My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting this past weekend. We have read the positive reviews and heard many good things about the restaurant that we felt remiss in not having eaten there before. This is a fine dining establishment and as such you expect to spend more for your food. What surprised me is that the atmosphere is fine elegance but not stuffy and not pretentious. The décor is very nice and worthy of our fine dining experience. I especially liked that even though we were a party of two we were not crammed into a small table. In fact when I looked around there weren't any tables in the restaurant where 2 people would be cramped. The food was awesome and clearly made with the best and freshest ingredients. We started with the Alternativa and Tre Colore salads which were delicious and included the finest balsamic and evoo (extra virgin olive oil). We followed with Panzotti con Porcini e Tartuf. One bite and you understand the difference between this restaurant and others. Eat this dish slowly and savor the incredible complementary tastes which permeate your taste buds. My wife had the Saltimbocca which was amazing. We especially liked the added touch of Quail eggs as part of the dish. I had the Costoletta di Vitello Ninfeta which was one of the finest veal chops I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and included a elegant potato and squash sides. Our waiter was excellent and worked to explain everything, make sure we were happy and comfortable. He was assisted by others that worked in concert to clear plates and refill bread and water. It was just the right mix of service and attentiveness and yet they gave us space and privacy to enjoy our meal and each other. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we were so glad we finally enjoyed a meal there.

Had a remarkably memorable meal here recently to kick off a long vacation weekend before we hit the road to Ludington. Had heard and read plenty of comments on Tre Monti over the years without ever making the trip out. That being said, this place seemingly flies under the radar with the Yelp crowd, perhaps in its insistence on formality, leisurely paced, service driven white table dining. Overlooking this place would be a mistake. We took full advantage of the perfect weather by dining on the most beautiful patio seating I've ever been to in SE Michigan. To top it off, we were completely alone. A huge surprise, and a calming oasis just steps from Big Beaver Rd. Food offerings run the gamut of traditional Italian dishes (minus the red-sauce laden pasta classics). For starters, we sprang for both the baby octopus and burrata. Both were terrific, but the burrata in particular was the highlight of the evening. Accompanied by roasted peaches and the most incredibly flavorful, slightly dried tomatoes - it was a knockout. Followed that up with their unique rift on the Caesar, being served in a bowl made of parmagiano. Only wish there had been more actual romaine to accompany all that delicious baked cheese. For an entrée, went with the filet. Came with a slightly unusual accompaniment in the form of beet mashed potatoes that were much to dry. Steak itself was a premium piece of meat and properly cooked, but simply didn't provide the oomph in a 45 dollar entrée. My sole disappointment of the night. Had a remarkably congenial waiter and the service, as one would expect, was flawless. Wine list is extraordinary with a wide range and breadth of all things Italian. I helped myself to a few glasses of a phenomenal nebbiolo. It might seem obvious, but do not come here expecting a quick in and out. This is event dining at its most leisurely. Through much fault of our own with the multitude of courses, beverages and fantastic outdoor setting, we were here for over 3 hours. All told, a fantastic Michigan restaurant that ranks right up there with Trattoria Stella and Bacco for the Italian crown in this state.

Romantic says it all. The elegant ambiance and soothing Italian music made me all cozy and warm. The scenery outside is perfect (weather permitting) I recommend dining outdoors. There aren't many scenic restaurants in Michigan, so while sitting here you feel you are on a vacation. ;) Ok maybe I'm getting a bit carried away because it was a nice date and the weather was perfect... Haha. Don't forget to stop by on the weekend where they have live entertainment classical at it's best. Oh, don't forget--No jeans. I'll be back! Buon Appetito! ;).

This is a fine dining restaurant and not a pizza-spaghetti place. Please don't wear jeans. The food is among the best in Michigan with great carpaccio, superior salad with fresh arugula, endive and great olive oil. We had fabulous wine from a knowledgeable staff. Saltimbocca, branzino and the filet were all wonderful. This is true dining.

