Close your eyes as you pass the dessert counter. ProTip for the diet-conscious: pick up the healthy options menu near the register. While it is punishing to ogle the baked goods en route to ordering, you can leave here being satisfied with your healthful meal. The salads and wraps I've eaten have been really flavorful, fresh and generally on point. OR you can opt to toss your inhibitions to the wind, go full bore and inhale all the calories you can get your hands on. I've participated in the former, and witnessed the latter. Neither of us left dissatisfied. GTPC taps into the pride most Michiganders have for their state, and it practically oozes Michigan from every orifice. A true hipster may resent that the company is a chain (albeit a regional one), but I can't argue with their execution of a solid menu and the atmosphere. During my stint living below the Mason-Dixon line, stopping here was usually on my short list of things to do when I came back to town.

This place is fabulous. The staff are super friendly and their pie is aMaZiNg and they have a huge selection. Don't want dessert? They have great other meal options. Don't want pie? They have sandwiches and carrot cake. Ever heard of Mountain Berry Pie? Well it's delicious and very Michigan. Definitely a treat you won't regret. The calories (and price) are worth every bite.

Come for the pie. Stay for the food. Or just come for the pie. Their slogan, not mine. Well, that last line I added. Simply because the pie is crave-worthy and the brekkie wrap I had wasn't. It wasn't terrible, just not something I'd order again. It's your standard mix of sausage, egg, cheese and bell pepper wrapped up in a flour tortilla a la taco bell. At 2.99 I thought it was a decent deal, then I realized you get what you pay for. The caramel apple pie on the other hand... AMAZE! Have them heat it up a touch for an ooey gooey slice of somethin' stellar.

I've only eaten at the original in Traverse City but stopped at the Kalamazoo location on the way home from Indiana. Had the ABC crumb pie and it was every bit as delicious as I remember. The best fruit pie I've ever had period. The Kalamazoo location is perfectly located right off of 94. I may be stopping here again in the near future!

Food was REALLY good. Had the Reuben which was outstanding. See pix. The blueberry applesauce was bla & cold. Overall it a lot like Panera. One drawback was cleanliness. It wasn't that busy but I still had a hard time finding a clean non sticky table. This made me worry about the kitchen.

This is the "fast food" of the pie world. I think it would be terrific to have a place to get great pie and coffee but GTPC fails. I had the Blueberry Crumb pie and the topping has a strange gooey texture that ruins the whole pie. I also asked for that pie with ice-cream and the ice-cream was old, rubbery and it had chunks of ice (as in frozen water type ice) in it. I guess they don't move the ice-cream fast enough to keep it fresh. My Mom makes WAY better pie than anything available at GTPC.

Nice place, for sure. Clean and well-kept. I didn't realize that this was a chain until I got there, but it didn't suffer much from that. Panera-esque in setup and food offerings, but with its own unique takes and obviously with way more pie. I went with the Lighthouse Turkey sandwich, which is panini-pressed and had a solid amount of cheese and pesto mayo. Opted for the coleslaw side after asking if it was more creamy or more vinegar-y (I'm a fan of the latter). The guy didn't seem to know, but said it wasn't too heavy. He was right, but it's definitely a creamy slaw. Meh. For pies, you can get slices of any of the full pies you see on display (it's a little unclear on the menu) along with any of the creams in the cooler. The mountain berry crumb was my winner after tasting a couple. Also, in the cooler case right by the front door there are some awesome--and giant--lemon bars. Place is a solid 3.5, but since I had to pick 3 or 4, it got the 3 thanks to their unpreparedness when it came to the Sunday post-church rush. I gotta imagine that's a regular thing, and they were way understaffed for it.

The pies are amazing!! I needed a last minute dessert for Christmas and walked in there! Amazing cheesecake! The berry pies are wonderful as well. I didn't know they had other good as well, I will have to go back and check it out, the menu looked good!

Fantastic food first off. Their pies are good of course, but they do a great lunch as well. Word to the wise however... I ordered a gluten free option and their computer system didn't flag it and thankfully I asked because the bread just looked way too good... And sure enough they had to remake it. So if it looks too good to be true... Make sure to check. I've been back since and it was fine.

everything was sooo good & the service was extra friendly!! Jennifer (not sure if she was a manager or what) was very sweet, she cleared our plates and got to-go containers for us. I'll be back!

