We held an open house at their banquet room. The staff was excellent. They kept things warm and fresh and plentiful. Very professional and low key so as not to interfere during the open house. This place is perfect for a medium sized crowd of around 40 to fifty people. We'll definitely be using this place again in the future.

A Pizza Yen-All Foods To Go

1807 Vanderbilt Ave
Portage, 49024
Reviews:
A Pizza Yen.....Where do you start. For me this is a 36 year relationship centered around ham and cheese. I have been eating Ham and Cheese/Butter only sandwiches as long as I can remember dating back to the S. Westnedge store. I didn't realize until later in life what a gem this sandwich shop is, I was spoiled growing up. I was never exposed to mediocrity The nitty gritty. It's not fancy. It's now in a warehouse. It's very clean and well cared for. The hours are odd but eat a sandwich and you'll understand how they get away with it. You can call ahead for take-out or eat in to save time. It's a good idea if it's right around noon. Start with a combination sub or go super simple Ham and Cheese - Butter Only, with a dog as an appetizer. Oh yeah they don't really have a pizza anymore. Stick to the core sandwiches, a large is really filling a small will satisfy but you might want a cookie. Best true sandwich shop in Portage. Enjoy....

YUM! Generous portions of very tasty food. The staff is super friendly, and there is a variety of menu items to choose from.
If I'm in the mood for a meatball sub, then Angelo ' s is my choice. Although the location in a strip mall doesn't indicate it, the food is very good. Be prepared to wait for a table at lunch.
the one thing i look forward to when i go fly out to kalamazoo for work... the sicilian sandwich... fagetaboutit... awesome... the homemade soups are awesome too! haven't tried the pizza yet but the sandwiches are all amazing... spaghetti and meatballs are pretty good too... right next to the airport so it's always the first place i go before i check into my hotel...

Reviews:
I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write a review for this place, as it is often one of my top choices when deciding where to eat. Even though I am almost a 20 year old, I still order off the kid's menu. Every time I go, I always get the Mac and Cheese with two sides of Olga's bread to put the Mac and Cheese into. I will say, their Mac and Cheese isn't anything special. Actually, it tasted like they switched to Kraft since the last time I was there. Which is a downgrade from what they used to have. This order was a little more watery and less creamy than I remember. However, it should be noted that this is the kids menu we are talking about, and I'm not sure how many kids are Mac and Cheese snobs. Either way, I still would order it again, as I love the taste of the bread and mac. As always, their snackers are delicious and should always be a staple in anyone's order. I haven't heard of any complaints dealing with their main entrees on the menu, although I can't vouch personally for them. I do know they have a nice variety of choices. Even my Dad who is a hamburger kind of guy enjoys their hamburger Olga! I really hope they don't end up closing this location since filing for chapter 9, I would miss it terribly!
Good food for a good price. Loved the marinara dippers. Never gave it a try before now because I thought it was all schwarma but I had a delicious turkey club. Will go again.
Delicious and affordable! Recommend the Spinach & Feta Dip Snackers and the Greek Fries.

We just moved to Kalamazoo and this is one of the first things my daughter said we HAD to explore. I am so glad we did - it's delicious! Walk in and get inspired - there are plenty of teas (I loved the chocolate mole tea), coffee, desserts, CHOCOLATE (a whole case!), and my daughter's favorite, bubble tea. You can sit outside in warmer weather - there's a lovely deck, right by a brook. But inside is cozy - just like a coffeeshop should be - but with the added pleasure of TEA! Highly recommended.
Well...the internet is REALLY fast, they serve Rykse's pie (which is a huge plus at night when Rykse's is closed), and I hear the tea is nice (so says my wife). If it's nice outside there's a pretty cool porch area by a creek to study or read and relax.
Delicious selections and courteous service! Love the chai tea latte and the tiramisu cake! A large selection of loose leaf teas are available for purchase as well as coffee and tea drinks. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. Quickly becoming one of my favorite places on Westnedge

We love Franco's!! We have tried all of the other talked about pizzerias in town and, while they're good, Franco's tops them all! The pizzas are delicious and you can tell they are made with real, fresh ingredients! My daughter never liked pizza, until she had Franco's ;) Also, every time I've gone in, there's a friendly face and welcoming words as I picked up my food! Huge plus!! If you want GREAT pizza and friendly service, this is your place!!
This a great little Italian joint. Pizza and subs are great! The food is more costly than a chain pizza restaurant but it's easy to taste the difference. I definitely recommend them.
Yummy pizza and subs! The pizza is soft and also crunchy at the same time- perfect combo! They have many cool combinations of stuff for subs. The restaurant is cute and homey and Franco was very pleasant and made sure we were happy with our meal!

