I have been going to the Village Place for over 20 years, but recently, it has become the last resort when nothing else is open. The prices are very high & the quality/quantity leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered a garden salad the other day & received a plate of warm, limp lettuce that had obviously been sitting out in a bin for a while. Service is always friendly & the setting is nice, but it's rare that I leave there very satisfied.

The Village Place seems like a good place to have breakfast. Although, even at 5:40am, there was a table full of loud obnoxious dude-bros. I suspect that for about 2.5 hours after the bars close, this 24hr diner would be overrun with late teen / early 20s douche-bags. On the plus side, the standard breakfast fare is pretty good. The portions are generous. And, the prices are reasonable. The view of Crescent Lake, which abuts the parking lot, doesn't hurt either.

My husband and I love this place. It is where we met on our first date and we continue to frequent here on the 13th of every month as a funny little reminder of how we met. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive and like all places, some are better than others, but we have never had a bad experience. They have the delicious yummy homemade ranch that I could eat on everything and you can't buy in a store. Its open 24 hours and is great anytime of the day (we have been at all hours). They have all you can eat fish and chips on fridays and all you can eat spaghetti on wednesdays! They have a variety of daily specials too. The lasagna is one of my favorite and I wish they would put it on the menu!

I'm torn about this place. On the one hand, the food is obviously not prepared with much care or attention to ingredients (I share a previous reviewer's observation that omelets usually come with congealed clumps of cheap cheese). The pancake texture tends to be a bit foamy and the fruit is usually bland or canned. However, this place is an institution. I've been going here since I was a little kid and although I now live in another state, a trip home is not complete without a visit to the Village Place. I've had more conversations with friends and family at this place than I can count, crayon drawings with nieces and late night high school ice cream sundaes. Waterford lacks a visible "downtown" but the Village Place might be it. You'll be able to get a sense of the community from here. Yes, the food is sub par, but you'll somehow leave feeling satisfied and happy.

I'm a semi-regular at this particular Village Place and I like it here. The wait staff is very friendly, after a few visits they even recognize you. The food is great, the menu has a lot of variety and my friends and I have trouble deciding what to get sometime. Which, hey, if that's my only problem with the place, then they must be doing something right. It's not usually crowded except for nights on the weekends when the bar crowd comes in. Then it can get a little obnoxious. The servers are great about making sure your order is exactly how you wanted it and they don't have problems fixing it if they did make a mistake or if you forgot to ask for something off of it. They are open 24 hours and hey, not too much around the area is, so it's a good place to go if you're up late and hungry. The prices are reasonable as well, you get a lot of food for your money and the portions are fantastic.

This place drives me nuts. I've been going to the Village Place(s) for many years but I have to call it quits and go somewhere else. Yes, it has a huge menu. Yes, you can get breakfast any time of the day. Yes, it's now non-smoking. The chicken noodle soup is good. You can't go wrong with most breakfast items and the sandwiches are decent. French fries 8 out of 10 times are cooked perfectly. However, if you order an omelet with cheese in it, you simply get a wad of unmelted, processed shredded cheese tucked between the folds of the eggs. Ask for it to be melted and they pop your eggs in the microwave. Further, most omelets come back overcooked and brown. ***Dear restaurant owners, if your eggs come off the grill brown instead of yellow, your grill is too hot for eggs or your cooks are too slow to work at that temperature.*** For as much breakfast as this place serves, you would think they would be pros--they're not. Also, if your food arrives cold and you send it back, they just pop it in the microwave. ***Dear restaurant owners, if you put food like eggs and meat in the microwave (especially a commercial microwave) it noticeably changes the texture of the food.*** I really hate having to send food back. I do like the watery ranch dressing here and wished more places had a more viscous dressing. Clam strip dinner is as good as you're going to get. It's frozen but so is everywhere else. The ice tea, soft beverages and coffee flowith over and I have no guff with the service other than they could practice the art of checking the order at the window for accuracy a little better before plating the table. The BLT and Club Sandwich have been consistent through the years. They could also spend a little more time keeping the dining room, floors, bathrooms a little cleaner as well as wiping the baby high chairs more regularly. Cleanliness is indeed next to godliness. Look for their coupons because the prices have really gone up. Personally, I would scale back the menu by 50% and upgrade the food quality at this price point.

The food in this location is much better than at the one in Orchard lake. I didn't expect much, based on my experiences at the Village Place that's closer to my home. However, my omelette was nice and moist, done just right. My kids' meals were also very good. Perhaps they should rotate the chefs between the two locations.

Lousy Lunch I went there for lunch with a co-worker at the recommendation of another co-worker. I ordered the meatloaf dinner, with a double vegetable instead of the potatoes. The tossed salad was a plate full of iceberg lettuce with one cherry tomato on top. Really? You call that a salad? It was fresh, but that was all you could say about it. The meatloaf was burned so badly all the way around, that I could barely cut through it. They drowned it in brown gravy - I am guessing that was to mask the charred exterior. The vegetable was canned green beans - again, really? Is that the best you can do? They were tasteless and mushy. I ate the center of the meatloaf and left the charred crust on the plate. It also was mushy and bland. I should have sent it back as soon as I got it. That was my mistake. I could see the cooks in the kitchen watching our table after the waitress brought the food out. Everytime I'd look up I'd see them watching us and then look away suddenly when I made eye contact. They knew the food was bad, but sent it out anyway. The waitress should not have served the food - they also bear responsibility to make sure the food they are serving is good. She never stopped by our table again to refill drinks or check and see if we needed anything. So, I told the cashier when I paid for my food that the meatloaf was so burned it was inedible and should not be served to any more customers. She apologized, but I'm curious if anyone else was served that awful mess. My co-worker ordered an omelet - she said it was ok, but nothing to write home about. We won't be back.

