I don't understand how you can own a restaurant/bar in a tourist town and not figure out when tourist season is in full swing - this place is CONSISTANTLY understaffed year after year. The food is average at best. Restaurant is always a mess. Waiters are hurried, haggard, and stretched beyond their capacity. One waiter was actually dripping in sweat - I thought he might pass out, poor man. Fall colors at peak equals tourists so STAFF for it!!! It's unfortunate because if you're enjoying activites on Lutsen Mountain, there really aren't many other alternatives without getting in the car and going a considerable distance. There is one exception: the small pub in the Caribou Highlands Resort which is within walking distance. We will definitely give that a shot next time, because after years of this we've finally learned our lesson here. Live music and club scene at night, but we've only visited during the day and it certainly wasn't worth it. We won't be back. and P.S. I know we've got this whole "north woods" themed thing going on, but honestly, who puts wild rice on nachos? blech.
Went for lunch @ 12:30 on a Thursday. Service was terrible and the place wasn't crowded in the least. The food was good, but not good enough to excuse the poor service or the higher prices. Probably won't be back.
We stopped in for a beer after a day of skiing. I love the vibe of the place, lots of good energy and a great band playing! We sat at the bar upstairs, and I was disappointed by the service. After waiting for 15 minutes to get our tab from when we first requested it, I asked the bartender again nicely if we could have our tab. She rudely asked for the last name on the tab, and then I kindly reminded her we had asked for the tab 15+ minutes before. She then admitted to feeling a little out of it after doing a group shot behind the bar. I'm all for fun on the job but not if it interferes with your ability to do your job. Wow! If you're expecting good service go elsewhere.

We went up to Lutsen a few weeks ago and stopped at the Cascade Restaurant on our drive to Grand Marais. It was the worst place I have ever stepped foot in! We walked in and I could smell a strange stench. I asked my husband if he could smell too, but he couldn't . I fluffed it off as I am pregnant and thought I was having pregnant nose. Once we were seated I could smell the dirty water on the table. (My husband could smell this) I had to use a baby wipe to clean the table before we sat down. At this point we should have left, but we didn't! I asked for a children's menu... I never got it. I went to the hostess desk and grabbed my own and tried to grab some crayons. The crayons were so slimy one stuck to my finger!!! Needless to say we didn't let our son color. We ordered the "special" tomato basil soup and BLTs. After 30 minutes and an unruly toddler we were served our soup. (not sure why it took so long for the soup. Isn't already made?) The soup was the worst thing I have ever eaten. It was literally Cambell's tomato soup mixed with a can of diced tomatoes, and curdled cream. I couldn't eat it! We decided promptly that we didn't want the sandwiches that hadn't been served to us yet. My husband went up to the hostess who defended the food and didn't apologize or anything. He was told, many people love the soup and the reason for the LONG wait was that they were short staffed. SERIOUSLY!! They charged us for our sodas and the soup that was still sitting on the table. After our unpleasant experience at Cascade we ended up grabbing lunch at Moguls in Caribou Lodge!
We stopped here for dinner, and the menu prices were higher than those found on their website. The lettuce in the salad bar was turning brown, and they had limited items from which to choose. I had a sirloin steak that lacked seasoning. The side of broccoli was fresh and well cooked. Sandwiches and burgers appeared to be about average in price, but the dinner entrees are not worth what you pay for. I would not eat here again.
Stayed here in November 2011. Dirty, musty smelling and outdated-hasn't been updated since early 70's and no maintenance since. Bathroom tub clogged badly, caulk was gross/moldy/deteriorated, lighting was very bad, room was cramped and bed was lumpy, uneven and OLD. Very disappointing since this was a birthday gift. Staff is very nice though. Restaurant staff was very good as well. I would not recommend this at all.

Mogul's is quite strictly, OK. The food is kind of what you'd expect at a non-Rocky ski resort (think Chili's... pretty meh) The food options are pretty basic - nothing too creative. However, the food is done pretty well. The atmosphere and options, however, are reasonable considering the audience is often families with kids. That being said it's one of the few options at Lutsen, so for what it is - it works.
Surprisingly good pizza. We ordered carry-out after an evening of beers at the lodge. The pizza was loaded with toppings and an impressive red sauce, atop an almost perfect crust. Get the late night carry-out. Good stuff.
The service here is absolutely terrible. We had to go up to the bar to get our own drinks (which I would recommend doing). The one time she came to our table (to bring our food), she asked if I wanted another drink. I was shocked she finally asked, and I instantly said yes. I shouldn't have. I finished my meal and still didn't have a drink. I apologetically went up to her and asked if she could cancel my drink, and she told me to take it to go. I then let her know that I didn't need a drink to go, and she rolled her eyes at me and turned her back. Then she came to the table and dropped the check off. I really wanted dessert and she never even gave me the chance. She stood there waiting for me to get my card out. I apologized that it would take me a while and she just stood there staring at me until I got my card for her. It was rather rude. I was super disappointed with our whopping 2.5 hour dinner. I went up to the manager to let him know a few things I thought could be improved, but also things I really liked, and he dismissed me. I was pretty annoyed after that. We will not be coming back.
