This place is pretty decent. I work in the area so whenever my mom wants to take me out to lunch, I pick here because it's got a lot of choices. My standard is the BBQ chicken salad. I always order it without the dressing and, without fail, they put the dressing on it. It's kind of a running joke now...although today they actually remembered to leave it off! The chicken is tender and cooked well, and the greens are crisp and fresh. Their breadsticks suck pretty hardcore, though. They taste like they are just nuked, and half the time they are so hard they are inedible. Lucky for me I don't really want to eat the breadstick anyways, but if I did I would be pissed. Good place to go for lunch to break up the monotonous day? Sure! Would I take my parents or my fiance here for a nice night out? Absolutely not.

This place has some OK lunch specials but whack management. My GF and I usually order 1 entrée and split it. We went a few times and with food was OK, sometime a little over cooked but decent for a sports bar. Last week the "honcho" came over and said we'd both have to order our own entrées to get the 50% off deal (on top of the mandatory drinks) or he'd have to charge us double everyone else. LAME! My response was to get up and leave. If you want to change the rules then go for it. Don't expect me to eat there again though :P

This place is gross. I got the Cuban sandwich (one of their signature sandwiches) and it was bad. Over-cooked and unseasoned pork, one slice of ham, and pressed flat on an overdone roll. It looked and tasted like someone stepped on it with a dirty boot. The chips were over-cooked and unseasoned, and my beer was extra bitter. My wife got the taco salad which was a tragic mess. It came on a giant platter with a taco shell tacked to the plate by retried beans and several pounds of mixed bagged salad cascading therefrom. It came with a tiny cup of salsa and tiny cup of sour cream. The table next to ours called the owner over to complain about the fajitas... first time I've seen anywhere mess up fajitas. The other table beside our was a group of late 50s couples with one man telling about the time he accidentally brought home a transvestite... awesome. The other thing I noticed was the ten or so people who left there while we ate all grabbed several mints from the greeter's bowl on their way out. I thought this was odd until I ate the food myself. I wanted the taste out of my mouth as soon as I was done. This place is a far cry from the Farmington Hills Grand Tavern which we've frequented and enjoyed many times.

Decent food and ok service. Ordered calamari and spinach dip for appetizers. Calamari is deceitfully served in a huge taco shell on a bed of lettuce. Kind of a waste of the taco shell. Spinach dip was ok. We were served it without a serving spoon for 6 people. I had the fish and chips, which was decent. My boyfriend had the carbonara, which was bland and he sent it back. Carrot cake was delicious though!

What a great place. It has a great combination of a place to take the family plus a place you could catch the game at. Service was fast an freindly. Shrimp fajitas were great. We will be back.

Good food and atmosphere. Sometimes service can be slow. We always sit at the bar. I don't know if at the tables it's different or not. They have the best nacho. 4 people good enjoy it. Love the outdoor seating in the warmer months. They have great specials daily.

I admit it. I have lived in NYC for 11 years and have become some what of a brunch snob but this place sucked. I came for brunch with a friend and opted for the all you can eat brunch. I got pancakes and waffles. The pancakes were hard as bricks. My friend screeched when she saw what a hard time I was having trying to cut into them. They were so hard. I had to go back up and have the guy make me fresh pancakes and waffles. The bacon tasted pretty good. The chicken smelled delicious but I was distraught over my tough pancakes that I forgot to sample anything else. It's a cheap place. The price is good for brunch but the food isn't worth it in my opinion. The waitress was kind of snotty. The guys cooking the food behind the brunch set up were lovely. The manager came by to ask how we were doing. I wanted to chirp up and tell him how awful it was but I didn't bother. This is a place for Pontiac folks that don't like leaving Pontiac. (They think Detroit is as far as Toledo) So it's definitely a local hang out spot. I'm from Troy bordering Bloomfield Hills/Rochester so this is a great location.

Been back 3 times since the September review. We've had the ROK experience with meat cooked on a stone. We considered this fun. But the service that last two times has been sub par. This last time the young waiter ran two bills on one credit card and then the second time mismatched the bills to the credit card. The waiter the time before that had been there since 8:30 in the morning (we arrived at 7:30) and he was clearly past his prime. Over all noticing that the food is not that great. Burgers are average. The steak sandwich seemed like a "Steakum" said my friend. The sauces are uninspired. The zip sauce for dipping the ROK steak seemed like a simple beef bouillon made gravy and teriyaki just seemed like a bottled marinate sauce as opposed to a dipping sauce. The garlic mash and broccoli were good, but not great. Fries are coated if you like that and the kettle chips looked good, but were not a knock out -greasy. Had the french onion soup and queso and chips two weeks in a row. This week the queso was bland and the onion soup was very salty. Outside of a couple of interesting beers, this place is quickly losing its appeal. We go out after church most weeks and I think this place just fell off the rotation list.

