I wish I had read the reviews before driving over here. I was seated promptly but it was downhill from there. I waited 10 minutes with no one acknowledging, much less waiting on me. There seemed to be plenty of servers. Two spent a couple minutes conversing with a couple that had already eaten. Several times an employee would walk out into the dining area, stand for a bit only to disappear again I pulled up the reviews and decided I had waited long enough. On the way out I suggested to a gentleman who looked like the owner or manager that he really ought to check out the reviews on Yelp.

Could someone please tell me why a restaurant is able to exist with such poor customer service? Look at all the reviews (especially the non-recommended ones) that write about poor customer service. It's unfathomable to me that there is utter disregard for the customer's voice. This place clearly caters only to Indian clientele. But it's hard for me to believe they feel satisfied. As an average white American girl, who has worked in the food / customer service industry, I find the lack of service and common sense appalling here. Bawarchi: you need to hire and train your wait staff. Invest a little more in your staff. It's simple economics. The taste of the food was pretty good, but everything else takes away from it: the poor service, the atmosphere, the small portions and the inflated prices. Dear Shiva, please please please make a good Indian restaurant appear in this area. For such a large Indian population, the restaurants are atrocious here. This one especially. And I thought Mirchi was bad. [updated 2/2/2015) Maybe the passport / slave comment was mean. I deleted that one. The food was genuinely good. I'll give you that. But way too expensive for that portion. And bad service.

Worlds fastest restaurant...!! We a gang of 6 people walked in .... No one ever lead us to our table... Saw a empty table sat down and asked for some one to help us.... Then came one guy who asked to wait for a couple of minutes ... Then we were waiting for 20 mins and no one ever came back to help us... The first restaurant ever where gang of 6 leaves the restaurant in 25 mins,.. BUT without water served to our table .... Would never go back.... Sucks

Let me first get it out of the way that I went to this place in great expectations having had their biriyani at their Texas branch. Unfortunately the experience was rather sour, specifically the service or the lack of it. We reached the place at 8:20 and tried to order 5 biriyani, 2 veg and 3 chicken while the guy taking the order was busy on the phone. And finally when we did place the order, for reason only best known to them it took them 45 mins to tell tell us that they had only 1 veg briyani. It took them another 15 mins to finally get the panner biriyani at 10 pm, well past the closing time. The chicken biriyani we ordered was nothing special either with the chicken being specifically dry. And to top it off the guy serving tried his very best to make us feeling like he was doing as a favor serving us. Bottom line is the service was poor and the food was nothing great but I am willing to give another chance just because they have such a good reputation

Sorry I didnt have 0 stars here otherwise I would have chosen that. Worst service in the town. Attended early right after seating which was good. Food was served in decent time. But then there was no followup, when i say that it means 0 followup for almost an hour. Nobody came back or even looked at our table for water or if we wanted to order something. I wanted to pack the left overs but again nobody showed up so we didnt even have box to pack it. Anyways went to checkout with out the bill in hand and the billing process was so slow, literally one table took 20 mins (not an approximation) for checking out. I complained about this to the manager and he did say sorry but no customer service sense. In other restaurants they ask what can they do to help us, give compensation or give us discount but here nothing apart from one sorry as if no regrets. Didnt want to mention but now would just add: bathrooms were dirty and lights were off. For me they are signs of how their kitchen and other areas would be. Really really disappointed!! Not planning on going again ever. Sorry to say all this but you should staff it well or learn some customer relations stuff before opening a restaurant.

