I posted this previously but for some reason it was removed...so here it is again. I'm going to start this off by explaining that this was given 2 stars primarily because everything but one employee was fine. I have gone in twice now since this location opened. It's right down the street from my office and I love the downtown location. I've always had a fantastic experience at the downtown location and the bartenders are very knowledgable and hospitable. One bartender in particular at the portage location is the exact opposite of knowledgable and hospitable. First and foremost he can't seem to be bothered to move at any other pace than what suits him. He has no knowledge of the beers on tap whatsoever or at least the ones I've asked about. Finally, he ignores patrons to have lengthy conversations with friends or groups of female patrons. I had to literally flag him down to get ketchup for my fries, he never bothered to check with me once to see how my meal was or to refill my beverage. I've been twice, both times I've unfortunately been subjected to his terrible service. Literally, both of my visits, I sat there with an empty glass for over 10 minutes while he spent time chatting with friends. After experiencing the same horrible service for the second time I will not be returning to this location. I can't imagine that this franchise is underneath The Millennium Group as I have never seen such an unprofessional bartender in any of their restaurants. My opinion is save the frustration and visit the Central City Taphouse downtown, at least you'll be treated like a paying customer and not a nuisance

Stopped at Central City Tap House (Centre Street Tap House is a clone of Central City) last night for some marrow. I pointed out to the manager that the menu is misleading regarding the number of bones you actually get. He agreed and agreed something needed to be changed. I pointed out it would be easier to simply serve two bones rather than have to change all those menus :). We'll see!

Great place to get excellent domestic craft draft beers and also a large variety of imports you can't find anywhere. The staff is very friendly and the menu is unique.

The service was great. We had a reservation for 12 people on a Saturday night and we were accomodated for such a large party. The menu is more for an acquired taste. Everyone at the table had to venture out and try something against the norm. There are staples that picky eaters may like on the menu like the mac and cheese, however, a lot of the choices come with eyebrow-raising additions.

This location is very convenient to me. I've been here 3 times now and I'm still not overly impressed. I've always had slow service. The food is just OK to me. First time I went here, I waited for an hour to be seated. They didn't get my drink order for about 20 minutes and my food came out cold. They ended up comping my meal and giving me a free dessert. I understand that this kind of thing can happen so I didn't get upset. I think the service and menu could improve. On a positive note, good beer selection, good prices, and decent atmosphere with patio seating. Overall, I'll probably continue to come back here but it may not be my first choice.

I'm a little surprised with the bad reviews. If you're looking for great food and great drinks, this is in my top 3 in Portage. My Wife and I came here for my birthday and were happy with the service, food/drinks and ambiance. Service: they were pretty busy (Saturday at 9:30pm) however we didn't have to wait for a table. We were greeted promptly and our drink orders were taken shortly thereafter. Food/drinks: we shared a fried pickle and green bean app, and weren't disappointed. We each got our own flight to try some beers then ordered a tall of our favorite. (If you can't find a beer you like here, there is no hope for beer in your life) we capped it off with deserts. I had the creme broule (sorry for the spelling) and my Wife had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream on top. Both were great and I would order them again. Ambiance: Great big screen, high def TVs, which is basically required to be a good bar. Taps are up front and visible with lit logos for the respective beers on tap. The music was noticeable but not too loud (I hate when I have to yell to communicate in bars; Tap House has the correct volume, for me at least) Previous reviews mention bad male bartenders. I saw two guys behind the bar and they seemed to be working hard; our flights and drink orders came out promptly. (I was on the lookout because of how harsh previous reviews were) everyone has their opinion but don't let others deter you from this much needed, classy bar in West Portage. Excited to go back for dinner and beers!

Same as Central City Tap House downtown Kalamazoo. Both are very good. I personally like the atmosphere downtown better, but the food here is just as good.

The service there is always excellent! They are always on top of things and willing to go the extra mile. The food is great too! They always have changing taps and their Bloody Mary bar on Sundays is fantastic!