The reviews on this place were all over the place. Then I realized that the people bitching were upset that this place didn't serve baby eel farts on a bed of quinoa or whatever and that they were probably morons who bitch about everything. The Grand Tavern is actually pretty good for this type of casual dining American bar and grille type place.

Recommend the Sunday Brunch! Good food selection at a good price. Hot stone plate is also good if you're looking for something different. Atmosphere is nice. And not noisy in there.

Exceeded my expectations. Cool open layout inside. Nice bar area. Not a bad place to catch the game or grab a few beers at night. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Grilled instead of breaded/fried - seemed a little more healthy. Very very good.

My husband and I have been here a couple of times with family and both times we had a fairly enjoyable time. For our first visit we ate on the patio and it was great. The food portions were plentiful and the service was good. I liked the way the tables are set up, it's not cramped or crowded. And, even though it was a busier weekend lunch, we were not rushed in and out like cattle. Our second visit was this past weekend for Mother's day. They were packed and we were told it would be a 20 minute wait, but we got seated much quicker then that at a normal table. The multiple tv's weren't blaring which was great and our waitress was very nice. The food was good but one burger was super pink when it should have been medium well and had to be turned back. Also, one person got a completely different dish than what was ordered, but since he really liked it, he decided to just keep it. The brunch buffet had a long line and the place was completely full; it was obvious that they were doing their best to keep up, no harm done. The one thing that really bothers me though is they charge for everything even fries instead of chips or a side of dressing which I think should be a given with the meal. Prices on the menu justify free dressing or an upgrade to fries but whatever, I think both the food and atmosphere are still really good and we look forward to returning there again sometime.

Prior to last night I had only been here once for a birthday gathering including appetizers. I hadn't heard any other opinions of the place so it wasn't really on my radar. Last night changed all that. Came for dinner and drinks with friends and had a great experience. The Reuben was awesome and included homemade potato chips. Was pleasantly surprised with the beer sizes they offered for my beer of choice "Guinness". They offered pints, 22oz and a 34oz. I started with a 22 then had to go for the 34oz. It came in a giant frosty mug. Loved it! The best part was when we received the bill. Couldn't believe how inexpensive the beer was. Needless to say this place is now at the top of my list. Great food/drinks and great service/atmosphere. Will definitely be going back!

Usually go here for specials & happy hour. Overall food & drink are cheap and BiG! Love their nachos, tuesday fish tacos, weekend brunch, and hot stone steak. I find other entrees little bit greasy.

I found this place hiding behind Walmart. I have been in 4 times. We have tried nachos (excellent) fajitas (typical but lots of meat) calamari (ok but served in a very wasteful taco shell and lettuce) hamburgers (very good) sandwiches. There always seems to be a special for happy hour or appetizers and Monday seems to be a very special day. Now it is all sandwiches and burgers for $5 or most entrees for $7. The owners are always around. The servers are experienced. The place is clean. It was a Chilis but does not look like it anymore. Lots of TVS. We highly recommend this to all of the people we know. We plan to try the Sunday brunch.

I had drinks with my work associates here this evening (4/21/13). We do a lot of sales work in the area and take clients out for meals. Luckily, we didn't have clients with us today. Anyway, the service was okay. There were a few small mistakes, which does happen. There is room for improvement. This is not my concern by any means, however. The issue I had was the manager. I have never seen such an unprofessional, ridiculous manager in my life. We watched him as he berated his staff in front of us and the other customers. He didn't speak to them or converse, he literally yelled at them in front of lots of people. He even swore at them. I heard the "F" word yelled many times. I have never seen such a poor display by any manager or service employee in my life. I was so horrified, as were my associates. This is so very wrong on so many levels. We left cash and walked out as soon as we could. If he treats his employees like that, then I can only imagine how he would treat a customer. So we debated on what to do next. We decided we would just pay and leave and never come back. I am writing this, hoping this will somehow make a difference. I don't normally do this, but this has offended my whole team so much, I think something has to be done. It is not the servers fault, but the managers. I still can't believe how awful he treated his employees... Rather than have dinner like we planned, we paid for our drinks and then left. I don't want to any sort of refund, coupons, etc. No one in my company will ever attend this restaurant again. I am straining to understand how he was even hired. I cannot understand how he could be terrible to the servers. I can't believe any one can ever be okay with this. . I will also be calling and asking for his boss later this week. I feel there is a very big injustice being done here, and I hope to help correct it. Your manager is simply despicable. I am not the only witness tonight.

