Not very impressed so far. Stood in the isle while the hostess debated on which one of the open tables she wanted to seat us at then waited over 8 minutes to be treated by our server...he has one other table. Had high hoes for this place but it's crashing and burning pretty quickly.

I was in town for a wedding for the weekend. After walking through the quaint downtown area of Rochester we saw the Chop House. Once you walk inside you are transported to a traditional city steakhouse. Large leather booths, characteurs along the walls, and some taxidermy too. The food was delicious. The James Beard NE claw chowder had the title for good reason. The fried calamari was delicate and flavorful. And the stuffed portabello caps with cheese were outstanding. We split the twin 4oz filets topped with Alaskan King Crab were the steak house staple I wanted. Tender filet, good amount and quality crab was the perfect entree. In addition, the strawberry and rhubarb cobbler served with ice cream was the perfect combination of sweet, tart and tasty. This all went down nicely with the Padrillos Malbec, smooth yet heavy for a Malbec and able to stand with the hearty meal. Our server, Jeremy, was wonderful as well. He was polite and personable with knowledge of the entire menu. He had knowledge of the local area too. He suggested to us the Arts, Beats, and Eats festival in Royal Oaks. Just a 25 minute ride later we capped off the weekend with Young the Giant concert. Great establishment with excellent food and a welcoming staff. Enjoy!

I went here on a Sunday with my wife, my mom, and my dad to celebrate my wife's recent promotion and my new job. This is a tradition that we have in my family-whenever I get promoted or get a new job, we go to Rochester Chop House for the Excalibur Steak. My dad was nice enough to pick up the bill, so I'm not sure what the total was, but this place is definitely expensive. I believe my Ribeye steak was $30. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and friendly, but he was an odd duck. When we were seated we watched a food-runner bring food for the table behind my parents, then our waiter came over to our table to introduce himself and take our drink orders. After he wrote the drink orders down he served the other table their food that was likely lukewarm at best. We were appalled at this and it was easy to tell that the people at the other table were confused as to why their food was sitting there getting cold in the middle of the dining room. We placed our orders and soon our food came and once again we watched food sitting in the middle of the dining room getting cold. I was pretty close to serving the food myself. Finally our server served our food, the steak was just a little above lukewarm, but the vegetables were still warm. The food was delicious and the steak was a perfect medium. The manager came over to ask us how things were going, we said things were fine, but he had come to us before we stared at our food getting cold in the middle of the dining room with our mouths watering. This just seems like poor management to me-get your wait staff in order and bring us some hot food for Christ's sake. The food is expensive and we work hard for our money. Since the food was tasty, this place gets 3 stars instead of 2 stars. It's a good thing I only get a new job or promotion about every two years. If we were regulars and we received this kind of treatment, I would probably have lost my mind. I came here once on St. Patrick's Day several years ago and my buddy bought one of everything off the menu for everyone at the table. We were pumped to eat like kings, but the food was cold, which gave it a strange texture. That was extra terrible because it was seafood (lobster, clams, shrimp, and crab). Cold seafood is gross.

Good seafood in a mid to upscale environment. Staff was attentive and our waitress was especially entertaining. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, seared. It was a little pricey at $33 and change, but a nice portion and cooked perfectly. Lobster Mac n Cheese was a little bland, a lil salt helped. Side of veggies were not a go either. We ordered apple martinis and the what returned was pink. Apparently they add cranberry juice to their recipe. Very unexpected.

Awesome food and service. James is an awesome server..,giving us great suggestions and the "low down" for our first visit! We both had filets..and both excellent and as we ordered with no grumbling about well done steaks, Our only complaint was the noise level and congestion..though not enough for me to reduce my rating

Had no intentions on coming here but ended up trying it and it was amazing. Everything was delicious. Seafood cappetilli had all type of seafood I was craving. Had the orchard martini which was delicious and topped it off with the crepe puff dessert. Everything was great. Staff was so kind.

We went there last Saturday for our anniversary. We had a reservation. First of all, they tried to seat us at a small, crummy 2 top table. Since we had a reservation & we are senior citizens& there were plenty of other open tables, I asked for a different table, which they did. We both ordered the special, char- grilled copper river salmon. I didn't think the salmon was char grilled and both of our pieces were over-cooked & dry. This place is not inexpensive and for what they charge, they should not be serving over cooked dried out salmon. They used to be a top notch restaurant, but not any more.

Went here for my wedding anniversary with my husband. The wait staff was very friendly and, really, some of the best steak I've ever had. That being said, the menu isn't large. You'll be very disappointed if you want something other than steak or seafood. But, why go to a steak house if you don't want steak?

The Rochester Chop House has become one of my favorite "go to" restaurants over the years. Consistently great food and service along with fresh fish offerings is what you will find here. If your not looking for a full dinner / meal the try Cabin Cruisers which is their bar area at the front of the establishment facing Main Street. It has the ambiance of an East Coast raw bar- pub that offers fresh oysters, mussels, shrimp, etc. A great place to sit at the bar and sip a good cocktail or beer and enjoy a dozen or so of fresh oysters. I don't give many places five stars but this place deserves this top rating.

The recipe described by Sparky resulted in nearly perfect pan roast. Even the boyfriend, a reluctant seafood eater devoured two servings. Thumbs up. Thanks, Chophouse! I'll be back for the "real deal" when I visit the parents.

My overall experience was wonderful. They provide great service and have a nice variety of entrees to choose from in their menu. I especially enjoyed their bread and dip appetizer. The only thing I did not like was their Swordfish special. It came with noodles. I didn't like how the noodles tasted, I felt like I was eating soggy wonton noodles. Wasn't my thing. BUT their frog legs are bomb diggity!

