Friendly staff and regulars at this cute little place. I stopped in for lunch on a business trip. I went with the Swine Burger (stuffed with jalapeños and chili!) with coleslaw and fries. Nice 12 oz. Bud light for $1.75 ;) Free wifi was easy to connect to. Would come back often!

One of our regular locals. One of the better burgers in town. Perfectly sized (about a 1/3 pound rather than those 1/2 lb monstrosities), perfectly priced. The rest of the menu is middle of the pack. Average service (nothing to rave about, nothing to complain about). People rave about the SwineBurger. It is good, but really messy... I usually stick to a straight up cheeseburger. The wife and daughter go with the mushroom Swiss. I've got to dock a few points for the hassle of being cash only, but also giving bonus points for the excellent fish fry on Fridays (go with the cod and perch) and the surreal entertainment experience that is karaoke night (the best free floor show around). Also, ask for the seasoning salt for your fries.

Excellent dive bar!!! I remember going here in the old days after a day of boating on the river and Lake Erie.. Last week, after visiting someone at Wyandotte Hospital, we came upon the old Speedboat!! I was so excited!! After all, I hadn't been here in about 30 years! It was actually fancier than I remember, if you can imagine that ;-) ...somewhere in the recent past, it had met a quaint remodel...However they may have forgotten about the ladies room... I ordered fish and chips and by bf had the house salad with tuna. Our waitress was down to earth friendly and so on top of everything. My water glass was never below half empty and she checked on us without being annoying.. My fish came with more fries than two people could scarf down.. The tartar sauce is a little different, I didn't taste any relish, only dill.. It was mild. The fish was plump and flavorful, but not fishy-fishy. The menu is actually quite extensive.. but I will admit...I saw them opening a Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville frozen box of something for another patron.. No biggie, like I said, it's a dive bar! I loved the older polish folks hanging out and insulting each other, it was quite entertaining! I can't wait for my next visit downriver!! Speedboat patty melt, here I come!!!

An interesting place to spend a Saturday night. I went there with friends for their karaoke night and was surprised at how good some of the people who got up to sing were. Very entertaining. A very diverse crowd. I saw bikers in there and people in suit and ties. No problems though. Everyone was having a good time. I had the famous Swineburger which has jalapenos, pepper jack cheese and chili on top. Very tasty. They are known for their chili but it tasted so-so to me. Typical bar food, but they do have gravy fries. That is poutine without the cheese. I hear they have a good fish fry on Fridays but have yet to go for that.

Out of Labatt and Jameson, no compensation for such ineptitude. The waitress new I was having a terrible day and did absolutely nothing to right this situation. I used to be in the industry so I know how things should work. She charged me for the French fries even after this, typical bar food, last call at 9:17pm...nogguna comebacka.

Unbelievable burger and fries. Too bad I'm working, they have 12 oz drafts for 50 cents? What? Awesome.... Going to have to make a trip back here in the summer or after a baseball game. Staff was great, food was awesome.

After Lions, Tigers and Beers burned down (RIP LTB) my parents starting coming to Speed Boat for their Friday dinners. Traditions evolve over time, I guess. Whenever I'm in town I go with them for lunch or dinner, because it is the perfect dive. Cheap food, cheap drinks, some of Downriver's finest customers and easy parking. I always get a cheeseburger, medium, cheese fries and a beer or two. After living in Chicago and New York the prices are laughably cheap. I almost want to get two burgers just because they're so cheap and tasty. The wait staff is hit or miss, as it seems there is a bit of turnover. Last time the waitress was nice enough, but screwed up my order - I asked for a Labatt Blue and she gave me a Miller Lite. I ordered a side of cheese fries and she gave me fries on my plate and I had to ask for the cheese. Of course she charged me for a Labatt Blue and the full order of cheese fries, but I didn't say anything. It was the day after Christmas and I was feeling the holiday love.

They recently got new owners and new staff. We used to go there every Thursday for there specials. Our family used to eat there on Thursday around 740pm or so to catch there 2 for 12 dollar special that ends at 8pm, but now they have this 15 minute thing that won't let us have the special anymore even when it's before 8pm. We both get off work at 7pm and rush there for the special if your wondering why we can't get there earlier. We also noticed the new staff that are totally clueless and don't care. They used to have the best staff ever who would know us by name and have a beer ready for you. Not no more. It's way down hill and pointless to even go there. Bring back the old owners and old staff!

Love this place !! Staff was warm and welcoming as soon as I walked in. Great conversation and strong drinks from the bartender. My wife had the perch and I had the walleye and both were amazing . Would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for good drinks and great food .

