OVERALL: A cafe in a bookstore? What an adorable concept! Plus their breakfast croissant is my absolute favorite. Their sweet or savory crepes are huge, so if you'r not THAT hungry, grab two forks and share with a friend! Sharing is caring! This cafe also has an assortment of mixed teas and fresh squeezed orange juice if you're not craving that usual cup of joe. SECRET SPACE They have a small room in their lower level for book clubs or children's birthday parties. The ceiling is pretty low, so if you're taller than 5'4, I'm not sure if you would ever rent out the space... but it's around $50 (I think) if you are looking for a place to host a shower or child's birthday party for the whole day! Not bad!! WHAT COULD BE BETTER: Normally credit cards are accepted... but today, there were some technical difficulties with the computer system and the staff directed me to the nearest ATM. So, I ran out and paid the extra fine to get cash and went back into the cafe. I told myself it would be worth it and because I was really excited to take my friend here! Within that five minutes, My friend already ordered and found a place to sit. My friend then told me that they were closing the cafe in 5 minutes and would not letting anyone else in. The staff informed her they were closing at 10am because of their computer glitches and that they were moving their customers out of the cafe. So in summary, we arrived at the cafe at 9:50am, I was directed to go to an ATM. I got back to the cafe around 9:55am with cash only to find that they were closing the cafe entirely at 10am (normally closed later in the afternoon on the weekdays) and that we could get to go boxes to eat outside. Couldn't someone tell me that BEFORE I went out of my way to get cash? Thankfully, a staff member... offered us a refund so we could go elsewhere and take our time and eat indoors on a windy morning. So we went somewhere else. And on my way back to my car... when I was passing this cafe two hours later... this place was up and running. The sign that they were closed for the rest of the day was taken down. So, needless to say I was rather irritated with the staff's ability to manage some technical irregularities. -I understand I was at the right place at the wrong time... but I'm still a little irked. It's an understandable irk. irk.irk.irk.

If i was a local, I would frequent this place regularly. We came and checked out The Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro solely because it was used in Scream4. And by checked out, I mean drove from Chicago where we were on business. I wasn't disappointed. The staff were friendly, the food was good, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. For fans of the movie, they have a painting on the wall made just for the movie. Only thing was, I couldn't discover who painted it. If the owner of anyone else knows, I'd really like to find out. I'm sorry I can't visit this place more often.

Nearly $12 for a sandwich with an Arnold Palmer iced tea. Got a panini. It was cold. Not sure how that happens. Had a whopping slice and a half of meat on it. Total ripoff.

Great family owned little book store and eatery. The place feels more 'bookstore' than 'eatery' but the food is surprisingly good. In the summer it is wide open to the street and great place to sip coffee and read. Staff is superb. Nice place.

I thought that local/downtown bookstores were extinct, but it turns out they aren't! I was very excited to see such a thriving little spot so close to home. I am a coffee junkie, but as fate would have it on this day I was ready for a little savory brunch. I tried one of their turkey wraps and it was really tasty. We also ordered a crepe, (with bananas and chocolate) which they make right in front of your eyes! They are HUGE. The bookstore is really cute. I saw lots of great books while just browsing. It was actually really crowded (which makes sense for a Sunday around 11) but the food didn't take too long. The one thing I did think was a little odd was the giant set of wind chimes that they had sitting out in the middle of the floor (between the coffee area and bookstore). There were plenty of kids running around the bookstore and these chimes were just "begging" to be touched by every kid. It seemed as if one of the employees was getting quite annoyed because every time a kid would come by and touch the chimes, he would yell. Maybe the chimes should be moved when it's really crowded if they shouldn't be touched. Just a thought.... That being said, I really can't wait to go back. I envision this place becoming a weekend tradition.