Tre Monti Ristorante gave me the best dining experience I've had in Michigan. An expensive menu doesn't mean you'll have a quality meal, but here, every penny is worth it. We had a reservation for my mom's 50th birthday and it was a little earlier in the evening, about 6:30, so the restaurant was not quite filled yet. Our server brought us sparkling water and we ordered drinks. I had the Spice Apple Old Fashioned which was sweet, delicious, and strong. My mom had the Bellitini which she seemed to enjoy. My sister had a glass of Rosé and dad had a glass of cabernet sauvignon. All great drinks. To start, we had Tre Monti's version of a calamari dish which was my least favorite item we ordered, but still delicious. It was spun in a spicy and creamy sauce which could have been seasoned a little bit stronger (as with most of Tre Monti's dishes), but the peppers and olives helped to balance out the flavors. We also tried the Frutti di Mare all a Griglia. Absolutely recommend. You get a taste of a few different seafoods which were all perfectly cooked, not over or under done. Perfectly seasoned by the ocean and just enhanced in the kitchen. Langoustines were the best by far. We then had pasta and salads before our main dishes which were pretty good. We had the mozzarella and tomato and the beet and tomato salads which were both beautiful and made with truly the best ingredients, but I would like to try something else next time. We ordered the Strozzapreti pasta. Authentic Italian pasta. Very likely the best pasta I've ever had. It's hard to eat pasta with a tomato-based sauce anywhere else now. For entrees, we had the squid ink spaghetti, 55-day aged wagyu NY, dover sole, and rack of lamb, in order of best to least best. Squid ink pasta is really something to come back for. Wagyu steak was just a really nice and perfectly done steak, thick juicy pink medium. Dover sole was moist and deboned table side with a pleasant lemon sauce and yummy beet mashed potatoes to accompany it. Lamb was a significantly smaller portion than every other dish, and surprisingly tougher than expected, but the truffle polenta bits made up for it. For dessert we got the gelato trio, blood orange, pistachio, and espresso, (next time we'll get three servings of espresso. It is the taste of REAL coffee) and the molten chocolate cake with hazelnut gelato. Needless to say, every last bite was yummy. A few miscellaneous things to mention. If anyone knows a thing or two about bread, you can tell that Tre Monti's bread does not have a yeasty taste. A few good bakeries proof their bread without yeast and use a different method possibly with rye or something similar (not a baker, just a good taster) which makes for a very clean and nutty flavor of bread with no sour aftertaste. But they should serve more butter with the bread. Don't hesitate to order pasta as an entree because of the other choices. I will definitely do so next visit. Also I haven't said much about service, but there's not much to say other than that it is exactly what you would expect at a fine restaurant. Expert knowledge of the menu (an Italian man), meticulous, and always one step ahead of the customer. With one look our server knew what we needed. He was a great addition to our lovely meal. We will be back for sure!

Great ambiance excellent service. OMG Captains and back waiters haven't seen that around here for quite a while. Very good appetizers they even split them. delicious mushroom soup. My Veal had an issue but was taken care of promptly. The osso bucco special was perfect. Didn't do dessert but will next time can't go wrong with table side. Will definitely be back.

Loved everything about this place from the beginning to the end. It was perfect for an anniversary night. Nice ambience and dim light set the perfect mood. The person serving us was very cordial, with a bit of humor and gave some good suggestions. Service is excellent and they take care of you very well. The meal portion is perfect to let the taste buds feel satiated. A strong recommendation would be to try the gnocchi pesto, just melts in your mouth. They also split the meal and customize the portion to suit your need. This restaurant is suitable for a fine dining experience, quiet conversations, with a requirement for formal neat dress up. So plan your visit in advance. And yes, they have a huge wine collection to choose from.

I have to qualify this by saying, I far prefer the new trend in a more casual dining experience. That's said it was nice to have a nice meal in a beautiful setting with great service. Everything about my experience at Tre Monti was top notch. This restaurant was a nice throwback and has its place in the Metro Detroit foods scene. None of the food really stands out in my mind, but the overall dining experience was very memorable. This is a great place for a romantic date or a celebration.

So we had reservations. Granted, we were wearing very nice blue jeans, but I also had a $200 Ralph Lauren sweater and very nice riding boots. My husband had on a very nice button down dress shirt. We just arrived into town from a 2 hour drive so that we can spend some money at Somerset. We were told by a hostess wearing a very short mini skirt and the manager that we could not dine in the main room, but would have sit down at the bar because we were in jeans. I was actually surprised because #1.. No one can see if you have jeans on under a table... But they can at a bar. #2, although we were in jeans, we looked very nice. A $150 pair of jeans is inferior to a $30 pair of Dockers? The hostess and manager were very nice about it. It is not their fault. But seriously... This is not 1956. My money is just as green as anyone's. We would have easily spent money on a full dinner, appetizers and a nice bottle of wine. Their loss. There was no line, and the parking lot was fairly empty for a Friday night. I'm not surprised. My advice: relax or you will fail. The younger crowd isn't into pretentious. We drove the extra mile to Maggianos. Same price point... Same style of food. We will have to wait 45 minutes to get a table, but that's ok....(that gives me plenty of time to write a review on Yelp.) We have been to Maggianos all over the country, and we know it will be worth it. :) P.s.... Our bill for Maggianos was about $150 less than we would have spent here. Maybe we should use it to buy 5 pair of cheap khakis.... :p

