Mogul's is quite strictly, OK. The food is kind of what you'd expect at a non-Rocky ski resort (think Chili's... pretty meh) The food options are pretty basic - nothing too creative. However, the food is done pretty well. The atmosphere and options, however, are reasonable considering the audience is often families with kids. That being said it's one of the few options at Lutsen, so for what it is - it works.

Surprisingly good pizza. We ordered carry-out after an evening of beers at the lodge. The pizza was loaded with toppings and an impressive red sauce, atop an almost perfect crust. Get the late night carry-out. Good stuff.

The service here is absolutely terrible. We had to go up to the bar to get our own drinks (which I would recommend doing). The one time she came to our table (to bring our food), she asked if I wanted another drink. I was shocked she finally asked, and I instantly said yes. I shouldn't have. I finished my meal and still didn't have a drink. I apologetically went up to her and asked if she could cancel my drink, and she told me to take it to go. I then let her know that I didn't need a drink to go, and she rolled her eyes at me and turned her back. Then she came to the table and dropped the check off. I really wanted dessert and she never even gave me the chance. She stood there waiting for me to get my card out. I apologized that it would take me a while and she just stood there staring at me until I got my card for her. It was rather rude. I was super disappointed with our whopping 2.5 hour dinner. I went up to the manager to let him know a few things I thought could be improved, but also things I really liked, and he dismissed me. I was pretty annoyed after that. We will not be coming back.

Moguls has a great drink and beer menu for those interested in happy hour or celebrating. First our menus were not brought us on introduction. I got the impression that he assumed we just wanted drinks. Secondly we ordered the beef and blue cheese flatbread. appearance wise it was cut and displayed like a odd quesadilla. But to our surprise the instead of sauce underneath the deliciousness of blue cheese and beef was a bed of caramelized onions that were overpowered with rosemary. Yuck! The last thing is the waiter refilled my fiancés diet coke with regular coke . And then then there was a fly that appeared to enjoy our odd quesadilla. Save your time and money and head to papa Charlie's.

I just had a couple beers here and didn't try the food. Just don't want you to waste your time reading a review that is useless to you. I dropped in on Moguls around 4pm (mid-week) after a day of skiing; a girl who works in the area said it was a good place to go for a beer apres-ski. She was right. I may have been one of the few tourists who were there. It was primarily lifties and other local tourist industry workers. That being said, they made me feel pretty welcome and I didn't feel out of place. Their signature bloody mary was bloody fantastic and worth the money. It's like ordering a cocktail that comes with a salad and a kabob of beef. It was a big drink too -- well worth the money. In addition, their microbrew selection was good and the service pleasant and helpful. If you're in the area I would recommend it but there's no need to make a special trip. Likely the best bar in the area.

Ate here while staying at the resort next door. As several of the other reviews say, don't come if you're in a hurry at dinner - took awhile to get our drink orders and place our dinner order, although the soup and entrees came out fairly quickly. The food is worth it if you have the time. The wild game meatloaf was very tasty and the cream gravy was a nice touch. I tried some of the ribs as well and they were fall-off-the-bone tender and delicious. The clam chowder was unusual (shaved carrots?) but good. And my bloody Mary was an appetizer in and of itself, with excellent elk meatballs and smoked gouda on a skewer. I would definitely go back if I am in the area.

We came here to celebrate the closing of our annual family gathering. The meal was a big gift from my parents to the rest of the group, and something that had been planned far in advance. The service and attitude of the bartender here was terrible. We'd made a reservation for 18 adults and 4 children weeks in advance. When we arrived we were informed that there was no accessible entrance for a member of our group who doesn't easily use stairs, nor was there any alternative entrance. Next we were told that there was only room for 18, not 22. The children were forgotten. Not a problem but when we said we needed 22, the bartender said no, it's only 18. No care, compassion, or offer to make it right. Just snarky attitude. To her credit, the manager on duty tried to do everything she could to make it right but the shockingly poor attitude of the bartender had already tipped the scales. We left and ate in the dining room at Lutsen Resort where they took in our huge group at the last minute, gave us great service with a smile, and racked up a big bill which we happily paid to Lutsen instead of Moguls. I suggest that the management here train their staff in customer service and creative solutions.

