1st time, pleasantly surprised. We ate from the Bar Snack Menu, Shishito Peppers, Mussels and Tap Burger Sliders. All cooked just right. The flavor so were awesome. Just right with a glass of wine. Will return.

Overpriced and not really as advertised. If you go to the tap room simply with the idea that it is a beer hall with a large selection, you will be happy with what you find. However, if you seek anything to accompany said beverage, you will be disappointed. I met a friend for lunch during the week, and a mostly empty building greeted us (we should have taken the hint) this place is in trouble. After ordering burgers ( advertised as fresh, delivered as frozen from GFS) the wait was quite long for an empty restaurant and the service was completely lacking. As far as taste, a frozen burger is a frozen burger, you might as well go to a fast food chain and save yourself the 12 bucks. I usually give places a second chance but I honestly didn't find much worth going back for.

What the heck happened here!? I was back in town and went to go to one of my faves and it was gone. I was shocked to see Rochester tap room in place of the chophouse that was there. Since I drove there I gave it a shot and man this place was such a disaster. While waiting at least 15 min to be noticed, nevermind be sat; I was disgusted with how dirty it was and how the employees seemed to be having more fun than the customers that were there. My buddy and were finally greeted and escorted to a sticky table, and so we moved to another one and same issue. We dealt with it and had a few drinks which were pretty good but the when the food came it was an epic fail. Bland and uninspired. Had high hopes but even the presentation was weak. Thumbs way down

Awesome place! They have unique menu items with a great tap list. Menu's are electronic and have great suggestions intelligence for wine. Those that are not "winos" don't have to trust a server to decide. While prices are above average, the portion size and taste make it well worth it. The owner is also very engaged walking around and asking customers what they liked, didn't like, and ideas. It's like a constant SWOT analysis, makes you feel like a really valued customer.

With promises of '60 craft beers', and '100 boutique wines', I was excited for them to join the neighborhood. Unfortunately, in reality they only have 46/60 advertised beers, and 41/100 advertised wines.. Bathrooms filthy, music WAY too loud to have a conversation, servers look beyond frantic and weeded but manage to somehow be polite. Not shockingly at all, the manager is at a table in the back drinking with his buddies, only making a quick appearance to check sales in the POS before returning to his corner. The food coming out of the kitchen looked great, however we saw almost half of it get sent back, one plate sent back twice.. Sadly, this place doesn't even deserve a second chance. Feel bad for the staff, because the owners/managers could seemingly care less about what's actually happening on the floor. See you soon BFD's!!

Surprised at some of the negative reviews. Several members of my golf league go here after a round and we keep coming back. I love the beer list, the bartenders are excellent, and the times we sat at a table we've had great service. I also haven't had a bad meal here. Love the arugula salad and the grilled cheese (not your mother's grilled cheese!). I added a tomato bisque which was on special one day and it was perfect. I've also enjoyed the sliders, wings, and beef tips. Maybe they had some rough patches in the beginning, but right now it's very good.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was based on the previous ratings!!! At least give this place a chance for a burger and beer. Tap burger was worth it! All the flavors came together perfectly! The salmon pate was delicious, Brussels sprouts poutine: way to go Chef! Brilliant. Waitress was fantastic and SO accommodating and nice. Side salad nice and fresh, chicken and waffles great flavors, Pollo Loco mmmm, flatbreads were a bit of a miss for me, but the presentation was great! I can't wait to go back and try the Scottish salmon, it sounds amazing. Keep up the good work guys, we need a great restaurant in Rochester and you are ALMOST there, I would have given 4 stars because I REALLY want this place to survive, but the manager ruined it. See below. Live music Friday night, nice touch! And iPad menus: holy crap! The pictures and descriptions are really neat, nice touch. Manager was condescending and rude about sewer smelling mussel, he took it off the bill, not the point, they were delicious mussels and we wanted to pay for them: just pull the closed mussels out of the dish, they are dead! Save the terrible attitude for people who aren't paying you Sir, it is hard to listen when talking over people. Nothing has survived in this spot, I really hope this place makes it. Just get a new manager, that might help. People need a good leader and if that guy is rude to customers I can only imagine how he is to his staff. :(

Went there yesterday for the first time. First off, the place looks great. The entire front section was wide open and they put us in a little nook in the back corner, must not have wanted to scare the kids. The menu is insanely simple food wise and while they had 60 beers on tap, the only thing non-alcoholic was gun pop. I saw ribs, and I know I should have known better, but I ordered them anyway. I wish I was exaggerating, but the ribs were honestly the worst thing I have eaten in a restaurant in years. It honestly tasted like nothing, like it's been boiled to the point of it being God awful and tasteless. For saying it was brined in beer for 24 hours, dry rubbed and smoked, yea, they dropped the ball on this one. At $24, I was embarassed ordered it. My wife had the burger and my friends had the sliders, and they said they were OK, so I guess they have that going for them. I'll go back for the beer, but other than that, not happening.