I haven't been here in awhile, but I miss it! The decor and menu are lovely. The service is perfect as well. I remember reading that they are hosting more live entertainment. Next time I return, I'll comment more on my fave entrees, but I wanted to at least write a little something to encourage ppl to go!

It pains me to give Tre Monti only 3 stars, because they treated our birthday group so well. This is a very elegant, refined restaurant, with excellent service and a variety of interesting dishes. The location has a reclusive, resort feel, and while sitting in the courtyard for dinner, we all collectively shared the impression that we were away from Detroit and off on vacation. Very relaxing. And they have a Bocce court! AND they let us use it for free! Mega props for this, guys. However -- I have to judge restaurants based on food, and food alone. Among the seven of us, we ordered Mozzarella Di Bufala Campana ($12) for an appetizer, basically a stack of sliced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil leaves drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It sounds more impressive than it is, and unfortunately, that was the theme of the night. Not that it was bad, but it was exactly as expected -- some cheese, some tomato, some balsamic. Badda boom. The bread was also not warmed for us, though we did get a very nice garlic olive oil for dipping. I ordered the Ravioli Arragosta ($20), basically lobster cream sauce inside ravioli. The pasta itself was cooked well, but the dish itself tasted too much like cream, and not enough like lobster. A good idea that felt letdown by cheaping out on the main ingredient. Still, definitely edible with a bit of black pepper and cheese for flavor. Overall, this is a great place to impress a date with your mad Italian pronunciation and Bocce ball skillz, but take your Italian mom elsewhere. Somewhat overpriced, but I'm not counting this against the restaurant. Dress nicely, or you'll definitely feel out of place.

I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant and considering I live in LA and only come to Troy to see my parents that is saying a lot. Don't bother going here for dinner ever, the personnel is AWFUL and the food is completely overrated, I was SO disappointed. Also, apparently the chefs use prepackaged food rather than preparing fresh dishes in the back because I was told my only option there as a vegetarian was spaghetti because there weren't any veggies to be put on it. It was like pulling teeth to get some awful overpriced pasta. I've had better Italian food at airports than this restaurant. Thank the Lord for alcohol, otherwise I would've freaked out and told my waiter exactly what I thought of him. Save yourself the trip, times are tough in MI so take your money to a restaurant that will appreciate you and treat you like you deserve.

Every time.......PERFECT in every way............Been there many, many times in all seasons, however; SUMMER out in the court yard is a mini vacation... One of the last places left where one SHOULD dress well..(respect) ? . .A real treat. The staff treats you like Royality. Top 10 Best Places to go when in Michigan

Way overpriced for the amount of food you get and don't get me wrong, it tasted pretty good. 2 people ordered carry out items off their dinner menu and was asked if they wanted whole or half portions of food. They went with whole portions of a dish called Panzotti con Porcini e Tartuf and there was a total of maybe 6 to 8 pieces of pasta at best in each of their meals. So that means that a half an order would only have 3 or 4 pieces of pasta in it.? Their bill came to $50.00! Are you kidding me? Carry out for 2 people and only 2 full entrees ordered? Now I know why the place was empty during lunch hours. Warning!!! Their dinner menu prices listed are for half orders.

In a world filled with American style Italian food, Tre Monti is the closest to authentic Italian food you'll get in this area. This is always my go to restaurant for special occasions. The food is very good and the service is top notch. The menu is set up like an authentic Italian dinner: Primi piatti (first dishes) will mainly be pastas followed by secondi piatti (second dishes) will be meat and fish. If you don't like the two plate set up for dinner, you can always just order a full size pasta dish or a meat dish. And don't forget about the dessert, the tiramisù is my favorite. If you like the fancy dinning experience, I definitely recommend Tre Monti. If you're more of the chicken alfredo type with unlimited breadsticks and soup, then I wouldn't go here.

