Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

The only positive thing about this visit was how pleasant the hostess was. We were seated promptly for once, but then it went downhill. Service was slower than molasses and no apologies were offered. Our 27$ entrees were Luke warm after they came from the kitchen and the filets were the dryness cut of meat, that I had to ask for steak sauce. The endless shrimp were rubbery but I guess it is a steak place. Our entire dining experience took two hours... With a two year old and a six year old. And the excuse at the end was how busy they were but they always had open tables and it seems ample staff. From now on, our business will go elsewhere!

Worst ever! I should have drove the distance to the chain that i am more familiar with. Service was poor! They had plenty of tables available but customers were waiting because they were taking forever to clean tables. I ordered a side lobster tail, never got it and when i inquired about it, waitstaff said she never wrote it down. My husband received a DRY chicken sandwich that was suppose come with aioli, tomatoes and avocado (they added onion, that wasn't requested). He minused the tomato and they also didnt put any aioli nor avocado. I know some cooks have a hard time cooking steaks well done because they detest it; but serving my 5 yo burnt and basically inedible food is just ridiculous. -will never return!!

This is the worst link in the Outback chain by far. I will never eat here again due to poor management. You can tell the employees try their best but are hindered by the poor corporate structure. Every commercial you see is advertising the smallest portion on the most undesirable cut of meat. The lobster tails are also the smallest pieces they can probably legally get away with calling lobster. It's more like an enlarged shrimp tail that you'll pay around $5-$6 for. The bar has run out of liquor and beer regularly. You never know what is in stock, even if it's a specialty drink. They have actually ran out of Bud and Bud Light in both bottles and draught. I've tried to vent my frustration through the proper channels and was only met with the most pitiful, generic corporate response. Copied and pasted from the email is this response: "It is through feedback like yours that allows us to improve our standards of service and excellence! Thank you again for your input!". Doesn't sound like they care much, does it? My advice is to stay away from this particular location. There have even been cases of catalytic converters being stolen from cars in the parking lot (which is shared with a Walmart). Please choose to eat anywhere else.

Why? Why did I come here??? Why am I so stupid??? Worst 50 bucks I ever spent.

Took my boyfriend there for his birthday. We ordered the cheesy chicken and full slab of ribs, both with fries. Everything was like eating a salt lick. And a full slab of ribs was only 7 bones!!?? Really?? I work at a rib restaurant and a full slab is usually 12 bones. What a rip off. Don't eat here!... They are a joke. Being a server didn't want to complain because our server was great. Just really disappointed with food quality

You know what to expect. Overall good food and a comforting atmosphere. What seperates this one from the others is the management staff and the wait staff. Professional, friendly and is glad you came in.

The wait was unbearable. Was told 30-40 minutes, was 75 minutes. Strike 1. Ordered a drink with lemon, no lemon, strike 2. My food was not bad but the order of steak tip nachos for $6.99 was a joke. It was enough to feed a 6 year old lol. Unfortunately, I have to use up the rest of my gift card.

I used to be such a huge fan of this place. Their food can be good, but they are far from consistent and their quality of service has tanked over recent years. They don't seem to care at all. If it wasn't for their incredible ahi-tuna appetizer, I wouldn't come at all.

Occasionally in ones life a bloomin onion is needed, so off we went. The onion was better than usual, crispy with no puddle of grease on the plate, it went great with a Fat Tire. So time to order entrees. I'd ordered rack of lamb medium rare, and my better half ordered the sirloin medium rare. The lamb was just, just possibly considered medium rare. The sirloin however was still blue and i swear twitching. The manager concurred that yes it was on the low side of rare and immediately took it off the bill. Seems they need to reteach the line on how to cook meats served med-rare,

I don't understand when people try to compare an established chain restaurant to a steak house like Peter Lugar's or Morton's. This ain't that. It's the thing you see on TV ads that has some decent food that is somewhat themed on Australian fare. The Prime Rib here is what I always get. I've had several good ones and one bad one when a waitress put a tail cut in front of me, I looked at her like she was nuts and without a word, she took it back and I had probably the best steak anyone ever had out of this location. I was more upset that she knew that it was a bad cut as much as I did but if I didn't say anything they would have gotten away with selling it to me. This was a few years ago though. This last time in I was happy to have a gift card to burn off so I got the large sized Prime Rib and was happy to see a large selection of tap and bottled beers that didn't have anything to do with Bud, Miller or Coors. So with Sam Adams I went, and all was good. Waitress was very nice, I sat in the bar area at a booth and was swiftly taken care of and couldn't have been happier. Come to the Outback for what it is, not for what you wish it was and you'll have a blast. If you come in with your nose in the air, just go somewhere else and be charged appropriately.