Every Michigan Christmas I look forward to having a pan fried perch dinner. Except our favorite perch place was transformed into a grill restaurant. On our last day we discovered our new "home" at the Rochester Chop House. It was more than what we expected. We started with their crab cake which was served with the perfect sauce, red clam chowder and a Caesar's salad. The perch was perfectly pan fried served on a bed of mashed potatoes served with lemon wine butter sauce. Decor and the friendly service made me feel right at home. We'll certainly be back come Xmas 2015.

I went to Rochester Chop Hourse for my birthday last weekend with my boyfriend and I could not have celebrated my birthday at a better place! Our waiter (Brandon) was excellent and so kind and helpful, the service was great, and as busy as they were, the manager still came to our table to make sure everything was going well. I do recommend if you dine at Rochester Chop House to make reservations prior to because it does get packed for dinner time. We made reservations for 7:30 and the seated us immediately! We started off with a dozen oysters which were just phenomenal! They were so good I wish we ordered more. My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip and I ordered a filet dressed with crab and with mashed potatoes. I can honestly say that my filet was cooked to perfection. Usually, when I order a steak medium anywhere else, it never comes out medium! The steak was juicy and tender and I cannot wait to go back just to get that steak again. The only downside is that it is a little claustrophobic especially during dinner time BUT that will not stop me from going back, that's for sure! Go to Rochester Chop House if you like good food in a cool city!

Very traditional steakhouse but everything on the menu is extremely well prepared. I've never been disappointed at the Chop House. Love the filet and seafood items as well as the oysters and the wine list. If you haven't tried the bean salad that comes with the bread, you're missing out!

Call ahead on the weekend. This place is always great. Their zip sauce is one of my favorites. Good wine selection and friendly servers. A little bit more than most spend on a night out, but if you can spare a little extra it's worth it. The filets are great along with the salads.

My husband and I went there last night for dinner. I was not impressed. My fish was greasy and I received three tiny fingerling potatoes on the side that were literally boiled in water and put on a plate. My husband ordered steak and it arrived rare. The waiter acknowledged the kitchen heard him say the wrong thing after he brought it back a second time. Now the only difference was the outside was darker. But inside it was still way too rare to eat. By the third time they brought it back, I was done with my dinner and the steak was now black on the outside and basically dried out on the inside. It looked like something a dog spit out. You'd think instead of giving him something totally burnt they would have cooked a new steak for that kind of money. He couldn't even eat all of it bc parts were too burnt. The waiter never comped his meal, and for this reason we won't be back. For an 87$ bill, and the state of his dinner I felt that was bad business. I don't mind paying 87$ when the meal is worth it. When you get a small greasy piece of fish with three small potatoes and your husband's steak is sent back multiple times and then served black and dried out that's unprofessional and shows laziness on the kitchen and management team. Clearly the chef has no pride in what he sends out.

Was not very happy with the food. My steak was for sure not medium. I'm a chef so I know how the food was suppose to be, this was my second time eating there, first was years ago, I'm not sure if I will be back.

Spectacular place for a steak! I've been here a handful of times and each time I get a steak. This time I got the filet with sun dried tomato blue cheese injection. I had it cooked at Medium Minus. It was fantastic! The meat melted in my mouth. My wife had the filet with crab on top and hers was delish too! All our veggies were cooked well too. Our waiter was good. He keep the salad plates cleared after we finished them, kept the water glasses full, and overall helpful on explaining the menu. I think the chef's could have been a little faster at cooking the meal, but perhaps you can't rush perfection! The prices here are always high but we only go on special occasions.

Had dinner there last night. It was mostly underwhelming. I ordered the swordfish (medium) and my husband ordered the Delmonico steak (medium rare). Both were overcooked. His steak was also cut much too thin and had loads of fat on it. I had a very bland glass of house Cabernet for $8. My husband had a nice glass of Bordeaux that was listed at $9 but we ended up being charged $14 for it. The free bread basket with bean salad was good, a nice twist on the ol' dipping oil. The sides that came with our main courses were ok - though they are very liberal with the cream and cheese, and my side salad of tomatoes, lettuce and fennel was tiny: about 2 square inches altogether. Seriously. The service was good - our waitress Michelle was pleasant and attentive. Our bill ended up being 98.00 and we both decided that we wouldn't be coming back.

Love going here for happy hour. Lot's of app.'s for $5.00. The oysters are always fresh and tasty. I love the bread and salad. Sometimes the service is iffy. I always sit at the bar and expect good service. That's just me...

Have been a fan of the Rochester Chop House almost since it opened, didn't get there often, work etc. Well retirement changed that and it is almost our favorite "special" dinner place. Tonight celebrating "late" my birthday, hubby took me there. What a memorable Dinner! I started with the special. Pear martini, hubby had regular. Shared the Chop House special calamari, then both of us having one of the nights specials, lobster, crab, tenderloin, with mushrooms and butter mashed potatoes. What a triple header that was. I had heard through the years, don't order meat In a seafood restaurant and never paid it any mind, good thing, I would have missed out on one of the best dinners I have had in a long long time. JAMES. Our waiter was wonderful, discrete, quick, and so very very nice. We would go back for James alone I think, no but he is terrific, ask for him. The food is not to be denied! It is succulent, so fresh the fish are almost still swimming. The chef is spot on. Highly recommend you try. This is a Wednesday night and the place was crowded, They have a piano player and he has quite a repertoire. Can you tell it was a memorable night?