I met some girlfriends there to check the place out and the atmosphere and service was amazing!!! The selection of books was awesome and I overheard the staff talking to another customer about ordering a book that they currently didn't have in stock, which I thought was great. Everything sounded so good on the drink menu and the full leaf tea I drank was very enjoyable. The aroma of the freshly baked goods was intoxicating and made me crave whatever was being made. The prices are also very reasonable! Overall, Next Chapter is a great place to hang out with friends or by yourself and enjoy a book or get some work done. I definitely recommend it as a place to hang out at in Downtown Northville.

The perfect ittle book store around the corner. Great staff, nice selection of books, and you can browse with a cup of coffee or tea. Two thumbs up to the owners - they've taken a real leap of faith in opening this little gem. It's my go-to book store.

Not only is the atmosphere very nice here - a good combination of the cozy and the well-lighted, but the coffee is exceptional. I have had espresso all over the world and this is just about as good as it gets. They care about good coffee here and it shows.

This is a quaint little bookstore with a surprisingly good selection of books and magazines. The wi-fi is fast and free and the doors are usually open to the patio, so you can feel like you're sitting outside without really having to truly be out there straining to see your laptop screen in the sunlight. I haven't tried their food yet, but the coffee is hot and delicious. This is my new favorite place to study.

I love this quaint little bookstore/ coffee shop! It's a perfect place to comfortably study for a couple hours or meet up with friends over coffee. Their speciality drinks and gluten free cookies that they change up each month are delicious and creative! They have cute seasonal latte names with seasonal flavors that are much tastier than starbucks. Also i love that it is a local coffee shop in the heart of downtown northville, im always looking to help out the small businesses! Next time you're thinking of going to Starbucks a couple blocks down, try some great drinks at Next Chapter! You won't be disappointed!

Kind of rude staff. They kicked us out immediately when the store was closed at 6 on the dot even though we hadn't finished our drinks.

This was a cute little place! I liked that it felt local and small town while still providing a nice selection of books. While I didn't try any of the food, I can say that I was very pleased to learn that they carry Great Lakes Coffee! I would love to go back and curl up with a book and a crepe!

I really like the atmosphere of this place. It's quaint and cozy. I have had different coffee and cappuccinos here and have liked them. Of the few menu items I've tried, the breakfast crepe with eggs, spinach and bacon was really delicious. This place just has a really good vibe.

Decided to go here for brunch on Sunday with some friends and was not very satisfied with my experience. All 3 of us got crepes, I got the Pesto Presto, while my friends got the Strawberry Nutella Banana and a build your own with raspberries, sauteed apples, pecans, and, dark chocolate sauce. While ordering we were informed that our crepes would take about 25-30 mins to be prepared due to the large number of patrons ahead of us. This was an acceptable wait time so we ordered and took a seat outside to enjoy the sunny weather. Since the restaurant only has 2 stoves on which to make the crepes, they do not wait for the entire tables order to be ready before bringing out the food as the crepes would be cold by the time they came out. I also decided to get a White Peach iced tea to keep me cool while we waited. The tea was very sweet, just as I had hoped for, and even though I enjoyed it, I do feel that it could have used a little richer taste to be perfect. After about 45-50 mins of waiting, the Pesto Presto and Strawberry Nutella Banana crepes were finally brought out. In order to ensure that our crepes didn't get cold before we ate them, the two of us were asked to start eating by the third friend and we did. We also offered to share our crepes with him until his came out and so he went an got a fork from a server inside. This fork had not been washed properly and had food from its previous use stuck on it. Instead he waited and asked for his crepe to come with his own set of silverware. Again his fork had food stuck on it, causing him to go inside and get a third fork. I was appalled by this lack of cleanliness of the tableware. As for the food itself, I very pleased with the taste of my crepe. It was soft, tasty and full of cheese. I did sample both of my friends' crepes and found that the SNB crepe had not been made as well as mine in that it was very crisp which made it difficult to east, even though it tasted good. The build your own crepe had been made to perfection and was just as soft as mine. In hindsight getting Nutella might have been a better choice to the dark chocolate sauce with the build your own crepe. Overall, I did really like the food, though they do need to work on ensuring the perfect softness in all of the crepes. Additionally, they could definitely use with a better estimation of how long it might take for an order to be ready. Most importantly they need to work on ensuring that their tableware is thoroughly washed. PS-normally I would have given a 2 star rating for the experience that we had, but the food really is so good that I can't bring myself to give it lower than a 3.