Only here for a toddy. Waitress was very friendly and quick with delivering the drinks. Lots of designer beers. The list is endless. Place is very trendy. Decor very interesting. TVS on sports, not my niche but everyone else seemed glued to whatever was on ....Large munu choices. Next table said their burgers were great, hot and juicey. I'm eating here next time !

Not really sure who listed this as a tapas bar, because that's just stupid. I have had the Taproom burger, the breakfast pizza, the pirogi, the Rochester salad, the sliders and several desserts over a few visits. The food is fantastic. Don't miss the stout-ice cream waffle sundae, made with Rochester mills stout. The beer and cocktail selection is top notch. Their take on a Moscow mule is excellent.

We had a group of people there for my brother-in-law's 30th birthday last night. One of our waiters and management made us leave there with THE WORST and unforgettable experience we've ever had. Charged people twice on their cards for the bill, then voids it on his own. Our waiter and management were very unprofessional. Just really poor in customer service.

The selection of libations on tap is certainly true to its name. There were a dozen or so beers I have never heard of. I picked out a gluten free beer brewed with kombucha tea. It is delicious and quite possibly one of my new favorites! The service is friendly and suggestions were appreciated since they are trying to iron out details. My husband and I had a wonderful time as the vibe is upbeat and inviting! Definitely an asset to the community as great new place to meet up with friends or a super choice for date night dinner. I hope they do extremely well and keep providing the plethora of choices!!!

Everything about this place was just ok. I went her with my wife on a Sunday before memorial day. The place wasn't that crowded, I would say half full. I got the tap room signature burger and my wife got the kale salad. Both were just Ok. I was kind of disappointed in the burger. It was a little over cooked. I asked for med and it was med-well to well, very little pink in the center. For it being their signature I expected more flavor from the beef. The bacon, cheese and mustard were good. But the beef patty seemed like a frozen patty. It was too uniform in in shape and color to be fresh. While they do have a wide beer selection, I think it was overpriced. I got 2 different kind of wheat beers (one was Oberon) both served in a tall glass. If i had to guess, they were probably 12oz glasses. $4.50 and $5.00 for a 12oz draft is expensive. I would expect a pint for that price. The staff was not so great. Our waitress never really came around. She came and took our order, delivered our food and then only came once to see if we were done. Didn't ask if the food was ok or if we needed anything else. I had to flag her down to get the bill. I will probably only come back if a friend of mine wants to check out the beer selection.

I am intrigued to see so many negative reviews this place has already. I felt like it was adequate for what we ordered and had a good experience. now, we went on a Sunday about 3 pm, so there was no wait to be seated and the service was as expected. Draft menu was excellent and the variety of beer choices pleased me greatly. tigers game was on and there are literally TVs everywhere. We ordered brussel sprouts poutine (looked like a mess but tasted awesome), sliders, and a kale salad. I want to try more items here before I throw this place to the wolves. The whole banter about Sysco products being used here - I am not sure I have the authority to offer such slander. I enjoyed our food and loved the draft list. I have been to the previous venues that have failed in this vicinity and I am on the fence as to whether RTR can survive, but I am honestly rooting for them. I am not sure it is fair to compare this place to BFDs. Even though they are both in Rochester Hills they cater to different populations and are on opposite sides of the city.

Not a good first impression. 130 on a Saturday and they only offered brunch. Was seated promptly at a table, but never received service. Waited 8 min. Both tables around us were checked on while we waited. We got up and walked out. Hostess offered to reseat and bring server, but was pretty fed up at this point... Not to mention parking was awful. Sorry tap room. You didn't do it for me today.

I'm so proud of new Rochester restaurants that open up and I rush to them...always excited to give them a great review. I rushed to RTR as soon as I could. As much as I would love to go into detail about what I ate, how it tasted, etc...etc. I'm not going to. Here is my summary. This restaurant WILL go out of business. End of story. NOTHING IS BEING DONE RIGHT on the menu and in the kitchen/service. The most simple business (kitchen and wait staff) concepts are not being followed...and everyone can say that this restaurant space is cursed. Well, it's not. It's the restaurants that just aren't performing. 1. 100% Trained Wait Staff? - Have they tried all the dishes and are they ALL trained to sell them?...Not even close. 2. Are fresh (daily) mad mixes/hamburger patties/ingredients/etc prepared? - NO. Sysco LOVES this place! Sysco is in business because of this place. Why can't you make fresh food each day? Why can't you work hard enough to make a good experience that patrons come beg to come back to? It's short sided thinking and laziness. Yes, it seems profitable and easy. But it won't bring ANYBODY back. 3. Are the breads fresh? Or are they stale and old? They are stale and old. This is the MOST important part of any sandwich. 4. Is the management checking in with their patron tables? NO they are not checking in with their customers. Too much walking? 6. Is the food coming out hot or cold? It's coming out cold. Really? I personally experienced this as well as other posters. The bar? Great!!! I read an earlier review about meeting at the movie theatre over this place which was funny!....because it's true. So, with that said...the owners should eliminate their WHOLE menu and only serve MOVIE POPCORN along with their solid BAR. In summary, all the posts consistently described the same experience that I had. They are mostly ALL accurate. You have a long road ahead of you...owners. Have you ever watched Kitchen Nightmares? Have you ever thought about doing what Gordon Ramsay says? Right now you are doing the complete opposite.