Had a late night meal. Waiter was awesome...happy, helpful and energetic. The food came out quick...tasted good. East Coast raw oysters were fresh. Of course the bill was a tad high...however, if you like the extra free salads, sides, their restaurant across the street offers that. Great decor and good crowd on the weekends. Will do it again.

Ben there twice both times disappointed with the food. First time lobster was raw, not just mine but 2 others at the table. Last night asked for my steak medium rare and received it rare, here again not just mine but 2 others. I also find it noisy and I don't like the fact you have to go to the middle of restaurant next to the bathrooms to wait for your table. Found it to be on the pricey side for the way they cram you into the restaurant. I did find the wait staff outstanding. Food was fine after cooked properly

First time at the Rochester Chop House and it was a a good experience. It is a quaint, romantic location. The wait was not bad as we had reservations. The food was great. I had the Filet. It was tender and seasoned well. I also had Asparagus, potatoes and a salad. The meal was excellent. This is a great place for an anniversary, special occasion or date.

We unfortunately had a less than desirable experience here recently. Over the holidays we had a group of friends (6 couples) make reservations for a dinner to catch up. While the food on the whole was quite good (a few steaks were cooked inconsistently) we were very disappointed in the treatment we received from management. Our waitress waited until the end of our meal to tell us that the bill couldn't be split as we should have asked at the beginning of the meal (something you would think would be an automatic question by a waitress at a restaurant of this level given the number of people in our party). However, that was not nearly the most disappointing part. As we then worked to split the bill, management made comments to our table TWICE that we needed to leave as our 'time was up.' Apparently they had set a limit of two hours for our dinner when the reservation was made, which I can't attest to given I did not make the reservation, however I find myself wondering how they expected to get a party of twelve people through drinks, appetizers, soup/salad, entrees and possibly dessert in two hours. Perhaps that would be possible if we were at a lesser establishment, but that isn't the experience people come to the Chop House for. I'd also like to note that when they came to yell at us a second time our waitress had our credit cards and was in the process of cashing us out. You'd think they might have checked with her before insulting the customers again, but I guess not. Overall, it seemed to be an unrealistic requirement from the beginning, which then was reinforced aggressively and completely soured our experience. For a table of twelve friends who get to see each other once a year, who were not bothering other tables and had a bill well over $1,000, I will not be returning to the Chop House again, and I will certainly be sharing our experience with others in the area as well. Shame on you Chop House.

Great for a special occasion. The chophouse is in the back despite the misleading signs. Don't order the lobster its Michigan so the seafood freshness is questionable. Do order steak it is delicious. They also have a really great wine list with generous pours. Take your time at the beginning and enjoy the complimentary and tasty bread and bean salad.

I have been wanting to go here for some time and finally, a special occasion rolled around (birthday) so we went. This was a top notch meal. Mussels were perfect, coleslaw and Caesar salad were also great. The delmonico was great as well as the filet oscar. Everything was priced as fine dining but we will return as long as it doesn't change. Service was also wonderful with a very knowledgable waitress. She had the piano play happy birthday as she brought our dessert out. The only thing I didn't like was the creamed spinach. Little boring. If you have a special occasion, go!

Have you ever been to a new restaurant and when you leave you can't stop thinking about it? This was that place for me. Put it like this... My wife and I went to The Cheese Cake Factory the next day, which we both love and it just didn't do us justice after the night at RHC... I have been to many different restaurants especially steak places and I have to say this was the best steak I have had, period! I've been to Ruth Chris and don't get get me wrong, it was great but not in comparison to this place... Rochester Chop House is number# 1 on my list. Not to mention a fun atmosphere. It was very busy (in a good way) but the wait staff was very courteous and professional. My wife and I were very pleased with our waitress (Christina) who was excellent. She was able to answer any questions we had and she never forgot about us. She was very pleasant and made us feel comfortable, understanding it was our first time there. I hope the next time we go, she is our waitress or we have someone just like her! She should get a big tip everytime. The sides were delicious as well and each side was good enough to be eaten alone. Definitely try the hash brown's w/blue cheese... I don't normally write reviews just because I forget to but this one needed to be written. It cost just over $100 not including tip and we drove an hour from South Lyon but it was well worth it. The attire is business casual and yes you need a reservation because it is nonstop traffic... Oh yea! by the way, when you try the steak ask for the zip sauce! Amazing!!!

Awesome dinner. Great for special occasions or just going out for dinner! My kids love this place! They love the bread basket and beans! Not to mention their 4 oz. filet The Chop House has good service and delicious, freshness meals. Great wine list. A favorite of ours for decades! So great to have it so local to us. Plus, they have a wonderful salad-Martha's

We made a reservation for five o'clock (right when they open) on a Friday night. Sat right away and had the most amazing waiter (Gil) who knew the menu inside and out and was super personable. We ordered the New York Strip and Lobster and a Delmonico, the Asiago cheese potatoes, creamed spinach and green beans. Everything was amazing. Their house salad was also amazing as was our appetizer of grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon with bbq sauce. The bread on the table and the bean salad...also amazing. Our drinks were never empty. As soon as we took our last sip they were promptly replaced with a full glass, almost before we sat them back down on the table. An empty plate didn't sit on the table for more than a minute before it was whisked away. Not only was the food remarkable but the service was incredible.

The hubby and I went for our anniversary and I have to say it is my new favorite $$$ spot. We arrived late(r) on a Saturday night, say about 8:45 and there was quite the buzz in the air. As another reviewer mentioned, it can get rather loud between piano and conversations over it, but by 9:15 the place started to pipe down a little. Our waiter, I think Jason was his name, was very helpful in recommendations. I had a seafood stew and my husband had a steak. My stew was VERY tasty, even the next day. The calamari was VERY tender and the mushroom soup had tons of flavor but not overly salty. They have a good selection of wine and carry my husband favorite IPA. The ambiance was cozy as from where our small booth was, it didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house.