Went back a couple weeks ago for a date night with the wife. It's so close to our house that we always seem to forget about the Tap House even though we've both had good experiences there in the past. This night however wasn't one of those instances. The wife had the duck tacos and I had the chicken schnitzel. One the schnitzel came, I was a bit surprised. No schnitzel to this. It was a breaded and fried full blown chicken breast. I think to myself, "no big deal it still looks really good." I attempt to cut into it using a steak knife. If they'd had a chainsaw I may of had success. This chicken was cooked well beyond anything I've ever eaten. I literally had to saw the chicken with my knife. I try the wife's duck tacos and while flavorful, they were lacking something. Hard to over cook duck with all that duck fat, but Tap House managed to do so. After struggling to cut half the chicken "schnitzel" I finally broke down and said something to the waitress. I hate complaining about my meal but I just couldn't wait any longer. She was apologetic and went back to the kitchen. A few minutes later she comes back. Evidently she spoke to the chef. He doesn't know how this happened. His only explanation to her was that because maybe they use free range, organic chickens they are a bit tougher. When she said that I literally snorted and laughed out loud. Nice try "chef". Your organic bird had nothing to do with this. Admit you obliterated this chicken and move on. They only thing keeping this from a one star rating is the manager. He stopped by the table and offered his apologies. He then removed my meal from the bill without our asking. Class move and much appreciated. I want SO badly to like this place more but overall the 2 star description says it best...."meh. I've experienced better."

The food looked good but.....was not good at all. I would best describe this place as a cookie cutter sub division type of resturaunt. I got the slider flight, the lamb was not edible and the quinoa was very bland. On a positive note the tap house burger slider was OK.

We had a nice lunch yesterday at the tap house. The food was very reasonably priced off their lunch menu. We both got a half sandwich with a salad and were happy with our selections. Being a couple of ranch fans we always get this little giggle when we find somewhere that makes their own ranch and has it just right - they fit the bill which gave us a really good start. My wife had the veggie wrap which she likes very much and repeatedly orders and I had the Cuban. I was a bit disappointed by the Cuban, but I attribute that to having had the best Cuban I've ever had a few days before and this one just being good. We had our littlest with us and it was a pleasant surprise to find that drinks for her were free. Service by far was the shining star here. Our waiter was prompt, friendly and really quite personable. I caught him up selling me several times in the perfect way, it was genuine and nice in an area that is really easy to turn off a patron. Overall good experience and a restaurant that we'll continue to have on our lunch list.

Another gem in the Millennium Restaurant group's crown! After a day of running errands, I wanted a small dinner and came across the Centre Street Tap House. It's only about a mile from one of my favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo, the Fieldstone Grille and there are a lot of similarities. The menu is somewhat similar. They have a burgers, salads, unique appetizers, and decadent desserts. Prices are a little on the expensive side, but the quality and quantity of food make up for it. I ended up getting a cup of their broccoli cheese soup and a salad Caesar salad. For bring smaller sized items/side dishes, they were huge! The salad was full of crisp romaine and delicious dressing. My only complaint was that there was a little too much dressing. The soup was rich and flavorful. They have a full bar and offer a great variety of beers, wines, and cocktails. I ended up getting a glass of their white blend which was actually wine from a tap. I had never tasted wine from a tap before and it was great. Very "clean" tasting. The service was phenomenal. I sat at the bar and all three of the staff were so friendly and attentive. They made sure all of their customers were enjoying their meals. The inside is somewhat small, but they they offer outdoor seating and it would be a great place to enjoy a wonderful meal on a beautiful day. I highly reccomend!

It was good, a nice atmosphere to have a conversation with people in. I liked how the outdoor patio has fire pits. It's a good place to go on a date. I had the cheeseburger. The burgers are super big, the bun is a little odd, was kind of hard. The kettle chips are a pretty peppery. Had an Oberon, and well an Oberon is an Oberon. The service was good, it wasn't too loud and the waitress easy to talk to. She gave some good suggestions on the menu. Overall it is good, I will go again.