Nice layout, good menu, but terribly overpriced for local beers and is riding the line between a nightclub and a craft beer bar. Seriously, turn down the music. Went to clubhouse BFD and had a better time where you could actually converse with friends.

When "girls just wanna have fun" comes on via the DJ on a Saturday night..you may need a new DJ...terrible! Tater tots were awful. Staff were very friendly. Only came for drinks but did order the cheddar tater tots. Yum, sounds great....they were a horrible soupy mess. The bartender was nice enough to take them off the bill...hence the two stars and the beer selection earned the other star.

Come here for beer, you will not be disappointed ! Like so many beer places, the food is just not worthy of five stars. I visited Roch Tap twice now and like that they offer a happy hour with beer and appetizer specials. My first visit was during opening week for RochTap, i had their spin on potato tots, this was a tasty snack, but I felt the dish was overpriced for its overall size. Last night I had the chicken sandwich, which was good, but sorry to report it was nothing to rave about. But the beers on tap make this place worth visiting.

I really really wanted this to be a 4-5 star experience. Unfortunately I was left confused and unsatisfied to the point where I would recommend meeting friends at the Emagine movie theatre concessions lobby over a medium popcorn and Miller Lite combo vs. dining here again. I guess I shouldn't completely disregard the plentiful selection of Michigan Craft brews and innovative tablet menu with extensive descriptions and food/beverage pairings, but the positive outlook stops there. Of the many appetizer samplings we tried (including the Aged Cheddar Tots, Maple Bacon Chicken Wings and Cauliflower Gratin) the only decent thing was the Brussels Sprout Poutine. The confusing part of this whole experience was how you can get a more complicated dish right but yet fail so horribly on what should be a simple fried potato conglomeration. The Cheddar Tots (but what should be better known as a fried flour-mush masked as a Tot) were served with a Sriracha Ketchup which was sadly the highlight of the dish. We thought we would try our luck with dessert since the bar snacks left us disappointed. To our dismay when we received our Stout Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich, which was promised to be served with a fresh cinnamon Belgian waffle, we questioned not only the carelessness which was the presentation but also the lifespan of said waffle which was bland, flavorless and cold and certainly not fresh. The stout ice cream was lacking in flavor and felt amateur for what should have been chef quality. The only savior was the speculous cookie butter which was likely scraped from a Trader Joes jar and lazily piped over top. If it wasn't for the Odd Side Bean Flicker Coffee Ale I would have left even more unsatisfied after what will likely be a one night stand.

We went on the day of the grand opening and were happy to get a table upstairs. They have a lot of choices on their menu that looked tasty. We started out with the brussels poutine appetizer, which was phenomenal. It's basically fried brussel sprouts with bacon, mushrooms, and I think scallions. I had the veg head "burger" with a side of their house made cole slaw. The veg head is a patty shaped out of quinoa and it was quite good. The cole slaw was nothing to write home about. The helping of it was very small and there just wasn't anything special about it. The beer selection is good and there are other items on the menu I'd like to try, so I'll go back. The service was not good when we went, but I would like to chalk that up to them being new with staff that don't know what they're doing yet. It took a while before anyone came to our table to take our drink order when we first sat down. When we paid our bill, there was a bit of a delay because they said the computers were down.

Went there for opening day so take everything with a grain of salt, those days can be stressful. The restaurant: Nice decor, not overdone, love the tables for standing people to place drinks on, nice idea. The style of the restaurant is a mix between (close-by restaurants) The Hills, The Meeting House and Clubhouse BFD. Tablets as menus, not a big fan. Felt cumbersome to read and get details on anything, poor user experience. I did like how it helped organize the beer though. The feel of the restaurant is toward the 40-50 year old crowd. The food: Top of the list is the beer, great selection, fair pricing. They provided free house made tater-tots (opening day freebie), much appreciated. They consisted of mash potatoes mixed with cheddar and I think bacon, deep fried with a side of spicy ketchup. Probably my favorite part of the meal. For entree I ordered the burger named after the restaurant "The Taphouse". The meat was good quality, toppings and bun were average. The bottom of the bun was soggy, which makes it a gross texture. It came with in-house made (I think) potato chips. Some were good, others were soggy, again not the texture you want. Lastly as a side I had the fried onion chips, they were just bad. Think White Castle onion chips but worse. Way too much breading, over fried to the point of just being tough, thin onions inside that couldn't hold up to the breading. I couldn't taste the dipping sauce vs. the heavy breading. I'd go back without throwing a fuss but I'd pick Clubhouse BFD over it every time.

