Gyropolis

I'm from the Chicago area. So this is fair warning to anyone who has had gyros done right. In any decent gyros joint around Chicago, the meat will be carved fresh off the spit for each sandwich (and maybe tossed on a hot grill) to make sure one side of each piece is crisp and the other juicy. At Gyropolis they carve it constantly and dump it in a steam table tray. The meat is standard commercial stuff like Kronos. That's fine, but the way they handle it you end up with a pita full of mushy grey meat. I guess this what other reviews mean by "tender." I fell for the reviews. I'm sorry, dearly beloved locals, it could be so much better.
Surprisingly good for an unassuming setting. The pitas were good quality, even if not freshly made. What impressed me was the speedy, friendly service and the high quality vegetables, which are usually the weakness of this type of shop. I had the veggie lover's gyro, which trades some of the gyro meat for a greater variety and quantity of fresh vegetables. This suited me quite well. I also tried some of the hummus and falafel, which were also quite good. The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the servings are quite well sized. The pitas may not look that big, but they are fully stuffed.
I ordered a gyro platter and some seasoned fries to go. I thought the gyro meat had a good and balanced flavor and seasoning. I got there about an hour before they were closing, so i think they just had some meat carved on the side. It's probably even better when it comes directly off the gyro machine. I'm not sure why they couldn't give me the spicy gyro meat for the platter, but they did offer me some of the spicy sauce on the side. It wasn't really spicy though, so I wish it had more of a kick to it. The greek salad was what you would typically expect, the rice was good as well. I do wish the pita bread was more warm and if it was crispier. Overall though, the prices and amount of food you get is very reasonable. I'd definitely visit this place again!

I have been waiting for Pinkberry to open up! (sound like a familiar line? Just look at everyone else's reviews!) I no longer have to wait for my annual trip to NYC to get some of this delicious frozen yogurt. I know others make similar products, but this is still my holy grail. I love adding mochi, and then tons of fresh fruit. Original is always my favorite, but grapefruit is pretty awesome too. Yay for Macy's to bring Pinkberry to Minneapolis!
When i lived in CA a new type of frozen yogurt place sprung up and became alltherage -- a "real" tart frozen yogurt with fruit as toppings. The pioneer in this type of place was Pinkberry. It celebrates the actual taste of yogurt versus trying to have frozen yogurt emulate (and miss) ice cream. Not sure how this will go over with midwestern tastes (have you been a WI grocery store ice cream aisle???) but the tart plain frozen yogurt is the only way to go if you don't go super high end ice cream. But -- Google it -- you will find that the centimillionaire co-founder/owner of Pinkberry was arrested last year for allegedly nearly beating to death a homeless man who asked him for spare change. So, I'm thankful that Pinkberry started this genre of frozen yogurt, but just on principle alone I go to other places. Locally, my favorite so far is Yogurt Lab with Menchies as a second favorite. 4 Stars for being awesome. -3 for Homeless Man beatings.
When I was in New York and California a couple years back I completely fell in love with Pinkberry. When the froyo craze swept through Minnesota this past year, I couldn't help but compare every other place to Pinkberry. Imagine my delight when I literally stumbled into this Pinkberry. It is located on the first floor of Macy's in MOA so the location is a bit annoying but the froyo is literally the best in MN. Get an original in medium with some fruit and chocolate wafers. You can thank me later!

We love this place! I work near here and it's an office staple. For the price (and a like), it's the best take out Chinese we've all had!
Been eating here for years, and we're never disappointed. Sesame chicken is our favorite- made extra spicy on request!
One of the best Chinese restaurants I frequently eat at. Excellent service and good hot food. Under new ownership and besides buffets this is the best neighborhood Chinese eatery.

Finally, a breakfast spot my husband can stand. I love breakfast in any form, but the true test is if my husband and I can BOTH be happy at the same joint. This place has an amazing selection (I'm not one to judge the authenticity), ranging from adventurous and just plain delicious. So far I haven't been able to stray from the Swedish pancakes. I got them the first time we went in right when they opened and they're so good I just can't stand not ordering them. My husband loved his Greek omelet on our last visit, though it could have had a little extra feta (if you like feta, just ask for a little more both inside and on top). Our waitress was Deb, who was incredibly professional and was one of the best service experiences we've had in the local area. Also, on a side note, for our wedding five years ago we ordered about a dozen different cakes from this place to have a variety of choices for our guests, and they are to die for. Update: We've now been going to TOS for years, and this place has yet to disappoint. We've had graduation parties, family breakfasts, birthdays, you name it, all right here. Everyone loves it!
I was really hoping for more traditional Finnish bakery items like lihapiirakka (meat pasty) or Joulutorttu (prune tarts) that are easy enough to make, but it was all pretty akin to IKEA cafeteria levels of Scandinavian. I guess you can't expect a lot from a place inside a grocery store, but it was a pretty good size selection and seating area. If you're more into Norwegian fare like lefse and kringler, they seem to have you covered, but for their bakery selection (I didn't sit down to look over their menu as I wanted to just run in and check it out so maybe that has more traditional items), it was disappointing to see. There was also no one behind the counter when I arrived and no one greeted me after standing there perusing the offerings for a few minutes. On the plus side, they had a pretty clean bathroom available.
Excellent breakfast with some unique offerings like the gyro omelet! Coffee is really good since it is Dun Bros. really busy on the weekend with lots of the senior citizen crowd. Service can be spotty