Actually had to leave this outback due to the poor service, long wait, and lack of steaks available. Server took 10 minutes to greet us. 10 minutes to bring us drinks (and we were still waiting on bar drinks). After a 20 minute wait in the lobby and 20 minutes to get waters, the server informs us that they're out of prime rib and sirloin. We just had to laugh and leave.

Ordered steak and crablegs combo and the steak came out with a lot of grizzle. However, the manager replaced it. Thank you.

I'll admit, the food wasn't that great. My steak was super fatty, and my Aussie fries were cold. My waitress, however, was ANAZING. Julie T is the best waitress ever! I was very impressed with my service.

Sometimes when I hit up a steakhouse where a meal is less than $15, (looking at you, Texas Roadhouse) I purposefully order the wrong temperature, assuming the chefs are incompetent kids who have never cooked a good steak... It's not like that here. Great steak, I recommend the wood fire over classic seared. I did have to send my steak back because it was undercooked but, as I mentioned before, that was my own fault. The servers are always nice, ours was Jason at this last visit, and I had a manager or head chef kind of guy give me my steak back. He seemed frustrated but had I been in that position, I just might have been, too. TL;DR Good steak good prices.

Love this place! Their atmospher is great and the servers are always nice as are the hostess's. Food is amazing. If you get curbside ask for Dayna. She is the sweetest woman ever! The parking can suck at times but it is normally pretty busy when I go and I am a frequent eater at this place.

Remembering the Outback as a busy place, our group decided to meet a little before the dinner hour. Saturday afternoon at 4:30 seemed a safe time, and upon arrival saw that the restaurant was around a third full. We were told it would be 10 to 15 minutes before we could be seated. A little hard to understand, but we waited. 15 minutes later, they called us to be seated and were told all they had available was a "half booth, half table" whatever that means. We pointed out all the empty tables, covered with dirty dishes, and were told they had to let all their busboys go. The servers had to bus tables, and they didn't have time. Hostess further told us that she was not allowed to clean tables. We found our own booth in the bar area and offered to bus it ourselves, at which point a server came over and took care of it. This server (I wish I would have gotten her name) was the only bright spot of the whole visit. She took exceptional care of us, from bringing us our mediocre food, to keeping our beverages refilled, to being always available if we needed anything. To recap...no busboys...insufficient staff...ho-hum food...manager who apparently couldn't care less. Any chance I'll ever go back? NONE. Any chance I will relate my experience to others? Every chance I get!

My wife and I frequent Outback Steakhouse. We have since they first opened. Back in those early days the service was incredible. The corporation standards have changed since then, and the service at all Outbacks is not what it once was. However, my wife and I still frequent them and enjoy their food on a regular basis. This particular Outback is not one of the ones we frequent. We have had a history of bad events at this location. This particular time inspired me to write a review. The service was terrible. We spent 90 minutes at Outback in Roseville. There were 6 of us and the place was not crowded on the night we went. The food came all messed up. It was delivered at the wrong time - each of us got the wrong thing at the wrong time. What a jacked up mess. My son's steak was supposed to be medium rare and came out as steak tartar! It was rarer than rare. So he sent it back. Instead of bringing a new steak - they just HEATED UP THE OLD ONE! Really? I've never seen that done. Simply the worst of the worst this time around. Although this Outback is closer to our house, we will go back to our old standard ways - by going to Outback at Hall Rd and Schoenherr. There is a noticeable difference in food quality and service. Honestly, somebody from corporate needs to go have a look at this branch and teach them how to run their restaurant. This was simply embarrassing!!! On top of all of that, my wife accidentally left her phone at the table that night. When we came back the next day to retrieve it - it was gone and a check on our account showed that it was being used.....really? When we left there that night it was near closing time, so we know that no new customers were coming in.....therefore we can assume that an employee took the phone. How sad.

