Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

This Outback is literally attached to Comfort Inn where we stayed for Christmas shopping in MOA. So aside from a convenient location, this Aussie restaurant is famous for it's steak. Eventhough we were offered a two separate table for a group of nine, we didn't t really care at all since we were hungry and tired. Both group started with their famous blooming union which everybody loved, the saltiness of the batter is neutralized by the sweetness of the onion, plus it's so crispy, the killer is their special dip. I had the sirloin and grilled shrimp for the entree which I wasn't impressed, good thing I had Stella Artois for a drink just to add some flavor for my taste buds. The meat is kinda bland and dry for a well done piece. The shrimp is overcooked and salty. I would rather take out the blooming union and enjoy it in my room while watching some ball games. The wait is good, the price is okay but the food is so so...

An Outback is an Outback wherever you go. We stayed at the Comfort Inn where the Outback is located so we dropped in one night to get take out. We had their new "vegeterian" chicken special, which was a very small portion, but really good. The MILD buffalo wings were really spicy though. Makes me glad I didn't order medium (or HOT!). Our food was ready in ten minutes and they even gave us a loaf of bread to take with us. :)

Go for the bread.. stay for the steak.

I think my friend and I drove by this place 4 times before we realized it was at the Comfort Inn! I had the steak because I had been eating a vegetarian diet and was just dying for some red meat. The steak was forgettable. I seem to remember it being okay, but nothing special. What got me was the blooming onion. I fell in love with the blooming onion so much that I tried (and failed) many times to duplicate it at home. I've given up on getting my blooming onion like theirs. I crave the blooming onion. The sauce that it comes with is awesome, too. I took about half of the blooming onion home and had it the following day - cold - and it was still good. Is it right to give a place 4 stars because of one appetizer? I'm not really sure, but I'm doing it!

Advertised all you can eat shrimp, filet and 2 sides for $15.99 online. We get there and it's $16.99 with a sirloin not filet and 1 side. Was on a Saturday at 1:30 pm. Waited 45 mins no food so, we left. HORRIBLE experience.

Seriously great service. I love the low carb offering of Outback. I get the outback special, broccoli with the Mac cheese on the side (cost a $1) and the mushrooms instead of salad, no extra cost. The meal was perfectly done. I come to this outback every time I'm in town. But especially good service today from Mandy!

So happy this Outback is open for lunch. $8 lunch specials are awesome. The Filet is by far their best cut. Sad they don't have King Crab anymore, but it's a good place for a reasonably priced steak.

This is always a predictable place. I always enjoy the salmon. It is always consistent. A good place to go for a quick meal. Kid friendly.

Very busy location! We found a table in the bar area so expedited the 40 minute wait. Steaks were prepared as ordered and service was very good. A bit better than Timberlodge but certainly not Mancini's or Ruth Chris. Food was reasonably priced. Family left full and happy.

AWESOME Outback experience. If we wanted a table in the dining area it would have been a 20 minute wait, I can't believe it's still hopping at 7:40 pm! There were a bunch of seats open at the bar, and they served food there as well. So we decided to sit at the bar. We were immediately greeted and waited on. Our bartender took or orders and was very diligent. We did not wait long for our food. We ordered the Blooming Onion - kind of greasy but very good! I ordered the coconut shrimp which was AMAZING. My hubby ordered the outback burger medium rare and it was cooked appropriately. My beverage was a mini chocolate shake and it was VERY mini, it was cute not to mention delicious! Would definitely return! Their renovated restaurant is new feeling and modern!

We went here around 6:30pm, on a Sunday night, very crowded. We were having a late dinner with other family members. The Outback Steakshouse, now has on the web, a "put my name on your wait list," so, next time, I think we'll do that. All in all, with all the people there, we waited about 25 minutes, so not bad. Interior - just like all your other Outback Steakhouse Restaurant: clean, nice, comfortable. Service - good service Prices - comparable to other restaurants. Parking - private parking lot, so that's nice. We would go back, if ever in the area, but I don't think we will be. This was a stop over on the way home, to Denver.