I dined w/ two colleagues for lunch. We were promptly seated upon arrival and that is about the best thing I can say for this place. We were greeted with one absolutely filthy glass out of the 4 already at the table and a menu offering no descriptions. I have had Indian food many, many times in my life, but I am not totally up to speed with the regional cuisines being offered at this establishment, so descriptions that are contained in the dinner menu should be included in the lunch menu too. Our wait for food was very long for a few simple dishes of Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer and Mutton Curry, at least 25 minutes. If you want naan or rice at lunch, expect to spend $0.99 extra per serving, as this is not included in the already expensive entree price. Apparently water is also at a premium, as our server (and I am being polite labeling him that) did not return to our table after bringing out our food for any reason, let alone to refill our empty glasses. After waiting at least 15 minutes for our bill, during which the "server" bused the table adjacent to ours for at least half of that time, we walked to the front register for our bill. Our "server" was there and asked me to wait 2 more minutes for the bill. He then handed me a bill and pen which of course had no ink. I can't make this up. I voiced my displeasure with our wait and the "server" said nothing. On a side note, there were patrons galore waiting for tables. It even appeared that they were temporarily seating customers at tables in the rear of the restaurant, where they had to wait until front tables cleared before ordering and being served. Of course our table could have been turned over 20 minutes earlier had our "server" paid any attention to us. I pointed this out to a woman who seemed to be co-running things and she too must have been trained at the same place as the "server", as her response showed no grasp of how to manage a restaurant. She earlier was doing alot of hand waving for a table of 6 that was jammed into a booth up front, after having waited in the back for 15 minutes. The shame in all of this is that all 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. If they keep this as the family business it appears to be, it will close it's doors in weeks. A professional wait staff and experienced management is needed immediately.

We had a party of five on a Saturday night. The place wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. We didn't see menus or a server for a good 10 minutes after being seated. Plenty of people walked by but nobody acknowledged us. The good: The sev puri, samosa chat, and dosas were delicious. Large chilled bottles of Kingfisher and Taj The bad: The mugli chicken Kabob. Might as well call it salt flavored chicken jerky. The sambar that came with each dosa was stone cold. Had to send three separate orders back to be heated (one for each dosa we ordered - each of which came out at different times). The Biryani was loaded with cinnamon. Kinda tasted like rice and Goldschlager or a piece if Big Red. Service: When you asked for something it was delivered quickly or the mistake was fixed rather quickly. The problem is that cold food, no refills on water, and timing the food so it is all brought out together is basic stuff and should not have to be corrected. Probably won't need to come back with places like Ahaar and Chutneys in the area.

Came here twice this week. First time the service was horrible but the food was good. I didn't want to come back but my daughter did so here I sit. The service was fantastic and the butter chicken the best ever. It was better than Indo fusion in Novi which was previously the best I've had. Looks like I'm coming back soon.

I am writing this review sitting in the restaraunt. Took 30 mins got a Dosa and sambar vada. Vada is hard like a rock and when I asked him if this vada was made 2 days before(sarcastically), his reply is " the vada is prepared only today and all vada is same". One of the worst customer service I have experienced .

Although I don't live in Detroit, i fly in weekly and work in Novi. I came across Mirchi about a year ago and absolutely loved it. When I saw the new sign, I was worried b/c I didn't think it would be as good. I couldn't have been more wrong. Bawarchi improves on Mirchi in virtually every regard. First and easiest is the environment - they knocked out some of the walls and opened up the back room. The reason I think this is important is the next point. The service at the old restaurant was really slow. They were very nice people and tried hard, but you could end up waiting forever after dinner to get your check. The service at Bawarchi is superb. I've eaten in a good 5 times and had takeout just as many and they hit home runs on each. I'm comfortable saying Bawarchi has the best service I've experienced in the whole Detroit metro area. Then there's the food. They added on to their menu and it's very clearly different recipes. there's a whole new section for vegetarian appetizers for instance. They didn't have each of these before so I can't compare directly, but I loved the old chili chicken and the current version is notably better (although I'd caution that when they tell you something is Hot or Spicy, they mean it). I had the takka masala before and after and I really loved both - the new version is different but it's hard to identify exactly what - I'll just say it's phenomenal. They offer rice of Naan with each order and one of the benefits of dining in is that they keep bringing it out and it's so 'fresh out of the oven' I frequently had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. I don't know how they pull it off, but its consistently lightly crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. I still enjoy it when we've ordered take out - but if you're in the area, do yourself a favor and just try it once while dining in. I don't think I can adequately describe it without sounding like a shill. All said, the outside and inside of the restaurant got a face lift, they kept every old menu item I ever tried and changed it (often tor the better) and the service is as as friendly and competent as it comes. They've only been open around 2 months and I've already managed to eat there a 10+ times - this place is just plain awesome.