Good - and should only get Better! Remember... They are a New Restaurant. I've already been several times, over several days, at different times. The 1st time I was there - was within 30 min of their opening. Busy! Tried the Aged Cheddar Tater Tots... [kinda mush] - don't recommend. BUT, the beer selection is plentiful and the staff (given time) will be great. Most have a good attitude and, I can tell, are working to figure out this new system/place to give you a good experience (remember: this place IS new... give 'em a break!) Anyhoo... The Menu - I mean - the physical menu... is an iPad-ish Tablet device. I like that they're trying new ways/tech to serve the customer, but not sure how that's going to shake-out. The batteries in the tablets will only get worse with time/heavy use. So, we'll see. PLUS, it seems, that they only have 1 terminal for the bar staff to enter orders and ring-up tabs. It gets crowded fast And slows everyone down... *fast!* I hope (given their lean toward tech) they'll figure it out soon and add more. So far so good... here's to hoping they get better as they get more in tune with what they're doing and smooth out the new restaurant wrinkles.

Had the Duck. It was ok. Would have been better if the server hadn't completely forgotten to put in our happy hour appetizer. Long story short, it wasn't crowded and full of old people. Beer selection was good. No need for the ipad menu. I would rather go to BFD, they have their #%*? Together.

HORRIBLE FOOD - We stopped in at 4:00 pm on a Saturday when it should be easy to get a decent meal. We were greeted by our friendly un-groomed waiter who appeared to have never been trained in a restaurant based on the rest of our experience. We ordered the Peanut butter and jelly appetizer, Beer Cheese Soup,The Tap Room Burger, The American Burger & The Turkey Burger, along with horseradish coleslaw and brie mac n cheese as our sides. The food actually came out fairly quickly. The PBJ appetizer was served with house-made peanut butter, bacon jam & what seemed like still frozen berries. After we had the PBJ we were informed that the beer cheese soup was out and that the chef never bothered to tell the staff. Next came out the coleslaw.. It tasted as if someone took Arby's Horsey sauce and mixed it with cabbage and topped it off with a few apple julienne's... Then the RTR Burger came out overcooked and without the pickles on top. I ordered the American burger to a medium doneness which came out as an extra-well done dense pre-made Sysco frozen patty resembling a charred hockey puck. The fries were mildly warm, mushy & what looked like the little left over bits in the bottom of the fry bag. No attention to detail by the kitchen staff or our waiter.. The best was when the waiter placed our mac n cheese on the table (see picture), it was dry, flavorless & looked nothing like the description on the menu which mentioned it being creamy and with a breadcrumb topping finished in a 700º oven. I understand that the Tap Room recently opened and I'm understanding of a few opening glitches and bugs, but the lack of attention to detail does not bode well for a business with so many other choices within a few miles.

Bad service, messy bathrooms, and the mentality that you can't do this and you can't do that even though the menu clearly states that you can. The food selection and pricing is at a premium even though the tater tots came out after I finished eating my pizza... Ordered at the same time... Expensive drinks in a subpar location as far as available parking goes (grocery store plus The Hills, and Fitness 19)... They won't last long because they're only catering to themselves, not the community that they look like they serve. Hope a new bar that knows what it's doing takes its place soon after it fails. I'm driving to BFD right now... At least they're more laid back.

here last night with 6 adults and to be honest, not the experience we were hoping for. While the service was okay, by 10p it appeared they had run out of beer. Seriously. everything on the tap list you wanted, they were out of. with nothing replacing it. And no suggestions from the staff, both bar and table. tap lists available both printed and on tablets but they need to work on a way to note which kegs have blown besides the server telling you 6 beers in a row.. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. the atmosphere was "okay" but not great. Loud music and the smell of bleach was in the air. will we be back? maybe. after they iron out the MAJOR issues.

Owners are dicks and don't respect military, the food is sub par. shitty owners= shitty service. Only good thing is the coconut almond beer or the brown witch and hemp. Everything is way over priced even for rochester. You would get better service at the hills.... and the hills was the worst service In rochester before this place came along.

My friends and I went on opening day (3.12.15) around 4pm before the evening rush. We were seated right away given how busy the place was all day. The staff were all friendly, patient, and helpful. The beer selection is good for being in the Rochester area. But the vibe is close a more open version of Penny Black, Clubhouse BFD, and The Hills. It's family friendly and age groups were mostly around the 30's and 40's. They give you a tablet as a digital menu which is easy to navigate through. Later in the evening, the wait for a table increased but there was plenty of standing room scattered around the bar. On opening day, they gave us a free order of aged cheddar tots which were amazing. I can best describe it as a mashed potato ball that has been fried and seasoned well. The waiter explained that all of their ingredients are house made. The ketchup was seasoned pretty well. I ordered the El Pollo Loco sandwich. I never order a chicken sandwich but this one was actually pretty good. The Chicken and ingredients were great and the bun wasn't soggy. Presentation is great which also follows their friendly wait staff and dining experience. Their fries which I believe are hand cut, remind me of the fries from Penn Station, Vinsetta Garage, or Union Woodshop. From where we sat, we could see all the tables around us and what they had ordered. All of it looked really good! Their menu doesn't have a wide selection of food. There is a variety of different things but don't expect a full menu with a million items. The place literally just opened this week, so give them some time to work out the kinks as a few people have mentioned at the time of this review. Down the line, people will grow their interest towards this place. Many will prefer Clubhouse BFD or Hopcat in Detroit, but it's great to see another restaurant with a focus on beer that is open in the suburbs.