Went to this restaurant tonight and I gotta say it's a very nice looking place and very classy second thing was the wait staff were super nice and all polite but the reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the menu imo is not your typical Italian restaurant menu and not place for you if your use restaurants like andiamo or mangiano I got the 16 oz veal and it was good but not my cup of tea and there pasta dishes are not like your average Italian dishes as I mentioned but over all everything was good

Came to Tre Monti on a business dinner. The place is kind of hidden but worth trying to find it. The food was excellent. Being a big party we had a good sample of appetizers, main dishes and deserts to try. Everything I tried was excellent. I had the stuffed veal chop. It was amazing. The lasagna was also very good. Not quite my favorite but worth trying. The gnocchi with the pesto was also very good. In addition to the food the service was excellent. As others said, this is not a casual dinning place. Think business casual at a minimum. Would certainly go back when in town.

The next best thing to Italy! My husband and I always love love love our meals at Tre Monti! The service is second to none, they have a great selection and change the menu frequently enough that it's like coming to a different restaurant every time! The pasta is so fresh ~ it really has a close resemblance to that of what you get in Italy.

An excellent, romantic spot for dinner. We were absolutely pleased from the great choices in wine, the delicious apps (we had trio that included shrimp in white sauce, diver scallop with duck bacon, caprese stack and balsamic drizzle, special salts), to the cheese and spread, and their specials (I split the asiago stuffed gnocchi, and veal napoli with my husband) to the lovely desserts (we had gelato with a balsamic drizzle, zabaglione). The ambiance is just charming and they have bocce ball on site. I'm now campaigning for the next summer wedding to be held here!

I was here long ago and my experience from a to z was so so. Nothing really stood out. So I heard they won restaurant of the year and I got a chance to make it out one evening and there is one change I noticed right away, a change of the guard. Let me start off by saying that this place is not only still beautiful but it operates as a symphony when it comes down to the service. Everything including the menu has been retooled and obviously been thought of down to the finest detail. The food is inspiring, the bar awaits to compliment your mood and the service is omnipresent. This place is all about the pinnacle of quality and definitely is worthy of 5 stars. I experienced why they received a much deserved title of restaurant of the year. Thank you for doing what you do!

This restaurant is way overpriced. Maybe they had a bad day but for the prices they charge I expect perfection. The service was slow and unfriendly. Some of the food was served barely warm. They served my appetizer with my salad???? The bread was not good (especially for an Italian restaurant). The portions were small. I did enjoy the Branzino sea bass though the broccoli rabe side was overcooked to oblivion. The only positive was the atmosphere. I have enjoyed great restaurants around the world. This restaurant is not one of them. I can't understand why this restaurant received so many positive reviews. Foodies will feel swindled.

Skip it. I really hate to be so hard on this place but, Jesus, it is too fancy for its own good. Felt like I was an 8 yr old in church. Not my kinda restaurant. Stuffy, terrible design, empty. it feels like a wedding reception hall. Dark wood. lots of beige. Its also in the middle of Troy so the only other thing I can do while I'm out having lunch is maybe go to an ATM or.... nope thats it. The food was decent. Good booze. The service took forever. Sloooow. Had to hunt the waiter down, and we were the only table. They were very nice when my drunk friends got naked on the front lawn. They seem to have a high tolerance for craziness.. Which is good. Bam!

Five stars is generous, but my meal at Tre Monti deserves it. We sat at the bar, because that's what we do. Not stuffy, but not super casual- just right. The bartender, Mia, was wonderful! My cocktail was super tasty, gin with St Germain and some white grape and lime. I was expecting it to be okay, as most restaurant cocktails are. But it was great. Or rather, they were great. Plural, as usual. As for the claim that the butter served with the bread is cold, it is not. If it was, they've stopped. The butter is luxuriously soft and seemed to be spiked with a bit of cheese. The bread, which I should not be eating, was warm and fluffy, chewy with a beautiful crust. So good. My beet salad was excellent, the tri color salad my friend had was good, but very simple and not as exciting as my choice. A little bird had told me that the filet Tre Monti serves is possibly the finest in our area, so I went for it, medium rare. It's served perfectly cooked atop a bed of bright red beet smashed potato, topped with a little blue cheese and some roasted spaghetti squash. There's a little aged balsamic and roasted garlic to balance the plate. The verdict? In my opinion, the filet is stellar and is indeed one of the very best I have had in our great state. Perfect sear, beautiful pink in the middle, flavor was killer. The potato was sensual and unusual and comforting all at once. Overall, an outstanding example of what a steak should be. A glutton by nature, I felt the need to round out my meal of 9 oz of meat with desserts and coffee. I chose the lava cake with hazelnut gelato for there and the NY style cheesecake for home. I also had a cappuccino. The chocolate lava was warm, chocolaty, dark and delicious. The gelato was a perfect creamy touch of lightness. The cappuccino was also perfect. I'll have to report back on the cheesecake but I was told it's amazeballs. Overall, I'm highly impressed with Tre Monti. Fantastic service, not over the top but just right. The vibe here is upscale and pleasant. I'll be back. Regularly.