Went here after visiting Temperance falls for a late lunch. We were a half hour away from Grand Marais and deciding between eating here and the Crooked Spoon Cafe, but we would have had to wait for the restaurant to re-open at 4:30 pm so we ate at Moguls. Honestly, only eat here if you really have to and are in Lutsen, otherwise, go to Grand Marais. The food is overpriced and standard fare. It's not that bad, but the service is slow, the restaurant is kind of dirty, and it's pretty empty. If the prices were 75% of what they were, it would have been a better experience. I'd suggest going to Dairy Queen in Grand Marais. You'll get the same food for a quarter of the price. We ordered a rib-eye romaine salad wrap and the appetizer plate. Wrap was pretty good (it was hot) and the appetizer plate had good walleye cakes and loaded potatoes. The sauce with the loaded potatoes was delicious. Ask for that sauce instead of the ranch if you get a wrap or salad.

Small place, friendly "grandma" bartender & must get Lake Effect drink - yum! Low on atmosphere though.

Burger could have been great if it weren't over cooked and both it & the fries were hot. Service was also not very hot. Saved $$ on the tip!

My husband and I recently ate at Moguls as we were staying at the Caribou Highlands Lodge. We waited over 40 minutes for our food and watched people who has been seated after us get served before us. When our food finally arrived my order was incorrect, I had received tator tots instead of french fries. Our waitress corrected the problem, but the fries I received were extremely overcooked, cold and soggy. It made me wish I had stayed with the tots I received by mistake! The bacon on my Bacon Cheeseburger was completely under cooked, I had to take it off my burger. Both of our burgers were pretty underwhelming and seemed as though they may have been sitting out for a while. To top it off, my husband felt ill for the next few hours after finishing his meal. Can't say I recommend!

Moguls promised "every day" dining. The billboards started at least ten miles away from Caribou Highlands, Moguls' home base. On arriving, though, we discovered that "every day" actually means Wednesday through Saturday. Even at the peak of the summer season, they don't get enough business to open on Sunday through Tuesday. So, Wednesday we tried to go for lunch. We were further surprised to learn that the lunch menu consists entirely of pizza. There are no other options. Bailed out to go eat at much better spots in Grand Marais. We did eventually try the pizza on a later evening. It was the worst pizza I've eaten. The crust was clearly frozen, the toppings invisible, and the cheese tasted like government surplus. To top it off, the crust was underdone. I don't know what the service is like inside... We have been so unsuccessful at dining there that we have given up. The lackluster pizza certainly won't convince us to schedule our activities around their opening hours.

If you are planning to eat here over your stay at Lutsen, spend the extra money on a room with a kitchen because the food and service are so bad you wish you would have. Waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order and then 30 minutes for food and another 20 minutes for our check. There were 5 groups of people in the restaurant with three wait staff. There was no excuse for the poor service we received. We also missed our 11 am checkout time because of the service. Overpriced and terrible. Choose somewhere else to dine.

Had trouble finding the place -terrible signage. Their menu was completely different than what was posted online. They would only give one menu per table stating that they had no more... but the restaurant was half empty and we saw no others with menus. With an over priced, limited option menu that we had trouble even looking at (as there was only one for multiple people) we left and went down the road to Charlies... which had plenty of menus.

I don't eat here often but did spend NYE consuming their buffet. It was under 40 dollars a person (not including drinks) and seemed like it was going to be full of semi interesting food (for a girl that now lives on the north shore...for a city person this was all pretty normal food). They had some oyster bloody mary shooters that were pretty yummy. They also had a crostini with mozzarella cheese and toppings that was pretty good. I have to say despite loving high quality food I am also a big fan of buffets (love being to get more of what is good and not eating what doesn't appeal-but with lots of choices). This satisfied that part of me though it was more of a middle of the road experience than not. Also had a pretty nifty ice bar out back. Seemed to be full of men taking off their shirts to pose for pictures after being dared by friends.