Excellent shop with a great idea behind it. The food is varied and vegan/vegetarian friendly, the coffee is Great Lakes(so good, not great in my opinion), and it has a large selection of teas. The main problem they have right now is they are woefully understaffed. Waiting 20 minutes for a coffee is no fun. It would be nice if they could find a way to separate the coffee/food lines but the layout of the store doesn't really allow it. Hopefully they figure this out soon because its really the only issue I had with it

We were very disappointed in this place.. We tried it because of a restaurant.com certificate. Their computers were down (unable to use a credit card and the system crashed yet again while trying to use the certificate.), they were missing multiple menu items, we weren't able to build our own anything since there were no papers printed (they said we could've told them however we didn't know what our options would have been) we had to wait a very long time for our food and my egg was undercooked. The staff was nice and apologetic but no one seemed to know what was going on..and the times listed on here seem inaccurate as they stopped cooking at 1:30 when they're open until 5

Making my smoothie out of a box mix. Yuk. Could have gone to McDonald's for the same. Most of the books are gone. Coffees were ok.

Being an avid reader, this cozy downtown shop caught my eye just from seeing pictures. I just knew I had to try this place out. I love the quaintness of the bookstore, how it has a wide selection like Barnes and noble, but also a more personal hometown selection of books for northville and Michigan. I could spend hours here reading and sipping an iced Peach tea. Also as a lover of coffee, the fact that they carry Great Lakes Roasting Company coffee is splendid. The crepes are delicious, the employees are wonderful, the coffee good, and the books even more fabulous; this is a place where I've been showing to all of my friends and having them love it too.

Now it's more a coffee shop versus books which is super disappointing. Used to make the drive because it was quaint, now I wont.

I really love the food here and the employees are super kind but the service is extremely slow. I waited over 30 minutes for a sandwich that I could get in 5 during rush hour at Panera.

The lattes were very good. Apple muffins as well.We had oatmeal and crepes on Subday about 930 and service was turtle like. Outdoor patio pleasant but I like a little better attention.

Maybe they just had a bad day but the food was gross, the computers didn't work and now I am sick.. I hate to say it but please avoid this place unless you are just getting an overpriced book..

This place is a charming, well lit place that's great for people watching and studying on a peaceful Sunday morning. Lots of seating by the window, a cute sofa nook toward the front door, and books galore in a relatively smallish space. I believe they brew their own coffee...it's so-so but the ambience totally makes up for it.

On one of the first warm Saturdays of the year, it seemed as if all the locals decided to descend onto the streets of downtown Northville all at once. A friend had suggested meeting up at this place, partly to support a local business and partly because of the unique menu. The bistro is located towards the front of the bookstore, with a narrow workspace where customers can peek at the crepes being prepared. Towards the back are shelves of books and large tables perfect for cramming for exams or catching up on paperwork. I had ordered the Crepe Complet, a savory buckwheat crepe filled with a fried egg, Black Forest ham, gruyere cheese, and Dijon dressing. I did not expect to find a full-cooked egg within the crepe but found it interesting nonetheless. There were only a few tables up front and spacing was tight but during the warmer months, additional seating can be found outside. Service was slow.

Good coffee, good crepes, and a nice selection of books. A lot of tea options if you're prefer it over coffee. Outdoor seating is great when the weather allows it. One of our favorite stops in Northville.