Tried Speedboat for the first time under the previous owners and it was ok, but I had no desire to return. When I heard they had new owners I tried it again and was I ever impressed by the changes. Food quality has increased , but the prices remain as cheap as ever. The service is quick and the waitresses that I have had are friendly. The boneless chicken wings appetizer is perfectly spicy and my burger is perfectly prepared each time (no matter which burger I order). The great prices, good food, and relaxed atmosphere make this my standby restaurant when I don't want to cook!

Been here probably 6 times so far and will be back. Like others have said its a great dive bar. Rarely do I get service this good. The food is really good especially for the price. They got a lot of decent specials too. I'm surprised it took me so long to check this place out but definitely going to be one on my regular rotation.

This is a 5 star dive bar. I decided to lay low for my bachelorette party instead of doing the whole club thing. When it came to picking a bar, I wanted one that had three things: awesome atmosphere/crowd, cheap drinks and karaoke. Speed Boat delivered on all three! I don't really know what made me do it, but I called Speed Boat to make reservations for 10. Who makes reservations at a dive bar? Apparently me. And it's a good thing I did. Our group began to trickle in around 7:30. They had some great drink specials that we all took advantage of, such as $3 mixed drinks in 16 oz. glasses. Schwing, let the fun begin! Plenty of us ordered food, which came out in a timely manner. I asked for my burger medium, but it was cooked to well. Even so, it was very delicious. They serve shoestring fries, which are my absolute favorite! As bags full of penis-shaped goodies started pouring in, so did Speed Boat's regular patrons. Each of them scanned the bar, looking for a place to sit and realized there weren't any open tables. They kept eying our section adorned with "Reserved" tags... Man, I'm so glad I called and made a reservation! The karaoke began around 9 p.m. It's obvious this is a huge draw to Speed Boat, hence the large turnout. There wasn't an empty seat in the whole place. This isn't your run-of-the-mill karaoke joint, either. These are middle-aged dive bar regulars who come here to show off their talent. I was sincerely impressed by some of the people who got up to sing! There was no douche-baggery to be found... that is, until my table started singing... Some of my favorites we sang were "I Touch Myself", "Shook Me All Night Long", "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Sweet Caroline" and "Single Ladies". We rocked it! My throat still hurts from singing so loud. The waitress did an adequate job of taking care of our table, even after the entire party of 11 was there. Shots and drinks came out a little slower as everyone showed up, but there was only one bartender so I'm not really complaining about our server. She was really friendly, which is always welcomed. Somehow during the night I got a lapdance by a 42-year-old woman, who just kept telling me how young and sweet I was. Then I received a serenade by a drunk gentleman wearing neon green light-up glasses. And at some point, I sat on some guy's lap for a photo op. I somehow feel like none of this would have happened had I chose a different bar! By the end of the night, I was so tipsy I couldn't walk in a straight line. Bachelorette Party Mission: Complete. I'd like to thank Speed Boat for their awesome service, great food, reasonable prices and entertaining karaoke.

Speed Boat has been around for decades. When I was a kid, I remember them putting a Santa Claus in the boat that's on the roof at Christmas time. I really thought that was neat and I would always say, "When I turn 21, I'm going to the Speed Boat." Well, fast forward many years later and that's exactly what I did. Had my first legal drink at Speed Boat Bar & Grill on 8/11/2004 -- with my mom and grandma! We went there for lunch and that's when I first discovered that Speed Boat is actually a pretty cool dive bar. Since then, they have changed ownership and actually made a lot of improvements to the bar, including expanding the menu, adding a nice outdoor patio, and offering karaoke every Friday & Saturday night. Their drink specials are AWESOME! $3 for most of their signature cocktails, which all happen to have cool names. I specifically remember The Detroit River, though I believe the one I like most is the Hawaiian Breeze. The food is good. Their appetizer sampler is huge and can easily be shared with 4-6 people. It was only $12, which seemed very reasonable considering how much food they give you. Their burgers are great and I hear their fish is amazing, though I haven't tried that yet. Overall, if you're looking for a fun hole-in-the-wall kind of bar, this is a great choice. The decor is definitely nothing special, but the atmosphere is fun and it's usually very busy on the weekends. Karaoke seems to be very popular. If that's not your thing, I'd suggest going on a weeknight because it is fairly loud on the weekend. Definitely worth checking out though.

You just can't go wrong. I went with 2 friends here last week for lunch. We each had 3 beers, and burgers and fries. The total bill was under $30. F'real. They offer $1 beers regularly, and their sandwiches are around $4/$5. In fact, the most expensive thing on the menu was $8. What a trip! And to make it better, the food is decent quality too. It's not anything crazy special, but its good hole-in-the-wall style food. The bar is tiny, very much divey, but worth a trip for sure. Friday they offer a big variety of fresh fish, and I hope to get back soon, pretty sure it'll be amazing.