This place was awesome. Unique food and very tasty! One dish (we had the Cajun chicken mushroom penne) was plenty to split between the two of us and the complimentary bread was delicious. Impressive beer and wine list and nice ambience. I plan to come back in the winter to do some snowboarding here and will definitely stop back in.

Like a cute five year old trying to be cool like grandpa... its cute but the classy timing and experience just isnt there. And so we came to Moguls at the encouragement of our hotel staff around 7. Apparently asking for a booth was synonymous to poor service. We didnt mind being in the corner next to the kitchen run (I expressly requested a booth,) but you'd think they'd refill your water glass as it was so obviously empty and we were passed on the regular by servers. Our waiter was personable, but not attentive in the slightest. The food. Here's where I want to say it got better. Unfortunately not. We started with the appetizer sampler. The potato canoes were meh- the only saving grace its large chunks of real bacon. The walleye cake? Lacking any flavor or the delicious flakiness a walleye cake should offer. Then it was smothered in tartar- too much sauce does NOT improve product. The "bruschetta" was sacrilege. It's the beginning of October- tomatoes should never be that mealy or that light pink this early. A tiny amount of mozz and lack of seasoning. Blegh. An unfortunate insult to a dish that should be bright and cheery and flavorful. My husband ordered the chicken ceasar. He said it was alright. Of course, then he followed with "Its pretty difficult to screw up a ceaser." He also had the soup that came with my meal- their soup options were steak chili and tomato beef something. He went for the tomato beef. You wouldn't believe what it tasted like. Chili. Should have cued me then. I ordered the 10 oz prime rib with a side of the skewered "rosemary" shrimp. The quotations are necessary as there was no rosemary to speak of. Nor was it truly "grilled." When shrimp are grilled it brings out the sweet and fresh which should epitomize a good shrimp. What I SHOULDNT taste is an overcooked shrimpy flavored excuse for a shrimp that was obviously frozen for a long long time first. The prime rib was a damn fine piece of meat. And I don't say that easily. A little rarer then medium rare but better for all that. The au jus- meh. The mixed vegetables fresh but (and I cant believe Im saying this, but) under (?) steamed. The smashed taters with cheddar and bacon? Awesome. The necessary horseradish sauce that makes a good prime rib pop? Boring. No sharp horseradish oomph that partners the meat and au jus on a swash-buckling culinary foray in your mouth. Would I eat here again? Maybe. For a burger.

We skied in for lunch off of Moose Access run at Lutsen. For a comparable price at one of the ski chalets, you get much higher quality food, table service as opposed to a lunch tray, and avoid the chaos of poaching a table in the dining room. Best wine selection we've seen on the north shore.

They recently redid this restaurant at Caribou Highlands where they used to have a fantastic Walleye fillet. Many of the restaurants in the area are overpriced, not so good quality. The server was not so good. I ordered the $11 dinner Prime Rib Sandwich which appeared to be shaved from the prime rib served a couple of days ago a bit overcooked and on the dry side but, good bread and great when dipped into the Au Jus, served on a baguette. It was just fine, I ordered the fruit as a side, it was under ripened not an impressive selection, should have gone with the fry's maybe? Two of the four people did not get the sides that they requested, two other ordered prime rib medium rare and it was way overcooked. The Prime Rib runs on the little pricey side. I have tried places at the bottom of the hill and the top of the hill and they are not much better, overpriced, under quality, going to give the place at the top of the hill another chance next time. If you hit this place (because not a huge selection if your staying at the resort), I would stick with the cheaper easier items that people can't mess up and that way you won't be wasting money. I am not going to say avoid it because if your staying at the resort it's one of the most accessible places around unless your up for a road trip. When I added the business it changed the city to cook which is cook county, this is actually at Caribou Highlands resort at Lutsen, at the resort in the mountains.