Well... circumstances. Madly busy, we called ahead early in the day to reserve a spot for 9, and then we got to the restaurant 15 min early... and ended waiting 45 min after our original reservation time. So... what was the point in setting it up early? Big bar and crayons & coloring books for the kids. Water up front in the waiting area, but the glasses were so dirty that we just left it be. Seating there and buzzing devices in case you wanted to wander a bit into the hotel to play the video games in the hallway. Power went out just after they took our order at the table, so... more delays. They had to restart their whole computer system. No refill of my tea. And double and wrong appetizers came out. Burger too well done (couldn't eat it), steaks not cooked enough or too much, and overall just bad consistency with the orders. Service wasn't prompt (too crowded) and we ended up unsatisfied. The bright side, people loved the mushrooms in the french onion soup as a side, and the mac and cheese was good as a premium side. Make sure you specify if you want regular grill or wood-fired. Two very different tastes.

In Australia if someone serves you shit like this you're allowed to punch them in the face. This place sucks. The steak is the worst thing I have ever had, I wish I got my money back. I would give 0 stars if I could. Our server was nice at least. Seriously bad food, kitchen staff should be ashamed. I knew this place was gonna be bad but not this bad. A great lesson in what not to do. Edit: Why the f*ck is everything over salted. Edit: steak is definitely pre cooked and not cooked to order. Horrible.

Everything tasted good. The service was great. I can't complain about any of that. Although everyone at my table ended up sick between 1am and 3am the next morning. Vomiting and diarrhea but with no fever. Quite obviously food poisoning. The only thing that we all ate that was the same came from that restaurant. Obviously something wasn't prepared properly. We won't be returning.

Next to a Comfort Inn so if you stay nearby, it's convenient to eat here but I wouldn't revisit. Busy night on Sat so the service was horrible. Didn't have forks or knifes delivered to me that the next table had to give me theirs. Salad came out with wrong dressing. Steak over cooked and not quite medium rare. Too busy to make trouble for them to send it back. Lobster was grilled but too dry. I had tried other Outback having excellent service and despite the busyness. Even the manager came to the table and offered another free filet mignon and lobster when it wasn't cooked right. Waitress was friendly enough but too busy to care. Had to personally go to the bar for some napkins since no tablecloth was given. Not worth it for a $38 dinner plus a generous tip considering the service was $44. Will not visit again at this location.

I wanted to take some coworkers to lunch and we decided to get some steak from "down under." Is that the saying? Sounds weird, so probably not. Anyhow, Outback seemed like a fancy enough lunch, but still good on the budget. This location is pretty large, modernly decorated, and clean. We sat in the lounge/bar area. The lights were really bright here, I had sweat drips forming on my nose. I was also telling a story about my car purchasing experience which was making me very emotionally heated, so that could have been the issue too... Our server came right away, I noticed later that this poor guy was the only one serving the lounge area and bartending. He was awesome even though he was alone. It was also getting busy over the lunch hour. My water refills still came very quickly, and he stopped to check on us frequently. He was very attentive to our table. I wish he had an Australian accent though. They have a lunch menu with many options at fair prices. There's a $7.99 you pick option as well with a variety of choices. I asked the server what his favorites were and the first thing he said was the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, buffalo style, so that's what I went with, but opted for the vegetable melody instead of a potato. We also ordered Calamari and the famous Bloomin' Onion. The fried onion had the texture of crispy and crunchy mixed with soft and gooey, my favorite textures. Even better with the spicy sauce. Yeah, I know the fried onion is a little old school, but hey, you don't always need to mess with the classics. The calamari on the other hand, was a disaster. Upon the first bite I discovered it was fried to a crisp. The squid inside was like a chip, some breading fell off and we could see freezer burn!! I showed our server and he even came back and said yeah the chef looked at it and sent his apologies too. Several minutes later the table next to us ordered the calamari and our server shared with him what we found and advised him not to order it. Kudos to him! The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was huge! I liked it even more than I was expecting. I have a terrible problem of going to restaurants known for specific items, and not ordering that. I thought I'd regret not ordering steak, but this sandwich did not disappoint. Although our server was alone, he was fast. The issue was the kitchen took forever to bring our food after our appetizers. It was a good 20 minutes. We got there a little after 11:30am, our food arrived at 12:30pm. I'd come back here, but skip the calamari, and anticipate a longer lunch.

