Yum!! I really wish they had longer hours. I would rather have Chinese for lunch than dinner since their portions are so large. Update:: Still wish they were open more. My husband refuses to go back now because he drove there too many times & they were closed & the closure wasn't current with anything we read for their hours. They just post a hand written sign & leave.

The food is plentiful and very tasty! Yes, it is a family affair and it is lacking for nice ambiance, but when I am hungry, that comes second place. This is the best General Tso's that I have had this side of the ocean! They make it themselves with their family recipe, and while the calorie count may be high, it is fabulous! My Favorites are: General Tso's Singapore Chow Mie Fun Roast Pork Lo Mein Hot & Spice Chicken and their Cream Cheese Won Tons!

Best Chinese in town. Skip the buffet joint and bank on your buck here. They don't take cards of any sort though--not a smart idea, obviously.

The best general Tso in the midwest. Hole in the wall chinese and they know what they are doing. Way better than super buffet. Monster portions for cheap. 7 dollar meals that could fill me up for three meals.

I was originally headed to the restauarant next door that closed shortly before I arrived. I asked someone going out with take-out, and she said it was good, and I had no other options nearby. An adorable little girl took my order, must of been the daughter to the parents cooking just behind the counter. She told me the General Tso chicken is a popular dish, so I got that, rice came with it, and I also had an egg roll. More food than I could eat, even though I tip the scales at over 490 lbs. The chicken had a lot of batter, not strictly the prime pieces, but nothing that I had to quietly discard in my napkin. I sat facing the sidewalk, and the big picture window was just terribly unclean, fingerprints and who know what grossness. The floor was really dirty, sandy, and unclean. Some easy simple cleaning things would do so much, it's not just out there that's dirty.

I've been a regular for years. I have my favorite dishes, Teriyaki Chicken, Lo Mein, General Tso, Cashew Chicken, Beef and Broccoli... I haven't tried everything but what I have is delicious and plentiful and for the price you pay, a real bargain, breakfast for tomorrow. Yes the windows could be washed. Yes the tables could be kept up. Sure there's sand on the floor from people tracking in and the decor is outdated. WHO CARES?! Don't like the decor? Get your food to go! This is a good business run by good people where family matters. Good food, Good people, Good price. I've been going there since 2006, I love it!

Best Chinese food anywhere. New China Spoiled me with their flavorful dishes. I have not found another Chinese place that even compares to what you get here. The restaurant itself is nothing to look at: big window, faded sign and 12 tables in the place but has the greatest food. They have an open kitchen so you can watch the food being prepared. Their portions are large and filled with flavor. The wait staff are the owners and their extended family. If you are going to stop anywhere in Bemidji for lunch - New China is the place to go.

I was born and raised in New York so you could say I am probably as close to an expert as it gets here in Bemidji. The first place I tried was Super Buffet and it was absolutely sub-standard chinese food. Aka GROSS! New China is the closest re-creation of the New York style take-out I have had in Minnesota. I have eaten there five times in the past two months, getting something different each time, and it has always served very fresh and very delicious authentic takeout. They'd get five stars if their dumplings, my favorite chinese dish, were anything more than frozen pot stickers. FYI, Which are not at all dumplings (not even close).

I am astonished that New China received 5 stars not once, but twice! We ordered soups and a variety of traditional Chinese restaurant dishes, each inedible. The hot and sour soup tasted old, the other dishes were either too sweet, too salty, or totally lacking in flavor. Additionally, the food is expensive so I experienced some personal financial guilt as I threw our New China takeout away and went to bed hungry that evening.

the sign is faded, the interior is simple and plain, but if sustenance is what you're looking for, you've found the place. the portions are massive in comparison to what you pay. the quality is comparable to a typical "pick-up and go" chinese fare you would find in nyc. if you're looking to raise your blood pressure, just add some soy sauce to the general tsao's chicken combination and you're well on your way to the hospital.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
