This is one of my favorite happy hour spots in the area. They mix a great (read: stiff) cocktail which is exactly what you want at the end of the work day. They have something like 20 beers on tap, and their bar area has four big screen TVs. They usually have great happy hour specials. The place is fairly dark, but to me, that adds to its charm. If that's not your thing, they also have outdoor seating in the summer months. The food is good, but nothing to write home about, and the service is always friendly (although not always the quickest). I like their appetizers best, particularly the bruschetta and spinach & artichoke dip.

    1. Got there at 12:05 PM. Ordered drinks at about 12:10. The bartender comes in at 12:20. We finally get our drinks at 12:35. Why so long? 2. Flies everywhere. They joined us for lunch. The waitstaff saw them but didn't lift a finger to do anything or apologize. 3. When we entered we sat by the windows. You would think it was a brightly lit room. No, it was dark. In our party of four one of us has poor eyesight. We asked if the shades could be opened. "No", the hostess explained. Due to her sensitive eyes and allergies the shades would not be opened. Later I tried to find the secret to opening them and couldn't find the mechanism to do so. The was no way to do it. You WILL like the darkness! 4. The bathrooms have seen better days. Like 2002 to 2011. The counters are worn down. Childlike paintings on the wall let you know if its the men's room or the lady's room. The hardware is rusty in spots.

This is one of my favorite places to go in Kalamazoo for drinks and happy hour. The selection of cocktails and martinis are wonderful. Although most of my experience here has been for the night life, we did finally eat at this place (Crazy !!!). Well we were not disappointed, my wife had a pasta dish that she thought was good, however I got the Prime Rib and it was fantastic. One of the best I have had in a very long time. The staff was very nice but not very attentive (I think they were understaffed that night), we sat with empty drinks for quite a while. But over all, it was a good experience. The martinis are the key however in my opinion, lots of variations and lots of combinations for all kinds of tastes and preferences. Give the place a try, you will not be disappointed.

I am updating my previous review after the new owner explained why there isn't an online web page. These are new owners and were not able to use the previous web page. They have replaced the page with a message "new menu coming in April" and that they are new owners. She was so nice I am going to try it next week. She also said there is gluten free buns and pizza. Sounds good. I will be there.

The food and beverages here are usually good. Portage trivia - LoDo stands for "Lower Downtown" which may have originated from a Denver, Colorado restaurant with the same name. The menu has a nice variety of choices. The majority of the cuisine is not upscale stuff. Though the place has slipped a bit over the past few years I still rate it as good. My go to is the ahi tuna salad. It was a great deal up until the time they notched back the Ahi portion. I asked why and they told me that's just the way it was. It's still a good salad though and it always hits the spot. It has lots of fresh veggies and is the best healthy choice on the menu. I recommend the ahi tuna appetizer if you're not having an ahi tuna entrée . Same stuff as the ahi salad without the veggies. Most of the sandwiches are good. My favorite is the French Dip. Dipping things into other things is my thing. The bread is soft and it's a decent sized sandwich. The BLT with turkey and cheese (they call it a "club" where I come from) is my second choice. The tomatoes are fresh and the lettuce has been crisp. It comes with a pile of fries so you won't walk away hungry. This has always been a favorite meeting spots for locals. There's an additional back room area available for party's and group gatherings. They'll also open it up occasionally when there's a big sports event that draws in a larger crowd. They have a large number of draft beer choices at the bar. The taste of the brew would indicate clean tap lines. If you're sitting at the bar there are also plenty of flat screen TV's to watch a sporting event or two. The service I've had here has always been courteous and prompt. I've ordered take out and have always had good experiences - food packed up correctly, plenty of condiments, utensils and napkins.

Really great food we had for our anniversary. The stuffed portabella mushrooms were very flavorful. The asparagus stuffed chicken was also very good. Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere for a special night out.

Excellent friendly service and fun atmosphere! Large and varied menu had something for everyone. Appreciated the gluten free menu and great concern with attending to other dietary restrictions in our group of foodies. Yummy mashed cauliflower! Nice events room available to rent for free with 20 or more people ( can accommodate way more). Large screen TV's make it a great place to catch a game or movie with a large group. Fun bar area too!

We just had dinner here, and I was a bit hesitant given some of the reviews I read. We enjoyed our dinner a lot. Actually we ended up ordering a lot of appetizers since they are half off on Mondays. Then we also ordered a burger to split. Everything we had was pretty good (calamari, portabello frites, wings). I wish the sweet potato fries that came with our burger was a bit crunchier. The red velvet cake I ordered was a bit dry, but it was tasty. Service was great too! Our server, Taren, was super attentive. The manager also came by to check on us. We will be back!