If this was just about our server Molly, it would get 5 stars, she was attentive and friendly. The food was good as well, a little slow coming out but was tasty once on the table. The reason for the low stars is that there was a table that had some adults and children on the other side of our booth. I don't know if it was an employee that was in on a day off, or if it was just someone that everyone knew, but these kids kept running and skipping by our table every 3-5 minutes from their table to the adjacent hotel lobby area, back and forth, back and forth. At least 10 times while we were trying to have a relaxing time. At one point, I saw one of them jumping up and down on the waiting area furniture. No one was saying anything, and there were at least 6 employees witnessing this circus. The last straw, which is what prompted this review was that one of the kids while running around recklessly, bumped the emergency door so we got to listen to the door alarm go off. It just would have been nice if any of the employees would have said something to the table. It made our Outback experience feel a little bit like Chuck E Cheese.

  • Kris K.

Service was great and waiter was really nice and attentive. Unfortunately I don't remember the Bloomin' Onion being as greasy as ours was and the salad said mixed greens but was just iceberg lettuce and a little red cabbage.

Outback has had a little change of menu and prices since I have been there last and for the value I think you get excellent service and a great meal. I sat at the bar and they have little place cards that let you know all the bartenders names and they introduced themselves and were very friendly. Most drinks are around the 4.00 range. I had a blackberry martini and also tito's vodka screwdriver. The salad was delicious and also my steak, bread, and potato...all delicious. I spent 25.00 on a nice relaxing steak dinner for myself and enjoyed every morsel.

Standard Outback. They were packed because of the All Star Game. Our server(skinny brownhaired guy) was excellent, and made our having to sit in the bar better with great service.

  • Josie B.

Awful service. They carded me and said I had a fake id. Then they couldn't get our drinks right and took FOREVER to get our food out. Then they forgot my sister asked for shrimp. The cocktail sauce had a ton of vinegar in it. There were lumps of something in the ranch. My steak was supposed to be medium well and they gave me rare. They were really rude. Waiters kept walking by and glaring at me, really. DO NOT GO HERE.

    (1)
  • Chris O.

Terrible. Do not waist time or money. Order your dinner. Hear comes the bread and beverage. All is good. Next comes the salad. No problem even though it is off color from oxidation of the leaves. Before half the salad is consumed they plop the rest of the meal down, "Can I get you anything else?". Yeh, a heat lamp for my entree while I finish my salad.

Great for family night or just a drink to yourself .. Atmosphere is chill, full bar is a plus and if your staying at the comfort inn it's a double ++:) To have a really good rest next to a hotel is perfect ! And the price is reasonable .. Not like these other hotels w a no name rest.. The 4 course meal is $15-a steal .. Salad soup entree dessert :) just $15 ! So worth it and if u like sports it had 5 diff TVs showing diff games .. There's a lot of bartenders and waiters including runners so there isn't a moment where your just waiting to be served - great service here - I love it :) if your from out of town this is a good place to stay at comfort inn and eat at the "outback" in my Australian accent hahahahha

This review is for my most recent visit to this restaurant. I have been to this location 3 times in the last 18 months. This particular location is attached to a hotel so can often be busy when you wouldn't expect. While there is usually a wait time for a table, it's not extensive. Our server, Molly, was extraordinary. Helpful without hovering and never had to ask for refill. Knowledgeable about the menu and options. Very pleased with her. The rest of the staff, however, was only average at best. The food was great - as always - although their new mac & cheese side dish should be avoided. Dry and tasteless. This location feels like it needs an overhaul - either in management or staff. Just gives of this tired, "been there, done that" kind of vibe.