My husband a I have been here a few times. We have never had bad or slow service. Everybody is very friendly and there has always been a good vibe. It is a place you go to have a fun time, laugh and be merry. Others have complained it is loud. It is first a bar with decent food, it is suppose to be loud. It is not fine dining. We are gluten free and there are many food items to order. The mussels are good, especially in the summer sitting outside, not the very best, but we like them. Great gluten free beer and decent wines by the glass that usually are not available in a bar/restaurant. There are many breweries in town, but no gluten free beer. If you don't want to sit and have dinner, I believe a drink and appetizer at the bar would be a fun time for most.

Returned again after having a less than stellar experience with lobster macaroni. Had several appetizers and beers. Wish the house had more local brews. The calamari was rubbery. Great surroundings and atmosphere. A little loud but good atmosphere when no busy

Food quality and service on decline. I've been here 5 or six times and I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. The reason I'm 2 star is because it translates to "Meh, I've experienced better." In the first few months after opening, the food was good, the service was excellent and the ticket times were reasonable. I just got back from lunch with a co-worker and we both left very disappointed. It took a long time to get our food, so long that we asked for it to go. The place was only about 20% full when we ordered too. The time before that I ordered a burger that was charred beyond the point where it should be eaten, I ordered it a medium. This place needs more consistency. The other Millennium restaurants seem to do a better job with food quality and service. They do have a good beer and whiskey menu though.

I've been here a few times. They always have a solid selection of microbrews on tap as well as a cheap PBR for your friends who are looking to save a few coins. I'd describe their food as upscale pub fare. There's a good balance between interesting items and traditional bar food. I love the raw bar on Sunday night with raw oysters.

I love this place! They always have a great beer selection and the food is amazing. Make sure you get here early on the weekends because the wait can be pretty long if you get there around 5:30-6.

I have yet to have a bad experience at Centre street tap house! Great drink selection and great food! I recommend the lamb sliders, they were super tasty! Great atmosphere and very clean.

Decent food, good service, and a pretty solid line-up for beers. More of an upscale beer bar than a good restaurant, but again, decent food.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo. Amazing food, great drinks, fantastic service. Get the truffle fries with garlic aioli! I prefer this location vs the one downtown because it is much bigger and has better options for parking. All of the Millennium Restaurants are great- go on Mondays for 30% off food!

The beer here is great, and it's about time they put a place with a fun vibe for younger people to hang out in Portage. The food is just alright, nothing too special but they do provide a lot of options. If you're looking for a good meal with a nice beer, I recommend this place. It's a nice atmosphere right in Portage to hit up with friends and family. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends during dinner time.

Love the atmosphere. They keep awkward drunks out well. Food can be hit or miss, but if you don't expect a Bravo caliber meal, you'll get what you pay for, on the level with Craftsman CH.. Good spot. Get the flat-iron steak.

Excellent selection of beers and great food. Isn't that the definition of a good Pub? My bartender, Kristie, was very friendly and kept my water glass full while I finished some work. I have been here several times and I will be here several more.

Brand new. Less than a week old. Spotty or spot on? A bit of both. One great female bartender and one really awful male. He knew nothing. She knew her stuff. She actually got me to try a beer I hadn't planned on by just conversing, and I had another beer..unplanned. Good bartender. The male ignored us while talking to friends and when I asked him about something on tap, he didn't even know what it was. I had to read the descripttion from the menu to him. Annoying. Food was fine. Interesting menu. It was a bit busy, so hard to know wait times for food, etc.. on an average night in a week or three. For now 3 stars with hopes for 4 or 5 when the staff gets seasoned or weeded out.