I wanted to love RTR. Rochester needed a new, unique spot with great food and beer. Not that RTRs main comparison is getting old, I could go to BFD daily, but change is good. Service was very good. Jon was awesome and the hostess was very nice. We ordered the Crispy Brussels Poutine, Coconut Chicken and Waffles and Maple Glazed Duck Breast with a side of Brie and Crab Mac. Brussels were okay...a little cold when we got them and not many cheese curds. I'd rather cross the border. Coconut Chicken and Waffles was awful. I made better chicken the night after at home, and the spiced waffle tasted like foam. The coconut and Thai chili syrup was way too tangy. If it would have had any semblance of sweetness the dish would have been saved a little. Maple Glazed Duck Breast with Brussels was good, but came out luke warm. Still the best part of the meal. The Brussels were good. It was supposed to come with roasted grapes...I got a small vine straight from the fridge. The Crab and Brie Mac was disgusting. It was cold, and had a really off floral taste and no crab in it. Additionally, the sauce tasted really watery. This place, like a few other newbies in the area, need a lot of work in the kitchen before they become mainstays. Hopefully they tweak some things and figure it out because the space is awesome.

We really liked it. Everything had a touch of unique. I had the ribs my wife had the American and our kids had chicken tenders and pizza. At first glance we could tell the quantities were more than enough. Once we started to eat we were all happy and surprised after reading the previous reviews just how good everything was. We will be back. Plus the kids get to draw on the tables. They loved it.

I also made the mistake of showing up for lunch on opening day. Our server was good, but overwhelmed. We arrived at 12 pm, and at 1:30 we told the server to pack up the food, and we would eat it later. When I looked a t my food- a grilled cheese, it looked and tasted like something off the kids menu. The fries were super greasy and everything was cold. I will not be going back for the $9.00 grilled cheese or anything else.. or for anything of that matter. There are way better restaurants than this one. I would definitely tweak the menu.

I was so excited to finally go to RTR. Have tried several times and with every new Rochester restaurant its the "new cool place"...well this place wont last until Christmas. If you can get through all the people who are standing by the front door you are greeted by the rude host staff. After waiting for 45 minutes (at 5:00) for a table the hostess told us they were so busy that she was actually going to seat another couple NEXT TO US !!!! I told her "that wasn't happening". The music is then so loud we couldn't even have a conversation. You literally have to yell to hear each other. And don't bother to talk to a manager, they are just wandering around looking lost. No one even ask us how our dinner was. They then seem to hurry you by rushing to the table to get your drink order...waitress was a little put off that we didn't have our beer order ready. We ordered our beers and then skipped the minimal offering of app's to get right into dinner. The food was horrible. My date ordered the ribeye steak which was literally all fat. The fries were cold and spongy. GROSS. And my burger was a hockeypuck (ordered it medium). It was a frozen patty that was dry. I got a side salad which was actually not bad, but how much can you screw up bagged salad. We decide to skip desert and wasn't surprised that the bill was high for dinner for 2. I know this location hasn't been good to a lot of restaurants and I was looking forward to someplace new but I will NOT BE BACK.

This place has a great atmosphere and an awesome selection of taps. The menu is aggressive for which I give them props but kitchen execution is poor. Mussels has flavors that did not blend at all... Duck was tough as leather. On a positive note, the Breakfast at night was great. Come for the beer and atmosphere but avoid dinner.

Meh... Went here with a large group for mine and my boyfriends sisters birthday lunch. My side salad tasted like a salt lick... And my ahi tuna sliders were totally dry and bland... Everyone's food was just OK or just plain bad. I so so so so so wanted to love this place, it was my recommendation but unfortunately the absolute best part of my experience was my beer. Please! I want to give this place a second chance and love it!!! Fix your menu and educate your staff on the beer you're serving!!! We asked the server if they had any ciders she said she didn't think so but she would go check... By the time she got back we had already barley navigated the touchscreen menu and found out you had three different ciders on tap!! Oh don't ask for a taste of beer before you decide on one because they charge you around $2 for a taste and don't even tell you!!! The menu was very very pricy for what you get and the quality... Also all the staff looked miserable :( Smile!! I hope this place turns around. Good luck!

Went there on a Friday night with my wife, the service was below average, the waitress couldn't open the bottle of wine and our perciuto pie was the worst thing I ever eaten, very salty, needless to say, I was not impressed.

Nice beer selection, but the pints are small. Food was okay, but nothing special. Certainly not worth what they're charging. Plenty of other bars in the area that do a better job.