All restaurants need to take notes. They do it right. The food, service, everything. Great place to eat.

I don't know what the problem is with the other negative reviews, I've been here at least 6 or 7 times and have had one bad experience. And that was because they were out of the side I wanted and my steak was bleeding a bit too much for my liking. The service has always been friendly, attentive, and never over the top. In the end, it is what it is. A high volume CHAIN restaurant. It isn't Flemings, nor will it ever be. I won't be coming here for a special occasion meal, but if I want something better than a diner or craptastic Applebee's, it serves it's purpose just fine. Plus, the bread and baked potatoes are PHENOMENAL! I even looked up on epicuroius.com how to make baked potatoes the same way.

I'm not supposed to like this place. I don't eat red meat fer God's sake, it's a dreaded CHAIN, and little annoys me more than the forced faux friendly speak that often goes on at said joints. Well, our hostess was normal, our server sweet and attentive, and the vittles damn good! I was delighted to walk in and feel my pupils widening to the level of something that lives in a cave, as this is the lighting I love. I'd never had a Bloomin' Onion before and was soon captivated by this many-tentacled wonder, dipping into the tasty horseradish sauce like a pro. The chicken quesadillas were juicy, full of flavor, and came with a honey mustard sauce that was somehow a perfect match! My tilapia with crab meat was divine-I've paid more for much lower quality-and our sundae with toasted coconut and strawberry slices was a great finish. Attention was paid to detail, ingredients were fresh. I'm truly bowled over and would certainly go again. Did I want to transplant the food to an elegant little neighborhood Ma & Pa where the servers don't wear shirts with logos? Well, sure. But, like a lovely mirage dancing on hot Australian sand, the food made me forget.

Horrible service! Bad food! We went there the other night. Save your money and go somewhere else. The prime rib was thin and dry the lobster tail was way over cooked, also the steak I ordered so very dry and not very tender and they were ordered med rare. Too top it off . After eating there I was sick that night and in the morning so was the person who I was with. When they first opened they were good not any more! It is more like a social club for the staff, and they ignore the customers .If you want good food and good service don't go there! And if you do go there I hope you don't get sick like we did. You couldn't pay me to go there again!

It's your typical chain restaurant, but it really does not live up to the title of a steakhouse. I'm a huge steak guy, and I've been to places like Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn so I expected outback to be pretty much the same quality as those chains. It's not. I ordered a Rib Eye, rare, and I think it was called "outback style"; supposedly seared on the outside with rare middle. It came out medium-well. A steak should never be cooked anything over medium-rare. The cut of steak was fine and flavorful but they added way too much seasoning. When they brought the bread to the table it was already cold. That was dissapointing. Besides that, the server was nice, prices were average. Overall I wouldn't recommend it.

Seen the ads for the steak and lobster so we decided to check it out. Food was good and cooked to our to our liking. Service could of been better. We never got any bread until we asked for it, then it didn't come until after we had our food. Our drinks and salad came in a timely manner and we were offered refills on our drinks. Overall it was an average experience and would return.

OK so i got an inside tip on Yow to order a steak in a special kinda of way to get a special kinda experience with my chosen meat..steak that is. So this is the deal. I ordered the prime rib, BUTTERFLY IT, MEDIUM-WELL, WITH THE OUTBACK SEASONINGS. So the food arrives...a little tardy and I sink my teeth into...A TOUGH, leather, JERKY ball. NOT CUTE... or tasty. My cousin's was the same. We had to send this back. So after we decided to send it back, the manager came over and..well. ...the waitress had a slight lapse and put in the $8 dollar special not the $20 steak. I'm not saying I'm too good for $8 steak ,but THAT MIGHT MAKE A DIFFERENCE! We finally got our $20 steak, took a couple bites and simply couldn't eat anymore..the hype was over but THAT steak was definitely good. We asked for a carry out and was greeted with, "Well I'm sure you are full after eating 2 full meals." OH NO SHE DIDN'T!! Did the waitress who SCREWED up our orders just make a snippy remark. Well all I have to say is guess who got a snippy tip.