I only give it two stars for its great service. Although the entire staff was extremely sweet and attentive the atmosphere is soooooo stuffy. I suggest this spot for much older couples who want to eat very quietly. The food was forgettable as our appetizer some pasta bolognese was bland and main course a bone in rib eye tasted like a slab of salt. Also, the bread is served with rock hard butter which really gets on my nerves.

I have been here many times enough that we have a wine locker at this point. So after many meals and much money spent we were a bit surprised that we would be discriminated against for wearing jeans. for the first time in many visits we were told that because I had jeans on I was "not allowed" to sit in the dining room. end of he day. good food good service! I do recommend it. I had to give it less stars because they discriminate. next time I am going to send someone ahead in dress pants so they can sit in the dining room, and show up late in Jeans just to see if they kick us out

Tre Monti is a dining experience! I absolutely love this gem of a restaurant. If you're looking for a restaurant with impeccable service, modern elegant interiors and amazing Italian food, go to Tre Monti. Their happy hour is pretty awesome, too. They have a full bar and an extensive wine list with several by the glass options. For a dinner you'll never forget, I recommend: Antipasti - Mozzarella di Bufalo Campana (Bufala mozzarella, vine ripe tomatoes, micro basil, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic glaze) Salad - Campagnola (Spring mix, shiitake mushrooms, cannellini beans, tomatoes, kalamata olives, roasted peppers, goat cheese, extra virgin olive oil, white balsamic) Main - Tagliolini ai Frutti Di Mare *AHHHMAZING* (Thin ribbons of fresh pasta, Longostino calamari, scallops, manila clams, saffron tomato broth) Dessert - Monte Titano (Molten chocolate lava cake, hazelnut gelato) Those are just some of my favorites! For wine pairing and cocktail suggestions, just ask your waiter. They're super friendly and extremely knowledgeable.

Came to dinner here for my husbands birthday dinner here early on a Thursday night, it started to pick up as we're were wrapping up. The host and waiters were very polite and gracious. The ambience is more quiet calm and a little bit of an older crowd, but very elegant and welcoming. The decor is amazing and very high end. For appetizers we had the spicy calamari-lightly breaded, with colored banana peppers, which the waiters actually TO you... Also had the carpaccio, with arugula, fresh mozzarella, fresh Parmesan, some mushrooms, and lightly drizzled with truffle oil (recommended) - this was phenomenal, the taste of the thinly sliced meat was so clean and not fatty at all. We also were served the bacon wrapped sea scallops, they were great but only come two in an order. For dinner, my husband and I both ordered the 55 day aged premium Osso in Bistecca, which is basically an aged steak, recommended to be served medium rare, which is very tender and flavorful, but not in a filet mignon kind of way. You really have to appreciate me to appreciate the flavor in the steak, Slightly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, Served with carrots and potatoes au gratin. The plate was drizzled on the outer edge with the homemade zip sauce, which I would not have minded drenching my steak in!! The main course really was outstanding, along with the service and atmosphere. So why four stars instead of five you might be thinking? First because the appetizer portions were pretty small based on the price, Which were range from $13-$18 each. And secondly because when I called to make the reservation earlier I told them that it was my husband's birthday and to have a candle on the cake which they completely forgot about. Lastly, The crowd was all 40 somethings and up, So definitely not a young hip trendy place Overall though the dinner was pretty spectacular And we definitely will be back

Definitely not on par with 'Restaurant of the Year' quality. Was very disappointed with the argumentative wait staff, the messed up orders, waiting almost an hour for a simple coke. Fluctuated between over-the-top and pretentious to disappointing and condescending service. We were a very patient and agreeable party and, while the food was good, we've all had better elsewhere and certainly not at the expense of arguing with the staff. We will not be returning.