Just visited again last weekend and the food was even better (still loving the tator tots and a new fave is the Tap Room Sliders)!!! The craft beer selction is still stellar...I just love sampling their wide variety!! And I continue to be so pleasently surprised with not only how friendly the staff is but how friendly the patrons are. I prefer to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders but the waitresses have been very friendly every time I've come as well when I sat at tables. I'm really surpised to see so many bad reviews here becsuse every time I've come it's been standing room only, which means a lot of people must be loving it like me. They are brand new though so I can only assume that those with bad reveiws experienced some snafus which should be expected. I sure hope this place sticks around becasue on top of loving the people and the food and beer, I just love the ambience. The 2 story windows make it so much brighter than traditional bars and they even have 3 garage doors to open in the summer to create the indoor/outdoor seating that I love! The reclaimed wood from Detroit and 30's speakeasy style is a perfect compliment. I love looking around at the cool nick nacks and experiencing the great vibe from all around! I will definitely be a regular!

I had the chance to visit this place on a Saturday night. I love IPAs and its pretty much all I drink. The first time I ordered an IPA, I got a stout that the waitress claimed was a black IPA. I was very familiar with what I ordered, so knew it was wrong. Second time, I ordered another IPA, I got some fruity belgian sour. The whole evening I felt like a picky asshole customer in front of my friends, but I just wanted some semblance of what I ordered. It ruined the night. They got two other drinks completely wrong at the table. Either the taps there are all set completely wrong or they are just belligerently grabbing whatever has been poured. Not sure they are going to be successful tricking knowledgeable craft beer customers when they call themselves a "tap room", but it is in a shopping center in Rochester so maybe they will be successful. The waitress was very nice and attentive and I could tell she got this a lot from other customers. I had the coconut chicken waffles and it wasn't very good, but at least it was what I ordered. I would have equal luck getting what I want to drink by just telling the waitress to bring me something random. Will not be back unfortunately. This is my first 1 star review.

My fiancé and I waked in and the hostess looked to a family of 7 behind us and asked how many without even acknowledging us. We said we have been waiting 10 minutes. She said oh I thought you were with them, she proceeded to sit us at a table 3 feet from the door when there was ample room elsewhere in the place. I politely asked for another table, which we were seated In front of the kitchen. This did not make me want to order any food, let's just say that. On top of it, my fiancé' s wine glass was filthy! My beer glass has old lipstick stains on it too. The I pads that are given to you serve as a "menu" which made me feel like I needed to wash my hands after handling them. The hostess who had overlooked us can back to our table and didn't even ask to take one of our menus just grabbed one and walked away! Wth! I guess that was a sign that we should leave. This is a poorly re purposed facility that falls short on service, politeness, integrity, class and atmosphere. I will never return.

My family and I came here today right at noon hoping to catch brunch. We missed it by minutes and were told lunch would be starting soon so we decided to try it out. I was hoping to get the grilled cheese that looked great on the menu but we're told they were only serving burgers, salads and apps until 2pm when the full lunch menu would start. 2pm?!?!?!?! Last time I checked lunch started at noon. We couldn't even order sliders. People were leaving left and right when they were told those were the only choices. My Taproom burger was SO overcooked along with my husbands. The Bloody Mary was decent but really small for $9. Overall our $50 bill for overcooked burgers and fries, a beer and Bloody Mary was outrageous and not worth it what so ever. This place has a ton of things to workout still and unfortunately, as of now I won't be back. No one knew what was going on and it was just unprofessional. Ugh. Next time I'll just stick to The Hills!

I've got to say, I'm truly surprised by the negative reviews. For a place that's been open for what, not even a month now, I've got to say, I'm super impressed! Been to the Rochester Tap Room twice now, enjoyed both the Duck Confit silders and the El Pollo Loco sandwich on separate occasions. Found both to be very tasty and well presented and the beer selection is second to none. I can't believe that a diner would walk in knowing a fledgling local small business had been open only a week and destroy it on Yelp while the staff is still getting their legs under themselves. The Tap Room is absolutely white hot right now, with waits up to an hour and a half on weekends. They must be doing something right. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!

My new favorite spot in Rochester. The brunch menu is fantastic and the long list of beers on tap is amazing. I've been a few times on opening week and got great service which is surprising because some places can really lack in that area during their opening. I will be back time and time again!

I SO wanted to give this place a great review! My husband and I ate here when it first opened and then tried again yesterday. While the waitstaff is spectacular, the service is slow at best and the food is just whatever. The first time we stopped in, we thought the iPad menus were pretty cool and the atmosphere is really something. They've completely transformed this place! I had the sliders and I was miffed right off the bat. On the menu, they give you a list of 5 varieties, and say "two per order." I thought that meant I could try two different types of sliders, sort of getting to sample two different sandwiches they offer on their menu. I chose my two (the Taproom and the BLT), and the waiter informed me that you could only choose one variety but that you get two of the same sliders. The sliders are $9 and the burgers are $12. Wouldn't you just fork out the extra $4 to get a normal sized burger? What's the point of getting two of the same? Seemed odd and a little misleading. I wasn't that hungry so I stuck with the sliders. They were decent. My husband had the Taproom burger and he said that it was very good. The second time we ate here was yesterday. What a disaster! We had a fabulous waiter that was very attentive, that was the only saving grace for our dinner. I tried the Baked Brie Mac & Cheese -- YUCK. It tastes like they make a huge batch of it at the beginning of the week, freeze it and reheat it as they need it. It was not good at all. I tried to eat the leftovers today and I couldn't even take more than 2 bites. My husband had the Coconut Chicken and Waffles and he said it was just okay. It was a little cold. My mom ordered the Fried Egg Sandwich and hers was ICE cold. We waited about an hour to get our food after ordering, so she was pretty mad when her food came out cold. The manager stopped by our table to apologize for the wait and the cold food -- their ticket system had gone down and it was holding everything up in the kitchen. He was extremely gracious about it and even took care of the Egg Sandwich, which was very nice and unnecessary. Not sure if I will write this place off just yet, but I am definitely going to wait until they work out the kinks. Looks like a cool place to have a drink when the weather warms up.