It's a chain restaurant review, so you know what to expect. A business that does high volume; get 'em in, throw together something semi-palatable and send them on their way. Nnnext! I went here out of convenience. It was the quickest choice before heading over to the in-laws for Father's Day/birthday celebrations. Even though they were doing a fair amount of business, we were still able to be seated right away. Now, I know that the hostess *has* to say the inane, forced-enthusiastic tripe beforehand but, holy @#$&!, it is the quintessential awkward dining moment that you can't help but grit your teeth through. Do I blame the hostess? Not at all. I blame the out-of-touch-with-reality suits down at the corporate office that think this is what makes an enjoyable dining experience. She had to say something along the lines of: "So and so will be your server this evening (it was 2 pm!) and I just *know* she will give you the best service! I guarantee it!" Can you see me making the bulimic finger/mouth gesture? Our server was fine. She handled our orders professionally and timely. However, she did have a bit of excitement when she came back to an adjacent table and started asking where her guests, a woman and her elderly mother, went to. She assumed that they had done a dine and dash because the table was empty and had been bussed. In reality, the woman had to accompany her mother to the rest room and the bus staff were being a bit premature with their job. Hilarity did ensue. I'm guessing this is why the manager came around to the tables in the area and gave everyone a $10 off coupon. Meanwhile, the breaded mushroom appetizer arrived and was fair but lacked a crisp outer coating. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with barbecue sauce and vegetables. The chicken was cooked well on the thicker end but, dried out like an old shoe leather on the thinner end. The vegetables were good but lacked any seasoning. My wife's wedge salad and medium-rare fillet was reported as being very good. (Chunky blue cheese dressing and bacon make any salad good.) My final feeling after the experience: OS kind of makes me wish Po' Folks was still there.

NORMALLY the food is good although very pricey! Realistically you can go to any steak house and get a good steak for cheaper then here but, we treat ourselves occasionally!! However, Ive never been so frustrated and pissed off as i was this last time. About a month ago, me and the family (5 of us) went here. The waitress finally gets to us after 5-7 mins waiting for someones arrival. She tells us were all out of shrimp. WHAT?!?! The whole table was disappointed and were seriously thinking about leaving. We decided to stay. As we order an appetizer other employees start putting together a party table. I kid you not they were putting 20 chairs around this table that would MAYBE fit 10! RIGHT NEXT TO US!! I had a chair right behind me, touching mine and 2 on either side of me so if these people wanted to move or breathe i was going to feel/hear it. I asked if we could reconsider where theyre putting they party of 20 or id like to me. A guy arrives at our table, "you wanted to see me?" is all he says. i look at my husband were both kinda confused. I guess were expecting something more professional although at this point im not sure why. My hubby says something to him about it being kinda tight, can we move? kinda thing and i said seriously, why would seat this many people here?! Showing him ill and the people about to be seated are going to be on once anothers lap asking one another to let me out to pee! Serious?! he says "you can skootch out your table a little. Im thinking uh NO.. So i ask to be moved to another table. But seriously, why would you attempt something so rude! When its OBVIOUS it aint going to work. As we leave we look at this party. They took both tables! And they were going to stick them at one!! HA RIGHT!!!

Terrible! We have been braving this dangerous parking lot over 10 years because It was worth the risk (and my husband brings his pistol). Until this year..it has completely changed..still dangerous but now the food and service are awful. All the servers look like they need a shower. It was a blessing that our server rarely came around becuase she smelled liked 3 days worth of cheap perfume. Everything we ordered came out wrong or burnt. I'm not talking overcooked..it was BURNT! Quesadilla, steak, hamburger.... I asked for topping on the side..came on. Asked for lemon..never received. My husbands mashed potatoes looked like they had been left in the warmer for 3 days. My sweet potato was even nasty..how does that happen? The manager noticed our burnt food pile as he walked by and came over to apologize...that was nice but only took off a kids meal. We will never return. I will never return. It was that bad!