I had the chicken salad and the broccoli cheese soup. There were five of us all together, overall, the food was decent, but everything has to be purchased separately, so the bill adds up quick. Our wrap was made wrong twice, and the order was messed up a bit too. The employees were very nice about everything, but still just an ok experience. It is not terribly likely that I will return for a meal, but I may return for a small quiche for breakfast, a muffin, or, of course, a piece of pie.

This is mostly based on pies and dessert foods. My brunch there was solely composed of a sugar cookie, cinnamon roll, and a Dutch Apple pie. I lied, I actually had a bite of my sisters blueberry applesauce, and it was delicious. Not as sweet as it probably would be if I wasn't eating all sweets, but I could tell it had that potential. But back to my food. The sugar cookie was superb! It was only like $1.99 and was a massive, chewy, sweet, and sugary treat. I would buy five of these and eat them all at once, it was so good. My cinnamon roll was the least exciting of the three items I had. It wasn't warmed up, other than sitting under a heating light (which didn't heat it that much). It still tasted pretty good, but I've had better cinnamon rolls for similar costs. You're not missing out by not getting a cinnamon roll, that's all I'm saying. However, you are missing out by not getting a pie. Probably any pie will do, but I had the Dutch Apple. One bite and it was addictive. I don't think I've had a better pie than this one in my entire life. The whole pie was $13.99, which is pretty reasonable for being such a monster of a pie, both in fillings and taste. I'd attempt to describe its taste but it's something you should experience for yourself, no doubt.

We are from PA visiting Michigan. Drove around looking for a place for dessert. We luckly stumbled upon the Pie Shop. The pie was warm and fresh. Next day came back for breakfast. The strawberry rhubarb is excellent. I highly recommend the sweet cherry coffee - I bought two bags to take home! And to rop it off the staff are super friendly.

My boyfriend ordered the BLT with the broccoli cheddar soup and was satisfied. I ordered the chicken focaccia with the tomato bisque which was delish! Overall we were both happy with our meals and to top it off we each ordered a slice of pie. He ordered the apple crumb and I ordered the ABC pie which we both loved. Fast service and terrific pies!

I go in here for pie whenever I need my pie fix (which is quite often) and the staff has always been very friendly! And the pie, whoo! Don't even get me started. I recommend getting the pie heated up for you, i like it better personally.

Eh, average food, limited menus. He staff really didn't seem To be into working here. I had the chicken pot pie and a drink. My wife has a small salad, black bean soup and a piece of chocolate pie. Everything was average tasting at best. The crust in the pot pie was flakey but the filling left me wanting more flavor. The piece of pie was the best tasting thing we had tonight. I doubt we'll be coming back given the great variety of eating places in town.

Previous review still stands. However: maybe they should call out that their apple dumpling has walnuts...

When we stepped up to order, we had to wait a second because the girl at the register had started eating. We had to give her a minute to swallow her bite before our order was taken. It was my first time here, so I was overwhelmed with the choices and took a second, but she was staring at me and obviously had better things to do, so I felt rushed. After I ordered I realized I didn't add a drink. When I said, "oh sorry, can I add a drink please? I've never been here before, is it self serve or should I tell you what I want?" She said, "I need a name for the order." After I told her, she just handed me my cup and barked the total at us. We were given the wrong slice of pie (we ordered cherry but got a cherry pie with some type of cheesecake or cream cheese swirl in it?), but we were too bummed out by our service to ask for regular cherry. My pot pie was OK and the pie that we ended up eating was good. When we asked for coffee creamer (it was empty) the employee standing around said "she can help you", and directed us to the same cashier girl with a long line of customers. (The line was moving so slowly that we never ended up getting the cream, we prefer hot coffee.) The staff here just can't be bothered with anything. Not planning on coming back.

Had the Manitou sandwich. It was superlative, but very small. When I pay $8 for a sandwich it had better be served in a terrific environment (it wasn't) or be a goodly amount of food for the money (it wasn't) . It was worth $5 or so but no more. Won't be back.