Looks are decieving. The exterior does not do this place justice. The food is great, inside is comfortable and both me and everyone with me were inpressed. Cost of food is cheap but very good. Thumbs up keep up good work.
I've lived in Bloomington within a half-mile of Shanytown for over 20 years and I've realized after all these years, I've haven't given the place the attention it deserves. Shanytown is an old hole-in-the-wall somewhat rustic and rikity in its own ways, and that's what makes it a great "hideout" where you can walk in not knowing anyone, but feel like you could all just break out and have a great time over some beers and burgers. Yes, the nearby Sports Page is much bigger and a newer (since remodeling) environment. But, Shanytown burgers are seasoned and have better flavor, and in my opinion just a better all-around burger, plus you can get tator tots...and Cajun tots at that! Shanytown is a small place but they keep busy and that says a lot. Don't let the flimsy screen door at the entrance fool you. Go, and enjoy a great burger and a few beers. Don't forget some tots!
This is good dive bar not too far from the over-priced Mall of America area. It looks kind of rough from the outside but is much better on the inside. (There was literally a pointy bearded biker smoking a cigar outside the night that I was there.) Fast friendly service. Reasonably priced beer and bar food. I could hang out there and will be back for sure. It's a 4 star dive bar. Same food in a nicer setting would only earn it 3.

Corporate Eats has a number of locations throughout the Cities. I first became familiar with them when I worked Downtown Minneapolis and went to Mykenna's. The owner named many of the restaurants after his own kids. (Don't worry. He doesn't have that many, so the other names are in honor of other people. You'll see names on the menus as well.) If you know the area around France Avenue and 494, it can be a circus at lunchtime. Well, you have an alternative to fighting traffic and lines for food. Tucked away in between two office buildings on the 'Concourse' is Isabella's. There's lots of room to eat and a variety of menu items. Salads, sandwiches, grill items, three soups, there's something for everyone. They do breakfast as well, but since I was working from home today, I biked over for lunch. The food hits the spot and the people are friendly. The one downside is no free refills on drinks, but I'll get over it. There's an Isabella's Too across the street in the Wells Fargo building, and another sister restaurant in the Centennial Lakes complex across 494.

Wally’s Roast Beef

Reviews:
Best roast beef sandwiches. Period. Cheap and delicious. I only wish they were open longer.
This is about as classic Minnesotan as it gets. The only reason that it isn't as well known as Mickeys is that Bloomington keeps it like a secret.
I have been going to Wally's for years and years and I have always been happy with my meal and service. Lately I have come in to the restaurant and every time I order a Roast Beef sand-which the meat has been so rare and they barely add any meat to the bun anymore. I get like two slices of really rare, cold beef and it just isn't appetizing. Several people that I know that go there have also noticed the lack of Beef on the sand-which and that it is extremely rare roast beef, and the hot sandwiches are never served hot. Maybe they will realize when some customer gets food poisoning from there rare sandwich that it just isn't appetizing anymore.

Penn Lake Roast Beef

Reviews:
Weird place. Wally's Roast Beef had it's head chef start his own business and this is it. So, there are two Roast Beef places within a half mile stretch in Bloomington and they both are delicious. Kind of a weird, not clean but not dirty place. By no means do I think it's dirty but it reminds me of being a vacated Walgreens. Not too fancy but a great place to go for a quick BBQ sandwich for lunch.
It looks like the cook at Wally's has started his own business in the strip mall across from the old Wallys. It's virtually identical to the old Wallys with the same food. There's some changes, they do breakfast starting at 7 but other than that it's the same. The beef seems to be cooked for longer and there seemed to be less meat in my sandwich than I'm used to. They've just opened and it's not the slick operation that Wally is. The cash register was playing up when I was there and the meatloaf sandwich took forever to arrive. Hopefully they can work out the snags since it's closer to work and less busy than the new Wallys.
Its a solid beef sandwich, it reminded me a lot of Mavericks in Roseville. They had their 2 year anniversary so beef sandwiches were on sale 2 for $6. How can you beat that.? Optional toppings at the sideboard included horse radish sauce, jalapeno peppers, and onions. I would have liked to have seen ground horseradish, but jalapenos will do in a pinch. Its in a strip mall next to a sporting gear shop, so ambiance is not its forte. But, if someone asks me "Where's the beef?" I can say "Penn Lake" without a moments hesitation.

Good as always. Fast and open until 11pm which is nice. The staff was really nice and after a rough day made things a little better.
I am a huge fan of Culver's and this location doesn't disappoint. The only weird thing about this location is the entrance. We always seem to have to cross right in front of the drive through lane to get inside, which makes me a little nervous because people are usually idiots when it comes to driving. Other than that, it's everything you'd expect in a Culver's, friendly staff and good food. Well, good fast food. If you've never been to a Culver's try the frozen custard. You won't be disappointed.
Normally I don't review chains as a general practice, but I found this particular Culver's particularly noteworthy. First of all, it's really big. There's a second back room that actually has two flat screen TVs (not huge ones, but they do the job). Second, I found the customer service at this Culver's to be even higher than normal. I noted the manager approaching a table full of seniors and offering them all coffee refills. I also noted that those drinking coffee at that table had actual ceramic mugs -- a nice touch for a group that I assume was made up of regulars. It's the little things that count.