This fine dining establishment is one of the best in Oakland county. I've been a few times and was impressed on each occasion. Service and food quality is outstanding. I've had some more elegant and creative dining experiences, but this place is a favorite near my neck of the woods.

But anyway, The food and service is fantastic! Every time Ive been, not one complaint. Food is beyond expectations! and Service is wonderful.

The chop house is just amazing. Great food, impeccable service. This is where I go when I have had a rough day because I know they will treat us right.

Was craving a really good steak and steak-house style food. The good: Great wine selection, the waiter suggested a great glass. The tenderloin (medium-rare) was cooked to perfection. The so so: The service was extraordinarily over attentive. We were there early (5pm) for dinner and it was fairly slow, so the waiter, hostess, floor manager and one other person came to check on us all in the matter of about 15 minutes after we got our food. We were trying to have a nice conversation and dinner. It felt very overwhelming. The hashbrown casserole had a lot of cream and tasted watery. The side sauces that accompanied the steak were not very good (I tried Excalibur and zip.) Not sure the perfectly cooked steak is enough to bring me back. Compared to other local chop houses, I found the sides and ambiance lacking.

Great food and a neighborhood gem in Downtown Rochester. Steaks and seafood are equally amazing. Not a ton of standing room to wait, but that's about my only complaint. The cheesy hash browns as a side dish are a must!!!

Fabulous food! Had a wonderful dinner here recently. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a 4 course fixed price menu you can order from which was well worth it! The food is fresh and delicious. Be sure to make a reservation because they get busy.

My wife and I had a date night at the Chophouse, but decided to stay at the oyster bar for no specific reason. Our friends gave this restaurant wonderful reviews. I will admit food was incredible but for some reason bartenders had a competition to see how fast they could get out our 3 course meal out?!?!?!? We ordered for 3 courses and expressed to bartenders each course, maybe I should have been more specific but when both of us ordered chowder, how is this not a set course? Our oysters came first, then 1 minute later my mussels, then right behind her was the other bartender with our chowder?!?!?! This is a depressing review but what were the staff thinking. I really doubt we will ever go back. Just too bad.

Delicious dinner here while spending one night in Rochester for work. I ate baked pesto oysters which were ri h and flavorful. Ate the perch for my main dish- since perch is local to the Great Lakes. They were flash fried and served with a lemon butter sauce. The ambiance is great. Feels like a Midwestern hunting lodge. Elks heads on the wall and plush leather booths. The waitstaff was friendly - and great bread basket too.

My wife turned me on to the RCH back in 1997 for my birthday dinner... 17 years later, we're still going there for my birthday, her birthday and our anniversary. The food/ambiance/service/buzz there is always impeccable, but is surpassed by the owner/operator whose found us a table a number of times when we didn't have a reservation. This same manager recognizes me every time I go there and never fails to say hello, as if to communicate, "I appreciate you being here". Service like this is rare. You won't ever be disappointed at this gem of a restaurant.

Dined here with family for the first time and we were very happy we did. Great staff, great food cooked by people who care. The Delmonico Steaks were presented beautifully and were delicious. The vegetable and potato side dishes were uniquely prepared and tasted great, as did the French Onion Soup. Great experience!

We dined here in celebration of my 25th birthday. My husband had the Lelanau Rainbow Trout and I had the Crab Cakes. Everything was pretty good! However, our cocktails were majorly weak, we got a tray of waters dumped on us and my rice pilaf had nuts in it with no mention of it on the menu. I am severely allergic - so if you are too make sure your rice doesn't contain nuts before they bring you your dinner. The reason the Chophouse gets four stars is because the Sanders Cream Puff we ordered for dessert was UNREAL. It was as big as my head and it was beyond delicious! My husband and I couldn't even put a dent in it together. Also, service was very fast despite it being packed on a Saturday night.

It's a good seafood restaurant. Not top shelf but in the casual dining sense it's a great choice. Make sure to try the James beard awarded clam chowder.

I simply cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I was here as part of a wedding party; our rehearsal dinner was held here, and our 24-person group had the upstairs area reserved. First of all, that setting made it feel like we had a mini-restaurant to ourselves. There were bathrooms up there, great decor, an hors d'oeuvres table set up just for us. Our servers were FANTASTIC. Got everything right, were friendly and funny, put up with all of our jokes and pre-wedding giddiness, and made the night go so smoothly. And then, the food. THE FOOD. We had a somewhat limited menu, chosen by the groom's parents, just to make things easier, I'm sure. Also because pretty much everyone wanted steak, anyway. I got the pan-roasted chicken, which was delicious and perfectly cooked. Also, the Kabin Kruser salad with its key lime dressing was fantastic (and it's not like you usually remember/remark on the salad from a steakhouse, people). As for the steaks, the conversation during the entire meal featured exclamations from various places around the tables of, "This is a *really* good steak!" So that should tell you something. Perfect sear, perfectly cooked at whatever level was requested. And the food for all 24 of us came out at the same time, piping hot and perfect. How is that possible?!? Highly recommend. We had a great time as a large group, and I have no doubt that this place would be perfect for smaller groups or romantic dates or whatever else suits your fancy. The steaks are top notch, but they do everything else so well, too.