Food was Oke not great.... lack of flavours in biryani and even the service is Oke I feel the prices are high for the quality and quantity of the food. I don't recommend bawarchi at all

I don't want to waste a lot of my time giving a detailed review. We ordered biryani. It was overcooked , 1 hour wait time, bad service, overpriced, and did i say it didn't really taste like biryani.

Very slow service and high price, tastes OK. My husband dish arrived 15mins later after mine. It took another 15mins for just extra Naan bread so my curry went cold while waiting. Mirch Indian Cuisine was here before and they were far better.

Very stingy with the meat. There were more bones than meat. I ordered mutton Biryani. Huge bowl of rice but paid over $14 for bowl of spiced rice, 1 slice of onion, half of boiled egg and 1/4 slice of lemon. I try to cheer for independent small business owners but I definitely would never eat here again.

Worst customer service. I went there with a group of 5 friends for dinner and when we tried to place an order of chicken dum biryani, we were told restaurant is not serving chicken dum biryani for dine-in but it is taking carry out orders of chicken dum biryani. I never heard of such a weird logic in an Indian restaurant while place order. I tried to reach Manager but he had such an attitude of not talking to customer. This restaurant is a BIG NO for me and same recommendation to my friends

Am still at this place while posting this. Ordered my food after going through many negotiations about what to order(they don't have anything I asked for in the menu). Yet to get the food after waiting for almost 1 and a half hour (45 mins before getting the table and the rest after ordering the food ) Hope I could give a lesser rating! I'll keep you folks updated about the taste of food.

After reading previous reviews my fiancé and I were apprehensive to give this restaurant a shot, but I'm happy to say that we were very pleasantly surprised. It seems the service issues have been resolved, the staff was pleasant and prompt with drinks and food. The food was AWESOME, very fresh and their sauces were delish. Some of the best Indian food I've had. We've found our new go to Indian restaurant. Give it a try.

The restaurant is clean and new. The food is really good but pricey compared to other Indian restaurants around. The hot and sour soup (both veg and chicken) is really really hot, so be careful. I liked the peanut/coconut chutney very much. They have Indian beers as well. On the down side, there are no desserts. Pro: Clean and rich ambience Tasty food Friendly service Con: Pricey No desserts

The bad: Service horrible - slow and didn't refill my water until after I was done eating Served wrong meat in dish (ordered chicken, got goat). Ate it, because I was starving and was getting no attention. Note: Table next to me ordered chicken recv'd lamb, then the server lied to the woman, who called over the manager. Then the manager tried to explain it off instead of just correcting the order. Maybe it was the server, but really?!? The manger handled poorly. Maybe he was trained that way. The good: Seasoning: Fair. Nothing worth a return trip for, there is better locally.

Among the best Indian food in the area. I was there with my daughter and I was a little apprehensive because of the poor Yelp ratings for service. But they did a nice job and I think part of their early service issues were because of cultural differences--Americans want fast service and Indians take their time maybe. At any rate the only service issue was with my Shrimp Tandoori Oven order. They did not tell us the Tandoori oven orders take more time. It was not an issue with us because we had agreed to split my Shrimp Tandoori and my daughters order of Chicken Mughlai. So it worked out perfectly for us. We had also started with an order of Corn Manchuria( baby corn breaded and fried with delicious Indian spices---excellent. My shrimp was perfect and the Chicken was very tasty. They have a full bar with some great whisky but only two wines--red or white. We both had red and it was very good. They must have some great Indian food because they were full of Indian nationals. My daughter spent some time in India and said their food was better than anything she had there. The manager came by to make sure we had no problems and was very friendly and concerned that we were happy. Meghanath, our waiter, did a great job. We'll be back.

Atmosphere - Too well lit for a fine dining establishment with a full bar. Otherwise, it is pleasant, with brightly coloured walls offset with black trim. Food - Really good! We had Samosas for an appetizer. We split vegetable Korma and Shahi paneer. Both were fragrant and creamy and deliciously spiced. Six stars, really, for the paneer. The rice was nicely cooked and fragranced with cardamom. The naan was soft and buttery. Service - Despite a mix up at the beginning of the meal, service was friendly and attentive.
