Vegetarians sometimes have a rough go of finding a meal at a Mexican place other than cheese, cheese, cheese. El Loro has some great options for veggies! I go with the veggie fajitas and they're always stellar! And they have vegetarian refried beans!!! The servers are also always very attentive. I love El Loro!

Good food and not too expensive. Fajitas are really good and the queso is great. Service is slower but they do well.

Great place, been there several time when visiting for work. I actually drive down from Bloomington it's so good - much better than the Mall of America local fare. They have a couple great dishes with tons of chorizo sausage, including nachos and a cheese dip - love that. While the salsa you get with chips when seated isn't spicy, they have two bottles of my fav habanero sauces - red and green - on the table, which are plenty hot (use with caution) which I use to spice up the salsa and other dishes. Generous portions of very good food on hot plates, free ice tea refills (not on all drinks) and very good service make this one of my favs in the area. A couple times it was slow to get my check and pay it, but otherwise service is great. You can't go wrong at this El Loro.

After a long day of shopping, all that my family and I wanted to do was have a nice meal and then head home. As we pondered where to go we did not consider the date at all. Keep this in mid and the type of restaurant that this is when I tell you we went on May 5th! Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! As soon as we walked in the door we could tell that it was Cinco de Mayo. Despite this the wait for a table was not awful at all. The hostess was very kind and kept on top of open table and as soon as they were cleared the next party was seated. The area that they have for you to wait is very small and filled quickly. This caused an inconvenience for both the staff and the customers. In the meantime though it made for great people watching while we waited. Once seated the normality of a very busy restaurant hit. Our server was obviously very busy as it took her awhile to come and take our beverage order. By the time she got there we put in both our beverage and our food order. We were served our chips and salsa that all tables are served at the same time that we got our beverages. Our food came quickly after that but as soon as we got it our server left and we had no silverware. We ended up having to flag down another server to get us some. They were very kind about it and apologized profusely. I did not find that to be such a big issue. They had extra staff constantly circling the restaurant that would refill your beverage and see how your food was. The food was awesome. Having lived in Florida now for several years I have had some amazing Mexican food. This was not as good as some of the restaurants that I have been to down there but considering that it is in the middle of Minnesota it was very good. The prices for the portion sizes were fair and they have happy hour everyday! Half price appetizers and $3.99 for a (lime only) margarita! I will definitely go back! Also we told our server that we loved the shirt that she was wearing and we wanted to know if we could buy a couple. (they were so cute they were black with a pair of neon sunglasses and a hot pink mustache on them. Of course they were an advertisement for Jose Cuervo but who cares?!?) she said that she would go and check and when she came back she told us that they did not have any of them to sell but she gave us three free shirts (They were for Dos Equis)!

Mexican Ranch This wasn't my pick but I'm willing to go with the flow. The chips were plentiful and included what they called Mexican Ranch - it tasted and looked like tartar sauce sans relish. I diverted from my standard tostada to try some cheesy goodness with their ranchera quesadilla. Perhaps I've been tainted by kids quesadillas where you take a tortilla and put stuff on half then fold it over, but these were served with a tortilla on the bottom, cheese and everything in between, and another tortilla on top, and cut. Totally impossible to eat with your hands, it became a mess on the plate. Huge menu, slow service, paid with cash the the server had to fumble around to find change as the register was empty. Maybe I can pick next time. :)

Do you like poor service and a waiter who tells you you're wrong? Do you like to be served poorly thought out dishes that make you wonder what in the world you're eating? If you like one or more of the questions above, El Loro is your place to go. Simply put, the food is terrible. I can forgive Americanized establishments like El Loro knowing that I don't live in Mexico, but the service here is truly awful. My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla. It looked more like chicken with cheese sauce stuffed between a folded tortilla. Our waiter was incredibly rude as well. I hope you enjoy waiting 15 minutes for water or having to beg another table's server because that's what we ended up doing. The mole sauce was just a foot north of redeemable but the chicken was dry, the guac bland, and the ingredients, cheap. It's like they decided to go shopping at Rainbow, buy the cheapest, nastiest, ingredients, cook with it, and then charge us $10. Don't go here, avoid it like the plague.

Service is very mediocre here. I usually get the Enchiladas Verde. The green tomatillo salsa is nice and spicy. The enchiladas and shredded beef leave a lot to be desired. I want the enchiladas from El Parian, minus half of the salt in their beef, with El Loro's sauce.