This place thinks it's really a big deal. It's not. My wife and I had a four course meal and we were not impressed. The service was very attentive but they were trying too hard to keep it formal. It was like they thought they were butlers at a state dinner or something. The antipasto was a carpaccio and it was the best part of the meal. It had a really good truffle oil. For the pasta I had a boring strozzapreti bowl with a half assed creamy meat sauce. My wife had some gnocchi with a creamy pesto, she said it was Pretty good. The meal fell apart with the main entree. The stuffed chicken breast was over-cooked and the chef should never have let it come out of the kitchen. Their take on veal saltimbocca had lightly breaded eggplant, mozzarella, tomato, and that same bland creamy sauce, which was the base for the strozzapreti. We then had after dinner drinks which were ok. Bottom line is the food was meh. I don't mind dropping $200 for excellent food and atmosphere but this was stuffy service and a mailed in effort on the food. Not terrible, just complacent.

Wonderful!! I came during restaurant week and had the gnocchi. I believe it came with a house salad which was really good too. The service was impeccable like you would expect from a place of this caliber. I love this place!!!!

Must say I'm very disappointed after last nights meal at Tre Monti. Service was very poor, and food was mediocre at best. The bartender didn't know how to make my drink (it was listed on the bar menu, which is not that long, maybe 8 cocktails total). Waiter never explained any of the menu, no pairing suggestions, and when I asked about the portion size, he couldn't even make that clear enough. The entree was definitely better than the first 2 coarses but I wouldn't go back there just for that.

I had no idea that this place existed, even though I drive by it all the time. It is hidden by the San Marino club, which manages to have an even more outlandish architecture. We got lucky, because they extended their happy hour by two hours for us (otherwise, it ends at six). Seriously, who gets off work at 4pm? There is even a decent looking patio. The interior was beautiful, but because I was with a MeetUp we were relegated to some sort of banquet room. The wine selection consisted of four bottles in said room, which had its own bar. I really hope that the people in the proper dining room had access to more bottles, I suspect they did. I imagine we only got the happy hour menu, which actually had many more food options than I would have expected. All of it looked spectacular. I settled on the Piada Con Prosciutto - like an Italian quesadilla. This was super tasty and I would recommend this. I just did not like that there was no waitstaff for like 80 people. There were only two bartenders (sometimes less) to contend with the whole crowd. I would considere coming back here for Restaurant Week or something.

The service at Tre Monti is old school, fantastic. I had the best adaptation of a Caesar salad that I have ever had. There were two perfectly seasoned chicken breasts stacked up against a bowl made of parmesan cheese that was out of this world good. It's hard to find but worth seeking out for a great dining experience. Also, the back patio looks like it would be a great place to throw a party. It looks like a Roman garden meets a Miami beach pool party.

Please DRESS UP or you are going to feel like an idiot. You're welcome. This is really painful for me to type because I am a huge fan of fine dining. The place is beautiful but the service is very slow. Perhaps this is customary in fine dining but I don't remember spending 2 and 1/2 hours eating dinner at Coach Insignia or any other local fine dining establishment. The waiter was never around when we needed something. I could barely get another glass of wine! The food was just meh. I had the carpaccio appetizer and it looked like a small animal was sacrificed on a plate. At first I thought they mistakenly gave me prosciutto with some grass and a Robin's egg but nope, this was it. It really didn't have any flavor at all. My companion ordered bacon wrapped scallops and wasn't really impressed with them either. After we finished our apps, our waiter disappeared again so it took forever to flag his attention and order our entrees. (Mind you, we were 1 of 4 tables in the entire place so they weren't busy.) I ordered the filet mignon medium well and it was overcooked and bland. I know they're using quality aged beef but I still like some type of seasoning on there. Geez humor me with some salt and pepper! My steak was dry and I was longing for some salt and melted butter to doctor it up. Pretty sad for a $200 dinner. My companion had the steak too and agreed that it was bland and the so-called "zip sauce" had anything but zip. So I dressed up to the nines and blew $207.00 on a mediocre dinner. Lesson learned.

It was a very nice restaurant. Not a jeans and t-shirt type of place (I was totally under dressed). We went here because of a Groupon and it was the last day of Troy's restaurant week. When we arrived, the waiter gave us the menu. I noticed that we didn't get get the restaurant week menu so I asked for that. He said that Groupons don't work for that but I wanted to see that menu anyways. Couldn't he have just brought out both menus and tell us that the Groupon doesn't work on the fixed menu? I thought it was rude that he didn't even show it to us knowing that we came with a Groupon. Then after he collected the menu, he took my napkin and put it on my lap. Who does that?? Anyways, the food was really good! I ordered the Zuppa DiFunghi Selvatici (mushroom soup). It was pureed mushrooms with truffle oil. For my meal, I got Ravioli Arragosta (ravioli that was stuffed with lobster). Both delicious! I would order those again!

