Planned to celebrate my birthday there with the family. Arrived a few minutes before our reservations and when the hostesses stopped chatting amongst themselves, we were told that we didn't have any reservations anymore, we should have been there a half hour earlier. I understand mistakes can be made and the customer might have to wait, but a little courtesy and apology goes a long way. Instead we got major attitude. The kids wanted to stay, so we took the buzzer that was thrown at us and decided to wait. Almost immediately, we were taken in with two very large groups for a total of 9 diners at a table. They were directed to sit at the "normal seats" and my family of 4 were left with 3 seats crammed together and another one sitting so far away from the corner that the place setting was behind two other plates. Needless to say, we left. None of the other tables had more that 6 or 7 guests.

Not only do people I know speak very highly of hibachi style restaurants, but Benihana is usually the top pick. I was excited to go on a Monday evening when I figured the experience would go quicker. Wrong. We had a reservation at 7:00, but didn't actually get seated until 7:20 or so. Our server came right away and took our drink order, and then came back 20 minutes later. ???? We finally ordered, but it was easily another 20 minutes before our soup and salad showed up and then finally our chef. The food was all good, not great. The whole experience, from being seated to exiting the restaurant took 2 1/2 hours. There are two things that were a big plus though! One member of our party had a shellfish allergy and they were so great at accommodating her by cooking her entree in the back. And if you are in a hurry you could always sit at a regular table and order your entree, because they come so much faster than our food at the hibachi table!

Eh. My go to date night every a few months is hibachi because it is yummy and fun! I've been to at least two dozen different locations/businesses in the Tri-State (NJ, NY, RI) and New England areas so I think I have a bit of background experience to compare. Highs: -$15.00 shrimp/scallop lunch combo -no wait for seating during lunch hour (1:30pm) -EXCELLENT flavor on all food (seafood, rice, vegetables, etc.) I didn't even touch the sauces on the side! Lows: -mediocre service: forgot my order, forgot my extra side, took away my water/plate when I told them I wasn't done, pretty small portions (maybe that's just how much they serve for lunch?) All and all, it's a worth it but not somewhere I'll return to during my next visit. I'll probably try somewhere new

First, I LOVE benihanas. Have been to 2 in Minnesota and another in Atlanta. I've had wonderful food and customer service at all. So imagine my surprise when I went to the benihanas at the mall of America and had mediocre food and less than satisfying customer service experience! Go to their other location in St. Louis park/golden valley. Service is always 100% as well as food!

Go to Osaka if you want hibachi. The food was terrible - steaks overcooked and full of gristle, veggies cooked to mush, and the fried rice was full of burnt eggs. The bigger problem was that the "chef" was downright creepy. He made too many "sexual motions and faces" at our 15 year old exchange student throughout the meal. He also made stabbing motions at her, that while were supposed to be funny, came off as creepy and pretty scary once you notice the MS-13 gang tattoos all over. Not sure what they're hiring practices are, but this guy would have been better off in a back room not dealing with customers. We'll never be back again.

They gave a pager with more than half the tables available and told me 20 minutes. After 30 we asked when and they misunderstood, told us there was no list and sat us immediately. We asked for the table to be wiped as there was food still on it and the girl gave back talk. We got water and didn't see the server for 45 minutes. She kept getting our orders mixed up. 1 person was skipped on the appetizers. Food was cold when it came out for half the table. 10 minutes later the rest of the entrees were delivered and the sauces. And we asked for everything at least twice. Server spilled a pitcher of water on the table and we kept asking for napkins for it. 20 minutes later we got a couple. 90 minutes inside the restaurant (not at a hibachi table) and the worst service I have had in a long time. No comp of even a drink.