Perfect place for brunch. Their food is good and the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. It's an easy place to become a regular at.
Went here on a recommendation from a friend and absolutely loved it. I had a delightful country fried steak with quite delicious gravy on the side. One of my companions was super impressed with The Lump. The staff/owners were super friendly and we felt welcome even on our first visit. The place is very small, though - we got the last available table and people who arrived after us were waiting, so plan ahead. I wouldn't really recommend going here with more than 4 people. And it's a bit pricey for breakfast food, but the quality and portions were commensurate with the prices. I'll definitely be going back.
I know I'm going to throw the average star rating off by giving them a 3 star, but I have to be honest. For a local joint that's only open during breakfast and lunch, I'm very happy to see that they're super busy, especially when there are many other breakfast spots any of the locals and visitors can go to. But, I guess I came on the wrong day because the 4 of us had to wait for a table. That's not too big of a deal, but that also affected the service we received. The owners were extremely friendly and (relatively) attentive. My coffee was never empty, but we kept having to ask for more water. And since we came at a time when there happened to be a couple of big tables that just sat down, we waited quite a long time for our food. I had the Country Fried Steak with home fries. The home fries were cooked to a golden brown, and the Country Fried Steak had a pretty healthy layer of coating that's not overly salty or overwhelmingly thick. The gravy had a good consistency (not pasty or watery) and also not overly salty even with the pieces of sausage in it. Be sure to come with cash. Although it's not a Cash Only spot, they do encourage it over paying with credit card (due to the charges). Maybe we'll make another attempt after the summer is over when most visitors are gone, until then, I think we'll stick with other places for breakfast.

Take it from a born and bred NJ guy... You Can',t get a better sub with higher quality meats and fixings! It's worth my trip from Galesburg. The only truly good NJ subs around! Tom P. ( the Jersey INDIAN)
Jersey Giant is truly the king of the sandwich business. The meat always taste fresh and flavorful. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere excellent. It is more than likely the best submarine sandwich for your money!
I went here with a co-worker and man I was really impressed. We went there 2 days in a row for lunch and I gotta say the sandwiches are "da-bomb". Definitely check this place out if your visiting this area. For sure, next time I come Portage, I'll definitely make sure to take a whole sub back home with me. The sandwiches are made to order and each type of meat is hand cut to perfection for your sandwich. Remember to get their giardiniera!

This review is not based on the food, but the following: We stopped to eat there for the first time ever, but decided to go to the store next door first. This was probably around 8:30 pm on a Thursday evening. Store hours list closing at 10 pm but when we went to go in at 8:57 pm they were closed. Ridiculous and very poor way to run a business!
It's exactly what I expected, and subsequently exactly what I wanted. I came in to make a takeout order just after lunchtime. The restaurant was clean, but unfortunately empty! (you should go there.) The gentleman behind the counter (the owner?) was very nice and took time to explain to me what all was in the "Jim Shoe. I ordered a Gyro and the Jim Shoe, and my order didn't take long at all (5-8 minutes or so.) My Gyro tasted exactly like a Gyro should, and I had a few bites of the delicious meat monster known as the "Jim Shoe." If you work around the area, or you just really appreciate shaved meats, this is definitely a great lunch time spot to hit.
Can't say enough about how cool this place is. I've been looking for a good gyro and sick of the diner style stuff you get elsewhere. This place has Kronos products which is a plus for me. A nice variety of "street" food like gyros, hot dogs, etc for pretty reasonable prices. Place has a fun sandwich shop vibe to it and the owner does a lot of the cooking himself. Very pleasant guy and he's usually around in case you need any questions answered. Best gyros in town for sure.