Excellent service at the bar during rush hour. Friendly bartenders & extremely fast food service & extremely hot. Highly recommend!

A friend of the family was in the cities for business, so my mother and I decided to join him for dinner. He was staying at the Radisson, and this was literally right down the road, and seemed our tastiest option open (it was 9:30 on a Sunday, our other options were Chipotle and McDonalds). We came in right before the dinner seating area closed up, so we offered to sit in the bar instead. The server was friendly, and the food is as good as it'll ever be at an Outback - that is, more than adequate, but probably not "the absolute best ever". Service was prompt and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner. Our bill came to just under $100 for the three of us, with three entrees, a blooming onion, and one alcoholic drink. So, all in all, pretty standard fare for an Outback, but Outback also is still somewhere worth going if you're trying to figure out a nice place for dinner.

  • Grace H.

Pretty standard. I've had similar experiences in multiple locations. Overall the food has been decent and server ok for the price you pay. I would rather go to someplace with more character but if you want consistency and comfort perhaps you should opt for Outback. This place is as good as any other.

I've eaten at this location for dinner with my husband and toddler a couple months ago and last night I ordered take away from them. Both experiences were overall good. When eating there, our son wasn't wanting to sit or eat. Our server was so good about it. She brought out a little bowl of shredded cheese for him. It was enough to get him to relax and enjoy the rest of our time. Last night I ordered online and was quoted 5:29 for pick up. A girl literally came out with my hot meal at that time. I didn't have to wait any additional time. Our meals were exactly as requested. I would definitely recommend them as a convenient place to grab dinner after work without sacrificing quality.

We got a rare night away from the kiddo last week so we decided to head to Outback. We love the Bloomin' Onion, and of course ordered it. It did not disappoint! I also ordered the 6 oz filet and it was awesome. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. BF ordered a porterhouse and he liked it, though he said it was more of a T-bone than a porterhouse. We also had GREAT service. The server we had was super friendly. I took off a star because I put us in the "wait less" list online hours before going, and when we arrived the host confirmed we were on it. However, we ended up waiting about a half hour, even though there were only a handful of people waiting. The Wait Less list is not very well named. Otherwise dinner was great!

  • Bob A.

It's easy to see why this place is packed any night of the week. Great food and beer for reasonable price. If you love steak, this is the best value in town. The only negative is that it gets crowded and kind of noisy but they still serve quickly.

It's a chain in the Burbs but it's Australian, Kranky! I admit it's been a while but I have always had a beef with this place. My fond memories include a Blooomin Onion that was cold and greasy and a slice of prime rib that made me say to the waiter "If you were me, would you eat this"? He didn't even answer, he simply took my plate away and came back 10 minutes later with another slice of prime rib. Now I may have been an ass but I sent that one back as well without asking for his feelings on it. I always expect a little grizzle on prime rib but when 50-60% of the slice is all grizzle that is where I draw the line. I've seen too many movies that show you what goes on behind the scenes when someone sends back food. Because of that I barely ate the prime rib, damn movies. There are way to many steak houses around to ever go back here. Plus, in my view a steak is something that anyone can cook but a good steak is worth a couple of extra dollars. Like comparing McDonald's to my favorite Juicy Lucy, both are burgers but a world apart. KT

my absolute favorite place for steak, a loaded baked potato, salad and those Aussie Cheese Fries, what can I say... a must have. Great food and service at the locations I've visited both here and back home in the Detroit area.

Friendly and timely service every time I go here. The steaks are great, and seasoned nicely. I have yet to have a bad experience here. Keep up the good work guys!

Took two tries to get a warm meal and a steak that the fork could penetrate-on the bright side, the server was smiling and efficient and the salad and bread were good. Cold sauteed mushrooms were not appealing.

