My family of 4...2 kids under ten had a great experience overall. The food was great (Hibachi steak, shrimp and chicken). The service was great and the table chef was awesome. As you all know, it's the luck of the draw with a hibachi chef...they either put you to sleep with no tricks or fire you up with pizzazz. Leo (the chef) fired up the whole table and made a great meal. Based on this experience I look forward to bringing my family back again.

Sigh! We love the food but they need to train the hostesses. We were have a lovely dinner when they decided to seat a 16 person volley ball team on top of us even though there were not enough seats and we were already half way through our meal. Made for a horrible date and we have now crossed them off our list which makes me sad

I mean who was in charge of decorating??!?! They just rented a space and threw some Hibachi Grills. The only decor was a bright janky coke machine. We were sat in the last Hibachi table and had the half beautiful ambiance kitchen lights with all the sounds and clatter that come with the kitchen. We were sat and ordered a water then left right after didn't even wait to try the food. It's down town Rochester Guys, maybe just a little investment into ambiance and Decor. I went on Yelp to see if I was the only one that thought this until I read the review from a gentleman deceiving the decor comparable to a Highschool Cafeteria. Right on!!

Two stars for the food from the grill which is actually really good. The lack of stars comes in for the following reasons: - smooshed seating arrangements - wait staff wasn't all that bright.. someone I was with asked to order a soup and our waitress replied "it comes with your food"... He said he just wanted to put that part of the order in... She again repeated "it comes with your food". What in the world... Didn't end up bringing soup out until After the food was already on our plates. - too quiet!! They need some music on or something. - doing end of the night cleaning while we were still eating. Smell of cleaning products does not go with hibachi! - I hate when people bring water with no ice.

Came here on late sunday night at 9:01 pm and when called to ask what time they closed the person who answered was rude and stated "we close at 9:30 pm but we are picking up tabs now" so dont come here.. . well we came and the service was terrible.. . .and the food wasnt great. We will never come here again and advise you to do the same there are too many great places to eat in Rochester hills that want your business.

Food is good but typical, nothing special which is still very good. The chefs are entertaining and kept our kids complete attention.

Bad experience last night, cook forgot to cook my shrimp, started cleaning the grill, then gave the shrimp to the waitress to cook in the back, when it came it was teriyaki and I ordered hibachi, very disappointed, the rest of our party had already left by the time I got my food, will never eat here again. They did not take anything off my bill just asked if I wanted anything else, really? I don't think so!

I have been going to Hibachi House since it first opened. The upstairs has the hibachi grills. The one thing I love about it is they have AMAZING noodles that are included with your meal. Most Japanese steak houses don't. I am vegetarian and they have tofu options that you can add to your meal. which is very good. The checks are very good and remember me and my family when we come in. The basement- Below the Hibachi House they have a hidden gem. A bar with high tops and some tables. It is very chill and a great place to meet up before you order your food or have a drink after. You can also order food and they will bring it down. My friends and I often go down there to grab a beer, bite of food, and watch a game.

The food was yum. However, it's nothing that you can't make at home. The chef used a store bought Siracha sauce, ready made soy sauce, salt and pepper. That's about it! The food was terribly overpriced for what it basically was. Yeah, it was fun watching him do all the juggling, but it doesn't compensate for the price we pay. The quantity of meat that they give per entree is also below average I would say. Bottom line is, I wouldn't really recommend it. For the price, you could dine somewhere more fancy, maybe with better ambience.

Been here plenty if times and just had an issue today. The chef was very rude and tried to "joke" around too much. Told him to stop joking, then 10 min later he started something else with saying something smart. I told him to shut up and make my food. Told the waitress to get the manager and she said the chef is just joking it's his last day.. Last time for me and my friends going there.

I was pretty disappointed with this place, especially since I'm a huge sushi lover. The selection for sushi was poor, and most were cooked options. I selected the caterpillar roll, and it looked like it had been out for days. The avocado on top didn't look fresh, and the fish was mashed together, which tasted poorly. I don't know how the hibachi style food, but I wouldn't recommend the sushi! The atmosphere felt like it was family oriented. There were a lot of families at the hibachi grill with several children. Overall, this restaurant was not good and I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd give it 0 stars if possible based on the rude service. Called on Mother's Day and they said we would be best to walk in & couldn't take a reservation before 5:30. We walked in at 3:20 and they were 20% full. We were asked if we called ahead for a reservation & my husband said no because they said to walk in. The man shook his head (like we were such a bother) and said he would get us in, but didn't give us a time frame. Mind you, there are several empty tables! Why shake his head? So we waited and there was no bar open to get a drink, nobody offered to get us anything, and the place was 80% empty. After no update on our table, we just left. Nice way to treat customers, especially on Mother's Day! I would rate the food an average of 3 stars, as we have eaten here twice before and it was average. We've been to other hibachi style places that are better, but this is closer to home. Guess we'll drive farther next time.