Got in pretty quick on the 2nd Sunday they were open. Service was good. the food was ok. I had the ribs and they were ok. They were tender but a bit fatty. Honestly, I like Chicken Shack's much better. My friends thought their food was ok too. Needs some work. I hope it's improved because it's a great location and cute inside.

Went for a late lunch on a Sunday. Great beer selection, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Lots of TV's for sports fans. We split the Brussel sprout poutine, kale salad and sliders along with our beer. Brussel sprouts were delicious...but pretty scary looking. Sliders were good, kale salad was awesome. Great place to enjoy.

I recently visited the Rochester Tap Room with a colleague of mine. While we didn't have a full meal, we were able to try a few taste treats and enjoy the great service of our attendant. I must say the atmosphere was upbeat and service fantastic. We had wings and a specialty 'nacho potatoes chip' treat that was really yummy. I would definitely return again.

We split the ribs. They were very meaty and tender but the barbecue sauce was terrible! It tasted like tomato sauce with mustard added. The chicken wing appetizer was very good but the onion ring appetizer was sparse and bland. The craft beer selection was enough to keep any craft beer lover happy. We'll have to try the burger next time, it looked good.

Very expensive for little food. $100 for family of four with 5 beers. Tried the chicken with waffles was $18 needed to get more food elsewhere to feel full. I'm 5'3. This was upscale bar food with some imagination but lack of quantity.

  • David T.

The atmosphere is good. Industrial look with upstairs balcony and lots of TVs. Service was solid, not great, but good. The beer selection is very good (BFD is better). The issue here is the menu selection and food quality. The menu is way too fancy and seems like they are trying way too hard to be very different. I expected some normal bar food and there was not much of that on the menu. Settled for a bbq chicken thin crust (smoke out Johnny). It was no thin crust and the chicken was dry and had no taste. It was not good, and I did not bring the leftovers home. If you are looking for some fancy and different type of food with a good beer selection, maybe this is the place for you. I did not and won't be back.

The potato chip nachos and the pb&j are Sooooooo yummy! Second time here and so far everything was great! Dawn was our server and she was super friendly and knowledgeable. The food is very creative and fun. Not your everyday restaurant. Can't wait to come back

Went back for a second chance. Unfortunately, like some previous posters, don't think RTR is going to make it. Not sure they get it. Ribs were awful and fries were worse. Not even apologetic about the the poor quality. Until the reviews get better would not go back for anything but a beer. Oh, and the the iPad menus will make a germaphobe run for the hills (pun?)

Listen up folks...and listen good. This place is exceptional, and by exceptional I mean its the type of place you want to eat your last meal. This was my second time dining at the RTR, and I cannot possibly convey into words the quality of food and service. The misses and I sampled several menu offerings from the salmon pate, kale salad, brussel sprout poutine, and the duck. Every single morsel was accompanied by symphonious mmmmmmmms and nods of approval. First let me silence the critics who think they can just come in and order some fried mushrooms and a tall bud light. This isn't a dive bar. This is a sophisticated bar/restaurant with menu offerings that mold flavors from the continental, french, Mediterranean, and Latin cuisines...And they do a damn fine job of it to boot. The menu was carefully crafted to provide patrons with something to satisfy every palate. To the people who cannot wrap their heads around a tablet (digital) menu, welcome to the future. deal with it. It allows the chef and his staff to, i don't know, evolve? Everything you need is at your fingertips, no need to waste time waiting for your server to come around so you can ask him what is in the cauliflower gratin. There's a picture of it, with a detailed description, and even wine/beer/liquor pairings. Aside from a primo beer list, the craft libations are noteworthy. I would argue they can hold their own against the Oakland of Ferndale, or even the Sugar House of Corktown. Believe me...they're that good. Now to compare this to the Clubhouse BFD is an injustice, while operating on the same premise they are completely different restaurants. BFD is a beer drinkers Mecca that provides guests with a decent menu to accompany the novice to the expert beer drinker. Now RTR, on the other hand, provides guests with more of a restaurant feel, with a more diverse and intriguing menu. They have better cocktails. They have a better wine list. They are not specifically centered around beer. Its apples and oranges. Service was attentive and friendly. We sat at the bar and the bartender and bartendress introduced themselves immediately and willingly offered up recommendations upon request. What more can you ask for. I applaud the proprietors and the executive chef for there was a tremendous amount of careful planning that went into this operation personified through precise execution. Well done. Sincerely, RTR Patron

