after eating. But, what you get in comfort you give up in closeness to a TV as you're on one side of the place in the booth and the TVs are above the bar, on the other side of the place. So bring your glasses if you want yer ass to be comfy.

I have to partially agree with Keith S on the steak sandwich. Great flavor, great bun, but where's the beef. I had this same sandwich at both the 508 and the Loop bar, and in both places the beef to bun ratio was a little lacking. Don't get me wrong I still really like the sandwich. But for comparison, I've had the Philly at Champs and had to eat 4 forkfuls of meat before I could pick up it up. That's what I'm talking about. The Flavor or the 508 steak sandwich is much better than Champs though. As for the Fries, they rock with a surplus of minced garlic. Great place to watch football. The NFL ticket lets me watch my beloved Bears. The Bloody Mary bar is great as well. Watch out for the house bloody mix though, I added lots of Tabasco not knowing it was already spicy. WOW.

Stopped by 508 on a Saturday night (in town on vacation) and had a mixed experience. This is very much the 20-something hangout. Know that going in to it. Just like other reviewers, it's bachelorette party central and home to "throwback" beats from 2006. Don't want that vibe? Stay upstairs at the bar. Way more chill. Entry was easy as the line hadn't started yet. Looking through reviews I'm a little surprised we weren't "flagged" for not being "dressy" enough, but it was earlier in the night so I think we missed a couple points where others have knocked this place. Food: We sat at the bar and ordered a Chippers dessert (platter of cookies!). The cookies took more than 30 minutes to come out and I felt like a jerk having to ask the bartender where they were. But when they came, they were clearly fresh-baked and delicious. Maybe just a note to the customer that they'll take a little longer because they are actually baking them there. I assumed it would be some homemade (prior-baked) cookies. My bad. The great: our bartender, a guy whose name I never got, made one of the best drinks I've had. And I've had plenty. He was friendly and relaxed and make one hell of a drink. He actually made my night, so thanks for that! All in all, I think it was our bartender who made the experience. I don't believe I'd be giving 4 stars for a club-meets-restaurant packed with obnoxious drunk college kids. Go have a drink. Grab some food if you have time and then bust a move somewhere less "clubby."

The times I have tried the food it was average, perhaps because when i ordered it was around 930pm and the cooks we're ready to end their day? The bartenders don't seem to enjoy taking food orders as well, which is odd coming from the upstairs portion which is primarily the restaurant portion. Downstairs it is very large and very open. But it does fill up quick at night so don't be fooled. The service was always good, the bartenders are polite and don't seem to pick favorites. The negatives, whoever is the House DJ I have given a nickname for...'OCDJ.' He can't seem to figure out what the hell he wants to do half of the time, so instead he will play the first minute of every song and then hit the transition button and move onto the next one, exactly when you are trying to get into the current. Also, since it is a basement bar and it gets very packed. Its hard to ignore the smell that always arises when too many people are dancing in an area with little ventilation.

Cheap drink specials, walking distance from all the U's sports complexes, lots of seating and a kitchen open late mean's this place is the definition of A-OK in my book. A friend had to wait for me after I was covering an event, so she headed here and got to watch some NHL while nursing a few beers. I ordered some nachos and one beer, she had like 4 beers and my bill was bigger than hers (not by much). That's some hella cheap beer. It's exactly what you think it is and it serves you well in that capacity. Mission accomplished.

Wasn't great. Wasn't bad. The place looks great in terms of the decor and the waitress we had was nice but the food isn't anything special sad to say. The wild rice soup was good but the bacon isn't needed just added a weird flavor and it felt kind of greasy. I love Cuban sandwiches so I was pleased to see one. The bread they use leaves the sandwich testing drier than it should. The fries on the other hand are hand cut and tasted pretty good with the garlic herb blend. My husband loves onion rings but the ones there didn't fly with him. He had the buffalo chicken sandwich and was indifferent about it. Again the food isn't bad it's just nothing special and I hate saying that :(

DO NOT COME HERE FOR HAPPY HOUR!So I found out about this place through the happy hour app. I come here and I order my beer and water and say I'm sitting on the patio area. I bring my beer and water outside and I never saw a waiter since. I understand it's a 3pm on Friday but don't have a happy hour if you aren't going to attend to people who show up and spend money. I went back to the bar to order and bring my own beer out again, this time two beers. The inside bar said he would send a waitress out and still no service. Like wtf bruh! Either properly staff your restaurant during the day or change the hours! This is ridiculously infuriating! I was at the restaurant for over 30 mins and the crowd was thin at best!