First, I must preface to say that I absolutely LOVE Benihana. However, this location has the worst service ever. If this is your first time visiting Benihana, I would not recommend this place as it will taint your view of how service should be. Second, I would never visit Mall of America on the weekend because the traffic to get in the parking lot would be enough to deter anyone. My experience at this location has always been Monday-Thursday. Now that I have those caveats out the way, my review: As stated, Service is just completely horrible. Even with a reservation you are guaranteed to wait 10 additional minutes minimum. Not just for hibachi but for a regular table. Not so bad, but it makes me wonder why even bother making a reservation. The bar area is not able to take reservations for to-go order. I think that is the craziest thing I have ever heard. No wonder the front desk is so swamped. They are juggling reservations, walk-ins, and to-go orders. Doesn't sound like a lot, but my experience has shown that they can't handle all this. The waiters are generally very nice but again, their service is just not worth anything. On different occasions, I have had the waitress forget to see the tea that comes with the 6 course meal. Forget to bring alcoholic drinks from the bar. Forget to give the guest at the table with birthdays their complimentary ice cream. Not have the stations prepped for the chef before he arrives. Not have the guests order printed before the chef arrives to cook. Etc.... Again, all these complaints would not be such a big deal if you didn't know what all your $30 per plate should get you. But since I am a fan of Benihana I know enough to say that I am glad we have other locations in the Twin Cites because I don't plan to frequent his location in the future.

The nice thing about Benihana is that the food is so amazing that it trumps anything bad. I will say this location is louder than the other ones I've been to simply bc it is in the middle of the MOA and it's pretty popular. The service is ok, but they always have gotten us in close to our reservation and the food is always amazing.

With reservations..... 45 minutes to wait with empty tables. It took 20 minutes to get water. It took another 10 to see the cook. He started at 8 and finally at 9 pm we get the final part of our entree. It was a great show for kids, mediocre food. Waiter was great though.

The atmosphere was great, I sat with others to make a table I had the scallops they were excellent. service was great ordered a sushi roll with jalapeño and hot cheese sauce it was great like a nacho filled up!

The food was just OKAY. You only pay for the dramatics of hibachi and not necessarily the quality of the food. Filling? Yes. Overly salty? Yes. Will I be back? Probably not.

Had a wonderful experience...was invited by a friend who rented the party room, which was an awesome layout... two Hibachi half tables facing each other so we (I think 6 on each table) all got to converse across the table comfortably while we waited for the Hibachi chefs to came out for their "performance"... Once the chefs came out, they did not disappoint... they did amazing performances...first stir frying the veggies...creating an onion volcano...etc then creating the amazingly yummy fried rice... the food was awesome! I got the steak and lobster, my mom got the scallops, one friend got the tuna...we all tasted each others foods...very, very good! After dinner, although my mom and I left (we were stuffed!) others went to ColdStone Cremery for ice cream... which sounded like a good plan if we weren't so stuffed! Again, an awesome experience... a fantastic idea to build Benihana at the Mall of America!

The scallop hibachi was excellent. 5/5 The hibachi chef martin was excellent. 5/5 The salad and soup that comes with the meal tasted like something from Denny's. 1/5 The server was never really present. 2/5 The Tokyo mule sucked and was the worst cocktail I've had in a while. 1/5 I love hibachi places but I will never dine at another Benihana's.

If you know me, you know that I hate malls. Going to the Mall of America is torture. My kids love it, so I suck it up a few times a year and take them to any chain restaurant they want. Enter Benihana visit. Our waitress was delightful- Beth I believe was her name. She was caring, prompt and even brought little hats for my girls. Our chef's name was "Mar-teen." He was fine. Kind of like the food. Not good, not bad. They do have a pretty great kids menu which includes some ice cream as dessert. I just got the shrimp, cause that's how I roll. Overall, my kids loved it but I am not in a rush to return.

Other reviews are correct. Poor for a Benihana. Our service was terribly slow and we were there for lunch on a slow midweek afternoon. Habachi chef was only going through the motions, too bad.