I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant. We went for Easter brunch. We had 12:30 pm reservations and were seated at about 12:15. They handed us the fixed Easter menu (wish we would've gotten a heads up about that when I made reservations). It was 4 courses for $25 which sounded like a great deal based on how appetizing the menu sounded. After about 25 minutes, we had ordered and were finally served the "pre" course of jalapeño muffins and cinnamon donuts. They were delicious but we only received enough for 3 people. There were 5 of us. The waitress that dropped them off had said she would run back to get the rest. We never saw her again. Our waiter was very prompt to check on us l, clear dirty dishes and empty glasses and bring drinks (except my moms decaf coffee we had to ask for about 3 times). Finally at about 1:10 we got the first course, which was only yogurt bowls and oatmeal. It tasted fine, but it's not like it required an extreme amount of prep work or cooking, especially with a small fixed menu. We had to ask twice for spoons. Considering all 3 of the options on the first course required spoons, there was a definite lack of planning. At about 1:35, we realized it had been almost 1.5 hours and we had eaten a muffin and small bowl of yogurt. The table behind us had asked to speak to the manager no less than 3 times with no luck. We asked the same as we were starving and way past frustrated. Our waiter said he would try but he had asked the manager to come talk to the tables already and wasn't having any luck. At 1:45, our server said our 2nd course was ALMOST ready. About then, the manager finally took a minute to stop by. We informed him that we were hungry, extremely disappointing and leaving. He (half-heartedly) apologized, but took no steps to rectify the situation. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years, I understand that things can go wrong. However, for service to be that slow with no support from the management is inexcusable. The waitstaff had absolutely no support. The management team did not try to solve anything. I, at the very least, expected the offer of something to take home or an offer to bring us back on another day when their service might not be running hours behind. The lack of response alone is reason enough for me to never return. I really had high hopes for this new restaurant but would rather spend mr money elsewhere.

Went to RTR and enjoyed our beer selection at the bar. However, the new and exciting experience ended there. They had 3 bartenders for the 4 couples at the bar and still they messed up my wife's order. The food looked and tasted NOTHING like the photos and descriptions on the tablet. When I went to cash out the wrong items were on the bill. Very frustrating to say the least. Tough to pass on all the restaurants and bars downtown Rochester has to offer to come here and be disappointed.

Having worked in food service before, I was trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt since they are brand new, however there were way to many problems right off the bat. Enough problems to make me create a Yelp account just to submit this review. I was seated at one of the two tables where you can see into the kitchen. This seems like a neat idea, however when you can see the staff doing many disgusting things, it doesn't leave you feeling hungry. I ordered the club sandwich and then saw it sitting out in the kitchen for 30+ minutes while the rest of my parties food was cooking. The coleslaw was also sitting out on the plate in the hot kitchen this entire time. So when my food finally arrived, the bread was soggy and the coleslaw was warm. I was at the Tap Room celebrating a friend's birthday, therefore I didn't want to make a big deal about the food, so I tried to eat it an have a good time. After the meal, I was debating whether or not to speak with the manager, since again, I didn't want to make a big deal at my friend's birthday celebration. I went to the bathroom and saw that the managers office happens to be right next to the bathroom and the door was open. I figured this was the perfect opportunity to duck in a not make a scene. I poked my head in and asked which one of the three people in the office was the manager and was directed to speak with a blonde woman. I explained my situation and suggested that maybe she at least speak with the kitchen staff about not putting coleslaw on the plate until the food is ready to be sent out to the table. I was offered no apology and was told, "you know that this won't hurt you", in a very rude manner. I was not pleased and made my decision to never come back right then. I did figured that the manager was right about the food 'not hurting' me, it just wasn't as good as it could have been or worth the money. However, the funny thing (not so funny for me) was that on my drive home, I started to feel hot and sweaty and nauseous. I then threw up several times throughout the course of the night, which leads me to believe that items used to make my order must have been sitting out much longer than the 30+ minutes that I saw them on my plate in the kitchen. Several other things to mention: 1) Waitress was inattentive and unfriendly. Had to chase her down to get a water and silverware. 2) Bathroom was a mess. Toilet paper all over the floor but none left in two out of three stall dispensers. 3) After speaking to the manger and returning to my table, I could see one of the other two people who were in the office with the manger when we spoke (and obviously heard the whole conversation). He was now in the kitchen sticking his hands into various bowls, eating the food out of them, licking his hands and going back for more. This guy was obviously higher up within the management chain, so I assume that things will only get worse with the entire kitchen staff, based on the example this guy was setting. All in all, a terrible restaurant experience. I will never be going back.

Wanted to check this place out. and the atmosphere was really cool. Each table has a tablet for a menu, and the variety of beer and food is pretty solid. However, we went to order a flight, and the waitress came back to tell us 3/4 beers that we chose were out. The food was higher end bar food, and the menu was spiced up, containing different items than you'd see at an average bar. However, the service was not good at all. We had to wait for the waitress to return to request plates an silverware after our pizza was dropped off, and had to go up to the bar to refill our waters. Has potential, if only the service was better.