Went here a few times for a night cap. Seems like nice people go there and the servers were nice. I only had dinner there once and it was just average for the price. However.... The deserts and cocktails... Wow amazing. Great for a desert and White Russian!

I've been to Lodo's about 6 times over the course of a year and have had ample time to render this verdict - Guilty of fraud upon its patrons. This place started out to be promising. The first visit was filled with tasty entrees/desserts and good service. Alas, it was downhill from there. Subsequent experiences were dotted with poor service, inconsistent dishes (in taste and temperature), price increases, and lack of desire to please customers. For me, the nail in the coffin is the recent price increase. No appetizer under $7? A sub-par reuben sandwich (not even made correctly) for $10? You're kidding me, right? This place is a pub - not a gastropub, gastrolounge, or any other fancy, upscale establishment. Speaking of which, the drinks are hideous! My husband, on all but the last visit, has ordered draft beer. Every time, there is something wrong with the taps - too flat, too watery, too "stale", etc. I had an anything-but "Zen Mojiito" that tasted like Robitussin. When I asked for water, I was immediately informed that the drink couldn't be taken off the bill and that I should pick something else. I complied, but at this price point, I expect a refund to be offered at the least. Finally, a word about the servers. On only 2 of our visits we experienced great service - a sad statistic. Usually we were subjected to slow, inattentive, immature, servers. On every occasion, we witnessed a cluster of servers hovering at the back of the dining room staring back at the diners looking bored, eating, horsing around, etc. All of it unprofessional. And again, how much am I paying for this meal? So I say goodbye to all of it - the expectation of great food, a fair quality-to-price ratio, the feel-good points for frequenting a local business. My eyes are clear to the scheme now. As the saying goes - fool me once...

We came here on our trip home from Chicago based on the Yelp reviews. Sadly, the food was pretty lackluster and that's being generous. I can say that the Seared Ahi appetizer was spot on and used sashimi grade tuna. The presentation was nice considering it's a bar, but the soy was a little funky tasting and the wasabi unspreadable. If the intention was to serve as sashimi they need to bring out one of those small soy sauce bowls to mix the two, but instead I'd suggest they come up with a soy, wasabi, sesame type sauce. The rotini chorizo mac n' cheese was really bland and the chorizo was left in 1/2 disks from the log it was cut from. It was spicy but it tasted more like kielbasa than a chorizo. The crab cake app tasted OK but it wasn't griddled or fried so it wasn't crispy and it more or less fell apart on your fork...the dipping sauce was OK. At one point I bit into something hard that was almost shell like that ruined this app for me. Lastly the Portland Wrap....deli ham or turkey, shredded cheese, lettuce, bacon crumbles with a dijonaisse type dressing on a jalapeno lavash. I had high hopes but they were dashed with the overpowering taste of the dijon. All in all I'm not a fan of this spot and don't feel the need to return. It touts 40 types of martinis but I didn't see any really high end vodkas at the bar that I'd actually want to drink in a martini. The one saving grace, and maybe the single reason this place had anyone to seat, on what should be their busy Saturday night, was the service. Our bartender was awesome...very friendly and engaging with a big smile. The expediters were on the mark too. According to the reviews, this spot used to be pretty stellar...I hope they get their mojo back in that case because it was pretty disappointing.

Service great however substandard ingredients. Had the fish sandwich (cod) baked with lemon pepper. Cod is one of the most mild white fish and this sandwich was very fishy tasting. I could not finish it.

It probably deserves 3 stars but hey, this is democracy in action. Tv screens, the shortest wine list in the metropolis of kalamaportage. According to the waitron, we ordered its favorite 2 items. Mac and cheese did not do its menu description justice, one good thing about the chick breast with asparagus was the mustard.. But all and all a fine dining experience when macD's your point of reference.

ESCAPE THE CHAINS Westnedge is pretty much the Champs-Élysées of chain restaurants. Do yourself a favor and take a brief detour to Lodo and support a great local business. My friend and I went in for lunch and found it to be a great place. Nice atmosphere, clean, friendly attentive service, and good food. We had the French dip and the BLT with avocado and both were very good. Plus, any place that keeps my Diet Coke full without me asking wins points in my book.

I think at one point this place must have been decent, but I don't recommend it, and it's really too bad because the area is in desperate need for good options.

