The Chicago Deep dish is basically a giant circular pizza hut breadstick with a bit of sauce and toppings on it. They do a disservice to the Chicago style pizza in every way. Unless you're looking for a giant breadstick pre-greased and sauced or a couple days of bubble guts, stay clear.

If you want a true stuffed Chicago style pizza and you're not in Chicago this is the place. Even the other styles of pizza are delicious!

JUST GO THERE AND EAT IT. NUFF SAID. Or here's more said: The crust is rich and delicious. Tastes like all olive oil, no cheap vegetable oil or salad oil. There is carbon on the crust from the ovens. Cheese on the bottom, then toppings, then sauce. The sauce is awesome, it's not normal at all. Great herbs/spices. And the sauce is slightly caramelized, but not burned, from the being on the top. High quality ingredients. Crappy location and facility but the best pizza in Kalamazoo, Portage, and SW Michigan. Should be on Guy Fs Diners and Dives.

WOW! Only 1 review?? This is the BEST pizza ever! I have lived in Boston, California, Detroit, visited Chicago many times and this is still my favorite. Jack, the owner, came to Portage from Chicago over 32 years ago and still makes an awesome pizza. The prices are awesome, too. Take out or delivery only. You will be amazed!

Delicious! Just moved from Cleveland to Portage and have I had my share of pizza! I really didn't know what to expect since there was nobody I knew from the area that could give a recommendation so I just bookmarked it and what do you know, that time came. It was a random Saturday and I had 5 adults and 5 kids to feed, Chicago Style Pizza was not only the closest place but one of the first places that came up on Yelp so I knew it was destiny. Ordered one deep dish, supreme, and one thin crust, pepperoni. Both were great. Super cheesy, nice sauce, fresh ingredients, and crust was spot on (for my palate). We all went around the room and even asked the kids, not a single one said bad things, in fact we managed to plow both huge pizzas down leaving only one tiny piece. I'd say it was a success. The only weird thing I found was that they don't use the traditional pizza box, its more or less paper wrapped with, if I remember right, a piece of cardboard supporting the bottom. That really makes if fun for the ride home hoping it doesn't find its way to the floor. Whatever, it was good shiz. Note: I just bought (4) Restaurant.com certs so get while the gettin is good or check back for restock.

The best pizza I've ever had. Period. Although I live in Chicago, whenever I go back home for a weekend, I try to pick up a pizza from Jack Taylor's Chicago Style Pizza on South Portage Road. It's a little place with thick, hot air that hits you as soon as you enter. The counters are covered in flour and there are no chairs (save for the plastic benches outside). It doesn't look like much, but if the decor changed, I think myself and many other regulars would be very disappointed! Nostalgia is one their best ingredients! Please, please try this pizza!

This is some of the best pizza around. They don't skimp on toppings and a couple of slices will constitute a meal in its self.

Am I the first person to write a review for this spot? This is a small little pizza shop, really just take-out and delivery (thought there is a table or two outside - I've never seen anyone eating there though) in south Portage. It is DELICIOUS. I prefer the thin-crust, but they do the traditional Chicago style (as the name would suggest) too. It's a very small shop and the prices are great - but stop at an ATM on the way over because they don't take credit/debit cards.

This guy makes the greatest Chicago style (stuffed) pizza that I have had. I think this pizza ranks at the top even when compared to the top places in Chicago. The sauce is spicy, but not too much, and the crust is very good I would suspect that it is made from scratch. The regular pizzas are also top notch. I moved out of the area and this pizza is one of things that I crave constantly and when I come back it is the only thing on my mind until I get a pie...check it out and won't be disappointed.

I lived in Portage for 15 years. I've been in Chicago for the last ten. This is NOT Chicago-style. I mean, it's Chicago-style in the same way Taco Bell is authentic Mexican. (A vague, bastardized version of the real thing.) If you come to Chicago and eat at Lou Malnati's or Giordano's, you'll sample two amazing, excellent varieties of that city's signature pie. (Don't bother with Gino's East. It's quite poor.) * Lou Malnati's has a crust that's not terribly thick, but there's lots of cheese, followed by a very zesty sauce made with plum tomatoes. It's my favorite pizza in the world. * Giordano's has a kind of pillowy crust, followed by a metric ton of cheese, a thin secondary crust and a more uniform tomato sauce poured on top. When you cut into a Giordano's slice, a massive molten cheese avalanche pours out. It's a cheese lover's delight. * This joint in Portage may assemble the ingredients in the same order, but the proportions are all wrong and the ingredients are subpar. I seriously think this guy is whipping up pizzas with days-old dough, Kraft singles and Ragu. Run away. If you're looking for good pizza in Portage, get to Franco's near Portage Central High School, the Library and City Hall - francosportage.com That pizza will knock you out.

Finally tried this place after driving by it several times per week. We ordered a small deep dish pizza and the submarine sandwich. Both were excellent. The pizza was definitely deep dish. Very thick and filling. The sauce and the toppings were good. The smallest pizza is certainly enough for 2 people. The submarine sandwich was also very good. The melted cheese was a good touch. We ordered the sandwich and it did not come with veggies or or anything so if you want that I would suggest explicitly saying so. You cannot beat the value though. Less than $5 for a decent size sandwich and the pizza was very filling for around $8. If you are looking to get away from the main stream pizza places this is a great option. I was going to give it 4 stars but I gave the full 5 because of the value for what you receive.

Great pizza! Love it!! Just make sure to dab a napkin on it first, there is a lot of grease, but it is really very good pizza

Still a gem, and the best pizza in the area. I've been enjoying Chicago Style for 20 years now. I don't let a visit to Portage go by without having a meal there. The thick and the thin crust are both good. Very good quality ingredients and they don't skimp on the toppings. Carry out and delivery only.

A totally hidden gym. My parents moved out near this place after I moved away for college, and I cannot believe I had not heard of this place when I grew up in Portage! This is hands down the best pizza available in the Kalamazoo area - even though my true favorite type of Pizza is always the Neopolitan (an Italian certified thin-crust). The toppings are delicious, the price is right, and the pizza is oh-so-good. It's thick, and just a few slices will fill you up. It's got the perfect combination of crunch and chew. It's just downright delicious. Try it if you can!

Extremely greasy pizza. Was really disappointed in this place. Some of the toppings (green peppers) didn't seem fully cooked and the sauce is far too sweet for my taste. Takeout only and honestly you might as well cook your own -it would turn out better.

Best pizza in town if not best I've ever had. If you haven't had it your missing out.