I was a little nervous to go to a work luncheon at this location, because every item (save one salad) had meat in it, on it, or was just a huge slab of meat. I asked the waitress if they could put something meatless together for me, and they were able to accommodate ON THE SPOT. The 302 House Salad (sans bacon) was delicious, the blue cheese on it was perfect. The chef put together some seasonal veggies on angel hair pasta, and it was seasoned perfectly. I had an espresso (delicious as well) and creme brulee for dessert... I am happily stuffed!

My boyfriend and I came here last Friday to celebrate our anniversary. We made reservations a week prior, and arrived 15 minutes early. Walking in through the front, we were greeted by a hostess who led us to the Chop House in the back. The only complaint I have about this restaurant is how tightly packed it is. With how packed it was on a Friday night, coupled with how close together the tables are, it made it difficult to walk through. The hostess led us to the end of the hallway, and then told us to go around to find the hostess in the back. Luckily for the signs and arrows pointing to the hostess stand, we were able to find our way. We were immediately seated by the second hostess at a cozy table for two next to a bunch of booths. Although there were only three tables (for two people) one after the other, it was difficult to sit comfortably. (once you sit, you're literally at the back of the person behind you- so it was a tight squeeze). We were greeted by our waitress Amanda shortly, who handed us our menus, dropped off bread and the bean/corn/tomato/onion dip, and took our drink orders. The dip was absolutely amazing! (And I don't even like beans!) We also enjoyed the bread. My boyfriend and I decided to order the Calamari appetizer, and we each ordered a Filet Mignon. Our steaks came with a potato and vegetable, and I opted for the Asiago Hash Browns and Creamed Spinach, while my boyfriend got the buttered mash potatoes and asparagus with a cream sauce. We also decided to pay extra for sauce - I ordered the zip sauce, recommended by Amanda, and my boyfriend ordered the Excalibur style (recommended by a friend). The calamari was tender and not overly breaded, which was what I loved about it! I would probably prefer a different sauce than the lemon caper beurre-blanc, as I did not taste any lemon flavor to it,and it was a bit salty for my taste. My boyfriend, however, enjoyed it a lot. Shortly after, our steaks and sides arrived. We both LOVED our filet mignons! They were so buttery and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I've never tasted a steak that delicious before, so props to the chef who made our steaks! We both ordered them medium, and it was cooked perfectly! I highly recommend the zip sauce. It's amazing! My boyfriend loved his excalibur style, which he said tasted like a bbq sauce. The asiago hash browns were good too, and the creamed spinach was kind of bland, IMO. We were so stuffed from dinner that we decided to scratch our original plan to order the cream puff, but to our surprise, Amanda brought out a complimentary mini cream puff dessert to share for our anniversary! Even though we were stuffed, we forced ourselves to finish it. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Amanda was very attentive and helpful with recommending dishes, and the ambiance was very romantic. Food was delicious as well. The complimentary dessert for our anniversary was a nice touch, as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others!

Expertly prepared steaks. Excellent wine / alcohol selection. Superb side dishes and desserts. The only negative is it gets really crowded. But if you know good food, which many of you people on this site reviewing DONT, this is a place to get it. Never a let down. I even took my fiancee here the night I proposed.

Great happy hour. We sat at the bar in the front had had a few drinks and some of the best appetizers. The flash fried calamari could be the best I have ever eaten. Oysters on the half shell were great, and the mushrooms stuffed with crab and lobster were divine. Dinner may be more expensive, but we walked out of there with 2 people, 3 drinks each, and split 5 appetizers, all for $50 plus tip. Good service too.

I have been meaning to try this restaurant fro sometime now, but every time I suggested it to friends they would say it was "too expensive." It is a little bit on the high end of the price spectrum, yet the quality of the service and the meal make up for it. My motto is if you are craving a juice, well prepared Delmonico steak, then you should pay for the best you are able to find. Rochester Chop House & Oyster Bar is a rather cozy place. If you wanna have dinner you will have to squiggle your way among the bar chairs and tables till you reach the actual restaurant area. Back there, the booths are comfortable and well lighted. Our server was super nice. He responded all our questions regarding the menu, and promptly served and clear our table. As for the food, well it was spectacular. The cuts were tender, the vegetables crisp, and the hash browns were creamy light. I particularly enjoy the parmesan encrusted onion rings... too bad the portion was too big and I could not eat them all. This time I didn't left any room for dessert. However, since I plan to return to this restaurant I will make sure to update this review. It is great to know that there is a place to eat a good piece of steak so close to home.

Service was awesome, from the hostess to the waiter. I knew I was going to like this place from the first drink because my Vodka on the rocks came with blue cheese stuffed olives...not just stuffed but appeared and tasted as if hand stuffed to order because the cheese was pouring out of each olive. The waiter was a good enough guy to bring extra olives for every drink me and my buddy ordered. Enough on olives, everyone at the table ordered something different and everyone one of us finished everything on the plate. The steak was probably the most impressive steak I have had since moving back to Michigan and the Detroit zip sauce was absolute the best thing I ever had. There is a lot of good places to eat in Rochester and I think this place is over looked, we only went here because the wait for four people across the street was too long. No wait here and we sat right down...although it was not the plan to eat here, I will definitely be coming back again. Price was high but expected for what we drank and ate among four people...worth every penny.

Yummy! Food was cooked perfectly. We ordered from the fresh fish specials. Wait staff was very knowledgeable. Everything you would expect for the name and price. Piano man was a nice addition to the ambiance. Only knock - tables were jammed in together making it hard to walk.

I should open this review by saying that I went to the Chop House on my boss' dime to entertain a candidate for a job, so I wasn't paying the bill, but I felt horrible that she had to given the quality of the meal. My seafood and angel hair dish was a huge disappointment and clearly not worth the price...three pathetic shrimp, about a tablespoon of crabmeat, and one lobster knuckle. My dinner companions had an over-salted ribeye, and a too-blood-red-to-be-medium steak. If you're heading for the Chop House, walk through the restaurant and out to Main Street...there's much better food for much better prices all over the place.

