I don't understand how you can own a restaurant/bar in a tourist town and not figure out when tourist season is in full swing - this place is CONSISTANTLY understaffed year after year. The food is average at best. Restaurant is always a mess. Waiters are hurried, haggard, and stretched beyond their capacity. One waiter was actually dripping in sweat - I thought he might pass out, poor man. Fall colors at peak equals tourists so STAFF for it!!! It's unfortunate because if you're enjoying activites on Lutsen Mountain, there really aren't many other alternatives without getting in the car and going a considerable distance. There is one exception: the small pub in the Caribou Highlands Resort which is within walking distance. We will definitely give that a shot next time, because after years of this we've finally learned our lesson here. Live music and club scene at night, but we've only visited during the day and it certainly wasn't worth it. We won't be back. and P.S. I know we've got this whole "north woods" themed thing going on, but honestly, who puts wild rice on nachos? blech.

Went for lunch @ 12:30 on a Thursday. Service was terrible and the place wasn't crowded in the least. The food was good, but not good enough to excuse the poor service or the higher prices. Probably won't be back.

We stopped in for a beer after a day of skiing. I love the vibe of the place, lots of good energy and a great band playing! We sat at the bar upstairs, and I was disappointed by the service. After waiting for 15 minutes to get our tab from when we first requested it, I asked the bartender again nicely if we could have our tab. She rudely asked for the last name on the tab, and then I kindly reminded her we had asked for the tab 15+ minutes before. She then admitted to feeling a little out of it after doing a group shot behind the bar. I'm all for fun on the job but not if it interferes with your ability to do your job. Wow! If you're expecting good service go elsewhere.

Understaffed and terrible business plan. You can't order food in the bar after 7:30pm and yet I've ordered $80 worth of beers. Figure out better service and how to serve your customers better and you would be able to make more money.

Stopped serving food in the bar at 7:30 (or earlier?) and wouldn't let us order food from the restaurant and bring it to the bar. Poor business plan. If there were more options and the New Standards didn't play here annually, I'd never come back. The second floor layout is also not well organized. Extremely disappointed. And hungry.

Overall fun bar with good music. Just really disappointed they stop serving bar food at 7:30 and don't let you do take out from their main restaurant. Seems a little silly that I have to go sit in the restaurant just to eat a plate of fries.

Okay first time here ordered those Moose wings. Holy cow are they expensive $10 for 3 wings! The server had an attitude bc we said they where expensive (did his mommy make those?) we also ordered the walleye fingers and they tasted good but he forgot them. When we reminded him he was all like "no you didn't " lol. What horrible service. Food is mediocre prices are extravagant. Lucky they are here up north at Lutsen or no one would deal with bs. We had four children with us and by the end of our meal we wanted water but bc of how cold he was towards us over the wings we were too afraid. Beware

Poor service, waitress could have cared less she had customers...Food was good but due to the waitresses lack of customer service, probably going somewhere else tomorrow night! It's too bad she was so terrible...she got scolded by one other customer and I couldn't blame them one bit.

The beer was flowing nicely. I really wanted to stay to see the band. But due to the fact that we had 2 teens in our group, we couldn't. Fortunately, there was a nice acoustic solo guy playing. As far food, it was your typical bar fare. I had the walleye sandwich. I liked it a lot...perfect crispiness and not overly breaded. I'd suggest eating in the bar area. There was no wait and the service was just as good (menu was the same too). We also were seated by the pool tables which provided some extra fun.

High prices. But it's Lutsen, so we expected that. We were the only people there at 4:45pm. The waitress was very attentive but the manager (?) was rude and condescending towards her. We could hear the conversation through a partition behind our booth. The walleye fingers were AMAZING. Literally amazing. You get about a dozen good sized pieces. The fish tacos aren't worth it. You get three walleye fingers, iceberg shredded lettuce and small flour tortillas for a dollar more than a dozen walleye fingers. The burgers are good, the sauce on the Chubby tasted like ketchup, ranch and too much liquid smoke. Kids menu is nicely priced for the food they get. Fries are "Fast Food" fries, but they're okay.

