I work at the Congress Building right across the road and I frequent this place often when I am craving fried fish and chips. I will say though, it used to be better a few years ago. The fish and chips special used to use bigger pieces of cod but now you get 4 finger length pieces, which leads me to believe they are frozen or pre-packaged. I still like this place for what it is and it's not too expensive.

When you are in the mood for some good fried seafood give Detroit Shrimp & Fish a try. While they are nothing fancy, they have good portions and all the seafood we tried tasted pretty good. The service wasn't unfriendly - but it wasn't friendly either. But with that said, they were very busy. We tried several different types of fish - all good. Tried shrimp a couple different ways - and they were good too. Would be nice if they had a couple healthier options on the menu too. Seafood can be awesome not fried too.

While the food was very tasty and well seasoned and the fish very fresh, I was slightly disappointed in the wait time but more disappointed by 2 things: 1) the menu was a little confusing for a first timer and no one took the time to explain it; and, 2) their menu could stand to use at least one veggie side to counterbalance all that fried fried deliciousness.

lord have mercy, the man put his foot all up in that frier! catfish nuggets jumbo shrimp hush puppies clam strips even the fries...... and the lady that works at the counter, although she was busy juggling 2 phones, she was very kind. the place looked real clean, gave you a good feeling. good value for money and swallow your tongue good. i'll be back.....often.

Usually I don't do this but this turn around deserves to be acknowledged...I don't know if someone read my review but it seems as though all of my complaints were taken care of...I called an their was no hold, I walked in I was greeted and most importantly their was no wait time for my food..WOW!!! This is the type of turn around that will keep me and other TRUE and LOYAL Detroit Shrimp and Fish fan coming back...Especially since I'm from Mississippi were I know great food especially fish and have been coming here for 9 years straight not to mention I bring someone here whenever they come to town...that says a lot... Thank you whomever listened and made the difference. It feels great when a customer's complaint is acknowledged and resolved...it shows that you are not cocky and truly appreciate our business...

When this place first opened the food had great flavor and I didn't mind paying extra or waiting along time to be serviced. However recently the taste quality has dropped and so has service. I understand the need to raise and maintain prices but the quality of food should still remain high. The food is starting to lack favor and the wait times (even if you call in) are outrages! Sadly I won't be visiting this place again. I hope management pulls it together.

I usually try to give a vivid description of the restaurants I review without using slang words. This is not one of those times. The shrimp at this carry out place is the bomb! Straight up off the hook! Now that I've gotten that out of my system let me explain why. Have you ever had what was suppose to be shrimp and it ends up being a whole lot of batter? Ever been served cold french fries? Have you ever had soupy banana pudding? None of these experiences apply to Detroit Shrimp & Fish! The shrimp are HUGE! The Talapia is delicious, it doesn't have a "fishy" taste if that makes sense. And the banana pudding is sinful! The wait can be some what long if you don't order ahead being everything is made to order, which is actually good. The service is so-so, not necessarily terrible, but there is room for improvement; but food is definitely worth it the wait and the so-so service!

Great quality fried seafood. Satisfying comfort food. Breading is not overwhelming.

Those who read my reviews know I despise seafood...but let me tell you, I frequent this place a lot. Why? Well, the smoothies are WONDERFUL. Actually, I can't even tell you about all of the smoothies, but the strawberry one makes my day...or week. Try one! or buy one and give it to me :-)

I like to give a place a couple of visits before I criticize. So I gave this place three visits. Here goes... My son, a self-proclaimed shrimp aficionado, told me this place had the best shrimp at the best prices that he'd ever had. But, he said, the service wasn't the best. So, to be fair, I did go in with low expectations. Our first visit was greeted by a very polite, genial, young man who impressed us with his manner and demeanor. I thought, maybe my son was wrong. The food was INCREDIBLE. The prices are very good. But the quantity and quality of the food blew us away. We had the shrimp and fish combos and could have purchased one and shared it and still ate for two days. The second visit was certainly no comparison to the first (in terms of service). The young lady at the register had such a bad attitude that we had considered going someplace else. However, it was very busy, and I really wanted some bass. So we dealt with it. Forty-five minute wait from entrance to exit. Let's try them again...It's Saturday night. Dinner hour. I thought it would be better to call in my order. I call. The person taking the order seemed rushed and annoyed. I had to repeat the order a couple of times. We ordered two shrimp and fish combos. Simple enough, right? She said it would take 20 - 25 minutes, and asked if that would be alright. Hmmm. Nice of her to ask. This is starting off good, (I hoped). We arrived about 35 minutes after I placed my order. First, when I walked to the counter, the young lady at the register took nearly a full minute to finish her conversation about a "squeegee" with someone behind the counter before she acknowledged me with "you got a call in?". Strike one. I told her I did and gave my name. Order will be up in a minute. (Insert Final Jeopardy music here.) Twenty minutes later,... Strike two. Their menu indicates that you may purchase extra slices of bread and "bread ends" are available at no charge when available. I asked her if they had any "bread ends" available. And after what I can only describe as a "Who's on First" exchange (she didn't know what a "bread end" was), even as I explained that it was on their menu, I told her never mind. The other participant in the "squeegee" conversation came up and she asked her about the "bread ends". They seemed to find the whole conversation "comical". Then the other lady asked me "Were you wanting to include 'bread ends' with your order "? She spoke slowly and deliberately the way you do when you speak to someone who may not understand English very well. Strike three. I told her I had, but since it seemed to be a problem, no thanks. When I got home with our dinners, what did I have as bread?....All bread ends. Strike....were you keeping count? Two pluses...1) The food is GREAT. Cooked very well. Well seasoned. And they offer great choices. 2) They appear to be community oriented in that they invest in area youth by hiring them. The minuses...1) service just flat-out sucks! 2) service sucks, and 3) did I mention the service? It sucks. I'm very certain that if they last long enough, I will continue to visit Detroit Shrimp & Fish. The food is that good. However, if other choices are available at the time, Detroit Shrimp & Fish will not be one of my first choices.

I am totally hooked on the tilapia with cornmeal breading. It is the most amazing fish I have ever eaten. I drive 12 miles for this fish and still can't get enough! Never ever a speck of oil either. This is a carryout place.

I had the ocean perch and shrimp dinner, and it was excellent. The fish & shrimp were very fresh. This was evident when you walk into the shop, there is no fish smell, even though they are frying fish. Lastly, the fish was well seasoned, and the batter was light (same for the shrimp). I would definitely recommend this place.

I try to visit a place a few times before I write just in case they have a bad night. So with that said customer service SUCKS!!! The food is great just don't call in a order. They place a call on hold by hold I mean lay it down so i can hear them laughing and joking in the background. Other than that like I said the food is soooooo good.