I've had nothing but good experiences at 508 the few times I've been there. It's perfect for casual drinks downtown during the week. Otherwise I have also been there on a Saturday night, and on Halloween night. They open up the basement On weekend nights and hire a live DJ. Plenty of space for dancing, fun atmosphere, drinks that don't break bank, no cover, and a short line if any. I don't know why I've been going to pour house for so long, waiting in long lines and paying a cover charge. The upstairs is much smaller, they offer booths and high top tables for dining. Good tap beer selection behind a beautiful bar. The atmosphere was rustic yet modern and very inviting. During a weeknight I came in while bar hopping around the city. We decided to stay at 508 after going to one other bar because it was freezing out but more so we were enjoying ourselves so much there. We didn't get to explore the menu outside of the appetizers (appetizers were $3 off during happy hour). We ordered nachos with pulled chicken which were pretty solid. Definitely not the best nachos I've had in my life, but far from the worst. I would love to come back and try some entree's. 508 is quickly becoming one of my favorite bars downtown.

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I don't go here to "party." I have ended up here a few times for a bachelorette party and it's like every other bar/club in downtown Minneapolis on a weekend - a shit show. I'm not judging the 508 based on that. I have been here at least 10 times with my husband and different groups of friends before various sporting events or a show at 1st Avenue. We will always suggest 508 because the food is two steps above the average bar food. We. We usually stop in for drinks and appetizers. I feel like this is the way to go with the 508 - the hummus appetizer is great, as are the flatbreads. The entrees tend to be underwhelming. The tap list is above average for this part of downtown and they have a really good happy hour. 508 will continue to be one of our go-to spots in downtown Minneapolis!

The food is good. The drinks are reasonably priced. There's a large dance floor. This is also apparently the Official Bar of Wisconsin Fans, so that's cool (if you're a Badger fan). I have to preface this review with a little story: in college there was a bar that was your typical last-stop-before-last-call, drunken, sloppy, occasional-stabbings-type bar called Schyde's. Lots of sexual harassment, unwanted grabbing, people passed out, people doing inappropriate things in public restrooms, etc. It has become my consistent standard for whether a bar is terrible or not. (E.g. "At least it's cleaner than Schyde's!" or "It's like Schyde's, but with foam.") So when I hit up the 508 most recently after 11 pm (my first time coming this late at night on a weekend) the first thing I texted my husband was that it was "Schyde's-adjacent." Really disappointing. We had to wait outside in the cold for nearly an hour (with the other members of a small bachelorette party I was attending and at least 50 other people that the bar inexplicably wasn't letting in), watching approximately 500 heartbroken Badger fans--several so drunk that they literally toppled out of the door and fell down into the street--stream out of the bar like it was a clown car (it was the night Wisconsin lost to Kentucky in the Final Four). And once we got in it was deeply disappointing. The service was good, and the drinks were fine, as always--but wow. So packed and sweaty on the dance floor that you couldn't move. So much unwanted grabbing. Had to knee a guy in the groin. A friend had to body check another guy. People (not uniformly young people, either) sloppily making out all over the place. So I guess the moral here is that I'll return during the day, or at least before the late-late-night crowd arrives, but either watching trashed 22-year-olds barf on the stairs while fending off uninvited groping was never fun, or I'm too old for this scene now.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, this place is awesome! Great selection of beers on tap (25ish). They had one of my favorite beers on tap, Bells Hopslam! Definitely come before 6:30pm for happy hour $3 Dom taps, $4 craft taps, and $3 off some great tasting appetizers. I'll be stopping by here again fo sho!

*Review only pertains to the late night dance floor. Pretty solid dj'ing here, but don't expect to do much dancing. The dance floor is densely packed with bodies to the extent that you cannot move your appendages but are forced to stand in place with your arms glued to your sides. And, if you're small, there is a likelihood that you can get swept away by the motion of the masses coming and going and pushing their way through the crowd. The demographics skew young and immature.

The buffalo chicken wontons were delicious!!! Had the Jucy Lucy and it was very good. Girlfriend had the pulled pork and also loved it. The herb fries were a nice change from traditional fries but they could be better. Overall, great experience. Waitress was great and very fast even though it was busy. We came the night Kevin Garnett arrived back with the Timberwolves so the place was packed.
