Best pho in the Twin Cities. Homemade, fresh, everything you'd expect. Here's where it gets really good. You can taste every layer of flavor... cinnamon, star of anise...

Usually a fan of Vietnamese food and restaurants. This place was ehhhh. Service was horrid and the food was below average to average.

I was having a major Banh Mi craving and decided to check this place out. It was a bit pricey but from the limited selections of Vietnamese restaurants around the area I could see why. Service was good, the lady was really friendly. I ordered the grilled pork sandwich. When it came out what I saw was a sandwich tinier than your average banh mi size. I opened it up and looked inside, the pork looked really nice and juicy but there was literally only 2 pieces inside. The bread was probably the best thing about the sandwich...and usually the bread is make or break for banh mi's. Fortunately the bread was nice, warm, and toasted with a good crispy texture. Most times you could get away with a decent bahn mi if only the bread is good but they were too greedy with the ingredients and I felt that the sandwich itself lacked flavor. For an appetizer I had the shrimp eggroll, though it was expensive and honestly quite a simple dish, was really quite tasty. It reminded me of shrimp ball dim sum you can get in restaurants you'd find in a Chinatown. I'm giving this place a generous 3 out of 5 stars for now because I believe I might find something else that is good here. Maybe the pho is good but that will need to be another meal.

Having a pho craving is a serious issue and making sure you satisfy the craving is important. I live very close by and have been driving past Saigon Palace everyday finally decided to stop in for dinner on a weekday with my boyfriend. Walking in I would have to agree with Karl W. the place is filled in every corner with fish tanks Literally EVERYWHERE its pretty but....kinda odd theme. Also the decor reminds me of back to the 90's with the wallpaper. Everything just looked a bit cluttered. We got quick service through there was only one other person in the actual restaurant while we were there. We both got pho for our main dishes which comes in two sizes we choose the regular. Also ordered some fried chicken wings for apps. Everything came out very quick. Problem with that though while biting into one of my wings I noticed the middle was still cold meaning they didn't fry them long enough plus there wasn't much flavor. The pho was also bland, the broth was not up to par with what I am used to. The bright side is the portions are big but the price tag that comes with the food was not worth the visit and I would recommend going to check other options for pho if you are willing to make the drive st.paul and mpls both have tons of options for $2less for each dish too.

Best wings and curry fried rice ... Apparently the best Pho in town ... If you are here say hi to Tony and ask for the special wings

OK...has anyone on here been to a good Pho restaurant? Because this place is not a place to go for Pho or much else. Went on a Fri night...we were the only customers in the place. Had Pho, spring roll, fried egg roll and shrimp fried rice. Pho...no good. Spring roll...ok Fried egg roll...no good. Shrimp Fried rice...ok Thumbs down.

Fair prices, AWESOME PHO! My gf and I are there so much the wait staff is starting to remember what we order. :) It's a nice cozy mom n pop place, always clean tables and seating. The service is great, I get my water refilled sometimes 4 times a meal. The pork spring rolls are very good, as well as the cream cheese wontons. This place is just as good or better than lots of the asian restaurants I've been to, and it's within 5 minutes of my home. So this place is by far my overall favorite. saigonpalacemn . com

Note this: As of 1-1-09, Saigon Palace is closed on Tuesdays and there are no more lunch specials, just (apparently) the regular reasonable priced menu. (I just learned this yesterday and haven't personally checked it out.) We've frequented Saigon Palace since the day they opened. The banh mi are excellent and make for a very inexpensive lunch if that's your need. Both the grilled pork and the grilled chicken are wonderful; the baguette is lightly grilled and perfect for the sandwich - a lightly crisp outer crust. At our request, Tony added Hot & Spicy Chicken to his menu but it's not on the 'regular' menu; it wound up on the back side of the lunch menu (See added note above) though it is available any time. He makes it with white meat, rather than dark. It's tasty but could maybe use more sauce. Tony's a charming chap who will do everything in his power to assure you of a good meal. A year ago, I approached him about a special meal for a group of about 8. We wanted to keep the cost around $15 per person and he prepared a number of wonderful dishes for us -- try the boneless stuffed chicken wings on the appetizer menu. It was a great evening! The pho is excellent; I'm partial to the one with the oxtails in it. (And if you don't like cilantro, he's happy to leave it out. :-) You should go!

Banh Mi Chicken- Thigh meat. *Whole* thai green chile inside. I wasn't a fan. The whole thai chile was a bit ridiculous, my head sweats just thinking about it. Not a fan of dark meat chicken either. Maybe I'll try the traditional headcheese banh mi next time.

Very friendly staff. The owner knows many of his customers by name. Love the pho, and really love the grilled pork platter. The combination of the pork, eggs, rice, and vegetables (that come with the platter) dipped into the fish sauce is awesome. Would definitely recommend if you like Vietnamese food.