My 12 friends and I had the worst experience ever. This is something my friends thought I should share in case anyone else has had a bad experience too. The birthday girl made reservations at 8pm, but because there were still a few people missing, they did not seat us. After waiting 45 minutes past reservation for a table, the 3 hosts said they took off her reservation and the group will now have to wait until 9pm. Well 9pm passes and it's been an hour and a half. They truly had no care in the world and and seated 4 other groups before us. We even had judgmental glares and it made us feel uncomfortable. The group I went with was very diverse and we all felt like they were putting us last on the list. We went to the bar and ordered a drink while we waited. The three host girls at the entrance were not polite and to be honest, it's a customer service job...so try to drive customers away! One of our foodie friends did file a complaint to corporate. Something needed to be addressed for how unimportant they made the group feel, screwed the birthday girls reservation, and her other reservation downtown...all because they made us be last on the list! Something wasn't right. That's for sure. Sure the food is good but they just lost business with 12 customers for life. Recommend? ABSOLUTELY NOT

I haven't been to a Hibachi place in a while and had been craving it for months... Luckily my mother's birthday provided the perfect excuse to go! This location is very convenient because it's inside the Mall of America. I think this gives mall shoppers a great alternative to the normal mall food court options. We made our reservations for 7pm, but arrived a little early at 6:15, we still ended up waiting until 6:45 to be seated. The menu is pretty diverse with it's sushi and hibachi selections, but doesn't offer a lot of alternatives for those who might not want to participate in the unique dining experience. Our chef was great in displaying his talented cooking skills with lots of food flipping and a few jokes here and there to keep everyone at the table entertained. The food was just a bit too salty for some of our tastes. At the end of our meal, we ended up with a group picture for the birthday girl and they provided us with a free print out of it to take home! Overall, it was a pretty good experience.

Benihana ha really headed downhill in the last ten years. The service during my last three visits in the twin cities was terrible. In any event, their drinks are OK and their sushi is a 7/10 IMO. If you must go try the Gotham roll

My boyfriend and I fell in love with this restaurant. We always make reservations because we hate waiting. The waiters are very helpful and friendly and the chefs are amazing and very entertaining! We go here at least 2 times a month, all the chefs already know us haha and we will keep on returning because not only is the food amazing but the service is great!

Best hibachi in MN! I always go here when I can afford it. The food is always amazing! I've never had a bad experience at any of the locations in MN. They always do a perfect job!!! We celebrate my wife and my 1 year wedding anniversary here and the manager went above and beyond to make sure it was a anniversary we would remember!!!

Came in on a Friday afternoon right before dinner time. It was not busy at all so we were immediately seated. Lots of employees, however not all were very attentive to the napkin scraps that were left on our table for over 10 minutes. As for food - sushi was mediocre, we were charged for slices of jalapeños had we wanted some, which I was completely taken back by. To dime and nickel customers over minimal things such as this - looks bad on the business. Our server was nice and checked on us quite frequently.

The decor was neat. I like japanese culture. Our server was very attentive and made good suggestions. Both the server and chef confirned what my boyfriend and I wanted which can be a good thing but saying that I wanted my beef cooked medium four times seemed kind of excessive. Our chef had a sense of humor and he seemed like he was trying hard but I think other cooks had either more experience or hibachi skills. Also, not to be racist since the Japanese population isn't that high in MN but having a mexican chef at a Japanese restaurant was slightly dissapointing. My boyfrirnd complained about the inauthenticuty and greasiness of the food. I thought it was comparable to Ichiban. We're in the Midwest, take what you can get I guess.