I'm not a fan of chain restaurants, but I must confess that I was suckered in by the steak and lobster ads that ran on TV recently and oh boy... I should have just stayed home. I guess I should have known that I'd get a bum piece of meat and a runty lobster tail for under $20, but I didn't think I'd get such poor service. The interior is quite nice, and we went early on a Friday night to a relatively sparse crowd, yet we had to wait 10 minutes for a table when 80% of the floor was vacant. What gives? When we finally got seated, it took another 10 minutes for our server to stop by and another 10 to drop off our drinks. I also asked for the Old Bay lobster and our server asked if I knew what Old Bay is, because most people don't like it... Yes. I know what it is. Yes. I want the Old Bay Lobster. Yikes. Do we see where this is going yet? The food was OK, but the portions were VERY small. I bet I got a 4oz steak and a 2oz lobster tail. The menu was not laid out very well and didn't give a good indication as to the size of the entree. I would have been better off just getting a larger steak, or paying more for an adult sized portion of the surf and turf that I was after. I'm not cheap. I'll pay for good food. But I had no idea that they were serving kids meals. While not a significant jump in quality, Texas Roadhouse up Gratiot will better serve you if you're in the mood for a budget steak. Even if you have a gift card, or are being treated, I would recommend avoiding this place. There really isn't any upside to mediocre food and poor service.

  • Yaki W.

I will never visit this place again and if you don't want to waste your money you shouldn't either. The food came out cold the first time so I sent it back. The second time I couldn't eat it. It was dry and greasy. Then I asked to see a manager, Kristen. She said she would take it off my bill and never came back to check on us. 20 minutes later, we had to track somebody down to try to pay the portion of the bill that my we did owe. Then when I did catch up with the manager to pay her. She just walked off and didn't apologize or anything. The food sucks , the management sucks and never again will we visit the Outback Steakhouse in Roseville.

The absolute worst food and service in all outback history. We arrive to have a small dinner and some sangria. This whole adventure was a failure. The hostesses were rude, they were upset because customers were coming in past 815 but they're open to 9pm. The waiter was aloof at best, he was talking about going to his 2nd job. So basically he took our order, now Segway to this horrible awful food experience, we didn't even order anything complicated. We order a steak medium rare and one medium well, and apparently the food here is awful. We sent the steak back twice, this place is foolishly awful. I would be ashamed to let this go unreported. Just go to mcdonalds it's a better return on investment.

    (1)
  • Heather N.

Well we went for the soul purpose of enjoying one of their delicious sangrias and walked out more than disappointed. We walked in about 10 minutes after 8, and had to wait at least 10 to be seated even though more than half the restaurant was vacant. We were greeted in a timely fashion but it was downhill from there. As I previously stated, we were looking forward to a sangria. Not only did we have to wait at least 10-15 minutes for the bartender to make it. It wasn't even as good as I remembered. I ordered steak and it came with soup and I got the sweet potato. The soup was cold, the server didn't believe me but still brought out another one. My steak was well done the first time but I ordered it medium. When I sent it back, it came out medium rare. I asked for a side of mushrooms, never got them, on either one of the two steaks. My boyfriend ordered the steak and lobster, and was disappointed as well. They didn't even take the lobster out of the shell. The servers were talking by the wait station near our table that people shouldn't be allowed past a certain time because they closed at 9. Our server was complaining to his co-workers that he had to be at his other job at 10. When we complained to the manager, nothing was done. Ive worked in a restaurant for several years, so I dont like to talk to the manager because i know how it is. But im sorry, this was just a terrible experience. They could have at least discounted half of one of our meals since we paid over $50 for food when McDonald's could have done a better job. To say the least, I don't see us coming back here anytime soon.

    (1)
  • Phillip Q.

The cooks in the back didn't make our steaks right. We sent one of the dinners back and they gave us less steak back! Don't go to this location!!

  • Tina F.

Overall a 3 out of 5, but judging on the taste of the food, it was a 4 out of 5.. The potato soup was excellent! Loaded with flavor.. like a cheesy baked potato with green onions on top! Yum!!.. HOWEVER, if you notice in the picture, they gave me less than half a cup.. I ordered a cup of soup.. no idea what they were thinking!! Anyway, knocked off a star for that. The Bloomin Burger was very good as well. I ordered it medium well and it was flavorful and juicy. When I'm in town again, I will definitely go back but will ask for a full cup of soup next time!!