This was my first visit to the renovated restaurant space at Caribou Highlands and I was a bit disappointed by the menu. The space was lovely, and I think it is a more hip and modern look than what I remember the former restaurant being, so thumbs up for decor. I also like the ski in/ski out option at lunch time. The menu however, which let's remember is what were here for, was very meat heavy and really spendy. We had the crab cakes and the nachos, both of which were appetizers. The crab cakes were pretty good, but super small for $10. The aioli was done well and the bed of greens was drizzled with a light balsamic, very pleasant. The kitchen substituted black beans for chicken on the nachos, and there was a good deal of food on the plate, but the flavor wasn't anything special. Pretty standard sports bar nachos. Our bill came to around $25 with tax and tip, way too much for what we got. I'd have given Moguls 4 stars if the bill had been around $15, in the end I felt like I was eating overpriced bar food. I'm certainly glad we didn't opt for the $18 veggie pasta. It seems that at lunch you can get pizzas and some other options, but the dinner menu is really limited, especially if you aren't a carnivore. I understand that Caribou Highlands has a captive group of people who ski and stay at CH or at Eagle Ridge, but that's no reason to not give more options or to charge such high prices for what was average food.

They've updated the space and menu and it was a nice surprise. Had a tasty chicken caesar one night. Another had beef & blue on flat bread as appetizer. I enjoy micro brews and Moguls has interesting collection. My favorite was the Hammer IPA. Perfect for sitting and sipping. Did the breakfast buffet one morning and thought there were plenty of fine choices. They even a guy making eggs to order if you so desire. I always thought the old restaurant at Caribou was fine, but this is the kind of place that offers a wider range of options for every palate.

We have eaten at Moguls dozens times over the last couple of years. Consistently good. Check out the nightly specials as they often are unique and surprising. Burgers are very good. Thursday and Friday are all you can eat ribs. Ribs are very good and cooked perfect with an excellent sauce. The ribs really do not need the sauce. The Shore Lunch Benedict is by far the best breakfast item. Two poached eggs on sear walleye cakes with hollandaise. The Jumbo Cinnamon Roll is almost too beautiful to eat. If you have kids, order the roll of the kids menu, it is the same. They always have a daily creative omelet and waffle specials. I had the sausage gravy omelet, basically a sausage and cheese omelet stuffed and topped with sausage gravy. My spouse had the three meat breakfast waffle. Both sound strange, both were great. They have a daily beer special called the "Strange Brew". Get it. It is usually a unique seasonal beer that they change often. There is a nice room off the bar that will accommodate groups of 15 -20. Very nice if you want semi-private dining with a larger group, should call to reserve. The dinner menu is consistent. For the most part, however, we generally order their dinner specials. One highlight on the dinner menu is the Bourbon Planked Sockeye Salmon. Cooked perfectly, with sweet glaze--yummy. Good prime rib, they cut most of the fat off for you so there is very little waste. If you feel up to it, order the Avalanche Challenge 48 ounces of Prime Rib that needs to be finished in 30 minutes. My 110 pound daughter attempted this feat, but failed. She said if she had an hour she could have done it. She will try it again I am sure. Service is always fantastic. They seem to always remember us, yikes. It is that good.

Cozy feel and great food!! Went here three times during a recent trip to Lutsen. Highly recommend and although it seems formal it's very relaxed and prices are great for what you get. Beef and blue pizza is my favorite.

Very cozy ski lodge atmosphere. Service and the food were both good. Prices were a little higher than I would have anticipated. Menu was short and to the point. Nothing in particular stood out, except the bill at the end. Strangely the heat was on full blast inside of the restaurant even though it was 65 degrees outside. Also noticed that the interior was very dirty which was strange because my girlfriend and I were the only people in there. Options are very limited in the area for eating. Recommended for naturally cold people, and those in Lutsen looking for something a little more formal.