My wife and I definitely enjoyed our dining experience at Tre Monti. The atmosphere is definitely "high brow" so if your not into that sort of dining this is not the place for you. Our waiter was very professional, informative and attentive. Our meals were prepared and presented wonderfully and were very tasty. The two meals an appetizer and a bottle of ran ran $128.00 (plus tip) which I didn't feel was too outrages but even better was we had a coupon from restaurant.com ($2.00 for $25.00 off). We will surely come back.

My husband and i went to Tre Monti for our anniversary dinner recently. The food was amazingly delicious... the Portobello appetizer was so good i didn't want to share it with my husband! They have an extensive wine list and some interesting cocktails, one with basil that my husband loved. The Sea Bass was like butter and just cooked so perfectly. The staff was as friendly as you can expect from a fine dining establishment. We are not fine dining regulars and our waiter was nice enough to drop some of the usual formalities to make our experience more enjoyable.

good italian food we sat outside...very nice can see the club members playing bocce pasta was done right..al dente - not the overcooked pasta like most area restaurants - not the "baked [insert italian pasta name here]" dishes like most area restaurants where the pasta is overcooked and has a 1" layer of melted mozarella cheese on top

This place was great. I went here for dinner and was so impressed. The wait staff patiently explained all the specials to our large (12 person) group and brought out some delightful appetizers for us to sample. I'm sure someone ordered them for our table, but I frankly have no clue what it was that I was eating, other than it was delicious! I ordered the Hawaiian butter fish, which was melt-in-your-mouth good. It is similar to a Chilean Sea bass in taste & texture, but they had some great Italian inspired sauce on it. When I could not finish it, they offered to box it up. I asked if they had some extra sauce (thinking it was just sitting in a vat back in the kitchen) could they throw some more on it for me? They actually made another small batch of the sauce for me (which caused a slight delay getting my take-home box, but it was worth it). We also ordered the Chocolate Volcano dessert. It was great, but super rich. I think 3 of us shared it. Like a little piece of chocolate heaven. The prices were steep, but the food and service are top notch. Worth it? I would say so!

The food was very good...the staff very nice...the atmosphere very stuffy. We were a group of 8 and we totally felt conspicuous. This is perhaps better suited to date night? And though I gave it 3 stars...I doubt we'll be back.

A friend of mine and I went to Tre Monti spontaneously tonight and both of us were pleasantly surprised at the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The location is slightly tucked away and offers plenty of parking space (+complimentary valet!). Blue and Bordeaux are the main colors of the table clothes and interior fabrics that remind us the tiny independent republican country nestled in Italy-San Marino. We chose to sit down at one of the patio seats so that we could enjoy the food while being surrounded by the peaceful garden and a cute gazebo. The menu is typical italian with a few san marino accents. I had a featured fish stew paired with a Sauvignon Blanc from Tuscany and my friend ordered a salmon dish. We finished up by sharing a Tiramitsu that was one of the best I've ever had. Overall the food was descent, nothing extraodinarily memorable but delightful and carefully prepared. I definitely recommend this place if you're up for a quiet, breezy evening with a few friends to talk and drink. Oh did I mention the staff was very friendly and attentive? Later we wanted to move inside because of some mosquitos and it wasn't a problem at all. Our waiter made everything fast and smooth. The music inside the dinning room is tricky though. It was lounge music at first then turned into 80s and a bit louder. Well, I guess it all depends on what you like. I still think you might enjoy this place just for its overal elegant ambiance and relaxing atmosphere.

Beautiful restaurant, the food was DELICIOUS!!! I only wish the staff was a tad less stuffy, but they were extremely attentive, and on top of everything. Would absolutely go back again!

I had dinner at this resturant 2years ago and would have given it 4 stars but not after my experience tonight. The service was extremely slow (the restaurant was not full and we had dinner reservations at 6:15). My ravioli was luke warm and when it sent it back, it came back about half the portion of the origional and was still not very hot. The calimari appitizer was good, but overall the meal was a bit overpriced (everything is ala carte).