Worst restaurant experience bar none. Had a party of 6 including by 12 year old birthday boy and my 95 year old grandmother. Nobody ahead of us line and we were told it would be 15 minutes to seat us so we waited by the bar. 45 minutes later they had seated several larger groups ahead of us when there would have been plenty of room for us. We ended up leaving and were seated right away at Kruse & Muir next door - wonderful experience and fantastic food. Don't waste your time at the Hibachi Grill. I wish there was a way to give 0 stars.

The ingredients were fresh and good quality (best avocado I've had since leaving California), staff was charming and engaging. Lunch was very quiet--I hope construction isn't pinching them too tightly. We had sushi, miso, tempura, and teppanyaki. I thought that the rolls that had tempura batter and rice were a bit chewy and bland, but other than that the meal was very tasty. Wish I'd had room for mochi.

I have added the Hibachi House to Yelp and am writing this review to promote restaurants such as this in downtown Rochester. I hope the owner will see this and try to make improvements since this is a new restaurant. Summary (Please read below for more detail) -Decent food with standard hibachi entertainment -Expensive for the average experience -Bland interior and worse music -Still new and has room for improvement -I wouldn't go back or recommend without a coupon or drink specials The Hibachi House has recently opened as of Jan 2012. The ownership is tied to the successful and delicious sushi bar across the street Sumo Sushi. I was therefore expecting a unique environment, quirky staff, and fun experience as I always get from Sumo. However, this was not really the way things went down. The Hibachi House followed the cookie cutter recipe to hibachi restaurants and hasn't included any unique attributes to the interior. It feels very bland, esp when there should be a lot of noise and excitement from the sizzling grills and lively audiences awaiting food. Music can set the mood for the entire evening, and this is something they need to pay attention to. The soft hits of the 1990 - 2000's is not what sets the mood. We heard some Michael Bolton and other dentist office based songs. I would recommend some unique music that gives a unique character and provides a fun atmosphere rather than fears of getting my teeth drilled. We were hesitant to eat at the restaurant due to the high prices (~$20/entree) since there was not a lot going on inside. However, I went in expecting some unique experience or offerings. I ordered the Hibachi Calamari and my fiance ordered the Hibachi Fillet and Shrimp. The chef did a good job with the presentation and cooking on the table-based grill. The other chef was much more lively and entertaining, but I expect they are still working on that part. Nonetheless, the food had good flavor and we each had enough to take home for lunch. There is a basement lounge for hanging out and having some cocktails. I could see this as a nice place to stop in and grab a drink while bar hopping on the weekend. I think they would need some nightly drink specials to get people down there and to keep people coming back. The Sumo Sushi always has $2 domestic bottles of beer no matter which time/day you go in. The Hibachi House needs their own draw as well. Unless the Hibachi House adds some unique flare to the experience, I fear guests will not be flocking back after their initial visit.

Absolutely terrible service. We made a reservation and when we arrived, we were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait because they were short on chefs. Perhaps if you didn't promise other people that they would have room at the same time in the phone, then you wouldn't be so full. The severs continued to promise people they could get seating quickly even when we and others needed to wait. The one that spoke to us was completely unapologetic about our wait and made no effort to make us happy.

Yum!!! The food here is spectacular. The service was good and pretty fast. The atmosphere is really quiet and large and there weren't many people there. I do think that the music could be a little louder so that it isn't so quiet when no chefs are out but as long as someone is cooking food, there's no awkwardness. We had the spider as an appetizer and it was amazing. It doesn't have spiders and my best guess for what it was is spider crab. The noodles were really good and the portions were big as well. Overall everything was nice and I would definitly come here again.