Don't waste your time, literally (puns intended). We waited more than 30 minutes for crepes. The kitchen, which is visible from the seating area, is chaos. Some of the girls behind be counter seem to want to work hard and help, one doesn't seem to appreciate the importance of moving quickly, and one seems new and overwhelmed. Worst of all, there's no management or leadership in sight. I'd like to rate the food, but we still haven't received our order.

Great drip coffee and good quality crepes goes right to my heart. Love the book store atmosphere and outside seating. Friendly staff and even with a small variety of food quality is excellent.

The crepes are DELICIOUS!!! I enjoyed their sandwhich es as well! I love the creativity behind each dish's name. The coffee lattes each have unique names- taking after prominent poets, authors, literature geniuses. My only critique is that, when u ordered the jasmine tea in a small size, the barista filled 3/4 of the pouch with loose leaf tea. Anyone who drinks tea, especially jasmine green tea, knows that there's s particular temperature to brew it and a particular steeping time. My tea was completely bitter and a waste of money. While the food was delicious, this incident took back from my overall experience. The book selection isn't extensive, but it's variable enough to account for different interests.

Not only does The Next Chapter have an interesting, ever changing, selection of books, it also has a coffee shop that serves a decent cuppa, tasty sandwiches, and yummy pastry. Located smack dab in the middle of downtown Northville, this is also a great spot to people watch.

This place kinda reminds me of Nicola's in A2 but with tasty food. They sell a little bit of everything here, books as well as other giftables. It's a bit spendy because it's Northville but I love this place for book buying for gifts. Sometimes you need to be able to touch things, see them in person and also get advice. It's a charmingly old fashioned concept in the world of kindle/nooks but I like real books and so do a lot of the people I buy for. My mom loved it here. It's definitely her kind of place. Browsing always takes her forever so she came with me rather than my impatient dad. Plus we were getting food and I am cheaper to buy for I'm sure. We had lovely loose leaf tea here. Yes thats right. Loose leaf! If you are not a tea drinker you will not care but it matters to me, a lot. I had intended to get a crepe here but when I saw the panini were on Cantoro's ciabatta I went with an Italian chicken instead. It was delish. My mom had a bistro chicken salad and was quite pleased. We snagged some fabu scones to take home to the men and let them tell us about some game they watched and the pizza they ate instead. All in all, not my husband's kind of place but I will go back with my mom.

The Northville Mocha is tasty for a casual espresso drinker. If you're picky be sure to ask that they don't let the espresso sit while they steam the milk. Service is alright.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!- I am moving back to Northville this month and I am so glad I found this place FALL 2014.- Becky does a GREAT job special ordering my books almost each week. If you do not see it in the store YES Becky REALLY does order and even calls you when it is in. Many times I will email my request as well! I am use to getting my books in the past in Traverse City's Horizon Books when I worked in TC. So I was looking for that local gem downstate and I found it right in my hometown!!!!!

My husband and I love this place. It's warm and cozy. Just a perfect neighborhood café/bookstore. My husband usually get the coffee, but I have been experimenting with their teas and I am hooked! Although service can sometimes be a little slow, the staff is always really friendly (I don't mind a little longer wait once in a while because I love hanging out in there)!

Gem. What more can I say... These charming little bookstores/cafés are all perfect, whether your in Ann Arbor, Plymouth, or northville... These little shops reek of character. From the aroma when you first walkin to the charming collection of unique gifts and books. The soothing jazz music and the comfortable nook style seating is perfect for getting work done, reading a book, meeting with clients or simply a little escape to relax. The coffeee was fantastic, only 4.17 with tax for a large flavored house latte, cheaper then Starbucks. The staff was also friendly as all get out, they are almost as charming as the store itself! Really don't have a negative word about this place, adorable. I will be going out of my way to add this too my weekly travels. Strongly recommend you take a trip here, oh and try the food, the pesto bean soup was epic.