Restaurant Review Great food, poor service. Maybe because we did not order alcohol, but my pregnant wife and I (the driver) did not splurge on margaritas and were given the cold shoulder by the wait staff. This was sort of off the beaten path restaurant we found on trip advisor for a mexican meal. The food itself is not amazing sort of run of the mill mexican food with average prices. I can't say that I had a memorable experience and our waiter visited our table a total of 3 times (took our order, dropped the food off, and with the tab). Next time I'll pass Pro- None Con- Poor service, average food Hidden deal- None

Been here a few times. My wife really likes it. I had the beef fajitas which is a large portion. Beef could've beef spiced better but it was pretty good overall. $6.95 for a 34 oz DOS XX-not bad! The jumbo margarita my wife had was a whopping $12.99- pretty steep! Glad we looked at the bill so we know next time. Wife will have to shovel/mow lawns and save for the next one. Wife and adult daughter had combo numbers 23 and 25 they really liked. Service was acceptable and pretty fast. Little cool inside in winter months. Worth a try. Place is clean.

I really need to stop going to Mexican restaurants in Minnesota. I keep trying, thinking eventually I will stumble onto a good one but I am starting to doubt it. I do not know how these restaurants stay open. The chips and salsa ...... disappointing. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes with a little seasoning. The chips were not made in house and were just off. What the heck was that nasty Miracle Whip dip that they served? Yuck! Then came the fajitas, those are not fajitas.....FAIL! I want a thick, juicy skirt stake with flavor; I received some dried up beef (not skirt steak) that had little to no flavor. My husband complained about his margarita and said it wasn't very good. How is that possible, a bad margarita? I didn't know there was such a thing.... The tortillas also did not seem to be made in house. How difficult is it to make fresh tortillas? I make tortillas at home all of the time. I am just saddened by what passes for Mexican food in Minnesota. Time to step up the game.

Me encanta El Loro. It is a delicious and authentic Mexican restaurant. I get a different daiquiri every time but for my main course I always get the Tortilla soup! It is something I could live off of for the rest of my life. It is freshly made every day and it has not only chicken and tortilla but potato, avocado, and zucchini. The chips and salsa to start are free and delicious. I have also sampled the enchiladas verdes and they are also fantastic. The staff is friendly and efficient. I love this restaurant.

My favorite Mexican place in the Twin Cities. The white sauce they give you with the chips is like crack, its rediculously good! The fajitas are my favorite and they are always made with great beef and marinated to perfection. Awesome happy hours and the margaritas will get you there in a hurry!

Similar to the one in Apple Valley, but I prefer that one to this. Not quite sure why--maybe this one is a little less warm and fuzzy than the one in AV. No worries, though, as the food is always excellent. Gotta love the salsa! My fav is the chicken taquitos but the chilaquiles are also excellent. Rice is fluffy and yummy. Telenovellas on the TVs are a cute touch even if I can't understand what they're saying! Quality food, decent staff, value priced. What more can you want?

This has been a favorite of ours for some time. The family runs three restaurants in the area with the same name. All are good. Menu covers all the bases. One note, our visit tonight had the salsa tasting weak and the chimmi with a different sauce that was not as good as we have had in the past. Might be a new cook or an off night. Nonetheless we have had MANY fine meal here.

I give a full 5 starts just for the server MARTIN! He is amazing and the SOLE reason we have continued to go back there the past 4 years:) The food is good.. but standard. The chips and salsa are always yummy but definitely get the side of queso!

My go to place for Mexican food. I've been to the El Loro in Eagan, El Toro in Apple Valley and El Toro in Champlin and this El Loro is the best! The food comes out quickly and the service is wonderful. That could be because El Loro of Burnsville employs one of the best services I have every met, Martin. Friendly and accommodating, Martin is one of the main reason we go to El Loro of Burnsville. My favorite dish is the Fried Chicken Chimichangas crunchy on the outside with a layer of Mexican queso over the top, filled with a mixture of chicken and spices and served with salad and guacamole, rice or beans and of course chips and the best salsa and white sauce ever!!! They have a great happy hour specials too that are twice a day. If you are in the Southern Metro and hungry for some Mexican visit El Loro of Burnsville.