Fantastic restaurant! I went here with my fiance and my parents last weekend, and the meals were outstanding. Also, for an upscale dining experience, the prices weren't outrageous. We each ordered the special, which was basically a 4 course meal of your choosing. You are able to choose from a selection of items to fulfill an appetizer, soup/salad, entree, dessert combo. My personal choices were as follows: 1. appetizer: Maryland crabcakes 2. Caesar salad 3. Dover sole (amazing!) 4. Sander's creme puff (loved it!) 25$ for a 4 course meal isnt too bad. Overall, its a great dining experience from the wonderful bread to the attentive (sometimes overly attentive) wait staff. Rochester Chop House is a great restaurant and I plan on coming back many times over.

Fantastic as usual. Love the atmosphere. We went with a group of 8 and the only time we could get in was 5:30 because we made the reservations too late in the week. Although the service was excellent, we felt rushed because you can tell they want to turn their tables. I felt like the food was being served at a fast pace. Once we were all done, we left for another restaurant to have after dinner drinks even though we would have rather stayed there and relaxed.

Steaks here cannot be beat and you should always order the zip sauce. It's worth the extra $2 charge. A little on the pricey side but my company was paying (yeah!). The service is slow though. While we had a large party at 16, it took three hours to eat. Wayyyyy too long.

Cool old school style restaurant. They used to have a cigar lounge upstair before the new smoking law (BULL) I don't smoke but its was great to have the right to hang with your buds. The food is good steaks, soups and fresh seafood. Good service and fun to hang out with some friends or with your best girl pal. Not cheap but not out of the world in prices either.

We love this place! Not only is the best steak in the Detroit Metro Area served to perfection, but they have a great piano player too! Thanks Ed for playing our song!! The staff is on point and perform over the 20% customary tip. Make sure you get a reservation for the first floor on the weekends or you will miss out on the red velvet dining room. Enter from the back parking lot to avoid the bar up front. Do this place for a nice break from the ordinary "cookie cutter" steak house. It's worth the price. The 12 ounce filet is the best I have ever had.

The food was excellent!! First they bring out a bread basket and a marinated bean/ veggie mix. Delicious. I started with the French onion soup which goes down #1 in my book, the bowl is enough for 2 people. I went with the pan roasted chicken for my entree and was impressed the mashed potatoes were very creamy and there was a nice gravy/ sauce over everything. Service was perfect and the decor is very interesting

My wife and I visited the Chop House for our 5 year anniversary on Cinco de Mayo. It was fantastic! We had been here before and this place does not disappoint. It is fine dining - expect to order fine food and have excellent service. Gil was our server and he is excellent at his job. We had BBQ shrimp and split a house salad to start. Bottle of merlot perfectly complimented the app and the meal. I had a seared yellow fin tuna dish with asian flair. My wife had a mushroom fillet with blue cheese hashbrowns and asparagus. We finished the dinner with coffee for her and cappacino for myself. We will be back, its a great place for an intimate dinner - especially for young parents eager to celebrate life and share romance.

This is our favorite place - for date night Friday. Although it is known for steak, I love the fish. My beautiful wife, on the other hand, alternates between beef and sea food. My restricted diet is problematic but I am never dissatisfied. The staff is excellent and I think the prices are quite reasonable for a fine dining establishment.

This is my boyfriend's go-to steak place. Good food and great service. If you want to "dine" go to the chop house. If you want to kick back and relax a bit, sit in the Oyster Bar. My boyfriend's steak is always cooked to his liking. The sides are fresh and flavorful. I recommend you upgrade from the coleslaw to the house salad. I really love the salad dressing that they use- I think it's a key lime vinaigrette. The flavor is fantastic and compliments the greens and raisins in the salad perfectly.

After putting in our name at Kruse and Muer (45 min- 1hr) we walked the holiday decorated and lighted strip and happened upon the Chop House. No wait. We're there. Sat at the bar while we waited for our other guest and had a cocktail and Oysters Rockefeller. Excellent. For a place that maintains "chop house" in their namesake it was severely lacking in the choices for steak. I kid you not when I say there were but only 2 choices for steak. A Delmonico and a Center Cut Filet. That's it! I actually really like a Delmonico and outside of One Sixty Blue in Chicago, rarely see that cut on a menu. Delmonico it was. Here's the rift. Our server was flat out rude and borderline dangerous in one event. She was clearly pissed that we sat at her table for nearly 20 min while we (continued) to wait for our other guest. I understand *if there was a wait list*. Howeves, there were other open tables in the restaurant and as mentioned, there was no wait. The host also knew our other guest was going to be late and she chose to sit us so frankly it's on them imo. So the danger part came when the cole slaw was practically thrown on the table and a particular lactose intolerant person ate 3/4 of it when the lovely server declares, Oh, there is sour creme in that cole slaw, I should have mentioned! But it's only a little bit so you should be ok.lol After which she went totally Nirvana on us, aka No Apologies. This chick was totes Bush League, for srsly. The mains were great, Delmonico quite good, Salmon "excellent" and the mixed seafood grill, while a bit lacking in the flavor dept, was pretty ok. I wasn't in the mood for conflict but the other party members were so they summoned a manager post meal and posited their complaints. We've had a number of complaints about this particular server and rest assured, action will be taken, was her response. Sounds great. Let's depart and get some dessert elsewhere. Service aside, not a bad place at all.