My wife and I have given this place a number of tries. Unfortunately, the last few times they failed us. Our second to last experience was just shortly after having our daughter. We had been home for a few days and wanted to finally try and venture out with the new baby for a nice sit down dinner. We packed all of us up into the car in the beginning of February and stopped in. When we walked in they were fairly busy but not slammed. We told the hostess we needed a table to accommodate an infant. They appeared to begin looking for a spot. We took a seat on the bench to wait. Then, as more patrons came in the door, we noticed that they were getting seated right away. After watching this for almost 30 minutes or more, I inquired as to how our seating was coming. We were then told that it was just reservations only and that if we wanted to eat it could be another 30-60 minutes. Needless to say, we were very upset and left instantly. By this time, our infant was restless and we were forced to grab fast food and go home. Not at what we had hoped for our first nice dinner out with the newborn. Our second venture there was after some time due to the last experience. My wife and I stopped in alone, in the middle of the day, for a few signature martini's and a small meal. The food was decent like it had been in the past, but the service was definitely lacking. Our server was not very attentive or available despite the restaurant not being busy. We both got our martinis. Though, there was a large difference in the amount provided. I was given enough for 2.5 glasses where as my wife got 1.5. Her shaker was jammed full of ice making her last half glass mainly watered down liquor. After getting our drinks and meal, and only seeing the server a few times, she quickly came with the check. I still had a few bites to finish as well as the last of my drink. She then stopped by twice asking if she could take our bill yet. Really!? So, after being rushed for the last time, I told her to hold on a second, quickly pulled out my wallet, gave her enough cash to cover the bill and a bigger tip than she really earned, and then promptly left. I want this place to make me happy. I really do. Unfortunately, they're lacking and I doubt we'll take the chance again Something to note: The few times we were happy, I got the duck. It was always GREAT!

Had a good dinner in a restuarant I hadn't been back to for several years. My last visit was so-so, but this was much better! The atmosphere is great and very attractive. The space was nicely full and the it wasn't too loud. Menu had many interesting choices. I enjoyed the soup and a Bruschetta panini. My husband had the fish tacos and wasn't terribly impressed. Nice micro-brew list.

First time there tonight and I loved it! Great food, fantastic drinks. I had the ultimate burrito, which was delicious, and almost everyone else I was with went with the fish tacos. They're part of the appetizer menu, but it's three fish tacos with all the fixings, so definitely big enough to be a large entree on it's own. Two friends recommended the Rain martini, and omg, sweet ambrosia! SO, so, so good, and huge. Love it! Atmosphere was nice and laid back, staff was quick and friendly. There is a full bar and a dining area, and their hours online say that they'll stay open 'until the last drinker is done!' This will definitely be a repeat.

Always good food. Always good service. Today I had the Vegetarian wrap and it was very good. It was a jalapano tortilla filled with spanish rice, peppers, and cheese. I ordered mine without the black olives. It came with a side of tex-mex sauce, and I chose a side of coleslaw. The food and service were good, and the restroom was clean. I was surprised that there were not more customers during the lunch hour. They have a nice selection of American food including wraps, steaks, burgers, etc..., and a good vegetarian section on the menu. There is also a full service bar with a nice martini menu. This is a very nice place with casual dress. If you are in Portage, this is a place that you should try.

Probably the worst meal I have had in years. My French onion soup tasted like dish-water and my wife's chicken & asparagus entree was so salty she could even eat it. Maybe we just there on a bad night ( Sunday) but it will be a very long time before we ever go back or suggest meeting friends there.

I still love Lodo. And love the fact that their prices don't seem to have changed in years. This time I visited on Monday night, and they had so many specials that the two of us had an appetizers, 2 burgers, shared a martini (they are that huge!) and the bill came out to a whopping $21. Plus, the burgers were very good, and the portobello fry appetizer was super tasty.

Living in Chicago, I'm very familiar with the $8+ martini, I'm just not used to getting 3 martinis out of it! I've been to this place many times and every time I go I find another martini to love. The gummy candy found in many of the 'tinis are awesome and the food's dead on too. I can't remember what night it is, I think it's Monday, but they have awesome wing specials. LOVE IT!! I hope that this place isn't another victim of the faltering Michigan economy because it would be the loss of a true gem.

Great service! Pretty good food. Awesome drinks! This is my favorite place to imbibe. There are so many things to choose from. I always get the burrito, and it never disappoints. my dining partner got the fish tacos and said they were really good. I feel that the prices are appropriate for what you get.

We LOVE Lodo. It has really wonderful food, and the prices are quite reasonable. It has a tin ceiling and a brick interior, so sound bounces around a lot and it's a pretty loud inside but that's handy if you bring a family - your kids won't be heard by anyone. The decor is really cool. They have a wide selection of sandwiches, and some great entree choices. It's more of a bar/restaurant than a family place but it's very family-friendly.