The food is mediocre to good and the coffee has an octane rating. The salads are wilted. The service is hit or miss. The decor has all the character of a laundromat. But the Village Place is open 24 hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert - anytime, and cheap. It's also a local institution. You'll always meet someone here. The food is consistent, and good, as long as you stick to the more standard diner fare on the rather large menu. It's not flashy, and you shouldn't come in with high expectations. But the Village Place is always open, on almost every day of the year, consistently delivering decent nourishment in the wee hours of the morning. And that's enough to give it four stars.

I can't help it... I love eating breakfast at all times of the day. If you love bountiful breakfasts... like two eggs over easy, hash browns crispy, wheat toast, sausage links, a large orange juice... then the Village is your place. Today, the bacon was the best I've ever had! The staff is always friendly. I've been coming here for years and never had a bad experience.

Great local family diner. Great prices, great food, good staff. I suggest the Chicken Pasty!! Comes with fries, veg and more!! A great place to take the family without going broke or settling for poor quality.

We went for Brunch last Saturday. After the Hostess seated us and brought drinks I realized I forgot to tell her I only like a little ice in my tea. Without saying a word she abruptly grabbed the large glass of iced tea and THREW it out into a plastic tub. She brought another without ice. It seemed like an eternity after we ordered before our food was brought out to us. The vegetable chicken salad I ordered had BACON and EGG on it. The waitress was confused because she told the cook to put broccoli and no egg. She brought another one without bacon but it still had the egg on it which she told me "the cook REFUSED to serve it without egg!" Excuse me? Really, are you kidding me? The grilled chicken on the salad was tough and overdone and gave me indigestion the rest of the day! A sure sign it was bad. There were a few pieces of FROZEN BROCCOLI throughout the salad which were shocking to bite into! There were rotten pieces of sliced mushrooms hidden under the lettuce! It was a disaster. TERRIBLE FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE! We will NOT be returning and would advise others considering this place to go anywhere else but not here. Horrible.

Village Place has always been close to my home and it's always been 24 hours...but I've always been disappointed by both the food and service here. However, Village Place has REALLY improved. Side salads used to be a small portion of browned, wilted, iceberg lettuce. The side salads now have a blend of different kinds of lettuce, and it was fresh and crisp tonight. They always have had the best french dressing around. The BLT tonight was good, and on the breakfast side of things I love the strawberry belgian waffle at Village Place. They have THE BEST strawberry topping I've ever had (also great on the Strawberry Shortcake). Most places the strawberry topping is processed and tastes artificial. The strawberry topping at Village Place appears to be homemade and puts all others to shame! The service has greatly improved here as well. So glad Village Place is finally living up to all of it's potential as it's location and hours are very convenient for me!

This is my go-to place for the 24 hour scene. I've never had a bad experience here yet, with food or service. Though to be fair I will say that later at night there is a limited staff, to be expected, but it sometimes fills with the college crowd so I've seen two poor servers covering the whole place. It's nice to have a "safe" place I know is always open that I can count on for decent food at a great price.

  • Shayna S.

The food goes from good to bad, but the service has been getting worse over the years, and the prices are going up. I only go as a last-resort when I need something close by that's open 24 hours. The breakfast menu is fine, and the cheese nachos are REALLY good (they use Munster cheese--mmmm!). Skip, unless you want something fast that's not as cheap as it should be. You pay for convenience here.

Yelp has the wrong address for the Village Place's review!!!! It should be" Cooley Lake Rd" not Orchard Lake rd!!!! Orchard Lake rd/Pontiac Tr-- is much better !!!

I'm not giving this place 4 stars for the quality of food, but for how great they are to my grandpa. My grandpa comes here a couple times a week and gets all of his meals here. The portions are big enough to take some home. This place has become a good part of his life and a part of the family. Every time I take him to lunch, we'll go here and he always gets a big smile from the staff. They know him by name, bring him a glass of hot water immediately, and treat him like family. There's been times that he'll order something and the waitress will say "you won't like that" and SHE'S RIGHT. They know his taste better than he knows his own. This place makes him happy, and for that I thank you and give you 4-stars.

I really like Village Place. The menu is good but nothing too fancy and they're open 24 hours. The staff is always super friendly and the food is good and inexpensive. Get dessert, everything is made in house and deeeeelicious!

Recently went here for breakfast on a Sunday. The waitress brought me my coffee in a dirty cup so I asked for a new one. She then brought me an even dirtier cup with chips around the rim. I ordered eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns and rye toast. I received eggs over light, the whites were very runny, well done crisp bacon (did not order it this way), the hash browns had a really bad flavor of old grease, I couldn't eat a single bite and the toast had oil on it not butter. Then the waitress rolled her eyes when I told her my eggs were not cooked, she said that that's how over easy is supposed to be. Overall everyone who works here is ignorant and dirty and the entire place has a thick coating of grime.

It's good it's consistent. They changed there menu recently. Chili cheese dog are not up to par. There black bean burger are suspect. The gf had some bad issues with quality. She was in the bathroom most of the night. But the breakfast is great. Always looks the same and decently priced.