My husband and I love this place and visit it almost every weekend for their delicious crepes. The atmosphere is wonderful - there is nothing better than eating freshly made crepes surrounded by books! I am giving it 5 stars because I love it so much, but there are a few issues with the management of the cafe that you may run into. I would say about 10% of the time we are here, they are out of some ingredient. If it is just one of the crepe filler ingredients, like strawberries, we're usually fine and can substitute something else. But about 5% of the time they run out of crepe batter or food altogether! Now, I still love this place and go every week. But I live only 5 minutes away. If I were making a longer drive, this inventory issue would certainly give me pause. Still, I would recommend trying this place as there is a great chance you will have the opportunity to eat one of their amazing crepes.

This is a boutique bookstore with a distractingly, tempting bistro. Bad for me, because I had already paid for my ticket to Genitti's, so I couldn't indulge. The books are curated, chosen to educated yet playful tastes. There is a small magazine area in the back that was kept up to date, important to me because nothing is more irritating than seeing months-old magazines on the racks! I talked to the owner and asked her about two books I had been trying to find. She quickly got online and found out why. One was sold out but was being reprinted: the other was going into paperback form soon. I ordered both and can't wait to go back, not only for the books, but because they have crepes at the bistro. The S'mores one sounds wicked good!

I've had mixed experiences at The Next Chapter. The coffee is very good, and the book selection is quite nice. However, while the crepes were good, the service was painfully slow. It seemed that they didn't have an organized method for serving customers. There were only a couple people in the cafe, and the two people working seemed to randomly jump around between orders, making everyone wait far longer than necessary. I'll probably try the food again to see if I just had a bad day. I'll definitely be back for books, and perhaps a coffee.

This is a quant bookstore/coffee shop in downtown Northville. While the inventory is small, they do have a wide variety of books from chidrens to mystery..... The customer service is excellent and they have frequent buyer program. As of the last time I was there, for every $100 you spend, you get $10 back. While I did not try it, they have a coffee shop located in their store which apppears to sell sandwiches, soups and pastires. While the store is on the smaller side, they do have ample seating (indoor and outdoor) to oblige readers who would like to enjoy lunch or a snack while reading. If you are looking to shop at a "Mom and Pop" shop instead of a large bookstore, I highly suggest "The Next Chapter".

I had high expectations for this place, but they were not met. First off, it was'nt even that busy and it took 30 minutes before our first crepe came-which was the dolce de leche. The actual crepe was way too thick and lacked ingredients so I had to ask for extra caramel sauce. Next, came my chicken florentine crepe which was missing the cheese(the main reason I ordered it). They had to remake it which took another 15 min. Me and my friend both agreed it was very bland and had to ask for some honey mustard for it. Although the staff was nice, the crepes were overpriced and mediocre...just did'nt cut it. I wont be going back.

This is a really cute coffee/book shop! When you walk in it's a bookstore and they have a really great selection of children's books and little knick knacks everywhere. You can order your usual caffeinated drinks but they also serve freshly baked cookies and brownies. Plus they serve soups, sandwiches and salads. We ordered a large coffee and it was around $1.70 which is way cheaper than Starbucks down the road. They have indoor and outdoor seating so it's great place to chill, drink coffee and catch up on your reading!

Came across this neat place by stumbling upon it. I'm rarely in Northville, happen to walk down the main street and noticed a book shop / cafe. Looked inviting, so figured have nothing to lose. They serve local Great Lakes Coffee, so that's a total bonus. Cup of coffee for less than 2 bucks. They serve cafe type food, however only had coffee. Spent an hour paging through some books and sipping a great cup of brew. It felt nice being there. Good wide variety of books, greeting cards and such. Don't expect one of those mega giant book stores, it's small but not tiny. Like this place a lot, staff was friendly. This is a place I'd expect to find in Austin or San Francisco. For sure making another visit.

I don't come to Next Chapter so much for the books but instead for the coffee and ambiance! It's particularly nice in the summer when they have outdoor seating. It's a very cute bookstore/bistro and they keep adding great things. I finally had my first crepe here and it was very, very good. Will keep coming back!
