I have stopped in to grab some really good Mexican food here quite often. The food here is excellent and the service is great. The sopa, the traditional tacos, the beans are all recommendations. I realize this is not the Mexican food I have grown to love (Sanoran) but this is still the real deal.

Had our first experience here yesterday. The food was amazing. I ordered the fajitas tapatias, it was huge and amazing. We ordered the kids burrito and that was tasty, as well as the burrito grande, you get you money's worth with that one. It's gigantic. The staff was great with kids, and the food came out super quick. My only issue is, the tortillas for my burrito had a very store bought taste, a homemade flavor would have been great. We will definitely go back.

Burritos were absolutely huge. Good price for the quantity and quality. Table ordered two burritos and the Tapatia Fajita which had a huge plate of four different meats. Everyone was happy with their meal. Quick service.

Really great! My kids and I were on our way to Los Amigos (not impressed with service there lately, so I wasn't super excited that my kids had pick there) when I spotted the sign for El Tapatio. I had seen it before, but never stopped and had forgotten about it. SO glad we did stop this time! Great service, smiling faces, amazing food and awesome price! Very comfortable atmosphere as well. Definitely our choice for local Mexican food!

My husband and I were here for lunch a Saturday two weeks ago. It was very empty, two other tables and the dining room is big and somewhat uncomfortable with no other diners. The waiter was very pleasant and efficient and the restaurant is very clean with a fun decor. I hope dinner brings in more people. We started with an order or guacamole, that was fresh and very good. We each had the lunch taco plate. It was a lot of food and I should have only eaten half but it was so good and fun eating it, I eat it all. I am from Chicago and a previous reviewer was correct. If you like store front Chicago Mexican this is it. She called it midwest Mexican. I have been missing this Mexican food since moving to Kalamazoo. I would have given it 5 stars, but the food is calling out for sangria, beer, and/or margaritas. I will be back for dinner but waiting for the liquor license.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews of this place yet. My understanding is that it used to be a Mexican restaurant but it closed and in 2014 opened at El Tapatio. The staff member who greeted me was very nice and welcoming. The server was prompt and courteous. I tired a cheese enchilada, a chicken chimichanga, and a chile relleno. The chicken chimichanga is topped with a cheese sauce which I was skeptical about but it was good. I added a few drops of hot sauce for spiciness. The chile relleno was inedible. So much water and grease surrounded it on the plate that it was soggy and gross. Yuck. The enchilada was ok. Not very flavorful. Odd texture- I think the corn tortillas were mushy. Salsa is mild but fresh and tasty But the service wasn't great when I got my bill and instead of being about $11 it was $19. They had added it up wrong. When I alerted my server, she was very apologetic and fixed it quickly. So glad I looked at my bill closely. My husband and I went here on a Friday evening, for dinner. It was absolutely a wonderful experience. I had the vegetarian combo #1 ($7) dinner, and my husband had a beef combo dinner #1 ($8) with 2 sides (enchilada and a chile relano), served with rice and beans. For the prices we paid, we got SO MUCH food, we both had enough leftovers for the next day. To start off, the decor and atmosphere is clean, inviting, and homely. It looks like a place families usually go. We saw 2-3 huge families dining that evening. We immediately were served with FRESH salsa and fresh tortilla chips, which were SO good we ate them all!! The waiters were responsive and knew the menu - they helped me out with my vegetarian options. I really enjoyed the vegetables they used in my burrito. They were charred and beautifully seasoned. They were just so YUMMY they tasted good even the next day after we microwaved our leftovers. It was a very decent sized burrito, served with rice and beans, and one side (I picked a sope). Every single item on our places was really really good. We would definitely revisit and try new things and I would highly recommend others to give this place a try :)

food is decent. they are VERY FAST during lunchtime which is good. not the greatest mexican i've ever had, but for the price and speed, is a good value. a couple of the waiters are creepily flirtatious though, which made me uncomfortable.

We were so upset when the previous placed closed. This place has similar tasting food which we we really like. Looks like they have a more upscale menu. Service was outstanding. I hope more people eat here to keep this place going.