What a wonderful wild rice burger! Unique and very tasty. Had it with the lemon slaw. Light and tasty side. Husband had the walleye sandwich. Good and generous portion. Fine service. Did not eat outside but the outdoor dining option and scenery were top notch. We played ping pong after our meal. You can't do that everyday!!

Good local beer and a decent venue. I wouldn't say the service was great, but it wasn't by any means bad. I was in the area for a wedding and stopped in once for a beer (Third St 3 Way). I went again for the after party after the wedding. Sadly, the kitchen had closed already (a bummer), but I did get to have more of the local drinks and was able to watch the bride and her family have an ultimate game of foosball in the upstairs area. The setup isn't too modern, but it's what you'd expect considering the area. If you're in Lutsen (especially if you're staying at the ski resort), stop in for a beer or a bite to eat.

I had a pretty good timing hanging out at Papa Charlies for an evening. It's really more bar than music venue but does a good job of doubling as a concert hall. The stage is small but big enough. The acoustics fill the place up and are fairly true to sound. The bar is kind of triangle shaped and is smack in the center of the floor. It's pretty cool to have that much real estate, and even with three bar tenders working their butts off, it still took a little time to get served sometimes. Then again, the place was packed. We were there for a show, so only really can comment on the atmosphere during a packed-house music type event. The place has the main floor, which is dominated by the bar and then an upstairs area that rings the entire space. This could be a great place to stake a claim and watch the action down below. There's also a bar and bathroom upstairs, which is great if you choose to chill up there for the night. There's a tiny main floor/dance floor in front of the stage for those who are a little more bold. Or you could just hang back by the bar or upstairs. We were impressed with the beer selection, which included lots of our local favorites from local breweries including Castle Danger and Bent Paddle. There were also some other good craft options from places a little farther away. Mixed drinks appeared to be poured generously from what I saw, though I stuck with beer. Prices were reasonable and very much un-resorty. Staff was friendly and not overbearing. They were pretty strict about the no reentry thing, though, just fwiw. Guess that's about it. We had a fabulous time and would definitely come back for another show or just to grab a few if we're ever on the slopes.

Delicious food and friendly service. I preferred Papa Charlie's for a early dinner over Moguls Grille by far. The veggie burger was incredible!

Up north fare and big city prices. Firstly, we were told there would be a 15 minute wait for a table outside, and were given a beeper. When I saw 3 open tables outside, the host said those may be for the bar and not the restaurant. Well, after 15 minutes, the beeper went off and we were shown to one of the originally available tables. It was a nice night, and the view from the deck was worthwhile. Food was ok. My wife had the fish & chips for $12.50. Two small pieces of fish with a ton of fries and coleslaw. Fries and fish were very greasy and overcooked. Son had the child chicken strips for $6. Again. Two small, mostly breaded pieces of chicken. A glass of milk was an additional $2.50. I had a $12.50 mushroom burger that was pretty good. Not worth the $, but since we were staying on Lutsen property, it was convenient.

During our trip to Lutsen, we ran out of time to actually eat here. However, we did stop in for drinks a couple of times. The bar is very clubby. It looks modern and has a huge screen on the stage surrounded by enough speakers to fill a stadium. Below the stage is a dance floor, occupied by a ping pong table during the day. Plenty of seating on two levels. The upper level has common bar games including Big Buck Hunter, Darts, Pool, etc. The bar seats people 360 degrees. The patio has a great view of the ski hills and gondola. They have a decent tap selection. Small, but not all cheap domestic stuff. They also have a great happy hour with discounted food and $3 taps from 3-6. The staff was very friendly and efficient. However, there were only ever a few more people in the bar. It was not that busy, seeing as it was the end of the ski season. All in all, a good place to take a break from skiing and have a drink. Next time, I will try the food.

Great meal from the "new-to-me" menu at Papa Charlie's last night. I had fish tacos and split the romaine salad. I hadn't read the description of the salad so I was surprised to see the romain had been roasted? The result was fabulous, can't wait to tell other locals about the great changes happening up the hill at Papa's.

Nice place to grab lunch or dinner and watch a game. They have a 100 foot tv at on side of the bar. They have live bands all through the ski season. Fun place to hang out with friends.