Service is amateurish and the food is just OK. The overall vibe and crowd make me wonder if this is the Bob Evans version of Panera!

Alright, you are never coming here for prom, but the food is healthy, fresh, and far closer to home than Panerra.

Well the pies are ok, though the cherry crunch pie could use more cherries (ironic given that traverse city is the tart cherry capital of the U.S. More impressive is that they go through hundreds of aluminum foil pie pans in a day and don't recycle them - into the trash they go!!! Whew!

Michigan in a bite! This place has great connections to local partners to highlight delicious produce including Michigan cherries and blueberries. Let me just say that I'm not a pie fan - I love dessert, don't get me wrong but pie, eh... Wow did this place change my tune. I had a raspberry, cherry, strawberry crumble slice (free thanks to the Pie Dough club, woo!) and it had this custardy topping that was pretty much to die for. The hubs had a chocolate pecan slice that wasn't nearly as tasty but equally impressive with big chunks of dark chocolate. Also blueberry applesauce as a side to my grilled cheese with bacon and tomato - this place knows what's up. It reminds me of a Panera - similar menu, but way more original and homegrown. Looking forward to another visit soon, GTPCo!

I had the chicken salad sandwich and blueberry applesauce. The sandwich was huge so I just ate the chicken salad with the salad greens. There was something different about the flavor of the chicken salad- some type of seasoning that I did't love but I guess that it didn't taste like my home made. I love the blueberry applesauce! So tasty! The best thing about this place is the people! The managers are so happy and personable. There was a group of older ladies that didn't get what they thought . The manager went out of her way to accommodate-- even getting them chicken for their salad and giving them two free pieces of pie .

Okay so I visited Grand Traverse Pie Company all the time when I was at Michigan State so I have to say I'm biased towards GT Pie Co because its comfort food whenever I'm back in Michigan. The food at each location I've been to is consistent across the board so although I only ate at this location once I have to say anything I've ever had to eat with the company has been awesome. My #1 favorite meal is the chicken pot pie...hands down the best pot pie I've ever had and as much as I've liked other food I've tried at GT Pie, I usually just go for what I love. I can't remember all of the other menu items I've ordered but I can say I never got anything I didn't like. Pie wise- well they are true to their name as a pie company and they live up to expectations! My favorite is the blueberry crumb pie-heated up- and with vanilla ice cream but you have to ask if you want the extras. Again, I've ordered other types of pie (ABC pie, pumpkin, caramel apple, apple crumb, etc) but blueberry crumb is my go-to favorite. When you visit the restaurant if they don't mention it when you order join the GT Pie dough club. Its a free membership and if you register the card you get a free slice of pie (which i have to admit i registered while I was eating my meal then got back in line for my free pie!). Service at this location was very friendly but definitely still learning the ropes therefor a little slower than expected at the register line but their friendliness helped me stay patient. I foresee this becoming a new local favorite in Portage!

This review is based only on the pies. A few weeks ago, some friends came over for dinner and brought a Mountain Berry Pie from Grand Traverse Pie Company. After one bite I was in love! The pie was absolute heaven in my mouth. The next week I was at work and realized it was National Pie Day. I ran over to Grand Traverse and picked up an ABC (Apple, Blueberry, Cherry) Pie for my co-workers. This pie was just as good as the first! The restaurant looked bright and clean. I can't wait to go back and try some of the food items on the menu!

Way better food and prices compared to Panera Bread! Love the side choice offerings!! The dessert selection is much better as well. I like that it is MI based products. It's like a MI theme in here. Gotta love that! My kids didn't like the apple sauce but I think it's great.

One of the best key lime pies I've had. That said, you can keep the rest of it... From the small "non-pie" food selection to the pretentious atmosphere. No thanks. Certainly knew after a very few moments that I was well outside of my element in this place. Might stop to buy a pie someday. Might.

For this visit we stopped to have a slice of pie after dinner somewhere else. They have a great selection of lunch options with awesome pie for desert. We had two slices of pie ala mode (blueberry crumble and cherry crumble) which were both very yummy! We really like taking the kids here for lunch as their kids meals are pretty hearty and very reasonably priced. We'll be back again soon.