Always excellent. Love the pan roast. Generous portions of lobster & shrimp, plus the excellent bread that you would knock down your Nana to get to. Friendly service & happy hour specials. Just like the best neighborhood bar.

How could you come to the RCH and not get a steak? Seriously. It goes with everything. I've gotten more than a few gift certs (yes, surprisingly enough, they have them) for RCH, and it's always a pleasure to come here with or without them. The staff is extremely friendly, the restaurant is elegant without being snobby (as in, I don't feel like I'm being stared at if I'm not wears slacks.) and all around exceptional. As I said a second ago, how could you not get a steak at RCH? Honestly it's the best steak I've ever had. The cooks really know what they're doing, and are able to get the right combination of seasoning, cooking skill, and a great sauce to make these pieces of mammal flesh worthy of the title "best steak." We ordered steamed mussels the last time we were here in addition to our usual steak medium x2. I haven't tried anything else on the seafood menu (yet), but the mussels are really great too. At least, good enough to make me forget about Fishbones for an evening. If you're looking for a great place to have a nice dinner, this is it. (You know, one of those generic dinners that necessitates the words "great" and "nice"!)

My husband and I used to live in DT Rochester and the Chop House is one of my absolute favorite restaurants downtown. First, always sit in the front side, it is more fun (its technically called Kabin Kruser's). I have sat in both the front and back and I have always enjoyed myself more in the front. First, their escargot is amazing; I actually want to lick the escargot plate when I am done. Second, ask for their salad with the green apples, it isn't on both menus, so you may have to ask. It is really good and different. Any of their entrées are really good. My husband gets their steaks and I usually get the Salmon Lawrence (it is soooo good). As far as upscale dining goes this is one of my favorite spots. They have always been consistent with their food and I have never had a bad experience here. Addition 3/27: After writing my review last week for the Chop House, I was like "Huh, I want to go to the Chop House", so my husband and I went to the Chop House last night. Again it lived up to my expectations and even went above and beyond so I wanted to give a quick update to my review. We had the lobster stuffed mushrooms and my husband and I both had the surf and turf, blue cheese encrusted steak with lobster, Yum! In addition to great food, the service last night was one of best experiences we have had in the metro-D. Our waitress was amazing and she made great suggestions on wine. They let us sample at least 6 different red wines to decide what bottle we wanted to get for dinner. I asked to have my oysters flash boiled to heat the meat up without cooking it, and even though it was not on their menu they were happy to do it for me. Both managers stopped by our table and spoke to us, however it was not obtrusive, they just chatted about how I liked my oysters and our wine. Randomly the piano player also came over and chatted with us for a while. The kicker was that we asked for espresso after dinner and their machine was broken so we ordered coffee instead. A couple minutes later they came over with espresso, they actually sent someone down the street to get it for us, wow! You can see their menu here: kruseandmuerrestaurants.…

Let me preface this review first by saying that if you stick to the main menu, your golden. It's the 'special's menu' that's pretty hit and miss. The 'Kobe' gold steak was about 1/4 unedible fat, which, at $42 is unacceptable. My wife had the seafood stew which was quite tasty but after 2 bites tasted like you we're eating a salt lick. Again, stick to the main menu and leave happy. The staff, as always, is top notch. Very attentive. It's a VERY loud but vibrant restaurant. Avoid if your looking for a quite date night. So today, only 3 stars based on the meal. 4 stars for everything else.

I went to the Rochester Chop House for the first time this year for my birthday. I was impressed by the service and the food. I ordered the steak w/ lobster tail. The lobster tail was absolutely delicious. The steak was burnt on the outside (I had ordered it medium well) but the meat inside was not dry at all and sort of melted in my mouth. The service was excellent. The server was very attentive and friendly. He always made sure our drinks were filled and that we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this place to those that I know. It is a bit pricey but I believe it is worth it.

The Chop House had just started the prix fixe menu up. For $24.95, you get an appetizer, a soup or salad, the entree and dessert. Yes, the portions are smaller but I would never have 4 courses otherwise. Seriously, the best $25 meal I've ever had. My husband had the petit filet w/ a portabella topper while I had swordfish served with gulf shrimp and cream sauce. For dessert, I made him get a Sander's Cream Puff, his first experience with a classic Detroit dessert. And then I ate half of it (along with a few bites of my very good key lime pie)! We liked it so much, we joined their loyalty club. Already looking forward to our anniversary deal in 4 months.....

I went to the Rochester Chop House last week for dinner last Saturday night and was quite disappointed. The food was pricy, the service was lacking and it was pretentious. I've eaten at much better "steak" places and wouldn't go back here. I had a filet and my friend had the delmonaco steak. Both were ok. The waiter appeared to be new (which I definitely empathsize with), but one of the managers should have kept a closer eye on the waiter to make sure our dining experience was good. Prices were high to given what you get for the food. As my friend said, "pretty food" without the "great food price/taste" is a recipe for disaster. I will NOT go back here. I'd much rather prefer Ruth's Chris or Captial Grille or even J. Alexander (hell their steaks taste great).

Food: Amazing, Steaks are fresh, high grade, seafood is fresh never frozen based on what they can purchase in order to maintain high quality! They also do very creative Chef Features that are AMAZING! Service: Very good! Very professional (not overwhelming, but not slow either!) They are trained to maintain service that is not lagged (overly long waiting time from course to course!) They also offer a TON of bar options including a great wine list, wide variety of beers, and tons of drinks! Overall, this place has many option all of which ooze class and good service! I def. think that everyone needs to try and check it out, this place is amazing! It is a bit expensive but a couple of dollars cheaper than the big competition (Ruth Chris, Morton's, Capitol Grill, etc.)