Maybe it's because Minnesotans love indie mom and pop shops, but disliking a place because it's a chain is simply stupid. Food quality, atmosphere, and service are more important than whether another place with the same name exists 10 miles down the highway. With that said, the Bloomington Outback has never failed to satisfy. The prices on the food are as reasonable as any basic sit down place, but with the unlimited warm bread they bring out, you'll be sure to get your fill no matter what. The quality of the food has always been consistent for as long as I've frequented (over six years now). The servers are usually friendly, always professional, with the exception of the floor manager, who seems to always have a chip on his shoulder. I have never experienced draftiness in the restaurant, but the lights above the tables have no coverings and seemed to be placed just perfectly for shining in your eye. That's really my only complaint with this place. Recommended stop if you're in the area.

I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this place, or if my review will actually count. I'm not a huge red meat fan, I don't really care for steaks very much, but my boyfriend and I were in the area, looking for a place to eat, and when he mentioned a steak would be nice, we went in here. I thought the place was OK. Like I said, I'm not a huge steak fan, but I opted for one this time, anyways. Personally, I felt my steak was a little over-seasoned. But I prefer bland foods anyways (or so I've been told). Kyle really liked his steak. We both got pretty much the same thing. He got the 9 ounce outback steak, and I got the 6 ounce. The size was perfect, and the it came with your choice of potato and one other side. I just got two sides of vegetables. For being chain restaurant-style vegetables. They really weren't that bad. They were really buttery and slimy with seasoning again, so they tasted a little funky, but nothing really to complain about. You get squash in them too! I love squash so, that was pretty cool. The decor of the restaurant is pretty cool, the whole Australian theme. It was a nice change, I didn't know what to expect at all, so when I was looking around, I noticed the place was pretty clean, and reasonably decorated. I hate restaurants that just tack up the tackiest crap on their walls. Not only that, they cover every inch of those walls with pure tack! I don't get it. I'd probably go back if we drove by again, and he wanted a steak. I enjoyed the martini I had, It was the blueberry martini. It was good. I do think it was a bit pricey though.. Maybe not, I don't eat steaks that much, so I am not sure what those are suppose to cost at all. Oh well, it's good!

Great place to get a meal on Bloomington strip. Yes it is a chain. Have eaten there dozens of times the last couple years and can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience. Good steaks, appetizers, and more. Is always busy-but never more than a couple minute wait. Definitely seems like it is a popular spot with out of town travelers. Prices are fair. You will not go broke eating at Outback.

The food was great. Our waiter Morgan did a superb job. We will go back to this place.

Service was great and waiter was really nice and attentive. Unfortunately I don't remember the Bloomin' Onion being as greasy as ours was and the salad said mixed greens but was just iceberg lettuce and a little red cabbage.

Sad they don't have King Crab anymore, but it's a good place for a reasonably priced steak.

my absolute favorite place for steak, a loaded baked potato, salad and those Aussie Cheese Fries, what can I say... a must have. Great food and service at the locations I've visited both here and back home in the Detroit area.

Friendly and timely service every time I go here. The steaks are great, and seasoned nicely. I have yet to have a bad experience here. Keep up the good work guys!

Spent the night at the attached comfort inn. The comfort isn't much to brag About. Outback almost made it worth it. Great rare prime rib and good service. I dig it.

KT

It's easy to see why this place is packed any night of the week. Great food and beer for reasonable price. If you love steak, this is the best value in town. The only negative is that it gets crowded and kind of noisy but they still serve quickly.

  • Chris O.

Order for takeout, the steak was fantastic and all the sides were good also. Food was hot and stayed hot until I was able to eat it.

Guess you should not expect much from a chain. Issues with both meals. Temperature quality of steaks. Servers very attentive. Was not bad but not great.

This restaurant is very drafty. A huge wind turbine-like flow comes from adjacent hotel. We left because we couldn't stand the high force winds.