  • Dan B.

The average rating is around 2.5 stars. Makes sense. We had a party of 5, not too overwhelming. We got one loaf of bread about 20 minutes after being seated. Girl ordered a beer that took about 25 minutes to get. We ordered two appetizers, one of which was messed up and even had a piece of wire brush in it. It took quite a while to get the remake of the appetizer back to use. When it did finally come, we almost immediately got our entrees, and immediately after that our soups and salads. The kitchen and waitstaff bombed it. The food was relatively good, for the most part. We had one in our party who ordered a filet and got a relatively flat steak (flatter than my sirloin). I recommended this place based off of my experience at the one on Hall Rd. Never again. If you are feeling Outback, stick to the restaurant on Hall Rd. This Roseville restaurant is severely lacking. It got two stars because it kinda sorta rectified the appetizer issue. But, it isn't enough to go back. Hire better cooks, and more waitstaff. There is no excuse for the service here, nor the steak cuts.

I work in the restaurant industry and have for years. I even used to work at this exact outback for over a year. I never once have complained to a manager, until Saturday. It was by far the WORST experience I've ever had anywhere!! First of all, our server was terrible. I ordered a hot tea to drink which I understand can be a pain in the butt if your busy, however, no lemon?? Come on. We asked for an extra sauce for our bloomin onion twice. I also don't think I should have to ask him for refills on water, he should be asking me. I added on crab legs to my meal and was extremely disappointed when it was cold and had not been cleaned. There were tons of little sea barnacles on them.....and I'm sorry but if I wanted to spend an extra ten minutes cleaning my food, then I would have stayed home and cooked for myself. Gross. When I asked to speak to a manager, he came to the table and never offered to do anything to please us, he didn't even apologize!! A simple sorry would have been fine with me. Then he just turned and walked away. It got even worse when my boyfriends steak had a very large chunk of something inside his steak. He will watch open heart surgery while eating and he has never been so disgusted. He immediately lost his appetite. My steak was also terribly fatty and filled with gristle. Then to finish off the dinner nightmare, our server dropped the check while I still was eating!! Literally had the fork up to my mouth. He couldn't rush us out any faster. By the way I still tipped him 20%. What a waste of 70 bucks. The only good part of this entire experience was the host opening the door for us. I will never go back there again, and will most likely tell everyone I know that outback is terrible all due to this one visit. Oh and I created a yelp account just so I could write this!!

This is a decent Outback, but it is located in a somewhat sketchy area. The rundown Walmart across the parking lot makes you feel a little uncomfortable parking there at times. I don't recall ever having a bad experience with the service, but this location is weird when it comes to the bread they typically give you as they greet your table. We were informed it was no longer being offered unless we asked directly for it and that the servers were not supposed to ask you if you wanted it. Okay... I guess they are trying to cut back on food costs, but to have your servers be so secretive about their bread is just odd. If you don't want to initially bring it in the case it doesn't get eaten and just tossed in the trash that's fine. However they should at least ask you if you want it. Just my two cents on that one. Food quality has dropped over the past year or so. My steaks are usually hit or miss when it comes to the amount of fat and silverskin (chewy shiny connective tissue) on them. It is more on the miss side as of late though. Also they have started to skimp on the amount of dressing they put on their salads. It looks like they cut it in half and it barely is enough to coat the salad properly. The Alice Springs Chicken Quesadillas though are always really good. I mean it is pretty hard to mess something that simple up; chicken, tortilla, cheese, bacon, honey mustard sauce. I am torn on the rating here as I wouldn't go as far as saying this place is "A-OK" and saying "Meh, I've experienced better" is a bit too harsh. Being the nice guy I am and giving the place an extra nudge towards the higher end of the spectrum due to the positive service experiences we have had I give it a three star rating.

  • Leon M.

I had a bad feeling as soon as I walked in. The place was empty and my party had to wait for a table. We ordered an appetizer and it was burnt. We ordered our food and waited a very long time for our orders. The waitress barely came to check on us. It was my first time coming to outback and it will be my last.