It's a great local spot. Food is consistently good with very generous portions. Always good are the nachos, fajitas, and salads. We go with the kids and neighbors all the time. Not a fancy place by any means but a regular casual place with good drinks and good service. Their happy hour prices are crazy good - $2.00 pints and huge nachos for $6.00! Just had the "new" steak salad tonight (without the tortilla shell) and can't wait to order it again.

We have been here a few times, usually for a drink and an appetizer, but also for lunch. The food has been okay - not great, but not bad either. They have plenty of tv's for sports watching. The last time we were in they were playing 40's music, but the manager changed it when we asked. They do have a good happy hour. I have not tried the steak on a stone yet, but i hear it is really good. We will go back to try that.

OK...two stars ONLY because those in my party liked their "steak on a stone." My Cuban sandwich was absolutely pitiful...it should be dry-grilled with DILL pickle, sealed with Swiss, fresh pork. Stick with burgers and other things hard to mess up....and television.

Monday night specials on chicken and fish are worth the visit. I had the tilapia which was out of this world. Been there three times and food is great.

Given its location in the Troy/Rochester area, I shouldn't be surprised at the overwhelming atmosphere of self-indulgence and self-centeredness radiating from either the clientele or the staff. Yet somehow, I still just couldn't let it go, even in my 4th time of visiting Grand Tavern. It'd be one thing if their offerings were unique and unattainable anywhere else. If that was the case, I could excuse, to a degree, the self-satisfied proverbial smirk this facility wears. "Oh, lookit me! I'm Grand Tavern and I'm in Rochester! You must feel privileged to come here!" But given that the menu is really nothing but average bar food, I fail to see where the draw comes from. The kitchen isn't exactly challenging itself here in its menu offerings of salads, burgers, and deep-fried appetizers, so the attraction certainly isn't the culinary delights. It's a local watering hole that happens to not be a dive bar. That pretty much sums it up. The clientele generally consists of the average for the area: white, well-to-do, overweight middle-aged businessmen with too much vocal volume and credit lines. Regardless of actual financial liquidity, it's rather the typical "throw plastic around, talk a big game, and look rich." Which may unfortunately translate to unrealistic and somewhat presumptuous expectations by the staff that works here. While I'm not broke by any means nor am I one to quibble over a dollar or two, I do take offense to presumptuous tipping. Translated, that means keeping the change without asking, or even the compulsory gratuity that's often charged for large parties (anywhere; not exclusive to Grand Tavern, of course). Whether it's a product of being accustomed to the aforementioned noisy local businessmen who may be lousy tippers or the economy of the region simply dictates a minimum 25% tip, I don't know. But the presumption by the bartender in keeping the change without asking was much too forward and that rubbed me the wrong way. The service wasn't terrible, but it certainly was not 26%-worthy. Now, to be fair, it may be just the service at the bar, and not on the main floor. However, I did sit in the main dining area before and while the attitude was much better from the servers out there, the service level was still in the "average/passable/acceptable" range (nothing to blow my socks off; as much as I would expect but nothing significant beyond that). When all things are weighed equally, Grand Tavern serves several craft beers along with the standard light American lagers. The food is average -- not horrible but definitely nothing unique. The service and attitude could use improvement. I harp on this a lot in my other reviews, but considering the overall competition for entertainment dollars, there are other places I can go to spend my money if Grand Tavern isn't all too interested in earning any more of mine.

Visiting the Detroit area on business and we went here to watch playoff hockey while eating dinner. We got a couple of appetizers, the sampler and pulled pork, to share. It came out luke warm. Later our drinks went dry while we looked around for our server. Finally, when it came time for the check I had to go look for the waitress who was chatting with other employees at a table across the restaurant. As we looked around it was clear all the employees were more interested in chatting w/ each other than serving guests. Where was mgmt this whole time? Who knows, we never saw em. There's a million other sports bars in the area, skip this one and avoid aggravation.