The service at Benihana's in the Mall of America is horrendous! I made reservations at this location for 8:00pm on December 29th, 2014 to celebrate my brother's birthday. I chose this location, which was the farthest distance away from us, because they had the earliest reservation available on short notice. When we arrived at 8:00pm, we were told that they were running about 10 to 15 minutes behind. We completely understood, this being a busy time of year, and simply sat down near the hostess stand to wait our turn. At 8:30pm we still had not been seated. Several groups of people were sat at hibachi tables before us, some of whom had arrived after us. So we asked the hostess if there was immediate seating available in the lounge for our group. We were quite hungry, and having seen the hibachi presentation before, we thought we'd skip the show and get our food faster instead. The hostess proceeded to tell us that a hibachi table would be available in another 10 to 15 minutes (a total of 45 minutes after our reserved time if we waited), but that yes, if we wanted, there was immediate seating in the lounge...however, we would have to wait for the next available staff person to seat us. We said that was fine and waited for a hostess to take us to our table. Fifteen minutes later, at 8:45pm we still hadn't been seated. We had to go ask the hostess again if we could be seated in the lounge and finally someone brought us to a table in an empty lounge. That's right, the lounge was completely empty, and all of the tables were clean and unoccupied. Quite discouraging to see after you and your family have been waiting 45 minutes for a table you already reserved. Once seated, we waited another 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order. Beyond frustrated, a bus boy finally wandered by and we asked to see a manager. The manager apologized and was kind enough to offer us discounted meals if we were willing to stay. Having waited nearly an hour, we were now incredibly hungry, the other restaurants in the mall were beginning to close, and we figured since we'd spoken to management things would go smoothly, so we decided to stay. The waitress came shortly after with waters and proceeded to take our order. After ordering, we waited nearly 10 minutes for our soup and salad to be served (it's now 9:15pm). At 9:30pm our entrees finally arrived. Unfortunately the vegetables were cold, the shrimp appetizer was over cooked and luke warm, and only the very center of the fried rice was actually hot. When our waitress asked how things were tasting, I commented on the temperature of the food but said that we would still eat it because we were so hungry. She apologized, but at no time did the manager return to see how things were going or address our ongoing issues. Ravenous, we ate our food in 15 minutes and waited for our waitress to return. She asked us if we'd like dessert and we all said no. She said that ice cream was complimentary, but at this point we were so upset we just wanted to get out of there. At 10:00pm our bill was paid and we left completely disgusted with the service. Although the gesture from the manager was nice, it did not change the experience we had. My brother's birthday dinner was completely ruined! My family and I dine out quite a bit, and this was by far the worst experience we have ever had. I understand that restaurants are going to have bad days, but this was unacceptable, especially for such a high profile location like the Mall of America. Needless to say, we will not be visiting this Benihana's location again, and we suggest you never do either.

Didn't even get to eat... We arrived and asked what the wait was for hibachi and the hostess told us 15-20 min. Ok that's doable. So we waited. 20 min goes by and another couple goes up and asks what the wait was, and again it was 15-20 min. That seemed odd but maybe they would be at a different table and we were going up sooner? Nope. Another 20 min goes by and a group goes up and asks what that wait is. Guess what it was? 15-20 min. Now we've been here waiting almost 45 min and no one has been brought in and since I didn't want to wait an hour for what was supposed to be 15 min, we left. I don't know of they're understaffed or if the staff is just incompetent but I thought it was really rude to lie about the wait time like that...I won't be going back.

This place just opened a few weeks ago at the MOA. I'm an Asian food enthusiast, so my dad and I thought we'd give it a try. You walk in and the host asks whether you want to sit at the hibachi or not. We decided just to sit at a normal table. We were sitting "outside" for lack of a better word, which basically means outside the restaurant, so we could see the mall. My dad ordered the Hibachi Chicken lunch entree, I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp lunch entree. Your meal comes with fried rice, vegetables, and a salad. The salads comes out first. They also gave us 2 different sauces, a "shrimp sauce" and some other brown sauce. I wasn't a big fan of the brown sauce, but the shrimp sauce was phenomenal. It was SOOOOOOO good! It kinda goes well with your salad. :) My dad didn't really like his salad, but I thought it was okay. I ended up eating his salad along with mine. Then the chicken and shrimp meal comes. They were both pretty good. The rice was pretty good too. Again, shrimp sauce goes well with the meal. :) I'd come back here again.

I don't think I will be clamoring to go back to Benihanas MOA anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, the server was nice enough, but I left feeling meh about my dining experience here. Literally the second we sat down and opened our menus, our server comes and asks if we are ready to order. I ask for another minute to at least look at the menu. She takes her time coming back. Fine. I did ask for a minute. My food comes out first. She says my husband's dish should be out in a minute. 10 minutes later... I thought it was strange that our dishes didn't come out at the same time or at least one right after the other. I ordered the Hibachi Scallops. It was ok. Our bill comes and it's wrong. No biggie, easy fix but it just compounded on top of all the other things I'm not impressed with. So yeah... don't think I will be going back to this location any time soon. This will teach me for cheating on Masu.