Unfortunately this restaurant's food quality doesn't stand up to its other fine restaurants. At our recent visit the spinach dip had no taste, the chips were all broken up, the mahi tacos were very plain and the lime garnish was so dry it I couldn't even squeeze a drop out of it. We like the beer selection but won't be ordering food next time until changes are made in the kitchen.

Waited 20 minutes to get seated (party of 3), no problem it was busy. After that never recieved service. We sat for 15 minutes, started waiving at waitresses politely, they never looked our way. Busy with other tables. Waived at the manager who didn't notice. We got up and left. And we are patient folks, who do not like a rushed atmosphere, but this was just weird. Tables around us noticed us leaving and actually supported us. Girl at entrance said sorry, but that was it. Not going back anytime soon.

I really want to like this place but can't. I live in walking distance so it's perfect for drinks. Fun for beer and great selection on drinks. Food.... Well let's see. First time we went there the chicken on my salad was raw (browned on the outside, uncooked in the middle). The manager however was really cool about it and very nice. Truffle fries were just okay. Just not good for the price. The staff however are a lot of fun. Management seems to be real cool with them. Worth it for a drink and an appetizer. That's all we use it for now, that and maybe a night cap.

I really like their menu, and love their Sunday Bloody Mary Bar. Service has always been friendly. Recommend the Thai Mussels!

If you're reading this, it's probably for a good reason or so. I'm not going to discount the bad experiences that others have had. Based on my one and only visit, I am surprised and do hope that if there really is a problem, that it is getting corrected by management with these individual patrons. I should also add, that while I understand that Yelp has turned into a forum where conflict of interest is rife, I have none and am receiving no disclosures or kickbacks for this review. I am rating this five stars based on my own experience after running a Grand Rapids marathon with one of my best friends growing up. I grew up in Portage, went to Portage Central High School (before they tore it down) and still regularly come back to the town I grew up in. I found their beer selection fantastic, their bread and cheese plate delicious and top-notch and a great selection of foods as well that I would like to try again. There are plenty of TVs around to catch any game you would like. I even ran into a classmate of mine from PC as well (who, by the way, congrats on the killer football season). Five-star ratings mean "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" With all due respect, Portage isn't exactly a mecca for foodie dining, I get that. I've reviewed hundreds of establishments around the country from NY to LA and have dined around the world. When I say that this quality far exceeded my expectations, I mean that the quality was definitely top notch and holds it's own-- as a Yelp Elite. I wouldn't expect to find a place like this in my own backyard. Consider the location, the convenience of the location where I could literally walk here in a Michigan winter and what we grew up with in Portage (not THAT long ago), I would say that any less and then I'm going to start to question whether the bad reviews are coming from local, competing businesses trying to ruin a new establishment or if all they are coming from snooty, out-of-town east coast hipsters. This is why we can't have nice things.

Tried one of the many craft beers on the beer list. The only negative was the beer was almost too cold to drink. Also a friendly bartender too.

Service: Our waitress' name was Ace and she was great. No complaints at all about service Cleanliness: very clean and organized. Didn't visit the restroom. Food: I tried the Cheese Ale soup and it was watery and gross. My burger was cooked very well but had no salt nor pepper. It was SUPER bland. The white cheddar cheese was like a piece of rubber and the lettuce mix was sad. The bun was delicious. The creme Brulee dessert was gross as well (and i love my creme brulee). The sugar did not caramelize all the way to i had graininess on the edges. The actual custard was flavorless. Berries were good. Not coming back to spend $20 to be not even 25% satisfied.

Excellent selection of craft beers ranging from local michigan craft to others from Colorado, New York, and outside the US. Food is a stepped up menu that compliments beer. I had the Cuban sandwich. The salt and pepper chips are what you would expect-good spice, crunchy, and salty. The sandwich was very messy and extremely fatty/greasy. Although I expected some grease and fat, this was hard to eat as it broke apart after every bite. Clean restrooms and good ambience. It's worth stopping but don't expect a meal that you will crave returning for.