Recently someone asked me about the criteria I use when I review a restaurant. My answer was "the food, always the food". While I appreciate nice surroundings and good service, it is the food that brings me back to a place. I'm not just referring to the taste... the execution matters as well. Is the dish cooked properly? Is there depth of flavor? Does it have a pleasing texture? If it is a deconstructed dish, does it evoke the flavor profile of the original dish? Is the dish really what it is advertised to be (i.e. if it is touted to be "authentic", is it)? On this last point, let me be clear. Just because something is "authentic", doesn't mean that it will be good... if you use crap ingredients or don't prepare it correctly, you get crap food! Likewise, I believe something that is clearly not authentic - Crab Rangoons and General Tso's chicken come to mind - can be very good if cooked well with fresh ingredients (just don't call it "authentic"). Why all this prattle about my criteria? Because it is germane to my review of Tre Monti. It actually pains me to give Tre Monti a bad rating because at one time it was my favorite Italian/San Marino restaurant in the Detroit area after the decline of il Posto. The meats and fish were seasoned and cooked correctly, the pasta al dente and not smothered in the sauce, and, atypical for most Italian restaurants here, the salad was served after the entree as it is done in Italy and most of Europe. The dessert menu, while retaining the ubiquitous tiramisu that I have found exceedingly boring, also had unique items like lemon-ice served in the lemon rind. Clearly, they had the "authentic" thing down and had food that tasted good. And then, the food at Tre Monti began a steady, inevitable decline in what I can only conjecture to be a reliance on cheaper ingredients, and poorer execution of the menu in an effort to minimize cost and maximize the number of covers per night. To illustrate my point, allow me to describe my last meal at Tre Monti. I had ordered the spaghetti carbonara and the osso buco served with mushroom risotto. The carbonara was just a plate of over-cheesed, greasy, pancetta-flavored pile of goo. All the ingredients seemed to be there but I could not taste any of the lightly scambled egg used to coat the noodles and lighten the dish. Poorly done. The osso buco, aside from being miniscule, was dry and exceedingly salty. The sauce provided no balance to the saltiness. The real problem with the dish, however, was the mushroom risotto. In well made risotto, the rice is slightly al dente with a creamy texture. It should not be so watery as to be mistaken for a soup and neither should it be so sticky that you can mold it or it sticks to the plate if turned on it's side. One should be able to discern all the individual ingredients in each mouthful. This "risotto" was essentially a sticky, mushy, ball of overcooked rice with a chip or 2 of an indistinguishable mushroom. I could not taste any of the supposed wine that went into it. Frankly, it tasted like an Uncle Ben's pre-mixed rice accompaniment gone horribly awry. Again, poor ingredients, poor execution = crap dish. Maybe someday I'll give Tre Monti another try. I sincerely hope things improve. Until then, the quest for good Italian cuisine must press on.

i have been to just about every dining out place in metro detroit, with that said i have to say this place is is my bottom 5. The staff here SUCKS`. Most of the emplyees here have absolutly nooo personality. we had drinks at the bar prior to our dinner and the bartender bitched what of a pain in the ass it was to make our paticular cocktail we ordered. When we were seated our server could have given a care less about us and was far fronm attentive. The food was delicious but wayyy overpriced. I was so turned off from the bad vibe i was getting in this place i could barely concentrate on the food. this place needs a fun upbeat enviroment with cool music and a fun waitstaff working for them, this would make this place work. its a shame that they didnt prepare for this from the beginning, it had the potential to be one of the best from the beginning....

my bf and i went to tre monti last friday to use a groupon i had purchased. when we entered the restaurant there was no hostess to be seen and two groups of people were waiting for tables. after about a 15 minute wait we were seated - the restaurant is beautiful and definitely fancier than what we are used to. i tried to joke with the waiter b/c he seemed so uptight - but i guess that's what some people want in a server at a restaurant like this. he was not interested in small talk or my jokes ha ha! he was very polite and attentive. one thing i found strange was that we did not get our menus until after we had ordered wine - maybe this is common in higher end restaurants, but my bf and i were a bit confused by that. we both ordered ceaser salads - really tasty and served in a parmesean crisp (we think!) bowl - can't beat an edible bowl! my bf got the blahblahblah michelangelo (can't remember the whole name) as an entree - it came with veal, scallops, and shrimp on top of a potato cake and spinach. he devoured it! i ordered the blah blah blah spaghetti - it came with potatoes, peas and pancetta. it was really delicious and both were really good serving sizes. all in all - the food and atmosphere were quite enjoyable. i am not really into the uptight service and probably would not go there again unless it was a very special occasion or had another groupon as it was pretty expensive.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