My favorite restaurant in the universe is a hibachi restaurant, and it's really hard to write a review that's not just a list of comparisons. But that's not fair to Hibachi House, so I'm going to do my best to avoid that. First, this is the least Japanese Japanese restaurant I've ever been in. The atmosphere is Modern Hipster, with granite counters and large black poppies painted on the rust-colored walls. It's attractive, though drafty on cold days. All of the staff we saw, from the servers to the chefs, were Caucasian. That's not exactly a complaint, just an observation. It's a little weird when your ethnic restaurant doesn't have any people that the cuisine is representing on staff. I ordered a crunchy spicy tuna roll to start, and it was kind of terrible. The tuna was overly fishy tasting, the sign of fish that's slightly less than fresh, and the deep-fried tempura flakes covering the outside of the roll tasted like stale grease. I did not finish it. My husband liked his gyoza (fried pork buns) much better. I also had a sake-based "martini", which was bright green and delicious. For dinner I ordered hibachi steak with fried rice and a side of shrimp. White rice is included in the price of dinner, but fried rice is $3 extra. Hibachi entrees also come with a bowl of miso soup and the standard iceberg-lettuce-with-ginger-dressing salad. I don't care for miso, but I'd eat old boots if you soaked them in that ginger dressing. The hibachi chef was fun. There was one other group at the table, and he flipped zucchini slices at each of us in turn so we could try to catch it in our mouths. One guy managed it, but none of the rest of us did. Entrees seem on the expensive side here, but the meat is very generously portioned. No complaints there. The veggies, on the other hand... I could've used more of those. We each got a serving of fried noodles, but I'd rather have more vegetables. While the noodles are tasty, it's just too much starch considering you're also eating rice. Both the rice and noodles were fried in garlic butter, which was an interesting flavor. Okay, ONE comparison to my favorite hibachi joint: the cream-based "zip" sauce served here, while perfectly yummy, is NOT my beloved hot mustard sauce. I really missed that flavor. The ginger dipping sauce at Hibachi House is superior, though. Bottom line: this place is good. Not awesome, but I'd feel good about coming here again.

There are much better Hibachi places nearby - but this one IS located on downtown Rochester. It has the ambience of a high school cafeteria, and average food (for Hibachi). Service and Sushi were good (same owner, I am told, as the Sumo Sushi across the street), as was two of the three chefs we've met. An average meal here, for us, took about 2 hours - obviously not the place to be for a quick meal.....

Well I have been to many Japanese steak houses and this is one of the best. I feel the stay works very well together and food has always been great . They have a manager ( JEI ) who is not a Mgr but acts and takes control of the restaurant and works well with the staff. They have very good cooks and (LEO ) food is super and how he talks and entertains the customers .. wait staff is very good as well and Nikki is very personal and always checks to make sure things are ok .. so in a whole good food , great staff and a staff member JEI that does great with the customers. Only comment is better outside view of in the restaurant and offer to sit down stairs and relax to people who do.not want to sit at the grill. Also post drink specials and take pics of the windows...

Not sure why this place has such awful reviews. My boyfriend made us 6pm reservations for the day before Valentine's Day; I'm normally pretty Type A but let him do all the planning this time :). A friend of his suggested this place and it ended up being very good. I dislike seafood but we chose two sushi rolls to split - one was sweet potato and was delicious, the other was a California roll. Overall I enjoyed the sweet potato more. We were seated and another couple soon sat by us. Our hibachi chef (side note: I thought this style of cooking was called teppanyaki? No?) was fine but some of the others seemed more fun. Everyone at the table had ordered fried rice except me - I ordered white rice - and I did have to ask twice to get our waitress to bring me that. Other than that, no problems. I ordered the teriyaki steak and chicken and it also comes with miso soup, a delicious salad with ginger dressing, noodles, and mixed veggies. Everything tasted great though I will say my boyfriend ordered regular steak, medium rare, and I liked it a little more than my medium well teriyaki. It's a bit pricey for what you get ($18-24) but you're paying for the show too. I'd come back here again for a special occasion. Nice location too in downtown Rochester, there's parking behind Main St and it's also FREE which was great.

This place was terrible! We were so disappointed. I convinced my husband to let us try it, and the good part was that there was no wait. Our chef was making crude jokes about getting drunk over the weekend, and it really killed our experience especially since we have children. He also proceeded to throw an egg in my husband's mouth, and tried to throw one at me. I was done at that point. Food was incredibly mediocre. I would NEVER go back.