Not what we expected!!! Our table started with their "NEW" appetizer, the Blossom Onion. The onion itself was undercooked and tasted like I was eating raw onions, also the batter had absolutely no taste... Good thing there was a dipping sauce which made it better. Of the three entrees we ordered two of them were less than desirable. In the chicken bruschetta pasta, the chicken breast was way too thick which made it dry and tasteless. And the pasta was very creamy, but VERY bland. We ended up barely eating this dish, instead we boxed the entire thing up to take home. Our plan is when we reheat it we would add more seasonings to the pasta. We also had a slab of their ribs, which were dry and nothing extraordinary. But their fries that came with the ribs were good and crispy. The third entree we had was the mushroom and swiss burger. Overall this burger tasted very good. The only downside is when the burger was served to our table it was room temperature and the swiss cheese was already solidified. And as mentioned before, their fries were really good. Overall, we were not thrilled with their food. The waitstaff was attentive and did their job. Except we had to ask for water refills which I think should be automatic when it comes to an experienced server. The atmosphere was ok, lots of TVs which is typical of a sports bar and grill.

Its the grand tavern...cheap beer twice a day monday-friday, the biggest, cheapest, tastiest nacho ever and a great brunch buffet... 1/2 a mile from my house...winner!

I am the definition of a food lover and this place managed to make me hate the food I ate and the service. I ate there last night with my friends who probably hate me now. I've had 24 hours to fully orchestrate this review. The food was horrible. The nachos must have been made a few hours previous based on the texture and dryness of it all. I actually had an upset stomach for a few hours upon completion of the meal. The waitress was in a hurry to get us out and proved it when we asked her what time they closed and she said "pretty soon." I've never experienced service like this and would be seriously concerned if I were the owner. Lastly, it took over 15 minutes to get a refill of water, which also showed that we were not important at all. This place should close their doors and reconsider what they want out of life. The only way I would become a return customer there is if my bladder were about to explode and I needed quick access to a urinal.

Massively disgusting food. Went there with some family and friends and I cannot believe the horrible food that I ingested. I have had severe stomach cramps all day. They had great prices for the happy hour, however, don't be fooled because I am pretty sure this is leftover food or expired ingredients waiting to be served. I could not figure out if the chicken was grilled or deep fired from the bland and dry taste. The Nacho platter was loaded with cheese that tasted like brick cheese that hardened up instantly. The waitress delivered the check 10 minutes after serving the food without asking us if we wanted more drinks. I felt like I was going to die from dehydration. This place should be ashamed of themselves for not only serving horrible food but also allowing rude waitresses to run down the business. If it was possible to rate this place a 0/5 stars, I would've. I guess the one star is for the beer. Who could honestly mess up beer though?

I think this place is pretty good! I came here for lunch yesterday and I was pretty impressed with the food. Granted, I just ordered a salad, which is pretty difficult to screw up, but the chicken on the salad was well cooked without being overcooked and had a nice seasoning on it. One of the people I went with ordered their pulled pork BBQ sandwich and he said it was really delicious. It's pretty standard upscale bar food, not the best I've had but definitely not the worst, either. If you work around that area and want something up from Panera or Kerby's for lunch, I think this place is a good choice. Our server was attentive, efficient and friendly. All in all, good food, good service!

Yes, the Sunday (and Saturday) brunch! Best brunch bargain around. $9.95 on Saturday, piles of fresh fruit, bacon and side dishes; omelets, waffles and crepes made to order, good coffee. Our new regular weekend brunch spot.

I read numerous reviews of Grand Tavern before going this evening. They were not favorable at all, complaining about boring "bar" food and bad service. It's a bar! They have burgers and sandwiches! they also had entrees like salmon and ribs, etc. My wife and I had a hard time deciding but went with the black and bleu burger and the cuban sandwich. We loved them both! We got the fries with them and they too were very good. Not your normal, sting fry, but a thick cut, well seasoned fry. As for the service, Adriana was very attentive, came back to ask if we needed refills and make sure we enjoyed our food. The place was very busy at 4:00 and only got busier, so that was also a sign to me that it should be good. I highly recommend Grand Tavern and we will be back for sure!

So, like many other people, just found this place when I was exploring the Wal-Mart and Meijer area...and there it was! At first, I thought it looked like Applebees would look like if it was called Grand Tavern. So, my expectations were not really that high. However, when we went in and tried it out, we were pleasantly surprised. The place is really nice and big and OPEN. It has a great atmosphere with TVs showing the game. It just looks clean and I'm not sure why that is so important to the food aspect, but it makes coming here seem fun and energetic. We went for dinner and the food was very good. Now, I was not blown away, but was impressed. The food and presentation were top notch--and I was never waiting for refills on my drink. The staff was very friendly and attentive. In the end, the prices were just right--and I look forward to maybe coming back for the Happy Hour specials and for sure, I want to to try their brunch. I am happy to have found this place tucked away on Adams.