I decided upon this place due to location and the Vietnamese. The Thai-style chicken fried rice was super tasty and I LOVED the shredded chicken rice-noodle soup. Great flavor, well cooked, great service, very good price (the best part!). I definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting Vietnamese food!

I have never tried Vietnamese food in my life. I wasn't sure what to expect. The server was very helpful, and answered our questions in a friendly manner. The restaurant didn't have a lot of patrons, but it was nice and quiet. We brought 2 three year olds to eat with us and they had high chairs for them to sit in, the kids were occupied with the fish tanks and the TV near our table. The food was fresh and delicious. I tried the vermicelli rice noodles with beef and wife tried the same with pork. The fried potstickers were great and the egg rolls were a hit with the kids. The best part about eating here is that you don't feel like crap when you're done eating. Even though we ordered a few fried items, we ate what I would call a balanced meal.

The food is okay, but the menu feels like a sad attempt to make the extra bucks. Comparatively overpriced for below-average quality. Cam Ranh Bay is a much better option if you're craving vietnamese food. Plus the service was horrible, and rude.

Saigon Palace is a real life insaniquarium. As soon as you walk through the door it feels like a pet shop with fresh and salt water tanks at every corner and wall. There is literally 13 fish tanks in a 2000 sf area and twice as many fish as chairs. The fish is cool but a bit overwhelming. We came in on Saturday night and never saw anyone else come or go so we had speedy service. We ordered the shredded pork spring rolls as the rolls were recommended on Yelp. However when they arrived they were the pork and shrimp, the shrimps were huge, visible from the translucent wrapping and I don't personally eat seafood. My girlfriend was ok with keeping them and they brought me a replacement without shrimpies but the pork wasn't shredded but the same as the original (minus the shrimp). Everyone raves about the Pho so we ordered the #1 special and the rice with chicken to split. The Pho was good although there is better in Burnsville, the portion was huge and had to take half home. They have an extra large bowl, but the large is around 2 liters by itself, which should satisfy most. The rice with chicken was bland but not bad in anyway. Overall SP is loaded with fish and shrimp options (should have taken a hint by all the aquariums) and both my pork spring rolls and rice with chicken regularly come with fish sauce, which I found odd for pork spring rolls. I accidentally tried some fish sauce that comes standard on the table and it smelled and tasted like urine. Really not the place for me and honestly there is a ton of good Asian options in this area.

Atmosphere: Felt like a fast food joint... surrounded by a bunch of fish tanks, there's a tv to watch, tables and chairs are a bit outdated but there are booths. M/F restroom in the back. Service: hostess/waitress very friendly and took our order promptly. Food came our fast. Waitress didn't really check up on us throughout the meal, so no refill on waters, even though there was only one other table occupied. Check came out as soon as we finished, and the waitress packed our leftovers in a container for us :) Food: We came here after a day of snowboarding so was looking for some warm soup to end the day. Started off with appetizers, egg rolls. Not bad. Ate it all up. We were disappointed in the pho. We ordered the beef and the broth had a weird flavor and somewhat salty. The noodles and other ingredients were ok. We also ordered the bun vermicelli salad with beef. We were satisfied with this, except sad that they didn't give us a lot of protein/beef compared to other restaurants. Lastly we also wanted the banh mi sandwich, but they were all sold out at 6pm on a Saturday :( The prices were as expected at less than $10 a meal and the location was convenient.

Cigarette ashes in my spring rolls. Hands down the worst place I've eaten in MN. Waitress was very unpleasant. First of all the place was empty, except for one couple. The waitress didn't like the fact we preferred to seat somewhere besides the table (next to the couple) which she wanted us to seat at. Nothing against the couple but, with the whole place empty we preferred to be away from the cleaning rags she left around. The waitress had an attitude about that. But hey, we gave it a chance anyways. Vacuum cleaner in the middle of the place. Many rags around. Is good to clean... But to have dirty rags on tables and vacuums around is pretty ghetto. Tacky decor. Is like they wanted a fish pet shop instead of a restaurant. It smelled like a pet shop too. Kind of like ferrets. I have no idea why. I wanted a vegetarian dish. Their menu is very confusing. The title of the dishes state that all dishes underneath came with certain things, yet they included appetizers in the same list which didn't include the things "all dishes do," and she treated me like a moron for asking. Like it was obvious. When I asked for vegetarian fried rice without eggs she said they don't clean the pans all day so they won't scrape the eggs for one dish. WHAT? I was going to leave but we were really hungry and I figured, I couldn't go wrong with vegetarian spring rolls. Well. You can. They had cigarette ashes in them. I asked her if the cook was smoking in the back. Of course she said no, and that the tofu was deep fried and that's why it tastes like that. I'm sorry. I've cooked tofu myself. Nothing deep fried tastes like cigarette ashes. And the other spring roll didn't have that disgusting taste, besides I saw the ashes. That was f'n gross. And they still charged us for that crap. With an attitude. For shame.
