I am really a sucker for Baker's Square, and this location didn't disappoint. I had just arrived in Minnesota from New York and my Mom suggested breakfast. Baker's Square was the first place we saw that was open at 8:00am, so we stopped. It was already busy with people enjoying their huge platters of food. My Mom and I were greeted immediately and sat in a booth. The employees here were so friendly (I LOVE Minnesota). Our server was quiet but cordial and extremely efficient. I think he was waiting on about 10 tables at once. How he kept all of those pancakes and eggs straight, I'll never know. My Mom and I decided on the "pick three" breakfast special for $6.99. Between the two of us, we shared 6 different things! The food was delivered quickly and the coffee was flowing and really strong. I wish this was the way I always started my day after a 6am flight. We took a slice of banana cream pie for later, since it was only 9:00 in the morning at that point. We ended up eating it in the car before we even got home.

We had lunch here on a Wednesday and got FREE pie with each meal. The sandwiches were great and so was the coleslaw. The grandsons even ate all their kids meals.

I am a sucker for pies...my children knows this and they can practically bribe me with it. Heck, there was a time I would marry a girl if she can bake me a decent pecan pie... Occasionally, I dream that I was some how held captive in a pie bakery by an insane baker that is similar Kathy Bates in Misery...Yes, I am that disturbed...Lets just move on before Yelp turn me in the cops... This Baker Square in Bloomington is a tough review for me because there are limited pie bakeries in the Twin Cities. It is not like I have lot to choose from here...When I am desperate for this, I am not exactly rational or sane(don't ask). Furthermore, I don't know a decent place diner that has good pies. Whether you get great food and horrible pies or the other way around. In this case, the pies are good here, especially the coconut and pecan pie. In short, I don't go here to eat a sandwich and/or even thought about anything on the menu. I go here strictly for pies and stuff my 'pie' hole every chance I get. If you order the regular food, well don't hold that against me. The rating above is strictly for the pies. One more thing, when you order the Pecan pie - ask them to heat it up and make it a Ale mode...You can thank me later. Last thing, one of my kids ordered the cheesecake here...I still debating this kid is legally mine...I tried to convinced my little girl that you shouldn't order a cheesecake @ a pie bakery. Sure enough, I was horrified that she ordered it and how bad it was. Don't do it. This equivalent to ordering a burger @ a mexican restaurant. Just don't do it.

I ate lunch here on Saturday 6/23/12. I noticed before even walking in that it had gotten new signage and looked pretty neat. Walking in, it looked pretty great - kinda mod. The menu had a lot of new items on it as well. I shouldn't say new though. The last time I was at a Baker's Square was probably five years ago. So it was new to me. But anyways, the menu looked great and I had a hard time deciding what to eat. I opted for the 3 for $9.99 special and got an Asian salad, tomato basil soup, and bbq pork sliders. It arrived and looked absolutely delicious. I started with the salad and it was good. Maybe a little bit too much dressing, but it was tasty. Next I tried the soup and wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping it was really basily and not too tomatoey. The first bite was pretty tomatoey, but the more I ate, the more I fell in love. It had a hint of basil, but could have used a little more. Lastly I was ready to try my sliders. I bit in and it was literally like biting into a beef jerky sandwich. The meat was so incredibly though that I just about broke a tooth on it. But I tried to get past that bite in hopes that the center of the sandwich was less tough. It really wasn't. I battled the jerky all the way until my last juicy bite. It was also a very sloppy sandwich. I would NOT recommend those sliders to anyone ever. I found out later that the meat is deep fried. Sounds amazing, but it was not. I then decided to get a slice of pie to take home and eat later. with the 3 for $9.99 special, you can get a slice of pie add-on for just $1.99. There were so many different flavors to choose from and they all looked so great. I got a piece of caramel pecan silk supreme pie and ate it a few hours later. It was AMAZING!!! The pie definitely makes up for the the nasty sandwich. But all in all, there are a lot of options and I'd eat there again because everything was yummy except that sandwich.

Baker's Square deserves more Yelps. Once upon a time, there were a lot of these bad boys all over the metro. Now they are a dying breed. Like true cowboys of the restaurant industry. And just like a cowboy, it's easy to get roped in. Ha - see what I did there? I feel honor-bound to say that the pie at Baker's Square is second to none for the price. I feel like you should already know this though. But seriously. Amazing pie. We don't live too far from this joint and we are big fans. It's been a few months since we've had a chance to dine there and they have recently gotten a nice re-vamp. Gone are the days of the old school Baker's Square feel... you know the one I'm talking about - if you're under 60 years of age, you didn't exactly feel like the target demographic. They've trendied it up (I made that word up). It's got a cooler, hipper vibe. A couple of high-mounted TV's, too. I kicked my 2 year old's butt in Wheel of Fortune while we waited for our food. Speaking of waiting for food, I don't know if they have a team of wizards back in their kitchen, but you barely tell your server what you want when *POOF* it's magically delivered almost immediately. The food is never a let down. And like their chief competition Perkins, they serve breakfast all day. The food's better than Perkins though. We consistently have friendly, attentive service and I think it's worth mentioning that a lot of the servers are kids (I mean 20 or younger) so getting good service from that age group is really an accomplishment! I urge you all to go into Baker's Square because, selfishly, I don't want to see them all disappear. Oh and I can't forget - FREE PIE ON WEDNESDAYS. Free pie, people. On Wednesdays. FREE PIE.