I came here the other night for their Happy Hour to celebrate my new job, lol. It actually occurs twice a day, during regular HH time and after 8pm. I haven't been to the Eagan location, eventhough it is closer to where I live, but the Burnsville location just screams Mexican restaurant as soon as you walk in. You are greeted with bright yellow/orange walls, posters of Modelo and Dos Equis, sombreros, and on the night we came, even a mariachi band! Definitely unexpected on a cold night up in the North, haha. The prices here are very reasonable, and during HH which serves drink specials and half-price appetizers, they are downright scary. The most expensive, and best, item on the appetizer menu are the shrimp fajita nachos, which are originally $12. If you try anything, try these. The Mexican-style Shrimp cocktail is an amazing value as well (I got the regular size and it had no less than 8-10 huge shrimp swimming in a pico sauce inside a margarita glass), and I went ahead and got a few enchiladas ala carte just to round out the experience - 1 beef with the regular red sauce (ok) and 1 chicken with tomatillo sauce (good) - they didn't have a sour cream sauce, which was pretty disappointing. The service itself was excellent - I was never once out of something to drink, and they kept the chips and salsa coming. The waiters seemed to work in teams and a couple of them came to check how I meal was coming along and asking if we needed anything else. I'll definitely be back here if only for the Shrimp Fajita nachos. Mucho excellente hombre!

Great service poor food. Very very bland. I felt like a fried some beef and it was a meal. Apparently they can't make bloody Mary's either. Won't be returning.

I've been to several different locations and have not been disappointed. They have many combinations of all different mexican food staples. Excellent drinks. Excellent prices. Everything tastes really good. I love that they have tamales. Not many places serve them at an affordable price. Also love the chips and salsa you get before the meal. They accommodate large groups very well.

Food was great!!!! I tried ordering a call Margarita it was going to be 14.00!!! I never want to pay more for a drink then my meal. Then I ordered a white Russian a big mistake. Took three people to make it, I couldn't even drink it too much vodka the cream was floating in the top. Bad cream I think. Friendly staff. Nice clean restaurant.

It's my fave Mexican place in the Twin Cities. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. The food is authentic and surprisingly cheap, especially during lunch (less than $7 a plate!). The patio at the Burnsville location is really nice, too.

El Loro never disappoints. The food is always hot and delicious. The staff is kind and they all help each other. It feels like a real family owned restaurant.

El Loro and El Toro are owned by the same group. Both restaurant chains are horrible. El Loro's chips and salsa are okay. To many of their dishes are just ground beef in different form, but with no modification. The only item on their menu that is tolerable is their steak fajitas.

My family and all our neighbors frequent here very often. The drinks are great and the food is better! Their combo plates are valued well and the chips/salsa/white sauce are so addictive you may need an intervention. Occasionally a staff member seems to be having a bad day but maybe it's because he was cut off from the chips. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for some good Mexican and maybe a cold cerveza.

Love this place, arrived at 11:30am to meet someone for lunch and was immediately assailed by someone who sat me at the booth closest the door so I could watch the door, immediately upon sitting down I was given a pile of fresh chips and salsa, and another dip that was like a Mexican cucumber sauce (yogurt? with lime, vinegar, cilantro, chili seasonings, wild guess but, very good. I was meaning to ask but, never did). Huge menu. Hunt through the Lunch specials as many of the one of a kind items are only on the lunch specials like the Chimi. The Chimi was deep fried goodness served with rice, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce?, and possibly beans. I had a great glass of iced tea along with it. Cheap menu, not very crowded, great super fast service. Huge menu. Hunt through the Lunch specials as many of the one of a kind items are only on the lunch specials like the Chimi. I've been craving Mexican food for a few weeks while staying in the area on business. My home is near Austin Texas which has some awesome Mexican restaurants -- so my standards may be pretty high. The service at El Loro was great, the chips and salsa were OK, the margarita was reasonably priced during happy hour and tasty if not terribly strong, and the chicken enchiladas were good.

Like the others, the El Loro - El Toro restaurants are better-than-decent Mexican food. Good salsa, fast service, reasonably-priced, clean, and a fun atmosphere all equal 4 stars. With the complimentary chips and salsa, they give you a side of ranchero sauce. At this particular location, they don't have a hotter salsa. If you ask, they will suggest a Salsa Verde. It's a buck more than expected ;) however, it's not exactly what I call hot, but its good. The patio and bar look real fun for the summer. Since they have two entrances, be sure to specify if you're meeting someone. Servers speak Spanish to you when counting back change, etc. I like it. Reminds me of Mexico and vacation!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