HORRIBLE... Service was the worst I've had in 25 years. I usually don't write reviews but I just had to in this case. Ate in bar area, or tried to eat in bar area.... Restaurant was not busy, 3 tables total in bar area. Absolutely horrible.

This is absolutely, without a doubt the worst benihannas I have ever seen. Worst hibachi in the history of hibachi... has tons of dirt under his fingernails, sneezed a few times, and also dropped his pokey things, three times, during his little show at the beginning. I obviously shouldn't have expected much being at the trashiest mall in America... not to mention I didn't have a single mushroom in my "soup". Go to Cincinnati- it's much better. I'M OUT!

Tried to eat here just now. They said 20 minute wait for the dining room not hibachi even though the dining room looked empty. That's fine. After 45 minute wait I finally ask when we would sit. The hostess apologize, we were never put on the list and try would seat us immediately. We are seated and then continue to sit and wait another 10 minutes with no wait staff even offering a hello or a drink. We ended up just walking out. Will NEVER return. I'd give no stars if I could. Just horrible.

This place was packed the few times I walked by. Finally, we had the time and were seated in the lounge area. Teppanyaki area was a 30 minute wait. Ordered two sushi rolls and then our meals. It took a while, which we already figured, but thanks to Ling our server it didn't seem that bad. She constantly informed us of the progress. I found the service friendly and the food very tasty. We particularly like the Cherry Shrimp Rolls. They have a kick to them. You may not need the wasabi. For an entrée I tried the Splash N Meadow, Steak and Shrimp, would have liked a few more shrimp but then when doesn't one. Excellent flavor and based on how busy it was I was surprised how hot, temperature, the meal was. If your busy, and you don't have the time, head another 500 feet to the south to Little Tokyo for your Asian craving. Benihana is not a buffet. It's freshly made Sushi and Hibachi and it tastes like it. I will try again when I have the time.

Very disappointed in my first and last visit to this place. Greg the manager there is a racist jerk, can't believe how rude he was. I'm amazed he has that position with this restaurant. This business won't last open very long with someone like him running it.

Horrible experience! Seaweed salad has a mud smell, fish not fresh, soup super salty and comes in half bowl size, and very expensive. $3 for just one piece of salmon, waited 30+ minutes for the food after seated. As an authentic Asian, I will never come again and hope it breaks down for the ugly existence it is

Casy and Latira were awesome great experience at Benihana. Didn't know what I was expecting walking in here. Decided to sit at the beautifully decorated bar top. Grabbed a goose island draft and some beef sashimi. Service was excellent. Casy treated me like a neighbor or a close brother. Overall this Benihana was nothing short of legen-wait for it cuz service atmosphere and experience makes me want to unload after a long tough day and it's totally worth the #habichilife-dary.