I have not had a bad meal here ever! Love the small quaintness of the Oyster Bar--Kabin Kruisers in front of the Chop House. Most people do not know it is a separate restaurant from the Chop House in the back. It is even listed here without the name. The fish tacos are awesome for a light meal and the fresh fish is always wonderful! I love it even more now that there is no smoking as it was virtually impossible to eat in there without the smell of smoke.

The Rochester Chop House is wonderful. They have comfortable booths, and a great piano player. The food is delicious: and the owner is always there to make sure you are comfortable. Last week we got the Fixe menu and shared it. No questions, no additional price for plates, and it was more than enough for the two of us. Sometimes, if we want something more casual, we go to the other side of the restaurant "Cabin Cruiser's" and get fish tacos and oysters. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is their wine prices are a bit steep.

I have been to the "Chop House" a few times and have always walked away impressed. Whether it was the succulent Delmonico Steak, the lightly fried Calamari, or a great bottle of wine, I have never had a bad meal here. I am a huge fan of Kruse and Muer on Main, and the Chop House is as good or better. I enjoy the piano player on certain nights and sometimes sitting at the bar with a plate of oysters. You cant go wrong with this place!

Started out in the Oyster bar before my reservations in the chop house. Very busy and had to wait for seats at the bar. Bartender alerted me as soon as a pair opened up. I had reservations and a short delay in getting a table resulted in a round of comp'ed drinks! Started out with the flash fried calamari and oysters, both of which were perfect. Calamari was very tender and accompanied by a lemon caper Beurre Blanc sauce. Great steaks. We each had the filet, I had it with the zip suace and she got the lobster king crab bernaissse prep. Word of advice: you gotta have the Stilton bleu cheese hash browns as a side. Overall atmosphere was raucous in the oyster bar and a little on the loud side in the restaurant (the way a steakhouse should be).

Mmmmmmmmmm. The Chop House is SO SO SO SO good! Yummmm!!!! I had heard lots of good things about the Chop House so I went ALLLL out. I didn't eat all day and stuffed myself silly when I got here. I love great business dinners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's start with the bread starter. There was bread AND there were these chips with pate. Mmmmm so good!!! The stupid pate was addicting! Wine: Some really great red wine that my Director chose. SO good. Soup: Almost everyone had the lobster bisque. If you love lobster bisque or hate it, I think you would love it here. It was rich, creamy, but not overwhelming. The flavor was SO good! Steak: Medium Well Filet Mignon with crab barnaise sauce. Mmmmmm... Side: Asparagus of course (shared) and the Hash Browns with Blue Cheese in a cast iron skillet. Mmm that was so good! AND I don't even like blue cheese! Heart Attack in a cast iron skillet. Dessert: Shared a souffl like chocolate dish with berries. One of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. We didn't go to the oyster bar because my boss says if you want oyster, get them at home. It's probably true. If you are ever in Michigan like me for business or pleasure, make sure to stop by the Chop House! Don't eat for about 2 or 3 days though so you can eat a bit of everything. It's so yumm! From start to finish, everything that was ordered turned into the perfect [FULL fatty] meal :D

I had to update this. We went to the Chop House for our anniversary again, and really - it's a five star place. Fantastic service, amazing food. It's worth all the money spent there. This is the only place I'll be going to for special occasions.

Four stars strictly for their happy hour, 3-7 and it's to die for specials, whether you want oysters, clams, calamari, and beer or wine, it's all here. The service is a Lil strait to the point, which some people love, but I wanted to chat with the servers because the set up is so amazingly friendly and you feel as if you are in a boat house near the Seattle shore. Ugh so wish I could go here everyday for lunch. Yum!

I've heard lots and lots of amazing things about the Chop House and it was a good meal. We went on a Saturday and were one of the first diners there when it opened at 5pm (insert grandpa and early dinner joke here). The restaurant was empty and our table was in the back, the slightly more formal area of the restaurant. The front has a bar and maybe 10 - 15 tables, where it is a bit more casual... or cazsh. Bee tee dubayou, I just invented the spelling for the shortening of the word casual. I started out with a Michigan salad, I'm not sure that's what they titled it, but you know the one... blue cheese, bacon, dried cherries and all that deliciousness and it was good. As mentioned the hash browns with blue cheese are awesome, done well the next day as a warm up too. And if you're a fan of crab cakes... this is your place. My bro in-law says he's had them from Maryland and these are better. I thought the crab cakes were pretty good... certainly not good enough to write a bit around in a lovable comedy about two jokesters who finagle their way into weddings all summer long... so I don't know who wins that battle. The service was great, it was my brother's bday and they were very accommodating to a big party and our waiter took our picture once or twice. I just wasn't THAT enthused about the food. But maybe it was the "too much hype" factor... my brother and sister both rave about it. You know the "too much hype" train, and you've pulled into that less than enthused station a time or two haven't you? Need I remind you about New Coke?

I love the Rochester Chop house! I have been going there for about 15 years. They have a great candle lit sort of atmosphere, fabulous service and terrific food. I really enjoy a casual night of oysters and wine in the oyster bar in the front of the buiilding. The raw oysters are great! They always have a different variety to choose from and they shook them right in front of you. The oysters are a bit on the pricy side but I think that is to expect when you are this far from the ocean. The oyster bar is much more casual and laid back then the chop house. Both are a great place to dine. After eating you cna take a stroll through the wonderful down town area, try going during the holiday season so see the fabulous lights!

I've had dinner and lunch at least 100 times over the past ten years and have never been disappointed with the food or service. After having eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, the Rochester Chop House ranks top in my book.
