China One, is located in the old Gault Village Shopping Center, at I-94 and Grove Road on the southeast side of Ypsilanti. Construction on this strip mall started around 1961, and for many years had a dirt parking lot. It wasn't until 1968, when W.T. Grant's Department Store decided to expand and build a whole new addition on the far west end that the parking lot was finally paved. W.T. Grant's was chain of mass-merchandise stores that could be found all over the United States, especially on the East Coast. The stores were generally of the variety format located in downtown areas. However, the inability to compete with larger chain stores like J.C Penny and Sears, coupled with incompetent managerial practices and personnel, spelled the doom of this merchandising giant, which boasted that it had over 1,200 stores in the early 1970s. In 1976, W.T. Grants went bankrupt and most of the stores were liquidated to payoff creditors. In 1980, K-Mart decided to move into the old Grant's store at Gault Village, bringing back some life to the mall. The location that China One occupies, was one of the first Little Ceasars Pizza franchises as the company owned by Michael Ilitch, expanded through the Metro Detroit area in the 1960s and 1970s. They were always noted for their "Little Caesar's Pizza Treat" slogan, until it was replaced by "Pizza-Pizza" in 1979. China One is noted more as a "take-out" place than a sit-down restaurant. The cooks and owners are from Fujian Province in China, but they tend to lean more into Cantonese and Schezuan style cooking. While this is not the best Chinese food I have ever eaten, it is more than passable. Moreover, they tend to be very generous when it comes the size of their portions especially during dinnertime. If you're looking for inexpensive but good Chinese food, then this is the place to visit. I have eaten here many times and have never found any problems whatsoever, with the exception of the Men's restroom, which would stand a thorough cleaning the last time I was inside.

Had a rather elegant meal with a good friend, shared laughs and good times the food was freshly prepared and delicious. The service was fast and accurate. However the restaurant it self was old, dirty and looked like it hadn't ever been cleaned. The staff were inconsiderate of the guest by yelling at one another in the kitchen. I recommend this restaurant for take out, and take out only.

If i could give this place NEGATIVE stars, I sure would. The owner is a jerk who doesn't care about his customers OR his food. The food there is sub-par but was decent enough for us to eat sometimes UNTIL I FOUND A HAIR IN OUR GENERAL CHICKEN. we called the owner to let him know, not even to get a replacement because we would NEVER eat their again... and he YELLS AT US. The owner of this place deserves the utmost dishonor, to him and to his whole family. Enjoy your spider filled restaurant with your hairy chicken, heres to watching you go out of business! cheers.

This meal started out wonderfully! The vegetable egg role was great! Crispy but not too greasy, variety of vegetables. Then I got to my main dish....Almond Boneless Chicken...Not so good. There was plenty of good chicken but that is about all that was good. Typically, Almond chicken is served over ice berg lettuce, It really enhances that flavor of the sauce. This chicken came served over mixed vegetables that weren't fresh and just didn't taste good. The sauce had way too much soy sauce and beef flavor, There were no Almonds or almond flavor. Very disappointed:(

As it comes to dumplings steam/fried or even in the wonton soup this place is the best!!! they make them from scratch and no one never had anything close to it anywhere else. For entries the chicken or beef lo mein is also hard to get past. Pretty much everything is good just don't eat there this is a TAKE OUT ONLY due to its location plus its not very clean yet alone the bathrooms are disgusting and coming from me going to a hole in the wall with these issues the menu obviously speaks for itself. I have to say this is a must for anyone living in Ypsilanti BEST IN TOWN~

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
