This place has been around for over 35 years. Best Olive Burger Deluxe on the planet... granted, this place has more memories for me than Michael Jackson's Thriller album. Classic drive-in overlooking beautiful West Lake. Best time to go is at night and watch the sunset across the lake. And as for the food - best root beer within 100 miles, awesome onion rings, fantastic fries and the burgers are worth every penny!

Great food. Great service. The view is awsome at night. The setting sun over West Lake. The burgers are amazing. The secret olive sauce on the olive burgers is great too! Also try a BLT.

Food is good and inexpensive. Great homemade root beer. Parking lot is gravel and getting a space can be tough sometimes.

Only open in the summers. The food is cheap and tasty, and there are lots of good options available. I love the burgers and fries. They make their own rootbeer and it's pretty darn good. It also overlooks West Lake so you have a nice view. One warning - it's very busy when it is open.

Love this place! One of the few drive in restaurants around and the view of West Lake is awesome! The food is good and priced fairly. If you like an olive burger, this is the place for you! I have never had something here that I didn't like.

It's a small, unpretentious drive-in restaurant with a great lake view. As with any drive-in's, you can order from your car, or you can sit at the picnic table just next to the car ports. The menu isn't ridiculous big, but there is still a good variety, and what they serve are really good. We ordered the fried mushrooms and I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It was on special for $3. The fried mushroom were great. The batter wasn't too thick, and fried to a beautiful golden brown. The pulled pork was very tender, and was served with coleslaw on the sandwich. Since it's only open in the summer, I expect that we'll be visiting West Lake Drive In a lot this summer.

This is a great place for lunch with friends or dinner with the family as you watch the summer sun set. The view of the lake is lovely, if you can get a slot! This place is popular and the lot can fill up quickly, so I suggest not going right at rush hour if possible. The food is pretty good: your typical hot dogs and burgers. Definitely get a float or shake to go with whatever you get too. For any of those who live on the lake, people have been known to call them and place an order, then go pick it up via boat! Just a heads up, they are closed Sunday and Monday and are seasonal (April-Oct maybe?). Also if the weather is horrendous, don't count on them being open. The service is very friendly and they bring the food right to your car (like a classic drive in, but minus the silly roller skates) and are happy to accommodate if you need anything. It's a great local business to support, so stop on by and enjoy the summer weather!

So happy this place is open under "new" management. The original incarnation of this location had spotty hours, inconsistent food, and long lines. This revitalized version we've been visiting the past couple of summers is a refreshing change! I personally like to park and sit at the picnic table and eat, rather than stay in my car. It might be nice if they had a couple more picnic tables along the waterfront - as some other reviewers mentioned, this place can get *busy* in the evenings as the view is amazing and the temperatures cool down a bit. I love the root beer floats as a guilty pleasure. Something about their cheeseburgers, with gooey cheese coming out of the edges, is better than most quick burgers you can find, and even bests some of the good bar burgers available in the area, and at a very reasonable price. The fried mushrooms are amazing, and a few bites of a companion's pulled pork never fail to disappoint. My mom swears by their chili dogs. For a little tiny hole-in-the-wall drive-in with a gravel parking lot to have the rating this one does here on Yelp goes to show you the value, fun, and view you'll enjoy if you visit here. Don't delay!

Best olive burgers in Kalamazoo County! A great view looking out over West Lake while having great food...

2 stars simply based on nostalgia. It's under new management and not so much for the better. What type of a burger stand runs out of burgers? It was never really great food but the view made it taste better. I can't say that the view can compensate anymore. It's a shame. It's good to see that it didn't get plowed under, but the owners might do it to themselves if they don't make major corrections. I realize this review flies in the face of many others, it's not heavy handed it's a fair review based on more than one visit. I can list 30 better burgers in Portage, I can't recommend a better view on a warm summer day.

Plain and simple. If they cared about what the place looked like from the outside, they would paint the joint. I personally like the rustic look and the view is spectacular. We were lucky enough to get a spot facing the lake on a random weekday, place was packed. We each got a random burger off of the menu, fries, onion rings, shakes, and root beers, loved them all with exception of the 'no so special' french fries, for once I would have rather had the onion rights. I absolutely fell in love with this place the minute we pulled in. Closing Soon (End of Oct. for season), Cash only, tip well, enjoy. The other place I'm going to try (for comparison only) is The Root Beer Stand, but they don't have the view so it would be solely based on the food. I'll let you know what this guy thinks in a later review.

This restaurant is under new ownership as of a couple of years ago. The good ole boy owner has lived in the area nearly his entire life. I always enjoy private businesses that reflect the pride of ownership. The place is definitely rustic because a rebuild likely isn't in the budget and would probably take from it's ambiance anyway. Awesome view, friendly staff, and good food. The burgers are tasty though not gourmet but it doesn't sell itself as that. Fries are not the shoe string type and have a bit more potato to them which I pesonally prefer. The fish sandwich has a consistent taste having had it several times. I recommend the olive burger as it is probably the most unique menu item with the greatest positive feedback. Only a couple of reasons for not rating a 5th star. There's need for a bit more seating should you wish to sit outside of your vehicle. There's plenty of room should they wish to accommodate that. Nit picking but you'll usually find yourself also asking for more ketchup. The dirt lot is a bit more pitted than necessary and could be repaired with some fill. I, in any case, highly recommend this place for a quick burger fix.