Arrived at 5:30, was greeted and asked how many in my party. Was given a buzzer and was told it would be a couple of minutes. Cool, it's empty but ok. The couple next to me was told they could go to the bar if they want and have drinks or apps, I wasn't given that option. Sat at bar and ordered drinks, that same couple that was at hostess stand (much older) sat next to me and was told the two bartenders names, I wasn't offered that information. Buzzer went off, hostess came and said that was an accident. Buzzer went off again 5 minutes later, oh, they're ready now. Go to hostess stand, they are trying to seat me with a few other people for a hibachi table. Nope, I didn't ask for that (keep in mind there are many, many tables open to sit at), so I now had to ask myself. Was seated out on the mall patio, was not given an option or asked if it was alright. Ling took my order, brought out soup and salad. She realized I didn't have utensils so she grabbed a fork quick and did a stretch hand off to me as she was talking to the other table about their horrible experience, I'm sure. Didn't finish the salad. I left the fork she long armed me earlier in the bowl. When she came to clear the soup and salad she asked if I want to keep my fork. Now I'm at a buffet instead of a restaurant, great. Received my Rocky's Choice, minus any of the sauces that I actually asked for extra of, neat. After she was reminded she brought out the sauce, apologized and said "I bring you two" as in to make up for none? Now many of us Benihana veterans can agree that we pour our shrimp sauce delicately over everything on the plate with a majority of it smothering the fried rice. Well I went to do that, and at this specific location it was the same consistency as turning over a DQ Blizzard and watching with amazement that it doesn't fall out. So I used my handy dandy buffet fork and scooped out the shrimp sauce and added it to my fake hibachi meal. Now, if my meal was even slightly warm prior to adding my shrimp blizzard, this very chilled substance quickly put an ending to that. Might as well just call it leftovers. Moving on...I was so lucky that I didn't pay for this meal since I had a born day coupon, also to add to my excitement I was offered ice cream "fo yo birtday" yea, because we all know you get ice cream with all teppanyaki meals. Oh, was there ice crystals in that chocolate ice cream?? Nope, just freezer burn. Good luck Mall of America Benihana's...way to scare the tourists away from the restaurants and into the food court. Sushi was cool so 1/5

We Had an 8oclock reservation, wasn't seated until 845-9pm, first issue. Their chef are too playful with the food beyond what I'm used to at Benihanas. The chef table in front of mine kept throwing shrimp tails back at our table and got it in one of the guest hair. And our chef Carlos wasn't any better. We made it known that we do not eat shrimp and to keep it separate from our food, so Carlos taunted my husband with shrimp and put it in his face and offered it to him. He cooked all the shrimp and lobster on our side of the table so we were very uncomfortable with the smoke of the food in our faces and nostrils. My husband is allergic to seafood and he started getting a slight reaction in his throat. The Chef Carlos kept slapping the raw meat with his spatula as if he were giving it a spanking and it just was very unprofessional and the worst experience I've ever had. Their camera printer didn't work so we couldnt get a picture, and there was no chocolate ice cream left in stock...I was very disappointed! And it was my husbands birthday

First off, we didn't stay to eat. The hostess was rude and after waiting 20 minutes for "a table or chef's table, whatever was available first" we were place at a grill with 6 other people. We earlier told the hostess we were getting sushi and yet we were seated at a grill. We were then told by the waitress at the grill that the fryers were not working so tempura would be an example of something not available (this would have been great to know before the 20 minute wait). We then got up from the grill and I explained that there was a misunderstanding and we'd like a table or a place by the sushi chef. She said we'd have to wait because there were others before us and I explained that we had just waited 20 minutes and couldn't we be seated next. She said, "No because you said you wanted a seat at the chef's table and you'll have to wait behind the others to be seated." I told her "Nevermind, we'll just go elsewhere." There are just too many other options at MOA to put up with this kind of rudeness. If that's how the hostess acts and they are supposed to be welcoming and helpful, I worry how the wait staff would act. We ended up across the hallway at CRAVE and were treated like they appreciated our business and the service and food was awesome!

We dined here twice during a recent trip to Minnesota. The Chefs were amazing and the food was great. We had dinner here once and lunch once. The lunch is about half the price for the same meal, so I recommend visiting during lunch time.

Food was average. I would rather drive to Golden Valley Benihana than the MOA again. The experience was very commercialized. The server rushed us to order, our chef was ok he had some allergic reaction and someone else finished cooking. At the end server then gave us all of our checks without offering the ice cream and tea which is included in the meal. We used a gift card to for most of the bill, we experienced some issues with our check card (thanks target) the manager offered to call the police if we didn't pay instead of helping us figure out a solution to the situation which we were asking to do. After realizing our amount owed was actually only $25 she then became nice and offered solutions to our predicament. Not so impressed.

I went by myself and sat at the bar area. Service was good. Just got miso soup, Benihana salad, and the spicy tuna Tartar. The spicy tuna tartar was very tasty. It was spicier than most spicy tuna, which was a plus. The lady next to me got the chicken & shrimp hibachi dinner and it looked great.
